BS Ceramic Engineering, class 1990. You can go through 3 years of Calculus without ever working on a real problem, only theory is taught. Chem department is OK, Ceramic Engineering curriculum is an over-rated nothing. Its basic courses in mechanical engineering (stats and dynamics) are absolutely laughable, and there is no text, only mimeographs. The weaknesses in this curriculum are astounding and it never really seems to have been actually examined by independent sources not relying on past evaluations. If you choose graduate school in a different area of engineering as I have done (Petroleum Engineering, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA), count on an extra year of undergraduate work with courses you have already taken because the graduate school relies on the poorly written Alfred University description of courses to decide if an equivalent education was given. And the jobs you can get in Ceramic Engineering? Count on being in some crummy town in the middle of nowhere for the rest of your life in the mid-west or some tiny town you never would want to live in. read full review
