Get your portfolio started soon! I started my portfolio last year (junior year), even then, I was too busy to complete it this year (senior year). Also, make sure to include WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT, rather than showing works of multiple mediums. Oh, and include an adequate amount of still lives/life drawings too. Moreover, pay attention to your grades, even if they may not be perfect, maintaining an okay GPA will have your chances increase. Join as many art clubs, take as many art classes as you can, but most importantly have fun with your high school career. read full review

There is plenty to do around Maine College of Art. Since its located right in the middle of Portland there is always something going on. The city has art fairs and parades right outside our front door! The civic center is only a few steps away if you are interested in concerts or going to see a hockey game. There are plenty of shops and restaurants as well. It is perfect for an art student because there are tons of galleries all throughout Portland. read full review
