Make sure you do research on your professor since their are a lot of foreign teachers there that are hard to understand or just plain bad teachers that will not be of any help to you.

My main tip is to NOT be pessimistic. Don't expect to have a bad time or experience. Be completely open and positive, and you'll have the most amazing time in the world. And most importantly, don't be afraid to get out there both academically and socially! There are tons of great opportunities!

Apply to other schools too to see the best option in terms of affordability. Also, the math program is not as bad as everyone says. It just depends on the teacher that you get. Try to get as much money from them as you can.

Although there are many activities to do on campus, don't forget about your studies. Always come prepared to class and while it is easy to just skip your classes since the professors don't take attendance, I recommend that you don't. It is very easy for you to get behind if you skip even one lecture.

If you're interested in coming to Oakland I would recommend getting involved into as many clubs as you can. Also make friends with upperclassman so that you can learn all about what you can do to make your experience and future the best.
