Turtle Mountain Community College is committed to functioning as an autonomous Indian controlled college on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation focusing on general studies, undergraduate education3, vocational education1, direct scholarly research2, and continuous improvement of student learning. By creating an academic environment in which the cultural and social heritage of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is brought to bear throughout the curriculum, the college establishes an administration, faculty, and student body exerting leadership in the community and providing service to it.

TMCC hosts a Pow Wow every New Year's, as well as ceremonies on graduation. At the begining of every semester TMCC has a smudging ceremony, where participating students, staff, and faculty smudge themselves as well as the buildings.

TMCC hosts a Pow Wow every New Year's, as well as ceremonies on graduation. At the begining of every semester TMCC has a smudging ceremony, where participating students, staff, and faculty smudge themselves as well as the buildings.
TMCC also has an additional campus called the Anishinabe Learning, Cultural & Wellness Center. The Center is a beautiful and symbolically powerful site nestled between Belcourt Lake to the North and a natural wooded area. The Center consists of 102.5 acres of spectacular natural beauty & ponds, with OX Creek running through the area. The Anishinabe Center has several log cabins, a straw bale research center, a cultural round house, a trading post, medicine wheel garden, sauna, showers , bathrooms, an experimental demonstration site, gardens, nature trails, cultural & medicinal plots, hundreds of fruit & berry trees, a hoop house, lakeshore frontage with docks and a boat & a canoe cabin. In addition, a newly renovated log-sided main building and an education/extension addition is available for staff, students, faculty, and community members for teaching and pleasure.
