Great for these types of students

Great for those who want an easier transition from High School to College, or from regular life to going back to school. Many options on how to take your classes. Ultimately it depends on what your goals are.

    Tips for prospective students

*Get your application and orientation done quickly, so as to be part of the earlier registration. *Be prepared to take less important classes your first semester or two, because it is hard to get the basic English 101 and Math classes.

    Bang for the buck

In my case, no, because I am an out of state student, meanwhile for the in-state students, it is a relatively good price for what you are getting.

    Am enjoying being here

Not really, but that has nothing to do with the school. A good campus, with good teachers, I just don't want to be going to school in California. For a school it is good.

    Am learning a lot

Depending on the class, but in general. I am learning more in some classes than other, but that is true of all colleges.

Great for these types of students

Journalism, Fine Arts, Liberal Arts and any student with ambition and drive!

    Tips for prospective students

The amount you learn is directly connected with the amount of effort you are willing to make. Don't start anything you don't intend to finish. Most importantly, stay focused!

    Bang for the buck

VVC has many different opportunities for low income homes. The price per unit is a bit high for non residence of California or homes that do not meet low income eligibility. I currently have the BOGG waiver and it saves me hundreds every semester.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy going to school at VVC. The campus is beautiful. It is a great experience walking to class. The campus surrounds a lake which is inhabited by many ducks, geese, birds and other wildlife. It is a wonderful stress reliever to be able to sit and feed the ducks between classes. I have found the staff at VVC to be very friendly and helpful whenever I needed assistance.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot at VVC. I just finished my second semester and it's easy to see that the instructors really do want their students to succeed. I have personally utilized the writing and math labs. Both have tutors to help you when you are not in class.

Great for these types of students

I believe the school have a nursing program that are definitely great for student who are interested in the nursing field. There are also some great Biology teacher there. I know there is a Biology teacher that does research every year, so students who are interested in research should contact him in the science department.

    Tips for prospective students

Join club, get yourself out there, and do not be afraid to ask questions. You have to be able to navigate your school life around and finding supports wherever you can. Resources are all around you, you just have to take the initiative and go find them. If you're lost at something, don't be afraid to ask, people are willing to help as much as they can. And do not forget to go see and counselor every semester to keep your educational plan in check.

    Bang for the buck

Um. Its not very expensive to attend Victor Valley College. I mean it does require a great amount of money but its nothing compare to a real university. Classes are only about $26 per unit I believed? Even so, I think its not that expensive.

    Am enjoying being here

I would definitely say that my time here at Victor Valley College is awesome. I am in the Puente Program which support students who are interested in transferring, and I am an officer for this club as well. I've made so much friends that share a common purposes; friends who want to be a doctor, bio-engineering, researcher, chemist, computer science, and so much more. I love surrounding myself with people who want to do something with their life, and that help motivate me. I love competing with my friends every semester to see who would have a higher grade at the end. Its a blast for me attending here at Victor Valley College.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot here at Victor Valley College. I believe my writing skill has improve dramatically. Coming from a bilingual background, English was my worst subject. However, I took classes at Victor Valley College and my English skills have been improving ever since. I love writing essay where I could freely express myself, and I hate writing essay in high school. College just really open your eyes to a new world.

Great for these types of students

If your in the High Desert, and your not looking to immediatly go to a 4 year, like UCSBD, then VVC is the place to go. it is close, the classes are cheap, and the faculty is friendly. It also sure beats driving to Upland every other day.

    Tips for prospective students

When registering for classes, be quick. The classes go on a first come, first serve basis, and the class you need will surely be in hot demand. Know what your going to pick long before you pick it.

    Bang for the buck

compared to the last school I was at, a tech school, I am in shock at how cheap the classes are. 300 dollars for 4 classes, it's ridiculous. The quality of the education is great, so yes, it is a great value.

    Am enjoying being here

It's close to home, and quite a lot of the people from my Highschool are also attending. I enjoy the classes, the teachers are great, and I am having a great time.

    Am learning a lot

The school offers a wide variety of courses for just about any major. I am currently completing 2 years of gen ed, and VVC has only made it easy for me. Learning here for me is rather easy.

in my opinion if you are wanting to start from the basics its a good idea to have this college in mind. i am speaking for myself and this college is a competent building block for my educational journey. i like it.

    Tips for prospective students

tips i am thinking to reconcile are not blunt. i cant think of any tips at the moment.

    Bang for the buck

yes for me i can furnish the college expenses like books, supplies, but you cant expect to have everything given to you, you have to earn it.

    Am enjoying being here

you know i take note of what i do have right now and don't pay so much attention for the things i don't have, so yes i enjoy being here. there is no college that will have everything you want and if they do there are some restrictions. but for now i am pleases where i am at.

    Am learning a lot

being my first year here, i took several classes in which i learned many knew things that would benefit me in my learning experiences on my education journey. i am looking forward to having more knowledge fed to me in the years to come.

    Bang for the buck

The bang for the buck is like most Colleges not as much as a UC but it can be quite expensive sometime when there are book and classes they need to be payed for. The classes are quality though they will get you where you are going as long as they are transferable to where you are going.

    What to do for fun

We have ducks and geese at Victor Valley College if is fun when you bring bread from home you can feed them. There are also sports that can be watched when there is a game going on like football, softball and lots more.

    Food and Dining

We have a little cafeteria they have good food. It is enough to get through studying and to go from class to class.

    Dorm Life

    There are no Dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor happens more in labs then just in a regular class. That is what i see when i take my classes.

    Tips for prospective students

For those prospective students i would have to say make sure to show up on time to class on the first day. The earlier the better. The classes are very crowed the first couple of weeks. After time though students stop coming. Also don't give up on a class just try your hardest and ride it out.

    In three sentences

Victor Valley College is a great school if you just starting out in College or if you are continuing school. Victor Valley College has great programs like its nursing programs, agriculture, firefighting program, and plenty more. Victor Valley College has very nice scenery it’s a great place to study very quiet.

    Campus Safety

most people on campus either hang out in the library to get work done or are walking to get somewhere. most people seem to keep to themselves or their group, and there is an occasional patrol officer asking students for id cards and what their business is there. i have also seen small towers that, when you push the button, an officer will be at your location within a couple minutes.

    Greek Life

    no greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

there are quite a few clubs offered, but meeting times are hard to create because people have schedules all over the place. i personally have not seen any clubs dedicated to the arts though; it would be nice to see a theater or dance club.

Great for these types of students

this school is crowded with middle-aged people trying to get an education. many night classes are offered for those who have kids at home.

    Bang for the buck

the school has some great teachers and faculty who are more than eager to help you with any questions you may have, but you have to approach them. the services, such as financial aid and counseling, can be ridiculous to get in touch with because of the overcrowding. however, there are many classes to choose from and many wondeful teachers on campus.

    What to do for fun

there are a few good grass spots and tables to hang out at, but if you're looking for entertainment, you won't find it by just walking around. the school has put on plays and art shows and rallys, so keep your eyes open for posters. the mall is about 10 to 20 minutes away from the college, and 5 minutes away are some restaurants, stores, a gym, and a movie theater.

    Food and Dining

there is a small selection of food on campus; your choice is basically a hamburger or orange chicken. however, 5 minutes away is a larger selection of fast food and restaurants that have more bang for your buck.

    Dorm Life

i live in the next town over about 20 minutes away from the school, and i don't believe vvc offers housing. however, i would talk to a counsler or look on the website.

    Academic Rigor

keep in mind that this is still college, so time management is essential to your time here. make sure you are committed to your classes or you may suffer in the long run.

    Tips for prospective students

have a backup plan on what classes you want to take; they fill up quickly. also, get to a counsler as soon as you can if you plan to transfer and not just taking classes to pass the time. there is also a handy website, ratemyprofessors.com, that gives student reviews on teachers in different categories.

    In three sentences

overall, it's just like any other community college. there are a few problem areas, such as financial aid, but that's because the school is overcrowded. i have been content with my time here.

    Campus Safety

The campus appears to be pretty secure and safe. I have never felt like there was a problem, however there are a lot of sketchy individuals that go there, so don't let your guard down.

    Clubs and Activities

There seems to be several clubs and activities going on, but anything good seems hard to get into.

Great for these types of students

It can be a good hang out or place to meet new people. It is fun to have classes with so many different individuals.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing that I can think of.

    Bang for the buck

The school is continuing to raise its prices each year. I just registered and it once again has gone up 10 dollars a unit. That does not sound like much but it really adds up. I used to be able to go full time for less than 300 dollars not I'm about to hit 500 bucks with only taking 10 units. The education is getting worse and the school is getting more expensive. You are definitely not getting your moneys worth.

    What to do for fun

The school does put on many plays and performances that are not half bad. If you have an ASB card (Which they pretty much force you to get) you get into many of the shows for free.

    Food and Dining

There is not a very large food selection and usually does not look appetizing.

    Dorm Life

I do not think they even have dorms. It is a community college, so I am currently attending there while working and living at home.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are not too bad, if you can find a decent teacher. Some teachers are only there to collect a pay check, but if you get one of those few that love their job then it is worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Bite your tongue and stay strong. Get through school as quickly as you can and move on to something better. It is just a community college and a stepping stone to a better school and better career.

    In three sentences

This school is close to home, but far too expensive for the meager education they provide. Not enough classes, with competent teachers. Too hard to receive tuition assistance and help, unless you are completely poor.

The Mojave Fish Hatchery is only a short walk from the lower campus. It's actually just across the street.

    Bang for the buck

There's a good-sized pond throughout the middle of the campus filled with fish and quite a few ducks that are always wandering around.

    What to do for fun

The usual clubs and a sorority. There's also a fish hatchery nearby that always fun to check out if you're interested in that kind of thing.

    Food and Dining

I'm not really sure. They have the usual vending machines filled with snacks though.

    Dorm Life

We don't have a dorm life. No dorms.

    Academic Rigor

A full course load for the fall semester is 12 units or about three classes. Not too bad if you actually think about.

    Tips for prospective students

It's best to make appointments to see a counselor online. They don't always get back to you when you call and leave a message. It's important to remember that the Student Activities Center are closed on Fridays.

    In three sentences

The Victor Valley College seems okay. The faculty appear friendly and knowledgeable and more than willing to answer the questions of a new student. It doesn't apear to be too overly crowded yet the crowds aren't too small either just right.

    Campus Safety

If you have to take a night class or be there early in the morning always have a buddy with you. It gets really dark on campus and even though we have emergency phones there's still safety in numbers.

    What to do for fun

Different things happen through out the year you just gotta pay attention. For everyday thing you can hang out with friend in the SAC or play card games with some really awesome nerds. Other than that? Not much.

    Food and Dining

Majorly expensive. You'd be better to pack lunch from home if your gonna be there all day.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on your teacher. Some are super strict about stuff and others not so much. It's kinda like high school in that way.

    Tips for prospective students

    What to do for fun

There isn't much to do here at VVC. It is more of a get to class, study in the library and go home type of campus. You can always relax and feed the ducks I guess.

    Food and Dining

Eating at the student center is okay, it never was appealing to me.

    Academic Rigor

Taking classes are fairly easy and to the point here. Like I mentioned before there are plenty of opportunities and programs to help you get that A on your transcripts.

    Tips for prospective students

Always keep up with your school work and never be late to class. Also if there is an occurrence that is stopping you from performing well in class always talk to your professor and visit them at their office hours. They are there to help at all times.

    In three sentences

VVC is a small campus located in the High Dessert. It is a great place with plenty of opportunity for well driven students who want to make something more of themselves. In many instances, there aren't many opportunities for the students to go straight into a 4-year university, making VVC and its city demographics a great school to help people get out there and chase their dreams.

Great for these types of students

This college is for all types of students and it's enjoyably for everyone. For all parents there is a daycare available on campus which is wonderful!

    Bang for the buck

Over all the college is great. It has one of the top medical courses. Also there is a great computer graphics program here and the teacher are super nice. This college has a lot to offer. The only concern students have is the over crowding of our classes and not being able to get into what we need to so we can obtain our degrees. A lot of students take their general education classes and transfer over to Universities to finish off the rest of their classes needed.

    What to do for fun

we have The Native American Student Association club that holds pow wows in the main quad as well as student pep rally's for sports. Lots of School spirit! There are performances held by our own drama and music department.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty tasty. There is a little Chinese restaurant inside the cafeteria as well as regular food like hamburgers, sandwiches and chili fries. We also have a student coffee shop which is great for those early mornings when we're super exhausted.

    Dorm Life

there aren't any dorms offered at this college

    Academic Rigor

This school has a wide variety of classes for different majors. This is wonderful for all those who aren't exactly sure what major they want to go into.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you are on top of your deadline dates and try talking to some of the teachers if a class is full. Don't give up!A lot of the teaching staff is willing to work with its students and they are very lenient.

    In three sentences

Victor Valley College has its ups and downs. The college is great but for all the medical major it is extremely difficult to get into any of the prerequisite classes needed. Everything goes by priority in the college so you have to keep your fingers crossed to get the classes you need.

I have noticed some campus security, but not so much that it makes you think there are problems. Just enough to feel safe in case you need someone.

    Clubs and Activities

Well, my forte is Baseball!! There are other clubs and activities, of course! The baseball program is also linked to a physical conditioning class and a weight lifting class. Not much time left in the day for any other activities, but that is how I love it!

Great for these types of students

Great college for anyone who is serious about starting their college education. You get a feel for the class structure and the experience of using your time wisely. I liked the fact that I could stay close to family and friends for at least another 2 years. It is an easy campus to get around, not overwhelming like a few other campus's I had visited.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Have not noticed anything unusual as of yet, but we do have a great pond with shade trees to sit, relax and study by.

    Bang for the buck

I am a baseball player and have been for the past 14 years. I felt that starting at a JC would benefit me more than going straight to a UC. I wanted to utilize every moment of school and work my way up through the ranks, so to speak. I am able to experience getting educated, bigger, stronger and more mature with students of my own age. I will be transferring out to a UC with my AA or AS degree. The counselors are always there for you as well as tutoring, should you need it.

    What to do for fun

In the High Desert you can catch a movie, across the street from the college. There are bowling alleys, miniature golf, waterfalls and lakes. If you like fishing, boating, or off road vehicles, there is always something to do.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is pretty good!! The college is surrounded with restraunts and fast food places. Just 5 minutes from campus, you can be dining at Red Robin or grabbing something at McDonalds.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not applicable to this JC.

    Academic Rigor

I am taking 15 units, and am a baseball player for the VVC team. My day starts at 6am and ends at 5pm. I plan to get the majority of my classes out of the way in this first semester so that when the baseball season rolls around, I am not bogged down with too many classes. I do not want to put myself in a situation of failure! There is a variety of courses for whatever your major. I am majoring in Kiniesiology.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let the comments of others keep you from attending VVC. I was leery as well, but have found out, the critics are wrong!

    In three sentences

Contrary to the criticism that VVC receives, so far I am very pleased. The staff has been very helpful and I feel assured of reaching my goal of a degree in 2 short years. My fellow students come from all over, not just the High Desert, and we are getting along well.

    Greek Life

Not very evident. It's about getting a degree.

    Clubs and Activities

Wide range of on-campus clubs, including new vets' club. ASB seems quite active, putting on lots of activities in student activities building.

Great for these types of students

Students who want quality academics for cheap tuition, not looking for lots of frills. Good nursing program & CIS dept.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Upper & lower main campus separated by elevator tower plus zig-zag ramp, which is frequently used by runners going sideways for conditioning. Many classes held at satellite campuses (Silverado, local HS's) because of space constraints.

    Bang for the buck

Pretty popular weight training facilities that I disovered during my first Weights class. Considering the fairly low tuition, bang for buck is good, but don't expect a cosmopolitan, big-city campus with those amenities.

    What to do for fun

Decent drama program puts on musical & straight plays every semester, plus instrumental & dance concerts each semester. Annual professional magic show was pretty cool (worth the cheap tix!) but auditorium frequently dark. Commercial movie theaters 1/2-mile away, lots of off-roading in this area. Luxury housing development right next to campus has recreational lake for wakeboarding & fishing, but lake/beach use restricted to residents, so you have to know someone. There's a football/basketball/volleyball/soccer game schedule, but I haven't gone to one game yet. No museum or swimming pool on campus, but there is a fish hatchery that kids find fun.

    Food and Dining

There's a small on-campus food court, no cafeteria, with a few vending machines in student activities building and in a couple of classroom buildings. Chain fast food locations clustered about 1/2-mile away, closest grocery store further. Small convenience store right across main 6-lane arterial road for drinks/snacks, plus a gas station within walking distance. Great Mexican family restaurant (La Casita) right across from campus, with Taco Tuesday.

    Dorm Life

No dorms here, it's all off-campus, with no truly close-by apartment complexes. Generally, there's only a few room for rent ads per semester, so I'm assuming mostly local students.

    Academic Rigor

Average, according to most students I talk to.

    Tips for prospective students

Science department heavily impacted, lots of lectures now online to free up classroom space. Auto shop building takes your car in for cheap (but VERY slow) repair service. Local buses stop right outside Advanced Technology building & Gymnasium. Bookstore lists all required/optional texts including ISBN so I can plan ahead & buy used for future classes.

    In three sentences

Attractive campus with central lake, populated by water birds & turtles, means it's really nice to walk to class in (generally) sunny SoCal weather, unless it's windy (which is often). Recently built Advanced Technology bldg contains student computer labs, writing/tutoring centers, printing stations. Suburban location means not a lot of sophistication in students or nearby places to hang out.

What i like to do for fun there is joining the gym. The gym is a fun experience because i get a good work out in and also i have met a lot of new people there. There are many other classes which also include yoga, tennis, football etc.

    Food and Dining

The food in the SAC building is the only place to get food, it is not amazing food but it's eatable, and not that bad.

    Dorm Life

There is not a place to live because of it being a somewhat small community college.

    Tips for prospective students

Find out what you want to major in, quick. They say it's not necessary to declare a major right away, and that is half right, but the sooner you know, the sooner you can move on to a university. There's no such thing as finishing up general ed before I go to a university, and then finding out what my major should be. Also, this college's accreditation is currently under question by the the state college board (April 2013), so beware.

    In three sentences

Over all, this two year city college is an effective place for students who plan to transfer to a four year university. I urge other students not get too comfortable, as some people end up staying here for 4-6 years before they finally transfer.
