    Am learning a lot

I've been attending Broward College (formerly known as Broward Community College) for a year and a half now. I have learned a tremendous amount from teachers and classmates at this school. All the teachers I have had are extremely knowledgeable in their field and are willing to teach you until you learn.

    Am enjoying being here

I thoroughly enjoy being a student at Broward College. The campus is kept very clean, it is very open, and it is a versatile learning environment. The student body is a very diverse group of students of all ages, all races, and all religions. I have learned outside of the classroom and in while talking to fellow students.

    Bang for the buck

You really can't argue about the price at Broward College. It is one of the cheapest schools in Florida and you get more than what you pay for. You get great teachers who are willing to go the distance, meet great people, and have a nice friendly, environment to go to school at.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't expect it not to be hard, there are some really tough professors out there. Some classes are more of a comedy show than a class. Use RateMyProfessors.com to help with that.

Great for these types of students

Diverse, willing to learn, hardworking students.

Although Broward College is a great campus for the locals residing in South Florida, I've come to notice that many professors do not posses the required discipline, and lecture skills, to be qualified as a professor. Broward College offers many different classes at different hours of the day, which is convenient for many working students. From my own personal experience, however, I conclude that a minority of professors do not appear in class with their resources prepared, and fail to carry out the ideal lectures aimed to keep the student's interest afloat. I hold mentors with highest respect possible, they are the guiding hand of every young aspiring student destined to achieve prosperity. Having the option to choose from a variety of courses is detrimental, however, it does not invalidate the fact that many professors unknowingly degrade the quality of education by not emphasizing and reviewing their course evaluations to renovate their teaching methods. The professors who truly enjoy their job find pleasure in being the mentor to future scholars. They are the ones who are very knowledgeable, providing good insight into the real world experience by finding relevance between the subject being taught and the student's personal life.

    Am enjoying being here

Broward College may be a 4 year school, but this is not where I am destined to graduate from. I am very grateful for the education that I am currently receiving, but for the price of admission and classes I strongly disagree with the amount of learning resources available. The students need more technology in the classrooms to have visual reference to the subjects in question. Aside from the lack of technology, Broward College is another mediocre public college that accomplishes what it's aimed to do.

    Bang for the buck

Aside from the few negative aspects of the learning quality offered at Broward College, the courses are beneficial and most advantageous when the enrolling student takes the time to research for themselves which instructors have the best student approval ratings.

    Tips for prospective students

Future scholars and prodigies should take the time to absorb the value of education within a higher level institution before committing to enrollment at any public college. With that being said, students need to realize that Broward College is a great stepping stone to achieving higher education, with great benefits, within a major university. No matter what college the student is enrolled in, whether it be community college or public, it is truly up to the student to determine for oneself what their goals in life are, and once realized, nothing will restrain one from achieving their dreams. Don't let your reality determine your future. If you are in a public college instead of a major university due to the high cost of education, always keep in mind that even though education offered at public colleges may not be as good as Harvard or Yale, it is still a great benefit to be receiving any sort of higher education. Patience is a virtue, and if exercised properly, an individual is capable of achieving what the world claims impossible. When there is a will, there is always a way.

Great for these types of students

Enlightened students will reap great gains in knowledge from Broward College. All students are compatible with Broward College, as the wide array of courses offered are detrimental when it comes to deciding a future and major. This college is most beneficial to high school students who have recently graduated and facing financial instability. The classes are relatively cheap, and mass amounts of scholarships and grants are available from the college itself to aid in the process of paying for precious education.

And the lab is like an extra help if you need it!

    Am enjoying being here

    Small, friendly environment

    Tips for prospective students

Ask for the student activities office where the students that work there will help with anything that concerns you. Even if you ask an student that is walking nearby, they will be happy to show you around. Before you know it you will be showing other students where the library or lab is. Always try to join some clubs because its really fun and you will meet people that will end up being your friend for a life time!

Great for these types of students

Its great for students who need a second chance to raise up their G.P.A., a student who isn't sure what university they would want to attend, and/or for students who are undecided about their major. Also this help students that is pursing an AA degree or AS degree to go to the university of their dreams.

Broward is highly withdrawn from individuals mind, due to the fact of it being a community college. They have changed their status to a college as of this past year, offering batchelors in many programs. Education to me isnt measured by the name, but by the knowledge a student is filled with. I personally think i wouldnt have received a better education elsewhere.

I think for the most part education from Broward College is standard. There are a few gems as far as professors go, but for the most part, I don't feel that Broward offers a superior or even comparable learning that you could get from a state university.

    Am enjoying being here

I typically enjoy my time on the campus. Different campuses carter to their area and at times, South Campus in particular can feel like high school part 2, but if you're in and out with classes, this isn't a problem.

    Bang for the buck

I've heard from many students that there's a better deal, however I've learned that you get what you pay for. Sometimes, you get a raw deal, but I've always found my money well spent at the classes offered.

    Tips for prospective students

Consider the cost of going to a 4 year university when looking into this school. Though they offer 4 year degrees, do they offer job support and placement in the fields they mention will earn over 100k?

Great for these types of students

If you're looking to get your feet wet and higher education, highly consider this to Miami Dade College. Though I live in Miami, I learn in Broward. Also, let that slogan at Broward be your mantra: Finish what you start!

    Did learn a lot

People seem to be discouraged about going to a Community College, although it is now Broward College, its still seen as a school where you can shoot the breeze and pass. It's not. Class sizes are smaller for a better learning experiences. Professors learn your name individually which I'm sure in a bigger institution professors only know the good students. In my time hear I did learn alot. Fresh out of high school just starting up, you learn about time management and of course the course criteria etc.

    Did enjoy being here

I did enjoy attending. Made some friends and learned alot.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely bang for you buck. All that you would learn in a university paying a whole bunch of dollars you learn in a nice cozy college and not burn a whole in your pocket.

    Tips for prospective students

Tip: Know yourself. Broward College has the most flexible schedule in the world, in my opinion. They have the same classes at all different times (morning, afternoon or evening), 5 days a week, online or on campus. It just can't get any better. But what I mean about know yourself is: Don't not pick a 8 am class knowing that you would never be able to be up in time to make it. Use the flexible scheduling to work around you work time. If you must work full-time you can still find something that works with you and still be going to school full time.

Visit advisors as much as possible! They get you through things. That is what they are there for... to ADVISE.

Great for these types of students

Great for fresh out of college, students who need to work full-time, students who want to return after years of not attending, parents, single-parents. Really it's great for everyone.

For a local college that just recently become renowned as a 4 year college they are definitely doing better than any of the other local schools. If you put in the time to research which professors are the best and receive the best ratings among the student body you can receive a pretty good education. Although I have had a few teachers that lacked the proper knowledge to be teaching the class and one had to put in the extra effort to teach themselves some things at home.

    Am enjoying being here

While the schooling is above average and you learn can learn a lot by picking the right professors, the environment at Broward College seems to be that of a high school. The kids seem to be more interested in playing spades and hanging out than discussing class material and studying for the tests that they have to take.

    Bang for the buck

For the money that it cost to attend this College I believe it is well worth it and everyone that is local should definitely keep it in mind if you cannot afford to go away for schooling.

    Tips for prospective students

I would definitely put in the extra time to check your professors ratings and see what the students in the past have thought about the professor. I regret my first semester completely for not doing this.

Great for these types of students

Students that are able to push themselves a bit more than others and want to achieve great grades to move onto a better University.

    Am learning a lot

    (Review based on North Campus).

I transferred from FAU to Broward College and feel like I am learning a lot more here. I have had some really amazing professors who REALLY know what they're talking about. One of the biggest and best differences is that the class sizes are significantly smaller. At FAU, some of my lecture classes had up to 300 students in them, while at BC the max number of students in a class I've had was probably 25! The professor knows the students by name, and it's much easier to get to know your fellow classmates!

    Am enjoying being here

    (Review based on North Campus).

Like mentioned above, because of the classes being so well sized (not too many students), it really gives you a great opportunity to get to know your classmates and make friends, especially for those (like me) who aren't the most outgoing individuals. I actually see students I know around campus and it just makes the college experience so much more pleasant when you don't feel like you're wandering around alone! There's also many events going on, pretty regularly, so if you're someone who likes to be involved in the student life it's perfect! At LEAST once every 2 weeks there's music playing and tables set up with something going on, whether it's Welcome Back week, Haiti Relief Awareness, or anything in between!

The one complaint I do have about BC is the process of meeting with an advisor...if you don't act quickly you pretty much get stuck when trying to figure out what classes to take, because they appointments fill up so quickly! This can be quite frustrating...

    Bang for the buck

    (Review based on North Campus).

Like I said above, I feel like I'm learning so much more, yet I'm having to pay LESS than what I would at a regular university!!! The professors can get one-on-one with you and really help you with problems you may be having; in addition there is free tutoring offered in the library. There are many ways to get help with anything you're struggling with, so you can be sure you're getting your money's worth when it comes to your education!

    Tips for prospective students

Take care of any questions about classes, registration, etc. ASAP!!!!! Advisers get BOOKED once class registration opens, making it almost impossible to figure out what classes to take, or to have them override any problems/issues you may be having!

Sign up for classes early! I've had to learn the hard way that you should sign up for your classes as soon as registration opens for you. That way you can get the exact classes and schedule you want. You can get it to where you only go to school two days a week! And that's full time! But the only way to do that is to act quickly!

Have a positive outlook on school/your classes. If you go into a class, especially one that's on a subject you're not good at or interested in, with a negative outlook, chances are you probably won't get much out of it! Try to desire to learn and understand what's being taught; speaking from personal experience it can really change how you do in a certain subject!

Take care of financial aid and other registration issues as early on as you can. You don't want to have to pay out of pocket for classes...especially if you don't have the money to pay for them! And if your financial aid isn't turned in early enough and you don't pay, all your classes will be dropped! Then you'll get stuck with whatever is available! Say bye bye to your perfect schedule! So unless you have the money to pay upfront, it's crucial that you take care of your financial aid first thing!

For anyone who has taken AP courses in high school, keep the copies of your score sheets in a safe place! Again, I've had to learn the hard way...the school has managed to lose my scores I submitted to them, and now when they're asking me to bring in the copies, I'm not so sure where they are! Basically just have copies of anything and everything important, and KNOW where they are! That way if there are any issues you'll have them on hand!

Online classes are a great option! Don't be afraid to try them!

Great for these types of students

    (Based on North Campus).

Any one who lives locally and doesn't want a crazy commute to their school.

Any one who'd rather not deal with ridiculous amounts of traffic (like at a university).

Any one who feels they'll learn better in a smaller class size!

Any one who'd rather be in a smaller school instead of a huge university.

Any one who has a 75% Bright Futures Scholarship...because 100% of your tuition will be covered at BC!!!!

    Bang for the buck

i thought i was going to have to get a job to pay for my classes and books. but financial aid was very helpful in helping me succeed this difficult task. it doesnt cost much to come to broward college.

The environment is very laid back and gives you a very tranquil feeling. The people are very friendly and the administrators are always helpful, respectful, and reliable. They have many computers and tutors to help you with any work you need. Broward College has various clubs, sports, and recreational activities for you to enjoy.

    Bang for the buck

Broward College is a very affordable school, every class is about $250 and it's completing worth it. The teachers are very respectful, somewhat easy, and don't over load you with work. Recently Broward College has become a 4-year college and offers more majors, specify for educational majors.

    Tips for prospective students

It's best to register for classes as soon as possible because classes full up very fast. Try and speak with an advisor to help you with your classes, a good one is Maynel Little, she can help with almost anything you need.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for all types of students, especially students who don't want to be in class for hours, because every class is about i hour and 15 minutes. It's also good for students who work full time or have other obligations, because they have very good online classes.

    Am learning a lot

Yes! I am learning a lot at Broward College. I just came out of high school, so I still have a young state of mind; I was not use to having all the responsibility. I was use to me putting 50% in and my teacher putting in 50%. But at Broward College it helped me grow up; I now know that I am responsibly for what I do.

    Am enjoying being here

I love everything about the school because: people are so friendly, I have access to a computer, a laptop, a printer, scanner, and a copy machine. The book store; The food is awesome!

    Everything is affordable.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Always be on time, Professors hate it when they start their class and you, just walk in late.
    2. If your not going to be attending class, or you will be turning in assignment late email your professor ahead of time.
    3. Take notes, Take notes, take note.

    Tips for prospective students

I've been attending Broward College (formally known as Broward Community College) for the past year now. I absolutely love the campus and the people who teach as well as attend as students. Everyone is extremely nice and helpful. It makes your first college experience a great one! At first I was terrified and had no idea what to do, where to go, how to get things done, or even when they had to be done! All you have to do is ask and help will come in every shape and form. I was literally confused from the moment I walked into the main building, but after admissions, and tackling your way through financial aid and the bookstore, everything just falls into place. I must say it was nice to start off at a smaller school to get the hang of things before transferring to a university, it's much less intimidating.

Great for these types of students

It's a great school for anyone trying to get their AA degree, whether it's your first time going to college straight out of high school or you are a returning student/adult. It's definitely a great school that will challenge you.

Broward College is a great college. Small classrooms which is better then sitting in a room with 400 students. LRC (learning resource center) is also very helpful and very glad BC provides resources for students benefits. Parking is also not that bad compare to bigger University.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you do not procrastinate with anything. For example, do things before the deadline, register for classes the day registration opens, check financial aid status. Stay connected with students and professor. Don't be afraid to ask questions or for guidance.

    Academic Rigor

Professors are very helpful only if you ask. The fact that there is less students per class verses a university gives you the student an advantage to seek help. Also professors are usually available 30 minutes prior and after class.

    Dorm Life

    Food and Dining

Food is good, no complaints. vending machines are also available if you need something quick and on the go.

    What to do for fun

Some may view Broward College as the easy way out of school. Many do not take Broward College as a serious college. Well, to those of you who think that, I say you are entitled to your opinion; however, look at it from my point of view. Broward College is a traditional school. It gives everyone an opportunity. If one is an EAP student, a single parent, low income, if one has other priorities besides school Broward College allows one to advance in their studies and careers remembering that school cannot always be a first priority but it is one. I have had professors challenge me to my max. I still can remember some of the information that I learned my first year. I owe my life and education to Broward College.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy it, yes we do not have all the Greek's there but there are activities. Not only can I enjoy them between two part time jobs, but so can my child.

    Bang for the buck

Broward College charges a third of what a university will charge per credit. Depending on your professor, just like any other university, there are the hacks and the greats. I have been fortunate to spend my $101.90 per credit on the greats.

    Tips for prospective students

Students take the time to study even if it is five pages a day or a page of your ten-paged paper a day. Do not overwhelmed one's self and stay on top of your financial aid, and classes.

Great for these types of students

Great for parents, ESOL, ESE, EAP , older students, student's returning after years of absence from college. Anyone who has to take care of dependants, bills, house, where mommy and daddy has the money to take care of everything for you. Student whose scholarships is not enough to pay for everything.

There are a lot of great professors at Broward that really do care about their students, such as Susan Grody, Paul Beaulieu, Deoraj Bharath,Prof. Coakley.A lot of prof here really do take their time to make sure you understand the material and are really there to help you.

I like BC and would probably have stayed all 4 years but unfortunately right now they do not offer a bachelors for my degree. Classes can be intense but the campus grounds are relaxing. Lots of stuff to do.

    Bang for the buck

This is the best bang for your buck and you are getting the same type of eduation you would from another college/university.

    Tips for prospective students

Being an student at Broward College as expanded my knowledge of how college at and university will be. Broward College is the same as any other university. here and BC we have great professors who are encouraging, helpful and great in the classes room. the professor's here pass on their learning abilities to help the students at BC become better than they are and exceed higher learning.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being apart of Broward College but for any student who wants to attend I encourage you to apply to Central Campus. Central Campus is the best campus among the other 7 campus Broward College has. Central Campus is amazing it feels just like a walk through FAU courtyard.

    Bang for the buck

Attending Broward college would save you more money than you'll expect to spend. Broward College charges about 77 dollars per credit course. I'm a full time student taking 5 classes, i spend and overall of 2300 dollars and that includes the price for new books!

    Tips for prospective students

Although Broward College just expanded there degree level and took the community college thing away. This school is just like your applying for FIU or UM, take college serious because the professor's here wont treat you like the high school teachers!

YOu cannot deny that for it being a Community College, it is a great school. There are more proffesors than you could possibly count, and yes there are their share of bad ones, but there are some fantastic professors who really know their stuff! This school has a lot of great teachers that have passion and interest to teach their students. All of the campuses here have tutors available from math, English, chemistry and so on... But since, I haven't been studying in other colleges, I am not able to compare to other schools.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest first to go to ratemyprofessor.com and find out what type of a teacher you are about to take classes with, as different teachers require different level of effort from a student. The most important thing for us, students, is to be passionate about studies. We have to know that the most important things in life, are those that have the biggest value in the world. These are the things that we do after we graduate (our service that we provide with our knowledge and work).

    Academic Rigor

A lot of our teachers prepare us for the harder studies in upper level courses.

    Food and Dining

Broward College is extremely helpful and affordable. They have friendly staff that will stand beside you the whole way. I always say that why go to a university when you can take the same classes here for half the price.

    Tips for prospective students

When you go into college, don't play around. This is your future at risk so the longer you play around is the longer you will stay there and the more money you will have to pay. Have fun, learn from your experiences but at the end of the day, get your work done.

    Academic Rigor

They academic rigor there is great. They are strict but they give you plenty chances. They have 3 or 4 drop periods where you can drop the class if you know you aren't going to succeed. They also have tutoring and every resource necessary to make sure you pass.

    Dorm Life

They don't have dorms on campus so I cant really say much about this topic.

    Food and Dining

Their food is amazing. They have a cafe at Broward College and you can also go to the cafe at FAU since they are joined together. They have every kind of food you would desire.

    What to do for fun

They also have 4 big screen TVs that you can either watch TV on or play games on the Xbox, Wii, etc. After a long two weeks of finals, that's where i go to relax with my friends.

I did not expect to go to Broward College, but now that I'm here I can't imagine starting my college career anywhere else.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Broward College can be fun when you know the people around you. BC offers any club and sport you can imagine. For someone to not get involved in the campus and its activities they need to TRY to be antisocial. Broward Central Campus tends to be the most academically focused and friendliest from my point of view.

    Academic Rigor

Regular classes can be boring and self-taught; however honors classes are thought provoking. These classes go beyond the textbook and most allow the the students and teacher to grow through discussion.

    Dorm Life

Broward College is a commuter college and does not have any dorms.

    Food and Dining

There are not many options on campus for food. However the options that they do have are very versatile. There campuses tend to be in densely populated areas, as well. So those who do not like the options given at campus can easily find food close to campus.

    What to do for fun

Broward Colleges are open and spacious. This allows students to picnic out in the lawn or play frisbee between classes. For those who love the indoors each campus has a student life center incorporates all of a 21st century students needs, such as: t.v.s, gaming centers, board games, and even ping pong.

    Bang for the buck

As a commuter college Broward can save you a lot! I suggest you wait a week or two before buying a book. Most teachers want a specific up to date book that can cost an arm and a leg. Waiting will allow you to see if the you REALLY need the book or if the teacher is just strongly suggesting it. If it is crucial try chegg (you can return it within 21 days no questions asked!).

Great for these types of students

Broward College has so many different types of students and learners. It can be very popular for high school students as a dual enrollment program. These students enjoy the program even though it can be tough. Many students are parents. Due to Browards variety in classes and class times it it easy for full time parents or workers to incorporate classes into their schedule.

    Clubs and Activities

This is the way to get to know people! Regardless of your passion, you WILL find a club to fit your needs. The only problem I have found is that club meetings tend to coincide with classes. This means you either have to be a scheduling master or miss meeting/ class.

    Campus Safety

There is a safety box every couple of yard. (If someone is in trouble and rings it security is suppose to arrive in a certain amount of time.) The most I have seen a campus officer do is regulate how many students can enter the bookstore. However they do jump your car for free!

Broward College has become more popular than ever since they made the transition from a community college. With renovations to the main campus and new degree programs coming out on a regular basis, Broward College has begun to attract more prospective students than ever. Since they started offering Bachelor's degrees, many who desire to go back to school are now able to with BC's flexible courses. There are a wide range of options as far as degree majors and available courses. The advisement staff is always there, on multiple campuses, to assist students and direct them down the right educational path.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the course and professor, academic rigor varies even with a set curriculum. Students planning on attending Broward College, or any college for that matter, should never be under the impression that since it is not a state University, that obtaining their degree will be a walk in the park. Instead, they should anticipate having to put time in for studying and completing assignments like any other academic institution.

No dorms exist at Broward College.

    Academic Rigor

In general, as long as you stay on top of things, the classes are all easy enough to pass, if not ace. For many, acing isn't too difficult either. If a class seems far above your own skill level, check to see if there isn't a lower level class which fulfills the same requirement.

    Am learning a lot

So far I've loved all of my Professors (except one, but we worked that out) and I've learned a lot. It depends on what class you're taking, but for the most part, I've learned stuff that I will actually use and the Teachers make the classes entertaining.

    Am enjoying being here

Like I said I'm having a great time. I'm in the Honors Learning Community Helix, which really isn't worth doing unless you're planning on transferring to a major school and want a transfer scholarship. However, It started out with 20 students and we all became really close, really quickly because we had to take 2 classes a semester with these people for 3 semesters. the class has slowly dwindled down to 9 people but we're all really close and help each other out. there are ways to get to know people and fun activities all the time. Don't listen to the Debbie Downers on Broward. They just wanted to do something more and couldn't.

    Bang for the buck

My first two semesters, I did't pay anything for my classes because I had Bright Futures and the Honors scholarship (another good reason to be in Helix but you don't need to be to be in the Honors Institute.) In my second semester, I tanked a class and brought my GPA to a 3.0 and lost the honors, but my Bright Futures did a lot. If you want Gen Ed for cheep but with good people, look them up.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely check Rate My Professor before signing up for any classes and ask around to see how others liked or didn't like them. I would also recommend signing up for classes as early as possible so you don't get stuck with that schedule that everyone hates. (Again, another good reason to be in the Honors Institute is that you get to sign up for classes a week before everyone else.) Also, make sure you know what you want to do. and if you don't, take Gen ed classes. take the ones that you know suit the broadest range of the carrier fields you are looking at.

Great for these types of students

People who like small classes and intimate settings with professors. Most of them really do care and will do what they can to help you graduate. BC's slogan is Finish What You Start so they really give you every opportunity too succeed. If you're not sure if you can handle regular college life right out of high school, try it at Broward because it's like a great middle ground between high school and University.
