    Am learning a lot

Even when taking my general ed. classes, I've learned more than what I've expected. The teachers that I've had this semester all seem thrilled about teaching and hearing student responses.

    Am enjoying being here

Great campus- very mellow, friendly peers and professors, many places to lock up your bike.
Our student union has three fast food restaurants: Panda Express, Subway, and Chick-fil-A. There is also a small pool haul/ bowling area/ game room to go and have some fun.

    Bang for the buck

If you don't have a laptop, they let you borrow one (very helpful), also there are always professors or tutors willing to help (within their time).

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on attending this school, I recommend you apply for classes ASAP, because budget cuts have taken a toll on a lot of students. Also, don't be too proud to ask for help, everyone needs it at some point, just ask! Go to Library for laptop lending up to two hours available (must be a student). If you're driving, I recommend getting to school early to get a decent parking.

Great for these types of students

-GREAT for Ag students, (tons of scholarships offered from CSUF)
    -liberal studies major,
    -tuition is low
-help is available in library from tutors

Fresno state has an excellent, hands-on agricultural program that closes part of the gap between school and a career. Budget cuts have affected the colleges within the university and have left a bad taste in the mouths of the students involved. Other than the unavoidable budget cuts, the campus staff have made this place feel like the students are actually involved in the learning process instead of us being strictly on the receiving end.

    Tips for prospective students

Find an advisor in your field of study and start out slow, do not overestimate your abilities until you have taken a semester with twelve or more units.

    Academic Rigor

From what i have heard, comparitively, Fresno state's close proximity learning makes it easier for students to learn. The courses themeselves are challanging, but it mostly depends on effort.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are overpriced and have inconsiderate policies for students who want to move somewhere else.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall is a little expensive for guests, compared to the quality of the food, but the guest resturants make things interesting and keep the cafeteria lively.

    What to do for fun

The bowling alley on campus is always a fun backup, while many students choose to join fraternaties and sororities for a built in friend/activity base.

    Bang for the buck

on campus, the prices of most everything are rediculously priced. There are, however, good sales at kennel every semester.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

vintage days are a fun way to keep things interesting. It's like a street faire that reminds the students of a smalltown atmosphere.

Great for these types of students

students pursuing agricultural carreers should definately consider Fresno State as a top choice. The school is excellent at facilitating these students.

    Clubs and Activities

Between the array of clubs and the students who are excited about them, there is always something to dedicate your time to.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a big part of Fresno. There are something like 26 sororities on campus, and they are your best bet for a social group with similar interests.

    Campus Safety

Fresno is naturally a dangerous place, but the on campus police are very effective at patrolling. There are also spots about campus with emergency buttons that will immediately call the police. These precautions make the students feel better about walking at night.

A friendly campus nestled in the heart of a city that's small enough to feel comfortable, with home town charm. The instructors know their stuff and deliver lectures of the highest caliber, providing a friendly learning environment that welcomes all students interested in higher education. Definitely a quality choice for both education and environment.

    Tips for prospective students

Relax! CSUF can put you through the ringer if you sign up for challenging classes, but don't let that put you off. Nobody said learning is easy, and both the teachers and tutoring services will be sure to have you passing your classes with flying colors.

    Academic Rigor

I know from both personal experience and the word of my classmates that the courses at Fresno State provide a satisfactory amount of material. A rich education is there for the taking, if the right classes are selected with the help of a major adviser.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately, I live with my parents, and am unqualified to comment fully on the state of dorm life at Fresno State. However, I have been told by several acquaintances that the dorm life is the same as any other college: full of people you'll remember for the rest of your life.

    Food and Dining

Fresno State boasts a wide variety of dining choices, from fast food to sushi to the local Doghouse Grill. Also nearby are several restaurants not affiliated with the campus, per se, but that are within walking distance and the budgets of most students.

    What to do for fun

Campus activities are constantly happening, with free movie showings being put on by a team of dedicated students and many other options to choose from. A shopping mall is located not far from Fresno State, as well.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are very helpful and knowledgeable. I am learning a lot from not just the teachers but also from the students are are very friendly and patient.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is very laid back but the enthusiasm of the students is everyone. This is definitely a school with school spirit. There is always something going on whether it be something educational or something fun. Vintage Days is an event during the spring that people should go to that shows off what the school is really like.

    Bang for the buck

There is a lot of housing for students within 2 miles of campus that is very affordable and convenient.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest to visit Fresno's campus during Vintage Days. Also look for housing early because the prices increase later in the summer.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who like a laid back atmosphere but are challenged in the classroom. School spirit is all over campus. You can meet all different kinds of people who are very nice. For people who like it hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

    Am learning a lot

You get out of your education what you put in. I have learned a great deal since I started attending CSU Fresno as a first time freshman in 2009. There is free tutoring in the learning center located on the bottom floor of the library and professors also offer plenty of assistance to struggling students. The textbooks are informative and can usually be rented at an affordable price in the library. Overall, CSU Fresno offers a great learning environment. I'm definitely learning a lot.

    Am enjoying being here

I love going to CSU Fresno. I have a lot of Bulldog pride! We have an awesome women's basketball team and students get in to all of their games free. As a matter of fact the only sports team that students have to pay to watch is football. Football tickets are unfortunately $15 for students. There are also plenty of clubs that students can join. There's an agriculture club that goes to Ireland during the summer and a snowboarding club that goes snowboarding often. They have clubs to suit all interests. There's many ways for students to get involved and show school spirit.

    Bang for the buck

Due to budget cuts tuition has been increasing and class time has been decreasing. Teachers are getting more and more furlough days. Luckily, the increase in cost of attendance and decreased class time has not effected the quality of education offered at CSU Fresno. It definitely gets frustrating though when I'm forced to stand in a long line at the financial aid office or that the counselors office. The cuts have made CSU Fresno have to cut down the staff in these offices. The student health center, which offers free health services to students, has also had to cut back on it's hours. Basically, students are forced to pay more to get less.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your application in as early as possible. I turned in my application the day that the application opened and I got my acceptance letter two weeks later. Sometimes the only difference between a person that was accepted and someone who was not is the date they turned their application in. Another tip is to stay focused Freshman and get help if needed. There is free tutoring on campus and professors have office hours for students to come in and get help. My last tip for prospective students research student organizations and find one to join. It looks great on resumes and its fun!

Great for these types of students

CSU Fresno is a great university for students who can endure a bit of heat, want to get involved on campus, and may need some extra help in class. It's also a great school for students interested in majoring in business. The Craig School of Business at CSU Fresno is internationally accredited, has an excellent study abroad program, and offers many scholarships to it's students.

    Am learning a lot

Yes indeed I am learning a lot! I am from the coast and I did not know much about agriculture, although here with my peers I have learned plenty. This campus has a variety of classes that you can attend. I have taken classes that range from Drama to Kickboxing. They have no limit to what you can learn.

    Am enjoying being here

Although it is my fourth year now I do miss home. Like the saying There's no place like home! It very true! I do enjoy being here though, I have made new friends and have even joined a sorority now. It is very different from home and I enjoy every minute of my learning experience.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely if you have financial need our campus offers a variety of scholarships, and you may think they are fake and that they don't really give them out. But they do give them out, I personally have not applied from them, but I have friends who have and they do receive the money. Plus if you are running low on money and cannot afford a laptop the library will gladly lend you one with a student id of course. They have your choice of Dell or Mac.

    Tips for prospective students

If you do plan to come here be prepared the weather changes drastically at times. But if you have not experienced real seasons you will be amazed. For the winter bring warm clothing and for the summer get ready for the pool. Also do not feed the squirrels especially it they look friendly, I did once and almost got attacked. Last but not least, just be yourself! Everyone here is extremely friendly and they will like you for who you are. :)

Great for these types of students

If you like the outdoors and wilderness, Yosemite National Park is near, great for hiking. If you enjoy the beach a nice road trip to Pismo beach will do wonders. If you have a cheerful, friendly attitude and you are full of school spirit you are welcome with open arms. Mainly if you are ready for a great learning experience Fresno State is the place for you! GO BULLDOGS!

There are many wonderful general ed courses one can choose from, whether it be 'Fundamentals of Public Speaking' or 'Introduction to Biology'. Also, every department has wonderful faculty and staff, each one ready to assist you in the best way possible.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy this campus a lot! Everyone, from teachers to students, is very friendly.

    Bang for the buck

If you are looking to save money, this is definitely a top choice for a college. Despite the budget cuts, tuition has stayed relatively low which is phenomenal.

    Tips for prospective students

CSU, Fresno has one of the largest libraries in California, and the nation which over one-million-plus books including various other resources. We have a great athletics department, namely our men's baseball team which won the NCAA Tournament in 2008. We also have a fantastic and top-notch music department.

    Am learning a lot

I went to a junior college before coming to Fresno State, and the amount of information I have learned at Fresno State is double what I learned before. It is amazing. I've learned about people and events that have changed the world for us today, and yet they were never a part of the lessons we were taught in other years. It is an amazing experience to learn so much every time I attend class.

    Am enjoying being here

Fresno State is a beautiful campus. I love walking to class, and enjoying the scenery and the squirrels that run about the grounds. The professors are concerned, and make themselves available whenever you have a question. There is always an event going on on campus, so there is something new to see every time I come to class. It is amazing.

    Bang for the buck

College in California is expensive, but Fresno State is definitely worth the amount. They offer a variety of classes, and do the best they can to work around the budget cuts and offer the classes that students need.

    Tips for prospective students

Always pay your tuition on time; you can be dropped from your classes if you don't. If you really want a class, and it's full, be persistent. Get wait listed, go to the class and talk to the professor. If you show how determined you are, you have a better chance of getting into the class. Sign up for classes ASAP. And most importantly, study hard, but always remember to take some time for yourself.

Great for these types of students

Fresno State is a great fit for students who want a diverse experience, interactive classes, and a wonderful curriculum. It's a great fit for students in the Central Valley, and it's close to tons of attractions, only a few hours from lakes, the beach and the mountains.

A very structured institution tucked away in a forgotten city. Offers great Major courses and classes at an affordable price. Most people I talk to are content with the opportunities that present themselves upon graduation.

    Tips for prospective students

Come in with your head on straight, keep your eye on the ending goal, whatever it may be. Enjoy your time while in college, once it's gone, real life starts.

    Academic Rigor

Parallels with each Major. Some are more difficult than others so naturally, some classes are harder than others. However, CSU Fresno did a really good job when choosing Professors to teach courses.

    Dorm Life

Proved to be very positive and friendly. Students are matched up with friends, and those matched up with random turn out to become good friends. Havent heard or seen too many issues so I would say it helps many students out when it comes to seeking help and meeting new friends.

    Food and Dining

I love their dining fascilities. A large variety of foods to choose from, usually resulting in a three course meal every time i visit. The dining ware is always clean and the food staff are very friendly making a visit a joy.

    What to do for fun

Here at Fresno State, no student should ever be bored. Between inter murals, the Greek System and random hangout sessions with friends, students should be staying busy all semester long. Inter Murals encompass the majority of the semester with numerous sports to choose from. The greek system offers a life time set of memories that many will cherrish and laugh about for years to come. Then the random people you meet along the way will turn out to be some of your best friends for life. Here at Fresno state, their is never a dull moment.

Overall, CSU Fresno is a very well rounded University that offers alot to students at an affordable price. Those who wish to enroll in the Criminal Justice system will get more than they bargain for. The CJ system at Fresno State is one of the best in the country and also at one of the cheapest prices. However, its not just the one major that receieves such merrit. All majors are staffed by some of the best and most credible Professors in the nation. In every class, I have no less than five foreign exchange students which is such an opportunity to exchange cultural values. Much is to be learn from experiencing CSU Fresno.

    Clubs and Activities

The list for these activities and clubs go on and on! Every individual can find a clique or club that will accept them without remorse or negativity. The great thing about CSU Fresno, everyone is accepted and everyone is your friend. Just be humble and smile!

    Greek Life

The Greek System at Fresno State will prove to be some of the best moments and experiences in the lives of those that choose this path. Students will be submitted to old traditions that were founded over a hundred years ago. You will meet your best friends, and will make bonds with hundreds more. For those that love to meet people and make relationships for life would not be discouraged from the Greek life. Even those that aren't Greek Material, should give it a shot because everyone is welcome and everyone is Greek at CSU Fresno!

Apply and don't ever hesitate to ask for help because if you don't ask then no one knows about it. Plus, the professors are really helpful if you do actually ask for help.

    Academic Rigor

Do your homework and turn it on time. Make sure to start studying for finals at least a month earlier and you will do great in college.

    Dorm Life

Not in the dorms, living with parents.

    Food and Dining

Food is delectable and quality is very good. College students are very polite, since some of them offered me a seat when dining place was full.

    What to do for fun

For fun if your in academics, then find a study group which will help you a lot in college. But you can always participate in sports that you like and have fun time just doing that.

One of the most challenging, yet rewarding academic experiences in my life.

    Tips for prospective students

Plan ahead, attend class and do not be afraid to ask for help.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are challenging, and yet some are simplistic. Most general education classes are general while some are tougher. Same with upper division.

    Dorm Life

Not very pleasant. You spend a lot of money only to have cramped quarters and no privacy as well as mediocre staffing. The meal plan is pricey but all you can eat.

    Food and Dining

More variety would be nice, but it is all you can eat at a buffet price.

    What to do for fun

Walk around town: laser tag, movies, malls, etc. never be bored. On campus activities as well

    Bang for the buck

    Tough economy, enough said

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The pub, only on campus bar. Underground bowling alley on campus

    Clubs and Activities

Fraternities and clubs, we got 'em. Currently joining Kappa Delta Pi

    Greek Life

Again, reactivating Kappa Delta Pi. Roommate is president of Beta Alpha Psi and another roommate just inducted into Delta Sigma Pi.

    Campus Safety

Mostly safe, but if you live off campus, do not walk around after 10 at night.

    What to do for fun

I am too busy to be involved with anything other than classes, unfortunately. But I hear there is a lot of fun things to do.

    Bang for the buck

I think any college is too expensive. i also believe that we shouldn't have to continue general education in college because we have already done twelve years of general education.

Great for these types of students

Especially great for those who are interested in agriculture and animals and engineering.

    Clubs and Activities

A lot of things are available. Research it.

fresno state is a fantastic school with a lot to offer. the campus is always so lively. there is definitely something there for anyone attending the university.

    Tips for prospective students

while the campus is not as liberal as other universities such as uc berkeley, it can come as a bit of a culture shock. keep an open mind coming into the school, and your experience will much more enjoyable.

    Academic Rigor

this all really depends on which courses you decide to take. any class having to do with science and mathematics will challenge you. even some of the music classes will seem a bit difficult. these courses are excellent, though, for anyone who likes to be pushed to be just that much better.

    Food and Dining

there are a lot of dining options on the campus itself. the bucket is my main go-to restaurant for a relatively cheap meal that tastes yummy. the dining right off-campus is awesome, too. doghouse grill serves a mean trip-tip sandwich!

    Bang for the buck

fresno state has managed to keep tuition prices relatively low. however, with all the budget cuts, prices are getting a bit higher. it still is one of the more preferable schools for anyone who is money-conscious.

    Campus Safety

if there is any kind of safety alert, the campus police will send out an email to all students and teachers telling them of any incident. there are emergency lights and call boxes in the parking lots if there is a problem. however, if you have a night class, always have someone to walk with you to your car or dorm room after class. the campus has very dark or poorly-lit areas at night.

    Am learning a lot

There are multiple subjects offered at this campus and with the courses I have taken, I feel that I have learned a great deal from each. Many of the professors I have taken are very engaging and willing to help their students learn more.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus! My peers make it very comfortable to take risks in the classroom and I enjoy my job on campus. It has opened many opportunities for me.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that the undergrad isn't as much bang for the buck, but the master program that I am enrolled in is definitely worth it! They professors are very helpful and really take the time to get to know their students. I honestly thought it be scarier but it is just the opposite.

    Tips for prospective students

Really take the time to decide what you want to do. You do not want to rush through college and realize that the degree you received is something you are not passionate about.

Also take the time to know peers and professors. It really helps you in the long run; study groups, letters of rec et.

Great for these types of students

School is great for Ag, Engineering and Education.

For Masters, I say the MFT program is pretty awesome!

Make the most out of it. If you simply take the easiest classes your defeating the purpose of going to a college to get an education. Most of the classes I've taken are serious and at least provide the tools to learn even if the professor isn't the best at connecting with you.

    Am enjoying being here

Parking is annoying, that is enough to bring down the enjoyment a bit. I would recommend getting involved in at least one club or organization (doesn't have to be a fraternity or sorority) so that your more involved and your not just going to class and leaving.

    Bang for the buck

Even though tuition is rising, the cost for Fresno State is still much more affordable than other places and the living expenses aren't as demanding either.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your parking pass early and befriend your advisor for your major. Always check your progress for the track to graduating since you can hear different things from different people but you are the one responsible for your graduating.

On campus there is a bowling ally, billards, and an arcade. We have a Subway, Panda Express, Chick-Fil-A, and Taco Bell. There's a brand new gym that's very nice, the gym offers many group excersise classes (Zumba is my favorite) and they change each semester.

    Bang for the buck

Unfortunately tuition has gone up a lot :( It's hard to say it's worth it when I'm already in debt at the age of 18 but it is a great school

    Tips for prospective students

Dorms aren't the best. I suggest living in Palazzo, it's very safe and right next to campus. Take GE classes first, Drama 62, Communications 8, are the way to go. Get your GPA up and keep it there. Use your credit/no credit option for later in your career for the super hard classes.

Great for these types of students

If you like the city but are a little nervous about being in a huge town. Fresno is the in between. Fresno is mostly centered around Ag, its very important to people here in the central valley, but there is still a lot to do. Bang for the buck

As CSU tuition rises, State Universities such as Fresno State become more expensive. as of 2011,the prices for next fall including tuition, housing, books and other costs are estimated at 22,000 total. However, as prices for schooling goes, its a great bargain and a great investment. If you like Fresno and places like it, then this will be a good investment for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Sign Up on time, and look for scholarships to help offset costs.

Great for these types of students

I am definitely learning a lot at this university. For my major in particular, pre-veterinary science, there are many hands-on learning opportunities available to further my knowledge in the subject. The instructors within the animal science department are well educated and experience and are willing to help as much as possible.

    Am enjoying being here

I do enjoy attending Fresno State. It is a wonderful environment and the experience has been pleasant so far and I will be attending for another year.

Of course with tuition increasing it can be a downer, however, in comparison to other CSU campuses Fresno State is definitely more affordable than others.

    Tips for prospective students

If you really want to succeed use the resources that are available. For example, Fresno State has an amazing library and data basis for students. There is a vast amount of information that is available at all hours if researching online, which I can say personally comes in handy.

Being away from home I know will teach me a lot. This is a good opportunity for me. Speaking to professionals also teaches you that many of the teachers in colleges teach in more than one school. As a mentor had once told me A Cal State is a Cal State is Cal State.

    Will enjoy being here

The location offers a lot. It isn't crazy over the top. Its a comfortable setting with stores and fast food restaraunts all around. So if you're hungry you can go on a hunt!

    Bang for the buck

It is not super expensive but, it also isn't cheap. I have not yet begun classes or living there so it is too soon to decide that.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely visit to see if it is some place you see yourself coming. The weather (I have heard) is an issue. Temperatures are supposed to be either really hot or really cold. Do not listen to rumors, ask actual students about the school; they are familiar with it since they are attending it daily.

Great for these types of students

There is definitely agriculture so if that is your interest look into it. Great for all sorts of students. There is a variety, again, I cannot stress this enough. Look into what all the schools offer. Good luck. Visit your schools. Visiting Fresno was what changed my decision.

So what can i say? First of all college life is not the same as high school. If you want to get something out of college you need to get your stuff straight and put a lot of effort into your work. I think that students that want to learn will as long as they dont become lazy and procrastinate. Fresno State has great professors, most really care about there students and want them to succeed. But that takes a lot of effort from the students because college professors will not be telling you what to do they just let you know and after that it's all on you. You need to become responsible.

    Am enjoying being here

The enviornment is great, there's a lot of people and you get to meet people from all kinds of different places. Its a calm place but also fun. People get scared because the media always has something bad to say about fresno but near the campus you never see or hear something that's has happened.

    Bang for the buck

Well to me if seems expensive but compared to other CSU's Fresno State is farely unexpensive. Besides if you qualify for financial aid you wont have to worry about much. There's also jobs avaliable at campus, or near the campus which is really helpful. Most businesses try to give jobs to students to help them out finacially.

    Tips for prospective students

People planning to come to Fresno State just make sure that your willing to take time and do what has to be done so you will pass all of your classes. Specially Students coming out of high school. You need to get rid of all your bad habits because this is college now and you can get kicked out of the CSU System if you dont keep a 2.0 GPA. So watch out for that, and try to just make sure you dont get to many units at one time.

Great for these types of students

Students that are willing to work hard and manage there time wisely are great not only for Fresno State but for any other College or University. Just keep trying and dont give up, and good luck to everyone.
