Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot. Many of teachers are helpful and enjoy having students take advantage of their office hours.
Am enjoying being here Aside from going to school here I also work on campus, so cal state la is like my second home. I enjoy being there and I love the fact that if I ever need a scantron I can always go to ASI and get one for free if I am ever low on cash.
Bang for the buck Cal state la's tuition is still pretty cheap. If anybody does go here then it is money well spent because students get a good education without the benefit of the doubt.
Tips for prospective students Financial aid does tend to lag it a lot so it would be better for the students to check their GET every once in a while to check the disbursement dates and what you are being awarded. Like i said before you can also benefit from the services in the student union where you can get a free scantron and a blue book a day. Also the health center benefits students. If you ever feel sick you can always go to the health center and not worry about the cost being above your budget. Before choosing your classes always go on the ratemyprofessor.com to read reviews from other students.
Great for these types of students Basically anybody that would love to get an education. The teacher to student ratio is about 1:30 except for some classes that are in lecture halls which contain about 100+ students.

Bang for the buck The tuition is reasonable and cheap. So that's a plus !
Tips for prospective students Dorms : Move in with someone you know, because moving in and not knowing anyone, there's going to be alot of miscommunication and nasty people.
School : DO NOT PROCRASTINATE !Great for these types of students If you are a social butterfly, this is the perfect college for you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There is great talent here, not only do you learn in classes but you learn from friends. Teachers are more than willing to help you out and if help is needed in any area we have the Writing center and math center. We have the career center which can help you in getting scholarships, internships, jobs.
Am enjoying being here I am starting to see more and more diversity. A lot of students on campus are working toward making this school a top learning facility.
Bang for the buck CalstateLA is not expensive compared to other schools but does not sell itself short due to the non-expensive tuition.
Tips for prospective students BEFORE getting any classes talk to a counselor of your major, if you are undeclared we have general counselors for undecided majors located in the library Palm wing B.
-Get a Planner and write down EVERYTHING, work schedule, classes, chores, time to study, meetings and deadlines for classes.
-If you are undecided, go to your local library and check out a couple of books on Majors. Or the field you might be interested in. They usually list the years of schooling, degree required, type of place you will work in, competitiveness, salary and stress level.
-Take advantage of the Writing Center, Career center, Tutoring, Research assistance, library, Financial aid office ect. Making appointments is easy and most of the time bumps up your paper up one letter grade
-Its never too early to start looking in to internships that you might be interested in
-Join an organization on campus. Since this is a commuting campus, its hard meet new people and stay in touch. Joining an organization is fun and beneficial because you start networking for future jobs and maybe even make a couple of good friends. It gives you another reason to get up in the morning and want to go to school.Great for these types of students Students who wish to commute

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently attending my first year at this university in the mechanical engineering college and so far all of my professors have been highly qualified and informational for each class. There is even a class specifically for teaching you how to excel in college itself, Intro to Engineering (ENGR 150). Teaching you good study habits and skills needed to succeed.
Am enjoying being here I am definitely enjoying being here at this college. At first, I though I might not enjoy it because it is considered one of the worst CSUs but it actually has very good professors. Only thing that's an issue is the lack of information that the administration gives students on thing such as AP scores (you need to personally turn in your AP scores to the administration office even if you had college board send it.) There's a place called the pit which a lot of students spend much of their spare time in, playing ping pong, billiards, arcade games, and just talking to and making friends.
Bang for the buck I have just begun here, but so far the professors are definitely bang for your buck. However, there could be more or a larger lounge because the Pit is often full and the tables have a long waiting list. There also aren't many fields for recreational physical activities such as ultimate Frisbee or other grass field sports.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you ask older students any questions you may have because the administration and teachers will not tell you much.
Turn in your AP scores before registering or else you'll need to take it there and then get a permit to be allowed into that class, by then it might be full.
Get involved in clubs and organizations as soon as possible.Great for these types of students This university is great for students who may not be able to afford a really expensive university but at the same time wants good professors and a strong education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love coming here. The teachers are great and very helpful. They try and help out in any way possible. Some of the classes are very large though, but for the most part you can get a full education here.
Am enjoying being here The environment is friendly and there are many things going on every day which means days at CSULA are never boring. The activities are fun and very exciting.
Bang for the buck The school has a much lower tuition fee compared to other CSU's and it is the same education so that is a plus.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to check GET for financial information. It tends to take a little bit longer for some students.
Great for these types of students Students who like big cities would love this school. It is in the middle of Los Angeles and there are many things to do around campus.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot I did learn a lot and the professors are very friendly. They are also not scary so don't hesitate to ask a question. A lot of them have a passion for their subject and if you don't understand the material, ask them. They will be happy to help you. It also shows that you care about your education and make you stand out in a good way.
Did enjoy being here I have mix feelings about this. Basically, I realized the school wasn't for me. The campus was a bit too small for me and I would have enjoyed seeing a college football game but they don't have a football team. Also, I was constantly stressed out with financial aid because they are slow and confusing. When I thought I had everything done, I would receive a letter from the housing department saying that I haven't paid yet and was charged with late fees almost every month while I was attending the school. It was probably one of the main reasons I transferred out after the first quarter. But I loved my suite-mates very much. When I was faced with financial problem they were there to cheer me up. Also, you can get free scan trons and blue books at the student union. THAT was very helpful.
Bang for the buck As far as tuition goes, it's very adorable. Housing, on the other hand, is another story. The housing cost much more than the tuition.
Tips for prospective students If you decide to go here, make sure your financial aid is set. Make sure EVERYTHING is set: do your Promissory Note on FASFA Direct Loans, take the quiz on FASFA, and if you plan to live on campus, make sure you're on the plan where you pay every quarter and NOT every month. The housing department has three plans; 1, pay for the academic year, 2, pay quarterly, or 3, pay monthly.
I did the monthly and so did the rest of my suite-mates; however, we should have paid quarterly. We all had troubles with our financial aid and by the time we got everything settled out, it was too late. Late fees became a daily reminder, especially for myself and I had to pay a lot of late fees.
And when you have to deposit scholarship money to the cashier, you have to follow up on them because they are slow. I one time deposited a scholarship money and I found out they haven't processed it when my father called me and said that the scholarship money was going to be void if it wasn't used in 20 days. They've had my scholarship check for a month and I never knew that it wasn't processed yet. So I had to follow up on them and tell them that they needed to process it right away or else it was worth nothing.
Also check your GET. It's really helpful.Great for these types of students L.A. is a big city, which means there is always something going on. There are also some cool places like the Staple Center, shops, clubs, and more. For me, I realized that I like visiting but not living there but that's also because I'm not a big city person. But if you are, then you'll enjoy it all that it has to offer.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am a Biology major here, and although Cal State LA isn't a private school you do get very hands on with the professors. As long as you pay attention in class, take the time to study and talk to your professors during their office hours you will learn a lot.
Am enjoying being here There's much to enjoy on campus. From school sanctioned events to sports games, or even the Greek life on campus, or joining a club, there is always something to do on campus.
Bang for the buck Although, tuition has been going up due to the budget crisis. Cal State LA still remains one of cheap California State Universities. So if your also focusing on cost when applying to colleges it's a place to consider.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should utilize all resources CSULA has to offer for freshman. I recommend getting into the Early Opportunity Program (EOP). This program gives you priority registration and also a grant.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students on a budget, not to far from the Los Angeles area willing to commute, like a lively and diverse campus, live in LA and don't want to go to far, and/or students who are looking for a good education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Most of the Things I learned here dealt with practical real-world experience that you wouldn't get in a lab alone. Most of my learning came from using the knowledge i learned in class and applying them to school organizations
Am enjoying being here The school generally has a nice feel to it, but there are parts that could use some improvement. The dorms are satisfactory and there are quite a few club events hosted by Hermanos Unidos. Of couse when things are a bit on the low on campus it is in the center of Los Angeles and not more than an hour and a half from the slopes, beach, desert, or Hollywood
Bang for the buck For a quality education, the price is decent, however with the budget cuts, that may become a thing of the past so remember to fill out those scholarships!
Tips for prospective students GET INVOLVED! Even if you commute here you are not going to learn as much as you can if you just go to classes!!!! Join Student organizations and become active!!!! Oh and keep on top of your financial aid (they kinda lag it) and get to know your student government.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot California State University is a great school that not only offers a wide range of subjects to study, but have smaller classes so that a student will be able to get most of what they are learning, and be able to get the know the instructor outside of the classrooms. Also, other great thing about CSULA, is that it offers its students low tuition.
Am enjoying being here What I truly enjoy about CSULA, is its diversity. I truly get learn about other people's culture and see what i can learn from them.
Bang for the buck I like I mention before, it offers low tuition.
Tips for prospective students Go ahead and check it out ! You never know ! Cal State LA might be right for you !

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The material here is great! The classes can be everything from easy to hard depending on the student attitude. All the material is here and the teachers are more than willing to help you if you ask for it.
Am enjoying being here I live in the dorms and I am a club officer so I get involved with a lot of the campus life. The people here love to hang out and have fun while still being successful.
Bang for the buck The CSU system is provides some of the cheapest university education in college, but that is because it is state supported. Since California is currently in a budget crisis the tuition is sky-rocketing. I only hope that I can graduate before I can't afford to pay the bills anymore.
Tips for prospective students Get a part time job even if it means burger flipping but don't overwhelm yourself to the point that you can't work or study anymore.
Great for these types of students Anyone. This is a highly diverse campus that incorporates people from every corner of the Greater Los Angeles Area.

Am enjoying being here I have made a lot of friends here and I do not plan to go anywhere else.
Bang for the buck The price for tuition is worth the education you receive. The CSUs do not cost as much as the UCs and what is the point of going to a school that will waste away your money for the same educations.
Tips for prospective students Learn about the possible schools you want to attend and understand what you have to do to get there. Do no worry about paying for tuition because there are a lot of financial aid.

Dorm Life There isn't enough fun activities to do at the dorms.
Food and Dining I wish there were more food options. There are a select few for eating on campus.
What to do for fun I attend the events hosted at the school.
Clubs and Activities USEU, is a Salvadoran organization at the school. It's a good organization to further learn about the Salvadoran culture and the Salvadorans in the surrounding communities.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is an a very nice campus although some areas are dirty. The best location to be at is by the University Student Union. The teachers are on average fair. You have to search for the best professors.
Tips for prospective students GET INVOLVED! You should get to meet and mingle with people in power!
Academic Rigor It is not that hard to pass your classes. Study and you shall be fine.
Dorm Life The dorms are the best I've seen so far. It is apartment style and includes full kitchen and personal restrooms. The down side is you have to share a room with someone. ROOMMATES!
Food and Dining The Food Court is decent. I wish it had better and healthier food options.
What to do for fun Always get involved! Join an organization, visit the Student Union, work out at the gym! So much to do at CSULA!
Bang for the buck I get to work with amazing staff and friends.
Clubs and Activities Check out the Center for Student Involvement.
Campus Safety You should be safe, although it can be scary at night.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences California State University is a pretty great school. All the students, staff, professor and people here all seem very nice and carefree. The academic program is very good too, I learned a lot.
Tips for prospective students If you're planning to transfer to CSULA, make sure you check the GE courses you are taking at your current or previous college to make sure it is certified and transferable. CSULA's GED guideline may be a bit different then your school.
Academic Rigor I am taking the business and the business & economic college program is great! The classes are very educational and helpful during my educational process.
Dorm Life I am not sure on the dorm life, since I did not dorm here.
Food and Dining The food court is a bit small, so there is not too many choices. But you still have a pretty good selection of Carls Jr., El Pollo Loco, Chinese Food, Italian Food, Sushi, Pizza, Sandwiches, Starbucks, Juice it Up, and we also have our own school dine-in restaurant. There are also a large selection of snacks, and bakery goods in the bookstore.
What to do for fun The school has a large calender of events happening every single day. Events can be education and fun. There are also a good amount of campus involvement happened on the main walkway on campus. You also have a large number of clubs you can join.
Bang for the buck Everyone knows that tuition has been getting higher, so any college campus, not just CSULA. But I think the cost to attend CSULA is reasonable. Compared to other campuses, I think CSULA is actually much cheaper! Parking passes at other school can range up to $200, at CSULA it is only $90! Your tuition basically includes all the services at the school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I haven't seen anything too unusual about CSULA. There is a game room on the basement floor of the Student Union center where you can play ping pong, billiard pool, PS3, Xbox, and watch TV on a huge projector.
Great for these types of students I think this school is great for any time of student. I have met people of all ages, majors, and backgrounds. Everyone I have met is very kind, and everyone here is very chill and fun to talk, hangout, and learn with.
Clubs and Activities There is a good number of clubs for you to choose from. There are clubs for your major as well, so you can associate, share, and learn from those in the major as you. Learn and help each other grow.
Greek Life Since the school runs on a quarter system instead of semester, the classes go very quick! So you need to stay on top of your studies to keep up and do good.
Campus Safety Campus security patrols around pretty often, and is located right next to campus, so if anything were to happen they could get there pretty quick.

Bang for the buck Being a college student, making a bang for your buck is our literally term. Coupons and saver shopping goes along way. We appreciate what we get from saving more than from expensive label spending.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Some unusual traditions on College campus happen during midterms or finals week. The student body will typically gather together and create stress relieving activities; such as midnight pillow fight in front of the library. It is amazing how as a whole we can enjoy the simplest amusement before buckling down on the more important issues.
Clubs and Activities Clubs are the best way to socialize with your fellow student body. As the Vice President of my school's French Club, we've bonded so closely with our similarities and interests. It is a great way to learn and teach each other while creating long term friends in the process.
Campus Safety The University and student are extremely active in the safety and protections of all their staff and student. Available are 24 hour security and walking buddies. There is nothing more important than the safety of your well being.

Food and Dining We have a Sbarro's, Carl's Junior, El Pollo Loco, Johnny's Kitchen, Kikka Sushi, Rice Garden, Starbucks, Juice It Up, Dolcini's (two cafes), and a Unviersity Cafe. Quite diverse, but the latter two, healthier options, are quite pricy. Many would prefer a Subway on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences CSULA has been a great educational institution which offers many classes in lots of academic areas. Class sizes can sometimes be big for general education courses but they get smaller as you get to your upper division major courses. The professors are great and open to meet with you during conference hours to review and reflect on coursework and progress.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you keep copies of all your paperwork that you turn in to admissions and the financial aid office because you may need them in the future since sometimes offices misplace paperwork. Always pay your tuition on time and keep alternative schedules available since classes are limited. Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your class start time to find good parking.
Academic Rigor CSULA has offered great classes in my major; psychology. The professors challenge the students and offer a great range of information. There are lots of observations and research that are required but they only enhance the learning experience.
Food and Dining There are plenty of places to choose from to dine or snack at. The food court has a variety of places to munch at varying from burgers to sushi. The cafes on campus are also great spots to get your caffeine fix like that at Dolcini by King Hall.
What to do for fun For fun you may hang out at the student union or at the lawn area where you are sure to find a group to socialize with and relax between classes.
Clubs and Activities There are several clubs and organizations established at CSULA that you may consider joining that pertain to your major. You can get information on these honor societies and clubs at your advisor or major offices.
Campus Safety The parking lots could be a bit more secure, especially in the late afternoon and evening. Security is visible on campus but not at the parking facilities which is where they are greatly needed since they are a bit dim in the evenings. You could always request a security escort to your car if you feel you need security. A tip is to walk with a group of friends or near a group of people heading in the same direction.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences CSULA is a challenging place to learn. It is very diverse and students are very involved. It gives you an opportunity and space to grow academically, socially, and also develop your leadership skills.
Tips for prospective students Always show up to class and participate. Go to office hours if needed. Be active in the University.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is fair. It may be hard for other students because it is a commuter school. However, the office hours that the Professors offer help greatly in the performance of a student.
Dorm Life The dorms are very spacious and clean. There is also always an available RA to help you if there are issues that need to be addressed. There are also social events for students that live on campus.
Food and Dining There are fast food restaurants and a University cafe. The fast food restaurants are decent and good if you are in a hurry. Service is fast.
What to do for fun There is a gym located at the basement of the University Student Union. Also, there is a swimming pool that is free of charge for enrolled students with I.D. There is a pit next to the gym where you can play pool, video games, karaoke, table tennis, or just hang out and meet other people.
Bang for the buck There are services like free use of the computer labs, free gym membership, and free use of the swimming pool. Also, for academics, you can always set an appointment with your Professors if you can't make it to their office hours. There are also myriad of University Organizations that will help you boost your social life on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is the Mardi Gras where people dress up and watch shows. There is also the Home Coming that is similar to Prom, only more sophisticated. Also, there is a roof top at King Hall where you can see the whole campus.
Great for these types of students If you are a person who likes to have a balanced academic, social, and right amount of sleep, you should go to CSULA. It is challenging but it won't take away your life completely.

Campus Safety There is a really good campus police who will always be available 24/7 on campus. There are blue buttons that you can press to ask for help or if you need a safety officer to walk you to your destination and these are located all over the campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i would give it a 6 out of 10. the professors are not that good at teaching, at least for the psychology department.there are not enough classes offered, and tuition is very high. i do not have enough money to pay for quarters sometimes.
Tips for prospective students make sure you have enough money to pay for school.
Academic Rigor i feel that with enough studying, no amount of school work should be too difficult. i feel very confident walking in to tests, because i am always well prepared. i work very hard for my grades, considering i cannot afford to fail a class.
Dorm Life i do not dorm at school, i cannot afford it. i do not qualify for financial aid because they do not understand my situation unfortunately.
Food and Dining food on campus is good in the cafeteria.
What to do for fun i do not find school fun. i go there to advance my education, not for fun.
Bang for the buck i unfortunately barely have enough money to pay for tuition. my father has to take money from his retirement savings.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences california state university is an overall good university. the campus itself isn't big or a state of the art kind of school. the quality of education varies from professor to professor but for the most part they are well informed and full of knowledge. classroom sizes are sometimes huge and trying to enroll in a class is difficult due to budget cuts.
Tips for prospective students get in the eop program. study the assigned textbooks and attend the lectures and you will do well.
Academic Rigor it's not too difficult you just need to learn how to study on your own. material isn't hard as you would think prior to going to college.
Dorm Life do not live in the dorm but from what i've it heard it seems a bit too small.
Food and Dining they have good restruants.
What to do for fun hit the gym or go into the student union.
Bang for the buck my estimation for the 4 years in college money wise is around 24,000 which is not bad compared to other universities, however, you do feel the downside which is quality of education, old buildings.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences cal state la is a commuting school, therefore you really dont get the experience you would expect the 'college experience' to be like. its very diverse. you see all types of ethnicities from mostly california. the teachers here are really considerate. there not what high school teachers exagerated them to be. and its easy to meet friends.
Tips for prospective students if you wish to attend here, just do the basic requirements it is to get into any college. good grades, mininum of 1400 on the sat's and take some ap classes if you really want to get noticed. this school, personally, was pretty easy to get into. my gpa was 3.2 and my sat score was a 1450.
Academic Rigor it is critical at any college to maintain a good gpa. because it is a quarter system i must say it is fast paced. you must always stay on top of your work because you will fall behind very quickly. midterms are back to back, it seems like, because the term is so short. i would rate it a 7.
Dorm Life living on your own is a great way to jump start the feeling of being independent in the future. you get a chance, based on your living arrangements, to live with 3-7 different girls. if its hard to find friends on campus, you start with your dorm mates, and expand from there. and right from class you can go home, rather than driving, waiting for a bus, or a ride, you can walk right down stairs. i would rate it a 8.5.
Food and Dining we have a variety of fast-food restuarants to satify your apetite. el pollo loco, carl's junior, and sabarro. there are a lot more options but because there are so many i can not remember them all. if you pay for the meal plan living in dorms, the food is also great. i would rate it a 8.5.
What to do for fun its impossible to be bored as a college student. your always busy or on the go. on campus you can socialize with friends in the food court. we have a game room in the cic upstairs. and down stairs if you are dorming, there is also a game room. i would rate it a 9.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teaching staff at CSULA is great. I am definitely learning quite a bit here. I would recommend this university to everyone. :)
Am enjoying being here I am definitely enjoying being here at CSULA. I is a very compact campus , so it is quite easy to get around the campus.
Bang for the buck right now the tuition fees are still pretty cheap, however the university is going to have to raise tuition fees by 5 - 10%. But CSULA's tuition fees are still some of the cheapest in the state.
Tips for prospective students Apply early. there is a chance that you may not get accepted if you apply too late. Don't be afraid to include some of the clubs that you participated in during high school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There is multiply opportunities to learn, not only from professors, but also from students you have classes with or are in the same major with. The people that go here are friendly and easy-going.
Am enjoying being here I was a transfer student coming to CSU LA and so I got used to the college environment pretty quickly. I am enjoying meeting new people in my major and talking to the professors. All the professors I have had I really enjoy. They have all been helpful and friendly. I also love getting to know people that have more life experience. There are a lot of commuters and older students.
Bang for the buck CSU's in general are well worth it, because of how inexpensive they are. It does not matter what school you think looks the best on paper. What matters is that you pick a college that suits you and your needs. It is important to visit the college at least once and get a good feeling about the campus and the people. I am very happy with my choice because of my major, and the people in my department. There is no need to stress, because you are paying less than you would if you were to go to a private school or out of state school.
Tips for prospective students Find a major that involves something that you like to do or that you think you would be good at. If you don't know, don't fret. Once you start taking General Ed. classes you will begin to figure out the subjects you definitely do not want to explore and then those that you do. Explore the campus and don't be afraid to talk to people.
Great for these types of students Friendly, easy-going, go-getters, over-achievers, independent, high achievers, curious, young, old, commuters, live-on-campus, active

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot My professors seem to know everything because they answer every question I put out there without flinching. Some of my past teachers discouraged asking questions because they were afraid that they wouldn't know the answer but CSULA professors either know the answer or help you find it. I love it!
Am enjoying being here I've made lots of friends since coming here and it's really brightening up my college experience. Also, the Student Union provides lots of fun activities and we actually got free ice cream once; it was melting but still tasted great.
Bang for the buck As far as colleges go, CSULA isn't considered expensive at all. I feel lucky to have been accepted here otherwise I'd be working my butt off through school, and that would really suck.
Tips for prospective students Never, EVER procrastinate. CSULA has a quarter system, which consists of 10 weeks each. 10 weeks to learn each subject! WHAT WHAT WHAT? Yup. It's true. So once you fall behind, you'll most likely never get up again. Also, talk to professors; as hard as it may be to believe, they're really human and they want to help you!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot The reason I chose to come to CSULA is because it was position 131 in business schools, and moved up to position 115. This showed massive improvement in their business dept. So it seems like a good choice, but I will be transfering somewhere else in the future.
Will enjoy being here Beautiful Campus, Beautiful Views, Beautiful Women.
Bang for the buck I've applied for financial aid, since Janury, it is now July, and don't know if I will recieve any aid. financial aid. dept, sucks.
Tips for prospective students Don't wait for the deadlines, as soon as something opens up, turn everything in asap. the faster you get stuff done, the better. so turn in all requirements as soon as you can.
Great for these types of students major party people. parties are insane! :D. But it is not a bad thing, people are also very studious, we know how to manage our time. Crazy parties, crazy memories. it's like van wilder.
