Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students A hidden gem among California Schools. Seems mostly like a locals' school, although there are some out-of-town students. Has good programs in Business, Computer Science, and Criminal Justice, among others. I had a very good feeling about this school when I walked around the campus. Clean, well-organized school. Consider it!
Great for these types of students Urban, local, studious-types, business-students, technology-oriented students

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot You can say I've learned quite a lot since I've been here.
Am enjoying being here It REALLY is fun here! :D All i can say is going here is way funner than it looks and the campus already looks great as it is.
Bang for the buck I'm not sure what THAT means, but my financial aid basically covers my whole tuition!
Tips for prospective students Future students, you guys don't have to worry about stressing so much, there is a lot of time for you to do your work when you are on campus. As long as you give yourself at least 2 hour breaks between your classes, you can get through school without doing homework at home. Just remember to go to the library whenever you want to get some homework done. The library is a great place to settle down and get your work done, especially when you are by yourself with no one to bother you. :P Also don't worry too much about not having anybody you know around because everybody on campus is very nice and you can make friends easily. I was sharing a bench with this girl I've never seen before and before she got up to leave, she told me to have a nice day, and i sat there thinking wow people here are really nice, like i didn't even say a word to her when i sat down, well besides can i sit here :P
Great for these types of students CSUS recently built a recreation center called the WELL. It is so great! It's basically a gym, with all these machines you can work on, not only that but the WELL also include 4 basketball courts, indoor soccer field, racquetball court, rock climbing wall, and 3 DANCE STUDIOS! That's right dance studios! Whats even better is there's a balcony connected to two of these dance studios, it's so beautiful! The machine part of the WELL also have a balcony kind of thing on the 2nd floor, so when you're hot you can just walk right out :D You don't even have to pay to join the WELL as long as you're a full time student you can come and go as you please, well whenever it's open. :D But enough about the WELL let's move on to something else, the music rooms :D The music rooms included one piano in every single room for students to come and use. SO AWESOME! I'm sure there's more to brag about, but you'll have to come see it for yourself. Oh wait one more thing, the Union, that's where people usually come to relax and hang out, it is so cool in there! It's very comfy and there are different food restaurants around like Burger King, Panda Express, Jamba Juice, round table, etc etc. :D Okay now I'm done and now you see why I love college (:

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Green and Gold. These are the colors of Sacramento State University. Located in 6000 J st., it is one of the best schools there are. What can be better than being located in the capital of California. I am currently a sophmore. It has been the greatest experience ever. You meet people from different places and the school has good programs in specifically engineering. nursing, criminal justice...etc. Consider it.Its a very nice campus and full of trees. It will be one fo the best experiences you have. I can assure you you will not regret it hence you will be getting the full college experience whether you live on or off campus. Try it out.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here are very dedicated and passionate about what they teach and in effect, teach the students new and valuable things about how to succeed in the specific area of study.
Am enjoying being here It's a nice place to go to school. You interact with many individuals especially if you are a part of clubs/activities. The scenery and weather is also nice and enjoyable. The American River is right there, so one can visit it, without even having to leave campus.
Bang for the buck The tuition costs have gone up quite a bit and classes have been cut. It costs less than other universities, however I would love to see more majors in certain general majors, such as Theatre.
Tips for prospective students Definetly pay attention to the signs around campus. Also constantly be checking the website as well as your SacCT and your log in account. Just remember : Be on top of everything. It will get you through everything smoother. :) Don't be afraid to ask for information at the information desk or from current students. Also don't give up asking questions or trying to get what you're after. Sometimes administration will keep you waiting. Don't give up and don't procastinate., and have enthusiasm. That's key in all that you do.
Great for these types of students Make sure you're a curious student.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Hi future Sacstate students,
Sacstate is a university that will give you a great college experience. The teachers there really know their subjects well and you can tell they are experts in their area. They not only teach you the material but they make it fun! I am a liberal studies major and have had nothing but good teachers so far. Some are more strict than others but you will find that at any University. Sacstate games are one of the most fun aspects of being a part of the school. They are so big and everyone attends which makes them exciting and fun. I've had so much fun at Sacstate and I'm sure you will too.Great for these types of students People looking to make new friends in college will find a wide variety of different personalities at Sacstate. They are so many different types of people, groups, clubs and sports to get involved in that it is easy to make friends.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors at Sac State are extremely helpful. Professors here have more time to work with the individual student and make sure they know the material due to the fact that the majority of the classes have no more than 30 students in them.
Am enjoying being here I have been attending Sac State for a semester now and I love it! The campus is quiet and peaceful, full of trees that give the campus a better atmosphere to it and make the environment relaxing to be in. Also, for those that want to express their wild side or go out for the night, downtown is only a couple of miles away from the campus and there is always a type of transportation available to take you there.
Bang for the buck Seeing as tuition is about the same when compared to any other CSU why not choose Sac? You get to have both, rural and urban lifestyles while being in the state's capital.
Tips for prospective students Dorms are the way to go your first year.
Great for these types of students Anyone interested in having both urban and rural lifestyles.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here at Sacramento State are AWESOME! I have had several professors who I have made great connections with. They care that you do well in class, but when asked, most of them feel being comfortable is the most important thing they want for their students. A little tip: go to office hours! These professors really care about your achievement and success and will do anything to help you out.
Am enjoying being here During the week, I love it here at Sacramento State! It's quiet, but many groups gather during the week to visit, play sports, or study so there is plenty to do. The weekends, however, can be either really great or really dead. There is some great eating around campus, and some fun things to do. However, for college students everything around can be really expensive. Weekends can be a hit or miss, but for the most part I am satisfied with Sac State.
Bang for the buck This area's tough because all schools are becoming more and more expensive. Living on campus, I am paying roughly 20,000 this year as a freshman. It is great compared to some other schools, however, it is still alot (for me, a college teen). I feel financial aid and scholarships, however, are wonderful in helping out with my costs. I have had to pay much less than 20,000 out of my own pocket. Definately take advantage of every sort of financial aid possible!
Tips for prospective students Prospective students - apply for the Honors Program! Sac State has a ton of great opportunities, and the Honors Program is definately one of them. You get priority registration, one of the BEST things about it. But most importantly, you get to bond with your fellow Cohort (those who have been excepted as well and will graduate the same year as you). You will have several classes with your Cohort, so you can build strong relationships and make new friends. You also have an automatic study group for all your classes! I definately recommend.
Great for these types of students This school is mainly a commuter school, it's great for local students. However, don't let that stop you from applying! I have made several friends from all over the state, and a few from different states as well! This is a great school for those who plan to live on campus and/or join school clubs. The student population is so diverse and friendly, you can make awesome friends as well as learn a lot!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot My classes are not too difficult, and yet every time I exit the classroom I feel illuminated and accomplished for what I have learned. The teachers are friendly and always eager to help when you are having problems with a certain subject. They even have office hours during which they can be reached if you have any questions about the class or the material. If you feel uncomfortable talking to your teacher about the class for some reason, there are also programs on campus to which you can go if you need help.
Am enjoying being here The campus is amazing, they even opened up a wellness center this year, so after class you can go work out, go climb the rock wall, or play sports. The people in the school are friendly and usually willing to help their peers if they are able too. There are also a lot of fun things to do, for example, a couple weeks ago, there was a comedian on campus, and right before that, there was an on campus screening of iron man II. The school is not just built for us to learn, but to relax after a long hard day of classes and take the stress away before we go home and study, or to reward ourselves after we finish studying.
Bang for the buck As I said, they just opened up the well, so that, in itself makes this school worth it to me. But if that is not your interest, we are also entitled to two free massages per semester, the clinic is free, there is a game room, as I mentioned, there are events and activities after school on a regular basis, the classes are not too difficult, and if there is one causing you problems, you can always go to any of the on campus programs offering help.
Tips for prospective students For any students wishing to attend, I just recommend that you fill out your Fafsa (even if you don't think you'll be getting anything), apply to scholarships, and get things done before school starts so you wont have to be rushing and struggling to get it done later. If there is something you don't know how to do, there are always people on campus willing to help and qualified to do so. When you start school, DON'T FORGET TO PRINT OUT YOUR SCHEDULE BEFORE YOUR FIRST DAY OF CLASS!!! A lot of students try to memorize them, and some can, but it is much more convenient to print it out. There are maps on campus, so if you don't know where to go,you can use them for reference, or perhaps just ask for help. My last piece of advice is, have fun with it, don't stress too much over it, the first week or two are usually quite easy, but also, don't forget that it is school, and you need to take it seriously. I know plenty of people who think they can party every day and still make it to school the next day as if the previous night never happened, but they end up missing classes and exams.
Great for these types of students This school is great for just about anyone, athletes, academically gifted students, party goers, etc. I have seen all kinds of students here, but not once have I heard one of them complain about the school, so if you are considering it, come check out the campus, talk to teachers and students, and make an informed decision as to whether or not you wish to attend.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Not only am I learning a great deal but I also enjoy a vast majority of my classes- even classes I loathed in high school!
Am enjoying being here I've made many amazing friends by joining clubs and being a part of on campus activities. It is a beautiful campus and I love all the colors when the flowers are in bloom. I like a vast majority of my professor's and feel comfortable approaching all of them.
Bang for the buck Unfortunately the cost of tuition is rising as well as classes being cut and professors' being laid off. Although I have been pretty lucky, it is very frustrating trying to get into the classes you need and not being able to. However I believe this is this case in all colleges and will only continue to happen as the years progress...
Tips for prospective students Be sure to be familiar with SacCT as well as your My Sac State websites- they are crucial to staying informed and receiving crucial information about important dates, payments and fees and more. If it is too complicated to figure out be sure to ask a counselor. This leads up to- Go to a counselor! They are there for your benefit and only want to help. They can answer questions throughout the school year and will you help you plan your schedule for following semesters so you can get through college as fast as possible while saving as much as possible.
Get involved! Joining clubs and attending events is a great way to meet people with similar interests as you. It is also a great way to expand your horizons. Be warned it is a large campus and there are a lot of students, and is a large commuter school. Don't let that be a daunting prospect however, there never seems to be that many students on campus at any one time and there are many ways to spend time with friends.
Anyone living on campus- I highly recommend taking advantage of the study rooms in the housing buildings- whether it be for actual studying or a meeting place for a club or even just a small get together. Especially on rainy days when you can't meet outside these rooms really do come in handy!Great for these types of students Runners- running along side the American River is a pretty run and always fun with a few good friends.
Gym nuts- The new WELL is perfect for all gym nuts- with 4 basketball courts, an indoor soccer field and running track, four racquetball courts and every kind of machine imaginable you won't be disappointed! There is also an on-campus ropes course!
Students who don't mind crowds- it is a large campus with a large population of students.
Anyone interested in the Army or Air Force- they have ROTC programs in both these branches. From personal experience I can recommend the Air Force ROTC, it has great cadre and motivated cadets.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Food and Dining my experience was limited, i would say that is was good.
What to do for fun there are a lot of activities on campus and nearby the campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the teachers are dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate. they are an inspiration to student's who are on a quest for knowledge.
Tips for prospective students prospective students: attend all orientations, get acquainted with the faculty and develop mentor relationships. ask questions, the teachers go above and beyond to help guide you!
Academic Rigor the course work is challenging, but the teachers are very fair. they have high expectations but give you all the resources needed to pass the courses.
Food and Dining the food on campus is great!! there are a variety of places one can dine at including: panda express, subway, burger king, mexican food, java city, etc.
What to do for fun the campus is loaded with activities- game room, football games, friday night movie premier, guest speakers/lectures, one book fair, sac state aquatic center-canoeing, kayaking, swimming, bike trails, river rafting etc.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus multicultural center is a wonderful center. a brand new state of the art gym was also just built. it has an indoor track, rock climbing, racquet ball rooms, fitness classes-yoga, boot camp, etc.
Great for these types of students students looking for a great education on a very nice campus in a smaller town
Clubs and Activities over twenty different clubs to chose from, and the campus is very organized and has a large variety of activities to attend (book fairs, career fairs, speakers, trips-skiing, snowboarding etc., art shows, movie nights, enrichment lectures, concerts, etc.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I've had some fantastic professors and I've had a few that weren't so great. The beauty of Sac State is that you're more likely to end up with a great professor because there's a ton here!
Am enjoying being here The environment on campus is like nothing I've ever seen, everyone has school spirit and there's always something going on in the quad so if your class gets cancelled or lets out early its a great place to hang out.
Bang for the buck I don't live on campus, but I have to commute every day for 45 minutes each way, but it's TOTALLY worth it. What you pay for tuition doesn't even compare to the fantastic education you get.
Tips for prospective students Check out the campus when school is in session! You'll get a great feel of what's going on and what it'll be like to go to school here.
Great for these types of students Laid-back, sports enthusiasts, artsy-types, pretty much anyone! It's a great school because it is in a city, but so close to lakes and rivers and outdoor activities.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot A PRIVATE SCHOOL EXPERIENCE. The teachers at Sacramento State take the time to help their students understand every subject. They value learning the process and becoming more efficient in ones studies, rather than simply handing out grades base on homework or missing assignments. Even the more difficult classes such as the math, the science's or even physics, are broken down into easy to follow steps.
Am enjoying being here The bonds that are created in college are everlasting. The people that one meets through all the networking opportunities that the campus offers are stupendous. With the recently opened Wellness center on campus, one does not have to travel off campus to enjoy the indoor track, gym, and many other extra curricular activities.
Bang for the buck with tuition rising, it is great to hear about the discounts on both new or used books in the campus's very own bookstore. The dorms are pretty costly but still adequate enough to live in.
Tips for prospective students Get the complete college experience when you arrive at Sacramento State by immersing yourself in the many clubs and school programs. meet new people and make new friends because those study groups will save your life in many occasions. Do not hesitate to live off campus renting out your own apartment; it is much CHEAPER than living on campus and will save you tons of extra money that could be put to better use
Great for these types of students Commuters, self disciplined/ motivated students looking for the best a public school could possibly offer.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences CSUS is a decent school, providing relatively inexpensive tuition compared to private universities. Because of budget cuts, a number of programs are impacted which means fewer students are able to take courses. There are a number of professors and administrators that should retire.
Tips for prospective students Check out Rate A Professor online. The website reviews professors so you know what to expect when you sign up for a class.
Academic Rigor You kind off get what you pay for in some ways. I don't believe the professors have enough time to test and read papers as once was the case. Professors are requiring less writing because they have too many students.
Food and Dining CSUS has several options for food. One of the main problems is that some of the places I prefer to go are located on the other side of campus where I'm not taking any classes. It's cheaper to just bring food from home.
What to do for fun The game room, with up to date video game consoles are fun. I've rarely used it simply because I have it all at home.

Academic Rigor You are expected to leave the school prepared for the career.
Dorm Life New dorms build look like a nice hotel. Lots of room to study.
Food and Dining Lots of choices for food, ranging from fast food to restaurant.
What to do for fun Gym, games room.
Bang for the buck Even with the high fees, you still have so many resources available for you that are not available at other campuses.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Sacramento State is a great place for any student who wants to go to college in a calm and friendly environment. The campus is spacious and vast with tress that provide plenty of shade when the days get hot. Lastly the campus has much variety from students to professors making it a well-rounded university.
Tips for prospective students Although it is a State school, Sac State is a great university for anyone that is heavily determined for students who want to major in Nursing, Criminal Justice, and Business. However, Sac State is not just for those you want to pursue in those intended majors it is filled with many students majoring in other fields. One advice I give is to be on top of everything, homework, tests, meeting up with professors and counselors to be successful at Sac State.
Academic Rigor The Academic rigor in Sac State is great. Though the university is struggling with the current budget cuts, Sac State still offers professors that teach students to think not to memorize key words for a test.
Dorm Life I did not live at the dorms however some friends of mine said that is was a great experience. Meeting new friends, getting to know new types of people was the biggest thing of dorm life.
Food and Dining The food at Sac State is very versatile. With popular restaurants and ethnic restaurants allows students to try new kinds of foods .
What to do for fun When not studying, students can either go to the gym that is on campus or go out to eat outside of campus. In addition there are campus clubs that teach dances such as Salsa Loca or Ballroom Dancing offered throughout the week. There is plenty of fun to do at Sac State.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences A great place to learn with friendly and helpful professors. The content of the classes are actually geared towards real world situations. The prices have risen because of state funding.
Tips for prospective students Save up your money while you're in high school and get a part time job while in school. Read reviews on rate my professor to try getting into good quality classes. Study hard and don't blow off quizzes, they add up in the long run.
Academic Rigor Depends on your major but overall the classes are challenging and brain stimulating
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms but many of my friends do. Other than expensive I have never heard any complaints.
Food and Dining Great places to eat on campus and not expensive. I enjoy stopping by the Union for a lunch break!
What to do for fun There are a lot of fun activities on and off campus. There are tons of clubs and activities not to mention the well and sororities/fraternities. Always something going on because it is a high interactive campus
Bang for the buck I have loved attending CSUS. I had a choice of CSU East Bay, CSU Sonoma or CSUS and I'm 100% positive I made the right choice!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I really enjoyed the Sac State 5k fun run! There was a lot of high energy that really increased my pleasure during the run!
Great for these types of students All types will and do enjoy this campus! You'll meet people from ALL walks of life!
Clubs and Activities From active, to social, to educational there is a club for just about anything!
Greek Life Very highly involved with campus life, friendly and encourages interaction!

Tips for prospective students Breakdown and do the work. That is the main way to pass any class. You dont do the work I promise you that you will not pass.
Academic Rigor Some classes are pretty fast paced and every teacher is different. As long as you can keep up with the work load you should do fine.
Dorm Life Never experienced dorm life here so I dont have much to say on it. As long as you keep to yourself and don't try to be a jerk on purpose everything should go smoothly
Food and Dining There are a lot of food options on campus. Most aren't the most healthy but it gets you by. The campus is also surrouned bu a ton of resturants so if you want something different you do not have far to walk.
What to do for fun There is a open fitness center for all of the students on campus. Also there are a lot of clubs down town if you feel so inclined and the student union has a game room open during school time.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It's a great school overall with a great student community. The campus is beautiful and covered in thick trees that make the environment more pleasant. The budget cuts are the only thing that is taking away a lot of opportunity!
Tips for prospective students Make sure you check out ways to get involved and do them. There are so many people that don't take advantage of the many opportunities that the school has to offer.
Academic Rigor Academics is what you make of it. Choose the classes that you are interested in, and really involve yourself in them. You will find that they are much more pleasant in that case and you will be happier with your results.
Dorm Life I have never personally lived in the dorms, but I would look for other student housing options. I lived at the Upper Eastside Lofts, which gave me the dorm experience and it was much more pleasant to live in. Again, take advantage of other options!
Food and Dining There is an extremely diverse selection of foods on campus. My only wish is that there were more healthier options!
What to do for fun There are gaming rooms and tv's and plenty of things to do on your breaks between classes. Take advantage of the pretty campus and take a walk by the river, or visit the cool places that you can relax and hang out with friends.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a place in the union where you can rent out your own room for hours at a time for free, just with your one card. It is private and you could do whatever you want, such as take a nap, watch t.v, listen to music, or do homework away from distraction!
Great for these types of students Great for students who appreciate nature, who like to get involved, and who are ready to work hard to get where they want.
Clubs and Activities There are numerous clubs and activities available to the students, all you have to do is go and look for them and get involved!
Greek Life Greek life is not as common here than it is other schools. We do not have a Sorority or Fraternity Row, however there are still many Sororities and Fraternities. It is a great way to get involved with that campus and meet new people.
Campus Safety There are many blue emergency posts throughout the campus that you can press in the case that you are in danger. Avoid walking alone at night and always be aware of your surroundings. Girls carry pepper spray or always have a friend with you!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Sac State is a great school with so many opportunities for anyone with just about any interests. It is a big school, but there are so many ways to get involved on campus to make it have a smaller-school feel. It is definitiely worth considering.
Tips for prospective students Look for something that interests you, whether on the website or when you visit. At first I didn't think there would be much that would appeal to me, but I discovered the Honors Program on the website, in which I will be enrolling, and it has everything that I want in a college experience. I also recommend visiting the campus and sitting in on some classes to get a feel for the campus overall.
Academic Rigor Academic Rigor depends on where you stand at the University. Some classes seem very simple, while others, particularly in the Honors Program, require a much deeper level of critical thinking.
Dorm Life I will not be living on campus, but it sounds like it is a good community. I would probably give it more stars if I was living on campus and knew more about it.
Food and Dining Visit the Union! It is food paradise and has just about everything you can think of. I heard there is also an actual restaurant in there and that the dorms have cafeterias too.
What to do for fun Check out one of their apps or their website. There is always something going on around campus! It is also located about 5 minutes away from Downtown Sacramento where there are various museums and theatres.
Bang for the buck It is definitely cheaper than UC and private schools, which is a plus. However, at a recent admitted students event I attended they did say it is rare for students to graduate in four years; however, veterans and honors students get priority registration for classes, and as with any college as long as you don't change your major too often you can graduate in a relatively reasonable amount of time.
Great for these types of students Sac State is great because it does have so much to offer that anyone can find something they love here!
Campus Safety There are emergency boxes all around campus, and if it's late you can call a cab to be driven to your car/dorm room. Also, there is an app with an emergency button on it, which is probably good if you're not close to an emergency box. It is also pretty well lit on most parts of campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences CSU Sacramento offers many academic opportunities through a wide variety of majors, to on-campus support and help offices. The campus is nestled in between tall trees, surrounded with squirrels, and is river adjacent. Rises in tuition and decreasing financial aid have become a growing problem.
Tips for prospective students Get a planner, and put all of your important dates in it (fun ones too, so that it opening it doesn't cause anxiety). Do the assigned reading and do the homework.
Academic Rigor While the GE courses are very simple and easy. Being a chemistry major is a very challenging and demanding endeavor, but also very rewarding.
Dorm Life I live off campus in midtown, that being said however, Sacramento is a great place to live. There is something interesting happening everyday, and everything is so close together.

Tips for prospective students I recommend that they take advantage of all the help that is offered to us and the programs they provide for us. Also not to be scared to ask for help.
Academic Rigor Up until now I am very happy with my academics learning. Sacramento States has exactly what I need to accomplish my long term goal.
Dorm Life I can't relate to this because i don't live in the dorms but i have heard good things about living there.
Food and Dining I tend to prepare my lunch instead of buying food at school, but when I do eat at school I really enjoy the food.
What to do for fun There is always something to do at Sacramento State. Since this is my first semester living near campus i really enjoy the activities and events that they provide.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is a great campus with a lot of opportunity for education, physical activities, and meeting new people. The faculty here is very professional and willing to work to help you if you work hard to succeed. This school is challenging but is very rewarding if one works hard.
Tips for prospective students The school has a wide variety of majors to choose from but excels in its criminal justice programs and government programs. It makes the transition from high school to college very easy with a lot of first-year student opportunities such as first year seminar, first year movie and entertainment nights, and also a peer mentor to guide you through. The campus has an amazing gym called The Well with a lot of high quality work out equipment and even a rock climbing wall. Also our sports here are great with a division 1 football and baseball team that are extremely fun to watch. It is a lot of fun, but the school also provides safety lectures to make sure that the fun is not only safe but wont have bad consequences. Overall Sac State provides everything to make school challenging, athletics fun and accessible, and a very active social life.
Academic Rigor Overall in my first year of Sacramento I have been challenged more than I have in my life but been able to succeed in all my classes. With a lot of hard work and help from the professors each class gives students a learning experience whether it is a theater class to criminal justice. The only down side to many great classes is that they can be hard to get into because of the many students on campus. Scheduling classes can be very stressful but many classes provide the opportunity to crash so that a student can get all their necessary credits.
Dorm Life Currently I live in the dorms and sometimes it can be great but others it can be a bit dry. During the week when all the residents are here it is a very fun social environment. There are plenty of activities to do from pool, football, basketball, arts and crafts, and others. The Resident Advisers do a great job in both leadership and friendship making the experience much better. However, during the weekends many people go home and it can be boring alone at the resident halls and it can be hard to find things to do.
Food and Dining The dining on campus is both affordable and delicious. I have had most of the restaurants on campus and have not had a complaint about one. Most of the employees are students so they are very fun and welcoming and the food is very good every time. The only draw back is that they are not open as often as I would like. The residents who live on campus face the problem that the restaurants close very early in the day and are not open on weekends.
What to do for fun The two places to hang out are the Well and The Student Union. While the Well is a gym it also has a lot of fun games to play. People all the time are playing sports such as basketball, volleyball, racquetball, soccer, football, rock climbing, dancing, and other activities. However if physical activities are not for you the Student Union has a game room where people can play video games, pool, table tennis and many other things. There are a lot of areas to sit and hang out with friends. On weekends there is always a sports game going on such as a football game where a lot of people go to watch and cheer.
Bang for the buck School tuition is expensive but it does provide a lot of benefits. As a student one can use The Well for free, use all Sacramento public transportation, go to events for free such as movies or concerts, and other small things.
Clubs and Activities There are many activities and clubs to keep you busy during the year. The intramural sports on campus are very competitive and fun. There are trained referees to monitor the games to make sure it is as fun as possible. Also there are many clubs that do anything from snowboarding, painting, discuss politics, and even just play video games. It is easy to get involved and a lot of fun.
Campus Safety The campus security is hardworking. They work around the clock to protect students both during school and at night. They also have emergency phones all across campus to call security. There are shuttles to get safely across campus. Lastly there is a thing called Safe Rides to take you from a party or wherever you are and transport you safely back home.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences CSU: Sacramento or Sac State is an eclectic campus, with diversity shown not only in the architecture, but in the student and faculty populations as well. People from many different backgrounds meet together and walk under the cool shade of the campus trees--at least one representative of each species native to California. Located in the capital of California and alongside the American River, Sac State boasts an active political spirit, proximity to nature, and and an artistic culture.
Tips for prospective students Sac State IS in the capital, so many state jobs and internships are available. The capital is also open to the public, so your state government is never far away. Many other opportunities exist at Sac State: there are free concerts, lectures, clubs, and student-run activities. There are also endless academic resources, including the writing center, the Chemistry HELP office, the Math Lab, and more! Take advantage of all the opportunities given to you!
Academic Rigor A lot of a student's academic experience depends on their professor, and my experience has largely been positive. For the most part, I have been fortunate to have wonderful, attentive professors who are passionate about their subject matter and transform that passion into effective teaching methods.
Many students do feel overwhelmed by their course load, however. The academic rigor really depends on the amount and types of classes an individual takes, and what professor is teaching them. However, many departments try to improve their pass rate not by curving grades, but by making more academic aid available to struggling students.Dorm Life Most of the dorms at Sac State are older buildings, but the American River Courtyard is a new apartment-style dorm that looks like a hotel from the inside, and features a marketplace where dorm students can spend their meal points on groceries. While the walls in the dorms offer little insulation from loud music, the dorm community is very friendly, and the leaders of the floor (RA's) are students as well, and always approachable. The RA's organize many fun events and try their best to accommodate their residents.
The first floor has a front desk where residents can check out cooking and sports equipment, learn what's happening on campus, and get mail.Food and Dining Sac State has big chains like Jamba Juice, Panda Express (two locations!), Burger King, Subway, and Round Table, as well as the more local businesses like Togo's and Java City. It also has Mexican, Mediterranean, and Indian food. The Dining Commons all-you-can eat buffet has a nice selection, although it does get tiresome to eat at the same place every day. There is an abundance of restaurants beyond campus as well, including several sushi restaurants (Tokyo Fro's, Sushi Hook, Bento Box), a Mongolian grill, Chipotle, IHOP, Denny's, and more.
What to do for fun Get active in the community! Students can join an intramural sports league through the Well (the wellness and fitness center on campus), join a dance club, attend free concerts and comedy shows, study with friends in one of the many, many study locations, volunteer in community service, join one of the student organizations and put on interesting events, see student artwork in the galleries, and many other things!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The library was built backwards--the side that faces the quad was meant to be the back end!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus i love the computer labs available on the 2nd floor of the mendocino building. being a comms major, they are super convenient for me.
Clubs and Activities browse all the different clubs during the club fair in the center of campus the first weeks of the semester. i'm sure you will find one that suits you and its a great way to make new friends.
Greek Life can be very fun and help you to get involved. one thing to consider is the large time commitment it ends up being. sometimes can interfere with your school work if you aren't careful.
Campus Safety feel fairly safe for the most part. wouldn't recommend it for girls to walk out to their cars by themselves when it is dark outside. good thing is that the campus provides escorts when you are in need that are very convenient.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the learning environment is great and the professors really take the time to get to know you, as a person. sacramento, itself, is a very historic city were major events occurred. it's incredible to be able to explore those grounds as a student here.
Tips for prospective students be prepared to go out of your comfort zone. there's not always going to be someone with your same ethnicity or background. be open to new people. also, some professors have heavy accents so be prepared to deal with that.
Academic Rigor the courses are really not that hard as long as you do your reading and actually pay attention during lecture. learn how to manage your time in order to keep up with the course. most of the professors are on a website called sacct so the information for that course is easily accessible.
Dorm Life living at the dorms is convenient for those long gaps in between classes and meeting new people. the rooms are not very big and there is not much storage or closet space. also, the restrooms can be dirty at times so be prepared to deal with people who are not as clean or neat as you. it can get loud and rowdy at times, if you can't deal with that then the dorms are not a very good idea.
Food and Dining at first it was really good and there seemed to be a great variety of food. as the weeks went by, it was sort of like the same thing over and over again.if your okay with burgers, pizza, sandwiches and pasta then this is no problem. the dining space is big, well furnished and it gets over crowded.
What to do for fun although there are many hookah bars around, there are not many 18&over clubs around sac state. yes there's house parties and kickbacks, but if you prefer to dance instead of drinking, then there's not much to choose from. there are only two malls around and a couple of shopping centers.
Bang for the buck i can't say that i'm not satisfied but i think that we are over paying for on campus housing. considering the fact that it costs less to rent an apartment, we are paying twice or even three times as much to stay at the dorms.
Campus Safety sac state is one of the safest campuses around. we have police officers on duty 24/7. they are easily accessible and will even escort you if you ask them to.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences california state university, sacramento is a relaxing campus with nice and uniqe students. the teachers are friendly and easy to get to know and help a lot. the campus has a lot to offer and anyone who goes here is lucky.
Tips for prospective students join something that can get you proirty registration. it helps a lot when you are a freshman. you get last pick but if you have proirty you'll be fine and get the classes you want and need.
Academic Rigor the classes are tough but if you stay on top of your work you should be fine. some classes are really hard to get into because of high demand for them be sure to stay on top of those.
Dorm Life the dorms are fun but can be nosy at times over all it's a great way to make friends and have a great time. they even have themed floors where they do cool events. it should be interesting to join. i enojoyed it.
Food and Dining the food can be really good sometimes you have to off days where you just get tired of it but the campus has a lot of other places that offer food besides the dinning commons.
What to do for fun there's loads to do for fun. you can join peak adventures which is where you go on hiking trips, and more. there's the well which has plenty to do all the time like rock climbing walls, zumba, spinning classes and much more. also there are a lot of clubs on campus that have events going on and are really fun to go check out.
Clubs and Activities there are a bunch of clubs at sac state and are all equally as fun.
Greek Life the greek life is good here there is not a formal greek row in sacramento but they offer loads of different fraternities and sororities.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences a very nice university however it is going through too many economic problems. most of their instate students are not taking advantage of the housing options on campus. the housing is overly expensive so sacramento students live at home and commute into the school treating it like a junior college.
Tips for prospective students be careful applying to this school out of state because the wue program could restrict you from what you truly want to do. i really wanted to do graphic design however the graphic design majoring program is closed to wue participants. it makes me really mad because i really wanted to go to sac state to major in communications and graphic design because the bay area is a lively place for internships.
Academic Rigor probably challenging enough however i doubt it is as challenging as any of the schools within washington state.
Dorm Life never lived on sac states campus from what i saw they put freshmen into nasty housing that is dated. for the money you pay for sacramento be careful about applying and know that there is not much dorm life because it is a big commuter school.
Food and Dining food and dining is all around sac state and sacramento. the food is of higher quality in california compared to washingtons schools restraunts in most cases.
What to do for fun go to concerts,go out to eat with commuters or try to find some activites on campus with the very few people that live there.
Bang for the buck not really a bang for your buck because california is cheating out of state students while california students can easily breeze into whatever major of their choice. sac state purposely makes you not want to be on the wue program so you can major in the more popular majors.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus location is not in downtown sacramento and is weirdly placed 15 minutes away from any city life. their winco is 15 miles or more north or south in the valley so you need a car to go to school at sac state.
Great for these types of students california students only because it is almost like a junior college with housing however california students are spoiled so they do not live on campus. student life is not really important to this school.
Clubs and Activities very small clubs and activities since it is mostly a commuter and transfer school.
Greek Life not that big of a greek life system if you want to go to a big greek life college in my state wsu pullman and the university of washington is a better choice.
Campus Safety questioning the safety of the part of town sacramento state is in. i have heard lots of reports of homeless people and strange people wandering around the campus. make sure to not be alone at night if you have to walk through the trails or across the bridge.

Academic Rigor pass remedial classes and you would not dropout.
Dorm Life i love the dorm life in jenkins hall. there are always activities going on every week and girls' night out. the residential associates are extra nice and responsible.
Food and Dining the food here is pretty good, but they usually have the same kinds of food everyday such as mexican and asian food.
Clubs and Activities there are many types of sororities and fraternities that are fun to join and get involved and meet more people.
Campus Safety police are always at the parking lot and watching over criminals like if anything bad goes on.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences come to california state university, sacramento!
Tips for prospective students i would advise prospective students to enroll as early as possible into the classes they want. although, many students do drop the first week of class, classes tend to fill easily. as a transfer student it is wise to crash (sit in) a class and try to add given that your priority for registration will not be early and your transfer units will not reflect until later. definitely get your sac state onecard as soon as possible to avoid long lines in the lassen hall (i would suggest get it during your orientation day). this card also will allow you to receive free bus services for commuting students within sacramento.
Academic Rigor sacramento state has professional professors that do want you to succeed. there are many opportunities for personal growth and advancement on and off campus. many internships are available even for credit.
Dorm Life i do not know much about dorm life because i live off campus outside of sacramento. however, i have not heard any complaints about on campus living.
Food and Dining there are many surrounding food courts and dinning areas. the campus is not too far from downtown sacramento which is excellent for other options.
http://www.dining.csus.edu/dc/What to do for fun sacramento state recently built a recreational center called the wells: http://thewell.csus.edu/ it is very impressive.
Great for these types of students all types of students will enjoy this campus. there is much diversity. the campus is eco-friendly. bikes are welcome and good for getting around the campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the tuition prices are quite reasonable. take a free tour of the campus.be sure to apply the semester prior to your planned attendance.
Tips for prospective students complete all of your general education requirements at a community college. the university is only accepting transfer students at this time.get your two year foreign language requirement completed in high school so you won't have to take it at university.
Academic Rigor i have been told by several of my friends who have attended that the academic rigor is not too demanding.
Food and Dining there are all kinds of eating options.
What to do for fun sacramento is so close to the sf bay, lake tahoe, reno, and there are several lakes near by.the american river is extremely close for water sports.
Bang for the buck the tuition is very reasonably priced. the university themselves look for all your other grants, scholarships, and loans after you initially apply for your pell grant.you will qualify for a university grant if you are not eligible for a cal-grant so your initial tuition of $6,600 will get covered.

Tips for prospective students Make use early on of counseling, the career center, and other services for students.
Academic Rigor Most of the classes are satisfactory but not too hard to pass. The teachers are fair graders and the essay load for classes is not too much.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I love Sacramento State. All the professors are very nice and helpful. The environment is diverse and students are amazingly nice.
Tips for prospective students Get to know the school and really take advantage of all the resources given there.
Academic Rigor I don't believe the school is very strict but they do believe in their students and try to give their best help and knowledge to us.
Dorm Life I have never lived in the dorms, I live in a house with two other Sac State students yet I feel as if I live in a dorm. My roommates are my best friends but I think it would have been a great experience to have been able to live in the Dorms.
Food and Dining I like the fact that we were given a lot of food choices, however I wish that there was an actual cafeteria that served certain foods at a decent price. Also, I don't understand why there is two Panda Express'. I think they could have built a different restaurant instead.
What to do for fun There are plenty of great things to do for fun at Sac State such as The Well for example. The state of the art gym provides a rock climbing wall, indoor track, basketball court, soccer court, weights, cardio equipment, locker rooms, cafe, health center, and much more. There is also the Union where many students can dine with their friends and also the music room where students can listen to music on comfortable bean chairs in private rooms.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I do not believe there are any unusual traditions on campus.
Great for these types of students Sac state is a great school for almost every type of student because of it's diversity. There are the nursing and health students, music students, business students, criminal justice students, and much more.
Clubs and Activities Sac State has many clubs and activities. The Well provides many classes such as tahitian dancing, zumba, cardio workouts, and a few more. They have many clubs too such as club majors, I am in the Health Club. Or they have sports clubs such as the Tennis club or Ski club.
Greek Life My first semester at Sac State I tried rushing for different sororities and went to a few rush gatherings. I had a lot of fun and met some really nice people however I couldn't afford the cost of being part of a sorority because I was unemployed.
Campus Safety Although there have been some reported incidence at school I think security is pretty good. They have alarm buttons all over the school and parking lots and they have carts that would actually pick you up and drive you to your car or security guards that can walk you as well. One thing I thought that was great was that they provided designated student drivers that would drop and pick up students that have been drinking.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am a nursing major and I feel this is one of the best public BSN schools in the state. I have heard reviews from other state schools, and Sac State nursing is a far more intensive program. The teachers are very knowledgeable, inspiring, and available to students. We have Simulation labs that are state-of-the-art in a mock hospital setting. All students experience practice and perfection before being thrust into a patient room. Sac State Nursing also has the most clinical hours including a 4th semester preceptor-ship in the area of your choosing (Labor and Delivery, NICU, Emergency, ICU, etc.).
Am enjoying being here For me it is a long drive, but it is worth it. I don't know how much an older, married student fits in with the overall school demographic. I find it hard to relate to others at this school due to the age/lifestyle differences.
Bang for the buck I rate this as fair. CSUS is cheaper than private and university, but the cost of going to school keeps increasing and the financial aid isn't.
Tips for prospective students For nursing, this program has a very competitive application process. It's best to take your prerequisites at a community college and be sure to get a 4.0!
Great for these types of students I know I will have a great career when I graduate. I feel well prepared to start practicing as an RN. Many of the graduates of this program are getting interviews and jobs faster than any other school in the area. We are well-prepared to extend our education after obtaining the Bachelors degree.

Am enjoying being here Sacramento State has to be one of the most beautiful campuses I've seen so far and as far as the people, they're friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere at Sac State is amazing and it'll make you never want to leave.
Tips for prospective students If you're looking to gain knowledge, broaden your perspective, and have a good time doing it, Sacramento State is the school for you! It's a campus where you can't help but smile because it's so beautiful and everyone around just seems so happy. Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors are fun and approachable with open office hours welcoming in students with questions.
Bang for the buck Technically the CSU system is affordable when compared to other systems such as the UC and Non-Resident fees, but with the rising tuition costs financial aid is a necessity for my budget.
Tips for prospective students Be as competitive as possible, we are an impacted campus so make yourself shine! Take a campus tour to physically know if Sac State is for you, this would be a great time to put yourself in the campus life. Also take a look into our Honors program, which is the hidden gem of Sac State, and if you have any questions never be afraid to call the Admissions office for clarification.
Great for these types of students If you love city life, we are right next to downtown. But, given our location in the middle of northern California we are only a couple of hours from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. The campus is medium sized, but when you're in it it seems rather large, but you can easily adapt.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At first I wasn't really absorbing anything from my classes because they weren't challenging enough. But I think their higher-level courses keep students on their toes, as I am doing now.
Am enjoying being here I'm having an all right time being at CSUS. It could be a whole heck of a lot worse! The campus is clean, the classes are usually professional (not like a high school classroom unless it's full of freshmen!) and it's pretty peaceful.
Bang for the buck Well, it's California guys. The state budget cuts are making things pricey. I wish I could say that I'm getting what I'm paying for, but I could be getting a whole lot more.
Tips for prospective students Enroll in classes as soon as you're allowed. GO TO ADVISING MEETINGS! They help you plan the next semester and get your GE out of the way fast.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here at Sacramento State are very helpful. They take the time to make sure that you understand the material that you are learning. I learned more here in my first few weeks then I did through out my whole high school career. Especially in my English class because my professor is teaching us things that my high school teachers never did. And if you need even more help they have tutors and everything here to help you pass the course.
Am enjoying being here Here at Sacramento State the campus is really calm, nothing to crazy happening here. And I like that because it helps me focus on my studying and homework. but hey do have all of these different clubs and all of these different activities to do. For example the other day we had the author of the book called The Devil's Highway here on campus and he talked about the book. Then he was apart of a panel and they talked about the immigration issue that we have here in the United States. And that was really interesting to go to and I would have never went to anything like that in high school.
Bang for the buck Sacramento State like any other college is expensive. Just have all of your financial aid together and it will not be that expensive.
Tips for prospective students Sacramento State is a great school to attend. Just do your homework and attend class and you will do great.
