Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Canisius has great programs for the majors and minors that they offer. The science programs are very demanding, but will prepare you for medical, dental, and vet schools.
Am enjoying being here There is always something to do on campus, whether it be a club meeting, sports game, or college sponsored event. There are so many opportunities to make new friends. The college also provides many opportunities for internships, community outreach programs, research, and great on-campus jobs.
Bang for the buck The price for tuition and room may be a little high, even with the amazing merit scholarships offered, but you get so much in return. The professors are so kind and caring, the class sizes are almost always under 40 students, and the events are great. Because Canisius is a Jesuit school there are many service trips that students can take such as Winter Service Week, Alternative Spring Break, and International Service Immersion trips. These sometimes cost extra, but the college picks up some of the expenses.
Tips for prospective students If you apply online there is no application fee and the form is much easier to fill out. When I was making my college decision, I went to an overnight at Canisius and that really let me see what the student life was really like.
Great for these types of students Canisius is great for outgoing and driven students. You won't feel like a number. Professors and other faculty will actually know you as a person and take an interest in who you really are.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers know their material very well and have time to help students in and out of the classroom. Material that has been covered in high school is expanded on and you will begin to develop your own conclusions in certain subjects.
Am enjoying being here Canisius is filled with many activities, there is virtually something to do for everyone. Personally, I enjoy the Little Theatre, but there are many clubs for you to join. School-wise, the teachers are very helpful and understanding, and are willing to help you if you ask.
Bang for the buck It's very expensive to go here, especially if you intend to dorm, so be prepared to apply for as many scholarships as possible. Don't forget, every bit counts!
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to get lower grades than you've received in high school, it's natural and happens to everyone. It's a big jump, going from high school to college, and Canisius is filled with opportunities for you. If you ever find yourself stuck, you can always talk to your advisor, one of the most helpful resources on the campus.
Great for these types of students Canisius is great for everybody, they really do have something for everyone. If you have any questions, be sure to go to www.canisius.edu!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Yes and no. Much of the 100 classes are review if you have taken high school level versions of the classes. You can cruise through with ease if you are motivated to learn and complete course work and home work. You won't get much learning, outside of the History and the technology fields, until your second year if you have already started to work on your field of study.
Am enjoying being here I don't believe I am a good view on the good points of the school, as I really didn't spend time on campus in my first year more than for my classes during the school year. What time I did spend there was very enjoyable, with many things to do in the evening. There are many places around campus to hang out with friends, a lot of events that happen every week, It's hard to find a day that there is nothing you can do.
Bang for the buck Not initially showing it's worth unless you can get most of it paid for. The higher classes may prove to make all of this worth it but the starting classes are sub-par in my opinion. The only class that put out as much information as you'd expect from a higher learning class was History of Modern Europe and, though I enjoyed the class, it's not applicable to most degrees.
Tips for prospective students If you can, I'd suggest getting into a two year school to cover all the basics for less then applying here. The Jesuits schools are suppose to be very good as a name to get jobs with, but as this is only student hearsay, take it with caution.
Great for these types of students The school has a great Psychology department, most teachers I spoke to in high school knew this school for this department. Also, the two classes I took so far in this department have both being very engaging.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Granted I came from Public schooling but I have learned a lot attending this schools. Things I may have had previous skills in are being enforced. Most professors are extremely helpful no matter if you are and A or a C student, if you can't get help from your professor the school offers a variety of tutors.
Am enjoying being here I love this school, so much. I can barely put it into words. The campus is gorgeous, the faculty is welcoming and students are well for the most part on my intelligence level if not above. the people hear are so diverse and it extremely rare or of choice to be without a niche of friends. Though it may be more difficult for commuters it is extremely easy to keep a social life and balance grades, resume builders and a job.
Bang for the buck The school is expensive. Do not try and enter without going over your finances. Sometimes I think it's just obscenely overpriced. I love getting the perks of a private education but sometimes I feel like I will be bankrupt at graduation. If you are smart, hard working and check out all of your scholarship options beforehand you have potential to balance the hefty tuition cost. However the classes are small, the equipment up-to-date and the events for the school just to keep it's student happy are great. There are a lot of opportunities it does offer so if you can afford it, please do attend!
Tips for prospective students Work out you finances and schooling beforehand. You never know if there are limited opportunities you could be walking right by. I found out at the end of my sophomore year that NCCC offers a great Digital Media Arts program that gets you an associates degree then sets you up to transfer to canisius, not only are you getting canisius accepted classes out of the way but you're saving money!
If you want to do something, change something please SPEAK UP! The school is extremely observant and if you need help, want change then TELL THEM. Struggling with finances, classes and life I was suffering alone, but when I spoke up I was immediately given attention. They want to help!Great for these types of students I hear that the school does well for it's Business program and somewhat medical. I hear NOTHING about it's business transfer to F.I.T. program. The school is extremely involved in international studies and has a wide variety of foreign students, programs and study aboard options. As a digital media arts majors I do face issues with focusing on my specific media, they do NOT choose that for you! The school does have video game design that is not associated with the computer science major of the school! There are classes from simplest website and flash videos to complex coding for iphone apps and more. The professors involved are absolutely fantastic. While the Canisius t.v. program seems non-existent, I have seen multiple students majoring in digital media arts and communications be sent on trips to foreign countries, concerts, expos, etc to build experience. * OPPORTUNITIES*

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers at Canisius are very passionate about what they do. They are all more than willing to help students outside of class time. Each presents information in different ways, but I find that I have been able to learn in each different setting.
Am enjoying being here I chose this school because of how I felt visiting it. I felt comfortable and at home here. The student community is great, like a giant, close family. Everyone is very friendly and most importantly I feel safe here. College is supposed to be a great, fun time, and it definitely is at Canisius.
Bang for the buck Canisius has been a great education so far and I look forward to the rest of my time here, however, it is expensive. In all honesty, I feel that attending Canisius is totally worth the cost. I am getting out of my education everything I am putting into it.
Tips for prospective students My biggest tip is to visit the campus, take a tour, and spend a day shadowing as a student. If you think you may like it enough to have it in the top 5 choices for college, then spend a day going to classes and perhaps spend an overnight. You can only get the true feel for a school by being a member of its community, however short that may last.
Great for these types of students Canisius is great for all types of students, so don't get me wrong, but I feel as though it is especially great for students from the Western New York area. Canisius is the perfect next step forward from high school.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Canisius College is a lot of fun. We have tons of events all over campus and because the school is smaller, the students have more of an opportunity to know each other and get involved on campus. The college also has a wide diversity of clubs which allows you to really get into whatever club you want to join; if the club you want isn't there you can also start a club pretty easily.
Tips for prospective students Don't be shy. Everyone in the freshman class is new so making friends will be really easy if you just open up and allow people to get to know you.
Academic Rigor The professors on campus are pretty tough, but because the class sizes are so small, you can really get to know your professors well and get one-on-one time if you need some extra help.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a lot of fun. After freshman year, you and you friends can try to all live on the same floor by building a community floor. This makes it a great time and you basically get to live with all your best friends.
Food and Dining The food at Canisius isn't the best, but not many colleges are so don't let this deter you from coming here!
What to do for fun On campus there are a lot of events that many clubs, such as RHA, run. This allows for students to meet new people or hang out with old ones! The events are always a lot of fun, and have things like a bounce house and rock-wall climbing too.
Bang for the buck The tuition to campus is pretty expensive but luckily Canisius usually offers are really good financial package to most of its students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are many times that you can here kids lifting there arms in the air and shouting MAGIS! It was a tradition started by Fr. Bucki who is now leaving Canisius. The word Magis is Latin for more and literally means that you have done more. It's always a good thing!
Great for these types of students Canisius fits students of all academic types and learning styles!
Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs on campus which makes getting involved on campus really easy and a lot of fun.
Greek Life There isn't much Greek life on campus, but there are some. Greek life is present on campus though.
Campus Safety Public Safety is taken very seriously on campus, and also is really friendly. It works out great for many students, and if anyone ever feels unsafe walking to their dorms Public Safety is more than willing to escort them there. Also, Public Safety will send out text messages to student's phones to warn them if there is any real dangerous situation occurring.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Canisius is not a bad school. It is expensive but if you have the money it is well worth it. It is a small school so plan on seeing the same people on a regular basis and getting a lot of personal attention.
Tips for prospective students Remember to stay social and stay on top of your work. Don't get too caught up on going out if you have a budget. Fines add up and you should hold on to your money as long as you are able.
Academic Rigor There is a lot of work at Canisius. Professors are always assigning readings and in my experience I have done more essays than I can count on my fingers. Professors like you to attend, if you don't they may lower your grade from an A- to a B+.
Dorm Life There are Community Builder events that help you to get to know the other people that live in the dorms. The dorms can be very loud on the weekend but they're worth staying in because of the experience of living away from your parents. You have a lot of freedom in the dorms and in my personal opinion the common rooms that every floor has are the best part.
Food and Dining At Canisius there is one dining hall, a Subway, 2Mato (which serves pasta and pizza), a Tim Hortons in the library, and Iggys which is a small restaurant located over Palisano Pavillion. The food isn't bad, it is nothing to be afraid of. Just keep track of your Griff Bucks, they run out fast.
What to do for fun Some people take walks around Forest Lawn Cemetary while others take the subway down town on Thursday nights where anyone 18 and over can get in and dance the night away. Elmwood isn't too far out and has excellent dining and shopping. Other than that many people like to hang around the dorms, join frats, sororities, or sports teams, or go to events that are being held on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Canisius College is a Jesuit school. There are many special masses that go on during the school year. Just today I walked past a wedding!
Great for these types of students It's great for students who need personal attention from professors and for those who like the atmosphere of a small school. There isn't a whole lot to do in the area, so be able to amuse yourself. If you're social, this shouldn't be a problem.
Clubs and Activities Canisius College has all sorts of clubs and activities that range from a Harry Potter club to a Rifle Club. The people who are a part of them are very welcoming so do not be afraid to join. You'll quickly become part of a group if you get involved with them and don't worry, you will find the club for you and if you can't, you can create your own.
Campus Safety The campus is very safe. Although it is located in a bad part of Buffalo, there is Public Safety driving around everywhere. Be careful about where you go at night, don't stray too far from the campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Canisius has a great atmosphere. The campus is beautiful and everyone is very friendly. This college is very expensive but definitely worth the money especially if they have a great program for your major.
Tips for prospective students Do well on the SAT's and ACT's to get a lot of scholarship money since it is really expensive. If you're going to get a work study job make sure to apply and interview very early on as positions fill very quickly.
Academic Rigor This definitely isn't high school anymore. Professor expect a LOT more than high school teachers did. Some professors are not very helpful and you have to teach yourself a lot of the material. It's sometimes hard to stay on track with professors that don't do a good job at explaining something in a way everyone will understand.
Dorm Life The dorms are really nice especially once you get out of the freshman dorms, not that they are bad. There are so many clubs and on campus activities that you will never be bored. The school really goes out of their way to make sure that there is something for everyone. The janitorial staff and the Public Safety officers are always friendly.
Food and Dining The food selection here is very good. There is the dining hall which always has at least two or three delicious options. Along with that there is tomato, they serve pizza, pizzans, calzones, and pasta. Then there is Iggy's which never fails to be delicious. A little on the greasier side but they have all sorts of burgers and sandwiches, mostly fried foods. Then there is also a Tim Hortons and Subway right on campus. They also have a cafe on campus where you can buy food to make yourself along with an ice cream shop where they make smoothies and milkshakes. Overall there are a lot of great options so you'll never get sick of the same stuff everyday.
What to do for fun There are so many clubs that the school offers. There is something for everyone. Whether it be a sorority or fraternity that suits you or a theater club or bowling club or being a DJ for The Wire Canisius' radio station. Not only that but the campus is only minutes from downtown Buffalo where there is plenty to do. It is also only a few blocks from the Buffalo Zoo.
Bang for the buck Though Canisius is very expensive it really is a great school. They have a lot of great major programs, so much to do to get involved on campus, great variety of offered majors. It has a great atmosphere and the majority of the staff are very friendly and personable.
Campus Safety There are public safety officer all around campus through all hours of the night. The campus isn't in a great part of town but the Buffalo Police and Public Safety do a great job at keeping the campus safe.
