    Am learning a lot

WOW! I have learned so much from taking classes at CMU, not just pertaining towards my major but even in the prerequisite classes. Central has tons of opportunities to draw from and caters to every one's individual passions- it is truly amazing!

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Central, I can honestly say that majority of people I meet on campus are very cordial, congenial, and all around happy people. The various events are awesome and becoming friends with roommates is also a great experience!

    Bang for the buck

While Central is not the most expensive college in Michigan, it still costs a pretty penny to those who are of middle-class status; however, this should not stop anyone from applying! Central offers many scholarships in just about every field, and everyone is eligible to receive up to two- which really comes in handy!! Central also does tons of free give-aways, free events, free food- so when you think about it, much of your tuition will be worth it, and you will feel as if your money is not being wasted.

    Tips for prospective students

Set your goal as: I'm going to be the best that I can be! Making new friends is a great way to start your networking, but remember that your education comes first and don't let anyone stand in the way of your dreams! Stay focused, have fun (not too much fun-ha ha) and get involved!! Personally, being involved in many fundraisers, assisting with events, and working with leadership initiatives and studies I have learned that staying involved is the best way to really thrive here at Central.

Great for these types of students

Central is great for students who want the big-college-feel on a small campus. Here at Central you will feel very independent and confident, the campus is very easy to learn and very small so there will be no bus catching for classes-Phew! Also, for those who like to be around fun-loving, and exciting people Central is the place to be! Most students come to Central for: Nursing, Business, Broadcasting, Music, Political Science, and Journalism. Rest assure, whatever you need-Central has it!! GO CENTRAL! hope to see many new faces there!!

    Am learning a lot

Having only been at Central Michigan University for a year, I feel like I have learned so much. Not only are students taught so much in the classroom, they learn through volunteering and getting involved on campus.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely LOVE being at Central! All of the people that I have met have been so friendly, and willing to help. I really like the big campus feel on the campus itself. The campus is beautiful, and there is so much that a student can do to get involved.

    Bang for the buck

Although Central Michigan University isn't the cheapest, or most expensive school in Michigan, it is quite expensive. Overall though, I think going to Central is definitely worth it. Students get into sports events for free, as well as many events on campus. There are always free giveaway, free food, and things to do.

Great for these types of students

Not to be cliche, but I think that Central Michigan University would be a good school for any type of student. There are always events and activities going on, as well as places for students to study and get schoolwork done. There is a warm feeling to campus, of being included. Even though there are over 27,000 students going to Central, it doesn't feel like that many at all.

    Bang for the buck

It's quite expensive but the amount of education you receive while attending Central Michigan University prepares you or anything in the world.

    Tips for prospective students

Best thing to do is to apply for as many scholarships as you can. Central offers scholarships in almost every category. Also like any other college getting a ACT score of 21 and above helps you get perks such as more scholarships an grants offered by the government. If you do attend CMU I would suggest joining some sort of activity. It can be a sorority/fraternity or becoming a Marching Chip like I am. This helps you to get a sense of family on campus. CMU is a very friendly campus and you will find your crowd as soon as you join. Campus life is a blast. There is always something to do on campus. You have performances by comedians, music artist, and magicians in your same building! There is never a dull moment here. FIRE UP CHIPS!

Great for these types of students

Music majors, education majors, and all various humanities majors are the majority of the people I know that attend CMU. CMU really has almost every major. It's something for anyone here.

    Am learning a lot

I thoroughly enjoy all of the classes that I have taken so far at CMU, I really like their University Program that you have to complete to fill your General Education fulfillment. It gives you a chance to learn about things you would have never been able to take because it is not apart of your degree.

    Am enjoying being here

CMU is full of Registered Student Organizations, and Extracuriculatory Activities. There is all kinds of fun things to do across campus,

    Bang for the buck

The downfall of CMU is that the CMU Promise ended in 2007, and so the price of tuition keeps rising. You're still getting what you paid for, but it is beginning to get more and more costly.

    Tips for prospective students

Scholarships are very very helpful, and you need to keep a keen eye on your G.P.A. don't get too carried away in the fun that Central's campus has to offer.

Great for these types of students

Central is great for ALL types of students! More specifically they have a really good Teaching, Theatre, Psychology and Business Programs.

    Am learning a lot

My classes have been amazing. All of my professors are enthusiastic about the subjects they teach, which makes learning easy and interesting, and none of my classes have been taught by student assistants. Central also offers an honors program that allows for smaller honors classes and gives priority registration; the honors classes usually have a maximum of 20 to 30 people, allowing for more one on one time with the professor. Also, the professors have mandatory office hours, and they are always willing to help students during those times if someone is struggling. They also are willing to set up meeting times if you are busy during their office hours.

    Am enjoying being here

It is amazing to be around people who are all at school in order to actually learn. There is always somewhere to study, whether it be in your room, in the basement of your residence hall, or at the Library. The residence halls set rules for quiet times, around midnight usually, so that it is possible to sleep at a decent hour. Also, Central offers many ways to just have fun and relax. There are free movies, free food, and free events going on around campus all the time. We can access the Student Activity Center for free where we can go swimming, work out, or maybe play Walleyball. I love being in such an academic and fun environment.

    Bang for the buck

Central is not the most expensive public college in Michigan, but it is up there. The tuition costs are not that big of a deal, and there are amenities included in the price such as getting into football games for free and having access to the Student Activity Center. The only part of the cost that might be a little excessive comes with the meal plan costs. The dining halls are only open until 7:00 or 7:30 on weekdays and 6:30 on weekends. This makes eating three meals a day difficult sometimes, and having two meals a day is only a couple hundred dollars cheaper. Other than that, the amount of money it costs to go to Central versus the skills and lessons you learn is definitely worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. Get involved with volunteering, clubs, work, sports, and research. Central offers myriad opportunities for becoming involved, and it makes your experience that much more fun. It is important to get to know other people, and being involved is the best way to do that. College is a great way to meet other people who have the same interests as you, and Central has over 100 registered student organizations that allow for just that. By becoming involved, you can not only make connections with new friends but with professors and advisors who can help you with obtaining your dream career.

Great for these types of students

Central is a fantastic place for students interested in volunteering and undergraduate research. Anytime you feel like donating some of your time, all you have to do is go online to the volunteer website and sign up for upcoming events. You can also join clubs like the Red Cross Club or Invisible Children. You can go to the animal shelter or soup kitchen almost any day of the week. Central offers tremendous opportunities for volunteering. Central also offers a lot of undergraduate research. I met with a professor in my area of study as a freshman, and within a week, I was working with one of his graduate students on research for her thesis. You can become involved in research all over campus if you try, and the professors are willing to help you find exactly what you want to study.

    Am learning a lot

Even though most of my classes are intro (100 level) classes, I feel like I am learning a lot! My professors are all easy to get along with, easy to contact, and easy to approach for help. While each class is taught differently, they all have one thing in common; They are fun!

    Am enjoying being here

I am from Mt. Pleasant so CMU is not very far from home. I enjoying my time here, but it is different for me! I live at home so I am not necessarily getting the college experience, but that has nothing to do with Central!

    Bang for the buck

Because I go to class every day and make the most of my time, I believe I am getting the most bang for my buck! There are also all sorts of classes you can test out of at Central so you can save even more.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Go to class every day. Even if the teacher doesn't take attendance, they can recognize the serious students.
    2. Apply for scholarships. Even though Central is cheaper than many colleges, you will need some extra spending money!
    3. Look out for bikers on campus!

Great for these types of students

Central is great for ALL types of students!

But be serious about your education!

Right now I'm trying to fill my competency requirements so it has been a little bit of a repeat of high school, but the classes I've been taking to pursue my degree are really interesting and exiting to attend! I didn't have AP in my high school, so I never had the opportunity to already have these competencies completed, even partially, If you have that opportunity, DEFINITELY use it!

    Am enjoying being here

I love CMU, the people here are so friendly. Especially on North Campus (but I'm bias!) The only thing I really don't enjoy is the Honors Program. I joined because I thought it would be nice to be a part of a community committed to learning over partying. What I don't like about it is the huge amount of requirements, because of a project required in my HON100 class (a REQUIRED class for all Honors freshmen) called my Personal Development Project I don't have any time to join student organizations. I'm too busy doing activities and attending events I don't really want to be a part of or am passionate for. Other than that though, I love CMU, it's a cute place!

    Bang for the buck

If you can get enough academic scholarships it isn't very difficult to pay for tuition, but I'll tell you what, I'm pretty worried about being able to pay for school next year because some of my scholarships don't renew.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely apply for as many scholarships as possible, and if you're interested in the Honors Program don't just look at the information provided by the school. Try to get in contact with someone who is currently in the program and can give you a different and more realistic perspective.

Great for these types of students

CMU is perfect for students who want to go to a big school without being somewhere intimidating like Ypsilanti or Detroit. There are a lot of opportunities here, social and scholastic, you just have to be able to balance them.

I love my classes, and my professors have not only been helpful, but they are very resourceful and respectful. I love that I got right into classes that count towards my major!

    Am enjoying being here

CMU provides a wide variety of activities for its wide variety of students. There are activities for those who are athletic, religious, volunteers, musically talented, and more! The dorms provide a great place to make friends which makes being in Mount Pleasant even better.

    Bang for the buck

Though it may seem expensive, Central is very competitive with comparable Universities. The Student Book Exchange offers great deals on books, and the choices of meal plans and housing opportunities makes it easy for school to be affordable. Also, CMU offers scholarships to help with tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

I would reccomend making the trip to Mount Pleasant. The small town atmosphere offers a welcoming campus for prospective students. The students are friendly and helpful, and tour groups go all year. Come up and visit to ask questions, get aquainted, and even make some new friends right away.

Great for these types of students

Central is a great place for students that like the thought of being a part of something big. CMU's campus is consolidated, and very clean. There are a lot of students, but the way the campus is layed out allows students to easily find others in their field of study. This type of atmosphere creates friendships that could last a lifetime.

I have learned so much being here at CMU. The professors are very knowledgeable in their studies, which provides students like myself to a better understanding to what it being taught. All of the professors that I have experienced have been enthusiastic about their fields of studies, and are excited to teach. The University Program courses that you are required to take for graduation give the student a broader education experience. The student is required to take a course from each sub-group in the UP's. Whether it is science, religion or history, a student can choose courses of their interest to provide a general education that could possibly help with a student's tough decision in selecting a major.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely enjoy CMU. The class sizes and campus are small, but you are able to experience new people and things everyday. I have made great friends that I will have for the rest of my life, and I have had a great time in school, at sporting events, and extracurricular.

    Bang for the buck

CMU can be a little pricey due to its small budget and size, but coming from a lower class family, I have had no problem paying for college. The financial aid staff here at CMU go out of their way to help you with your options and payments for your college education, because that is what matters the most to them. CMU provides payment plans for you and your family to benefit your budget in paying for a university. It is easy and anyone would be able to help you in the process.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class!! You will miss out if you decide to miss a class! This can tie in with it being a bang for you buck. If you miss a class that is money wasted. Another thing is do an extracurricular! Whether it's a sorority, fraternity, RSO or an intermmural team, this will help your process in making friends, staying in shape or keeping busy. Lastly, don't come in knowing what you are doing with your life unless you are really sure. Explore what CMU has to offer! There are lots of programs to choose from and let the UP's help you decide what you are really interested in.

Most of the classes at CMU are pretty small, so you are able to communicate with your professors and ask questions. If you complete all of the assignments and study often, you will learn a lot and succeeding will be easy. Being at CMU you have a lot of opportunities to participate in projects and research that will expand learning opportunities.

    Am enjoying being here

I am definitely enjoying being at Central Michigan University. The campus is fairly small which is nice if you are used to a small town. There are a lot of clubs and things to do on campus. The campus is also very nice.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition at Central Michigan University is fairly reasonable compared to most colleges in Michigan, especially private colleges. They also tend to give decent scholarships to most students. The education is also pretty good, so it is worth the cost of tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

The number 1 tip is to study very hard and make sure you go to all of your classes.

This school is great for students who want the small community feel, yet still have the chance to meet lots of different people outside their community. Its in a small town so everything is centered around the school, so the town is very spirited as well. Its a great school as long as you choose to work hard and do you best.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you bring something to entertain yourself on those rainy weekends when you've done all your homework, or else your going to be doing a whole lot of nothing. Another tip I learned after coming to college is that rain boots are a fantastic invention.

    Academic Rigor

How tough the school is academically is up to you. You can choose the easy way out and purposefully take courses that are easy for you so you can party. Or you can take your studies seriously and take courses that are challenging and try to achieve the best scores possible. Its up to you.

    Dorm Life

The dorm rooms themselves are overall really nice the only down side can be your neighbors. If you not living on the top floor you unfortunately hear everything that goes on above.

    Food and Dining

Unlike most schools we don't have to eat fast food every single day, we have wide variety of options to choose from, whether its Southern, American, Mediterranean, or just a soup and sandwich. They also cook it right in front of you and show you where they buy it from so you know its safe and fresh.

    What to do for fun

Here at Central we have a place called the SAC, where they have pool tables, a bowling alley, a swimming pool, ping pong, and of course somewhere to workout. If a gym doesn't suit your fancy our campus is pretty active and a lot of people enjoy long boarding, biking, or rollerblading. A lot people just enjoy hanging out in the lobby's of the dorms and watching TV as well in their spare time.

    Bang for the buck

I can't really find a school in Michigan (or anywhere really) that isn't incredibly over priced. But Central seems to better at giving away scholarships than most, so depending on how much your given I defiantly say its more than worth it. There are also lots of jobs on campus that work with you schedule if you need help in that way.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Sunday before finals begin at midnight all the students yell out their windows as loud as they can.

Great for these types of students

Great for any student that likes to get involved in smaller organizations and make friends. A smaller campus so you can get by without a car, you can walk into town without any trouble as well.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of intramural sports and they keeps you updated all throughout the year, whether its soccer, touch football, or floor hockey. They also have such a variety of clubs that I cannot begin to list them all, they have a Harry Potter club (with a quidditch team), several a cappella groups, a history club, science, and ect...

    Greek Life

I'm not myself involved in the any Fraternity or Sorority (yet), but I can tell you that Greek life plays a huge roll on Central's campus. Because most students enjoy being in a smaller communities a large portion of the student population is in a Fraternity or Sorority. You can't walk down a path without seeing at least ten people wearing their letters.

    Campus Safety

I walk around on campus often at night, (due to late night studying and concerts and ect...) but I never feel unsafe because of a system of lights, every few light poles they have a blue light where a student can call for help if needed. They also have safe rides, which is a free to anywhere on campus after 8pm.

Central Michigan University's campus is conveniently located and its simplistic layout makes it easy to get around without getting lost. The University offers numerous specialized programs and fields of study with the best available technologies. The faculty members are generous and committed to students' success.

    Tips for prospective students

As one of the notorious party schools of Michigan, there are always parties going on on or around campus. Do not get caught up in the party life. It is a waste of time and money. Central has one of the safest campuses in the country- however, that does not mean it is unnecessary to be cautious. Females should avoid walking alone at night, and all students should be cautious.

    Academic Rigor

Academically, Central is not bad. It is absolutely manageable if time is managed wisely. However, it is still harder than I expected.

    Dorm Life

They are a bit small, and some are old. However, there are newer dorm rooms that are very nice.

    Food and Dining

As far as the food on campus goes, the Down Under Cafe in the Bovee Center is great. Of all the residence hall's cafeterias, Fresh Foods is the best. There are also many great places to eat (and places that deliver) off campus.

    What to do for fun

There are numerous RSO's one can join, as well as sororities and fraternities. There is also the Student Activity Center (the SAC), at which students can work out, bowl, swim, and more. There are also numerous events on and off campus scheduled almost daily that are posted throughout campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A big event for CMU is the Central vs. Western game, as Western is Central's biggest rival.

Great for these types of students

All students- there are numerous programs and fields of study at Central.

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous RSO's one can join at Central.

    Greek Life

Greek life at Central is very active.

    Campus Safety

Central has one of the safest campuses in the country. However, one should always use caution regardless.

central michigan university has a wonderful atmosphere that gives off a very homey vibe. there are many highly accredited programs offered here as well. it's a relatively large campus but small enough that it's easy to get very involved and make many, many friends.

    Tips for prospective students

i believe you should tour the campus as many times as possible before attending in the fall. the more you're here the more comfortable you'll be. also, take as many ap classes as you can in high school, it will save you a lot of money.

    Academic Rigor

your freshman year will most likely contain up's, or undergraduate programs which won't have to do with your major. there are many study groups and there are math and writing centers right in your dorm as well as the library.

    Dorm Life

you will make life long friends very quickly. your floor becomes like your family and you spend a lot of time together. although your experience with residence life will be different depending on what part of campus you live, it's usually really fun. the only down side is that at least for me, it's hard to ever find a quiet spot to yourself.

    Food and Dining

the food isn't too bad. you'll love it at first and think it's the greatest thing but you'll eventually get tired of it. i cook mac n' cheese or soup in the kitchenettes on my floor when i want to escape the rfoc food for a little bit. another up side is that there's tons of restaurants in walking distance when you want something else.

    What to do for fun

of course, it's central, so there's parties. i guarantee you'll never have a problem finding somewhere to party on the weekends, (or weekdays for that matter). however, if going out isn't your thing, there's other things to do like the movies and such.

    Bang for the buck

i absolutely love central. the sports teams aren't the greatest, we aren't a big 10 school, and sometimes it seems pretty small, but i wouldn't want to go anywhere else.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

almost every dorm has their own haunted story. the midnight finals scream is probably the coolest thing i've ever witnessed. everyone screaming on the top of their lungs the sunday night before finals.

Great for these types of students

great for social students, smart students, very involved students, leaders, and athletes.

    Clubs and Activities

there are endless amounts of clubs and activities to be involved in. it seems overwhelming at first because there's so many things you can do, but everyone eventually finds their niches. anything you can think of there is a club for.

    Greek Life

greek life is huge here at cmu. there's tons of social sororities and fraternities as well as countless academic co-ed fraternities. you can't go anywhere without seeing someone wearing greek letters.

    Campus Safety

i feel safer at cmu then i ever did in my hometown. you go to several campus safety programs at the beginning of your freshman year and they tell you all about it. the state police, cmu police, tribal police, and mt. pleasant police all watch over.

    Tips for prospective students

when you enroll try not to room with people you already know because half the experience is meeting new people and even getting along with different types. this isn't high school anymore, no slacking because no one waits for you to catch up. talk with counselors if you have any questions, that's what they are there for.

    Academic Rigor

you definitely have to study! there are no easy classes but you do learn. there are many different classes to choose from.

    Food and Dining

there are a lot of different foods to choose from with a lot of variety. unfortunately the food is what it is but it makes home cooked meals taste like heaven. the school has quite a lot of meal plans to choose from to suit your needs.

    What to do for fun

there is always something going on from sporting events to parties. there are a variety of fraternities and sororities to pick from. central has a great sports complex with swimming, tennis, weight room, basketball, bowling, etc.

central michigan university has an exceptional atmosphere that lends itself not only to obtaining the best grades you can get, but also making new friends, and learning how to support yourself as you become an adult. the teachers and faculty are friendly, willing to help you whenever and in whichever way they can, and the students are just as welcoming. there are a myriad of activities put on throughout the year to help the students adjust to living on their own, as well as lend to the amazing, fun atmosphere of cmu.

    Tips for prospective students

get your application in soon, because spots fill up fast for central. get involved in as much as you can as soon as you can: it's the best way to make long-lasting friendships, and with a ton of clubs, sports teams, greek fraternities and sororities, there's bound to be at least one group you can join, and if there isn't, you can always make one yourself!

    Academic Rigor

the professors expect a lot out of you, and the university itself has quite a few requirements to be fullfilled before you graduate in order to assure that you are a well-rounded student, but as long as you don't procrastinate too much, you'll be absolutely fine.

    Dorm Life

living in the dorms is a fantastic way to meet new people, and learn more about yourself and how you deal with conflicts. it's an excellent learning experience, and recommended, although not required, for most incoming freshmen. dorm life is filled with chances to get involved in your community as well as in the world, and the ras are exceptionally well-trained and helpful, always ready to put aside what they're doing to help you.

    Food and Dining

the food is fantastic, with vegetarian options, health-conscious food, and great back home cooking. the menu varies from day to day, offering a mix between mediterranean, asian, southern-style cooking, italian, american, and hispanic food so that you'll never be bored with the food provided!

    What to do for fun

every weekend there's a new activity--whether it's siblings week, where you are encouraged to bring up your brothers or sisters and run around campus with various kid-friendly games to play, welcome weekend, where you learn about all the different student-led organizations, or up all night, an all-nighter available only to students of cmu completely free of charge! if any of these bore you, there are always sports games to go to, two clubs within walking distance of the school, and many different lounges open every evening.

    Campus Safety

cmu's campus is incredibly safe: it has roughly four different police squads available whenever needed, including cmu's own campus police. they also have an amazing program called safe rides which allows any two students, between the hours of 7 pm to 2 am, to receive a free ride from wherever they are on campus, to wherever they need to go on campus, rather than walking back in the dark.

central michigan university is a wonderful school with a beautiful campus. there are so many free services available on campus to assist you in every way possible. the school is just the right size as you walk to class you can get anywhere in fifteen minutes yet still big enough to meet thousands of new people.

    Tips for prospective students

tips i would have is to live on campus, it really does make all the difference. i do not mean live in a dorm with all your close friends but go in blind and meet new people. your whole perspective changes completely and it really gives you a different experience. also manage your time as many incoming freshman seem to have that problem now that it's there first time on their own.

    Academic Rigor

i haven't taken any classes that i have really struggled with or needed any help however i am only a freshman myself. i am taking all of my prerequisites and seeing what my options are. academic rigor really changes depending on what professors you have but overall central really does there best to make academics number one.

    Dorm Life

i absolutely love living in the dorms. central's dorms are extremely nice compared to all other schools i have visited. they all have their own bathrooms and a living room then bedrooms change according to which hall you live in. everyone is extremely friendly and even if you have a roommate you don't get along with they will switch you so that you can make the best of your stay.

    Food and Dining

the food is really good as there are so many different cafeterias and eateries on campus but after a while it starts to get tiring.

    What to do for fun

there is so much to do for fun. our workout facilities have everything from a swimming pool to racquetball to their own bowling ally. they also have numerous intramural teams that one can become a part of. if sports isn't exactly your thing there is always other activities going on from rso events to concerts to movie showings. in the cafeterias there is always a list of events for the week on each table and i can always find something that sounds fun to do!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

they have a haunted tour every halloween and tell you stories of all the haunted places on campus and the ghosts that roam the halls. there is also a circle on north campus that is said to give you bad luck if you walk through it during exam week, so don't do that!

    Clubs and Activities

cmu has so many different clubs it is unbelievable. they have clubs from supporting the squirrels to helping the hungry in honduras. i have found numerous clubs that i enjoy and became a part of a few of them.

    Greek Life

i do not know much about greek life at central but everyone i know in a sorority or fraternity absolutely loves it and has never said anything bad about it.

    Campus Safety

central's campus is extremely safe. we actually have a service called safe ride that you can call and they will pick you up or take you to anywhere on campus if you don't feel okay walking. (or if its too cold out) ;) they also have blue lights that you can press for help and no matter where you stand on campus you can always see one.

central is a melting pot, there are students from all walks of life, and classes of all shapes, sizes, and difficulties. central has excellent dorm life, and wonderful places to study. if you are looking to branch out more, central is good for that too, with its active night life, and division 1 sporting events.

    Tips for prospective students

deffinatly look around and dont make any college decision too quickly. be sure that you plan to finish your education at cmu before you apply, because once you start, cmu requires you to make decisions nearly a full year ahead of time, making it very difficult to change housing or colleges later on.

    Academic Rigor

like any college, it depends on what you put into it, if you want a heavy work load, take harder classes, for a lighter workload, take lower level classes.

    What to do for fun

there are several bars, a club, and several parties every night, in addition, there are division 1 sporting events on weekends, and comedians and speakers put free shows on periodically.

Central Michigan University has the best professors for the Recreation Department! Everyone here is a family and the people really do care about your well being and future. This college has made me a better person through it's programs.

    Tips for prospective students

Never be afraid to ask for help if you are confused on an issue or subject. The stupid people were the ones who stayed quite and failed out of classes.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes could seem easier than others, but it depends on what academic strengths you have personally. Don't skip classes and stay on top of your assignments and studying for exams and you'll be fine.

    Dorm Life

Keep a positive attitude about your living arrangements, and you'll find when you meet your roommates, 9 times out of 10 you'll like them. DO make sure you set rules and guidelines down that everyone has to follow. That way there will be less frustration with people later, and when something happens you don't like TALK about it.

    Food and Dining

I thought the food was pretty good. There are multiple food stations you can go to, so if you don't find something you like you can go elsewhere. The staff was very nice and helpful even!

    What to do for fun

If living in the dorms: have a nerf gun fight with your entire hall! If living in the apartments: board game nights are always a blast! There's always a free event being held too, so just look around you because there is ALWAYS something fun to do!

    Clubs and Activities

The Central Michigan Marching Band is one BIG family! The drumline which I was apart of for 3 years is such a close family. It was hard work, but completely worth it because we were what kept the crowd cheering during the football games!

    Campus Safety

Every night there are two retired police cars that are now called the Safe Ride vehicles. Their job is to pick up students at night who need to get around campus but feel unsafe to walk by themselves. It's free and the staff is very helpful!

Central Michigan is a university known for its partying in the past however they are under rated for their academic success. recently there has been a dispute between some of the faculty and their wages but this has not affected their teaching in anyway. i currently attend Central Michigan university and i can vouch for their continuing effort to advance student success there are many great teachers that take the time to get to know their students and help appropriately help them as best they can, whether it's additional office hours or assisting the students in getting free tutors that the university provides. Central Michigan goes far beyond my expectations by doing as much as they can for student success!

    Am enjoying being here

Central Michigan is a fun, pretty, and large university and it is the only university that i know of, where freshman can bring their cars also all students get into the sporting events for free. mount pleasant has a night club within walking distance of campus, a nice well groomed disc-golf course that is free, a huge city park that includes the chip river and nature trails and a close knit community that come and enjoy the university's fitness center that may be the best in the state for college students. the university has student activities most nights during the week as well as weekends, overall it is a nice place for a good education and a good time.

    Bang for the buck

Central Michigan isn't the cheapest university, but for the size of this growing university and the education it provides i must say that it is worth the money. it is far less expensive that liberal arts schools and big universities such as the university of Michigan and Michigan state but is still a reputable university where a degree from here will help anybody find a job in the work place. there is no need for a bus pass because it takes 20 minutes to walk across campus and the state of the art fitness center that is available to all students for free is exceptional. Central Michigan costs about $16,000 a year to live on campus and being a full time student. as i think you will find this is a reasonable price for such a university

    Tips for prospective students

Central Michigan University is a great university for those looking to become teachers. also their physician assistant program is currently rated number 4 in the country with a 100 percent placement rate after students pass the certification test.

I was reluctant to attend CMU at first, but the longer I'm here the more I enjoy the atmosphere of Mt. Pleasant. It i a small town, but people are friendly and I'm getting an excellent education.

    Bang for the buck

Not as over-priced as Illinois universities, but college is still expensive no matter how you look at it.

    Tips for prospective students

You have to make an effort if you want to meet friends. Be social, especially the first few weeks. You won't meet anyone if you just sit in your dorm room every night. Be positive and your experience will reflect that.

Great for these types of students

Any type of student can fit into CMU's fairly large student body, but don't try to change yourself. If you like to study but also have a good time, pick a quieter dorm like Larzelere or Merril. If you like a louder scene, live in the Towers. There are plenty of clubs as well, so follow your interests and you will fit in just fine.

The best thing about attending college is there is a bigger array of subjects and courses you can take. No matter what you do, you do it in a professional manner. Attending college teaches you the skills that best prepare you for you degree and life skills. In and out of the classroom.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the teachers and the fact that no matter where I go on campus there's easy access to EVERYTHING. Plus the walks to building to building are not all that bad. Look at it this way, you can plus your music in and get some exercise while you filter your thoughts or review material for your next class.

    Bang for the buck

The great thing about college is you have options. I commute an hour plus away so I don't have to pay for room and board. However if you are a person that wants to live on campus cool, more power to you! The point is YOU HAVE OPTIONS! It's great!

    Tips for prospective students

DO AS MANY SCHOLARSHIPS AS POSSIBLE, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! I'd like to also add that choose your college wisely, you not only have to factor in the cost of attending college, you have to factor in is it a safe environment for me, does this college provide all the classes I need for my career goals, will this college be the smart choice to start off with or should I attend a community college and save some money?! Whatever your desire make sure you have a solid plan and a plan b or plan c. Like I said before there are lots of options so no matter what you choose eventually these options will land you where you want to be.

Great for these types of students

If you like to have small class size classes CMU is right for you, if you like lecture size class rooms CMU is right for you. Either way CMU provides the perfect size class rooms for anyone looking for these types of classes. If you like to party CMU is right for you. If you would like to attend a college ranked in the top 5 in Michigan CMU is great for you. If you would like to live in a dorm and meet new people CMU is great for you. If you like teachers who are professionals in their fields CMU is right for you.

It's a great school with a great campus. I love the faculty, there's more than enough support, and I don't think I'll ever want to leave.

There is a club for EVERYTHING. I really like dorm life because I get to live with people that are my age (17-21) instead of in a neighborhood full of people like my parents.

    Bang for the buck

CMU's professors are trying to minimize the tuition increase per credit hour, so that students can still afford to attend.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're going into the dorms, try to get to know your roommates a little bit. It's easier living with people when you're on the same page.

Don't be afraid to talk to an academic advisor or to get personal counseling. Sometimes it's nice to have someone to talk to that will just listen.

Great for these types of students

All types of students go to Central. Odds are there are enough people like you that you'll feel welcome, but not enough that you'll feel unimportant.

The class sizes are not extremely large. Therefore, professors are willing to work with you one-on-one and get to know you. I am able to get help with anything I am struggling with fairly easily. Also, Central requires students to take diversity classes which make you a well-rounded individual.

    Am enjoying being here

Central is a mid-sized school that provides students with the college experience. Everything is in walking distance. The college is expanding everyday with updating old buildings, building new buildings and keeping up with technology. The culture is very diverse with students from all over the world. I really have enjoyed my first 3 years at CMU and look forward to another good year.

    Bang for the buck

CMU is a great school with great professors. Students get a very good education here and can take advantage of so many activities on campus. Central was one of the only schools to raise their tuition around 6% compared to a majority of other Michigan schools who raised their tuition around 12% this year due to government policies. I believe CMU is a great bang for your buck.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of many on campus programs, clubs and events.

Great for these types of students

CMU has many excellent majors. The College of Business is one of the best in the state. For health majors, a new medical college will be opening in the near future.

I am a student-athlete at CMU, but the main reason I chose Central Michigan was for their strong reputation in academics. I knew what I was geting when I decided to attend CMU. Their Business Administration Program is second in the state and is ranked high amongst other schools in the Midwest. The Business Administration has a strong tradition and they want to uphold the high standards that has been set by successful alumni that hav been one, ten, and even fifty years removed from attending CMU. You get started right away with Business classes that will help you be well prepared from the Business School and will help you succeed in the 400 and 500 levels classes later on in your collegiate career. The workload can be a little challenging, but it is certainly not overwhelming. The professors are very knowledgeable, but also very personable and social. They love to see students visiting them during office hours and showing an interest in their field of study. They are very helpful with all of your assignments and studying and most are fairly easy to get a hold of. They want the best for you & that is to succeed and gain your degree on-time. Networking is very crucial in today's society, and in just one year, I have been able to establish a solid network with very successful people that have my best interest at heart and are willing to go out of their way to help me gain more opportunities of landing a job before I even graduate. I have learned so much in just one year at Central Michigan and I am so anxious to go back in the fall and start again.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely enjoy it at CMU! The second main factor I chose CMU was the atmosphere. I enjoy attending a school that's not too big and not too small. To walk from one side of the campus to the other takes about 10-15 minutes (weather permitting) and getting to class isn't a hassle. I use a bike a lot and it drops the time of my commute by a lot. There are great people here as well. I have met so many outstanding young men & women at CMU that some of which I know will be apart of my life long after four years. I can BE YOURSELF and not be afraid of what others may think or say of you because they're many more on campus just like you that you can reach out to & connect with. There are many things to do off-campus as well, so you won't have to worry about being bored a lot.

    Bang for the buck

Central Michigan is a bang for the buck. The tuition is under $10,000 and you will soon find out that you will get your money's worth, but that's only if you fully tap into all of the resources available to you on campus like the 4-floor library, Career Services Center for helping construct your resumes, do Mock Interviews, etc., SI tutors on campus, Math & Writing Centers, and Student Activity Center for the pool, basketball, weight room, bowling, aerobics, and so much more.

    Tips for prospective students

When prospective students ask me about college, I always tell them it is what you make of it. You can choose to sit around, go to class, and not do anything on campus, or you can be involved, enjoy your experiences, and make the most of your time there. My advice to any student (high school or transfer) who is highly considering Central Michigan is this: All college is is Time Management. I cannot emphasize enough. College is a lot easier and a lot less stressful when you manage your time well, from study time, to social events, etc. Use a planner!!!! I couldn't stand planners in high school, but it is so benefical at the next level. I literally put EVERYTHING in it, all of my class times, homework, practices, study time, you name it. Second, have your priorities in line. If the biggest deciding factor on a school for you is which has the better parties, you have no business at any university for that matter. There will be parties, and I have gone to a fair share of them, but you must be SMART in what you do at these parties and how often you go. Academics come first and it makes no sense in having your parents pay nearly $10,000 for you to lose your mind & act a fool. Third, get INVOLVED! You will find your experience on campus so much better when you get involved in volunteer activities, leadership roles, and extracurricular activities on and off campus. Last, but certainly not least, ENJOY your experience. Have fun in college because it's only 4 years, connect with the right people, and make the most of each day you're at school.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who want a school that has a strong reputation for its academics, an enjoyable and welcoming atmosphere on and off campus, and want to get connected with the right students and professors that have your best interest at heart and want to help you succeed long after you graduate. I really hope you choose CMU because you will not be disappointed. FIRE UP CHIPS!!

The classes I have been enrolled in as a freshman were beneficial to my degree of becoming an Elementary Teacher. The professors at Central Michigan University are very helpful to all of the students and are available at the most convenient times.

    Am enjoying being here

Central Michigan University was the PERFECT college for me. The advisory for the Education program were really helpful to keep me on the right track to success. All of the students were friendly and outgoing.

    Bang for the buck

The meal plan and dorm life is very well budgeted.

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tip for prospective students is to get involved in any clubs or residential colleges that specialize in their major or minors. Getting involved around the campus will not only allow students to make new friends, but it will help them get more involved in their own interests.

Great for these types of students

This school is a perfect match for students who are looking into careers with Education and Human Resources. Central Michigan University is also a school for hard working individuals who want to excel in school and become successful in life.

After speaking with advisors and multiple professors, I can certainly say Central offers a top notch education. The classes offered exceptional variety and the professors teaching them were the best in their fields. I learned an incredible amount of note-worthy knowledge from my professors. I know I will use almost everything I learned in my future field. They were always willing to help as were my advisors.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy every aspect of my time at Central. Even though I went in blind, my roommates were amazing. I'm even rooming with them again next year. I instantly became friends with the people on my floor and in the dorm Sweeney. There was such an incredible sense of community. The classes were fantastic, and I'm incredibly happy with the grades I received. There was always so much to do on and off campus like concerts, movie showings, club meetings, forum discussions, inexpensive dinners, and outdoor activities. The atmosphere is amazing. Although the campus contains 20,000 students, it is incredibly small and compact. There is big campus opportunities with a small campus feel. It is really so much more than I could have expected.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to private universities, Central is a steal. It costs roughly $20,000 a year, although it depends on the amount of credits taken. I had 17 credits and the unlimited meal plan and it was $20,000. Central offers many scholarships to help cover the cost of school. For instance, if you try for the Centralis Scholarship, no matter what, you will get some sort of scholarship out of it. I definitely believe the cost per credit hour is worth-while. Central has some of the best rooms in Michigan, with two bedrooms, a sitting room, and a bathroom, as well as great cafeterias.

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tips for prospective students would be too research each college extremely well even before you visit. I'd also advise visiting numerous types of colleges. Even though you may think a small, private university is the type for you, you may fall in love with a large school like Michigan State. Although I only visited four, I wish I would have visited triple that. However, once I chose Central, I visited multiple times. I got my bearings even before orientation. I learned about the town and I stayed up to date with what was happening at Central before I even attended the school. I believe it helped for a better transition.

Great for these types of students

Central is a great place for students who are outgoing and like to be involved.

The lecture halls are big but that does not mean you do not learn a lot. In the lecture halls you get to work with other students and contrary to popular belief the teachers will help you if you ask or email. All teachers have office hours and most are willing to meet with you at other times if needed. In the more specialized classes the teachers really know what they are talking about and are their to help you grasp the meanings of your studies. Although some teachers may not fit your learning style, I can honestly say there are not unqualified teachers at Central Michigan University.

    Am enjoying being here

I am absolutely in love with the campus. There are free fitness classes everyday of the week in the residence halls and there are gyms that you can use with your id free of charge. The football games and basketball games are so much fun and free with your school id. The campus and city does a great job at keeping things low cost for students such as food, coffee and bowling. People on campus are really friendly and high energy.

    Bang for the buck

In terms of getting what you want for your money, college is expensive no matter how you look at it but Central does a great job at keeping the cost low and offering a lot of free things. When I first got on campus I was showered with free t-shirts, and about a million things. We also got a lot of coupons that made food and tanning and other treats affordable. The dining halls seem like a lot of money but there are so many choices that you can get your money's worth. Although it seems like a lot of money at first you get to meet a lot of people, a great education, and with your school id you get free games and fitness

    Tips for prospective students

Although everyone knows its a big party school do not get to caught up in all that. Going out every weekend and during the week will affect your schooling and grades will drop. You are paying for your education and you are now old enough to make your own decisions, teachers will not care if your in class or not but your grades will reflect what you do. Many first year students at Central drop out or fail classes due to excessive partying, it's okay to go have fun but keep in mind your their to get an education first.

Great for these types of students

Going away to college may not be for everyone but Central is a great place for many types of people. It is big enough that everyone doesn't know everyone yet small enough that people who hate big cities will not get overwhelmed. Central is a great place for people who love being center of attention at parties and can are outgoing yet it is also a place for people who like small gatherings with only a couple close friends. At Central, a student can find a place to fit in.

I've learned so much since my first year at CMU. They have a great variety of classes and some really stellar professors that will change your life. Being so close to the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe also provides a great deal of extracurricular learning. You have the opportunity to learn about the tribe and the relation between us.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the atmosphere; it's the type of place where people hold doors for each other. Mount Pleasant may not seem like the most happening of towns, but it has some real gems.

Also, there's nothing like the feeling of the Chippewa Spirit echoing in Kelly/Shorts Stadium, McGuirk Area, Plachta Auditorium, or anywhere on campus flooded with maroon and gold.
Seriously, I was a part of the Dan LeFevour era of football; when things really get moving, it's fantastic!

    Bang for the buck

You get a great education for less money than other schools. It is a little pricey, but what college isn't?

    Tips for prospective students

Go in remembering that you're there for an education; you're a student first. If you lose sight of that, you'll have wasted time and money (or your parents money).

Great for these types of students

Students that prefer a less tense atmosphere will love it. You'll find different communities on campus to fit into. Each quadrant of campus has its own community with its own vibe and there is an endless number of RSOs to be a part of.

There really is a place for everyone at CMU, you've just got to find it - it's not hard.

When it comes to learning, Central offers many different types of classes for many different types of majors. They are the only college in Michigan to offer the Leadership Minor. So, even if you need to get those general education and major classes done, you can still take classes that will interest you and will be fun.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many different clubs, sports, and organizations to become a part of at Central. There is always something going on and it is always an interesting day on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Not only are the classes good, and the organizations to join plentiful, you have the opportunity to have the whole big college experience in a small town setting. So, even when you think you know campus and all of its services, there is still more to discover. I've been there for 2 years and I am still learning about the campus. Also, this is the only campus I have visited that has the community feel to it. Everyone is very welcoming and understanding, and willing to help if needed.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are thinking about Central, come to the college, schedule a tour. You will be given a tour by one of the students themselves and they will give you their opinion on the school. Also, if you don't want to take a tour, talk to a random student and ask them questions. Anyone will answer your questions. Look into the Majors you are interested in and all of the organizations you can get involved in.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for all students of any background, ethnicity, race, etc. There are resources for everyone and there is always a friend there to help.

    Did learn a lot

Great place to learn whether your classes are online or in a normal classroom setting.

    Did enjoy being here

Unfortunately most of my classes were online but I did get a chance to visit the campus, and if it is at all possible, any student considering on attending this awesome institution should make a visit to the campus.

    Bang for the buck

It is a little pricey but I did like the fact that the 7 year guarantee about tuition. You need to look into this because I have yet to see a college do anything like this to help out the students.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay focused on what your goal is and do not waiver from that goal.

Great for these types of students

Especially great for adult learners who are also holding down a full time job. Great for military students as well.

    Am learning a lot

Central has a large variety of majors and offers a variety of classes taught by great professors. All of the classes I have taken so far have been completely worth while, interesting, and well taught. Two that stand out in my mind are Musics of the World and Religions of the World, but a list of all the classes you can take can be found on the academic bulletin under course descriptions (https://bulletins.cmich.edu/). The class sizes are small enough that most professors learn their students' names but large enough that the atmosphere is not too intense. The courses are challenging but realistically so and professors are extremely approachable and helpful when students encounter difficulties. Many classes can also be tested out of and Central accepts 3 scores from all A.P. tests (the tests accepted and credits A.P. scores transfer to can be found on CMU's website). The C.L.E.P. tests and A.P. acceptances from Central make me feel that my previous academic efforts are appreciated instead of making me feel, that because I did not take those classes at Central, my hard work and efforts are not worthy of being recognized.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many things to do on and off of Central's campus. Central has a recognized Student Activity Center (the SAC) that has weight rooms, fitness equipment, a pool, 2 saunas, a huge hot tub, racquetball, basket ball, volleyball and walleyball courts available to be reserved until midnight. The SAC often has many events including a movie in the pool where a movie is shown (most recently Inception) in the pool on a huge screen and students watch it in tubes. Access to the SAC is free to all students and it is open from 7-midnight. There is also intramural sports that students can participate in throughout the year with seasons lasting about 5 weeks each. CMU just recently opened the newest addition to campus, the event center. The event center hosts many sport competitions and recently hosted Ke$ha in February. The event center will be the place for many more speakers, comedians, groups, and artists that students can go see. The residential life at Central is amazing with extremely spacious dorm rooms (some of the biggest in the state, if not the Nation) and GREAT food in 4 different residential restaurants. There are also convenience stores with food like Bosco sticks and personal pizzas that are open until 2 a.m. Though Mt. Pleasant is not downtown Ann Arbor or East Lansing, there are many things to do around the city including going to The Soaring Eagle Casino which gives players $20 on their birthdays (not many college campuses have a casino). Mt. Pleasant has clubs, a movie theater, bowling alleys, shops, and many events on Central's campus. Mount Pleasant is big enough that you can keep yourself occupied but not so big that you will become distracted from school.

    Bang for the buck

Central absolutely delivers the most bang for the buck I have ever seen in a school. It is easy to meet many kinds of people and to stay in contact with them because of Central's reasonable size. There are so many pleasant surprises around campus. All students get in free to ALL athletic events (including home football games) with their student I.D. Access to the SAC, one of the nicest activity centers in all of Michigan, is free to all students and so is tutoring services and SafeRides, a service that takes you anywhere you want to go on campus from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. The cafeterias are absolutely beautiful and offer a very large variety of great food everyday, always with multiple choices and the dorms are great. There are so many events and RSOs to get involved in and to meet new people through. Student employment is relatively easy to find as students work in the cafeteria, library, buildings, stores and restaurants located all around campus. There is always an event going on and Central keeps its students well informed through chalk on the sidewalk, flyers, emails, and ads. Such events include plays, athletic events, speakers, bands, and programs put on by Central. Most events are free, and for those that are not, they are almost never more than $5. Central is a school that actually cares about its students and allows them to attend their own sporting events and to use their own gym/ Student Activity Center without charging them.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the website for any questions you have about academic programs, campus life (like dorm rooms, cafeterias, and jobs), and anything else you can think of. The website (cmich.edu) is extremely easy to use. ABSOLUTELY take a campus tour, the tours offered at 10 11 and 12 include lunch inside one of four fabulous cafeterias on campus but tours run all week from 10 to 2. The campus ambassadors (tour guides) are extremely helpful and are some of the most involved and knowledgeable students on campus. Ask questions you will get answers! Central's campus is not one that you hear much about since it is not a top ten school, but the tour is almost always guaranteed to impress as you get to see almost everything you could want on campus (including the awesome dorm rooms)!

Great for these types of students

Students who: want a campus that makes it easy to meet people and to keep in touch with them, do not want to deal with bus systems (CMU is a walking campus that takes 10mins tops to get anywhere on campus, freshmen can also have cars!), want great food in their meal plan, who want a friendly campus, want a month of winter break, want spacious dorm rooms, want a college they can be themselves at, want to get involved, want a realistically sized campus, and who want a real college experience are definitely Chippewa material at CMU!

I have learned a lot since I have come to Central Michigan University. All of the teachers are extremely into their teaching, and it makes the curriculum intriguing and fun.

    Am enjoying being here

The people are very friendly, and it is easy to get to know people around campus. There are numerous ways to get involved. It is nice to have a broad scope of opportunities.

    Bang for the buck

There are a lot of options to workout, learn, eat, participate in activities. The rooms are very spacious for the pay. It is refreshing to have a lot of ways to get involved, and it is well worth the money.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus to see if it feels right for you. If you have chosen your major take a tour of the facilities where your classes will be taken. If you get a chance, stop by the University Center and visit the student services. You can get an idea of the options a student is given at Central. After visiting different colleges you can choose one that is the right fit for you.

Great for these types of students

Central Michigan University is great for people who like to meet other people, and are fairly strict about their academics. It is a fantastic learning place, and located in a fun environment.

Being in the Honors Program, I enjoy that I can choose classes that are outside the norm and also challenge me intellectually. I feel that as long as you choose classes that you will enjoy, you will learn a lot. I especially enjoy that classes are interactive. I am not only learning from lectures but also by going on trips, participating in group discussions, and doing activities within the classroom.

    Am enjoying being here

I really love all the people here at Central. The friends and classmates in your hall will make you included and wanted. The halls come up with many programs for fun on the weekends. Although partying is present on any college campus, I find that it is still possible to find things to do on the weekends that do not involve going to parties. I love that the people here are very friendly, the professors get to know you as a person, and the food is decent.

    Bang for the buck

I am from out of state so my tuition is a little higher than some of my friends but from receiving scholarships from Central I am able to be here. The only way that I am able to be here is the out-of-state scholarship. This scholarship pays the difference between in and out of state tuition. The scholarship made it cheaper for me to come here than to stay in Illinois. Tuition though is not what sneaks up on you in costs. It is room and board that costs the most. So make sure you calculate what you will be paying before you decide to come here because there are some extra costs that are not as advertised. I think in general though, you get what you pay for.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say that if you were planning on going to Central to apply to the Honors Program. It is a great opportunity, you receive priority registration, and you can get into specialty classes. I also encourage prospective students to get involved right away. There are so many clubs and intramural sports to get involved with. Joining a club or sport team will help you meet people, gain connections for the future, and have fun.

Great for these types of students

Central is great for students who enjoy a small college feel with large school opportunities. It is not overwhelming for students from small towns nor boring for students from a large city like me. I think it is great for everyone and would strongly recommend it to others.

My first semester at Central was great. My favorite class was chemistry. The professors were extremely helpful and also were a lot of fun.

    Am enjoying being here

All of my professors were helpful and devoted to my education. For example, I was worried about an English assignment. I went to my teacher and after a few minutes I was feeling confident and encouraged.

    Bang for the buck

Central is not the cheapest college. However, many scholarships are available for incoming freshmen as well as transfer students.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to your professors as soon as possible. The longer you wait the harder it becomes. My advice would be to meet with all of your instructors at least once. This way you do not miss any opportunities available to you.

Great for these types of students

Central appeals to a wide range of students. It has many majors and should be able to accommodate almost anyone.

The professors here really do have a lot of enthusiasm for their field and it really helps in their instruction. This is especially true for their Honors classes and anything related to the Honors program, which I am currently enrolled in.

    Am enjoying being here

Overall, it is a good experience. It is a party school, though; there's no doubt about that. I know that most colleges have their share of parties, but I've personally accidentally parked next to piles of vomit on several occasions, and this campus is especially known for its parties. Yay academia?

    Bang for the buck

Not the cheapest school in Michigan, but certainly not the most expensive. Central offered me good scholarships that made the difference between attending it or a community college.

    Tips for prospective students

I would definitely consider attending Central, if only to enroll in a 4 year program and transfer to a graduate school.

Great for these types of students

If you want to get general classes out of the way without going to community college, CMU is for you. If you want to go to a college with a big college feel while still being in a small town (the student population of CMU is nearly equal to the resident population of Mt. Pleasant), this is definitely a good choice.

I am from a small town, so when I chose to attend CMU in the fall of 2010 I was nervous, but once I got there I knew that I chose the right school. I am learning a lot in all of my classes as well as other activities on campus that I can attend. CMU is a big campus, at least for me, with a lot of activities to do. There are lectures/ for every kind of thing you can imagine

    Am enjoying being here

I live on North Campus and I love living here. All of the RA's in my hall are nice and very helpful with everything and I have made all new friends in my hall.
Also, there is always something you can do to entertain you if you're bored. You could go to the SAC (student activity center) and workout, play basketball, swim in the pool or hot tub or take a sauna, play ping pong, play racket-ball, tennis, play pool, and at certain times there are activities like yoga and dance you can sign up to attend. During the day there are different things around campus you can attend.

    Tips for prospective students

Central is a sort of expensive school, so my tip would be to try to get as many scholarships as possible and one thing I have learned as a freshman is that you do not need the unlimited meal plan. With the unlimited meal plan you get 100 flex dollars, but if you get the 14 a week meal plan you get 200 flex dollars. You are able to use flex dollars for on campus stores.

Great for these types of students

Central is a good campus if you are a person who likes to be social.

The classes are all challenging and you learn new things each and every day. Also, just by living on campus and in dorms I learn new things with the programs that they offer. There is a very diverse variety of students which makes me learn about the many different cultures in our language.

    Am enjoying being here

I think Central is a very good college and they help make the transition to college very easy. Sometimes, I am homesickness but there are many people here to help you if you ever need to talk.

    Bang for the buck

There are many scholarships offered right on campus that are for academics. So if you have good grades then you may be eligible for these yearly scholarships that will help you pay for college.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest visiting campus to see if you really like it here. If this is the right fit for you then you will know if the minute you step on campus. Also, don't go home every weekend your very first year and try to get connected here as everyone is so welcoming during the first couple of weeks and you will make tons of new friends.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for people who want to be independent and on their own for the first year. Also, they have a really good education program and are building a new health professions building.

The time I have spent at Central has been worth everything in the world. I am taking courses in the field I want to work in once I graduate, and they are helping me to be a better student and journalist. No other school I have looked at in the past has such an acclaimed Journalism program, nor does any other school prepare me as well as Central does. Only being a freshmen, I am confident that once I graduate from CMU I will have no problem in finding my future job and succeeding in everything I do.

    Am enjoying being here

If you're a typical freshmen student like me, I was terrified of leaving home. I loved my friends and family a lot and being away from home was going to be a new experience I wasn't used to. However, taking tours of the campus before deciding I wanted to be here helped me better understand my surroundings and get used to where everything is at. Living in the dorms was also a new experience, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. The people and friends that I have met and made makes me feel like I belong here and I enjoy being here. There are so many things to do on and off campus and volunteering is a simple task just to get involved. Next year I'm going to be involved in so much other things; sorority, leadership safari, and more, and to me being at Central feels like I'm home and I truly feel like I belong.

    Bang for the buck

Central is expensive, no doubt about that. But I believe you truly get the education you deserve for the money you spend on it. No one's going to say 'don't come here, you can't afford it' because honestly that's not true. I have loans and scholarships that are helping me pay for school and it's working just fine for me. I wouldn't go to another school if it were cheaper because I know that I wouldn't get the same amount of education for the same price.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be scared if you don't know what you want to major in. There are events that can help you figure that out and advisers as well. Trying different courses also help you to figure out what you want to major in so experience a few. Also, don't be afraid to get involved and volunteer. You'll meet so many new and exciting people and have a lot of fun doing it at the same time. My one personal suggestion is to live in the dorms. You'll become great friends with your roommates and you'll get involved with your floor activities and just meet an assortment of people.

Central is not the most expensive school in Michigan, but it is up there. With this being said, I get no financial help from my parents and am still able to get everything paid for. It is definitly worth it!

    Tips for prospective students

Meet as many new people as possible! Don't be scared to talk to the people in your classes. Try to meet everyone in your hall. These people will become some of your best friends. Also, get involved with as many different activites as possible. If you will be an incoming freshman, do leadership safari! Tips for prospective students

Central Michigan University is really a great school. It offers a lot of different programs and classes that other schools don't offer. All of my professors and advisers have been exceptionally helpful in helping guide me to my career pathway. The campus is slightly smaller which is an excellent thing! It's never too far between classes, and is very easy to navigate through. The dorms are in very good shape, and help you meet so many great people. Some things I would recommend to future students would be to see your adviser constantly! There are a lot of classes that count for more than one requirement, that can save a lot of money and time; your advisers can point these out! My second recommendation would be to get a planner and use it often! Write down every assignment, highlight upcoming tests and due dates, and write down just simple every day tasks. It really helps to keep you on top, and to make sure you never fall behind. My last suggestion would be to not procrastinate. I find that even right after class, I am more apt to completing my homework, than if I wait until later to do it. Other than that, doing projects and studying at an early date, helps me be very prepared, and keeps my GPA up!

Do well on your ACT's and don't fret too much. I didn't do splendidly in my High School, but I got accepted to Central and I managed to turn my study habits around. Don't ever let your grades deter you from applying, you always have a chance.

Great for these types of students

People that like to volunteer. People that like to have a class discussion rather than having Professors spit information at you. Anyone looking for a cultural diverse campus with a friendly spirit.

Although it is located in a small, nearly vacant, farm town, Central Michigan University has a great campus. With so many programs offered, there are many students who attend CMU, and therefore, uncountable chances to meet numerous new and exciting people. There are also many events weekly held both on and off campus for continuous entertainment.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not start your college career at CMU with the attitude that, it is not an Ivy League school, therefore, it should not be hard, or, you should not have to put fourth much effort. It may not be Harvard, but it is still college- the foundation for the rest of your life. Take every academic moment seriously and contribute all your possible efforts. It is extremely easy to get distracted at school since you are away from your parents and (in most circumstances) living on your own for the first time. It is easy to get lazy, sleep whenever you desire, skip class, and lastly- get involved in CMU's infamous party life. Do not let this happen. Many freshman mess up their first semester so badly that they either are not eligible to return for the spring semester, or they have to step things up to the extreme for the spring semester.

    Academic Rigor

Do not start your college career at CMU with the attitude that, it is not an Ivy League school, therefore, it should not be hard, or, you should not have to put fourth much effort. It may not be Harvard, but it is still college- the foundation for the rest of your life. Take every academic moment seriously and contribute all your possible efforts. You can only retake a class twice (for a total of three times). And if it is a class for your major, if you fail a class three times, you are kicked out of the major.

    Dorm Life

The traditional freshman-style rooms are quite small; however, this is one way to get to know your roommates. But there are more room choices from which to choose that allow more room and overall comfort.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is not the greatest- you grow tired of eating it everyday. However, the Bovee Center has a cafe downstairs that has really good food- and you can use your flex dollars to pay. Also, the food off campus is good- but you obviously can not use flex dollars or your meal plan to pay for it. Most places off campus are open and deliver quite late (some places 3am-4am). And for those places that do not deliver, there is a service you can use to get your food delivered- a sort of universal delivery guy.

    What to do for fun

There are all sorts of events and activities both on and off campus scheduled weekly. One event that attracts a large student audience is the Drag Show- one of the events during Pride Week. Another big event, the second largest event (measured by attendance) on campus is the student-run/produced fashion show Threads. These are two events you do not want to miss.

    Bang for the buck

It is expensive, but all colleges are expensive.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Central vs. Western game is a huge event since Western is Central's biggest rival.

Great for these types of students

Central is is great school for all types of students because there is such a wide variety of programs one can study, and degrees one can obtain.

    Clubs and Activities

    Greek Life

The Greek Life at CMU is an active one. If you are looking to join a fraternity or sorority, look during Greek Week.

    Campus Safety

CMU has one of the safest campuses in the United States. However, everyone should still use caution on campus- especially at night and when traveling alone.

A great academic environment with helpful faculty. Defiantly not the big party school everyone portrays it as. They do need to increase campus size for the expanding student body.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay in the dorms as a freshmen, it is a great experience that will never be forgotten. Also, go in to CMU with your major already decided, changing it along the way can set you back.

    Academic Rigor

This school is not that academically demanding, if you are looking for a real challenge I would suggest a more prestigious university.

    Dorm Life

My best memories of Central are from the dorms!

    Food and Dining

Excellent food and dining, friends from other university complemented me on how nice Centrals food and cafeteria environment really was.

    What to do for fun

Where do i begin; the SAC, Malt Shoppe, local skate park, Main st, your dorm hallway, the possibilities are endless.

    Bang for the buck

Central is a bit pricey, they nickle and dime you for a lot of silly things.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Anspach hall, the basement is haunted!

Great for these types of students

Friendly and outgoing but also academically determined.

    Clubs and Activities

I was never personally in a club but i can tell you they literally have a club for EVERYTHING.

    Greek Life

Expanding every year, i was involved in greek life and it is quite fun. Everyone gets along and there are always new friends to meet.

    Campus Safety

I have only heard stories of violence on campus but never witnessed anything.

Central Michigan is a university full of great opportunities. They have an excellent assortment of programs to choose from. They also have tons of excellent professors to help better prepare students for their futures.

    Tips for prospective students

To be a prospective student get involved in activities around campus and make sure to study, study, study.

    Academic Rigor

When it comes to grades it's all about the professor. The better your professor the better your grades will be.

    Dorm Life

The quality of dorm life depends on what dorm you live in.

    Food and Dining

Just like dorm life, food also depends on where you live on campus. Some cafes on campus are pretty good while others are just gross.

    What to do for fun

For fun here at Central Michigan, I either hang out with friends or go to the Student Activity Center to play some basketball

    Bang for the buck

    Academic Rigor

Of course, I wouldn't know too much about this but, I hear from friends going to Central that some classes are rather hard. I also hear that they like to do lots of hands-on type of work and believe that getting you in your job environment makes you learn best.

    Dorm Life

I'm not too excited about having three other roommates but, everyone's gotta be a freshman sometime.

Central Michigan University is a very friendly campus. The safe environment provides a great place for academic success. The beautiful, clean campus is the perfect size for students who are interested getting involved while experiencing the 'big college' feel.

    Tips for prospective students

Look at all of the great opportunities Central Michigan has to offer. The campus is the perfect size and the positive people combined create the best college feel. The staff is great and the programs offered are rigorous.

    Academic Rigor

The programs at Central Michigan University are rigorous, but success is achievable. Just like anything, it takes hard work. But with the helpfulness of the professors and the student success options offered, Central Michigan University is the perfect place for a student wishing to further their knowledge in whatever field they choose.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life at Central Michigan University is great. I have had the opportunity to live in two very different style dorms. The four person in one bedroom was a little bit challenging but taught me how to live with others. The one person to a bedroom was much easier to deal with and the quality was awesome! They are well-kept and there are man programs offered to get involved with the residents around you.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is good. There is a great variety that caters to every type of person. For example, I have a food allergy, and they worked with me to create meals that would work for me. The dining halls have a nice set up that make students feel at home.

    What to do for fun

There are many organizations at Central Michigan University. There are also a variety of athletic programs. I am involved with the Advertising Club, Women's Club Ice Hockey, take fitness classes at the Student Activity Center, did leadership safari, and I work at the school newspaper. There are always friendly people around willing to make new friends and do whatever interests them. There is literally something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

Introverted students who are wishing to expand their personality as well as extroverted students who are wishing to expand their leadership skills.

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe on campus. There are blue lights located around campus to notify police if there is any suspicious activity. I like how the campus police are located right on campus as well. Safe Rides is one of the best services they provide by giving students free on-campus rides while it is dark out.

Central Michigan University is the perfect college to attend if you want small class sizes but the big campus feel. The professors have the opportunity to chat face to face with you and provide extra guidance. Central also has numerous resources to help you succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Set up a meeting with your academic ad-visor as soon as possible. Once your major is declared, create a academic plan. Also don't get wrapped up in the college life! Central is known as a party school and there will be many opportunities to party but your academics should come first. I lock myself in my room each night until my homework is done.

    Academic Rigor

The professors expect the best from each student. There aren't many situations where a professor with 'cut you some slack' on that assignment you forgot to turn in. Be prepared to have homework on the weekends and some late night study periods.

    Dorm Life

Most students tend to keep their doors open to allow the opportunity to meet new people. However, this can be very annoying because a closed door just causes people to knock on the door. Most of the dorms are much more roomy then the ones I have experienced at Michigan State University and Western Michigan University.

    Food and Dining

Mount Pleasant has a great array of restaurants! Many of these restaurants are within walking distance of campus. There are also many grocery stores within walking distance of campus. As for on campus, each dorm building has its own cafeteria and each one has great food. Personally, I like to eat at the Towers and grab a cup of coffee at the library.

    What to do for fun

Everyone in Mount Pleasant jokes about going to the Wayside. The Wayside is a night club that is attached to a bar. The Wayside is an experience that everyone must have. In the warm months be sure to take advantage of the Chippewa River! Many students get together to go tubing down the river and cook out at night.

    Bang for the buck

At the beginning of the semester be sure to stop by the Student Book Store on campus. The book store has coupon booklets for different restaurants and some of the shops around campus. These booklets can save you a lot of money throughout the year!

There have been a lot of problems with the administration and faculty in the past year as well as unfortunate circumstances within athletics. I don't always feel the administration has the right purpose in some of their actions as far as putting the students first. However, I really like the campus and feel my program is very successful and educational.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus for at least a year as I feel I missed out on making a lot of friends living at home. Try to become involved in activities or groups you are interested and don't be afraid to try new activities as well. Don't get too caught up in the college party scene and remember you are at college to receive a rewarding education. You can have fun but don't go overboard.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are easy but for the most part after your first year you do have to put in time and effort to finish work on time and do well on exams. Some programs are much harder than others but if you find something you enjoy you need to stick with it.

    Dorm Life

Some of the dorms are better than others as far as arrangement and space. There are people to help you on each floor and you can go to them or the Hall Director if you have issues. The maintenance is pretty quick to fix problems as well.

    Food and Dining

I feel the choices for meals are pretty great but I did not have to eat on campus everyday. Some students say the dorm food becomes old after awhile but there are many other choices around campus and in the academic buildings so it is always convenient.

    What to do for fun

The Student Activity Center is right across the road and has so many activities such as group fitness classes, areas to play most sports, and exercise machines. There is a movie theater in town, multiple bars, a couple dance clubs, numerous restaurants, a new water park, a casino, and a few parks.

    Bang for the buck

Sometimes I feel the room and board rates are a little high as you can get an apartment for much cheaper. Tuition is pretty high as well but is everywhere.

    Greek Life

There are many fraternities and sororities you can join including some that are academic.

    Campus Safety

Central is an amazing school because of the atmosphere, the people, and the opportunities. Both the staff and students are extremely kind an approachable making it a very open and friendly place to be. Also, there are so many things to get involved in and participate in that you will never be bored and can always find a place to feel accepted.

    Tips for prospective students

When you choosing your classes, pick something that not only fulfills your requirements but also interests you. It is easier to concentrate on a subject that you find entertaining and will actually want to go to class to listen to. Also, don't be afraid to talk to your professors because they are actually very understanding and willing to help.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty of the classes depends on what you take and how many classes you take. Just make sure you pay attention to what you are signing up for and that you can handle it. Don't take organic chemistry, zoology, and molecular physics all at the same time.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorm is very entertaining and also gives you resources that you can use to pass your classes. There is always something going on that is fun or someone to talk to. Plus, the staff is always willing to help you with your problems, whether they are academic or personal.

    Food and Dining

Despite your what you are thinking, the food is actually pretty good. There is a large variety in the dining halls so you can always find something good and its all you can eat. Then, if you are pulling an all nighter and need some reinforcements, the markets around campus are open until 2 am and filled with plenty of caffeine and junk food.

    What to do for fun

There is always something to do on campus. There are plenty of organizations to get involved in and always an event to entertain you. If you can find something on campus that interests you, Mount Pleasant is a great town filled with places to go in your free time.

    Bang for the buck

The college really is worth it. It is actually one of the cheaper colleges in the state but also one of the more accredited. It is worth it to get that type of experience.

    Clubs and Activities

    Campus Safety

Central is one of the safest campuses in the country. The campus police really know how to do their job. Plus, there are emergency phones posted along campus and a safe ride program that sends a car to pick you up and drive you anywhere on campus for free at night.

I absolutely love the atmosphere here, It's a big school but at the same time has a small town feel. Unlike other schools, there are always many classes offered and there's not that much problem trying to get into a class. Most people here are extremely nice and will always try to work with you if there is ever any problem.

    Tips for prospective students

Have an idea of what you want to major in. They work with you planning classes, but if you can take classes at a community college first or during high school so you have an idea and don't just waste money switching your major around.

    Academic Rigor

I fee like some professors are there just to teach and not help you succeed at all. Some professore have a class average of a 76% and think that it is awesome and don't work on anything to bring that average up. Other professors are very nice, escpecially in the hdf department, and look toward you succeeding in their class and in their future.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not what it looks like on movies at all. Honestly I can't wait to get out of the dorms. They are fun depending on what dorms you get into, but when you sign up for a roommate match, I don't think they match you very well. The space is very tiny here, but it is one of the bigger dorms compared to a lot of universities.

    Food and Dining

It seemed like the food was really good when I first got here, but they basically offer the same thing every week. There is really no variety and when they do offer variety, its always something that no one likes. I have gotten sick many times from eating in the cafeterias because of all the grease that is used to cook the food.

    What to do for fun

There is not much stuff to do here on the weekends except for parties, which some people are not interested in. Some can still go to the movies or bowling or something like that, but I feel the university clubs should have stuff going on that way it is easier to get involved and have fun.

    Bang for the buck

There is a lot I wonder about where my money is going towards, but compared to most colleges I think central is fairly cheap for what you get. I would love to see more about what my money is being used for, but that is just me.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Homecoming is always a favorite tradition around here, starting early with the parade and then the football game. It is always a fun time, and there is always fun stuff that is going on that weekend. Around Halloween a fun tradition that we have is a haunted tour, where the show you the places around campus that are said to be haunted.

Great for these types of students

Central is a great university for those who like to feel like their going to a small university, when really it is fairly big. Everyone is so welcoming and comforting and I know I can always feel at home when I come up for the school year.

    Clubs and Activities

We do have a lot of clubs and activities that go on, but i think sometimes it can be overwhelming. I think that the clubs should try to reach out more and get peoples attention other than with just flyer's.

    Greek Life

I am not a part of Greek life, but those who are say that it is a lot of fun. I think it costs way to much money just to have some friends. The dues that you have to pay just to be a member are outrageous and I think there should be other alternatives to not having to pay or options for those who can't afford it and are on financial aid.

    Campus Safety

We have a very good safety program here. I am never that scared to walk alone at night because there are always people out and there are always copes driving around to make sure that everything is ok. I also like the feature of safe ride where students can get a ride from and to campus locations if you are alone.

The campus is small and easy to navigate. There are multiple services for tutoring, financial help, planning classes, etc. All in all, CMU is a great school!

    Tips for prospective students

If you need help, there are lots of people to talk to, don't just ignore it. Get involved in something! It helps you meet new people who share the same interests as you. Lastly, plan ahead. Don't wait until the last minute to talk to a counselor about classes or make appointments, or even doing your homework.

    Dorm Life

CMU provides great housing and many different options of where to live. They also provide an online roommate matching service so you can choose roommates that might have something in common with you rather than going in completely blind.

    Food and Dining

They also provide great residential restaurants with choices for everyone (vegetarian, vegan, etc.). The only downside is that not all of the restaurants have the same quality food and some close much too early for many people.

    What to do for fun

There are many sports teams that you can try out for and even more intramural teams. CMU offers countless programs and clubs to keep you occupied in your free time. They also provide students with what we call the SAC (the student activity center) where there is bowling, basketball, workout equipment, swimming, and much more for students to use at their leisure.

    Bang for the buck

I believe that CMU has been worth every penny. They provide you with nearly everything you ever need.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A tradition that I have come to find unusual is the midnight scream. At midnight on the first night of exam week, everyone goes out side or opens their windows and lets out a scream. It's very entertaining when you can hear it across the entire campus!

Great for these types of students

CMU is great for students that like to be invloved. Whether it's in clubs or organizations CMU offers something for everyone.

    Clubs and Activities

There really is something for everyone at CMU. Ranging from Harry Potter clubs to Study Clubs to Sports clubs.

    Campus Safety

Campus security is very good. They offer a free ride service called Safe Rides at night so you won't have to walk around campus at night by yourself. The only drawback is that they will only take 2 people at a time. CMU also has an alert system that will send a message out to your cell phone in the form of a text message or voicemail to warn you about severe weather, fires, snow days, anything that is a campus wide threat or announcement.

Central Michigan is a college for those to explore who they want to be by finding what they love to do. With so many clubs and activities to become involved with, it is easy to find friends and help in academics. Central has great advisors who help students make a four year plan and stay on track for graduation.

    Tips for prospective students

You do not have to know what you want to do with the rest of your life, just know what you love to do. Central offers many different varieties in majors and allows the student to find the right path for themselves. Do not underestimate what you can do with your life because anything is possible if you are willing to put in the effort. If you are thinking about not attending college because you are unsure if you can afford, do not worry. Student loans make it affordable for students to go to school and pay it off reasonably after graduation. Our student services for financial aid and scholarships are always available to talk to to discuss your financial situations.

    Academic Rigor

Although Central's courses are more difficult, they are not impossible. As long as you are putting in the effort needed for each class, and some require more than others, you will be fine in the courses. Be sure to take advantage of the resources they offer and do not be afraid to e-mail your professors if you are struggling or need help with the information, that is what they are there for!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is awesome and be sure to take advantage of everything they offer. Introducing yourself to your floor mates and being involved with the activities on campus is a great way to meet people are find what you might be interested in doing. Although it can be distracting and hard to stay focused on material at times, it is important to balance your social life with your academic work load by taking time out in the day to go to the library or miss out on an activity to do homework.

    Food and Dining

Although their is a lot of complaint about the campus food, we will not know how nice it is to have food ready for us and with so many varieties of dishes. with seven different stations, and three different meals a day, there is always something to find and something that you enjoy to have at the different cafeteria locations around campus.

    What to do for fun

Mount Pleasant may be a small town, but there are always events and activities going on either on or outside of campus. These can easily be found either on flyers outside or around campus, or on the home page of central's website. Most events are free and other times they hold concerts which can sometimes have a fee.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive and sometimes it is hard to understand why. Central is constantly working on the appearance of the campus with renovation inside the dorms or buildings, as well as the cafeteria and the maintenance of the campus.
