As an Aerospace Engineering student I have found that learning at Embry-Riddle is based on your ability to teach yourself. Some professors are less willing to help than others, and often you must ask the right questions to get what you need. You really need to sit down and review every day in order to learn and retain what the professors teach.

    Am enjoying being here

The Daytona Beach campus has a lot to offer their students. There are so many activities and organizations outside of the classrooms that it's almost difficult to choose what to join. The school makes an effort to keep their students involved as well. The greek organizations and the greek community in general offer every student opportunities for advancement. Also, the Daytona Beach area is full of life and activities that anyone can enjoy.

    Bang for the buck

Embry-Riddle has a very high cost of tuition. However, the University offers so many opportunities for the students that it is definitely worth attending. There is a career fair every fall held by the school that brings in top aerospace companies from across the country and all of them are looking to hire students for internships and co-ops.

    Tips for prospective students

The classes at the University take a lot of hard work and dedication to pass. I started at 16 credit hours but found that taking 12 or 13 is best for me because of the work load. If you can buckle down and really focus on your school work then you will succeed. However, it is very easy to find other students who are willing to help you.

Great for these types of students

Hardworking, Independent, Straight A's in high school, Previous experience in the Engineering field.

This is a challenging school, and you can start taking classes relevant to your major, whatever it may be, in your second semester or year, depending on what classes you earn credit for in high school or community college. There are no real general education classes like in other schools, so a degree from Embry-Riddle is more specialized than a degree from other schools.

    Am enjoying being here

There are many clubs and extra-curricular activities to participate in, if you want to that is. But in the area, there's not much that is computer or technology related in Daytona. Whether or not you will enjoy Daytona Beach really depends on if you like the beach and general Florida weather.

    Bang for the buck

The school is expensive, but for aviation, there's not much else to choose from as far as universities go. The degrees are very specialized when compared to most state colleges, so it's your own opinion if it's worth the extra money.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in extra-curriculars early, ther wise it's likely that you won't get involved at all.

Great for these types of students

Engineers, pilots, anyone who likes aviation.

As an engineering student, I've learned a lot in the 2 months I've been here. I realize I'm only a freshman, but all the professors here are incredible knowledgeable in every aspect of what they teach. We're not only being taught academics here, to be successful in college you also begin to pick up leadership skills that will help lead to a better future.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at this university. All the facilities are great, we're right next to the airport, and all the students here are so much more respectful than those of other schools. It's nice walking down the sidewalk and almost every person you pass smiles at you and says good morning, good afternoon, etc. All the students here have a profound respect for everyone and everything around them. It's also great being here when airshows come into town. This past weekend was the Embry-Riddle Wings & Waves Airshow and it was definitely one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Being the airport is right next to the university, all the planes used are housed here. It's pretty sweet when your sitting in class and you have F18's or F22's flying over the campus.

    Bang for the buck

Even though Riddle is an expensive place to be, it's worth every penny. Riddle is all around an incredible place to be and you truly get what you pay for. All the labs on campus are top of the line, all the equipment used is brand new and anything you could ever possibly need is available for you somewhere on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Anyone considering coming here should definitely do so, especially if you're considering a career in aerospace. This university is the best in the U.S. for what it offers and is definitely worth it. Just make sure you keep your grades up and make sure you aren't afraid to challenge yourself in high school.

Great for these types of students

This university is perfect for anyone considering an aerospace career. Even if you're considering a degree in business, homeland security, or a different discipline of engineering, having a university such as this on your resume will no doubt get you any job you could possible want.

The classes are very good. Some you may hate but the fact is it's college and you're going to have to put in some level of work. But most of that work is made fairly easy by the staff. For the most part all of the professors I have had have been friendly approachable and helpful. There's always an exception but such is any school.

    Am enjoying being here

Let me be clear. There is not much to do in Daytona. The school has no girls, only one frat has a house, most people are either extremely uptight or terrible at socializing. Because of all this, there are no parties. I came from a school where there were five or six parties of over 200 people at the frats every weekend and the biggest I've seen at embry was 50, with maybe 15 girls. If you want to party, dont come here. If you are going to come, find a couple good friends, people you click with. They'll keep you sane.

    Bang for the buck

Let's be honest. Embry is extremely expensive. It is a good school. It has good connections and good education. But tuition is outrageous and if you are flying as well, you're looking at prices matching those of ivy league schools. Embry is good, but not that good. Get some financial help if you're coming here. Otherwise your debt will eat you.

    Tips for prospective students

Get financial aid and apply for scholarships. Get some good friends. Study. Classes aren't brain killers by any means but can catch you off guard if you're not keeping up. do your best to have fun. You can find it if you look. It's more difficult to find at embry, but its there.

Great for these types of students

students who are fine with a handful of great friends. students who hate snow and love the beach. students who are fine chilling and don't need big parties or tons of stuff to please them.

Embry Riddle is a great college to further your Aviation/engineering dreams. The class are small and the teachers are super nice and helpful when you have questions. plus there are amazing activities near the campus and amazing clubs to join on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

the best advise I can give prospective students is not to procrastinate because deadline come up fast and you do not want to be pulling all nighters. Also just because you did good in high School does not mean you'll do as well in college, college is a whole different ball games but its interesting.

    Academic Rigor

Embry Riddle is hard but it is worth it. Embry Riddle would not be number 1 in Aerospace Engineering if it weren't.

    Dorm Life

you get to meet a lot of really cool people from all over the world. All the freshman dorms are in the middle of campus so you are close to everything.

    Food and Dining

The food is ok, it just depends where you go. We have two dining facilities a buffet and then like an almost anything you could want place. then we also have a Starbucks, a burger place, and a chic-a-fil

    What to do for fun

We are about a quarter of a mile from Daytona International Speedway and we have a lot of other activities. We are 4.3 miles from the beach ad we have clubs and ice skating near the college. There are a ton of restaurants and on campus we have sand volleyball courts and racquetball courts.

ERAU has the best Aeronautical Science program in the country. I could not be more pleased with my education...

    Am enjoying being here

One of my professors told me that the Blue Angel's have a meeting every morning and before each flight... he said that before any one of the Blue Angel's talks that each one of them always say I am happy to be here, and I will fix it. Sometimes I wish the weekends did not seem so long because of my lack of ability to get anywhere off campus; however, this semester the weekends are not long enough... I cannot imagine myself being anywhere else. Did I mention that I love to fly? :]

    Bang for the buck

You are paying for a reputation, a reputation that is well known through the aviation industry. I had an english professor who owned a flight school off campus and he was in the process of hiring a CFI. He had 3 people apply for the job... one person with over 2,000 hours, another person with a degree from a local flight school with 1,000 hours and finally there was a ERAU graduate with less then 500 hours. Who do you think got the job? Having a degree from ERAU exemplifies the quality of your education, and makes you as a student highly marketable after graduation because of the schools reputation. Yes it is expensive, but think of it as an investment in yourself. And it should not be long until your investment, pays off.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely make sure that you are absolutely dedicated to whatever degree program you come here for. If at all possible take your gen.eds at a community college or something BUT FIRST MAKE SURE THEY WILL TRANSFER!!! I transferred with almost a years worth of credits, so I saved myself about $40,000. Also, the library is a happening place especially during finals!!!! :]

Great for these types of students

Mature, dedicated and hard working students especially if interested in AE (engineering) or AS (professional pilot).

The professors at the Daytona Beach Campus are the best. I just completed my first year and I assure you it is a challenge from the start. However, don't let that deter you from coming to the Daytona Campus.

    Am enjoying being here

Daytona is a good area for school not to mention ERAU is conveniently located across the street from a Kmart, down the street from a Walmart, as well as next door to an airport. The beach is beautiful and a cool place to hang out.

Riddle is the best institution in the world for Aerospace engineering majors by far. Everyone will tell you its expensive but its definitely worth it. I have personally talked to Senior Aerospace Engineers and recruiters for Boeing and other Aerospace giants. Riddle is the place to be.

    Tips for prospective students

Tip # 1 Get a good amount of sleep. I had two 8 am classes my first year. Teachers will lecture whether you are awake or not

Tip# 2 Do your work within a reasonable amount of time. A lot of people will procrastinate. The result is a mediocre grade if not an F.

Tip# 3 Get involved. Recruiters for internships are looking for people who are actively participating in activities relating to their major, not just the 4.0 student although a good GPA helps tremendously.

Great for these types of students

Great school for Aviation Maintenance Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering (w/ focus in Robotics)

Embry Riddle has some of the finest professors around, with no graduate students teaching classes, and top of the line laboratories and tons of hands on experience, there is no other college or university to compare to this one.

    Am enjoying being here

Embry Riddle Aeronautical University .. at where? Daytona Beach! Yes, that is right Daytona Beach. What is there not to enjoy?

    Bang for the buck

ERAU is rated as the top school, ahead of the United States Air Force Academy, as the best aerospace school. This reputation of its says a lot about their curriculum and studies.

    Tips for prospective students

Truth is, this college is very expensive and a very specialized one. Make sure that this is what you want to do first because a few undesired years hear, could put you in the hole for a while.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who loves aviation and flight. This university is located directly on an airport where hours and hours are spent at learning hands on. Also, this university is located at Daytona Beach where there are many outdoor activities to be had and clubs and organizations to be joined.

    Am learning a lot

There is A LOT of material to study and you need to study extra stuff on your own to be successful. If you cannot commit to studying EVERY DAY then pick a different school.

    Am enjoying being here

The university is very diverse and you can learn a lot about different people and different cultures. Remember that most of what you learn in college is learned outside of the classroom. There are tons of things to do here and tons of amazing clubs you can join.

    Bang for the buck

The embry-riddle name is a great asset to have on your application - many companies will hire you just on the fact that you made it through the school; however, the cost does not mean you will always have a state-of-the-art education experience. Often you will find yourself in charge of your own education, having to learn on your own. Also, there is very little - if any - financial aide. The engineering classes are worth the money (if you get a good teacher), but classes in other departments are WAY overpriced. Remember that YOU are the one paying for it and the teachers and staff WORK FOR YOU. Make sure they are working hard for their money and take advantage of every resource available!!!

    Tips for prospective students

If you do not have strong willpower and a set goal to work towards, this school is probably not the best choice for you. If you plan on studying engineering, make sure you know how to study and learn on your own before attending.

Great for these types of students

Self-motivated, smart students who can manage their time and education well. ALSO: the school administration SUCKS!!!! If you cannot handle dealing with administrators and fixing errors and going through the riddle run-around back and forth to different offices (none of which know whats going on), I suggest you start from day one learning how this school operates and GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!!!!

Embry-Riddle is all about teaching you what you need to know about your major. The classes are informative, cover a wide variety of topics. Each class is very in depth and covers the materiel well. Most of the professors are good at their jobs, however some are difficult to follow. If you love to learn, this is the place to be. An Important note: The professors usually love what they teach and it shows.

    Am enjoying being here

The student life at Riddle is pretty lively. There are facilities for different sports such as tennis, racquetball, basketball, baseball, and the different forms of track. The campus has a production company that hosts a movie once a week, and there are many clubs and organizations on campus to get involved in. If you can't find a club that fits you then you can start your own, the student government will even help fund it.

    Bang for the buck

The price of classes is expensive and it may not seem worth the extreme tuition, but remember that it is Riddle. Riddle is know around the world for being the best. The classes in the beginning may not seem worth it at first, but the classes after the first year or so are more than worth the cost, and you will come out of Riddle with a reputation of excellence.

The meal plans are not worth the money, Stick with the most basic and if you are still hungry make a walmart run.

    Tips for prospective students

A few hints for prospective students:
If you go here remember that the professors will keep pushing you and that doing the homework is very important. Do it.
Take the classes seriously. People who slack are eliminated very quickly here. Get involved in the campus if you do not, you will miss out on the opportunity of a life time.

Great for these types of students

Riddle is great for people who love learning, to push the limits of technology and to be on the cutting edge of discovery. Much of what is done at riddle is new science. If you want to be a scientist or engineer than the staff offers many opportunities to work with the new theories of the worlds scientists. If you wish to be a flight student the flight line offers ample opportunities to learn as well.

Emrbry-Riddle is a very challenging school when it comes to the technical majors, and can be very time consuming. It is a very small college, so you do get to make friends quickly and see them everyday. Overall life can be kind of slow here but if you study you learn a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard, avoid eating at the buffet too much, and try to exercise whenever possible.

embry-riddle has a way to make out-of-state students comfortable with the new environment. they also provide an organized flight program, and everything on campus revolves around the aviation world. the best part of all is that the flight training begins right away.

    Tips for prospective students

prospective students must be ready to work hard and fast. the material is giving fairly quickly, but the quality is tremendous. it would be best if incoming students begin to develop study habits, and learn to ask questions in order to get the material.

    Academic Rigor

the academic curriculum at embry-riddle is incredible. if your aspiring to be a pilot, then this is the perfect place because the classes are all about aviation. without a doubt this school has the best aviation classes in the country.

    Dorm Life

at embry-riddle the dorm life helps you become a professional at your desired major; for instance, if your objective is to become a commercial or airline pilot, then you will be adapting yourself to waking up early. of course there are parties like in every other university, but the dorm life helps you become responsible about you obligations.

    Food and Dining

the university has a variety of food and dining places. it varies from buffet styled to cafeteria styled places. although the food is good, it would be nice to have additional dining places and better quality food.

    What to do for fun

there are many clubs on campus, which help past the extra time. embry-riddle students have created clubs that very from paintball squads to hockey teams. the atmosphere on campus is great, and as long as you open yourself up to new experiences you will have fun.

    Bang for the buck

embry-riddle is worth every penny. the curriculum is a great, the campus life is great, but the best part of all is that the teachers do care about how their students are doing. if they see you having trouble, then expect an email or call from you instructor to verify that you are alright.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the most unusual tradition would have to be the group of orientation members. if there is a game day, you better expect a bang on your door from hyperactive and jolly orientation members(the o team).

Great for these types of students

in general this university is great for students who aspire to join the aviation business, and are very outgoing and social.

    Clubs and Activities

there is an amazing variety of clubs on campus. the best part is that if you do not find a club which fits your interest, then you may start your own.

    Greek Life

walking down the pathways of the university you will without a doubt see fraternity and sorority members wearing their jerseys. the main cafeteria is filled with their emblems on the top walls.

    Campus Safety

since the first time that i stepped on campus, there has never been an instance when i felt unsafe. campus safety does a great job at protecting students from outside influences and are always on watch.

embry-riddle aeronautical university (riddle to current students) is the top aviation and aeronautical engineering university in the country. we are a very diverse campus, hosting students from all around the world. however, we are also very small, at only about 5,000 undergraduate students.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure your math skills are very sharp as they will help you succeed in the classroom. also, a trip to campus is a must, just to make sure the location is a fit for you.

    Academic Rigor

courses are very tough, very hands on, and very focused. however, because of the small class sizes, professors will get to know you, and will do their best to help you succeed.

    Dorm Life

for freshman, i definitely suggest trying to get a room in mckay. the rooms resemble rooms you would find like at a days inn or a mid-range hotel. you split a bedroom and a bathroom with one other person, and a common area with two other suite mates. campus housing does a good job of matching people with similar interests up as roommates.

    Food and Dining

food on campus is amazing. we have a chickfila, an einsteins brothers bagels (some of the most awesome people work there), a starbucks, an all you can eat buffet, a typical cafeteria, and many other options for food on campus. there are options to use your meal plan at every dining location, however you can also pay with cash, credit, or debit card.

    What to do for fun

touch-n-go productions (an on-campus student organization) arranges many activities throughout the week. every thursday night, we have free movie night where they show hit blockbuster films. so far this semester they have shown movies such as money ball, real steel, and 50/50. many other organizations put on events throughout the week as well.

    Bang for the buck

riddle is a private school, so it definitely is not cheap. however, you do get what you pay for. the professors here know what they are teaching, and enjoy teaching. job placement out of riddle is especially high, and riddle graduates are looked highly upon by companies such as boeing, spacex, northrop-grumman, and many others.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the biggest tradition on campus is our spirit rock. this rock is located near the student center, and it is always covered in spray paint. different on-campus organizations, teams, and individuals will go out at night just to paint this rock. greek life will paint about rush events, sports teams will paint about upcoming games, individual students will paint about birthdays, anniversaries, and other things.

Great for these types of students

riddle is great for students interested in engineering, aviation, or pretty much any technical degree. all major classes have an aviation focus, so students with any interest in aviation (even if its from the business perspective) would fit in great here!

    Clubs and Activities

there are so many clubs and activities already on campus: academic clubs, athletic clubs, social clubs, aviation clubs. but the rule on campus is, if there isn't a club for what you want, make one!

    Campus Safety

safety on campus is great. they offer escort services at night, emergency services such as car battery jumps, they will provide you with a way to get gasoline if you run out. they provide many other services to ensure that the students and their property remain safe.

Embry Riddle is a wonderful environment for focused students to thrive in. The engineering departments are full of professors who see the true capabilities of students and assign tasks suited to them. No other school can guarantee a greater chance of career success.

    Tips for prospective students

Students must get involved in projects or design teams as soon as they can. In this economy, your resume needs to be filled with real world experience that can only be gained through projects.

    Academic Rigor

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is typical with a very social atmosphere.

    What to do for fun

There are fraternities and sororities, as well as movies, socials and homecoming events.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to get out there and try new things. Join clubs and partake in the many recreational sports they have. Embry Riddle has something for everyone!

    Academic Rigor

From what I have heard, the academics can be rigorous. However, they do offer several tutoring opportunities and for the most part, all the professors are willing to help!

    Dorm Life

I haven't been inside of the dorms yet, so I can't really give an opinion.

    Food and Dining

Embry Riddle has a Chic Fil A and a Starbucks right on campus! The food they sell in the cafeteria is very good as well. Not to mention that it is located in Daytona Beach, so there are a lot of restaurants around.

    What to do for fun

There is so much that a student can do at Embry Riddle. Outside of the clubs and sports, there is a mall right down the road and one of the world's most famous beaches 5 minutes away!

The campus has all the necessary technology you need to succeed in your field of study. The small amount of students allows teachers to focus in on students. Overall, the campus is a great place to learn as well as have fun.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you are aware that there are not very many females, which isn't always a bad thing. A lot of things are repeated at this school but it only benefits you, because that leads to perfection. Do not get behind, its hard to catch up at this school.

    Academic Rigor

School is hard only if you make it hard. The school offers a number of opportunities to help students who are struggling such as tutor labs and online help. The material is not the easiest but if you just study you will be fine.

    Dorm Life

Personally I did not like dorm life because of my roommate. Yet, living on campus was very convenient. Just be sure to be open to living with new people.

    Food and Dining

The quality of the food is probably the best I have seen compared to other colleges. The choice in food gets old quick. The staff is great and are open to hearing new suggestions to improve your dining experience.

    What to do for fun

The beach of course is one of the top things to do. Personally I like to observe flights for fun, its free and you get to learn! There are also events daily that are provided by the school. There is always something to do!

    Bang for the buck

You are definitely receiving your money's worth. The professors at this school are very well qualified and really intelligent. The facilities at this school are like no other in the country. It is definitely worth it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Located in back of the cafeteria outside, is spirit rock. All the organizations or even just regular students spray paint this work to share ideas, as well as let people know about certain events.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities to be a part of. There are clubs tailored to almost every person on campus.

Go to the beach, do random things with the people in your dorm. Daytona is crappy, but you will find a lot of fun, stupid things to do. The lighthouse half an hour south is great late at night.

    Bang for the buck

I expect better food and better education for the money I am paying. There are a lot of extra fees that are unnecessary. Ypu deserve more free stuff for the amount of money you are paying.

The spirit rock is different, it is also cool that such a great beach is so close. Also, get used to the lack of women.

Great for these types of students

If you are: an engineer, pilot, homeland security, ROTC, or are interested in Remote controlled devices. You will love it if you are interested in cars, motors, and have a lot of money.

    Clubs and Activities

For the campus size, good. But, I would like to see more options. RC clubs are plentiful.

    Greek Life

Alright, but Tri-Sigma girls are the worst. A decent amount of options for a small campus.

    Campus Safety

We had a shooting that ended up on campus and no student or staff member got hurt, they are quick to respond. They also, are friendly and quick to help you out. The student branch of campus safety sucks, though.

After spending my first college years at a major public 50,000+ student university, I have come to love Embry-Riddle for many reasons. It is much smaller, offering chances to get to know your professor and peers which increases your learning experience. It is also located in a very nice area, the beach is nearby, Orlando and theme parks are not far away which all makes it an ideal place to attend college.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to take it easy on your first semester and don't take more than 14 hours. College was a shock to me my first semester after high school, as I was not prepared for the difficulty level. Also make sure to get involved on campus and with student organizations!

    Academic Rigor

Courses are very good here. They are taught by knowledgeable professors and are usually quite small, which gives you an advantage. They can be tough, but there are plenty of tutoring and other services available to students for help.

    Dorm Life

I'm giving it 3 stars because I did not live in the dorms. From what I have heard, it is not bad at all. Many people meet their first college friends in dorms and stick with them for life.

    Food and Dining

If you live in the dorms, there is a cafeteria with many kinds of foods that are usually pretty good. On campus there is also an Einsteins, Chickfila, Starbucks, Freshens and other vendors that are great!

    What to do for fun

If you get involved on campus, many student organizations have activities that are fun when you join! Additionally, the beach is nearby which is always a fun place to go to. Orlando is about an hour away where you can find Universal and Disney World parks.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is probably the worst aspect of this university. However, it has a good reputation and I feel like I am getting a quality education that will be recognized. Although it is very high, it will definitely pay off in the end.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a spirit rock near our student center that gets painted all the time for school games and many events. Anyone is allowed to go paint it (usually secretly at night) so that it can be shown off the next day for whatever reason.

Great for these types of students

Aviation enthusiasts! Even if you don't want to be a pilot, there are many programs that either tie in aviation or are directly concentrated in the aviation field.

    Clubs and Activities

There are quite a bit of student organizations that you can join. You can find anything that suits your interest and join! Even if you don't, you can get a couple friends and start one yourself. They are great on campus and I highly encourage joining at least 1!

    Greek Life

I am giving this 3 stars because I am not in Greek Life. I have heard it is great to be a part of, however, and many of my friends enjoy it. This is a small university so there are not many to choose from, but if you get involved I'm sure it would be great.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe! I have never heard of anything alarming from students or the university. They have 24-hour patrollers and a direct number you can call for campus safety.

    Am learning a lot

As a kid that has wanted to fly all of his life, there simply was no other option than the top aviation school of the world. I am taking classes that keep me engaged, even though it is more of a boring subject. I really like learning here.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the vibe of the campus and it feels somewhat like a big university even though it is so small. Everyone is friends here and they stay that way. A very tight knit community.

    Bang for the buck

Well, with any school, education costs cashola, with Embry Riddle they definitely ask you to pass that cash, but you are also getting the top teachers from around the world, I know a physics professor who wrote his own textbook and it is very widely used along with a meteorology teacher who used to forecast the entire atlantic ocean on a daily basis for years. You simply are getting the best teachers here, but man is it expensive.

    Tips for prospective students

DO NOT SKIMP ON THE STUDY!!! Many time I have found myself cramming for the test at the last minute and it bites me in the rear in the end. Also, MAKE SURE YOUGO FOR SCHOLARSHIP MONEY. I cannot stress this enough, especially if you are a flight major.

Great for these types of students

If you like science, flying, engineering, math or anything technical, come on down!
