Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students I am truly enjoying the experience of this HBCU. The connections are great. I am currently enrolled in the 5 year business program which is listed as the top business program in the country. I am employed with the US Attorneys Office here in Tallahassee. It like all other colleges has it down falls, with loss of information etc. but for the most part it is a good experience.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Florida A&M University is one of the top HBCU's in the country. Attending this university gives students a growing experience as well as a chance to broaden their horizon like no other. The academics are outstanding and professors push for excellence. Incoming students encounter and endure a very welcoming environment by upperclassmen, academic advisors, and professors to ease the heavy anticipation and suspense of the transitioning stage. At FAMU you will always find something that matches your interests or personality because there are an exuberant amount of organizations and clubs to join.
The location of the school is Tallahassee, Florida. Tallahassee is on the states panhandle and the weather is superb which may have a positive influence on a perspective students selection of this school. The enrollment at FAMU is fairly large for an HBCU with about 12,000 students. Scholars come from all throughout the country and internationally to attend this university (such as myself, a Washington, DC resident). There are many great people to meet and interact with which gives students a greater outlook on the world around them. Whether living on or off campus you take on the responsibilities of an independent which prepare students for the next phase their life, adulthood.
Florida A&M University is a well rounded school and has a place for everyone.Great for these types of students hard-working students

Bang for the buck It's more of a BOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM for some change...
Tips for prospective students The teachers as well as your peers really care about your success, that's the atmosphere that has been set. The campus life is incredible. It's the #1 producer of African American's with Bachelor's and Master's degrees for a reason...
Great for these types of students African americans with great pride in their culture.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Many of the teachers are very enthusiastic about the subjects they teach. It was always best to take notes, because many of them text directly off of them. I've learned a lot things i probably would've ever thought I'd care to know, but now their permanently inserted in my head..
Am enjoying being here Oh, I LOVE it! the atmosphere is great. People are so friendly. If you get lost don't hesitate to ask anybody walking by, you may just make a new friend. The weekends are always best to chill or find a nice place to have fun. But always stay in groups. Since famu isnt a private college and its not gated, you have to take precautions, such as; not going anywhere alone, and always be alert of your surroundings.
Bang for the buck It worth the money, but financial aid is a big handful. it always busy the first couple weeks and its hard to reach them by telephone. so go their personally.
Great for these types of students ANY TYPE. you'll enjoy, cause no one person at famu is the same.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Before I graduated high school in Indiana, I would never have considered a college like FAMU. It's a historical black college and, considering my ethnicity, it is very intimidating going to a college that I am a minority. Though my heart raced a little my first visit to the college, I found that everyone attending or employed FAMU welcomed me with open arms and grand smiles.
If you are in need of assistance in any way, FAMU is always there to help. Granted, they tend to 'misplace' paper work. But I could never have asked for a better place to attend. The campus is gorgeous and the school spirit and outstanding!Great for these types of students Great for ambitious students who like to work hard and take it easy at the same time.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot here at Florida A and M University. I learn more about our past as African Americans here than i have anywhere else. We are constantly told that a first appearance is everything because you only have one time to make it and since we are a school known to host a lot of very important people that lesson is taken to heart. As an SBIAN our saying is, No Academic Pain, No Professional Gain! hopefully that says it all for you
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere here is great. i myself made some friends my first day and have been hanging since. i work at school alot and since i am a freshman this year is was important to established a friendship with some of th upper classman which i have as an SBIAN established relationships with people who are third and fourth year and m.b.a students as well as my own freshman class
Tips for prospective students Make sure that your SAT And ACT Scores are top notch and make sure you fill out fafsa for getting some money to come here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot FAMU has helped me choose the best major for me and has helped the teachers in my college go out of their way to make sure that I have the best experiences and am taking the right classes to be successful in my major
Am enjoying being here FAMU is not like any other school in that the students at FAMU are help to help one another. The school spirit and the closeness of the student body is amazing. Everyone helps one another in many ways, FAMU helps you build connections that will last a lifetime.
Bang for the buck Compared to other schools FAMU is very economical and moderately priced for the education you will be recieving.
Tips for prospective students Go to FAMU with no expectations because it will be WHAT YOU MAKE IT. Everyone's experience is different it just depends on how you spend your time here.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I am a high school freshmen and i am researching this school. So far from the comments i have read, FAMU is the best place to be. Ive only read one negative comment, but the rest were positive. I believe i will get a quality education in this school.
Will enjoy being here I think my years at FAMU will be awesomee! From the comments i read, FAMU seems like the type of school that host many outings and parties. Also the students here seem very together and they look out for one another. That is very important!
Bang for the buck From what im looking at on Cappex, FAMU is moderatley priced and is not that expensive as some other HBCUs. Which is great! I also hear they are very generous with their financial aid!
Tips for prospective students Well i am a prospective student, but from the comments i read, if you want a quality education in a very social enviornment this is the place to be!
Great for these types of students Hard-working, ambitious, outgoing, and social students

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Here the professors have a tendency to want to help their students understand the material. If the student shows a conscious effort to want to learn, the professors will gladly help
Am enjoying being here The HBCU experience is awe inspiring. Everyone here is beyond friendly and all the administrators are readily helpful to those in need.
Tips for prospective students Many people argue the importance of going to big named schools in order to get the best education. I've noticed that no matter what school he or she enrolls in, it is always going to be up to the student do their part in making the most out of their education opportunity. Likewise, no matter where they go, the raw material that each professor teaches should be the same. Therefore Florida A & M University is just as good as any school when it comes to gaining a quality education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have attended 5 semesters at this HBCU and have learned a lot in both my major and in other majors. Being a 5 year MBA student, the curriculum is very tedious and you are expected to be well-rounded. I have studied both business courses and extracurricular courses such as the prestigious marching band of which I learned a lot taking part in also. The only down-side to things is every teacher will not be kind and some will be harder on you because they feel that since they worked for their degree, you should also.
Am enjoying being here This city is a mid-size city of culture. On the south side of the city is Florida A&M and on the north side is TCC and Florida State. The number of colleges in the city make the entertainment never ending. There are ample amounts of extracurricular activities to partake in from the arts to various volunteer groups.
Bang for the buck I am a student from another state. It is unfortunate that I have to pay the out-of-state tuition and was not offered scholarships that students from Florida received, although I was qualified. The tuition is not as high as other schools. Also, there is no school as thorough as the School of Business and Industry. I feel that with the rate that I pay, I am paying for every amount of knowledge that I obtain and more. Another downside to tuition is the financial aid lines. Not only do they add redundant and unnecessary fees, the lines are usually out the door or take forever. Your best bet would be to stand in line before they open early in the year and take care of everything at once.
Tips for prospective students The only tips I would give to those who are planning on matriculating at this university is to study hard. College is nothing like high school simply for the fact that you are both without your parents so you have more freedom and because every teacher is not going to guide you through for an easy A.
Great for these types of students Any student would enjoy attending Florida A&M. The university is an equal opportunity school and would help any type of student succeed. There are so many activities and majors to involve oneself in that there is no way that a certain type of student would not be comfortable in.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This pass term I've learned great social, professional, and leadership skills. Being avoid in extra-curriculum is not an option, it is a must. You will fill oblige to join numerous of organizations, be involved in your major, not because you have to but because you want to.
Am enjoying being here Being at Florida A and M allowed me to met one of the greatest organization on campus called Voices, which is the first poetry groups on campus. Through them, I gained a chance to be more involved in the community of Tallahassee, also the opportunity to be a leader, and increase my talent as an poet.
Bang for the buck For out of state students, yes it is expansive. It is well worth it, only if you know what to do while you are here. You will get a great balance of the party life, academic life, and life in general.
Tips for prospective students When you first arrive make sure your Financial Aid is in order.
Make sure you have a way to pay for school.
Never stop applying for scholarships.
Surround yourself with positivity, although this is a great institute, their is still negativity surrounding it.
Get involved in school, if you sit around, you will hate it.Great for these types of students Future Leaders
lawyers
dreamers
hard- workers
etc. This school is great for everybody but sloths, but even than this school can break that.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot So far I've learned so much more than what I expected. Famu makes sure you get your education in first.
Am enjoying being here It is an HBCU! Fun is an everyday thing at Famu so be ready for that.
Bang for the buck Famu's tuition might not be high but the little here and there fees and trouble cost a lot at the end of the day.
Tips for prospective students Apply for everything early!!! Make copies of anything and everything they give you. BUY rain-boots and your own printer, it'll save you time and shoes.
Great for these types of students People who want a fun environment where they can still get a great education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot A very stable major is required for a student to even learn something at FAMU.
Am enjoying being here The teachers have no passion for their job, FAMU is mainly a party school. Many papers are lost or never graded right based on biased teachers.
Bang for the buck The financial aid office, recently and in the past, have misplaced or sent student refunds either late or not the full stated amount on the computer.Staff and employees of the financial aid office are very lazy and get absolutely no work done for student scholarships.
Tips for prospective students RUN!!!!!!!!!! If you want to party then FAMU is the school for you. Other than that I would not recommend it to any incoming freshman.
Great for these types of students Business majors and agricultural majors that do not require much effort.

Am enjoying being here Met tons of students from all over including NYC, Texas, D.C. and many other places. I enjoy being on campus and becoming involved in numerous campus activities. The activities and campus organizations here will keep you busy if you enjoy being involved!
Bang for the buck Professors at Florida A&M are very passionate and interested in hearing their students thoughts and opinions.
Tips for prospective students Great HBCU experience at Florida A&M. Come here with an open mindset and prepare to learn the roots of many things you only discussed lightly in high school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot In my Major I have a hands-on experience with the constant need to meet deadlines. Since the merge of curriculum at the School Journalism and Graphics Arts and Communication, I was able to learn all sides of media, the production, the writing and designing.
Am enjoying being here I love the college life. Everything in town is adjusted just for the average college student weather it be food for the late night crammers or just the conveyances of everything being within walking distance. The different organizations keep your interest too. There is always an event that enlightens you as well as have free food, and many other different things.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you get tons of scholarships while you can or make Florida your home for your senior year. Unlike the rest of us, you'll be stuck paying the out-of-state tuition...which is extremely higher than those that are Florida Residents.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Due to Florida A&M University intensive and competitive School of Business you are determined to learn on your own. However, the teaching staff is great and helpful.
Am enjoying being here I am never bored at Florida A&M University! i enjoy the extracurricular activities such as clubs, organizations, and events held by the schools. The parties are also exciting and fun.
Bang for the buck I am an out of state student and the cost of attending Florida A&M university is fair. However, most student including i would complain about financial aid. Financial aid is very slow with disbursement and accurate on collections. Financial aid would be the negative part of FAMU.
Tips for prospective students Attending Florida A&M University has been the best experience of my life. I've learned about my major but also about myself. If you plan on attending FAMU there will be many distractions parties, boys/girls, parties, and parties. Remember you are there to be a student first focus on your academics or you will wish you had.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students FAMU is the #1 HBCU around if you ask me. When attending this university be prepared to have a lot of fun but be prepared to work hard as well. Many of the professors live for teaching their students and they are always willing to help, but you have to be willing to help yourself as well because they will not do ALL the work for you, but they will do what they can to help you succeed and get where you are trying to go. I am a second year Pharmacy major in the six year PharmD program and I must say I love it. On top of that we have the best Pharmacy program around. There is always someone to help around campus whether faculty or student. At FAMU we are all one big FAMUly(family) and it really shows. I will admit the school has it's moments and downfalls but trust me the pros of attending DEFINITELY outweigh the cons. To any future students I highly recommend FAMU and I hope to one day be able to welcome you to the baddest HBCU that prides itself on excellence with caring.

Tips for prospective students I know you've heard rumors about FAMU being a party school but that isn't true. It's all about the student. You can either choose to party or you can choose to buckle down and be focused. That's what you're in school for anyway. After graduating and making the salary you desire you can party all you like :)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot its a really good place to learn. the teachers are friendly the assignment aren't so hard if you have the rite material.
Am enjoying being here the university in general is pretty awesome but there are some places that are not. for example some of the male dorms are kinda disgusting, one room for two people with bunk beds. and the toilet are for everybody on the floor some times the students doesn't flush and that's nasty. and also i dislike the stairs too many of them other than that its pretty good especially the set
Bang for the buck yes and worth it. the campus is great many places to go and get food during the day. the buss are free. etc
Tips for prospective students its important that before you come to the university you need to take care of your financial aid stuff because once you got to the school its not easy anymore you are going to spend hours in line waiting for your turn. and may not even seen, i speak form experience so don't be like me and procrastinate .
Great for these types of students its great for student who like to socially interact and love to learn. also students that are interested in band because we have the best band marching 100 generally if you like to have fun while focusing on your studying then this a great school just for you.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences As a native northerner, I was very apprehensive about enrolling in a southern school-- especially one that is currently dealing with a national scandal. However, In the few weeks I have been here, my opinion has completely evolved. The academics, the atmosphere, the facilities, and of course, the student body are wonderful, and, I am very happy to call FAMU my home for the next four years.
Tips for prospective students Be nice, speak up, and be persistent!
Academic Rigor I am still early in the semester, but the instructors I have had thus far were not difficult, but they require an average amount of effort. Listen, take notes, turn off your phone and i-pod, and do your homework. Most importantly: Study.
Dorm Life SHOWER SHOES, and throw rugs are a must. Also, have your own refrigerator and microwave. The cafeteria is on the opposite side of campus from the five main girls dormitories, and I doubt you want to make that hike everyday. Double rooms are roughly 12.5x13.5 feet-- a pretty decent size, I feel. Not a mansion, but not too cramped either.
Food and Dining The cafeteria has a pizza bar, salad bar, hamburgers,a dessert station, made-to-order sub sandwiches and made-to-order stir fry. There are several chain restaurants on campus, including two coffee shops, pizza hut, and a grill. The food is good, fresh, hot, healthy, and there is a good variety.
What to do for fun The shuttle system can take you to the mall, local attractions, and will bring you back to campus or your off campus apartment. Every Friday, students perform their original music, and often hand out samples free of charge. There is a campus recreation center, theater, bowling alley, various clubs, activities, and sports.
Bang for the buck If you want a school that offers life, learning, top notch facilities, and great resources, FAMU is a good pick.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The FAMU marching 100, regardless of current troubles, are all top notch musicians and performers.
Great for these types of students Great for musicians, artists, scientists, and law school hopefuls.
Clubs and Activities There really are too many to count, and many of them are partnered or affiliated with outside organizations. The schools literary magazine, Cake, is open to both students and staff, and is widely read on campus. There are your basic clubs-- arts, theater, musical, anime...
Greek Life Though I am not personally involved in Greek life, there is a strong influence around them.
Campus Safety There are many preventative measures, like access-card-only- dorms, outdoor lamps, security officers, cameras, and emergency alert posts throughout campus. However, with an open campus, where anyone can walk on campus and into buildings, there is still risk, though it is fairly average in amount.

Bang for the buck It's a great school. One of the best if not the best HBCU!
Tips for prospective students Come to school to get an education and not to spend all your time doing other things that don't really matter such as parties, the opposite sex and etc. It's easy to get distracted but you have to remember why you are in school in the first place.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Florida A and M is an decent university. They have many festive activities and great professors. I would give it an 6 out of 10.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, make sure you take care of financial aid early and be persistent and on top of it. If not you will have many issues that may put you behind. Also don't get caught up in the party life. It will not do well for your academics. But participate in the student life activities. Such as student goverment, homecoming events, plays, etc. This will enhance your experience and create a good social network.
Academic Rigor Depending on the major the academics can be hard or ok. Being an elementary education major is not as easy as it sounds. It takes lots of dedication, time management and creativity to keep up and do well. Attendance is very important also in being able to pass your classes.
Dorm Life Dorm life is ok. Like most college dorm, they are small. The smallest one is paddy foote. They have dorm floor meetings which you should attend to be aware of what is going on. It is a great way to make friends and you have easy access to the events on campus.
Food and Dining The cafeteria has good food. It is buffet style. So a meal plan would be very helpful as a student. There are not many great food options or that many healthy choices but they are making some changes. The food court has about 3 places (kfc/pizza hut, and a little cafe place) around campus there is the orange room which has pretty good food. It is alittle pricy but worth it and then they have dining in the foote hilyer which is home cooked soul food.
What to do for fun For fun you can go to set fridays where they have local vendors. Homecoming is always the most eventful. Also they put on great plays and musicals and there are lots and lots of parties to attend. They have an on campus bowling alley and a recreational room. Also intrumural sports that are quite fun to participate in.
Greek Life The Greek life is the best. Everyone attends and enjoys the probates and the parties. The sororities and faternities are very active.
Campus Safety There are campus police and security around the clock. Just be careful especially at night. It is pretty safe but no matter the security, always be careful and aware of your surroundings.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Florida A&M University I rate a 8 overall, because there could be more programs offered and more campus life activities available to students. However, lack of funding plays a major issue on why certain programs and courses aren't being offered at Florida A&M University.
Tips for prospective students Please attend orientation, if you do not you are already behind. Please research our programs and find out what benefits we offer that others may not. Come ready to learn.
What to do for fun I am currently in a modeling organization on campus. I am also active in our Tallahassee nightlife and promoting for various college organizations.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Fried Chicken Wednesday, Set Fridays, Be OUT DAY.
Great for these types of students Band, prospective Greek students, medical seeking career students
Greek Life AMAZING! Always involved and always creating new things and activities.

Tips for prospective students Tip one: Get to know your teachers! They are always willing to stay and help you with what ever it is you need.
Academic Rigor I am a graphic design major and for incoming students it may be a bit challenging. Software is continuously updating and at FAMU you can tell they try to keep up with technology. Spending a few extra hours a week practicing always will make it easier.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences FAMU is a great school and the students make it even better. I met a lot of new friends and teachers that actually cared about my success in my life. you will be surprised by your experience, i rate this school a perfect 20 on a scale 1 to 10.
Tips for prospective students Go to FAMU with an open mind, what ever people told you about FAMU erase it from your mind because it is not true. you will grow to love FAMU and you will bleed orange and green. I AM A PROUD RATTLER.
Academic Rigor For classes to be at an HBCU they are very difficult, you will feel like you are getting an ivy league education. The professors are there to help you and the curriculum is great.
Dorm Life My dorm room was in the Paddyfote Complex and paddyfote rooms are the smallest on campus but the community and the people was awesome to be around. although my room was small i enjoyed myself. I recommend that incoming female freshman apply for Diamond or Truth and males should apply for Sampson, Young and Gibbs.
Food and Dining THE FOOD IS GREAT!!! I loved the cafe, breakfast was the best and Meatless Mondays were good. A lot of people love Fried Chicken Wednesdays, that's when the cafe was the fullest. But it was good food.
What to do for fun For fun it is a lot of parties and socials that go on and they have socials at the bowling alley on campus to come together and socialize and meet new people. The mall is a short way from the campus and then on Set Friday is when the whole school come together on the set and listen to the DJ, watch Greek strolls, meet new people, buy things from different vendors and just have fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Set Friday is every Friday from noon to 3 pm on the Set, which is located in the middle of the school and everyone who is not in class come out and just relax and hang out and watch Greeks step and stroll, we watch dance troupes dance to songs and do their strolls and the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes have their own strolls also. Set Friday is a time to show your talent and just have fun.
Great for these types of students FAMU is a great place for students that want to go do anything in business, science, mathematics, architecture, and performing arts.
Clubs and Activities FAMU has a club for anything, but the biggest and most viewed clubs and organizations will be the modeling troupes and all the dance groups. I love going to step and dancing shows and they are free to FAMU students.
Greek Life I love all the Greeks, i had a great pleasure of meeting different people from different sororities and fraternities. if i wanted to join a Greek it would be hard to chose because they all are good people.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Florida A&M University is a wonderful university and truly represents the title, College of Love and Charity. We are a true famuily that both loves and respects one another. It is great to know that everyone that attends is there to reach and achieve many of the same goals as you do.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you always stay on top of your academics. Though there are many things such as extracurricular activities and other social activities, remember that you came to college for an education. Talk with your professors so that you will not be a number, but a person. Teachers are very busy and have many different classes other than the ones that you will be in, be understanding but firm as well. Anything is possible. Just push yourself and keep your eyes in the prize!
Academic Rigor Many teachers will be tough on you and that is because they expect the best from you. Be prepared to work. The professors will not pass you if you do not prove yourself a hard worker. You will be given many assignments, but it is only to prepare you for your future.
Dorm Life I stayed in Truth Hall! Because FAMU is pretty much a historical landmark, the buildings can not be torn down, only renovated. It is very spacious and clean. They have cleaners come in everyday to clean the community style bathrooms. That does not mean that you don't clean up after yourself. Treat the property as you would treat your home.
Food and Dining We have a huge cafeteria, both upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs is the main cafe area where they serve different stations with different meals. Anywhere from subs, pizza, American food, to our Asian cuisine. In the bottom half, we have a Pizza Hut, Tropical Smoothie and W.O.W. wings!
What to do for fun Because Tallahassee is a college town with Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College in the area, it is plenty to do. Tallahassee mostly centers around the lifestyle of a college student. You will meet many different people from different places, go out with your friends. Dinner, movies, bowling etc.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We are a truly family atmosphere. We have many dances and events to bring together that Rattler Spirit. We have a very proud alumni base and we pride ourselves of our many accomplishments.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University is a very culturally diversity institution. Very welcoming, everyone is like one BIG family. FAMU is history on a hill!
Tips for prospective students Being that FAMU is located in a college town, surrounded by two other college/universities FSU and TCC just make sure your able to focus! Also responsibility plays a HUGEE role when coming to college, you are now responsible for everything, so make copies of all your paperwork. Attend all classes and if your having any type of issue and/or problem you can go to your teacher office hours. I highly recommend attending office hours. Teachers LOVE a student that shows effort!
Academic Rigor FAMU has gotten stricter since i have been here. They have enforce policies with such as attendance, the withdrawal policy and also the grading system. You can easily be put on academic prohibition or even worse flunk out. So be very mindful of your course selections and your ability to be focused.
Dorm Life A lot of the dormitories are undergoing reconstruction or are being remodeled. the newly remodeled dorms are very nice they come with complete with lounge areas on each floor that comes with gaming systems and computers if need. You have the option to actually live either in dorm style or apartment styled living. But its first come first serve basis so DO NOT wait until the last minute to apply for housing. There are buses that runs every 20 minutes to transport you around campus and to the campus housing. All housing also comes with resident assistance's, and an adult supervisor over each housing area. Also there is always a resident director available to issue with problem ranging from roommate issues, school or even personal life problem. Which can come in handy.
Food and Dining the food is actually really good. You are provided with a variety of selection each day. The cafeteria comes complete with a sub line, stir fry line, burger and pizza lines and also a salad and cereal bar which is provided each day. During breakfast you can have a custom made omelet that comes with any topping of your choice. Also a waffle maker is set up so you can make them to your liking! oh yeah! i cant forget the famous Fried Chicken Wednesday that alone speaks for itself. just know that they have the BEST chicken. Forewarning on Wednesday the cafeteria will be packed on these days! You also have the option to enjoy the on campus restaurants which varies from Pizza Hut to Magic Johnson Sub Connection.
What to do for fun FAMU has plenty of activities available. You have Set Friday which is a combination of music, vendors and FUNN! Also they have comedy shows, fashion shows, dance shows, ETC! There is a wide range of fun to be had. . . just dont party too hard!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Well what I found to be a little strange is that student body elections are taken VERY serious! They actually campaign as though they are real politicians.
Clubs and Activities There are PLENTY to choose from each offering something a little different from the other. There are will over 50 organizations and clubs around campus with newly formed organizations every year! They post flyers and send emails to your FAMU email keeping you posted on upcoming events, recruitment, and volunteer opportunities!
Greek Life Greek life is huge at FAMU. As you walk about the campus you will see several areas that has been marked with the organization letters. The Greeks are HIGHLY active on campus and are easily spotted.
Campus Safety After a few incidents FAMU have provided the campus with ample lighting, and organization called the Safe Team which if you call or text will come pick you and transport you around campus at night. the have the campus police posted all over campus and security officers in the library, cafeteria, and IT lounge room.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences FAMU is by far the most interesting school I have ever attended. It makes me feel as though I am a part of a huge extended family (being that I am from Miami and I am homesick). As a whole, I love it here.
Tips for prospective students Because so many things happen on campus, students must remain focused on the goal; their degree. They should join an extracurricular activity besides their studies and partake in community service.
Academic Rigor FAMU's academics are somewhat easy for me because I am a freshman and I take relatively easy classes compared to those of an upper class-man. My classes that I'll take will get more challenging, I'm sure, but I'm ready for it. Overall, the courses offered are pretty good.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences becoming a florida a&m university rattler was one of the best decisions i have ever made. i have been exposed to new cultures and have come in contact with different types of people. overall, this is a wonderful university and i encourage students to apply!
Tips for prospective students prospective students should apply for financial aid as quickly as possible. on campus housing tends to fill up fast so you should sign up asap. classes tend to fill up fast as well so you certainly should register once registration period opens....in general whenever you have to apply for something, do it as quickly as you can. get you know your professors as well. that extra visit to their office may help you in the long run in terms of you grade and recommendation letters as well.
Academic Rigor like any institution, the rigor of classes varies. it all depends on your major. i am a biology/pre-medicine student so in my opinion most courses i am taking are very rigorous and require excessive studying.
Dorm Life i've only resided in 2 dorms at famu; paddy-foote and palmetto south. my experience in paddy-foote was very interesting. i didn't like it because the rooms are very small, especially for 2 people. my sophomore and junior years i lived in palmetto south, which are the on campus apartments. i like living here because it gives you a feeling of having your own apartment. even though you have room inspections and other dorm rules apply i feel more independent living here. these apartments are equipped with a full kitchen, living room and bathrooms. you can live in a single where everyone gets their own room or a double where you will have a roommate and up to 6 people occupy one apartment. (i've lived in a double both years.)
Food and Dining although i wish there were a wider variety of restaurants available, overall i like the eating establishments on campus. students can choose their meal plan, which includes swipes for the main cafe and a limited amount of cash dollars called flex bucks. flex bucks can be used in the lower cafe where world of wings and pizza hut reside. they also can be used in the orange room, which is famu's own, where 155 degrees and magic johnson's sub connection reside. food varies in all these establishments ranging from double cheeseburgers and fries, wraps, chicken strips, pizzas, mozzarella sticks, salads and more.
What to do for fun famu: the university that never sleeps....there are a lot of things to do for fun. tallahassee is home to a variety of clubs, some of which they offer transportation to and from the club. (i.e. bajas, lit, the moon, etc) not the club type? you can always catch a house party in one of the various apartment complexes or houses close to campus. not the partying type at all? dorms sometimes host what is called a social. residents meet up to watch movies, play games and eat snacks. it's a good way to get to know the people who live around you. you and some friends can always take a trip to the mall. (my sophomore year, my friends and i had mall fridays. we went to the mall every friday after class just to walk around and enjoy each other's company.) since florida state university is right around the corner, you can always check out some of their event.s
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus campaign season is a fun time of year! you will see students everywhere with shirts, passing out buttons, flyers, etc. trying to get your vote. it's nice to join someone's campaign team and reach out to students.
Clubs and Activities famu is home to a large amount of clubs and activities. there's an organization for almost everything! i am a member of the marching 100 and a dance team...dancing is very big on campus. the different dance teams will often put on shows in lee hall auditorium, which are very fun to watch. football games are extremely fun! coming from both a band member and a student attendee point of view, i would have to say there's never a dull moment! academic organizations are very active on campus as well, and can help you gain connects with you field of study.
Greek Life famu's greek organizations are well known around campus. i am not in an organization but i do attend their events and parties. overall i always have a good time! the greek organizations are big on community service and giving back to help others. several clothing and food drives have been set up in the past.
Campus Safety emergency towers are set up around campus. in case of an emergency, you push a button which will activate an alarm and notify the police of your location...there is a service set up where students on a golf cart will give you a ride to your dorm or wherever you are trying to go on campus, especially at night. police officers are often patrolling campus as well.

Tips for prospective students i advise you to come to famu with an open heart. there will be many obstacles, you have to be strong! we are all family and will make you feel at home.
Dorm Life the worst part about college is staying in the dorms. but it taught me a lot and can do the same for you. everyone had to do it.
Food and Dining the food is good along with our campus cafeteria we also have four other places around campus to grab food. including pizza hut!
What to do for fun i like to party! this college town definitely has a lot of parties, almost every night. i also hang out with my friends at socials, clubs, greek step shows etc. there is always something to do in tallahassee. also, florida state is about 10 minutes away
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus famu has a black archives museum that is very interesting. it taught me a lot of black history that i was not aware of.
Clubs and Activities there are an endless amount of clubs to join and that is how you get known around campus. it is a must to join an organization they will always have your back!
Campus Safety we have a safe team that drives around campus at night taking people to their destinations. they make sure you make it in safely.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences florida a&m is an experience in its self. this school is not for the weak willed. you come to famu not just for an education, but also for a life experience.
Tips for prospective students make copies of everything, cause the school is still paper based and will lose your stuff from time to time. i'd advise you stay on campus and stay in the dorms for that good freshman experience
Academic Rigor i've dabbled in different majors here at famu, i would say if your a science major you pretty much will have no life, but i've seen other majors that are just as tough and not so much.
Dorm Life i lived in the dorms my freshman year. they are a little run down and sometimes the rules and ra's can be annoying, but the experience you get and the friends you make is worth staying in campus ! i met 2 of my really close friends living in the dorm(one was my former roommate) :)
Food and Dining yeah i'm gonna be honest not that much variety we have 3 places to eat, orange room, downstairs cafe, and the main cafe (upstairs). upstairs cafe is where you use your meal plans and they have fried chicken wednesday every wednesday, which always stayed packed. if your a freshman and live on campus in a dorm it is mandatory for you to get one. but if you live off campus, you'd rather get a really small one or just bring lunch, or go out to eat.
Bang for the buck do stuff at the rec center instead of joining a local gym. free group classes, spa, rock climbing, all that fun stuff !!
Campus Safety safety isn't as bad as you. think, and famu is on the south side. compared to fsu, who is right across the street, there crime rate is worse than ours. but i will say that doesn't mean walk around campus at 3:00am by yourself. the locals around tallahassee are a little crazy so just to say it is better to walk in numbers. also, famu does have a safe team that drives or walks you back to your apartment if your walking by yourself. but do beware if your by yourself on campus late, like 2:00am or 3:00am, higher possibility you'll get robbed.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences florida a&m university is a very active university. you will become involved in a lot from schoolwork to volunteer work. most of the instructors make sure you learn life lessons as well as the regular lesson during class.
Tips for prospective students this is a very active school and many things can occupy your time. make sure to choose class times that suit you. if you know you are not a morning person, stay away from morning classes because that could end up harming your gpa. have your priorities set; do not party all week forgetting about a project or paper that was due. make sure you study at least two days in advance for tests because cramming doesn't work all the time. also keep an agenda book to help you keep track of everything. you can save money by buying your books online as well. if you plan on pledging, never tell anyone. try to make friends with people in your classes and around campus because it will help you instead of being antisocial.
Academic Rigor i believe this is average and mixed. some classes will be easy. some classes will require much more work and studying. also depending on your major, you may be in the books all day or you may be able to have a lot of free time. i know the science and medical field majors seem to have students the busiest. this is not to discourage you because in the end it is worth it. just stay on top of everything.
Dorm Life some of the dorms have been renovated and they are better than before. some are still not all that good and you may not like it. the rules of the dorms are all the same unless you live in the on-campus apartments in the palmettos. in most of the dorms you will share a room with 1 or 2 people. you can always request a room change if you do not like your situation though.
Food and Dining the food is pretty good on certain days. wednesdays and fridays in the upstairs cafe are the most popular days. you will use your meals in the cafe. then you have the food court (downstairs cafe), the orange room, and the rattler's nest. those places require the use of flex bucks. you can also use cash. they have a variety of food from burgers to wraps. they also have plenty snacks.
What to do for fun there is set friday which is a little party on the set for anybody to come to. around campus there are always organizations and things to get into. there is a bowling alley and pool hall if you ever get bored and just want to play a game.
Bang for the buck at florida a&m university you do get a good bang for your buck. the tuition is lower than most other universities even though the cost is rising each year. if you receive financial aid you will be even more set.
Great for these types of students famu is great for many types of students. this is a very diverse school.
Clubs and Activities there are political orgs, dance teams, modeling troupes, greek orgs, and many other things you can join which you will have a lot of fun in. they will occupy your time.
Greek Life the greeks are all over campus. you will see there markings everywhere you go.
Campus Safety the campus is pretty safe. there are campus police. as you walk through campus there are emergency call systems posted throughout for you to press the button and report any emergencies.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i love how famu in family oriented and number one in the historical black colleges/university's in the united states. i really feel like the school should update their i-rattler system. the system is too slow and during the first day of school it is always hard to get log into.
Tips for prospective students study, study, study. be involved on campus and outside of campus. find time to balance your life as a student and everything else.
Dorm Life i never lived in a dorm before.
Food and Dining expensive at the cafeteria (food court) and too crowded. i just ended up leaving campus to buy food during my break in between class.
What to do for fun stay involved in school is pretty much it. nothing really except homecoming week.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the school is well equipped to teach students on a high level and their ability to create moments for memories are great. there should be some revamping in the area of administrative duty. however, the way that there programs are centered creates pressure for the students to learn and be ahead after gradutation.
Tips for prospective students prospective students should be as early as possible in the area of deadlines. the further you are ahead, the more prepared you will be for any issues that could arise as a result of their losing or misplacement of files or paperwork. the students and professors are great however you always want to be sure that you go in with an understanding that you are dealing with responsible and also irresponsible adults who can be unpredictable at times.
Academic Rigor i enjoy school and extracurricular activity but what is most important is to ensure your academic success so that as you are enjoying activities you can rest assured that you are up to par when the weekend ends and there is an exam.
Dorm Life did not experience too much of this life, but from the outside looking in i would say that this life can be awesome, but you have to be aware of your surroundings and signs of possible issues i.e the flu, colds, viruses, etc.
Food and Dining food at famu can be great at times, and other times it can be questionable. but overall i enjoy it because the experience in the dining hall is fascinating and enjoyable.
What to do for fun for fun i enjoy going to events listed on campus such as dance shows, and plays. i also enjoy house parties and fridays at the school where they have music and vendors who bring clothes, hats paintings, etc.
Bang for the buck vendors who bring their products for sale to the school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is an interesting focus on the band at famu and they are highly regarded on the campus and at football games, even more than the football team at times. there is also an unusual focus on clothing styles and modeling attributions.
Great for these types of students famu is great for students who enjoy high energy professors, social clubs, and those students who suffer in the area of time management because famu can be lenient as well as strict in procrastination depending on what program you are in. i would also recommend students who really can manage their time and party weekly and sometimes daily.
Clubs and Activities plenty
Greek Life awesome
Campus Safety very lit up and active with security
