    Am learning a lot

All of my teachers so far have been great! They all know what they're talking about and make sure we understand what they're talking about before moving on to something new. Even my math teacher, who tended to move a little fast, was willing to stay after class and go over anything that I didn't understand.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love Frostburg! You have wildlife, yet there are stores and restaurants right down the road. There is always something going on, and, being an RA, I spend almost all of my time here on campus, and I absolutely love it.

    Bang for the buck

I think the rooms and tuition prices are worth WAY more than we pay. The food is JUST worth the price we pay. The caf isn't the greatest, but there are other options on campus, like a sub shop, that fit in with the meal plans and cost nothing.

    Tips for prospective students

FSU is considered to be a party school, but it just depends on what sort of work ethic you have and what you want to do with your life. Every school is a party school, so don't choose a school based on its reputation but rather the education you can get out of it. There are more than a hundred things you can do just on campus that don't involve parties.

Great for these types of students

FSU is great for any student who wants a good education with a good price.

    Am learning a lot

Since I am a marketing major, I am a learning many things in class and out of class. I enjoy all of the classes and teachers that I had so far. The curriculum is great, but also challenging and makes you think and keeps your attention. The best classes i had so far have been my accounting and economics class. My advisor is a great help as well. He gave me a great bit of information dealing with my major and possible internships for the future.

    Am enjoying being here

When i first saw the campus, I fell in love with it. It is a great size and everything on campus is walking distance if you live on campus. The atmosphere is great as well as the teachers and staff. Even though there isn't many stores close by, there are a great amount of restaurants that have excellent food. Many of my classmates from high school attend this school and I enjoy hanging out with them. It makes the school life a little more fun!

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is actually a very reasonable price for a college. If you do live in Maryland it is very cheap compared to the other Maryland campus. Even though the price is lower, you still get your moneys worth in education. The food cost is a little pricey but there is a lot to choose from and all of it is very tasty.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips that I have for prospective students would be to one: don't choose a school on its reputation. Focus on academics and school work. Frostburg is known as a party school but it depends on the person. Secondly, ask around about teachers because every teacher is not the same and many have different teaching styles. Lastly, when you do attend the school try to join as many organizations as you can. The school has many activities and groups and the school is really big on diversity.

Great for these types of students

This school is really great for individuals who like a quiet and small campus and surrounding area. It does get very cold in the winter and early spring, so if you enjoy the snow this is the place to be. The community is great and the campus is just beautiful. Also ask for extra credit! 9 times out of 10 that teacher has extra points to give away!

    Am learning a lot

For this question, it really depends on what teacher you get, just like with every other college. I am a Mass Comm major and some classes you learn more than others. The strictest teachers are the best, end of story. They know what they are talking about. Those classes aren't about listening. You actually learn something.

    Am enjoying being here

I love this area. I always have. It's a quiet, sleepy little town with a great view. The Wisp is twenty minutes away, so that means easy access to snowboarding in the winter or the lake in the summer. People claim this town is boring, but they just lack imagination.

    Bang for the buck

This college isn't going to bankrupt you and you still get a Maryland State University education.

    Tips for prospective students

Dorms aren't a big hit. Most students move into their own apartment as soon as possible. Also, Greek life (sororities and fraternities) are a major part of the life at Frostburg, but do not let that pressure you into joining one if it's not for you.

Great for these types of students

This college is big on teaching and wildlife, and I would dare say, mass communications. It isn't a great idea for pre-med or pre-law students.

Attending Frostburg State University will teach you alot about yourself. You either make it or break it out here.

    Am enjoying being here

To be honest I didn't intend on attending Frostburg for more than a year but now I am staying for all four years. There is a warmth and sense of community about Frostburg.

    Bang for the buck

Bang for the buck! I love my professors and the best thing they know me on a first and last name basis. Right now Frostburg is renovating all the dorms and major buildings on-campus. Frostburg is expanding!

    Tips for prospective students

Join as many organizations as possible, it will enriching your experience, plus excellent networking opportunities.

Great for these types of students

Great for education, mass communication and law & society students. We are not known for our atheletics however. For all those interested in fashion and modeling, Frostburg has great organizations for that including Visual Couture.

    Am learning a lot

Some teachers will make you learn on your own with general guidance and others will hand you the answers that will be on the test, but you are going to learn something. Some classes you will just retain more than others. My math ad physics classes have been great at teaching.

    Am enjoying being here

When walking on campus at night you feel more at home than afraid like on some other campuses. The classes are small, the teachers are friendly, and the students are great. If that isn't enough for you the president of the school itself would love to meet you personally. I have met him on several occasions.

    Bang for the buck

This is a cheap school with amazing bonuses to it. I chose right when I decided to go to Frostburg.

    Tips for prospective students

If you can apply for the honors program, do it. It is well worth the extra work. Early registration, free event tickets, and more come with being honors. Plus the honors students are amazing to know.

Great for these types of students

Getting involved is easy, and with it being a small university you get to know most of the people who care about getting involved and helping. Being around those people similar to you is great.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at FSU are incredibly dedicated and expect the same desire and motivation from their students. Attendance is mandatory for most classes and many include the clause that if five classes are missed the student automatically receives a failing grade for that class.

    Am enjoying being here

Greek life is incredibly popular here, and though the campus is in a rural location there is a expansive variety of extracurriculars offered including rock climbing, sports, theatre, and clubs. Wisp ski and snowboarding resort is a 20 minute drive away, decent shopping is offered in LaVale and Cumberland.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition for a full year is under 10,000 if the student lives off campus and a majority of the student body does so. The Cultural Event Series also offers incredibly cheap on campus activities for students as well as Frostburg community.

    Tips for prospective students

Your academic experience is what you make of it, if you are determined to party and goof around then it matters not what school you go to as the experience will be essentially the same everywhere. In other words, don't worry about the reputation of the school you attend as your intent is more important. If your aim is to get a quality education at a great price then FSU is for you.

Great for these types of students

Those who enjoy the cold are definitely at home here as the temperature at FSU is about 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding areas. A great school for those waiting to make their mark as the campus is small enough to do so but large enough so as not to feel cramped. Also good for those who are good at finding things to do and does not require a fast paced life at all times.

Frostburg is a very nice campus that has a lot to offer! The classes are small enough to be able to know a lot of your class mates and your professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep an open mind and don't get discouraged the first year.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot of activities held on campus for students to do. Things like dances, fashion shows and other things.

Great for these types of students

Frostburg is a small school, but a great one. The smaller student body enables professors to work more with students one on one.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to the current students when you are visiting for open house, if you can. It's good to survey the people who actually attend the school who can give you an honest opinion.

    Academic Rigor

Although this is a small school, the course loads are of the average college. Freshman year is relatively easy depending on how you set up your schedule, but course work becomes more rigorous as you advance in the school.

    Dorm Life

The dorms on campus are kept pretty clean and in order. They've started renovations on campus to bring some of the older buildings into the more modern age.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria here really prides themselves on providing a variety of food for its students, and it does it well. However, this is college food so it does not always taste great. There are two other eateries on campus and the food there is pretty good. All in all the food is not that bad.

    What to do for fun

The school is located in a relatively small town, so within walking distance there are attractions on Main Street. Cumberland is the nearest city, which is only a 10-15 minute drive from the campus. There are more things to do in Cumberland, but if you don't have a car there is a free (for students) campus bus service called ACT. You'll have to transfer buses in order to get to Cumberland, but the bus drivers are really kind and helpful. The school tries to have as many events as possible to keep the students entertained, so there is usually an event going on every week. B.o.B is even coming here for a concert in May!

This school is inexpensive and provides a valuable education. Specifically, the parks and recreation management program at the satellite location of Catonsville Community College, is phenomenal and the professors are very supportive. Sometimes the administration can be a little sassy, but other than that it's great.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for slightly rude personnel, but if you are pleasant you will get the best service you possibly can.

Frostburg is a great place, the classes are a bit challenging but if you study hard you should have no problem passing. The people are very friendly, and it is easy to make new friends at Frostburg. Overall I believe that Frostburg is one of the best schools in Maryland.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not wait tell the last minute to do your work.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging but if you study hard, and see the professors after class you should pass.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great, especially if you are in a dorm with people who have the same major as you.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good, but it could be better.

    What to do for fun

For fun I usually go to the lane center on campus, there they have food and games for the students.

    Bang for the buck

It is a pretty fair cost for going to a University.

frostburg has a gorgeous campus. it's a small school so it's nice to see the same people. the campus food is good as well.

    Tips for prospective students

don't attend frostburg if you don't like cold weather. it gets snowy and windy here.

    Academic Rigor

frostburg offers a lot of different majors. the advisers that i've dealt with so far all know exactly how to help you with your schedule.

    Dorm Life

i lived in the dorms for two years. they are not bad at all. maintenance keeps the bathrooms clean. every dorm has a laundry room and kitchen.

    Food and Dining

the food is good, and there are a lot of options, but the meal plan times are confusing. if it is not a meal plan time, you have to use bonus bucks or your own money.

    What to do for fun

you can become involved in a club sport or on campus fraternity or sorority. there are always movie nights or other fun programs in our lane center.

frostburg state university is a community. despite the, lately, almost constant tragedies that have befallen it, frostburg has stood strong and pulled together rather than falling apart. if, in seeking out a college, one wishes to be part of a community rather than standing alone, frostburg is the place to go.

    Tips for prospective students

don't think that you can skate through without any effort, get involved with one of the many groups and programs on campus, and make sure that you can handle the cold!

    Academic Rigor

as an english major, i can fully support the english department. the professors really care about what they teach, and i have never left an english class feeling as though i didn't learn anything, as long as i tried my best and followed their direction. outside the english department, i have taken a few things for the general education category, and despite often not being interested in the subject matter, i always learn something to take away with me.

    Dorm Life

i have never lived with a room mate, (though i have suite mates) so i can't really give any input on this experience. however, i have lived in a dorm as well as an on-campus apartment, and both were comfortable, as quiet as can be expected, and were staffed with helpful, caring individuals.

    Food and Dining

the selection and availability of food is great - there's an all you can eat meal-plan related dining area, a specialty food area that includes taco bell, chinese food, and some of the best salads i've ever had. the staff are also some of the nicest people i've ever met, who i even talk to whenever i see them off campus!

    What to do for fun

there's always something going on at frostburg. there are parties or movies being shown in the lane center, a specialty group meeting on campus, (there's one for everybody), even trips to a close-by ski resort have popped up! i would personally recommend going to see one of the many drama performances. i have never seen a bad play at frostburg.

    Clubs and Activities

i couldn't possibly list all the clubs and activities from off the top of my head, but i would say there's something for everyone.

    Greek Life

i don't personally know anything about greek life, but they're always recruiting. it's impossible not to get involved with them unless you really desire to stay away.

    Campus Safety

the campus police are spectacular, and very quick to respond. they also send out e-mails to make sure the students stay safe and are aware of all the proper methods of doing so. they really care about the frostburg students, and i have never felt unsafe here.
