    Am learning a lot

    Georgia Tech will teach you skills for both inside and outside of the classroom. No matter what your major might be, you will be challenged to do your very best and you will learn how you operate as a student. By the end of your first year at Tech, you will have learned when you study best, how to use your time wisely, how to become more involved in your community, and how much Tech has to offer you- as long as you strive and reach out for what you desire as a student and an individual.

    Overall, I am enjoying my time at Tech. There are so many things to get involved in, whether on campus or off- campus. You are surrounded by people who have the same niche for success and achievement as you do. Georgia Tech has intramural sports, different religious groups, interest clubs, community service initiatives, exercise classes and many other activities for students to get involved in.

    The academics are indeed challenging, but do not get too consumed in your studies- make sure you take the time out for yourself and do some of the things you love and get involved early. Academics are very important, but so is your well being. Take breaks and hang out with your friends. Make sure that school is a part of your life and not all of your life.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you are interested in coming to Georgia Tech, take both the SAT and the ACT. Many people only do one or the other, but it works in students' advantage if they take both. Georgia Tech accepts both and some people might do better on one or the other.

    Make sure that you take honors, gifted or Advanced Placement classes. Georgia Tech looks for students who have already challenged themselves to do above and beyond the requirement.

    On the other hand, if you do take higher level courses in high school, make sure you maintain a grade point average that is close to Tech's standards. Do not let your grades slip, especially during your junior and senior years.

    Georgia Tech wants to know that you are a well- rounded student. Admissions wants to know not only what you can do in the classroom, but also what you can do for the world. This school is prided on research and technology that makes the world a better place. Admissions will want to see if you are involve in sports, honor societies, interest clubs, the community, your church, or in the arts.

    Last but not least, do not underestimate the power of a well- written essay. The essay is the only chance for admissions to see you as an individual. Do not take the opportunity lightly. Now that they have seen your credentials and what you have done, tell them what has driven you, why you have a desire to succeed, and why you take part in the activities you take part in. Let them know who you are as a person- not simply a piece of paper. Make sure that you stay on the topic provided and that you report to your English teacher for revising and editing.

    If you are hard working, determined, and filled with a desire succeed, then Tech is the school for you. If you can handle a challenge but you are good at seeing past minor setbacks in order to achieve future goals, then Tech is the place for you. If you are analytical and like to solve problems, then Tech is definitely the place for you. If you have agreed to most of the previous statements and you love the city of Atlanta, then find yourself on Georgia Tech's campus, because it is the school for you.

    Georgia Tech offers so many majors and degrees. Many of the professors are merited with the highest level of prestige and are more than capable of teaching you!

    The academic side to Georgia Tech is very challenging however the rest of the college life is very enjoyable. The Greek, community, sports, and overall student experience is very appealing and a lot of fun.

    Georgia Tech is constantly a top 10 National Public University and all of its engineering programs are in the top 10 as well in the country. Georgia Tech will give you a degree that rivals if not surpasses that of an Ivy League school. Also, there are many perks to being a student such as the software and technology that you are entitled to.
    Tips for prospective students

    I recommend that you take both the ACT and the SAT. Although it's not required to take both, it makes you stand out among the crowd. Also, the more community service and volunteer experience you have, the better your chances of being accepted.

    Make sure to apply as early as possible. This is the case with all colleges and universities but I can not stress this enough. Georgia Tech receives more applicants that it can handle each year so the review process is lengthy. Apply before the early deadline to guarantee a possible acceptance. Sometimes students that apply for the regular deadline don't get accepted due to the fact that too many have already been admitted. Make sure to apply via paper application as well. Online applications are less personal and can easily be overlooked.

    For those that have been accepted and are about to begin their first year, come prepared. Georgia Tech is not like high school and classes will be challenging no matter what it is. Come in with a ready attitude. You must take all classes seriously, even those that may seem less difficult.

    Georgia Tech is great for students that take their academics seriously and pride themselves on their effort. If you are someone that likes the big city life-style with a great athletic environment and hundreds of extra curricular activities than Georgia Tech is the school for you.

    Georgia Tech is a very competitive campus, as expected from a college that is ranked among the top engineering schools in the U.S. However, there is always help available, such as tutoring and extra review sessions.
    As for the instructors, professors are easy to get into touch whether in person (during office hours) or through e-mail. The Teaching Assistants who teach recitation (which are similar to review sessions) every week are definitely helpful because they explain difficult concepts thoroughly.
    Compared to other schools, Georgia Tech has a rigorous academic program and teaches you how to manage your time and study the material in different ways to gain the most from it. The students at this campus also show a serious attitude towards studying, which is always a plus point when forming study groups. Overall, Georgia Tech is academically tough, but not impossible if one is willing to make the extra effort.
    Am enjoying being here

    Located outside of Atlanta, Georgia Tech has some great places to visit such as the World of Coke, Atlantic Station, Centennial Park, Little Five Points, etc. You can definitely find something to do with friends if you look in the right places. Although, since the campus is fairly small, it is hard to find something fun to do if you are unwilling to go outside of campus. The Student Center has a small bowling alley, pool tables, and other forms of entertainment, but it's usually more fun to explore other places outside of campus.
    Make sure not to stress too much about studying and doing homework because I know some students tend to do that. Leave some time to do something fun over the weekend or a couple days of the week. It really helps release steam. Other times, you can have dinner or lunch with friends. We usually like going to Tech Square since there are some good places to eat there.
    Also, if I need to buy anything, it's always easy to do since there is a Publix close by campus. There is also a Target and Publix at Atlantic Station and there is a grocery shuttle on the weekend which can take you there.
    Finally, I also like being at Georgia Tech because there are usually various events being held around campus. There are parties, concerts, races, contests, and other fun things to do. And the football games are fun because the Georgia Tech football team has been doing well recently and there is a lot of school spirit here.

    Being an out-of-state student, Georgia Tech is a bit more expensive for me than for a Georgia resident. However, the money is definitely worth it because of the quality of its academic program and the various opportunities offered, such as the international plan or co-op plan. Georgia Tech is also generous concerning financial aid because of the various scholarships and loans it offers (directly and indirectly).
    Tips for prospective students

    1] Please learn to manage your time. There is time to study, have fun, and just relax. Make sure to not stress yourself out too much!
    2] Make sure to be involved in clubs in high school because it helps build teamwork skills needed in college. It is also good to have some leadership positions. Being active in high school tells a college that you are most likely to be an active student in college as well.
    3] Study for the SATs and ACTs. It is not necessary to take both, but I did to enforce my application. AP exams are also great opportunities for college credit and also show higher academic achievement.
    4] Be positive! Be excited! Be motivated!
    Great for these types of students

    Georgia Tech is a great place for people who work hard and prioritize their activities. These students are serious towards their studies, but also like to be involved in clubs or sports. Also, students who are looking for a life in the city or near a city will enjoy being near Atlanta.

    High academics means a lot of studying, however there are hundreds of student run organizations that make sure you don't spend every single minute of the day stuck in your room studying. You must get out and see the world, don't just stay inside and study. The trick is really learning to balance academics and fun times. If you are able to do this, you'll have a great time at Tech.

    It's definitely worth the money to come here. You are getting a great education from a well known public institution. The opportunities for research and career advancement are unmatched against any other public institution for engineering.

    If you decide to come here, be prepared to work hard. At some times I thought I couldn't possibly study anymore, yet at the same time realized that I had to. On the flip side, be prepared to have a lot of fun times as well. There are many Tech traditions that make this school unique and a great place to go to school. Also, get out once and a while. Make friends and generally be open to other ideas, traditions, and especially people. GO JACKETS!!!!!

    Studious students who also know how to have fun will really enjoy this campus the most. The campus is also right in the middle of Atlanta, GA, so coming to a big city should a desire by anyone who applies here.

    Georgia Tech is a university that will not only prepare you for tests, but prepare you for the real world. The classes are hard, especially your first year, but that is only because they are testing your abilities. The classes require a lot of critical and creative thinking. They teach you how to apply what you learn in real life settings. So not only do you learn new material, but you learn how to apply it.

    College is a lot different than high school so don't go in thinking you know how things work. It is a whole different system and it takes time to learn it to get used to it. The teachers are hard and expect a lot from you, but they are fair and very willing to help you succeed. Don't be afraid to talk to your professor. Being at Georgia Tech definitely prepares you for the working world more than anything.

    If you like being in a big city Georgia Tech is for you. It is located in the middle of Atlanta; however the campus is so beautiful that sometimes you forget you're in a big city. There is so much to do whether it’s on campus or off. Georgia Tech offers lots of different intramural sports, clubs, and religious organizations. There are also various parties, contests, and races going on all over campus. In Atlanta will you never run out of things to do. There are endless activities and places to go and see that you will keep you busy.

    An important thing about Georgia Tech is to make sure you make some time for yourself, don’t get too wrapped up in all the studying. Even though Georgia Tech is one of the more difficult schools academically, there is a great social life here. The trick is to maintain a balance between extracurricular activities and school work.

    Georgia Tech is ranked 7th out of the National Public Universities. It will definitely give you an education equal to, if not better than, an ivy league school. The quality of education you get at Georgia Tech is one of the best in the country. Being an out of state student Georgia Tech is a bit more expensive for me. However, Georgia Tech teaches you so many life skills it is worth the extra money. Also there are many scholarships to apply for that can reduce the cost of tuition. Georgia Tech is definitely a bang for the buck!
    Tips for prospective students

    Before Getting to Georgia Tech:
    Take both the ACT and SAT. Some students do better on one or the other and Georgia Tech will combine and convert your scores on both tests to give you the best score possible.

    Take as many AP and dual enrollment credits as possible. There are several “weed out” classes as they say, and it helps if you get credit for those classes from high school or a community college. It also puts you ahead of most students and shows admissions that you know how to succeed in a difficult classroom environment.

    It’s not all about GPA and test scores. Georgia Tech is looking for a well-rounded student that will succeed in their environment. They want someone who is different and will add something to the university.

    Make sure you apply early decision! As this is the case with most universities it is very important. You will have a better chance of getting accepted. Sometimes students who don’t apply early decision don’t get accepted because too many students have already been admitted.

    After You’ve Been Accepted:
    Be prepared to work hard and to challenge yourself. College is nothing like high school, it is very different and takes some getting used to. Don’t come thinking you know how to study and how to get all A’s. Georgia Tech has some of the best students in the country. Even though in high school you may have been the smartest one there, you are now with students who were also the smartest in their class.

    Learn how to manage your time. It is very important that you take all your classes seriously, even the ones that seem less difficult. They will be challenging and it is important that you know how to study and not to procrastinate.

    Get involved! There are so many clubs and organizations on campus that one of them will catch your eye. It is vital that you have something to do outside of studying. However, don’t get too involved because you might get overwhelmed. Find a balance between studying and extracurricular activities. It is important to make friends, they are the ones who will get you through the tough times when you think you can’t possibly study anymore. Be outgoing and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. The people on campus are friendly and it can’t hurt to have too many friends, it will make your time at Tech more enjoyable.

    Most important of all, don’t ever give up! There are going to be times when you feel like your brain will explode and you just can’t take anymore. Keep pressing on! You will be able to get through whatever difficult things await you, if you couldn’t admissions wouldn’t have picked you to represent Georgia Tech. Believe in yourself and study hard, but let yourself take a break every now and then, it’s good for you.

    If you are hardworking, determined, and have a great desire to succeed in life, Tech is one of the best schools you could go to. It will challenge you every moment you are there, but it’s all worth it in the end. Aside from the academics most Georgia Tech students know how to have fun, whether it’s with an intramural sports team, in Greek life, or getting involved in a different club or organization. Georgia Tech is also a great school for those people who like the big city life-style. With an endless sea of activities surrounding you, you will never be bored. If you are the kind of person that knows how to work hard but still have fun Georgia Tech is for you.

    I don't know what to say in three sentences, there is a lot. It's mostly about the workload though. It's certainly a great school and if you're smart, studious, have a great work ethic, (and don't get into MIT), this is the right place.

    Don't get overwhelmed by the work, there is a lot. Stay on top of your game and don't fall behind.

    They have programs for Freshman that are always entertaining, and brand new (relatively) West Campus dorms that were built for the 1996 Olympians.

    The dining halls just got renovated this year and there's a new one on campus that always has different options for all kinds of diets.

    They have a club for everything. EVERYTHING.

    The GTPD are always strollin' around and doing work. They are constantly implementing new programs and ways to keep us safe including the new Jacket Guardians phone app. The campus feels like a bubble, protected from the dangers of Midtown Atlanta.

    Am learning a lot

    At Georgia Tech, the faculty takes pride in testing you on all possible knowledge you will obtain in their courses, which is safe to will be quite overwhelming to some, and a hassle for most. I myself am now a second year engineering student, and all I can say is you better be able to read high volumes of information through textbooks, or online course literature, and take detailed, accurate notes in your courses lectures, recitations, and review sessions on a daily basis. In my first semester, in macro-economics we covered all 27 chapters in a span of 16 weeks, and we met only twice a week. Taking out 5 days to due to first day introductions, 2 exams, the final, an Thanksgiving, that left you with covering and learning a chapter a day in an hour and half lecture time, and economics is one of the easier classes provided. I didn't say that to scare anyone, I am being honest, you will be expected to learn a huge amount of information. Another example is second semester I had computer science for engineers, now we met three days a week, for an hour and there was only 16 chapters in the book. However, computer science, without some prior experience is equivalent to a different language, but by the end of those 16 weeks, I was fluent in programming and even thought about aspects in life in a programming state of mind. It's not just information, it's different methods of thinking you will also obtain through understanding of the information and experience in the course, or wider field. The good thing about GT is that the harder the course the more help there is provided typically, if you know where to look and know how to use it. I have learned so much in a year plus, through courses at GT that, it's surprising to talk to people from other universities, who are second year and even some third year, that haven't covered material to the same degree or at all that they do at GT.
    Am enjoying being here

    The location of Georgia Tech is in the heart of downtown Atlanta, where there is many things to do and places to go within walking distance of campus. If there is anything or anyplace you want to go farther away from campus, you can get a discount voucher from the student center for a MARTA pass or simply drive or bike there. On campus many activities start at the previously mentioned student center, which is the main crossroads of campus. There is a gaming center, featuring bowling, pool, video games, and karaoke. The student center also houses cultural festivals and movie showings outside when weather permits and inside all year. Next door to the student center, is the Ferst Theater, which showcases everything from musicians, comedians, important speakers, and on-campus play productions. Take a quick jog from there to the west side of campus, where you will see what was the main reason for the recent number 1 ranking in the nation, according to the Princeton Review, in athletic facilities, the Campus Recreation Center. The CRC is 5 stories tall, 150+ yards wide and 500+ yards long, it holds weight, and cardio equipment on the first and fifth floors, a quarter mile indoor track on the fifth floor, 6 basketball courts, 5 large cardio studios, an indoor soccer court an Olympic swimming pool and high dive, and an indoor water park with Jacuzzis. The CRC offers many dance, martial arts, and fitness classes as well. Right outside and next to the CRC is the nation's largest piece of artificial turf, the SAC Field. 100 yards across and 600 yards long The SAC Field is home to outdoor soccer, flag and touch football, rugby, ultimate Frisbee, and cricket. The only thing that prevents this from being a 5 is that I, like most people at GT, spent all my waking time usually in class, doing homework, or studying.

    I am an out of state student from TN, and have to pay $35,000 plus a year for tuition, so I am going to say regardless that is a large amount of money to pay. However, if you are willing to sacrifice that much money, you are well off financially, or you have a lot of financial aid, Georgia Tech is a great place to attend based on academics, future employment opportunities, and leisure activities.
    Tips for prospective students

    Sleep enough, it can be the difference between a B average or a C average. You need at least 8 to 9 hours of a sleep, unfortunately, you will live on 6 hours at the most. You need those 6 to attend and stay awake in lectures, recitations, and review sessions.
    If by chance you do miss a lecture, recitation, or review mostly everything is online via Buzzport, GT's online student website, and mainly T-Square, the student course portion of Buzzport, and if it happens to not be on there, which is a rarity you can contact your course TA, or attend your professor's or lecturer's office hours, and ask them to cover something you missed or didn't pick-up on. If all else fails you can simply ask a fellow classmate or any upperclassmen, as chances are they have taken the exact same class.

    Georgia Tech is great for students who want to push themselves to the limit, and become something more than what they currently are, because if you can survive Tech, you can survive and usually thrive in whatever career you may eventually undertake.

    Am learning a lot

    I have been pushed in all of my classes since becoming enrolled. The professors assign homework and tests that really push you to study immensely. I feel like the professors really know how to challenge kids, and get them to learn. For example, it took me a semester to develop my skills, but I am now fairly fluent in the computer language MATLAB. It may sound scary, learning computer programming and calculus 2, but with the time you put into your studies to make the grades, you'll find you learn a TON here.

    I fell in love with Tech before I even was enrolled. All the students at the school work just as hard as you do, and are willing to put in just as much effort as you are into projects and studying, quite a change from the high school atmosphere where you're used to being known as the over-achiever. Here we're all overachievers, and all hard-workers. I love the study atmosphere, and the attitude of students outside of the classroom and the library. Everyone meshes really well here because we're all like-minded and hardworking students, who love having fun on the weekends and studying late into the night on weekdays.

    It's been listed at one of the top 10 public schools in the nation. Most interviewers who see Georgia Tech listed as the college attended on a student's resume automatically give a huge amount of credit and respect to the applicant. The grade point averages are a bit lower here because the classes are so much more difficult, but it makes real-world problems that much easier when you've been pushed so hard through college.

    Know that if Georgia Tech accepted you, they know you are worthy of the academic rigor at the school. They accepted you knowing that you would be challenged, but they saw your hard work ethic in your application and knew you would succeed. Georgia Tech is going to be tough, but the friendships you make, the academic respect you gain, and the knowledge you earn make it worth the challenge. I can't believe I even considered other schools when applying and making my decision.

    Anyone who is up to a challenge, and creative in their ways of getting help is a great fit. On top of that, Tech does have a great social aspect to it. As students, we work hard and get to let loose on the weekends with our closest friends in the great city of Atlanta. If you are someone who works hard and enjoys being pushed, but still can balance a social life and some hobbies like community service or music with it then Tech is the place for you.

    Ga Tech is an incredibly rigorous university and often makes students go crazy with its' academics, and now you're probably wondering why anyone would want to go to a college that drives students crazy and I will let you in on the secret, I along with every student at Ga Tech knows 2 things for sure, that we are learning an exceptional amount of information that we didn't even think we were capable of, and that once we graduate with a degree from this school it will all be worth it because having a GA Tech degree opens up many opportunities. Yes, this school is difficult but it's the price you pay to get an incredible education. There are such a vast array of different types of majors offered here and even though it is one of the top engineering schools in the nation, there are also wonderful Business and Liberal Arts programs.

    If you were to ever visit the campus you would probably hear a lot of complaining from students about work load, and grades, and tests, but you could also ask any one of those students if they would rather be at any other school and most of them would say no. Sure the academics are tough but there is so much on campus to help you unwind after a tough week, like the Campus Recreation Center which is AMAZING, or the hundreds of different clubs and sorority/fraternities, or even Tech Rec which is fully equipped with a bowling alley and tons of other games and things for entertainment. Mosy students at Tech truly do enjoy being there.

    Well since I am an in-state student and a receive of the HOPE Scholarship that Ga provides I pay next to nothing to attend this amazing school. but I also know many people that go here from out of state and compared to other academically acclaimed schools I hear that ours is very reasonable with fees and tuition, and they provide great financial aid.

    My tips to prospective students would be to:
    -Score well on the SAT and ACT
    -Be a well rounded student and take your time on you application
    -Make sure that you are prepared to go to a difficult school
    -Keep your grades up in High School and try to do things outside of school that will get you noticed.
    -If you are looking to transfer make sure that you take classes that are elligible as transfer credits

    Ga Tech is great for students that want to live in the city because it is in the best part of Atlanta, Midtown. It is also a good place for students that want to meet lots of new people and be around tons of diversity. This school is good students that take great pride in their education and that are competitive and driven. It is also a great place for students that want to find new passions because there are tons of extra curricular activities to get involved in.

    Georgia Tech has a rigorous course load because it is a technical school, where a majority of the majors are of course engineering programs. Students who wish to go here have to understand that it will be very different than learning in high school, because it's a lot more material at a faster pace. You may not know it at first, but you learn a lot of material once you're done with your classes.

    The best part of this school, is that its campus is in Midtown Atlanta. I'm originally from New York City and I love the atmosphere. If nothing's going on on campus, which is actually quite rare, you could venture out a few blocks and explore the city, which is always fun for me personally.

    Since it's a public school, the tuition is cheaper than most. Plus, if you're a GA resident, than you're probably getting the HOPE scholarship, which already pays for tuition and fees if you have a 3.0 or greater as your GPA. You're learning from the best people in their respective fields without having to pay ivy league prices. It's definitely the best bang for your buck.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you come here, don't get lost in your work. A lot of people meet their best of friends in college, but in order to that you have to stay active. I know the academic side can be difficult, but don't be afraid to join a club you're really interested in. Don't be afraid to leave campus and go to Centennial Park or go to that one restaurant you've great things about. Be prepared to balance work and play like you've never experienced it before.

    This school is great for the future doctors, high-up managers, and engineers of our society. If you're more of a liberal arts person, than this school may not be for you because even with the English majors, science and media is very prevalent in the course material.

    What I've noticed about Tech is that the students here are genuinely interested in learning and that the professors genuinely enjoy what they teach. If I want to meet with a professor to further investigate a topic or to merely ask a simple question, they do whatever they can to meet with me in their busy schedules or to respond to any questions I ask in emails as soon as they possibly can. There are also Teaching Assistants (TA's) for almost every course. It depends on the TA, but I've found that most tend to be helpful and are usually more readily available and respond quicker if I have a question or are confused about something. Because of its rigorous academics, Georgia Tech also provides many opportunities for students to learn outside of the classroom, such as tutoring programs, and the professors even hold review sessions concerning the current week's new material.

    Outside the academic arena, I've also learned a lot from the people around me, may it be my friends or just strangers I hold short conversations with on the bus. I pick up tips about practically EVERYTHING, from tips on places I should definitely eat at, tips on how to study for a class, and tips on how to get the most out of my money. The people around you serve as some of the greatest life lessons you can ever know, and they can even help you with your studies!

    Tech has an intense balance between academics and having a good time. Some people criticize it, claiming it’s too much work and no play. However, that opinion depends on each person and how he or she made of his or her time at the school. There’s a saying Tech students like to respond back with, and it’s that Tech students may study hard, but they also know how to play hard, too.

    There are an endless number of options of what else I can do to fill the day, day or night, no matter what day of the week. There’s Tech Rec, which has the school’s own air hockey, pool tables, and even bowling alley, and Atlantic Station, which is about 15 minutes off campus with its multitude of stores, restaurants, and movie theater. I attended high school in a small rural town, so it's a new, yet welcoming aspect to be able to have so many different kinds of people and different cultures so readily accessible to experience for myself for once. Different ethnic clubs host dances, parties, festivals, and cook outs where you can eat food from different parts of the world and learn new dances to different kinds of music. You don’t necessarily have to go out to have a good time, either. I’ve met so many great people with so many different experiences and perspectives. Sometimes I have a blast with my friends just sitting around talking, having a ‘Friends’ marathon, and passing around a bowl of popcorn.

    Students from all over the world come to Tech, and for many, Tech is their dream school. Knowing this, it made me appreciate how lucky I was to be able to attend such a highly revered school without having to board a plane. As a senior in high school, my list of prospective colleges and universities consisted of nothing but private schools, even those of the Ivy League. I was super iffy about even the thought of attending a public school because I thought private schools were better. Never did I even think I would be attending to Georgia Tech. But looking back on my first semester here, I don’t regret attending here and I wouldn’t go back. It really depends on each person, because for some, Tech genuinely may not be where they fit in the best or feel most at home. However, what I CAN say is to give this school a chance. As hard as it may be, don’t be discouraged by what others say. As an in-state student, I don’t have to pay as much as out-of-state students and even foreigner students do, but even they will tell you that it’s worth the money. Tech may not exactly be a student’s dream party school; however, the money you pay will be worth spent because you’ll be paying for a school that will do its best to offer you ways to help you to succeed. It’s just up to you take up on those chances.

    The next few things I’m about to say are what I believe to be important, because not only will they help those interested in or planning on attending Tech, but they may also help those who change their mind and end up elsewhere.

    #1. One of the greatest struggles I had to fight was whether or not to hang out with my buddies whenever they came knocking at my door. Think about it this way: if you wasted a bunch of time procrastinating, then you have to sacrifice your “fun” time with studying. Which brings me to my next point.

    #2. Don’t fall to temptation. Despite how much you love your friends, don’t listen to them no matter how much they push you “take a break.” After all, you know yourself best, and it’s up to you to decide for yourself whether you need those extra hours to study or not. Remember that people learn at different paces, so just because your friend feels prepared doesn’t mean you should feel pressured to, too. Don’t feel “nerdy” just because you feel like you have to hit the books more than others.

    #3. Go to class, and don’t fall behind. Short story: just go to class, because in all honesty, the two are tied together. I didn’t attend certain lectures sometimes because I felt like I didn’t learn anything while sitting there. So what’s the point, right? I might as well spend that time “wisely” by studying on my own. However, you may (and most likely) spend more time sleeping in (like I did) than you do studying like you may have planned to. In the end, you fall behind and you even start lacking the self motivation that pushes you to go to class in the first place.

    Tech is a great place for students who are genuinely interested in learning and want to make something of themselves. Many of the people you meet are so determined. My first semester into college, I wasn’t completely sure if I wanted to stick with my major, and I even ended up switching. Although a lot of other freshman I met may have been unsure of themselves as well, they were still motivated in succeeding and doing something with their lives. If you have goals, then Tech will help you get there. And while your goals here may slowly end up changing, you’ll find ways at Tech that will still support those newfound dreams.

    Georgia Tech is known primarily for its intense focus on the mathematics and sciences. However, I feel one of the greatest programs Tech has to offer is the International Program (IP), a study abroad program. In fact, I know a multitude of students who enrolled in Tech merely because of this program. Personally, I’m in favor of any study abroad program. After all, who has ever come back from studying abroad and said they ever hated it? I feel the IP is specifically great because it’s capable of suiting to any student with any major and any interests. So if you’re interested in a great study abroad program, then Tech is for you!

    If you’ve studied properly as a high school student, then you’ll do fine at Tech as long as you don’t lose that mindset and study even harder. The majority of the students at Tech are studious and care immensely about their grades, making the school even more competitive once you enroll. However, if you’re looking for a school that will broaden your mind, not just academically but also socially, then Tech is for you!

    Definitely! I've learned 3 different programming languages in three semesters, as well as information that I'll likely be using throughout my career. However, you have to get past the weed-out classes, like Calculus, which more or less force you to ride the curve.

    Of course! Tech is an amazing school for finding people you can relate to. There are hundreds of extracurriculars, a thriving Greek community, plenty of activities planned specifically so that students can take study breaks, and people that are interested in the same things you are!

    Tech can be pretty pricey, with each semester costing around $16000, depending on your course load, financial aid, etc. However, the professors that you get are top researchers in their field that know what they are talking about. In fact, one of my professors actually wrote the text book that was required for class this semester.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get the highest grade that you can on your SAT. Retake it if you think you can do better. AP, Honors, or IB will all help your application stand out, but keep in mind that most people applying will also have those classes listed. Think about extracurriculars, volunteering, and leadership positions; these are all very important at Tech!

    Tech was always explained to me as a mental boot camp; I can now vouch for that title. I cannot emphasize enough that Tech is NOT a party school; all-night study sessions are a way of life here. You have to come to Tech ready to work, or you will fail out your first year. That's just how this school operates.

The coursework is difficult and time-consuming, which is good in the sense that you'll learn excellent time management techniques and by graduation, you'll be able to solve just about every problem. They say your career will never be as hard as your time at Georgia Tech.

    Attending this school is a lot of work but...it's good for you i guess. There are a lot of things you can do here to take your mind off the workload, such as a huge variety of clubs and activities. I am currently a member of the Georgia Tech Rugby Club, which is a lot of fun and is a great way to take my mind off the difficult workload.

    This school is probably the best value for students living in Georgia, the in-state tuition is not that bad (around $2,400 per semester) and is widely recognized as a prestigious engineering institute. A degree from Georgia Tech will go a long way.

    I have found my home away from home at Georgia Tech. I am a Computer Science major. The College of Computing has such a wonderful sense of community. They are my family here at Georgia Tech. We are always working on projects we create outside of class. We challenge each other to be the best at what we do. We spend practically every waking hour in the organizations room where we study together and create apps and various other amazing feats of computing programming. I liken us to the movie X Men Origins. We are a family with many talents. We bring out the best in each other, and together or apart, what we are learning here at Georgia Tech will enable us to achieve awesome things.

However, Georgia Tech provides the resources and challenges that allow any student to thrive, but be constantly on his or her toes. It is not a school for people who want to slack off and you must work for success, but the success you will receive is plentiful and bountiful.

    Delve into aspects of your major before entering college, whether it be learning a programming language or gaining an interest in vehicles and their parts. You need to be able to teach yourself just as well as your favorite high school teacher was able to teach you.

    It's not easy. At one point in Georgia Tech history, during freshman orientation, they would once say, Look to your left. Now look to your right. You probably won't see those two people at graduation.

    They have renovated the dorms greatly and most of them are in great shape. I personally never had any problems with bugs or rodents, and some of my new friends are from my hallway. West campus housing is cleaner than East, but East campus is where all of the parties are.

    Brittain, Woodruff, and North Avenue are the three dining halls, and they do a fair enough job with cooking, but like any restaurant, if you go constantly, you will get tired of the food. No foodborne illnesses though!
    What to do for fun

    Tech does a good job of keeping its students entertained with gamefests, petting zoos, trips to the aquarium, and more. However, if there is nothing to do, there is Atlantic Station to visit, and if you want to go farther, you can easily drive to the heart of Atlanta itself.

    There is no doubt that an education at Tech will provide the skills and mindset for a successful job, especially if you are able to get ahold of an internship or a co-op (great programs). Some people graduate and are immediately hired, which is the prime purpose for graduating college, right?

    Nerdy kids. There are no end to them here, and it's actually a great thing. It makes competition very high, but life enjoyable because many students of the same intelligence are gathered. Often times, you will meet kids who are very smart, but slightly lazy, giving them procrastinating and fun-loving people that are easy to get along with.

    I have not participated in many of the clubs myself, but there are clubs for everyone and they are very easy to join. In general, many are very accepting and I have never heard of an elitist club. At Tech, school is hard and the people who join clubs just want to let off steam and have fun.

    There are many, many fraternities and sororities. They are generally existent to party, but they dedicate their resources to helping students achieve as well.
    Campus Safety

    Although we are close to Atlanta, the GTPD (Georgia Tech Police Department) do a fine job on patrolling and notifying students when there is a crime.

    Georgia Tech is by far the hardest school in the state, but it is also one of the most prestigious schools in the southeast. All of the classes you take will be applicable later on in your major classes, and that is the best thing about the difficulty of the classes.
    Dorm Life

    Almost all freshmen live in the dorms the first year. The community is amazing and the Resident Advisers are chosen through a rigorous selection process. There are an incredible amount of organized events around the dorms to get freshmen together and interacting. You are bound to make dozens of friends in the first few days living in the dorms, and some of those friends will last a lifetime.

    The food at the dining halls is amazing. I ate dining hall food every day and never ever got sick of it. There are so many options to choose from at the buffets and there is something for every type of picky eater. Not only are the dining halls amazing, but the meal plans come with some money to spend on the restaurants around campus. There are so many great restaurants to choose from around campus, including most major fast food stores and the food court has restaurants serving food from around the globe.
    What to do for fun

    Georgia Tech is in the middle of Atlanta, one of the largest cities in The South. There are so many things to do in Atlanta within walking range. The Phillips Arena, where many large concerts are held along with the Atlanta Hawks basketball games and many theater shows, is a ten minute walk from campus. The World of Coke and The Georgia Aquarium are also a ten minute walk and offer plenty of fun. The sporting events held on campus are also a blast, and most games are free to attend for students.

    Best post-grad hire rate, many companies hire exclusively from GT. Great campus life rich in tradition. Many buildings on campus are getting upgrades and the new facilities on campus are state of the art.

    Georgia Tech academics are difficult and you will need to spend much more time studying than you did in high school. Be ready to be humbled, many other students did just as well if not better than you in high school, and will compete with you for top scores. Be willing to put in extra effort for the next four years.

    Classes are tough, there is no such thing as an 'easy' class at Tech. Professors are demanding but often make exceptions for poor scores if you actively seek their help and put in ample effort.
    Dorm Life

    Freshman dorms on west campus are larger and have better facilities, but are far from the center of campus. East campus is close to greek row, most classes, and the stadium, but date back to the 50's. Peer leaders plan events for freshmen and offer counseling. There is always an RA on duty in case of emergency or lockout.

    The new North Avenue dining hall is open 24 hours M-Th but closed on weekends. The food there is good, but the menu rarely changes. Woody's on west campus has the best variety of food and rotating menu. Brittain on East campus doesn't have the best food but does cater to many ethnicities (vegetarian, religious holidays, etc)
    What to do for fun

    GT is close to many concert venues and is right by Centennial Park where the Aquarium and World of Coke are. GT puts on events such as homecoming and I <3 GT week that offer free food and entertainment. The student center screens movies and has events such as midnight breakfast. There's always something going on and the events are always well advertised.

    The best value for the education you are getting. A GT degree speaks volumes.

    The T-Book has all traditions and is given to you upon orientation. It is suggested that freshmen read through them and attempt to see/complete all traditions. Freshmen are also given RAT caps (recently acquired tech students) and the marching band still practices mandatory wearing of the caps for freshmen.

    Studious, involved students will thrive here. You must have a good worth ethic and time management skills.

    georgia tech is the go to school for engineering. the college, as a whole, is very geared towards science, math and technology. if you're looking for an artsy school that foster creativity and keeps continual one on one contact with its students, run away.

    in a nutshell, georgia institute of technology is a fantastic college for students looking to become strong candidates in the research and business industry. the standard is set high for their students, yet the institute provides encouragement and aide in assisting the student to achieve their goal. every school has pros and cons, yet georgia tech has a heavier weight on the pros as far as allowing the students to be successful in their careers.

    if you are thinking of enrolling in georgia tech, be sure to think about what you are interested in studying. although you do not have to declare your major early, there are many advantages in knowing your general direction of interest. georgia tech is difficult as far as class rigor, but the classes are not impossible.

    living in atlanta, ga can be both fun and constricting. if a car is accessible, there are many options of entertainment in and near downtown atlanta. on campus, there are plenty of clubs and organizations to become involved in.

    greek life at tech is a fun experience, yet not overwhelming. the campus is around 30-40% greek, so there is no pressure to be involved. but going greek is a great way to become involved on campus.

    Georgia Tech is certainly and very challenging school and requires much dedication and hard work. This said, this creates a competitive atmosphere where students really strive to learn the most that they can to further themselves in their college education.

    Tech traditions are awesome to say the least. From football games to midnight breakfast during finals week, there are many events that I have attended that all students even from previous generations of alumni can partake in and feel like a community.

    With its rankings consistently being in the top 10, plenty of opportunities to get involved in undergraduate research, internships, and co-ops graduating from Georgia Tech is well worth the money especially if you are an in state student.

    For getting in: maintain your GPA, use SAT/ACT study books to do well on these tests as the average scores are quite high

    Once you're in: Keep working at it! Find something you are passionate about

    Engineering majors for sure, science research is also great, psychology majors interested in the aging process will also be in great place with plenty of the technology useful for these applications

    Georgia Tech is widely known for their academics, and there's a reason why. Every course I have taken has been quite challenging (even marching band), but each has taught me valuable information that I will continue to use throughout my college career. Lectures tend to be large but very informative. Since larger lectures are broken into recitation classes, all students are able to get individual attention.
    Am enjoying being here

    Personally, I am not enjoying my time here. I have realized that a military college is more of my style, and I do plan to transfer after my spring semester. However, if you love the city, Georgia Tech is located in the heart of Atlanta. There is a ton to do on campus, like intramurals and hundreds of clubs and activities. The surrounding city has tons of great restaurants and malls. MARTA is located right off campus, so the city is practically limitless. However, once you leave campus, you're on your own; Atlanta is dangerous.

    College is expensive. I have in-state tuition, so my costs are less than others. However, housing is the same for all, and it is ridiculously priced. Freshman dorms are absolutely terrible and are extremely overpriced. But the amount you pay for tuition is definitely worth it.

    1. Make sure you have a strong work ethic. Georgia Tech is not for academically-lazy students.
    2. Have a bangin' resume. Test scores and class rank are important factors, but if you did not participate in sports, clubs, or volunteer service, you don't have much of a chance.
    3. Take both the SAT and ACT. Also, take some of the Subject Tests. Those always look good.
    4. Don't slack off your senior year, plain and simple.

    Am learning a lot

    Georgia Tech is definitely a top-notch school. I've learned more in this semester academically than I have in all of high-school. More importantly, I've learned more about myself. This school is nationally known for its difficulty in the Engineering fields and as a Civil Engineering major myself, I completely agree with the rumors. Yet, with all its hardness, I've learned that I'm stronger and that I can handle more than I imagined. It is a challenging course load but it is worth it. Tech has taught me how to be an engineer, how manage time, and how to enjoy learning overall.

    I am loving my time at Georgia Tech. My best advice is to join a sport. I jumped right into the Crew team. The team took me in and now I am fit and my stress levels are low. With the high intensity homework load, a stress reliever is definitely necessary. Along with our amazing sports teams, we have the entire city of Atlanta to enjoy. Good food, good friends, good times.

    As an out-of-state student paying for college completely on my own, I have to say that money matters a lot to me. Making sure that money is not wasted is a top priority. So far, the schooling has been my money's worth, the friendships and memories are priceless.

    Very expensive for out of state students and textbooks are ridiculous. Textbooks run $400-700 a semester at the book store and $200-500 if you buy them used online.

    I took five classes for my Freshman Fall semester to a total of 17 credit-hours. To say the least, it was a lot of work, but I definitely learned more here than I ever could have imagined. The professors are absolutely engaging and very interactive, always willing to help students individually even in these larger classes.

    I have to admit being a bit biased as Tech has been my dream school for some years, but it has not let me down. The people here are extremely kind and polite, the professors are capable and engaging, and there's never a shortage of things to do either on campus or in the Atlanta area. The Tech populus is diverse, open-minded, and highly innovative.

    Tech, admittedly, is a bit expensive. There is definitely a bill that comes with attending this school, but with the loyalty they have to their students it's worth it. I believe I'm receiving a high-quality education and making a number of long-lasting friendships.     Be prepared to put forth plenty of effort and work. The first semester is one of the most difficult. Nearly all of the classes in the Freshman term are for weeding out the people who are not prepared to be diligent and manage their time. But, mind, you don't have to be the perfect student, or the perfect thinker. Tech puts forth numerous opportunities to help its students and they are not looking for perfect students. Tech looks for people who are interested in their subject matter and who want to learn.

    To start really basic, Tech is great for the nerdy kid (like myself) who has always had an interest in almost any kind of science. To survive at Tech, you need a strong work ethic, time management skills, and the ability to balance the various responsibilities of becoming an adult. Tech isn't all work, though. It's important that students also be able to relax and enjoy their time and friends at Tech. The most important skill to have is being able to manage the so-called College Triangle, so that you can have sleep, socialization, and achievement while at Tech.

    It is a big change going from a small, spread out town in the mountains to a large city. I love it, though! The campus is so big, yet it's so small. Everything is within walking distance and they make sure it always looks so beautiful!

    I am actually attending Tech for completely FREE. They have a scholarship called the Tech Promise for accepted students with a great financial need. I get to go to Tech for 8 semesters (4 years) for free. It's not a loan, and I won't owe the college anything. The only thing I have had to pay for is books, off campus food, and laundry.

    Go here. You will love it. Just know the best way to study. It's a different universe than high school.

    There is a plethora of opportunities to learn and expand your horizons here. The research facilities are amazing. The number of undergraduate research projects, overseas study opportunities, and special community service projects guarantee you are able to apply in the real world what is delivered in the classroom through books, lecture, and labs.
