    Will learn a lot

I've only talk to a few professors, but i have already learned a lot.

    Will enjoy being here

The campus itself is just absolutely beautiful! The best I've ever seen.

    Bang for the buck

Large school, small feel. All the benefits of large school but you still get one on one attention with your professors. And the town thrives off Georgia Southern so the townspeople are always throwing parties and such for Ga. south.

    Tips for prospective students

Just try to have your future mapped out if you don't already the counselors are more than willing to help. I don't know about anyone else but my high school counselors were horrible. but at Ga. South. your personal counselor is there to help you

Great for these types of students

Research, music, arts, and business...although i am majoring in criminal justice/justice studies, which is also a great major there

    Tips for prospective students

I love Georgia Southern! I come from metro Atlanta and I love being where I can retreat to the out doors. The campus is so beautiful and peaceful. It is very diverse in its students and always has something going on for students to do. I just finished my freshman year and I lived in a traditional dorm on campus and I would never trade that first year experience for anything! It was a lot of fun and you walk away with a lot of friend who live on your hall. Yes, it can be loud at times but simply ask people to quiet down and it is usually not a problem. I am involved with GSU Adrenaline Show Choir. It is a blast! Getting involved with some sort of club or activity is a great way to stay focused and really find some great people you can meet with. Southern has the biggest Recreation Center in the south. It is a great place to get out some steam if thats what you do when you work out. It also has two pools and hot tubs (indoor and outdoor) with a sauna. There are also great classes that you can take like yoga (my favorite!) to aerobics to self defense. It is always great for you mind and body to relax and do something for your self. So pick different things to try out and find your favorite! If you are into religion there are many different groups on campus to get involved with! Ask questions and find the one that interests you. I am involved with Campus Outreach witch I really love. As for classes yes some can be very difficult and some teachers are very picky and set in their ways. I suggest you research your teachers on ratemyprofessor.com before you register for their class. If stuck with a teacher that might be a little harder then you would like, make your presence known. Ask for help, they are teachers they want to help you I promise! Just don't wait till late in the semester to ask for help. Go right away!

Great for these types of students

Georgia Southern is great for students who love the out doors. Wether it is out door activities or simply enjoying reading a book by one of the ponds we have on campus. Students who like getting involved with school functions or volunteer activities it's a great place for you. There is always a sign somewhere asking for people to help with activities. Southern is also great for students who enjoy the night life. Just make sure it doesn't interfere with your class work.

The curriculum and academics have improved dramatically over the last few years. Some of the best professors in the country are bringing years of real world experience to a school where classes are small enough to be very personable. Instructors and students are able to connect better and have greater ease staying in touch. Degrees range from Nursing, to Fine Arts, to Education, to Political Science, even to Engineering. Internships are always available to those who want to get their feet wet. The campus is also getting the latest technology and equipment to prepare students. For example, the library has been completely rebuilt, and can accomidate thousands of students at a time. They've updated their books and databases, and brand new computers are available. The Center for Arts and Theater is brand new, and has a cool Black Box Theater. This new addition has broadened the horizons for the Drama Department, and anyone interested in performing arts would have a blast.

    Am enjoying being here

Georgia Southern offers an easier transition out of high school than most colleges. The campus is small enough to where you see the new friends you make fairly frequently, yet you meet new people everyday. The athletic excellence (6 national championships in 1-AA football) provides contagious school pride, and brings a big school environment to a small town. Opportunities to excel are everywhere. When applying for a position on campus, you might be 1/50 applying for a spot instead of 1/200 like at bigger schools. Statesboro is also a great city with a small town, southern feeling.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely more affordable than a lot of schools, and there are numerous scholarships through the university. Once again, it may be easier to stand out, or get an internship here because you won't have to compete with as many people for the same spot. Therefore, your money is going to a place where you have a better chance of making it big. On campus housing is expensive like everywhere else, but well worth it. There are two dorms that are the dorm-suite style, and come with a kitchen, living room, and individual rooms. Centinnial Place is brand new, and even comes with a Coldstone Ice Cream! I've heard great reviews on it. Living on campus will pay for itself by saving gas money, and it's pretty nice being only minutes away from the main part of campus.

    Tips for prospective students

College is only as hard as you make it. No matter where you go. If you spend your time wisely, study when you need, set your priorities, and focus on your goals, then you will succeed. Your experience at GSU will be more fun if you get involved on campus. There are several clubs and student organizations, and intramurals are very popular. Most importantly, leave some time for yourself. If you spend all your time with your nose in a book, you won't fully experience college. Make sure that you spend as much time with your friends as you do studying and doing homework. Speak up in class, meet people, make friends, go out. These are the types of things that will help you develop the social skills needed to be successful in life. Definitely go to sporting events, particularly football and baseball because each game is a new experience in itself.

Great for these types of students

Georgia Southern is great for students who want to make a difference. They don't want to just get lost in a crowd. If you feel uncomfortable going to a school with a massive campus, and you don't do well with bustling, and congested areas, you'd fit in here. The school is big enough to where you know you're not in high school anymore, but it doesn't suffocate you. You can go at your own pace, and succeed academically while getting the most out of your college experience.

    Am learning a lot

The lower level course tend to expand up things that one normally learns in high school so they are not extremely difficult. As I have gotten more into course that relate to my major I can definitely see how I will be able to use what I have learned in the work force

    Am enjoying being here

This campus is filled with many activities every day so there is something for everyone to do. Also the layout of campus is very easy to navigate unlike some of my friend's schools that I have visited.

    Bang for the buck

The school offers a lot of helpful resources for their students such as a complete and extensive gym, health center, optic center, tutors centers, Computer repair center, tons of computer labs and printers, and print shop.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest focus on your core class curriculum for a year to take some courses and make sure you know they major you would like to declare so as you don't end up wasting time on courses they may not end up applying to your major and waste course time.

    Am learning a lot

I feel that I am learning a lot at GSU. When I started my second semester in Fall 2009, I attended Summer 2009, I thought i would be able to just breeze through my classes, but that was not the case at all. I feel that I was being challenged in all classes. It was not where i could just skim over the material and be okay. I actually had to sit down and study, which I never did before. In the end it did pay off, i was better prepared for class and the information did not just leave my head after I took an exam. It was there to stay. Your professors are there to help you.

    Am enjoying being here

YES. The campus is beautiful and there is never a dull moment. There is always something going on. There are many activities that you can get involved in on and off campus. Eagle Entertainment provides concerts, we even have our own talk show. There is a state of the art gym, the RAC, that has everything even rock climbing. When it's time to hit the books Henderson is the place to be. The library even has different floors depending on what noise level you can take. It comes in hand when finals arrive.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely think that I am getting the bang for my buck. GSU is one of the cheaper universities out there. On average, a semester i spend a little over $5,000 (not the average price for everyone attending). That includes paying rent at my off-campus apartment. If you get HOPE and Pell Grant, as i do, you virtually have to pay nothing out of pocket. At that price I am getting a quality education and a nice place to live.

    Tips for prospective students

Just try to have your priorities straight when you get there. I'm not saying not to have fun, but just know there is a time and a place for everything. GSU does live up to its reputation of a party school, there is always something going on. You just have to know what you are there for.

Great for these types of students

Those who want a large university feel but still have the closeness with their professors as a small university. If you are interested in the nursing field, GSU is top rated. If you are also interested in the music/arts program, business or research.

    Am learning a lot

There is a lot of work that comes with going to college. At Georgia Southern, studying is a necessity. As long as you show up to class and study, you will get the grades you want and learn a lot in the process.

    Am enjoying being here

Its a great school. Their motto is that they are a large school with a small feel. It could not be more true. Most of the faculty genuinely are there to do whatever they can to help you. I enjoy feeling like I'm a name and not a number.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive period, but taking into consideration that Georgia Southern is a large university, the prices are not too bad. However, the prices are atrocious at the University Store on campus. Also, books are extremely expensive. Try to get them from upperclassmen, online, or anywhere else if possible.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your flu shot every year as soon as it comes out. It takes 10-12 days to be effective so don't procrastinate! This applies especially to people living in close quarters with a lot of students such as dorms. Keep well stocked on medicine for colds, sinus infections, and pain. My grades took a hard hit this semester because I got sick multiple times. Please learn from my mistakes.

Great for these types of students

I believe this school all types of students. I have seen a well-rounded variety of student here at Georgia Southern.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are very friendly and this makes the learning experience better. Overall i learned a lot from just my first semester at GSU.

    Am enjoying being here

Statesboro is a small town but don't get me wrong, there are a lot things do. The people and students at GSU are friendly and nice, the campus is very beautiful and peaceful place. I can say that it is one of the best looking campuses in the United States and i enjoyed being at GSU.

    Bang for the buck

The education i am currently receiving at Georgia Southern University is definitely a BANG FOR THE BUCK. Unlike other accredited colleges GSU is fairly cheaper compared to most colleges and the education system at GSU is superb.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you apply for housing on time so that you could stay in the dorms: there are some new dorms that were built recently and old ones have been renovated. If you somehow apply late for housing you might not get a chance to live on campus because a lot of students are deciding to attend GSU in the past couple of years.

Great for these types of students

Georgia Southern Univ. is great for any type of student as long as you focus on your school you would not have a hard time.

    Am learning a lot

I have not only learned what my professors have lectured on in class, but I have learned to be my own person and be independent. Southern is sometimes known as a PARTY SCHOOL, but not everyone here parties. I dont. I also dont feel pressured to go out and drink. Southern is full of friends who will all teach you things in many ways. A friend might teach you to enjoy life and go out walk around out wonderful campus. Learning is all over this campus, not just in the classroom.

    Am enjoying being here

I have enjoyed my time in Southern. It has been so much fun. There is always something on campus to do, whether it is a movie at Russel Union or a concert at the Recital Hall. And I have found that there is always a friend to hang out with. Fun is always around here at Southern, and it is not always at the bars.

    Bang for the buck

Every professor will do whatever he or she can to make sure that they are doing their job. Many will offer their office hours and contact info for students to use if they need some outside help. They are all very good at their jobs.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit campus and talk to students and see how everyone's experience here is different and anyone can find their place on campus.

    Am learning a lot

So far all my teachers have been helpful, you just have to ask if you need the extra help. Not all classes are easy, but if you put effort and time into your work, you will make a B or A. I have learned a lot from my first semester classes.

    Am enjoying being here

It is a great place, nice walking grounds, relatively close classes (all within 15 minutes of each other). The RAC (Recreational Activity Center) is one of the best places to exercise ever, so many different sports you can play for intramural. Pick up games are all the time, easy to make friends. Many different food areas across campus, I like all the places, so you are bound to find some place you like.

    Bang for the buck

It costs way less than any big name schools, and you get a great education, and the RAC, which is one of the top gymnasiums in GA or the country if I'm not mistaken.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Be organized.
    2. Figure out where things are on campus before hand, (especially all your classes).
3.Try the RAC every now and again because there are plenty of activities to relieve stress.
    4. Study for tests through out the week so that you are prepared.

Great for these types of students

Great for new, focused, hard-working college students.

    Am learning a lot

I have only attended Georgia Southern University for one semester, and have already learn a lot of information. The professors here really know what they are talking about. Each professor works with the students to help them understand all of the information. The material is tough, but learning it will definitely be worth your while. Classes like Psychology and History go into great detail and expand your mind. They do not stick to cliche topics, but instead teach you the side of history and life that you do not already know!

    Am enjoying being here

Georgia Southern University has definitely been the place for me! As with any college the social aspect is wonderful. There are local restaurants and bars that feature local and nationally known artists almost every weekend! The school itself offers a variety of activities including free movies, plays, and many other activities!

    Bang for the buck

College expenses are always a stressful topic, but that is why Georgia Southern is so wonderful. It offers smaller classes, and a more intimate student teacher relationship than other big name universities without weighing down your wallet! The dorms are very well priced (and very spacious). The books can get pricey, but they offer cash at the end of the semester if you sell them back!

    Tips for prospective students

Come to Georgia Southern knowing that you will have to buckle down on your academics. Despite what some say, Georgia Southern is not a school to be taken lightly. The social life is great, but without the grades it will not matter because you will have to leave. Prioritize and make sure you set aside time for both parts of your life.

Great for these types of students

Georgia Southern is great for students who are looking for that median school. Although not as large as the University of Georgia, or Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern still offers students the amenities of those larger schools (football!).

    Will learn a lot

I feel that the University will have a lot to offer me in terms of getting my bachelor's degree.

    Will enjoy being here

The student advisors greeted me from the very beginning. I came across many friendly and helpful students during my visit.

    Bang for the buck

The dorms are absolutely worth it. There's traditional-style ones, but I prefer the apartment-style living because they have more space.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep your grades up and score as high as possible on the SAT and ACT tests. It wouldn't hurt to take an AP course or two to prove that you're not slacking off your senior year.

Great for these types of students

If you like the outdoors, friendly classmates, and being in a peaceful area with the option to travel to Atlanta, Hilton Head, or Savannah, this school is definitely for you.

The campus is absolutely beautiful, it's one of the things I love most about this school. I've had a good experience with all of my professors so far and the classes are great. I also love the sense of community you feel, especially at football games, and I like the number of things that are offered for students to participate in.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you develop really good time managements skills! It will help you stay on top of your classes and also helps to balance out your school life and social life. Southern is a party school, but make sure that your focus stays primarly on your schoolwork because that is what you're there for and that is what's most important. Make time for fun with your friends though because it will make all the difference in your experience.

    Dorm Life

Choose your roommates carefully. I can't stress that enough. Make sure you get to know them before school starts, it will make things a lot less awkward. The dorms are very nice though. I'm didn't have that great of an experience with my roommates but the types of rooms offered are very nice. I live in a 4 BR/2 BA and have my own room, which is excellent.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Sweetheart Circle is beautiful! Apparently if you and your sweetheart walk around the circle three times, then you'll get married to that person :) The library is also magnificent.

    Tips for prospective students

come ready to have a good time, but also ready to put forth the effort necessary to obtain a degree. college is a lot of freedom, but it is also lots of work!

    Academic Rigor

much like any other school, the academics here are not to be taken lightly. however, the professors are dedicated to student success and there is a student success center that offers tutoring in every subject. it is easy enough that if you prepare, you will excel, and hard enough so that you will be able to say you earned your degree once you walk across the stage.

    Dorm Life

    Am learning a lot

As a current Georgia Southern student, I am learning a lot every day. If it is not something particularly in the classroom, it is through the school's bi-weekly published newspaper, a student- organization, a nationally known public speaker, or event happening on campus. The experience one can have at Southern is also truly unique and the individual can learn information in the classroom, but it also the life experiences and networking opportunities outside the classroom that give one the edge needed for the real world. When talking with relatives and friends I am always proud to inform them of my recent accomplishments as a student, or I hear of someone else who went to Southern who is doing successfully in the business world. There is also usually one special class each semester that really opens up my eyes to how the world functions. My Biology class informed me of what it means to Be Green. My Economics class was one of the most relevant classes I have ever taken to help me understand the economy due to the condition it is in right now. And my Introduction to International Studies class I am currently enrolled in has inspired me to apply for a Study Abroad trip this summer to Berlin, Germany! Georgia Southern gives you the opportunity to become equipped with a broad foundation of knowledge, but it is up to the student to how they want to act on their education and hit the ground running with a whole new world of ideas.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying Georgia Southern more than I could have imagined. I am a Student- Athlete and I swim on the Women's Georgia Southern University Women's Swimming and Diving Team. The student-athlete community gets great support from other students on campus. Our football team just recently won the SoCon Championship! I have truly pushed myself both physically and mentally. I just joined the Golden Key International Honour Society, and I am also in Phi Eta Sigma and Sigma Alpha Lamba Honor Societies. The weather is great if you are someone who enjoys hot summers and mild winters. The campus is also located close enough to Savannah for a day trip with friends to River Street or the beaches of Saint Simons, Hilton Head, or Tybee Islands. The professors are willing to work with students one on one during office hours to answer any questions, or just to help them with life situations. They are not there to waste your time. The student body is diverse. I loved the fact that I could be riding the bus to class and overhear a conversation in a language that I couldn't identify what it was! There’s also nothing better than a whole afternoon of tailgating before a Georgia Southern football game at the prettiest little stadium in the world: Paulson Stadium. Although, don’t let the description fool you; the largest attended game this fall was close to 15,000 students, alumni, and football fans.

    Bang for the buck

Georgia Southern University is financially affordable for all students. Everyone should be able to attend college. I am currently on the HOPE Scholarship, a Pell Grant, and Subsidized Loan. The campus is clean and very well kept. The buildings are in good condition and new additions to the school are being updated and added all the time. The Meal Plan system is great for all students, not just freshmen, and many of the restaurants and places to eat on campus are open late and on weekends to accommodate for student needs. Georgia Southern is growing exponentially in size because it is one of the most affordable schools in Georgia. The Financial Aid Office is also very helpful is assisting potential students, and current students about how to handle their financial situation no matter how big or small. There are always free movies, activities, work out classes, sporting events, and food offered to students which are already covered in your Student Fees. All you have to do is show up! They are also bringing big name artist to campus for concerts for a small fee of twenty dollars. The library is one of the hot spots during Finals week. It stays open long and extended hours. But even when its not Finals week it’s a great place to study or catch up on school work. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help a student. The RAC is one of the new LEED buildings on campus where all the sports, both varsity and intramural take place.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking at Georgia Southern as a prospective student, I encourage you to take a campus tour. As soon as we drove up on Sweetheart Circle, there is an expectation for greatness. By taking a tour, one gets to see a day on campus and feel the sense of community of the student body. This is usually a back- up school, but as soon as I visited it jumped up to my number one choice. Many people think South Georgia has nothing to offer, but Georgia Southern is a diamond in the rough. There really is something for everyone, a place for people to find their niche, and there’s also plenty of room for people to try something totally new! College is a time to branch out and explore who you are as a person. The biggest thing as an incoming freshman is time management. Because there is something going on around campus every day of the week, it is easy to get distracted from the reason why you came there in the first place: an education.

If you don't want to be to be another number on a college campus, Georgia Southern would be a great fit for you. Their slogan of Large-scale, small-feel is true to its word. The Georgia Southern campus is large and beautiful, but it is also not a struggle to get from one side to the other. This university is great for a student who wants to be able to further their education, meet great new people, and enjoy warm weather. College is a big place and can be intimidating, but I never felt like I couldn’t ask for help at Southern. Southern is a place for the student who wants to grow. There are countless ways to get involved: band, sports, Greek life, church, environmental groups, ethnicity based groups, back-packing trips, anything you want and they have it, and if they don’t you can start the club yourself!

Even thought Georgia Southern does not require alot for admissions courses are still rigorous. I learn so much in all of my classes

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE Georgia Southern. It is a great college. It has a small, but not too small atmosphere. It is perfect for anyone who doesn't want to go to a super huge college, but doesn't want tiny either. The campus is so pretty and there are many things to do, and lots of ways to get involved.

    Bang for the buck

Georgia Southern is well priced school for all of the wonderful things you get.

    Tips for prospective students

Georgia Southern is a great school. I live 4 hours away, and it is a great distance from home. If you don't know a lot of people going to Georgia Southern, don't worry, you will make new friends, everyone is very friendly.

Great for these types of students

Someone who wants a smaller campus. Someone who wants to be involved in their school and community. Someone who wants to have an amazing college experience!

    Am learning a lot

I have been incredibly satisfied with the quality of education at GSU. I am a Graphic Design and Honors student, so I am challenged in many different ways. I have taken multiple Honors core classes, and they are engaging and stimulating, and are taught by professors who are dedicated to their subjects. The same can be said for all of the other professors I have encountered in my non-Honors classes. I am also pushed creatively within the Art Dept., where I am pushed to work in various media.

    Am enjoying being here

GSU is not only a beautiful campus, it contains tons of resources. The library and all other academic centers are well-equipped, and there are plenty of areas for lounging. The university also makes a great effort to provide various forms of entertainment (for free) during the school semester. Overall, the campus is a pleasant place to be.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is very reasonable, considering GSU is a full-scale research university. I have been able to get a good amount of financial aid because of my grades, and students also have work opportunities on campus to assist with tuition. I feel as though I am paying a good amount for such a great education, and was very surprised by the price.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to attend class as frequently as possible, and make a conscious effort to succeed in class. Although you will be challenged in your classes, any student who is prepared to learn should have little difficulty in making good grades. For students who are struggling, I suggest taking advantage of the Academic Success Center, which is promoted by many teachers. Also, never be afraid to get assistance from a professor, as they will all be willing to help you understand the course material beyond the confines of the class.

Great for these types of students

Motivated individuals who want a quality education should certainly apply. This is a wonderful school for taking advantage of HOPE if you are a GA resident, and those who are not should still look into the university because of its reasonable tuition. And of course, anyone who loves good football should enroll!

As a Junior at Georgia Southern University, I have learned a lot in three years. Most of my professors have been enthusiastic and helpful about the subjects they teach, but even more importantly, I have learned a lot outside of the classroom. Coming to Georgia Southern has opened up so many opportunities for me and has introduced me to different cultures and ethnicities. I have made beneficial connections and have learned the importance of branching beyond my comfort zone. By becoming involved with on-campus employment and leadership organizations, I have become aware of my potential.

    Am enjoying being here

I do enjoy being a student at Georgia Southern University. While I was considering attending other institutions during my high school years, I am grateful that I picked Georgia Southern. The whole town of Statesboro is basically built around the campus, and with Savannah and the beach only about an hour away, there is a lot to keep college students busy.

    Bang for the buck

While the HOPE scholarship has been extremely helpful to me, Georgia Southern University has had several recent increases in tuition and student fees.

    Tips for prospective students

My advice for prospective Georgia Southern students is to get involved with a campus organization, be it Leadership and Civic Engagement, the Multicultural Student Center, Greek Life, or Campus Recreation and Intramurals. Whatever interests you, get involved and connected. It is important to get yourself out of your dorm room and socialize. You will be surprised how many new friends you will make.

Great for these types of students

Georgia Southern University is great for just about every type of student. It offers many degree programs and has an abundance of student activities and organizations to help get students involved.

    Am learning a lot

I love all of my teachers and have learned more in the two years I have been at Georgia Southern than my whole high school, middle school, and elementary school years. My teachers have all been enthusiastic about the subjects they are teaching and are more than willing to help every student get everything they can out of the class.

I have yet to have a teacher who does not want their students to learn the subject and who is not enthusiastic to be teaching the course.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many groups, sororities, clubs, and organizations on campus. There is always something to do or some event to go to on campus. Students really enjoy the free movies and all the activities put on with our student activities fees. The whole community is very welcoming and there is somewhere for every student or prospective student to belong.

    Bang for the buck

This is a relatively cheap college but the education far surpasses the price. There are a lot of scholarships offered by the school and supporting organizations for students to receive. I have been here for two years and have yet to pay any money of my own or take out a loan. I would really recommend going to this school, because any school that is willing to help you pay for it, is a good choice.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should expect to do work at college, and going to class is always a good idea, but there are still tons of fun things to do on and around campus. Pay attention and learn, but also try to enjoy your college years. These are the last years you have before you have to get a job and live on your own! So take advantage of them and have a good time. Keep in mind that grades are important and they will help you have a brighter future so don't spend your whole college career having too much fun.

Great for these types of students

All types of students would be perfect for Georgia Southern University. It has so many different programs and majors, so there should be something for everyone :]

The boro is the place to be. Southern has many on-campus activities for students such as intramural sports, movies, and plays. The football games in the fall are always fun and the nightlife is awesome.

    Bang for the buck

What you pay is a great deal and if you have the HOPE Scholarship its a steal. The dorms here are fantastic. The facilities such as the Recreation Activity Center (RAC) is one cleanest and biggest gym I've ever seen. The food in Lakeside and the IT building is delicious.

    Tips for prospective students

A big tip for future students if you are a morning person don't take an early morning class. That was a big problem with me my first semester. Another is to live it up have as much fun as possible but not to much cause you do need to study. Another good tip is to join one of hundred clubs here. Its a great way to meet people that have the same interest as you.

Great for these types of students

Great school for students who like some small classes and large ones. Also students that like to play sports because Southern's Intramural sports are top notch.

I would say, for the amount you actually pay to go to Georgia Southern, you get a lot out of it. There are a lot of great classes and a lot of clubs to join. There are always tons of things to do and get involved with.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning on coming to Georgia Southern, as with any college, be prepared. The worst thing I did was getting behind on major deadlines like housing and application fees. Try to stay on top of dates.

I have the best professors that are willing to help at any time. There are also many programs for students that may be struggling. Such as, the Student Success Center. This center offers free tutoring for 12 hours a day in every subject. I always know I have help available if I get confused.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus atmosphere and all the students. The students have an amazing appreciation for school spirit. There are many traditions that make Georgia Southern special and stand out from other Universities. I have met many students from all over the world and we all share the common interest of higher education and the love for our school. It is an inspiring combination and an experience I would not trade for anything.

    Bang for the buck

At Georgia Southern there are many free items given away throughout the week. There also is a school store that has most items students need for school. I also feel that for the low cost of in-state tuition there are many free utilities that a student can use. For example, the gym, the free movie night, the academic success center, the library, the student writing center and much more.

    Tips for prospective students

Georgia Southern was my first choice and I am so glad I was so interested in this school. The students, faculty, and staff are all very friendly and welcoming from day one. It is truly a great experience. All students share a sense of pride for their school. Georgia Southern offers everything I need to be equipped for medical school with the top of the line professors. Georgia Southern is a place I feel safe and a place that I am proud to call home. Please become a part of our growing family, and forever be an eagle.

Great for these types of students

Georgia Southern is great for any students interested in Nursing. Georgia Southern offers almost all majors. The Nursing program is the best in the state. Our campus is equipped with a moch nursing station that allows students to spend two years using that as their two years experience. Being from the Metro Atlanta area, going to school in Statesboro is quite a change of surroundings since it is a small town. The School's student body as well as it's staff definitely make up for this through the way that they compliment one another by being a large school that still has a the personal and intimate feeling of a small school where your professors know you by name. I was hesitant about the University at first but it only grew on me more and more as I spent more time there.

    Tips for prospective students

The main challenge comes down to time management as well as planning. It's very easy and tempting to get caught up in the social aspects of school since you live so close to all of your pupils and friends there, but I recommend sticking to a schedule you can follow daily with time allotted for schoolwork in it (which can still be somewhat of a social activity if you share classes with your friends). The opposite of this situation would be failing to keep up with your work load because of frequent trips home for the weekend, which is typically a challenge for students whom are at Georgia Southern for their first time since they may find themselves in a smaller town than they are used to. Neither of these are difficult obstacles to overcome as long as you keep them in mind and can recognize when you are doing too much of one and not enough of your work load.

    Academic Rigor

Georgia Southern University is a fairly well-known university in Georgia, although it isn't as rigorous as the major Georgian colleges such as the University of Georgia or Georgia Tech.

    Dorm Life

I had mainly positive experiences with dorm life there inside and outside of my own building. My dorms had a great location on campus and were pretty new, considering that they were finished around 2007 or so. The other dorms may not have been as close to campus, but what they lacked in convenience they made up for with more spacious rooms that were already furnished and had full kitchens.

    Food and Dining

There are a decent amount of dining options on campus, including places where you can use student meal plans to purchase items you'd find in the grocery store as well as fresh produce and other healthy eating options. The diversity of the food was nice, but after a while the quality of it gets to you because food from one place may begin to taste similar to food from another.

    What to do for fun

Besides the bar scene that some students may consider to be the most fun thing to do in town, you have the convenience of being only 45 minutes away from Savannah/Tybee Island, and a little over an hour away from Hilton Head Island so weekend trips are pretty easy to do. There are typically plenty of activities to take part in set up by campus organizations whether its the screening of a movie on campus, joining an inter mural sports team or going to the RAC (Recreational Activity Center) to work out or go for a run. These are just a few things but once you know more people there it becomes easier to find things to do.

    Bang for the buck

The school is not as costly as more prestigious universities, and it still offers great educational/entertainment opportunities to it's students. In my experience There haven't been any classes that required material that was unattainable because it was out of price range. You're paying for a small school experience while still getting the perks of a full sized university.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The gorgeous campus is probably one of the best parts about the school and one of the nicest parts is the oldest area of the original campus called Sweetheart Circle because it is shaped like a heart. It's rumored that if you walk around it 3 times with your sweetheart that you're going to get married but I am yet to witness any proof of this firsthand.

Great for these types of students

GSU is great for students who like a social lifestyle including going out on weekends as well as students who are more into devoting their time to school work because if you aren't into going out at night then it's fairly easy to stay focused on your work. It's also convenient for people who like being relatively close to the coast as well as students interested in greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

There a variety of clubs and organizations for just about every filed of study/major, but there are plenty of others on top of these such as Southern Adventures who plans various outdoor activity related trips such as backpacking, rafting or camping. There's also CRI (Campus Recreation & Inter murals) who organizes all of the sports teams you can play for recreationally.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is a popular endeavor for many students here and there are a variety of Fraternities and Sororities to choose from. There are also some newer sorority chapters popping up on campus too, giving more students more options when choosing whether or not to be a part of greek life.

    Campus Safety

Never have I felt unsafe during my time at GSU. If anything concerning does happen the whole campus is alerted via email and text amongst other methods. There are also emergency boxes around campus where you can press a button that will alert the campus police instantly if you do not feel safe and would like their assistance. They do a very good job of making sure that all of the students at GSU feel secure.

I would give GA Southern a rate of a B. Academically it is a very good school to attend. The area surrounding GA Southern though is not very conducive to fun so it can be boring sometimes. The school does have a wide variety of extracurricular activities aimed at making ones time at GA Southern exciting.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're not ready for the country life you probably shouldn't come here. If you're into football this is a great school for you! We have a VERY good football team and the school is very much a football school. During football season the school goes wild.

    Academic Rigor

As I said earlier academically the school is very good. I myself am a business student. One of the most important aspects for me when searching for a school is that they are AACSB accredited. GSU is AACSB accredited and has been called one of the Best 100 schools by the Harvard Review.

    Dorm Life

I can't really comment too much on the dorm life, because I live in an apartment, but most of the dorms are actually just that. Georgia Southern bought out many of the apartment complexes surrounding the school. The school also has a busing system that goes to these apartment complexes so students will be able to live the apartment lifestyle without a car.

Georgia Southern University is exactly what they advertise it to be. It is a large scale (with almost 20,000 students) but small scale school, you do not feel like a number you are definitely a name. The professors care and are all there to help you succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering Georgia Southern take a school tour visit before you commit to make sure it is really what you want. You can tell a whole lot about a school from just walking the campus.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what year you are in college and what course type (honors vs. regular or Pre-Med vs. Non Pre-Med) really determines how rigorous the academics are, but overall they are at a good rigor to challenge your mind.

    Dorm Life

All food is great, but there could be more variety.

    What to do for fun

On-campus organizations are always hosting something fun on campus, which gives you an opportunity to receive free stuff and food all the time! There is also a Movie Theater in the student union and every Friday Eagle Entertainment shows a recent movie.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is top of the line. There are always campus police everywhere on campus, and there are these alerts called eagle alerts and if something happens on campus that could pose a threat to the students you will get a txt message and a phone call from the university police informing you of what just happened and where it happened and who to call if you see the suspect. Also, if it is dark at night and you have to walk across campus back to your dorm from the library, or anywhere, you can call campus police and they will send an officer to walk with you and make sure you arrive safely.

If you are into nature and animals Georgia Southern has two lakes in the center of the campus that are home to wildlife such ducks fish and turtles. Transportation is provided to certain areas of the campus to help you get to and from classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring very few winter clothes. There will be times where you may need a hoodie raincoat or jacket but the weather in Statesboro is usually warm. Make sure to apply for housing early because the best dorm (Centennial) will be taken up quickly by returning students. Make sure you understand the process on signing up for a class. it will be hectic trying to sign up for a class while hundreds of other students are doing the same.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are only as hard as you make them and the professor you get for that subject. the first year however is usually core classes you might have taken in high school, for example algebra trig chemistry history etc. so if you did well in your core classes in high school you should do well in your core classes here. most of the work and homework will be online so you will have to get used to submitting homework assignments on time or else you wont be able to turn it in at all. rarely will a teacher reopen an assignment unless there was a system failure.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life in all the dorms are great. depending on who your roommate is and which dorm you get into has its benefits. for example i was in centennial my first year and centennial has a market, a place called Einsteins that devotes its products to healthy food like a ham deli sandwich or bacon and egg cheese bagel sandwich also right beside it is Cold Stones which offers ice cream and smoothies. Centennial is also located so close to campus you can literally walk to class. usually there are events happening in you dorm for example a super bowl party was held during the super bowl and there were also events where you could win prizes

    Food and Dining

Georgia Southern offers a variety of places to eat. the russell union is home to chikfila and eagle dinnig which is similar to a regular restaurant. There is also Landrum which offers pizza bbq salads and at certain times food that remind you of home. Lakeside is similar to landrum except it offers a burger stand and a mexican food stand. other food places are found in the chemistry building the tech building and also in the RAC (Recreational Activity Center). you can buy food with your meal plans that you purchase at the beginning of the year. you are only allowed to use so many a day so choose wisely what you want to eat. the only place that has recently struggled with health inspections is Landrum and that is because it is one of the older buildings at GSU.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on on campus. Check flyers posted on the walls for events for example step shows up coming movies shown every friday night in the Russell union theater or something as simple as a talent show. different organizations hold different events and they usually come with free food. you can also visit the state of the art RAC facility located not to far from the main campus. Basketball courts weight machines rock climbing yoga classes karate fencing and even an indoor/outdoor pool are available. the RAC also offer sporting intramurals for all different kind of sports.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

SweetHeart Circle has many traditions you should check out. also before every home football game we have our mascot Eagle fly over the field. often if you here someone yell Georgia someone else will reply Southern (normally at home games)

Great for these types of students

Georgia Southern is great for those seeking a quiet surrounding when the campus is not busy. if you are ok with having a small town surrounding the campus and a place where the school thrives on major sports like football this will be home for you.

    Clubs and Activities

Many clubs and activities are available. if you want to start your own club you would have to go to the person in charge and have a certain amount of people in order to start it. any club you can think of some form of that club is available.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is priority on campus. emeregency systems are available all over campus and actual police not mall cops are there to help. there is also an eagle alert used to alert all students of something that may have occurred or just come up like a tornado warning or a theft.

Good school with a great atmosphere. Some teachers are nice but some can honestly make your semester bad. It is not just a party school, those who see it that way are probably the ones who didn't last that long there. Work still has to be done to graduate on time.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard. Have good time management. Get involved.

    Dorm Life

Depending on who your community leader is and probably your roommates. If you really have a problem though you can always ask to get switched out to another room or building.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd say that Georgia Southern is a solid 8. The professors, students, and administrators are generally polite and helpful. The campus has a small-town feel to it, but there are still many things to see, many people to meet, and many activities to participate in.

    Tips for prospective students

If there's anything that you should not do when you go to college, it's skipping class. You will always end up on top if you simply attend class. After all, you're already paying for it. You may as well go.

    Academic Rigor

My course of study is music education. The work is challenging but not impossible. Just like any other major, if you go to class, study, and pay attention, you'll do just fine.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are pretty great. I lived in Eagle Village my first year, and I had a blast. May sure you get to know your neighbors on your hall. They'll probably end up being your best friends later in the year.

    Food and Dining

The dining on campus is okay. My favorite place to eat was Wrapsody Grill. There are many places to find something good to eat on campus. Sometimes, you just have to be willing to walk across campus to get it.

    What to do for fun

The RAC is an excellent place to stay healthy and stay active. Eagle Entertainment offers movies and other fun activities. The Clubhouse is a bowling/mini-golf/arcade facility that is always a blast to go to. And, of course, you can always join a student organization.

Georgia Southern in an excellent school. There are great teachers and interesting people. I also love the campus layout and it's never exactly boring.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember that if you don't seem to be learning anything in a class, it's probably because the teacher doesn't teach the way you learn - if you ever find yourself in that situation, just sign up for a different teacher!

    Academic Rigor

Classes are hard or easy depending on what you bring and how hard you work.

    Dorm Life

Although dorm mates can get a little crazy, the dorm life is great and you meet all sorts of people.

    Food and Dining

They're actually remodeling the dining halls, and the food is always good.

    What to do for fun

There's always something to do for fun, whether it be hanging with friends or going to the RAC. Also, Georgia Southern has recently release movies playing every Friday. There are even dive-in movies. And the resident halls always hold programs.

    Bang for the buck

There's a lot of places to work on campus and even places that are within walking distance. Also, there are tons of places to sell books, so if you don't think one store is offering you enough, just move on to the next.

Ever semester the school holds a huge game of Humans vs. Zombies. It's always fun to walk around campus and see random people get nailed with balled up socks or dart guns.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs. I'm currently in two and the people in it are great and welcoming. The school even has its own Glee club!

    Greek Life

I don't know much about the sorority life, but there are a lot of sororities and fraternities to pledge at.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is over the top. Most of the dorms have i.d. access and only if you live there can you enter the building. Also campus security are always patrolling. Sometimes I think they have nothing better to do.

Georgia Southern is a great school! The campus and facilities are beautiful. Plus, the education seems to be of a good quality because the teachers seem to really care about taking care of their students.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard! GSU is a respected school and works very hard to make sure it takes care of its students, but you have to take care of yourself too! Work hard, and GSU will work even harder to help you!

    Academic Rigor

I'm not sure how hard the classes will be yet, however, according to the teachers and advisors the work can be challenging...but in a good way.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are so nice! They're all clean and very well equipped with anything a new student could need. Many other schools don't have air conditioning or heating in their dorms but all of GSU's dorms do! Plus there is wireless internet everywhere and plenty of places to cook, wash, eat, play, etc. They have everything you could possibly need really.

    Food and Dining

I haven't tried the dining hall food yet, but I'm already looking forward to it. anything has to be better than high school cafeteria food.

    What to do for fun

There are tons of things to do at Georgia Southern! The RAC is loaded with things to do and there seems to always be something going on around the campus.

    Bang for the buck

I think GSU has a pretty reasonable price for such a great school, campus, and education. Most all of the activities and athletic events are included in student fees. The housing isn't bad either, compared to other schools.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

You can have small or large classes, and plenty of activies to do outside of classes. Plus, there are lots of research and learning opportunities to choose from. Students who want a flexible college will love it here.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ridiculous amount of acitivies and clubs at GSU. It's great!

Beautiful walking campus, with trees perfect for climbing on almost every corner. The staff and professors are all nice, and go out of their way to help you. Beautiful, and friendly small town feel in the heart of such a huge campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Really try to get to know your professors, and attend every class. Also, be active. Join an organization, or simply make and maintain a group of friends. Finally, never forget about your family. Make it a point to call home once a week- it helps.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on what type of student you are. As an honors student, I tend to register for more challenging courses. If you just want to breeze through though, then you can find easy teachers here- just as you can on any other campus.

    Dorm Life

Again, this depends on who you are. If you tend to be one to meet the neighbors, then the experience is incredible. If you would rather sit in your room and study, then dorm life might just be the worst part of freshman year. In all though, the experience is more than worth it. Every dorm floor has one or more community leader (CL) to look after you, and they schedule various programs and activities throughout the year in order to get you involved.

    Food and Dining

At first, the food here is great, especially after high school food. It gets really easy to become bored with the small selection. Also, never eat at Landrum. Awful taste, and not very clean.

    What to do for fun

Join clubs, join sports, randomly climb trees, see an art show, a play, a musical production, or head into town to explore main street, see a movie, go bowling. There are a lot of things to do, you just have to be willing to get upp and go do them.

    Bang for the buck

Attending this college was worth every penny.

Sweet heart circle has a legend behind it. If you hold the hand of the man/woman you love and walk three times around it, then you will be together forever.

Great for these types of students

The honors lounge is great for the student who would prefer a nice secluded place to get some studying done. Sweet heart circle is better for the student who loves to be outdoors, and has a paper to write.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs are very active when it comes to recruiting, and there is at least one club that fits perfectly to any individual.

    Greek Life

I did not participate in this, but a lot of my friends did. Word of caution: Greek life will completely absorb your entire life.

    Campus Safety

Campus police do daily patrols, and there are panic phones all over campus. On top of this, the pathways are well light during every moment of the night. Working in the library until one or two in the morning, I never felt frightened on my walk back to my dorm.

    Academic Rigor

i am attending in the upcoming year and am more than thrilled to be at such a good school. i think georgia southern is the school to watch out for as far as a rising star of a school.

    Tips for prospective students

being a prospective student myself, the only thing that i have to say is to apply for the lead scholarship. it gives students a chance to check out the school and explore the town of statesboro!

    Academic Rigor

as far as from what i can tell, the students of southern seem committed to their education and getting the biggest bang for their buck for their education.

    Dorm Life

i toured the campus and all of the residence halls and they were all secure, clean and in close proximity to the educational halls.

    Food and Dining

the food is fantastic! i am planning on the meal plan and i know that starbucks is on the meal plan which i'm most excited for, but besides that there are a multitude of fast food and casual dining that are also on the meal plan.

in early february i visited for open house, and throughout the day i became convinced that this was the undergraduate school for me! the campus and population is ideal, and i really look forward to the research opportunities here. i'm about to apply for my housing right now! yay!

    Tips for prospective students

study hard because school is the real deal. education will grant you access, so remember that. challenge yourself!

    Academic Rigor

every institution you consider will appreciate a student who has applied themselves to honors and ap courses in high school. while gsu has an average rigor, it too offers a super competitive honors course and club, along with a values club which is so competitive that it only allows 10 (or is it 15?) students per semester. the point is, if you apply yourself, it can be quite challenging, and that it is a great way to advance in college!

    Dorm Life

i do not recommend southern pines or watson. they're cheap and cramped. i am applying for eagle village and kennedy. since i am female, i prefer kennedy because it offers bathtubs instead of plain, square showers. the furniture is modern. all dorms provide comfort, but kennedy has the most security. wherever you choose to reside, dorm life is going to be bomb!

    Food and Dining

    it has the best food!!!

    What to do for fun

haven't quite figured that out yet . . . there is always tybee island and savannah though! i visited in early february, and it felt like summertime - it was awesome! the nights get colder though. i also heard that the walmart there is the fourth largest in either the country or world.

georgia southern is a wonderful school for students that want to have a home away from home. although the course work is tough at times, the professors and staff work extremely hard to make sure students are on track and have plenty of assistance. all in all, gsu is definitely one of the best schools in the south!

    Tips for prospective students

prospective students should keep in contact with both their high school counselors as well as the admissions department at the university. communication is a crucial part of the admissions process at georgia southern. my suggestion: keep track of your eagle i.d. you should get it when you are accepted and it is your identification on campus.

    Academic Rigor

academics at georgia southern are tough, but all the professors are really and willing to work with every students individually. there are tons of study groups available and the professors are shockingly easy to access for help. my suggestion: visit all your professors at least twice before midterms.

    Dorm Life

life in the dorm is really what you make it. all the dorms are co-ed and there are no curfew. however, regulations in the dorms are very strict and some housing directors live in or near the dorms. i strongly recommend living on campus for all students because of accessibility to classes and for safety concerns. my suggestion: get out and meet your floor mates! always remember that your community leader is there to help you and give an occasional pearl of wisdom.

    Food and Dining

food on campus is nice, but could be better. there are lots of options, which is a good thing, but it can be a bit mundane at times. some restaurants on campus include : a full service chick-fil-a and starbucks in the russel union building, cold stone creamery, einstein bros. bagels as well as other eateries like talons grill and landrum all you can eat cafeteria. my suggestion: keep track of your meal plans (food on campus is expensive if you are paying out of pocket) and keep your choices light.

    What to do for fun

there is a constant stream of activity on campus. many of the on-campus events are organized by eagle entertainment - a student run organization. some of their events include friday night movie screenings in the union and tuesday open-mic nights at starbucks (complete with free coffee). also, volunteering with organizations on campus is a great way to meet new people, boost your resume and benefit the community. my suggestion: join hall counsel and be a part of events within the dorms.

    Bang for the buck

do most of the shopping for your supplies off campus! grey's bookstore is amazing and there is a cluster of bargain chains not too far from campus (walmart, k-mart, big lots, etc). my suggestion: enroll in the wecar car sharing program if you do not have a car on campus. it is a cheap way to get what you need without bumming a ride everywhere.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

georgia southern is good for all students : there is an honors college within the university for those who have the drive and also programs in place to help struggling students as well. gsu has a reputation for being a party school, but it is largely untrue. my suggestion: go to class. many professors do not have a attendance policy, but 98% of test materials cover topics only covered in class.

    Clubs and Activities

there are countless numbers of volunteer organizations to join on campus. it is quick and easy to start your own organization too. many of the organizations work closely with the professors and you could earn some extra credit in your classes for participation. my suggestion: join the clubs that interest you the most and commit to them. many of the groups have free pizza and drinks at their weekly meetings!

    Greek Life

there is a large greek presence on campus. there is no harsh initiation ceremonies and there are social fraternities as well as academic ones. my suggestion: frats are great for those who can afford it, but unless it is a strict family tradition for you - you can skip this one.

    Campus Safety

safety on campus is a huge concern for everyone. the campus has its own police department and there is also an alert system called eagle alert. they send out text messages and call students that enroll in the service whenever something happens on or near campus. my suggestion: program the gsupd number in your phone your first night on campus. when you are traveling alone at night, call them for an escort (no one thinks it lame by the way).

If there's a problem I have learned to ask for help from the teachers,a tutor, the academic learning centers, or study groups. I have learned a lot, but I have much more to learn.
Teachers are generally friendly and have no problem explaining things a couple of times until you understand.

If you can't find anything to do at Georgia Southern, you must not be looking hard enough.
If you love exercise the RAC is an amazing center with treadmills, elliptical, stationary bikes, swimming pools, and basketball courts.
If group fitness is something that you like, we have several group fitness classes at the rac ranging from Aqua Funk to Yoga and Awesome Abs.
Sports and Intramurals are also a part of exercise at Georgia southern. Football, Soccer,Lacrosse, and Basketball are only a few of the many club and intramural sports here.

Other than Exercise, there are several clubs that are major specific-like Biology club and Construction Management Guild.
There are also opportunities to volunteer on and off campus.
Check the rotunda-Free stuff is given out there a few times each semester.

    Bang for the buck

Scholarships, Financial Aid and the price is fairly reasonable for in State tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

-Check the Rotunda for free stuff and events
-Find something to be involved in. There is way too much going on at Georgia Southern to not be involved in something.
-Your efforts are generally what types of grades you get here.
-Pay attention to weekly newsletters. It keeps you informed on events that you can attend.

Great for these types of students

-Students that like a nice campus
-Students that like to play sports and/or be involved
-Students that may not care for the Large-scale Feeling of a college. It feels more personal here. You get to know people more, despite the size of campus.

The classes are not too huge here so there is an opportunity to learn all that you need to know for a subject.

    Am enjoying being here

The people here are so nice. I was welcomed as a freshman and felt a part of the college. I wish I was more involved but I plan to become very soon.

    Tips for prospective students

Just come ready to try new things. I'm a shy person so I can understand if that is hard to do because it is for me but college is the time to reinvent yourself. Take full advantage that people do not know you so be the best you that you can be.

Great for these types of students

Georgia Southern University is a great school. I am finishing up my third year here and I have learned so much. Not only academically but I've also learned some life lessons. As far as the academics go, you can't help but learn at this school if you plan on staying. The classes are made to really teach you so if you don't plan on working, don't come here. They offer a lot of different sources to help the students learn and understand the material.

    Am enjoying being here

Because Southern is located in a really small town, their isn't much outside of the campus to do for entertainment. But once you start getting to know people and finding different things to do and activities to go to, it's more enjoyable. Also, Savannah is less than an hour away so if you feel the need to go to a real mall (because the Statesboro Mall is a joke) or go to the beach, you can always take a little trip down there.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is very affordable for what you are getting, an education on a beautiful campus from great teachers. And, Southern has so many different majors to choose from.

    Tips for prospective students

Anyone planing on going to Georgia Southern, know that college and high school are two completely different things. You will need to put more in to your work but it's well worth the effort. Start off strong so you won't have to catch up later. College is a very enjoyable time if you take care of your business first and have fun later.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for ALL types of students. Student's coming out of high school are able to meet a lot of different people. The school also has a lot events for students to help them socialize with new people. Southern has great programs for graduate students. Southern also offers evening and online classes so to cater to the non-traditional and the working students.

    Am learning a lot

I am in my first semester at Georgia Southern, but I have already learned a lot in the short time that I have been here. I have professors that care for their students, and they show it through their lectures and labs. I have really learned a lot due to teachers who care and teach very well.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere at Georgia Southern is very welcoming to new students. The staff, teachers, and other students are very friendly. There are also many activities and clubs that the students are able to participate in. I have really enjoyed my time here are GSU.

    Bang for the buck

The price of coming to Georgia Southern is well worth the money. You are receiving university quality for junior college prices. This is wonderful for students on a budget. There are also many free perks for students that make the price worth every penny.

    Tips for prospective students

My advice for new students would be to sign up for your SOAR session early so that you can register for the classes you want at the times you want. If you wait around and sign up for a late SOAR session, all the classes and time slots that you may have wanted will be filled up.

Great for these types of students

I am a Biology major here at GSU, and I have heard and experienced a great science program so far. The quality of the classes has been excellent. I would recommend the Biology or the Chemistry programs here at GSU.

I'm only a sophomore here as I am writing this review, but I have already seen a great improvement of my abilities from my freshman year. I am learning a lot and I remember it.

    Am enjoying being here

The people here are really nice; however, the town is a little small for my taste. I sometimes find myself being bored, but the campus is a completely different world from the town.

    Bang for the buck

The pricing at this school is reasonable. They have many resources made available by the money they charge us and it's a lot to take advantage of. The only time I cringe is when I'm spending money on books.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to take advantage of everything that is offered on our campus. There is a lot that many students don't even know about (like you can rent a bike for the semester, get one-on-one help with writing papers, and more). Remember that you're paying to provide these resources so you might as well use them.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot in my non-core classes (ex: music, german, japanese). if you're not in the honors program or have a teacher from the program, a lot of the classes are not too interesting as they are catering to crowds from 50-200.

    Am enjoying being here

I had a decent freshman year-- classes were not too difficult, I made a small circle of friends and there are many opportunities to get involved in various student organizations.

    Bang for the buck

Though GSU has lower tuition than many other schools in Georgia, they do not offer too much financial aid (not including government or HOPE)

    Tips for prospective students

Avoid crowds that enjoy partying. Georgia Southern has a stigma for being a party-place and while that is true for a lot of students, it doesn't apply to them all. I do not drink or smoke, nor do my friends and we had a great time so far. It is possible to have a social life without being coerced into activities you do not enjoy or feel comfortable about.

Great for these types of students

If you like schools with strong support in sports and the science, it's the place for you. If you're a musician or linguistic student like myself, it is a little harder to fit in, but you will find those with similar interests as yourself and it will be okay :)

    Am learning a lot

I have definitely learned a lot during my time at Georgia Southern. The professors are extremely qualified and the majority are always willing to help if you ask. They are from numerous cultures and countries around the world and have a wide background. Not only am I learning a lot academically but in every other area. Like many students, college was my first time away from home and living on my own. I learned a lot about time management, responsibility, managing money, and so much more.

    Am enjoying being here

Enjoying Georgia Southern is an understatement. I love it. Georgia Southern has that hometown feel to it. Although it now has over 20,000 students, every day I walk across campus I know I will see someone I know. It is easy to make friends and get involved here with all of the clubs, intramurals, Greek life, and activities made available for students. GSU also has a lot of great traditions that unite the student body. There is the watermelon cutting, the lighting of sweetheart circle, the football team arriving on the old yellow school buses and so much more.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other schools of similar quality you really are saving a lot of money by attending Southern. I personally was accepted to four other schools and this one was by the the best when looking at what you get for the cost. Not only that, but they offer tons of scholarships for their students.

    Tips for prospective students

The biggest tip I can give is to learn to manage your time. It is the biggest problem among college students both new and old. Don't stay in and study all the time because you won't get the college experience. However you can't go out every night either. Every student is different and needs to find what works best for them. It takes awhile and sometimes you have to try multiple different things before you find out what works for you but when you do its worth is priceless. Another tip is to enjoy Georgia Southern and all that it offers for you. The school puts on a lot of programs and activities that are free for students. Plus all of the games are free. These are things that every student should experience at least once. My final tip is to get involved with something. Join a club or organization with people that share the same interest as you. It is a great way to meet people and experience things you may not have had the opportunity to normally.

Great for these types of students

Georgia Southern is great for any type of student. It is the kind of place that offers something for everyone, no matter what. It is such a diverse campus that people of all types can find others that share similar interests and backgrounds. Within my first week at Southern I knew I had chosen the right place for me.

The campus is BEAUTIFUL. Its big enough to feel like you are going to a top level, ivy league school, yet its small enough that you don't feel overwhelmed.

    Tips for prospective students

College is nothing like you think it is. The movies over-exaggerate the parties, but they also over-exaggerate how hard the courses are. Yes, some classes are harder than others, but overall, its pretty cool. You meet the people you are going to be friends with for the rest of your life here, so make the moments count. A lot of people can't handle the free time college gives you, so you need to make the most of it. Join a club, go to the sponsored events, just get out there. These are the best moments of your life so live it up, and watch your studies. You can do it.

This large-scale, small-feel research university is perfect if you hate huge classes and you want to get a good education. I am TRUE BLUE. I love this school with all of my heart. I never thought it would be possible to make so many friends - true friends. You'll be sure to get some of that southern hospitality here too. The school is located in a rural town, but there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. What really attracted me to this place was its beautiful landscape and the Recreation Activity Center (1st floor has free weights, basketball courts, racquetball courts, spin studio, and an indoor/outdoor pool. 2nd floor is cardio - including ellipticals, treadmills, bikes, rowing machines, track, group fitness classes). Also, I love the school spirit. We almost won the championship last year in the SOCON conference. You'll love the prettiest little stadium in America.

    Bang for the buck

I think Ga Southern is one of the perfect public schools you can attend to get the feel of college, without the impossible hassle of expenses. It's college; you'll have to pay up, but you just won't have to pay as much as a school like UGA where you get a good degree but you're just a number. Be sure to apply for plenty of grants and scholarships; they'll help you out tremendously.

    Will learn a lot

You will learn a lot! Like anywhere, what you put into your education is what you will get out. However, I have already had the chance to meet with several professors, deans, and even the president of GSU, and they are all really nice and very devoted to their students. Professors are great, and they are very passionate about their subjects! They are also required to have so many hours of office hours so that students needing help can get one-to-one attention!

    Will enjoy being here

Georgia Southern is awesome! There are over 250 student organizations, and, with the help of a few friends, you can start your own! The school is great for getting students involved on campus. They show free movies, bring in big name performers like Taylor Swift and Jay Z, and they always have something going on. Throughout the year, many student organizations can be found around campus giving away free food, t-shirts, etc! The football team is AWESOME! Also, Statesboro is not far from the beach! Savannah is only an hour away, and the shopping is great!

    Bang for the buck

You definitely will feel like your money is being spent well! Georgia Southern has a great campus life, but the academics are great too! Not only do you get great classes and are able to personalize your major, but you also have great opportunities outside of the classroom! Georgia Southern brings in great speakers to talk with the students. One year, President Bush came and later on Condalisa Rice came! Plus, you have many, many study abroad trips offered to you, as well as internships! Some study abroad trips cost as little as $500. Georgia Southern also holds job fairs and brings in employeers from all over the nation to talk with students that are looking for a job oppurtunity after graduation! The faculty and staff really help you network and prepare you for your future! Oh, and honors students do not have to buy books! They just return them when the semester is over! If you dont qualify for the honors program, you can apply to get in at any time while at GSU, even as early as your first semester!

    Tips for prospective students

Bring summer clothes! It is VERY hot in the summer and will be in the 80s-90s for a long time! Also, be prepared to workout! The food is great, so the freshman 15 is no joke! Also, bring some cash. There so many things to do for just a few bucks, and some cash will come in handy. Please get involved! There are so many organizations, there is something for everyone. Plus, it is a great way to meet friends!

Great for these types of students

Anyone that can handle the heat! Like I said, there is something for everyone. We have 250+ student organizations. If you are looking for challenging classes, they definitely have that, and you should check out the honors program! However, if you are not exactly an honors student, you take regular classes. All professors are required to have office hours to meet with students in need of help! If sports are your thing, the varsity teams are great! But, if you are not scholarship level, there are also club sports, which travel to other schools like the varsity team, as well as intramurals! If you're not into sports, thats okay too! There is something for everyone at Georgia Southern! Be sure to check out the various organizations!

I'm only a freshman, but so far I've found the classes to be both challenging and rewarding. Teachers urge the importance of critical thinking in the classroom. Involvement opportunities are everywhere at GSU, everyone is nice (faculty, staff, and most students), staff is helpful and understanding, the weather is good almost year-round, the campus is beautiful, and there are plenty of things to do in the Statesboro area.

Georgia Southern is constantly growing. For example, in the next two to three years, GSU is expected to house 25,000 or more students. But when I say GSU is growing, I'm not just talking about the number of students: I'm also talking about academic opportunities. Southern's Department of Information Technology is among the tops in the nation and in a recent study, Georgia Southern was reported as one of the most popular universities in the nation in terms of the percentage of accepted students who actually attend the school.

    Tips for prospective students

Do the research. Look at all your possible choices in detail and determine which one is right for you, and you alone. UGA is often affectionately referred to by many in the state of Georgia to be the best school in the state. This is a common misconception. The best school depends on the individual student. In terms of prestige, yes, UGA has the upper hand. However, it is vital to look at which school may be the most prestigious in five, ten, or fifteen years. You could be a part of GSU's rise to the top.

There are fraternities, sororities, club sports, intramural sports, clubs of all sorts, honor societies, a myriad of volunteer opportunities, and many other things. Also, if you want a good-looking campus, GSU is gorgeous, and the university is always looking at ways to improve. GSU is an extremely Green campus as well.

I learn what i need to know for my major coming out of college. I intern with a construction company and the classes that are most useful are the ones toward your major. The core is just preparation for the major classes. The professors teach well but you have to learn most on your own. Just study what they tell you to study and listen for key words and you will do fine.

Georgia Southern is a great school. Many people come for the parties. Not saying it is bad to have fun but just not too much fun or you will fail out. I go out only on the weekends if I have nothing to do. I went out maybe nine times this semester but I took eight-teen credit hours which is too much for any one to take.

    Tips for prospective students
