Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As a liberal arts school, Hastings requires you to take a wide variety of courses. Although these courses may not pertain to your intended major, they do allow for you to broaden your horizons as a student. The small student to teacher ratio allows for all students to get the help they need in classes to succeed.
Am enjoying being here The small town environment is really welcoming to all new students. While there isn't alot to do in Hastings, the town of Grand Island is a short 20 minute drive!
Bang for the buck Hastings is a fairly expensive school to attend, but they do provide every student with scholarship opportunities or work study.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to have a major in mind before you attend this school. I'm a biology major, and I know alot of my peers who had to quit this major after the first semester due to the rigorous course work. Find out what your major program requires and talk to professors/other students in this area to find out if it's the right major for you to take up!
Great for these types of students Alot of the students here are athletes. I'm one of those students, but there are alot of people here who don't participate in sports. The majority of the people who attend are from Nebraska and Colorado. This college is great for a student who likes the small town atmosphere and wants small class sizes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are some added requirements to take for liberal arts as compared to a public school, including a religion class. The small class sizes help with the learning environment of the classes. Overall the academics are pretty good.
Am enjoying being here There isn't a lot to do in the Hastings area. I know many of the students here who want to transfer and can't stand the small size. Of the current junior class, about only half are left of what they started out with freshmen year becasue of transfers. It has a small town vibe and still feels a lot like high school, some people are unfriendly. If you're from a small Nebraskan town you might feel at home though. I'm from Colorado Springs and I can't stand how there is nothing to do. The only thing to do on the weekends really is go to parties, which can be fun...but all people really do here on the weekends is drink. And anyways, there sometimes aren't any parties or they get busted very early so you end up hanging out in a dorm or something.
Bang for the buck Its an expensive school, but gives a lot of acadmeic, athletic and other scholarships to help you pay. If you ask about the scholarships you should apply for at least one sizeable one. If you get a good scholarship its not to bad.
Tips for prospective students Most of the students here are athletes, if you aren't one you may feel out of place. The cafeteria food is horrendous!!!!
Great for these types of students Athletes, people from small towns especially other parts of Nebraska.

Tips for prospective students I think that there are a few tips for prospective students if they are thinking about going to this school. First, i think that you should definetly find a major that you are thinking about going into and if you have found one then talk to that professor when you visit. I think that is helpful because for me I'm not sure what I want to major in but I have thought alot about education so when I planned my visit I also planned to meet with their education professor and I got to ask her questions that I wasn't sure about so that was very nice and helpful. One other tip that I think is important is noticing how the college feels to you.
Great for these types of students I think this college is great for any student as long as they don't mind going to a small college.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Hastings College is a small school that has Professors that care about each student. It is a very sports orientated school, as everyone place some kind of sport here.
Tips for prospective students Tips for this college are if you didn't do will on the ACT, not a super athlete, or not from Colorado or Hispanic background there is really no money for you. So apply apply apply for scholarships outside of the college.
Academic Rigor For my degree (Exercise Science) the curriculum was a joke. Other degrees are much more rigorous and do challenge the student.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a lot of fun, but if you make a mistake on the weekend or do something stupid that you want to keep to just your friends and yourself, its not going to happen. Everyone knows everything about everyone.
Food and Dining Food and Dinning are not the best, expect to be buying a lot of lunchables and Jimmy Johns.
What to do for fun The weekends are where the fun is, but you can make your own fun easily, but remember this is a small town.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Hastings College is a fantastic college overall. The teachers all care about their courses and their students. The students are all extremely kind to all other students.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you apply for as many Scholarships as possible, because the school is extremely expensive. There are quite a bit of scholarships you can receive through the college.
Academic Rigor Since the teachers all enjoy their subjects, they expect the most out of their students. If you need help, most of the teachers have an open door policy, and all enjoy helping each student. There is also a department called the Learning Center that will help edit papers and are there for people who need help, including helping find tutors.
Dorm Life There is always something going on in the dorms. As well, the Resident Assistants and the Resident Directors are always willing to help with anything needed.
Food and Dining The college has a catering service come in and do all the cooking. A lot of the food is very delicious, but there is always the chance of getting something that is not.
What to do for fun Most weekends the college puts on activities for the students to do. As well, all full time students receive a YMCA membership. Some weekends the local movie theatre has free movies for students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot So far I am working on LAP's or Liberal Arts Program so It doesn't actually count towards my major, which I think is a very annoying part to my education here, but that's what you will need to take into consideration when choosing a school that is LAP based.
Am enjoying being here Yes I love being at Hastings the only thing that is hindering my experience is the cost of the school.
Bang for the buck Way to expensive! Unless you have a high ACT, or are in a certain financial situation it will be very difficult to pay for this school. Yes there is on campus work that is available but it is still very difficult to pay for this school.
Tips for prospective students You need to have a very high ACT score for scholarships. Also have fun in moderation and study, study, study.
Great for these types of students Don't just come to this school for sports, make sure you look at the education and if they are going to give you that Band for you Buck.
