Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot If you take you education seriously I feel that it does not matter where you go to school, although a prestigious university doesn't hurt, it is what you make of it. Being that many of the professors teach at near by universities they know how to give a you challenge when needed. The classes are very informative and may of professors are dedicated to helping their students understand the material.
Am enjoying being here The campus is a pretty friendly place, surprisingly the financial aid department is too. When it comes to finding the answers to specific questions it can be tiresome to find a clear and accurate answer with time, patients, and dedication you WILL find an answer. Recently I have discovered the gym, there is a basketball court, ellipticals, treadmills, weights. etc and a pool about 25 meters in length, no I have yet to measure it but it looks about 25 meters so don't hold me to it. The campus also has a a nice student lounge with a a nice view. The student cafeteria has a very nice selection of food. If your not in the mood for what the college has on their lunch menu you can always walk across the street to subway, a little burger place, or a very good pizza place down the block. (Highly Recommended!)
Bang for the buck I would say the resources the college offers are worth the tuition, which is actually a saving from the cost of universities. Every department has a class room where you can find tutors on call for most of the day. Occasionally a professor will lead a review session which anyone is more than welcome to sit in on and ask questions. Most of the time the review is conducted based on the questions students have.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to take care of your financial aid, enrollment, and any other school related paper work well before the semester begins, no a week or two before. If you do decide to wail until the last minuet make sure you clear up you entire week! Oh, and bring an iPod or some form of entertainment while you wait on line for two hours. And no, trying to do things over the phone does not usually work, they like to give you the run around, take my word for it. When it comes to enrolling for classes talking to people before choosing a professor that would be right for you. Personally... I don't know many people pursuing my major so when looking at professors I check out rate my professor, it is not always accurate but it it much better than walking around in the dark.
Great for these types of students Students who are not Texas residents may want to start here. Although I am still paying out of state tuition it is much cheaper than the University of Houston, and the University of Houston Down-Town. I intend to transfer but this is a great way to save money. I have realized that many of my classmates are students who are currently attending other universities and taking classes at the community college to save money. The great thing is, most of the professors also teach at other universities, for example, my biology teacher also teaches at the University of Houston and Sam Houston University.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Yes, I am really learning a lot, basically we as students. All it requires to pay attention when instructors gives instructions and please take notes that will be so much easier for you to move on and pass . A tip when your instructor gives you a quiz make sure you keep it well save, so you can go back and review it. Why? it may show up some questions on your test and sometimes even on your finals.
Am enjoying being here Do I enjoy? I certainly do, Theirs no way I will not enjoy. The instructors of HCC have patience of helping you out just let them know and set up an appointment with them and they sure will help you. Even though we have tutors that help you on your class subjects.
Counselors are really nice to students and welling to help you.Tips for prospective students If you are planning to assist to HCC please visit any HCC Campus. Check on the counselors to give you a tour, explain how schedule works, and what classes are transferable if you are planning to go university, and is really big save up.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Houston Community College is somewhat affordable and most of the professors instructing the class are reasonable. However the HCC system needs to work on being a little more organized and together.
Dorm Life There's not exactly a dorm at the school....
Food and Dining There's not exactly food or dining at the school...
What to do for fun Drink a bunch of Red Bulls until it all makes sense.
Clubs and Activities None that I'm aware of.
Greek Life I tend to keep my Greek customs to my family and myself and to the church.

Tips for prospective students Take a community college serious as you would do a university. Just a tip, all of my credits transfer from HCC to a university.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot this is a great college, but i have to say it varies greatly by campus, i have been to two different ones, one i cant stand, and one i love. this is just like any other college, many students are mistaken to think it will be easier because it is a community college, they have high standards. Like in all schools it depends on the professors that you have, some are great and some, not so much. overall i love it, meet many great people, like my classes was helped with the financial aid process, and i am saving alot of money and getting my AP credits . over all it is great, i do suggest however you check out the campus and ask around about the on you want to go to. counted for with 3's while some universities require 4's
Tips for prospective students make sure you check campuses and professor ratings, take carefully detail into planning your schedule, this is because when you apply for say southwest it lists classes in all southwest campuses, specify campus because you might apply for classes at two campuses by accident having to spend the day going to different campuses.
Great for these types of students money savers

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Even though, HCC isn't the school I chose to go to, it isn't that bad. The professors will teach you one on one if you need help with something that they're teaching. They have tutoring centers to help students accomplish their work. The classes are about 1:25 student teacher ratio and the professors get personal because they know your name. The professors at HCC are caring and they will try to help you the best that they can.
Am enjoying being here I do enjoy being here, but at the same time, I'm in my own bubble, because most of my colleagues and friends are at different colleges and mostly in universities. There are few that attend HCC with me. But I get to make new friends, and they're all of different ages with great personalities and unique stories. The professors are all nice here as well. It's a positive, friendly and clean environment to be around.
Bang for the buck HCC is REALLY cheap compared to other universities. I plan to transfer to HBU the following academic year. It's quite expensive. But if you build a schedule and make good grades as well as apply to FAFSA and Scholarships, you're set to go! HCC is also a good place to take summer school classes, cheap and they transfer to your university if you were attending elsewhere in Houston. If you plan to transfer to another university after getting an associates degree, make yourself eligible for Phi Theta Kappa which is an honor society for students who have a 3.5 GPA and higher. Some universities have that organization offered there and they give scholarships because you were in good standing with HCC's Phi Theta Kappa! It's an excellent opportunity.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest that you apply earlier, see your counselor ASAP to register for classes. I would also suggest that you apply to FAFSA and get the finances taken care of, so that you don't have to struggle when paying for classes first and getting it refunded. It's a hassle to be dealing with that. I also suggest that you should take time to STUDY STUDY STUDY because that's all you do in college. STUDY. There's midterms, pop quizzes and the dreadful final exams. And the professors expect you to have followed the syllabus and read the text and study on your own. Attending classes when required is necessary too because you wouldn't want to pay for a class that you get dropped for just because you didn't come to class.
Great for these types of students Students who want the academics for a cheap price with the same curriculum, HCC is the best place for you. Students who work better in a small teacher student ratio then HCC is the best for you. HCC is also an indoor institute and the classes along with parking is within walking distance. If you're a student who fits this criteria, HCC is the best pick for you!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is an affordable and brilliant school that is accessible to everyone willing to further their education. Most (to be honest; not all)of the professors have a direct connection to their students, which means student could easy contact and interact with their professors. Also, the classes are small with an average of 21 students, that makes the learning environment conducive for everyone.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you share contact with at list one student if at all you decide not to communicate with the professor. This is important because you could easily miss an information since there are not many students in the classroom is not much
Academic Rigor Learning is easier than a 4year university class with many students. Here you have no reason to fail, because if you have a difficult or problem, you can easily reach the professor.
Dorm Life I am not aware Houston Community College has any dorm
Food and Dining The school provides cafeterias but no food is served unless on special occasions like festivals.
What to do for fun I would say the only notable fun times are festive periods
Bang for the buck It is Totally worth it. It's cheap, especially for the In-district students.

Great for these types of students Financially restricted students, Parents or maybe those who want to stay really close to home

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences HCC is a Community College designed to help students in many ways, such as financially or in planning their college career. The professors are a diverse group, but if you find one that has been rated well, their classes are usually worth taking. They truly get you involved in your education and in the school.
Tips for prospective students Do not take just any professor, look them up! There are some really great English, Math, and Biology professors. As for homework, the load is large, but not undo-able.
Academic Rigor When you take the correct class, it is challenging. However, if you get a lazy professor, then have no worries about the difficulty of the class. And don't expect to learn much either.
Dorm Life No dorms, but the campus life depends on which campus you attend. The campus in Sienna is best.
Food and Dining Well, they have a convenience store, not much else...
What to do for fun Join a group on campus! Some of the classes are fun too. But outside of scholastic's, they do not offer much.
Bang for the buck The price is not terrible, but it is really hit and miss with what you get out of a class. You really need to research your professor first.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus No traditions. But the libraries are wonderful, if you can search them out!
Great for these types of students Anyone really. HCC has a very diverse student body, and what is more they encourage you within a classroom to get to know and understand your fellow students.
Clubs and Activities Film clubs, voice clubs, theatre, women's groups. So many activities in this college!
Greek Life They do not have a great presence here.
Campus Safety Many security guards and other safety measures. You must have a college I.D in order to do anything on a campus!

What to do for fun There are a lot of events organized for student for example, the Lunar New Year event. There are professors that made presentation on Lunar New Year and cultural details on the topic, then they held a small party.
Clubs and Activities There are not many clubs and activities for students to participate. Also, they are not enthusiastic with new member. This spring, I sent emails to one of the club and ask to join but there is no reply email.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This is not a bad school for community college, but the learning could be more challenging. The classes I am taking & have taken seem a little remedial, what is seen in high school. However over all the teachers are awesome, they are all for the most part enthusiastic about teaching their subject, which is what gets students engaged.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking for enthusiastic teachers, check ratemyprofessor.com for the ones with good review, and prepare for high school review.
Academic Rigor Very remedial, not as challenging as what you would expect out of college level classes.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is a great school to get started with degree basics, and the prices are very helpful with budgets. I enjoyed most of professors who also taught at university levels. Many of the employees were helpful in my process of pursing my education goals.
Tips for prospective students Do not be afraid to ask questions. Continue to search for your answer if you aren't satisfied with the first answer. Get yourself educated in all you need to know to help your future and your personal goals.
Academic Rigor It is very important to keep your grades up, no matter what school you attend. It helps you advance in many areas and it also shows your comprehension in the courses. Although sometimes mistakes happen and things do occur, they are willing to help you in anyway available.
Dorm Life It is a community college,no dorms are available.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Houston Community College is an open and very friendly atmosphere. The staff is very knowledgeable and always one on one with it's students. Houston Community College allows for you to grow as a student and achieve your goals with an abundance of help.
Tips for prospective students Budget a little over what is needed for your classes just in case there is something that comes up related to the class you need. Get your textbooks as soon as you register for your classes and become familiar with the course as well as your class outline. Arrive to class early and communicate with your professor or academic advisor if there are any concerns or questions.
Academic Rigor If this is your fisrt semester then I would advise to do the minium of six hours to see how you transition from High School to College with the courses that you have selected.
Make use of all of your learning outlets such as the library ,tutors, classmates, and professors to help you succeeded.Dorm Life Keep your dorm room in an orderly fashion and not like your room at home with your parents. Remember that you are living with other individuals and everyone has to work collectively to keep a sense of order.
Food and Dining Eating on campus is always cheaper than eating out at a public place for all meals.
What to do for fun Join a school organization and become involved in the activities that is taking place while you are on your education journey.
Bang for the buck The course fee's are very reasonable and affordable for anyone to afford even those whom have to work and pay for their tution out of their pockets.
Great for these types of students All types of students, all campus are multicultral and all demographics intertwine with each other for the common good of the school.
Clubs and Activities There are many activities that you can become involved in expericnece the same as if you were on a university.
Campus Safety There is continued patrol from the Public Safety Department to where you have office's in plain clothes and uniform covering all the campuses.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The class quality and admin has been consistently terrible across three different campuses over two years. Their billing is very shady, and they keep sending new bills for old courses from a couple years ago along with strange fees that didn't exist when I took the courses. There's no way to challenge or question the weird bills except talk to student employees who are as clueless as I am about it.
Tips for prospective students Warning: the quality of the education here is not worth the ongoing billing issues and inability to stand up for yourself against their nefarious billing errors. They will withhold all of your credits unless you pay their erroneous bills. I feel I've been completely scammed, and you probably will too when you have this experience.
Academic Rigor Over the two years I attended, I consistently encountered instructors who were underpaid and under-qualified to be teaching their respective subjects. In many cases, students knew far more about the subject matter than the instructors. In several cases, the books taught us more than in-class instruction.
Dorm Life There are no dorms here, but I think UH offers their spare dorms to HCC students. The recreation available is a coke machine, an ancient plush chair with the odor of ancient cigarette smoke and a 20 year old Sears Roebuck wooden pool table missing a ball.
Food and Dining Coke machine.
What to do for fun There is no fun to be had on an HCC campus in my experience.
Bang for the buck For the same money, I could have gone to Lone Star and gotten an awesome campus. I could also have just gone to UH to begin with for about the same price. HCC is not easier at all due to poor instruction. Their scam-like hidden pricing and billing mistakes that cannot be disputed or questioned seal the deal. HCC is a rip-off and a joke on all angles, no matter how nice I try to be about it.
Great for these types of students HCC is great for those who don't mind or will never notice the billing tricks and those who don't have another college experience against which to compare. Once you've attended a real college, though, you will never return to HCC.
Clubs and Activities I've never seen any clubs or activities on an HCC campus.
Campus Safety While I was in class, my instructor's motorcycle was stolen from the parking lot. He told us it was the third time in a year he is aware of crime happening in the parking lot at that campus. He loved that bike and the topic was a sad/sore one for the remainder of the semester. Needless to say, on breaks we always checked on our cars after that. I never really felt safe on campus, despite the ineffective security guard who drives around in a golf cart with the blue flashing beacon.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It's very hard to learn if you don't motivate yourself to learn. It's my first semester here and I think it's an overall great school; however, if you don't learn to learn the material for yourself, the work can get overwhelming on test days. The professors serve as the facilitators of the classroom but it's the student's job to learn.
Am enjoying being here I love the overall atmosphere of the college. It reminds me of high school all over again and community college is very different fro universities. Considering how I transferred from Houston Baptist University, I would have to say that this has a comfortable social atmosphere. The professors are friendly and people are cooperative when it comes to group assignments.
Bang for the buck Although it's a community college, I don't agree with the out-of district fees; however, I do agree that it is cheaper than university tuition. The secret that most universities don't tell you is that their professors work part time at community college so you are getting the same quality education at a cheaper price. Pretty neat if you ask me.
Tips for prospective students Some tips that I would give for prospective students to fill out their FASFA forms as fast as possible because it's a first come first serve basis. I also highly recommend that students get familiar with their degree plans and core requirements before picking classes. Don't trust all advisors but really trust in what you know or else you will end up paying for classes you don't need.
Great for these types of students Don't get discouraged! At the end of the day as long as you know you are getting an education, that is all that matters.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I would rate Houston Community College as a B-. I believe that there should be more work given out to average out grades other then just four test grades. I also feel as if though there should be professors, whose eagerness for teaching their subject, are put in place. Its really hard for any student to maintain the drive in any subject if their professor's aspiration is not present.
Tips for prospective students I'm only a freshman, therefore I can only speak for freshmen. Coming out of high school does not at all prepare you for your first year entering college. I can only tell you to stay focus and pick classes along with the class times that work for you.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is quite easy to follow if given one. Most if not all are really helpful. Every chapter covered is place in your syllabus. Every test date is covered in your syllabus. All in all, it's a win win situation when it comes to your academic rigor. Everything you need to know is there.
Campus Safety Security level is greatly enforced.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences HCC is a very helpful school. It saves you money and helps get you adjusted to the college schedule. You get to begin learning the ropes of college while still being close to home.
Tips for prospective students If you need to save money, go here! This school is very helpful for people who have life situations that could interfere with their school work if they were in a university like children, marriage, mandatory working, etc.
Academic Rigor The curriculum is simpler than universities so if you transfer, you will still have to make an adjustment academically. The teachers are very understanding which is something you probably won't get much of at a university.
Dorm Life HCC doesn't have there own official dorms. They share dorms with the University of Houston. It's fun and exciting to be with the university students and ask questions about UH if you're transferring.
Food and Dining There is ALWAYS something going on in the auditorium or multi-purpose room which allows all students to come get free food. Really good food too! And there are vending machines everywhere with amazing snacks.
What to do for fun I like to get involved in clubs. There is a club for everyone. From ethnic groups to religious groups to honor societies.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Houston Community College has campuses all over Houston from the Northeast to Southwest. So even if you're close to the Houston area, you can most likely find an HCC.
Great for these types of students Like I said above, HCC is specifically for people who want to go to school but can't handle the curriculum of universities.
Clubs and Activities There is at least one club for everyone and for the overachievers there are multiple.
Campus Safety I've been at HCC for a whole year, I haven't heard about any criminal activity at any of the campuses and I always see at least one police when I'm at my campus.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors don't joke around when it comes to academics, but they are interesting and friendly people. The instruction is relevant to all exams and the classes are small enough to provide an exceptional learning environment.
Am enjoying being here The students and staff at the Katy campus and the Stafford campus are very nice. You may encounter someone you know in the HCC hallways because it is a popular choice for local high school graduates who want to save some money or for high schoolers who want a head start. I enjoy the time I spend on campus, the layouts are simple enough not to get lost and you have plenty of parking!
Bang for the buck I am happy that community college exists for this very reason. The classes are reasonably priced and the bookstore offers used books at a reduced cost. When you're finished with the books you can even sell them back! There are also areas where students have posted flyers for books they need to sell and you can save a lot of money by contacting these students and buying their books.
Tips for prospective students Talk to the counselors any time to have a question. Get to know the HCCS website because it can be a bit difficult to navigate and sometimes it is a challenge to find what you are looking for.
The college only offers certificates and Associates Degrees, so make sure you sign up for the right program before you pay for your classes!Great for these types of students Great for students who: want to save money, need to have night or weekend classes, live at home and want a small campus.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have had the luxury of working with some of the best professors I have seen in a long time. The professors work around the clock to help students understand the material and provide as much assistance as possible with other subjects as well. Professors are generally professional in attitude, providing the material, and accurate and timely with keeping up with emails and grading assignments. I have had so many teachers ask questions what I want to be when I grow up and they help me seek my niche in academics and enjoy what I'm learning by engaging in lab tutorials, library use, interaction with other students, and other study methods I've found very useful!
Am enjoying being here I enjoy my time here at Houston Community College because each class has taught me to open my eyes to the world and study and appreciate and value my education for every second it's worth. My professors are often humorous, challenging, strict, friendly, and very professional. I don't regret this decision!
Bang for the buck I've learned so much more from my classes from just not only the academics, but we even manage to squeeze in time to discuss life matters, such as current issues and how to change our society.
Tips for prospective students Bring your documents upon registration and carefully research what you are interested in becoming and then go to a counselor to help you map out your career goals
Great for these types of students HCC is very fitting for students who are motivated to getting the task done, engaging in their academics, and trying their best to understand the material and give each class 110% effort and dedication.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Houston Community College is a wonderful two year institution, the professors are great and the classrooms are small so students are able to interact with their professors. everyone there is very helpful and wants to see you succeed.
Tips for prospective students prospective students should take advantage of all the things the school has to offer. join as much clubs as possible, and also take advantage of the free tutoring sessions. professors are always there to help, so try to communicate with them constantly.
Academic Rigor Houston Community College is a college so future students should not expect easy work. the professors do not spoon feed, so you would have to do lots of studying and reading on your own.
Dorm Life because Houston Community College is a two year college, the institution does not offer dorms.
Food and Dining HCC provides a student lounge where students are able to eat and interact with one another. the lounge is very spacious and always clean.
What to do for fun HCC has many activities and clubs for students; such as, football, cheer leading, baseball, choir, etc. . .
Bang for the buck no costly tuition! HCC is very affordable, the books in the book room are also very cheap. you should not expect to spend over 2000 per semester.
Great for these types of students HCC is great for students who want to get a head start in their college educational career. also, for hard working students who don't mind saving a little extra cash and acquiring great education at the same time.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Houston Community College is a great school for students that have families or jobs. It is also a great school if you are planning to transfer to a four year university. Lastly, HCC has many different class times and campuses to accommodate their students.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend going to the HCC campus near your home and speaking with an advisor. The sooner you speak with an advisor the sooner you can decide whether HCC is the community college for you.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is average. It is pretty good seeing that HCC is connected to the University of Houston. If you complete an Associates degree at HCC you are automatically accepted into the University of Houston.
Dorm Life There are no dorms here because it is a community college. Although I believe that if you attend Houston Community College Central campus you can live in the dorms at University of Houston Main Campus.
Food and Dining There is no cafeteria or anything like that. They do have the bookstore which sells food like snacks and lunch items.
What to do for fun Houston Community College is located at different campuses all over Houston, Texas and a few in Katy, Texas. Therefore, they is plenty to do . You just have to find what you are interested in doing.
Bang for the buck HCC is a community college, therefore you will be able to complete core degree requirements way cheaper than completing them at a four year university. If finances are an issue I would defiantly suggest HCC.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I am unsure of any unusual locations or traditions.
Great for these types of students HCC is great for every type of student. It is great for students with jobs, families, returning students, or recent high school graduates.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty clubs to join on campus. You just have to find out what you are interested in.
Greek Life I am unsure of the greek life available at HCC.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is an amazing school, located at all points of Houston. I attend Houston Community College-Downtown because they are the only community school that has a Fashion Program, that is focused on keeping a small classroom and one on one interacting with students.
Tips for prospective students Do your homework. Make sure that the major you want is transferable to a university. Make sure that HCC is the school for you.
Academic Rigor HCC is a very open school All types, walks, religion, and race come here. Everyone is accepted. The professors treat everyone the same. They help you get to your end result, which is to learn, transfer, or graduate.
Dorm Life You can not live on campus, but there are apartments and room mate style living quarters in the area for you to live in if you want to be close. Most students commute from there home life there.

All in all it is an excellent school, I can't wait to graduate.
Tips for prospective students Know what you want to do before wasting time on classes you don't need. There are people here that would love to assist you in deciding what you want to do..Use them!
Academic Rigor The final is made primarily by the head of the department..makes the finals rather challenging. Every class also has a group project and some kind of paper that is due as well. Students will need to take time to do them, but the classes aren't impossible to get A's in.
Dorm Life Didn't have a dorm.
Food and Dining Sometimes the prices are a little high, but everything I've had so far is delicious.
