Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned so much already from ISU. I came to school having no idea what I wanted to do and no direction towards any specific career path. Illinois State helped me figure this out quickly my freshman year through its variety of General Education classes. It really opened my eyes to all of the options you have once you begin your education here.
Am enjoying being here I love being at ISU. There are so many clubs and organizations that you can be a part of. Any talent, hobby, or activity you enjoy you can find here. Becoming a part of the Greek community here has been something that I really enjoy. It's a great way to meet people, get involved, and learn new things about yourself, others, and your school.
Bang for the buck I believe that as a public university the price is right for ISU. The only suggestion I would have when it comes to financial aid is to apply early and quickly. Because it's a public school it's much harder to be awarded any grants or scholarships from the university.
Tips for prospective students - Come to collage with a completely open mind. You'll do a lot of changing here and it will all be for the better.
- Get involved. Meeting new people is not always easy so join a club, sorority, frat, sports team, band, or study group asap. Doing this will really help you meet the people here that will stick with you forever.
- Study hard and don't wait till the last minute. Classes here can be hard and overwhelming if you don't stay on top of your workload.Great for these types of students - Nursing Majors

Am enjoying being here I love being here, and on breaks I can't wait to go back
Tips for prospective students You should get involved, there are clubs, sports, and activities for everyone. You meet so many new people and just enjoy the four years you have here. It's a great school, its not to big but not to small, its perfect.
Great for these types of students If your someone who enjoys a big school with a small school feeling you will get it here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned so much from attending Illinois State University in just the two years I have been there. There is a great variety of different kinds of classes you are able to take depending on what you are interested in. Most of the general education classes are taught in large lecture classrooms with about 200 students. This could be difficult for many people, but for me it made me focus harder and push myself to learn. If you are having trouble in classes though, the professors at ISU are more than willing to meet with thier students during office hours. Not to mention that are plenty of free tutoring sessions. It is a campus full of many opportunities!
Am enjoying being here I could not imagine myself anywhere else. I love being at ISU and half the time I don't even want to go home for breaks. The clubs and activities on campus are endless. There is not one person that should feel like they don't belong because of the wide range of activities that are available. I personally decided to go greek and join a sorority and it was the best decision I could have ever made. The friendships I have made will be life long and they have helped me become the person I am.
Bang for the buck Being a public school ISU has an average tuition. However, because ISU is a public school it is that much harder to recieve grants and scholarships. I would say apply for as many possible as early as possible.
Tips for prospective students Advice I would give to prospective students would be to have an open mind. If you are coming to ISU with a group of friends from high school make sure to go outside of your comfort zone and make as many new friends as possible. I would also say to join as many clubs and become involved, because this may be the last opportunity to really be involved in something because your join the real world.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Really great school for many different majors. I am a business major, and could not be happier with the professionalism and personal attention for all of the professors in the college of business. When here that Illinois State is a big school with a small school feel its not just a line to get you to come here. It's true you are not a number at Illinois State University.
Am enjoying being here I couldn't be happier with my decision to attend this school. I have met a ton of great people, and I still have two years to go! Illinois State being the first public school in Illinois has many student organizations that have been around for a long time. With over 300 student organizations on campus you will find at least one the will fit you. Illinois State is definitely my home away from away
Bang for the buck Illinois State is by no means cheap, but it is a great value. A degree from Illinois State will be similar to a degree from many other big schools. Illinois State is a very respectable school, and is making tons of improvements to stay that way. Illinois State is a great school now and will continue to be great far into the future.
Tips for prospective students As I stated above, Illinois State although a great value, is not cheap. Look into scholarships still, and find every bit of help you can. Also, when you come to visit Illinois State look at all the residents halls. We have four distinctly different halls. Someone might love Watterson Towers for example, but another might hate it. Find the residence hall that is that right fit for you, and you will enjoy Illinois State much more.
Great for these types of students Students who want attention from teachers will be very happy with their choice to attend Illinois State University. Illinois State has a great nursing, teaching, and business program. If one of the programs I just listed fits you, when you tour hear check out those colleges. Finding the right specific college fit is just as important as finding the right university.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Throughout high school I was in mostly honors classes. Illinois State University has kept me academically challenged without completely overwhelming me. All of the professors I have had are very knowledgeable and willing to help as much as they can. If you are struggling or wanting extra help, ISU offers many tutoring opportunities in the Visor Center, which is another great avenue to get assistance. ISU professors really pride themselves on giving students the opportunity to get the grades they would like as long as they put in the effort studying and getting extra help if needed.
Am enjoying being here Illinois State University has been a very inviting place from when I had my first visit, to the day I left for summer break and they continue the hospitality throughout summer with mailings to keep students updated. The University does a great job having activities for students to go to such as hypnotists; Reggie Nights which are free bowling, billiards, and karaoke; and many other opportunities for students that don't want to get involved the partying scene. The friendly environment created by the Quad and interaction between students has definitely made my college experience more enjoyable. I love all of the girls on my floor and have met many great people both as students and staff. On my first day of college, I never thought that I'd actually want to go back, but I'm counting down the days for school to start up again!
Bang for the buck In my opinion, Illinois State University does a great job with including extras in their tuition. Most events that are hosted and tutoring in the Visor Center are free of charge. Despite this, some sporting events are not free, which I found to be quite irritating for people that didn't buy the Red Alert Pass (Which I purchased and found as quite a good deal) because these tickets can add up quickly.
Tips for prospective students -Bring Command Hooks! I used them to hang up everything from jewelery, purses, keys, posters, and much more!
-Personally, I don't like having dirty people on my bed, so I opted for a futon. They take up a lot of room, but they are great for entertaining and having a place for guests to spend the night.
-Keep your door open when you are in the room, especially during the first week! I'm a fairly shy person, but I met so many wonderful people by simply having my door open because when people walk by they'll stop and say hi.
-Meet your neighbors! At first, the girls next door were very loud, so I never really got to know them, but now that I did, I'm moving in with them! Each of us have driven to each others' houses this summer to hang out.
-Get involved. I joined a co-ed basketball rec league team and loved it. It's a great way to stay active and meet new people.
-Go to class. It sounds simple, but in reality when you walk down the hall & see your friends getting ready to go out, you really don't want to go. I made it a point to say that going to class is not an option, which in turn, helped my grades.Great for these types of students I really feel like Illinois State University is a great school for everyone, and I'm not just saying that because I go there. Yes, it is a big school, but they do a great job of making it feel like it is a small school in certain aspects. Class size range from 15 to an upwards of 300 people, but I never felt overwhelmed, and I don't like being bombarded in a ton of people. As for an out-of-academic-life, ISU has a party scene, but if you don't want to go out, there is a TON to do otherwise so ISU is good for people that like to go out and have fun, or people that would rather stay in.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot During my first year of college at Illinois State University I have learned an abundant amount of information. Being an individual who is studying psychology has only boosted my confidence in pursing my profession in the business world. Illinois State University hasn't only taught me a lot of things academically, I have also learned a lot about life in general; like the fact that I need to get adapted to a more diverse environment and how to actually survive the college life on my own. Attending Illinois State University has expanded my intellectual ability as well as my attention span, and as a current student I can honestly say that I have learned a lot here.
Am enjoying being here My first year of college was amazing! I met a lot of unique individuals. The campus is very diverse which is something that is very important to me because it gives individuals the opportunity to go outside of their comfort zone. I also enjoy being here because the professors show interest/concern in your education and the peers around you also show interest/concern in your education. Also at Illinois State University there is an academic advising building that offers a lot of help with any course, which is another reason I enjoy being here. The environment here is very friendly! The only thing that would make me love this school even more is being involved in some type of club, sport, or organization.
Tips for prospective students Apply for as many scholarships as possible especially if you receive very low- no income. Know the difference between work and play! Remember that your education comes first and that you are paying for this. Get to know all of your professors! Get involved!
Great for these types of students Illinois State University is great for all types of students, especially ones that are hard working, motivated, dedicated, and determined!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers at this school are unlike any high school teacher; they really care about you and whether or not you pass or fail. They are always willing to make time for you after or outside of class, meet personally and talk with you about your grades and give you opportunities to do extra credit. The school also just opened a tutoring center which is FREE and open to all students! They offer tutoring in a variety of classes, which has greatly helped me out in the past with bringing my grades up to my satisfaction! All of the subjects you can choose from are SO interesting, whether they apply to your major or are just general education. I learned so much about other areas of study other than my own.
Am enjoying being here Illinois State also has a great social atmosphere. I have met so many nice, fun people. It is a really BIG school, but I feel like I see people I know everywhere I go. Joining clubs and going to the events the school throws also helps you meet a lot of people and have fun even if you're not big on partying. There's something for everyone here!
Bang for the buck College definitely burns a hole in your pocket, but for being a state school Illinois State does not ask too much of you when it comes to tuition, especially if you are considered an in-state student. However it really helps to apply for as many scholarships as you can and FAFSA has definitely helped my family out a lot with the expenses as well.
Tips for prospective students Don't be scared! College should be some of the best times of your life; embrace it. Join clubs and get involved and meet new people, but DON'T let your social life take over. You also need to make time for your classes and school work. You need to actually go to class and take it seriously as well. Don't write off a class as a blow off and think you can get away with not going. All they ask of you is 50 to 75 minutes of your time per class, so just roll out of bed and go, even if it's in your pajamas!

Will enjoy being here Campus is fantastic. Enjoy the Bone!!
Bang for the buck Financial aid is hard to secure sometimes, so stay on top of funds. Regardless of the price, ISU will provide you a quality education for a price that isn't as high as many other university schools.
Tips for prospective students take a visit. i recommend a personal tour instead of a group tour.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Although I thought my general education classes would be boring, I really enjoyed my classes last semester. They were interesting yet challenging and I feel like I walked away from all of them knowing more about the subject and myself as a student.
Am enjoying being here There is always something going on on campus. I does not feel like we are in the town of Bloomington/Normal, rather we are our own community. The people and experiences thus far have been great.
Bang for the buck The school is a little pricey. I know it is a state institution and therefore there are not many scholarships offered by the school. Outside scholarships really do help.
Tips for prospective students -live on campus!!
-get involved quickly after arriving on campusGreat for these types of students There is something for everyone at ISU. It is an especially great school for education majors!!!

Am enjoying being here I absolutely LOVE Illinois State University. The campus is the perfect set up! Nothing is too far away and it is so easy to make friends in the dorms! The food is also good, which helps alot with the transitioning process.
Bang for the buck The only thing I could say to future students would be to apply for finicial aid early!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It is hard to get into certain classes and getting on a personal level with teachers. Freshman and Sophomore classes are typically all intro and gen ed classes filled sometimes up to 650 people. There is no challenge, just a medium to accommodate everyone.
Am enjoying being here It is a beautiful campus, but if you do not want to party or join a greek affiliation, it is tough finding things to do on the weekends. Plus, if you get stuck living in Watterson Towers is a bit tough getting used to as a freshman. Defiantly not a good dorm to live in freshman year.
Bang for the buck ISU gave me NO financial aid. All I got was a government subsidized loan. For as much money as I am paying a year, I should be able to take different classes to figure out what it is I truly want to do. Unfortunately, that is not allowed at ISU and switching majors is my only option for getting a taste of different classes.
Tips for prospective students Try to avoid Watterson Towers if you do decide to come here. It is very hard to meet new people since each floor is secured with different keys. Also, changing majors is a bit of a hassle, so if you are not sure of what you want to do, like myself, it is difficult here taking classes to figure out what you want to study.
Great for these types of students If you know, or have a good idea, of what you want to do.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I'm going to be an elementary teacher, and Illinois State is the best university for education. I've heard it from a lot of academic professionals. I know I will learn so much about teaching. I can't wait!
Will enjoy being here Of course I'm going to miss my family and friends here, but I know I will meet a lot of new people. I love the campus at ISU too. I feel like it will be a home away from home.
Bang for the buck It's expensive, and I could really use some help paying for it, so my parents are helping, but they also have to pay for my sister who's going to North Central College in Naperville, IL. That's also really expensive. I know in the end it's worth it though, and my parents want to see me go to school and be successful regardless of the money factor. Help would be appreciated though! :)
Tips for prospective students ISU is a big school. If you want to go here, I recommend a visit before you make your decision.
Great for these types of students Any kind of education major should definitely apply and attend ISU.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences In three sentences I would say that ISU is great at offering that big school campus with a small school feel. It has perfected that to the tee. It also makes you feel safe on campus. Lastly, there is always something to do on the weekends; there is never a dull moment.
Tips for prospective students Do not waste your freshmen year just because it is your freshmen year. Work hard, go to tutoring, and ask your professors questions. Freshmen year is two semesters worth of your GPA.
Academic Rigor 4- I personally think it depends on the major you choose. The sciences for me would be rigorous at any school so of course at ISU they are rigorous. Other fields of study however, such as Psychology, English, or History I do not find rigorous at all. I have heard from multiple sources the math program and the nursing program at this school is very rigorous.
Dorm Life 4- It depends what dorm building you are staying in. Hewitt-Manchester and Tri-Towers are renovated so they are nice. However Watterson and South side were not renovated so they were not nice this year. However, Watterson is going to be renovated by this coming fall.
Food and Dining 2- The dining center food after the first few months gets old and you become sick of it.
What to do for fun 5- The school offers a variety of events each from open mic nights, to comedy shows, to concerts. There is always something to do.
Campus Safety excellent.

Academic Rigor I am a Deaf ed major and my case load is heavy with 17 credit hour per semester but I know it will pay out in the end so I can be the best I can be.
Dorm Life Dorm life is great I have met so many great people and life long friends.
Food and Dining I eat mostly at Watterson and subway the food is very good.
What to do for fun there is always something to do or something going on from bowling, comedy shows ,ping pong and a movie theater.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Illinois State University is a wonderful school full of amazing opportunities. All staff strive to provide the best working and learning environment for their students. Gladly they teach and learn.
Tips for prospective students Come to ISU ready for and open to all the opportunities that will inevitably come your way.
Academic Rigor ISU challenges it's students to be all they can be and to work at the best of their abilities.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms at ISU is an amazing experience. Living among your friends soon feels like living among your family. The residential services strive to comply to any and all needs of the residents.
Food and Dining The quality of food and comfort of dining at ISU is one of the reason I'm very thankful to be attending this school. With friendly vegetarian and vegan options, the dining centers make it easy for me to feed myself.
What to do for fun Student organizations and the UPS (University Program Board) provide fun and exciting programs for students to attend many times a week. Fliers are posted all around campus about when and where to go to find the program they're throwing for you to enjoy yourself.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus To name a unique location on ISU's campus, most would mention the Watterson dorms. This dorm is the tallest building from Chicago to St. Louis and is the tallest dorm in the country.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences illinois state university is a wonderfully diverse university. since being here, i have learned so many life lessons as well as the tools needed to become a wonderful teacher; as they are wonderful as well. all in all, illinois state is not a decision i regret.
Tips for prospective students stay focused and learn to balance your work, school, extracurricular and relationships, and you should do fine.
Academic Rigor challenging but in a way to get you to critically think about why and what this work can do for your future.
Dorm Life i had the best 2 years of my life in the dorm. you meet so many different people from different cultures, but they are here for the same reason as you so it's not hard to make friends!
Food and Dining got to love watterson and linkins ding hall! food is amazing (we even have steak and lobster every once in a while).
What to do for fun join a frat, sorority, a dance team, poetry, whatever! what ever you want to pursue as an extracurricular, we have it!
Clubs and Activities considered rsos, they get to go all over the united states to compete so that's always fun!
Greek Life have all greeks here except for alpha kappa alpha(aka).

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It is a great school, with incredible professors. They teach you a lot of new, exciting information that can be taken with you in the future.
Am enjoying being here Illinois State is a comfortable school. It is like a home away from home.
Bang for the buck There are certain things that can be pricey, but it can be very beneficial. Illinois State offers unlimited food plans, and a good membership at their fitness facility. There are also many inexpensive activities offered at the campus, like double feature Fridays (Two movies, not yet released on DVD, for the cost of a dollar.)
Tips for prospective students Your school work should be your main priority. It is a big transition from high school to college, and you want to academically perform your best.

Am enjoying being here I love being here! During the week I go to classes and get my stuff done and then I have a great weekend with my friends! I've made a lot of new friends here that I am positive will be close to me for the rest of my life.
Bang for the buck ISU is an absolutely excellent deal. I have not heard of another college in Illinois that gives you the education that ISU does for the same price. The education college here is amazing and highly respected.
Tips for prospective students Whatever you do, do not live in Southside. Their food court is terrible and their dorm rooms are so tiny. It literally looks like a prison cell.
Great for these types of students Education majors! The teacher ed program at ISU is excellent! I have also heard that the business program here is really good too. We have a business frat here that I recommend all business majors to get involved in. It looks really good on your resume.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I feel as though my education level has gone up a lot since becoming a student at Illinois State. In my freshman year I have had the opportunity to learn about not only my major, but also a large spectrum of topics that will help me in the future.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoy going to ISU! The people are friendly, and there are always opportunities to make new friends. Whatever your major, there are lots of activities you can be involved in, from major oriented clubs, like Sports Marketing Club or WZND radio, to sports, such as football, cheerleading, or hockey. ISU also is known for the Fell Arboretum, which covers a large part of the campus and quad. It looks absolutely beautiful throughout the year, especially fall. The quad makes getting from class to class very easy. ISU also provides a transportation system allowing students to get from one part of campus to the other, and the Bloomington-Normal busses also drive around campus to parts of town, such as the Eastland Mall, which is great for students. ISU's dorms are nice and ISU's housing offers many themed floors which allows students to get to know other people in their major. Many of the dorms have dinning centers which serve a variety of good food in an all you can eat style.
Bang for the buck The price for ISU is very reasonable as it is a public university.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This school has classes that are not as difficult large universities and private schools, yet teaches the same material and concepts. How much you learn depends most on how much you study.
Am enjoying being here If you are from out of state you may have trouble adjusting, but there are many programs and events around campus where you can make friends.
Bang for the buck Most students here need to take out loans unless their parents pay for their tuition or they have a job. This college may be inexpensive compared to Illinois colleges, but without in-state tuition and grants the price increases a lot. If you are from out-of state you should seriously consider how much you are willing to pay before attending this college. There are few scholarships available and most are extremely competitive. It is difficult to find campus job opportunities.
Tips for prospective students Fill out your application early if you want to be accepted into a competitive degree program. Most scholarships must be applied for and are not just awarded when you apply to the college. Most scholarships have a April deadline.
Great for these types of students Great for outgoing, friendly people who like to party or just have fun. Very supportive of members of minority groups. Great teaching and business programs.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I definitely feel like I have already learned so much in my first semester at Illinois State. I was skeptical as to how much I was actually going to get out of an education at ISU when I first started with my classes, but I can honestly say that I have gotten a lot of the classes I have taken so far. I also feel that the professors were professional and efficient educators.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love the campus. I feel like I am enjoying my college experience so much already. There is always something going on around campus. It is just a great environment and I am so happy I made ISU my college.
Bang for the buck In my opinion Illinois State give you a great rate. It really is an excellent college for the amount you end up paying per year. There are also so many housing and dining options that it makes it easy to find the right plan for you at the right cost.
Tips for prospective students -Get all of your financial aid done early. Every little bit helps.

Tips for prospective students when you are applying to the university and know which major you might be interested in, put this on your application, avoid putting undeclared because getting into programs is easier when you first apply than once you are a student because there are many more requirements you need to meet. also, come and visit the campus, don't decide whether you like it from pictures on the internet.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Illinois State University is a reasonably priced school located in central Illinois. The school has a diverse community of about 21,000 graduate and undergraduate students. The students are heavily involved on campus and contribute to a sense of community.
Tips for prospective students Apply early for ISU because it can take a long time for your application to get processed. Make sure to arrive early for your move in date so you can beat some of the lines and heat. Try and buy your school books online because the school bookstore is overpriced.
Academic Rigor It all depends on the class and teacher but most are not to hard. Most teachers work with students on class expectations and assignments. Generally, the bigger the class the less challenging it will be.
Dorm Life The dorm life is good at ISU. It depends on the dorm you are in but you can live on a coed floor or a floor grouped with people from your major.
Food and Dining The food at ISU is really good. The menu varies and there are a lot of holiday specials that the school offers throughout the year. Overall I have no complaints about the food.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Some of the professors are kind of crazy, but if you're paying attention you might actually learn a thing or two! I have been very lucky to get only one class taught by a grad student, and I did not have a good experience with that class, however it really is different for everyone and how you learn.
Am enjoying being here I love all of the people I have met here, and I have yet to have a boring weekend. I love living in the dorms and taking part in as many of the campus activities I can. I would never miss a football game or basketball game! Especially the basketball games against Bradley (our rivals)! The food in the dining centers is REALLY good, especially compared to some horror stories I've heard of how it was a few years back (before they started fixing up campus and making it as nice as it is now). I love ISU, and I'm so glad I ended up here.
Bang for the buck Eh, college is expensive, what can you do about it? Just apply for scholarships and stuff. As long as you're learning something and you like where you are, which I definately do, that should be what matters.
Tips for prospective students Watterson has the biggest dorm rooms. Tri-towers has an excellent food court (despite limited variety) and is largely considered the best one on campus. Hewett/Manchester are nice, but if you don't like going outside I wouldn't live here, as you have to walk two blocks to Watterson for food.
I have loved living in Southside, but unfortunately it won't be available next year, which means reduced housing! So get your housing contract early if you're planning on going here. I was placed into supplemental housing my first semester, which wasn't the end of the world, but it left me feeling rather indifferent towards living in the dorms. After two semesters living in Southside, I absolutely love it, and I am really sad Southside won't be serving as a dorm after this year. I'll miss it for sure.
And if you want to make friends, it's simple, get out and talk to people, and get involved! Leave your door open the first week of school, and introduce yourself to your neighbors.
If you are feeling particularly school spirited, I would advise going to the Alamo II or Campustown for fun ISU shirts and other stuff. It's cheaper than the bookstore in the Bone.Great for these types of students -Education

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot A lot of amazing courses, some annoying ones, but for the most part the professors really make an effort to make the course content accessible and at least a little enjoyable. If you are willing to put the effort in you will learn a TON. Professors and T.A.s are always willing to help out, they have several different tutoring centers and classmates are always open to studying.
Am enjoying being here I love ISU! I love the campus, I love the people, I even love the classes. Everyone here is so friendly, the campus is beautiful and always has something going on. The school plans so many activities and off campus events are fun, too. Perfect location, in a small town, but right by a bigger city. I'm honestly never bored or lonely. ISU made the transition from high school to college effortless, it truly feels like home.
Bang for the buck Such a great deal, especially compared to other big Illinois universities. They are super helpful with financial aid and flexible with payments. They also make getting a job on campus or doing a work-study program very easy.
Tips for prospective students Visit! I didn't know how much I would love Illinois State until I took a campus tour. Be open minded and come see everything we have to offer! Once you're here, get involved! Join everything! Immerse yourself in your school. Live in the dorms, make friends and participate in at least some of the school's organized activities. They usually end up being a lot of fun!
Great for these types of students Hard working, fun-loving students who are looking for a good education that won't take over there life. ISU is full of friendly, open minded people who are looking to make friends and participate in all different kinds of activities. Illinois State University is a wonderful place for the well-rounded student looking to learn a lot in and out of the classroom.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot ISU is one of the best schools in Illinois for just about any major you choose. I have many friends in multiple majors and they love all of the departments on campus. I am a dance education major myself and the dance program is absolutely fantastic and so welcoming. The general education courses provided are very interesting and some are even like a high school setting with small class sizes while others are the college lecture halls.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful. It is very close-knit and nothing is too far. A 10 minute walk at most because everything is very close together. The atmosphere is very welcoming and I feel safe everywhere I go.
Bang for the buck ISU is one of the cheaper schools in Illinois and for the price it is definitely worth it; you are getting just as great of an education as you would at a super pricey school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am in my first semester and taking mostly general education courses. No matter what your major, you will learn a lot about various subject areas in these courses.
Am enjoying being here ISU's main slogan is that it has the opportunities of a large university but the atmosphere of a smaller college. There are a plethora of opportunities and so many things in which students can get involved. Everyone seems more friendly than big-name schools where students are forced to be more competitive than friendly.
Bang for the buck The quality of education is mostly great, and you recieve more personalized attention than at larger, more costly schools. I choose here over applying to places like Harvard or Yale for that reason.
Tips for prospective students If you are eligible for the honors program, apply! It offers a personalized educational experience with extra opportunities that other students may not have.
Great for these types of students ISU is especially known for it's education program, so check it out if you are an education major. However, there is more to ISU than just the teaching program- there is something here for nearly everyone.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes here are challenging, but depending on the classes you took in high school in preparation for college you may be more prepared than you thought. For example, I had taken many business courses in high school which made my business orientation class very easy.
Am enjoying being here Most people are very friendly here and the campus is beautiful. The quad has a variety of trees which make it pretty at all times of the year. Also, the public transportation is free for students and makes it easy for you to work off campus or go anywhere you need to go.
Bang for the buck The tuition here is not bad compared to the value of the education that you are getting. Plus, Illinois State has recently made renovations to their dormitories and has a very nice student fitness center which just opened this year.
Tips for prospective students Study hard and get involved! There are so many ways you can get involved on campus, there is literally something for everyone.
Great for these types of students Illinois State University is great for business and education majors.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot For teaching I would not have chosen any other school. I am learning so much to become and elementary teacher and I am going to be so prepared. I have heard from other people that Illinois State prepares students for what is to come better than any other school.
Am enjoying being here Getting involved on campus was really important for me. I decided to go Greek and it has opened up my opportunities for community service and many other activities. I am also involved in a love of extra curricular activities for my major. They have a huge fair at the beginning of the year that you can sign up for.
Bang for the buck For being a public school, the tuition isn't too bad. I am most definitely getting what I paid for.
Tips for prospective students Just make sure you get involved in many different activities no matter what they are. There is so much to do and so many fun and interesting people to meet.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot I learned a lot coming into ISU. With the help of the general education courses I was able to learn about several different topics which led me to decide on my major. The professors are great and very helpful throughout the whole semester. I never had a complaint about them!
Did enjoy being here It was a great, beautiful campus. All the academic buildings are close together in the beautiful quad which is between the 4 different campuses. Everyone knows each other and are so friendly. It's so great to be able to have a small campus though it is considered a BIG campus! They also have PLENTY of clubs, organizations, events on the weekends and the new fitness center with rock climbing wall, Zumba, pool, etc.
Bang for the buck I did not have to pay one penny my first year! The tuition is cheap and worth the money! Just remember to fill out your FAFSA early because the money does run out if you submit it too late.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to visit, what works for some students may not work for you. Also, don't underestimate your teachers or classes. You don't want to get a bad grade in your Gen. Ed. classes because you thought Geology was the easiest class in the world.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students who like the small campus, big community environment. It's great for Education, Nursing, Athletic Training, Actuarial Science and Business Majors. It's also very affordable!
