    Am learning a lot

    The quality of the education you get here is really reliant on which specific classes you take. I've had some really challenging, forum-based classes where I felt like I learned a lot, including a lot more beyond just the curriculum. I believe some of these classes really helped me become more perceptive and aware in general, but then, on the other end of the spectrum, I've had classes that are just power points that you copy down every day. They are excruciatingly dull, and the material never really fully sinks in.

    Being in Hutton Honors college (the honors program here) has been great and has offered me a lot of benefits in my education. Honors classes (people usually take 1-2 a semester) are smaller and taught by a professor (as opposed to a associate instructor), so they are much more personal and a great atmosphere for learning. If you are able to join the honors college I highly suggest you take advantage of that! (but don't worry, it's not necessary to get a good education here!)

    All in all, I believe that a degree from IU is a very respectable one to have. IU has many of the best programs in the country, especially Kelley School of Business, Jacob School of Music, and School of Journalism (my major). I'm very confident that when I leave here I will be prepared for a career.

    I absolutely LOVE it here. I cannot rave about it enough. IUB has literally everything you could ever ask for in a college.

    1. The campus is stunning. If you are contemplating coming here, go and visit. You will quickly make your decision.
    2. It has the perfect small town feel. You aren't in some urban city where you have to worry about getting mugged on your walk home, but at the same time, you aren't in the boonies with nothing around you. There are loads of shops, restaurants, and a mall all around campus, and an adorable, charming downtown area, and you'll always feel safe.
    3. The campus is so alive. There are so many active groups and events. Something fun is always going on. Greek life is very big here.
    4. There are great traditions. If you don't know what Little 500 is, you need to find out first-hand.
    5. Big 10 sporting events... hey, even if our teams aren't that good, they're still really fun to attend!

    I've made some of my absolute best friends here and have had so much fun. I honestly think it is the best college experience someone could ask for.
    Bang for the buck

    I'm an out-of-stater, so tuition can get a little pricey, but even so, I could not even fathom leaving IU. I just can't picture myself anywhere else.
    Tips for prospective students

    1. Like I said before, go and visit. Once you see the campus, it is hard to pass this school up.
    2. If you are more of a partier, live in the Northwest neighborhood. If you'd like a more quiet dorm, go for Central or Southeast. But either way, get your housing application in asap so you will actually have a say in where you live.
    3. It's cliche, but get involved. There are so many great organizations on campus, and you should really take advantage of that.
    Great for these types of students

    It's great for really all kinds of students, except ones who need a lot of one-on-one interaction with the teacher. You just aren't going to get that in many of the lecture hall classes. But other than that, there is truly something here for all types of people.

    The professors at Indiana University are accommodating to their students. If for any reason your schedule conflicts with office hours or review sessions most professors are willing to set up other meeting times for your benefit. There are many tutoring centers located in different parts of the campus, so picking one near your dorm is easy and convenient.
    If you are thinking of majoring in business the Kelley School of Business (KSB) is ranked one of the top in the nation; and their School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) is tied at number two with Harvard. The facilities are one of the top in the nation and anyone should take advantage of all the Indiana University has to offer.

    No matter which dorm you are a resident of, you floor is a great place to meet new friends. The residence assistants really help you socialize and get along with you floor mates. Of course branching out and meeting people in the cafeterias, libraries, and class are stellar places to meet study buddies, future roommates, and life long friends as well.

    As I mentioned before, Indiana University has a lot of offer academically and socially. One will not only graduate with a great degree, no matter what they major in, but they will be set up with contacts and networking skills that will benefit them throughout their life.

    If you know exactly what you want to major in, apply for that school particular school instead of just general admission. A lot of these schools within the university are more competitive to get into when you start college.

    Indiana University is really great for all kinds of people! When I walk down the street I see scientists, mathematicians, and poets. Even if you do not have one particular calling, you will find tons of people on campus with various combinations of talents and interests.

    The classes are so diverse, so adaptable to your interests, it's pretty much impossible to not learn so much. When I first came here, I had NO idea what I wanted to do. I took a few classes that seemed interesting to me, and after the first semester, I decided on a Sociology major. Every time I come home, I always have Did you know...? facts to give my family. I know they are very impressed and satisfied with my choice of college.

    The campus is absolutely beautiful. You cannot ask for a prettier campus. What shocked me the most is it's in Indiana! I've lived in Indiana my whole life, so it's shocking for me to see such a beautiful campus here. There's so many centers to go to for help, the library is amazing, there's food courts everywhere. You will never have a moment where there's nothing to do.

    Let's see...if you live in the dorm, you get pretty much everything. Included in the tuition is room and board, transportation with the buses which run all day, you get to use the printers anywhere on campus, use computers and technology, rent books from the library, use the academic services (which are GREAT, by the way). There are sooo much more, but those are a few of the basics. For in-state students and out-of-state students, no matter what, it's an amazing deal.

    Do NOT slack off your senior year. No matter what college you plan to attend, they will look at your GPA and your test scores. Also, apply early. For IU, the longer you wait, the more competitive it gets. IU is an amazing school, and a college everyone should atleast consider.

    IU is great for any students who are interested in liberal arts. Also great for business majors, considering we have an amazing business school. The nursing program here, however, is extremely competitive. I think IU can find it's way into the hearts of anyone whose willing to work hard and succeed.

    Am learning a lot

    Although I have only been here at IU for a few short months, it feels as if I have learned so much. I am in the Jacobs School of Music, more specifically, which is known to be one of the top music schools in the country. The faculty are all amazing so far, although I can't say I've been here long enough to have experienced the wide range of professors here in such a large school. The music school has an incredible program with about 1,600 music majors and many world-class musicians on the faculty. Academically, there is a very supportive environment here that, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with.

    I moved here from San Francisco, so living in a very small (to me, at least) typical college town is a bit of a culture shock. It is a beautiful campus and a wonderful city. There are lots of cute, small shops downtown and a mall on the outskirts if you prefer the bigger chain stores. There is a certain spirit to this town that is quite infectious. Sports and Greek life are both very big here, and it's a bit of a party school, but there's nothing wrong with that. There are not many other schools where you can watch Big Ten sports in the day and go to see professional-level opera in the evening. This wide range of activities is one of the many things that makes this school feel special to me personally. I have met many great people here and made some great friends. I cannot think of a better way to start my college experience.

    I am from out of state, so the tuition is a bit pricey, especially in times like these, but so far it has been very worth it. If you are going for the music school, it is especially worth it simply because of the opportunities you can get here working with the faculty and other students. It may seem expensive when you're applying, but they have a wide range of scholarships that are often times automatic, so if you have good grades or other things that qualify you for scholarships you may find that it's not really as expensive as it seems at first.

    Starting college is a major event in everybody's lives and it can feel intimidating at first. Just remember that wherever you go to school, everyone around you is probably feeling the same way that you are. Don't be afraid to make friends and get involved in the school right from the start. Even if you feel like you don't fit in, schools like IU have something for everyone as long as you choose to seek it out.

    I have only completed one year here, but I feel like I've already learned so much. You get to choose from a wider variety of classes, and most will fill your degree requirements in some way or another. There are many different electives that you can choose from. I never though I would have so much fun taking a piano class!

    I have never had this much fun in my life. There is always something going on in Bloomington. Even from the moment I arrived in my dorm, welcome week was beginning and I was busy from the get-go. The girls that were on my floor ended up becoming the best friends I could ever have. At least one of them seemed to be in each of my classes so I always had someone to walk with and study with.

    IU is worth every penny spent. You get the complete college experience along with an outstanding education. Their schools all have amazing placement rates so you know they can help you find a job once you graduate.

    If you decide that you want to go here, make sure you sign up for an early registration date. This way you have better options for your classes and class times.

    Bloomington is a great town. The campus is gorgeous all year round and there is always something to do. The are plenty of restaurants and shops downtown. There is something for everyone! The school has so many clubs and activities that everyone is guaranteed to find something the love.

    I pay in-state tuition, so it is definitely worth the money. IU has many great programs to choose from. There are many programs available to students that are included in tuition. Some examples are the bus system, career development center, and the gym facilities.

    Spend your freshmen year taking basic classes and exploring you choices. Most students change their major at least once, so chances are you will too!
    Meet new people because these people will become lifelong friends and the people you spend all your time with for the next four years!

    There is such a variety of classes offered in every area of study. Because of this you get to choose classes that interest you and fill requirements at the same time. The professors are excellent and you can't help but get interested in the subject.

    There is something for everyone! Yes, it is a huge school but at the same time it is incredibly personable. By going to such a big school as IUB you are guaranteed to fit in somewhere and there is always a wide array of events going on and things to do.

    With tuition you not only get a great and fun education but there are also all sorts of perks. Simply by being a student at IUB you get free movie and music rentals, access to world renowned libraries and collections, free entry to the fine arts museum on campus, dance and music room access, activities and access to the student union billiards room, free movies at the student union theatre, and so much more.
    Tips for prospective students

    Don't be afraid of IUB's size. After visiting campus, which is a must, realize that most of your classes will be in the same general area and that you will see familiar faces. Everything shrinks down to a very homey size. Also make sure you get out of your dormroom and meet people. Being friendly can open a multitude of doors and makes the transition a million times easier.

    IUB is so diverse that there is a place for everyone. It is especially rich in the arts so if music, dance, or art interests you then IUB would be an excellent fit. The business, journalism, medical, and law schools are also world recognized so whatever your interest is you can be very happy there.

    The education I have received thus far from Indiana University is amazing! The professors make classes fun to attend and very educational. I never imagined that I would be in a room of 400 students and still be able to interact with not just students, but professors and IA's. I have never felt that I could not ask a question, and the professors are always up to answering anything you throw at them. I have learned so much information in the past 4 months and could not imagine learning anywhere else.

    I never truly enjoyed going to class in high school, but here I wake up every morning excited to go to class even when it is snowing. The professors make it fun to be in class and learn. Living on campus is an experience that no one will ever be able to take from me. I have met so many people and grew as an individual by living on campus. The campus is a little larger than I thought I would like, but walking to class is actually not that bad and with its size it just holds more people to meet. Also even with its size it has a way of feeling like a small town. Everyone is very helpful and kind to the underclassmen. I feel safe, secure, and at home at IU. I honestly LOVE IUB!

    Indiana University does cost a little more than some schools in the state, but it is totally worth it! IUB has great programs that are all included in tuition that other schools never offer. IUB also offers great scholarship opportunities as long as you look for them.
    Tips for prospective students

    Come visit and see just how homely it feels here. Also apply early, even if you are just slightly interested. I really was not completely sold on IUB until I came on a visit and hadn't applied yet so I missed out on a lot of great scholarship options. Also don't let people tell you living on campus is not worth it, it totally is!
    Once you are here, go to every Welcome Week event there is, you make friends that you keep for the year and learn a lot about campus. Also if you are athletic at all, join a team. It is fun to be able to release stress through sports and meet people that are interested in at least one similar thing.

    Indiana University has gone out of their way to make sure I get into classes I won't be bored in. They let me transfer in over 30 credits from my high school experience and placement tests, which means I didn't have to sit through any classes that I'd essentially taken before. Kudos!

    I thought high school was fun, but I'm having such a good time at Indiana University. I definitely consider this my new home! I was worried about dealing with a large school, but this school just fits with me. I am headed towards a few great majors, and it is EASY to get involved on campus.

    I won't deny that this school is expensive - especially if you're out of state. I can certainly say that I get what I'm paying for. So many opportunities for going abroad have just fallen into my lap, and the advisors of every department I go to are willing to sit down a work with me for as long as it takes. What other school in this price bracket makes it possible to pursue four majors in four years while taking a year and a half studying abroad?
    Tips for prospective students

    IU looks like a big school, and I know that when I first started it FELT like a big school. The campus is a decent size and the paths aren't even straight, so it seems easy to get lost. It's really not. There are so many ways to reorient yourself on the campus itself. As far as the population goes ... Well, I didn't want to go to a big school. I sincerely wanted to go to a small little thing with less than 3000 students. IU still seems to fit me perfectly, and I see people I know very well all over the place!

    I think IU is an ideal school for anyone interested in a wide variety of topics. From languages to business to music to the hard sciences, IU offers a great education at a pretty decent price and on a flexible schedule.

    Indiana University is an awesome place to live and go to school. the professor's are really here to help us out. With all the resources available on campus, there is no way you shouldn't pass a class.
    Tips for prospective students

    Work and save money during the summer before coming down to Bloomington: being broke the first year on campus is stressful.
    Order your books early: its better to have your books before classes start, Waiting to order text books will cause you to wait longer to get them than it would have if you would have ordered them earlier.
    Manage your time: it's called college for a reason. we're here to learn. Have fun, but get your school work finished first.
    Academic Rigor

    It's challenging work. It's college. You get what you put into your studies. fell free to slack off and not take your work seriously, you wont be here long.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life has it's ups and downs but overall I can't really complain. The ups: they're close to classes, and most have a food court or c-store located within them or another close dorm. The downs are really good for when it comes to quiet hours and some of the other rules. Quiet hours differ from dorm to dorm and can even differ from wing to wing within the same dorm, but the rules are to keep everyone safe and also provide an environment where we can study and sleep without being disturbed. Don't forget, we're in college for a reason.
    Food and Dining

    Food and dining is great here, but gets old really fast. The good thing is that there is a variety of different places to eat on campus and a lot of places deliver at different hours of the night. When eating on campus, we do get a 60% discount on food and other items purchased in the c-stores and food courts
    What to do for fun

    Fun is whatever you want to do. Be outside, hang out with friends, or be alone by yourself, you have the freedom to do pretty much whatever you want. Just be safe and be able to live with the decisions you make and the consequences that may come out of certain situations.

    Discounts at food courts and c-stores. There are so many academic help sessions and programs that we are able to use just because we are students at IU. We are paying for an education might as well use the resources provided.

    Little 500 week is amazing! People come in from all over the nation to take part in the activities around campus. It's the last full week before dead week and finals week. Professors usually do not assign a lot of work during this week but if you happen to fall behind in your classes, you will not be able to enjoy it as much as you would like.

    IU is great for any student. You meet a lot of different people with different backgrounds and different interests. You are sure to find someone with similar interests as yourself but it is even more exciting to meet people with different opinions than yourself.

    Campus security is actually really nice. Because the campus is so big, security is around pretty often. They are here to help protect us and do not just look to get us in trouble. In fact, a lot of the security around campus are actually students.

    this is a large school with a smaller school feel, due to the attentive faculty and the chances to get to know them one-on-one. there are so many opportunities to excel academically and socially, in addition to finding your niche in extra-curricular and volunteer activities. and, best of all, it is a melting pot of people and personalities from all over the united states and the world.
    Tips for prospective students

    first and foremost: visit bloomington, take a tour of the campus, check out the vast array of majors offered, and talk to current students about their experiences at iu. be open minded; you may be a science major but could find yourself directing a musical production or participating in intramural sports. take advantage of all that iu has to offer, from football and basketball games, to international food venues in town or nature walks in scenic bloomington.
    Academic Rigor

    yes, it's a state school, but that doesn't mean you can skate. iu is home to some of the most academically acclaimed programs in the nation. the kelley school of business is renowned nationwide, and attracts top students from all over the globe with its rigorous business curriculum and fortune 500 contacts. in fact, kelley business grads enjoyed about 96% job placement within the first three months after graduation in 2011. the very selective jacobs school of music holds the distinction of one of the best fine arts programs in the u.s. in fact, i am told it recently surpassed the juilliard school of music in a reported ranking. another example of academic excellence is the college of informatics, a relative newcomer to the iu campus. the college was established only 12 years ago, as the first of its kind in the u.s., and now shares the field with just 19 other universities. informatics is the study of relating computer applications to real world situations. sure, you have to learn a bit of programming, but it is the application that is the key. cognates include bio informatics, environmental informatics, medical informatics, computer security, artificial intelligence, and more. it's a wide open field, with more openings than people to fill them (unheard of in our current economy!), and iu is one of a select few schools to offer this major. lookout facebook and google--here come the iu students!
    Dorm Life

    life in the dorms is definitely a highlight of the iu experience. it's a great opportunity to meet people from all backgrounds and have someone to talk to at the end of a long day. some of the dorms are home to learning living centers, including those for honors students, kelley business majors, computer science majors, and even one for those wishing to live healthy lifestyle. essentially, your floor is comprised of others with similar interests to yours. this is especially helpful when you need a study buddy.
    Food and Dining

    a great deal of options and good tasting for institutional food. with the iu meal plans you can eat at any dorm on campus using virtual dollars. choices range from cafeteria style and all-you-can eat buffets, to snack bars, sandwich shops and an ice cream emporium. there's even a convenience store in one of the dorms, offering groceries, hot food, cleaning supplies, and other necessities.
    What to do for fun

    take advantage of all the campus has to offer, from movies to parties, to bowling at the memorial union, to the yearly all-night iu dance marathon that benefits riley children's hospital in indianapolis. and don't forget the great restaurants right on campus and in town. one street on campus is devoted specifically to ethnic fare, including turkish, afghani and tibetan food. the tibetan restaurant is owned by the brother of the actual dali lama!
    Bang for the buck

    iu was rated one of the top schools in the nation for its bang for the buck and it's not hard to see why. it's got small town southern indiana charm but is as cosmopolitan as an ivy league school. education and job placement is top notch and the cost, even for out-of-state students doesn't even come close to what private institutions are charging. in fact, more than 40% of the student population hails from states other than indiana, including a large contingency from the east coast!
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    the showalter fountain, located in front of the iu auditorium is home to a statue of venus surrounded by fish. after iu's ncaa men's basketball championship in 1987, the very heavy fish were somehow stolen by revelers. all were returned except one, which has since been re-created. legend has it that the fish will reappear when bobby knight is asked to return as iu's basketball coach. we might be waiting a long time for that!!

    iu has something for everyone, from the very studious to the very social. to the athletic or the artistic. that's what makes this campus fun: it's a mixture of personalities, interests, strengths, causes, and diverse backgrounds.

    so many more than i could possibly name. if there is an interest, there is probably a club at iu that addresses that interest. iu also has one of the largest greek systems in the country and is home to variety of fraternities and sororities.
    Greek Life

    greek life on campus is extremely active and makes its presence known through philanthropic endeavors and social gatherings. there are many houses to choose from, each with its own personality, so you can find your perfect fit.
    Campus Safety

    safety at iu is job one. there are buses that run all over campus, as well as a free transportation service available to those out studying late at night. all dorms are only accessible by key card, and residents must pass through three different locked doors to enter their room.

    My classes are really interesting. The professors are passionate about their subjects, and are willing to help you, provided that you go to office hours and speak with them individually. Outside of classes, you learn that you should branch out and talk to other people. Making new friends is easy if you try.

    The atmosphere at IU is very friendly and energized. The advantage of being a big school is that there are a diverse array of clubs and organizations to take part in. Whatever you're interested in, you're likely to find at IU.

    There are many scholarships available. Most are merit-based, and lead to a greatly reduced bill. Many people actually get a refund each semester, which they can use for books, supplies, and the like.

    This school is all about connecting. The size of the student body, coupled with the driven faculty, creates a network of social and business relationships. You really need to be assertive about what you want and go for it.

    This really, really varies by school. I'm an Arts Management Major in SPEA with a concentration on music, which is a cool degree because I get to take classes in SPEA, Kelley, and Jacobs simultaneously, so I'm learning a TON and getting a really broad education!

    Kelley School of Business is great and definitely pushes you, but those who are Kelley majors come out all looking the same (I'm a SPEA kid so I'm slightly biased, but hear me out). They get the same resume template, and take all of the same classes until halfway through their junior year, so when they apply to jobs in Indy and Chicago, the recruiters have all seen that type of person before. That said, it is the type of person with a stellar education, but who rarely knows how to think critically.

    Jacobs is a fantastic school as well, though it is not for the faint of heart. The kids who are accepted as music majors are GOOD and it is very competitive! Different departments are more competitive than others, but overall, the school boasts an immense amount of talent.

    SPEA is known for not being as competitive, but that is because it houses majors such as Environmental Science, Arts Management, Public Policy, Legal Studies, etc. that don't really have another home. It is a top-rated grad school (literally - its #2 above Harvard & Princeton currently), and the professors who teach grad school are the same who teach undergrad classes as well, so you're definitely getting a great education.

    I can't speak so much for the other schools, but I know that many beginning science classes are large and challenging, but they make way for smaller, more intimate class sections. The Journalism school is well known also. Being in the Hutton Honors college has definitely added to my education, by giving me smaller class sizes and a generally more well-rounded view, i'd definitely recommend doing it.

    I could talk for HOURS about how much I love Bloomington. In one day, you can be at a football game in the afternoon, and at the opera right down the street at the MAC in the evening. The free and paid musical events that are put on by the Jacobs school are just incredible, as is the sense of school spirit that can be found at sports games as well as around campus. Though no one really knows what it is, we are all proud Hoosiers. Walking to class, half of the people on your way are wearing something with IU on it.

    In addition to the great campus life (and I forgot to mention - super pretty campus!) Bloomington is a great city. Lots of music venues, lots of shops (both mainstream at the mall and boutiques on Kirkwood), lots of bars, and many restaurants, it is overall an awesome place to be! 4th street has every type of ethnic cuisine you could ever want, which is really special. Bloomington overall is safe, and has a great reputation for having a great social aspect to it.
    Bang for the buck

    I'm an out-of-stater, so it is a tad expensive (but nothing compared to NYU, which was my second choice!). They are great with financial aid - I got a fairly hefty merit scholarship renewable for 4 years when I applied. My main point of advice on this topic is apply EARLY! Its rolling admissions, but you still don't have to commit until May. I applied in November just to get one application out of the way early, and I think in doing that I was able to get my scholarship because they still had the money to give out, so take full advantage of that!

    Indiana is getting increasingly competitive due to the top notch quality of the business school, among other things, so don't write it off as some crappy state school! Bloomington is the best place to be, it honestly does have something for everyone.

    I came to the school literally knowing no one, a huge leap of faith! I luckily had an awesome floor freshman year, and got involved in club volleyball and union board amongst other clubs, so I was able to make friends pretty quickly. Being at such a big school, it will definitely overwhelm you if you let it. Leave your door open on the floor, go to those stupid free pizza! meetings and be open minded - you never know what you'll end up being passionate about and where you'll be able to make friends! Its nice to be able to recognize people on campus :)

    Last piece of advice: Don't be afraid to reach out and ask questions!! Students LOVE to rave about their experience at the school, Alumni love to tell you their stories - you won't find an IU grad who doesn't look upon their time there fondly. Oh, and watch Hoosiers & Breaking Away before you come - they're Hoosier classics :)

    Am learning a lot

    I have found that all of my teachers are always ready to help. They have office hours, which is free one-on-one tutoring! Having my teachers available has greatly enhanced my learning experience. With that being said, I have encountered classes that are boring, and it makes it harder for me to be excited for that class subject, in turn making it harder to learn. Overall, however, I have learned a lot, and not just about calculus, English, and biology. I’ve also learned how to make a presentation “STICKY”, how to dance the chorus to Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”, and how to be more social. The wonderful thing about Bloomington is that there is such a wide diversity of people and ideas that you will always learn about a new religion, the best places in town, life lessons—it’s all here! Another great thing about IU is that there is such a wide array of classes that you really do become a well-rounded person because you do not feel bound to your major. Electives are not just electives here; they are supplementary material to your core classes. For example, I am working towards a biology, pre-med major, and I am taking a business class presentations class. The skills I have learned in that class will help me tremendously when I have to present a research lab project, or even when I interview for new opportunities such as internships, scholarships, medical school.

    IU is awesome! Bloomington is a lively town that has a lot of activities to become involved with, both on and off-campus, such as IU Timmy Foundation, church, HOLA radio, Boys and Girls Club, the list goes on and on. There are restaurants galore, the variety of people here is amazing, most people are friendly, there are so many free events, such as soccer, volleyball, movies at the IMU, even choir concerts—it really does provide for a fun and exciting experience. (And let’s not forget about the famous IU parties). Bloomington is a very social place, but not in an overwhelming way. I love it! It's small enough where you don't feel lost, but big enough where you don't feel bored or stuck in a small town.

    IU is expensive, let’s be honest. That’s why if you are reading this and you are a high school senior, I recommend applying to as many scholarships as possible, starting now! However, IU does give you a lot of bang for the buck. I have found awesome advisers here that I cannot say enough good things about, the professors really do care about your education, the variety of classes is so huge that you will want to take them all, and the social scene is booming! Also, the meal points here work great because you get 60% discount on every meal you buy. And we have these great little convenience stores (c-stores) where you can use your meal points to buy medicine, cleaning supplies, or a late-night snack, and still get 60% off! You also get access to both gyms on the campus, the school and public buses; you get to check out all kinds of movies here (for free!). There is the world-famous Lilly Library, an art museum, even an Observatory! There is HPPLC (Health Professions Pre-Law Center) where there are advisers to guide you through the process of being a pre-law and pre-med student. You have the opportunity to take classes in the Kelley School of Business, Ernie Pyle School of Journalism, and Jacobs School of Music. You have it all, it seems like. But the only way you get the bang for the buck is if you take advantage of such resources.

    1. Know yourself, and be honest about who you are, what your values are, and what you are looking for in a college. Don’t choose a school for the name, the reputation, or for any other reason except for that it makes you happy.
    2. Visit the campus as many times as possible! You might think this is not necessary, but you need to know if this feels like home to you. Participate in activities while visiting, especially activities that are not part of the organized schedule.
    3. Make sure you pay attention to all the details when choosing a school—the costs, the courses offered, the degree programs, extra-curriculars, the town, distance from home, etc.
    4. Ask current students about their experience at IU, and ask them to be honest. A lot of times, tour guides like to emphasize the positive and downplay the negatives. After all, they are trying to “sell” the school to you!
    5. Try not to go home as much, especially during the first two months. This will really help make college be your home.
    6. Go to office hours! You will hear this again and again, and for good reason! This is your chance to let the professors know you care.
    7. Explore everything a college has to offer you, and take advantage of that!
    8. Apply to scholarships!

    IU is great for any student that wants a great education, loves being involved, can handle being one of many students, and likes to be challenged. I see ALL types of students when I walk to class. There are no stereotypes here because nobody fits into one. You can come to IU and be the person you have always wanted to be. I will say this, however: IU is a big school, and you can feel lost if you do not form connections with other students, mentors, academic advisers, and professors. You have to be assertive enough to take control of your education and life. If you are not assertive, that does not mean you will not be successful at IU. In fact, coming to IU may help you with that, but it is something to take into consideration.

    I am a transfer student here and i can honestly say that coming from my past school to IU is a totally different learning experience. Here the professors care about you understanding what you learn, and also the teaching assistants. In the beginning it may seem overwhelming but it all pays off. I can speak from one class that i am taking now, I would have never learned it at my other school. and I thank IU for this knowledge because it will definitely help me in the long run.

    This school does offer a lot of the amount of money, but with that it just all depends on where you are coming from. Now being in-state i don't pay as much as out of state students.     For prospective students I would say coming to this school, just make sure you can balance your time well.     Indiana University is known for being one of the top research institutes in the world. From IU's compelling classroom settings to the knowledgable professors, students here feel among the best of the best. As a Freshman, attending a university with 40,000 students is overwhelming at times, but when you are on campus and in class, the university itself seems smaller than most imagine.

    With an large university, attending class and work ethic are key to success. Indiana University offers an array of opportunities and resources for new learning everyday, but students have to find these opportunities on their own. I have found I have become an independent learner while at Indiana University and have become prepared for the workforce through my classes, helpful professors, and the many up-to-date resources Indiana University offers students.

    The campus and overall college life at Indiana University Bloomington is extraordinary. Although the campus is one of the largest in the state of Indiana, the university offers so many extra curricular activites, volunteer opportunities, and venues for students to relax.

    Part of being on a large campus is all of the new experiences you cross each day and the different people you meet. At my time at Indiana University, I have met incredible people who have now become my best friends. The dorms are a great living experience for Freshman and an outlet to meet many new faces during Welcome Week, in what seems like unfamiliar territory. Part of what makes Indiana University the succuess that it is, are the sports, theatre, Greek system, clubs and organizations that IU has to offer. Large classes and studying can get stressful and it is good to have an outlet where you can go to relieve some stress.     Indiana University has a truly enormous and varied list of classes that any student can choose from. A student can fulfill his or her major requirements while at the same time taking classes like the Music of the Beatles and Belly Dancing for fun. The professors and associate instructors have been excellent in almost every class I've taken, and extremely willing to help and guide outside of classes. One of my professors is the worldwide expert on an esoteric classical Greek subject. I feel like I'm learning a great deal about a large variety of topics.

    The city of Bloomington is one of the nicest cities I have ever been to, and it has a great deal of character. Full of hippie culture and amazing authentic ethnic food from all corners of the earth, Bloomington is pedestrian and biker friendly, and brimming with music, art, literature, and culture. There is always something to do in Bloomington, and usually it can be done with a small amount of money.

    Indiana University is very much worth the price you pay for it, if not even more! For starters, the university boasts many prestigious schools, such as the Kelley School of Business and the Jacobs School of Music, just to name a few. IUB offers an incredible amount of variety, so all different types of students can enjoy themselves there. And there's so much BEYOND the classes. Clubs and sports and places like the IU Art Museum and the Lilley Library, full of arcane little artifacts and beautiful artwork. Finally, the campus itself is a beautiful place, especially in fall and spring. Laying out on a blanket in the sun makes reading your textbooks a lot easier.

    Don't worry if you're overwhelmed at the beginning. It's a big school with an equally big campus, a lot of buildings, and a lot of people. Give yourself time to get used to it. Also, when you start out, even if you're 100% sure of your major, take at least one cool, interesting class outside of your major just to give yourself a break from thinking about the same stuff all the time. Stay organized by using a planner - as trite as that sounds it will save your grade many times. Finally, get involved with as much stuff as you can, but don't force yourself to keep going to things if you're not enjoying them. The right thing will come along eventually.

    many students at first glance may think that indiana university is too large for them. i find this to be one of the best things about iu since it allows for the large variety of school and social activities which cater to just about any type of person. as long as you get involved, you can't go wrong and you definitely won't be disappointed!

    the academics at indiana university are challenging, however nothing is ever out of your reach and there is always more than one person to help you at any time of the day. professors are very helpful and there is always an assistant instructor or teacher's assistant that you can turn to for help. the resources available to students at iu are incredible and are often times another huge part of the aid students receive for their school work.

    the dorm life at indiana university stands out to me because i met so many life long friends during my freshman year. all of the resident assistants are great and do an amazing job at helping to keep the student's involved and happy. the activities hosted by the dorms do a very good job of helping students make friends quickly. the dorms are also very well kept and clean.

    for anyone looking to come to iu, i would say definitely come with an open mindset. bloomington can open your eyes to so many things you never knew were out there. most importantly, get involved! bloomington is a large campus so you have to be sure to get involved with an organization and feel the atmosphere of a small community. joining some type of community will allow you to feel more at home. come to iu and be ready for unforgettable ride.

    indiana university has the most beautiful campus in all of indiana and is surprisingly very easy to get around despite how large it is. the students and professors are great and really easy to get along with, and are always willing to help out in any situation. there is always something to do on campus or downtown, it is impossible to be bored!

    if you plan to live on campus, be sure to choose a neighborhood that is closest to where you're classes will be located. if you plan on majoring in music the south neighborhood is your best bet, the central and north neighborhoods are ideal for the business school and for all of the sporting events. well's library is the best place to get your homework done or study if you need a quiet place to get things done. be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes if you do not bring a car or bike. most of all explore and enjoy your time here, there are numerous things to do here and there is no reason for you to be bored!

    students tend to work very hard throughout the week with weekends focusing on a more relaxed and fun tone.
    Dorm Life

    some dorms have food courts or places to pick up a late night snack or coffee which can be great for those days when you are swamped with work or when studying for exams. while the dorm rooms are not huge, they provide plenty of space for you and your roommate(s) and even some room for a small company of friends for weekends. each floor also has it's own lounge which is great for getting to know your fellow floor mates, watch movies, or study.
    Food and Dining

    there are various food courts around campus each with their own variety of foods to choose from. there are also plenty of restaurants, pizza places and coffee shops within walking distance of campus.
    What to do for fun

    the big thing around campus is to attend the various sporting events, especially the football and basketball games. if sports don't appeal to you, there are plenty of plays, concerts and musicals performed each week or go watch a free movie at the iu memorial union theater on the weekend. iu also has an excellent workout facility with an indoor pool, track, weight room, basketball courts, and tons of other great features.

    the union is great to relax, or watch a free movie on weekends. the fountain in front of the iu auditorium or the arboretum are great places to relax and take in the fresh air.

    You will know if you like IU just by making a visit. I thought IU wouldn't be the school for me until I visited. It made all the difference and I loved it to death. I never thought I would find myself at IU, but it has been the best decision of my life so far. You never know if you don't try it!

I've never met so many persistent and educated young people determined to succeed and school, that are also extremely good at having fun. If you are looking for a real college town; this is it. If you like meeting new people everywhere you go and also running into familiar faces; this is that place too.

    I absolutely love all of my professors!!! I heard a lot of horror stories about college professors while I was still in high school. The main complaint was: they don't care about their students.

    In my personal experience, this is FAR from the truth. It's true that you are more responsible for yourself. In some classes at IU, there is such a large amount of students that it is difficult for teachers to dedicate a lot of their time to one student. Also, some professors are busy writing books and/or teaching multiple subjects. Because of the sheer quantity of students, it can be difficult for them to make you feel special. However, that is to be expected when you are going into a large school like IUB. If any of the above things mentioned bother you, then perhaps you should apply at a smaller school.

    If these things don't bother you though, then you will absolutely love IU! And you will learn so so much. The teachers, in my experience, are very passionate about what they teach- much more so than high school and middle school teachers. The students around you tend to be more of an aid than a distraction. You'll meet some nice people while you're here and it's super easy to form study groups.

    We have this thing called onestart where you can send out a message to all of your fellow students in the class requesting notes or offering to form a study group. It is extremely helpful. The professors are also very easy to access and reach through email.

    If I had to complain about one thing- it would be math. Math classes- especially classes like Finite and Calculus- tend to be extremely large. And worse, the teachers are sometimes foreigners. DX Some of them have accents that are so thick that you can't understand them... That being said though, most of them are pretty easy to comprehend. Just know that you'll have to spend a lot of your own time studying if you aren't naturally good at mathematics. Mathematics are required if you want to graduate.

    I LOVE IU! I really really do! It's wonderful for the following reasons

    -You can find a job on campus pretty easily. There are so many cool places (clothing shops, coffee shops, food shops, gyms, etc...) and you are able to apply to all of them. You can specifically request an application if you are in need of tuition money. It's wonderful!

    -The food won't burn a hole through your stomach. I went to four different high schools. I know what bad food tastes like. I can assure you, the food is pretty wonderful in the majority of the college dorms!

    -There are tons of places to live both on and off campus. If you don't want to live on campus, you can request a housing exemption [they require freshmen to live on campus if they don't request a housing exemption]. I haven't heard too many complaints about the dorms. The worst thing I've heard is that the older buildings don't have air conditioning. So word to the wise- bring a fan or air conditioner.

    -It's so diverse that I think anyone and everyone can feel comfortable here! There are mixed people, White people, Black people, Latino people, Asian people, some Amerindians, people from the Middle East! It's great! There are also a variety of churches and religious groups you can become a part of. Catholic? Muslim? LDS? Anything else? There is a place for you here! And the races here tend to get a long. It isn't one of those places where people of different races and religions avoid each other. We blend pretty well! There are plenty of foreign students here too!

    IU is expensive! Really expensive!

    BUT, it's worth the money. It really, truly is.

    -The dorms are decent [especially when you compare them to dorms at other Universities].
    -The food is good.
    -You get to ride both the campus and city buses for free.
    -You will learn a ton and be exposed to different cultures!

    DON'T BRING A CAR!

    Parking is absolutely horrendous. That is probably my only complaint. And some of the drivers [and the people walking....] are horrible! I'm just now starting my second semester, and I've already been nearly run over twice. Most of the drivers aren't that bad, but when you put 30,000+ people aged 18-24 on one campus, you're bound to have a few close calls and accidents.

    In addition to that, paying for gas sucks.

    Why bring a car when the bus drivers will take you around the entire city for free?
    Great for these types of students

    - People who enjoy teachers who enjoy what they teach
    - People who have an interest in or want to be exposed to different cultures
    - People who enjoy the arts [there are plays being put on here all the time! And they are wonderful!]
    - People who don't want to pay for gas
    - People who want to go to one of the best schools in the world [Did you know IUB may become an Ivy League?]

    I can't imagine wanting to be anywhere else! I think that everyone and anyone can find a place here at IU!

    There is never a shortage of interesting classes to take at IU! Because it is such a big school, I really believe they strive to have something interesting for everyone. The professors I've had are flexible and always willing to meet with you to discuss any questions you may have. They even have a program where you can make your own major!

    I cannot imagine loving another school more than I love it here. The camaraderie among the students, faculty, and townspeople is unparalleled. IU has hundreds and hundreds of clubs for students to get involved in, and there are plenty of volunteer opportunities both on and off campus.

    Out-of-state tuition is fairly expensive, but worth every penny! I'm getting a phenomenal education, and I'm loving every second of it.     Come visit us! Check out Kirkwood Avenue, which is filled with cute shops and great restaurants. Take a tour of the beautiful campus and get a feel for what being a student here feels like. I made my decision to go here the second I stepped into Bloomington.

In addition, do not worry about the amount of students in your class because all the teachers have office hours so you can get any questions you have cleared up!

    I am currently studying Journalism at Indiana University. The Journalism program here at I,U., along with most of the other programs give you an unlimited amount of opportunity in and outside of your time at college. A degree from Indiana University is one of the most respected degrees out there. The classes are a lot more personable than I would have expected out of a Big 10 school. Professors here go above and beyond to make sure you are prepared for your career of choice once you graduate.

    Indiana University is what college should be! With all of the tradition, who would not be excited to go here? The campus is beautiful and historic. I feel very proud to call it my school. There are plenty of things to do on and off campus to keep you busy on the weekends and when you have down time. There are sporting events, events in your dorms or living communities, clubs and organizations you can join and there are plenty of really cool spots off campus where you can hang out with your friends or take family when they come to visit. I have made more friends in college than I would have expected. My whole entire floor of my dorm felt like one big family by the end of the year.

    Though Indiana University may seem like a pricier school to go to, I feel like you cannot really put a price on the amount of opportunity and experience you receive while at I.U. There are many options for students who need financial assistance when it comes to paying for college. You can also apply for a wide variety of scholarships, depending on your major. Do not let the price scare you away. You cannot find an experience like this anywhere else in Indiana.

    I love IU and I love Bloomington, because they both feel like two different worlds sometimes. It's as if IU was Neverland surrounded by the grown up world. On campus at IU you can always find some way to have fun, whether it's hanging out on Kirkwood, going to the mall, checking out a new movie at the AMC theatres, going to a show at the IU auditorium or any of the many other fun places around campus, there is no lack of fun.

    IU is a great bang for your buck. You get a great place to live with all the water you want to use, there are places on campus where you can eat all you can eat and places where you can eat a-la-carte, free wifi, free cable, free access to computers around campus, 700 free pages allotment at the beginning of each semester, free printer access around campus, free bus access around campus (IU buses), free bus access around Bloomington (bloomington transit buses), discount tickets to sports events, auditorium shows and musical arts shows, and so many more things. In the end when you add up everything IU has to offer, I'm amazed they don't charge more for tuition.

    Join a group or a club, they are a great way to meet new people.

    Get to know your professor. I personally go up to my professor after the first day of class and say, Hi, my name is ----- and I just wanted to come up, introduce myself and say how excited I am about this class and I look forward to what is to come. Doing this makes yourself stand out to that professor and they are more likely to remember you the next class and it makes it easier to ask them for help :)

    Although some courses I have taken have not been challenging, for the most part they have all been beneficial. There are some courses that have challenged me a lot to learn and completely understand the material, and others that I have found very interesting and have, therefore, learned a lot from those as well!

    As I become more and more involved on campus, I find my enjoyment of it increases. During freshman year, I did not do a whole lot, but now that I have become more involved in several of the many organizations on campus I find I enjoy it more and more. At first the many options and sheer number of people can be daunting and difficult to find a suitable place for yourself, but the more involved you get with the various opportunities you believe you would enjoy, the better it gets.

    I can not speak for everyone, but personally I have received a lot of financial aid and am not too stressed about paying for school. There are also many useful things on campus for which fees are paid. The bus system is one of these (both IU's buses and those of the city of Bloomington as well). This is useful because it allows for ease of traveling throughout the city without worrying about having a car. Other things that fees cover (or at least help with) are the recreational centers (free places to work out), some health center related appointments, counseling, and UITS. UITS is the technology support that they have on campus. The center in the Wells Library helped me fix my laptop when the operating system crashed by selling me a newer version of windows at a discounted rate because I was a student! It saved me quite a bit of money.

    Think about what you want to get out of college. I know everyone says to visit and research, but that's exactly what you should do. If you decide to come to Indiana University-Bloomington, I highly suggest going to IFS (Intensive Freshman Seminar). It's about a month long before freshman year starts, but it's wonderful and truly worth it. The courses are usually interesting, but perhaps more importantly you get to meet, and get to know, other students before you even really begin college. Two of the people I talk to most at school, I met during IFS.
    Also, once school actually begins just reach out to people, talk to the people in your class and join organizations, the more you reach out, the more you'll begin to feel like campus is your home!
    (Another thing, try to take advantage of all the free things to do! There is quite a lot!)

    There are several departments that are top-notch within the university, but generally speaking if you are looking for a school with a lot of different types of opportunities then you should consider IU.

    I have been very happy with most of my teachers. Even if I don't like my teachers I have a chance to review them at the end of the class and the university actually listens to all the reviews that students write. My counselors have been very helpful and have helped me find classes that I enjoy and fit into my major. If I have questions in classes teachers are available many times during the week for office hours and almost 24/7 through email.

    It is a beautiful campus that actually feels like a campus. I wanted a small campus feel, without actually having a small campus. The campus is actually very large, but I feel like the campus is small and intimate. There are many options for extra-curricular activities and many different activities planned by the dormitories.

    This college is very affordable with the automatic scholarship opportunities. There are also other scholarship opportunities and many grant options for the regular school year and study abroad programs.
    Tips for prospective students

    Take the SAT and ACT enough that you can be qualified for the automatic scholarships. It is also helpful to get to know some upperclassmen that can tell you about some of the secret places on campus, or the shortcuts to get places. If you don't know an upperclassmen you can miss out on many opportunities that are not advertised. Explore all of your options on campus. There are so many teachers and counselors who are willing to help you if you ask!

    This university is great for people who want a small campus feel, while still getting the opportunities of a larger university. The automatic scholarships are helpful for those who cannot afford college, but have good enough grades and SAT or ACT scores.

    If you are even considering a degree in business -- this is the school for you! The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University is consistently ranked in the top 10 business schools in the nation, and for good reason. The courses, although by no means easy, are extremely practical and geared toward building your career in a concrete way. In addition, Kelley offers courses that most other business schools do not, giving Kelley students a real advantage. The school has an outstanding placement rate after graduation. And don't be daunted if you don't think you want to do business as a career - I plan on taking what I've learned here and applying it in a non-profit or ministry setting. What you learn here can be used anywhere!

    Bloomington, without a doubt, is the greatest college town in Indiana and maybe the entire Midwest. As a creative artist type, I can't get enough of the concerts, art shows, and other unique festivals and galleries that seem to be happening constantly downtown. And if you don't consider yourself the creative type, no problem. The city is set in between some amazing state parks, and the school boasts one of the greatest intramural sports organizations in the nation. With literally thousands of clubs and student organizations, there is truly a place for everyone.

    You'll find that IU is very comparably priced to the other Big Ten schools. If you are coming from out-of-state, tuition will be a bit pricey, but I have many out-of-state friends who decided coming to IU was worth the extra, and they've never regretted it. The school offers a lot of scholarships and you can find a way to make it work.

    It's easy to be daunted by the massive number of students here, but don't be. Work actively to meet new people, try new things, and get involved in as much as you can handle realistically. Getting a job or running for student office are great ways to get networked quickly. And in the meantime - focus on your grades! Many students get sidetracked by friends and parties freshman year, while in reality it is the most important year to build a solid GPA.

    I would literally say that this school is great for every type of person. Whether you love art, business, technology, psychology, music, chemistry, law, or anything else you can think of, IU not only will have a major for you but a variety of student organizations to support you.

    Chemistry and language departments are absolutely fantastic. You definitely need to put your time if you want to succeed but if you do everything you need to do every class you take should be rewarding in some way.

    The work load is hard, but manageable. Some classes require much more work than others, but that professors are usually pretty up-front about what they expect from you. Classes are fairly interesting. It all depends on the classes you're taking and what you're good at.

    There are so many different types of people here, that it's hard not to find a group of friends. There's tons of stuff to do on and around campus. It's such a pretty campus that you won't mind not being near a big city.

    In high school, your parents are there to push you all the time. They tell you to do your homework, and pressure you to do your best. But at college, you're alone. You have to push yourself. And if you can't do that, you have to surround yourself with people who will. Find good friends, talk to your professors, and take advantage of counselors.

    It is good for students with a wide social group. IU is a big school, and you have to be comfortable being around a lot of people. IU is good for people with many interests.     Indiana University has some of the best professors I have ever met, If you approach them they will take the time out of their day to clarify any questions you may have. I was sick a lot the first semester of my freshman year and all of my professors were gracious and helped me step by step complete what I missed. The classes themselves are phenomenal. Though the information is presented at a fast rate, it is presented in such a way that's easy to understand. Overall the quality of the classes are wonderful and the teachers themselves are caring. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants a quality education.

    I have had a rough time being at such a large campus, it is very easy to be forgotten in a crowd if you don't get involved here. The Greek system is a great way to get involved, but it relies upon your ability to get into a house, which not all people do. Students who don't get involved right away often have a harder time feeling accepted on campus, but for many other students who got involved right away, it has been nothing but paradise.

    You really get what you pay for when you go to Indiana University. First off you have access to amazing staff and classes to take, there are classes in anything from chemistry, to stick fighting. There is something for everyone, but there are also so many resources on campus. There is a Writing Tutorial Service that will proof-read any paper you may have to write before you turn it in, there is a Student Recreational Center with an olympic sized swimming pool, there are computer labs located all across campus, there is also a health center which provides 2 free sessions for emotional and physical health, and all of these are included in your tuition! Make use of them! There is also an Auditorium on campus that brings touring broadway shows right to the university, though it isn't included in tuition it is an opportunity that very few other colleges have.

    GET INVOLVED!!! Indiana is a HUGE campus with over 30,000 undergraduate students. If you are coming from far away and don't know many people on campus, it is very easy to feel alone on campus. Go to the student involvement fair at the beginning of the year and learn what opportunities there are for you. There are over 500 student organizations on campus, one is bound to be right for you. If there isn't one, all you need is one other person and you can start your own! Use the resources you pay for! Go to the gym, or the health center, the writing service. These are things included in your tuition and not enough people use them to their advantage. Learn what help is offered and use it! Lastly, try new things! There are so many new opportunities on campus, try them. You might be surprised with what things you like to do you never tried before college. Overall just know what is going on on-campus and start early!

    Indiana University has a fantastic drama program. It is also renowned for its Pre-medical classes. Indiana is great for students searching for a big campus with a lot of opportunities. It is also a great campus for people interested in the greek system, there are 20 sororities and 29 frats on campus. It is also great for students looking for a beautiful campus surrounded by a quaint town that supports the university in all it does.

    The breadth of classes offered at IU makes it virtually impossible NOT to learn a lot in whatever subject you might by interested in. Not only are there classes, though, but free lectures, art galleries, concerts, colloquium, and conferences held every single day that students are welcome and encouraged to attend. I have had my horizons broadened and my academic knowledge expanded here.

    One of the benefits of IU's being just a big school is that there is a place for everyone. It is surprisingly easy to find your niche and to surround yourself with really amazing people. Bloomington is the perfect place to study, with just the right balance of interesting things going on but a small town feel as well. IU's campus is also one of the most beautiful I've ever seen, and the Art Museum, Lilly Library, etc. add interest and lots of cultural opportunities.

    As an out-of-state student I can't say that IU is dirt cheap, but it's much better than many options out there, and the quality of education and quality of life I'm experiencing here make the cost well worth it.

    Here at Indiana University I have learned how to balance my academics and my personal life. When you come to college you have ten times the freedom you had in high school, but you have to stay focused and I have learned how to do that.     The lectures and discussions of the University are extremely well organized. Professors organize a syllabus before each semester starts and they expect students to follow it because the include the course readings and homework. The teachers there range from easy to difficult, but even the difficult professors will work with students who are struggling since they allow the student's to come to office hours.

    I love it here at IU. There is no place I'd rather be. The campus is beautiful no matter which season, and it has become my new home. It is a great campus full of wonderful people and is a safe environment. I have found amazing friends and a place that fits me well.

    The school is very expensive for out-of-stater's like me. So if you're out of state definitely work to get gpa based scholarships or financial scholarships. If you're an in-stater, the school is much cheaper money wise. It is a great institution though and I feel that it is still worth it for me to pay the money and go there than somewhere else.

    The school looks for smart test takers. If your high school gpa is above a 3.0 you should be ok, but I suggest making sure to receive high scores on the ACT or the SAT. I took the ACT, so I bet if you got a 25 you should be fine to get in.

    Also once you're enrolled into the school, make sure you go to classes everyday and do the work. If you go to classes you'll get maximum attendance points which help toward the final grade and if you do the work you're helping yourself learn the material; if you're struggling in the class you have more going for you when you go to a professor for help.

The professors in the JSoM consistently demonstrate mastery of content knowledge and provide invaluable insight based on professional industry experience.     Indiana University offers a very comfortable living environment. The landscape of the campus is beautiful all year; the bubbling creek shines beautifully during the summer, majestic trees transform beautifully during the fall, snow caps the limestone buildings during the winter, and flowers blanket the campus during the spring. It may sound trivial, but the visual beauty of the campus really enhances students’ college experience.

    In addition, all the students that I have encountered at Indiana University are friendly and welcoming. Although there have been recent reports of rape and anti-Semitic activity on campus--which is appalling, no doubt--local police responded swiftly and I still feel very safe on campus.

    At Indiana University, students and their families definitely get their money’s worth. Students have access to talented faculty and expansive academic resources. The student body may be large, but it is always easy to contact professors and schedule one-on-one discussions. Additionally, Indiana University offers some of the best academic resources available. Plus, there are academic support centers and note-taking seminars throughout the campus that encourage student success in all fields. However, it is also easy for students to get lost in the shuffle, become distracted by relationships, and become over-involved in the party scene on such a large campus. It is important to have fun in college, but it is easy for students to fall into the heavy party scene at IU and watch their grades fall.     Thus far, my educational experience at IU has been nothing less than absolutely rewarding. Classes can be difficult, but the professors are ALWAYS available to discuss subject matter in their courses. Of course, there are some classes required for graduation which may not be directly apt to your major, but you're guaranteed to get something out of them, whether or not they're just gen-eds.

    In Bloomington, there is always something to do for anyone. There's a great social scene, but if you're not that social, worry not; there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy yourself without going out every night, such as free pancakes in your dorm lobby or a free movie screening in the stately Memorial Union. The campus is absolutely filled with gorgeous landscaping and scenery, and always feels safe, even in the early hours of the morning when the well-lit walkways illuminate the way home.

    There is simply an abundance of opportunity to be seized when it comes to getting the bang for your buck. Broadway musicals come through Bloomington to perform at the IU Auditorium, along with famous comedians, Platinum Record-selling artists, actors, and even authors. The art museum is full of ancient artifacts from cultures long-gone, while the Lilly Library possesses treasures of the past, including letters from Martin Luther King, Jr., Mary Shelley, and even a lock of George Washington's hair! The list goes on. Since my arrival in Bloomington, I've yet to cease finding new and exciting things at IU. There is always, always something.
    Tips for prospective students

    Don't be intimidated by the thought of IU being a big school, it's simply a collection of communities gathered into one gorgeous place. Besides, there are buses which come to any stop every 10 minutes and will be able to get you to any extent of the campus. However, when deciding which neighborhood to reside in, make sure to keep in mind where your academic classes will be so that you can get to them in an easy and timely manner!

    Indiana University gives students what they work for. Students can coast through with a C average and still graduate, or they can take advantage of the many opportunities and resources IU offers. The variety of classes is incredible, the professors approachable and eager to help, and there are resources available for those who take the time to utilize them.
    I am in the latter category of student; I try to take interesting classes and learn as much from them as possible. One of my favorite classes this semester is Music of the Andean Region. Before taking this class, I had very little knowledge of South American history and culture. But, this semester, I have used music as a lens through which to better understand Andean peoples. It has been a very rewarding study.

    At first, I was worried about attending such a large University. Most of the other colleges I considered were small, Liberal Arts colleges. But this worry turned out to be insubstantial. IU is so full of energy - there are always lots of interesting people doing lots of different things; the energy is incredible.
    However, commendable though IU's diversity may be, it was still somewhat overwhelming until I found my niche. Last semester I joined the Indiana University Ballroom Dance Team. Now, I have a solid group of friends who will continue to see a few times a week until I graduate.
    IU also has one of the most beautiful campuses I have seen. There is a law that whenever a tree is chopped down for a building, a new one must be planted somewhere else on campus. Because of this, IU's old stone buildings are surrounded by old trees, who's leaves turn to fire in the autumn.

    As I said before, IU will give you whatever you make an effort to take. If you work hard, go to class, and take advantage of the libraries, museums, professors, etc. IU is an excellent deal, for in-State students, anyway. I do not know what tuition is for out-of-State students, but I think that it would be worthwhile for anyone who is willing to make an effort.

    Get involved in clubs. They're fun, you'll make friends. This helps make you a happier, healthier person who is better able to deal with stress and studying.
    GO TO CLASS!!! This is not high school and skipping class is not rebellious and cool. You're paying to get an education, not a GPA and even if you can skip a class here or there and still get A's and B's, you will not learn as much. You're hurting yourself, not your professors. And remember, you're paying about $50 per class - don't just throw it away.

    IU is great for self-motivated people. Since there are so many students here, it is good to go above and beyond to get professors' notice. It is not, by any means, terrible for students who can follow the rules and do the work assigned, but outgoing students really shine here.

    The quality of education here is amazing. Coming here, I was nervous. I heard so many horror stories about how hard classes were, but it all depends on the type of student you are. It is important to remember you are here for school, so education comes first. I've found that the professors are always willing to help. Office hours are held many times a week which gives students a chance to meet one on one with their professors to get extra help. The professors want nothing more than to help their students get the best education possible.

    The campus is beautiful. While the walk to class may be a bit longer than some other universities, it is well worth it.
    There are so many students here that every one is bound to find a close group of friends that fit their personality.

What Indiana University has given me as far as experience and education is uncomparable to many other schools I have visited.     Coming here, I was very nervous about the size of the campus. I thought it would be hard to get from point A to point B on time, and I thought the cold, rainy weather would be killer to walk in. In reality, though, it's great exercise, and the view is great. Another thing I was worried about was how intimidating this big university was. The best advice I can give is to go in with an open mind and be prepared for anything. No matter the college you visit, keep an open perspective and look for what is best for you.

Our fine arts school, as well as Jacob's School of Music are pefect for you whether you are a major or simply want to be involved in electives. Interested in sports? IU is a Big 10 school and very involved in sports. There are so many opportunities for students here that any type of student is bound to find something for them. With the wide range of interests Indiana University draws in, it is guranteed that every student will find something they're interested in, as well as find a new group of people that share their interests with them.

    I have only been at Indiana University for a couple of months and I have already learned a lot, both educationally and about myself. As a freshman, the opportunities are endless to search for a career if you are undecided, or broaden your knowledge of your intended major. The professors here are extremely friendly and seem to enjoy what they are doing. They are always willing to help you and make learning something that you WANT to do.

There are always people willing to answer any final questions you have that will make your choice an easier one!

    IU is great for pretty much everyone because it is giant and diverse in it's student body and in the schooling that it provides. We do have an exceptional business school and a phenomenal music school if you are interested in those fields.     The upper level classes are great for learning new things. They have all sorts of classes over absolutely anything you want to learn. They even have a Yiddish class! The introduction classes are even good. Though you might not learn specific things in them, they are full of random facts.

    The campus is extremely beautiful in the fall! All the leaves on the trees are changing colors and walking through the woods is gorgeous. There a ton of different things to do here and the people are generally nice and welcoming.

    The classes are extremely interesting and the professors are awesome! They are always willing to help and meet up if you ever need it. Writing tutorial services, tutoring services, and so many other services are offered, and you can always find people in the libraries or sitting outside who can help you with anything!

    I love it here! I am so far away from home, but I feel like I am not as far. People here are so kind and open to different people. I love my roommate and my dorm. The friends I have made here I know will last a lifetime.

    I am paying out of state tuition to go to a state school, and it is absolutely worth it. I am getting an education that will help me persue the profession I choose.

    Send in applications early, you can sometimes find out sooner. Come visit, it's beautiful here, and the pictures just don't do it justice. Visiting is something I am so happy I did, because I was able to get a feel for the campus before I enrolled.

    IU is great for the student who likes to get involved and do more than what is just in the classroom. IU has so much school spirit and pride, and all students get involved in something.

    There is always some type of educational activity going on. My dorm constantly sponsors educational programs that are free to residents and they are interesting as well.
    Am enjoying being here

    IU is an amazing place to go to school. I love my dorm and all the activities they put on. We even do a haunted house for underprivileged kids. There is always something to do. You never have to be bored here. Take advantage of all of the free events that IU and the dorms put on.

    IU is expensive but well worth it. Professors are constantly available to help you and there are even free writing tutorials. the Career Development center can even help you write a resume.

    Have a major in mind when you come to school. There are so many options at IU that it can be a tad overwhelming at times. You are not alone. Find a good friend who is not just your roommate. Live at Collins Living Learning Center. They do the most amazing events and are always giving out free food which is a plus. Don't get a gym membership. Take advantage of the SRSC and the HYPER buildings.

    IU is great for students who love diversity but also like to have their own niche. IU is also great for students who want to be independent.

    Not only does IU give you the college experience where one must learn to be time efficient to be successful, IU offeres stimulating classes in a variety of classes set ups (ie. labs, lectures, discussion). Although it is a large university, professors are very open and available, in my experience, when it comes to office hours and answering questions. Each large class also is assigned with AIs, or assistant instructors whom have usually taken the class in the past and are a big help with trouble areas and review.

    IU Bloomington is in a safe area, and has an expansive campus. It is easy to get around either by walking or the campus and Bloomingotn bus services. Students are very friendly to one another, making it easy to meet others. Im very happy with my college experience so far and am glad I chose to attend such a large school.

    Although college is not easy to pay for, IU is less expensive than many schools in the new england area. Especially for students who live are from Indiana and are able to pay in-state tuition, IU is a great value. For out of state students, it is a good option although college is always going to feel pricey.

    Be open to new experiences regarding your classes and outside of the classroom at well. Be friendly around the dorm and explore the many activities offered on campus! When it comes time for classes to start, grab a map and walk to each building your classes will be held in the day before school starts. You'll feel less stressed the day of, and won't be that freshmen running in late!

    Iu is great for students who can handle a big school environment. If highschool got sufficating for you, Iu is a great way to start fresh and see more of the world. Everyone is very spirited and going to sports games and campus activities you can see everyone is proud to be a Hoosier!

    I am a journalism major and I have learned a lot in the classes I have taken so far and at the Indiana Daily Student, the college newspaper. I have learned more about design, which I discovered that I really enjoy, and my writing style has improved. Outside of those classes, I enjoyed the professors I had in chemistry, political science, classical studies and anatomy even though the subject manner was not always something I liked.
    Am enjoying being here

    I found my niche at Indiana and really enjoyed my first year. I got involved in the marching band and the school newspaper. I cannot wait to go back once the summer is over.

    Out-of-state tuition is unfortunately about three times more money than in-state tuition, but I feel that it is still worth it, given that I really enjoy the university and that my classes so far have been worthwhile.

    It's a cliche, but get involved. There are so many opportunities on campus, you are bound to find something you enjoy that you can learn from. Don't get too wrapped up in the party life, but still leave time to enjoy yourself. Also, be open to new ideas and don't be afraid to meet people outside of your usual social circle.

    IU is such a huge school that any person can come here. Yes, there are a lot of frat boys and sorority girls, but there are also a lot of people outside of the Greek life. Anybody can find their niche here. However, if a person does not enjoy a big-ten- school feel, they might want to steer away from this school.

    IU has an amazing school spirit that you won't be able to find anywhere else! Just like the students, the professors also have tons of spirit and really do enjoy being at Indiana University. The campus is beautiful and feels like home.
    Tips for prospective students

    Do not let the size scare you away! I was so afraid that I'd get lost, or fall into the background here, but I didn't! There are so many great opportunities at IU and literally hundreds of groups and organizations to join. You can even make your own! And after a week or two, the campus is really easy to navigate and starts to feel like the perfect size. I can make it to any class in under 30 minutes by walking. And the bus schedule is really easy to figure out, too. The best advice I could give you is to just come visit and see for yourself!
    Academic Rigor

    The work here is what you make it. If you go to class, study for your exams, and do the homework, you'll be just fine! While some of it can be challenging (or just long), the professors really make sure the homework is there to help you... not to burden you. You really do get what you put in.
    Dorm Life

    I have made so many great friends from living in the dorms! Something is always going on, and there's always new people to meet. The RA's really care about helping you with everything and they're super understanding. The rooms aren't too bad either.
    Food and Dining

    We actually have a TON of options on campus and off campus. The food courts are pretty good, but the really great food is on Kirkwood and 4th Street.
    What to do for fun

    Go to Kirkwood! It has tons of neat boutiques, restaurants, bars, and other fun stuff. There's also a big mall off campus, and a couple different movie theaters. The IMU on campus also screens free movies (we sometimes get movies before they are out in theaters!) and has bowling.

    If you are ever hungry, Pizza X has a lot of awesome deals. Also, Avers pizza sometimes drives around handing out free slices! You are never short of pizza in Bloomington.

    The Rosewell House located in the middle of campus is where you are supposed to kiss a sweetie at midnight. There's a legend that if you do, you two will get married. A lot of couples have also carved their names into the trees surrounding it. You can also shake the hand of the Herman B. Wells statue for good luck on any upcoming tests!

    The great thing about IU is that it's so big, anyone can find a home there!

    There are so many clubs and activities, I couldn't list them if I tried.
    Greek Life

    There are over 40 different Greek houses, so your chance of finding a house you like is pretty high. I didn't rush, though, but many of my friends did and they loved it. Still, not being a part of greek life doesn't hamper my experience at IU.
    Campus Safety

    Each dorm has an officer in training living in them, and the cops are all really nice. It's a pretty safe campus.

    The town of Bloomington is small enough to feel safe, but there's enough going on so that you don't get bored. Indiana University has a beautiful campus with plenty of chances to get involved. There are a ton of majors and minors to choose from!
    Tips for prospective students

    Be warned that the campus isn't all that small. It may take 10-15 minutes to get to some classes from certain buildings. The bus system is great, so I would suggest using that as often as possible. There is definitely a good party scene if you're into that, but you should be wary because there are a lot of police that keep close tabs on the town.
    Academic Rigor

    It all depends on what major you are. If you are in the Kelley School of Business or in the Jacobs School of Music, you will be constantly busy. Plenty of the other schools, however, aren't nearly as demanding.
    Dorm Life

    Once again, it all depends how social you are and what dorm you wind up in. If you're into partying, Briscoe or McNutt Quad would be great for you since it's close to the stadium. If you want to be close to campus and don't necessarily care about partying, the central location with Teter Quad and Wright Quad is perfect for you. There are plenty of options to choose from, but when you get placed, you only choose a part of campus and IU places you in a dorm.
    Food and Dining

    The dining halls at IU are amazing! They open early and stay open late. There are plenty of food courts, along with convenience stores and small bakeries in many of the halls at IU. At the Memorial Union, there is an abundance of choices, from Burger King to Pizza Hut to nicer options.
    What to do for fun

    It all depends on what you are into. There are so many different options to choose from. You have the option to join campus clubs that range from the salsa club to environmental groups. There are 2 movie theaters, along with a drive-in theater right outside of town. There are a couple lakes nearby and there's plenty of shopping.

    It can be a little pricey, especially for people coming from out of state, but I think it's all worth it. The alumni still feel a strong sense of community and tend to visit Bloomington annually.

    There is a state of Herman B. Wells (IU's most influential president) on campus, and you are supposed to shake his hand and he will give you good luck while you are at IU. There is also a story that a woman committed suicide in one of the dorms, and you can hear her scream at the strike of midnight on the night she killed herself.

    Outgoing, social types that enjoy meeting new people daily. There are also plenty of quiet people that go here, but I think social people excel more in this setting.

    Like I said before, there are tons of clubs to join. There's seriously a club for everyone and anyone. They have more social clubs, along with physical clubs like dance, tennis, and karate.
    Greek Life

    Greek life is pretty prevalent here, but you won't feel left out if you aren't involved. Many of my friends rushed, and some of them realized that it wasn't for them, many of them also decided that they love Greek life. The Greeks tend to be pretty easy to spot and can be stereotyped quite a lot.
    Campus Safety

    No matter where you go, there's going to be bad people that do bad things. IU and Bloomington is no different, except for the fact that we have a pretty good city and campus police force. Downtown can feel sketchy at night because there are many bars and quite a few homeless people walking around.

    Located in picturesque Bloomington, IU is known for being one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country - an absolute truth. Here you have the option about whether you want to take large lectures and be just a number or stick with small seminars and get a more interactive lesson. But, as a large research university, regardless of your preference, you have access to some of the foremost researchers in their fields and a quality education.

    The beauty of IU being such a huge school is that you are pretty much guaranteed to find your niche somewhere. Also VISIT CAMPUS. IU was not my first choice University until I visited it, when I fell in love with the campus and the feeling of it and could no longer picture myself anywhere else.
    Academic Rigor

    It's all about the effort you make and the classes you take. It's possible to get away with doing minimal work for minimal effort, but if you want to make the most out of your education, it's also possible to challenge yourself. I haven't taken any 'Easy A' classes, but that's been my choice.
    Dorm Life

    My experience is limited to my own dorm, but even from others I've talked to, almost all their friends were made on their dorm floor. You can pick your living arrangements by your interests, if you want. We have many Living Learning Communities and themed housing. Or you can live on a non-themed floor. Either way, chances are you will make friends and meet tons of people.
    Food and Dining

    Food courts on campus aren't... the best. For a long time Collins had the best reputation, but lately, even that stopped improving. The good thing is, there is a TON of amazing food right off campus. If you like ethnic food, there's Fourth Street. On Kirkwood, there's a Chipotle, a Noodles and Co., and a Panda Express, and there are several excellent restaurants for pancakes right off campus.
    What to do for fun

    Many underclassmen go to house parties, if they can find them. There's also a free weekly movie at the IU Memorial Union - movies that aren't in theaters anymore but aren't on DVD yet. Most dorms have TVs and lounges for movie nights in, and many have weekend programming specialized for people who want an option other than 'going out.' There are also several venues for music in Bloomington, and the IU Auditorium has pretty cool performances, though they tend to be pricey.

    My perspective is an out-of-state one. So I pay A LOT to go to IU. That being said, I don't regret a single minute of it, or a single penny spent. IUB is my home.

    Ask as many questions as possible. The willingness to help you is everywhere and in everyone. Get involved in what interests you! IU offers so many unique opportunities that other colleges do not so take advantage of them. And as always, put academics first.

    If you don't like to work hard, don't go here. If you find a class to not be challenging enough, there is always another one a couple of steps up that will do it. Professors here expect that you are capable of not only learning the material but also being able to conceptualize and apply it.

    The dorm life at IU is not what is stereotyped to be. The RA's are dedicated to their job, the janitors take pride in what they do, all RPS staff members want to make students comfortable, and everyone else strives to make your experience at IU one of a kind. Also, your roommate can kind of have a huge impact of your overall experience as well, so chose wisely!
    Food and Dining

    The only down fall is going from home cooked meals to whatever one can scrape up at a c-store or dining hall in order to feel satisfied in the hunger department. But for a less picky person, there are food options galore. Whether one is vegan, vegetarian, has food allergies, or loves everything food related something palatable is available.
    What to do for fun

    Oh, where to begin? Football games, basketball games, other sporting events, theatre productions, clubs and groups, exploring Bloomington, service events, trying the gobs and gobs of ethnic restaurants, dorm events, literally you name it, it should be possible at IU. And if it isn't? Make it!

    If you go to IU, then the words Little 500, Culturefest, Wells Library, Sample Gates, Kirkwood, Dunn Meadow, and Showalter fountain are all too familiar. Attending Little 500 race is a must at least once. Sitting around Showalter fountain with friends is relaxing. Culturefest is a nonstop learning experience. Learning all the cheers and traditions for football and basketball games is key. But before anything, shake the hand of Herman B. Wells' statue for good luck!

    Everyone attending this school has so much pride and love for it. It's such a great experience if you grew up in a smaller town. Although, the campus is big, and there are a lot of students, this is one amazing school.

    Always remember that your school work comes before partying. Students make the mistake of going out before getting their work done, and you will regret it. There's always something fun to do in Bloomington, and there's always the next weekend to have fun too!

    The course work was a big change from my high school. It was definitely challenged at first until I figured out how I needed to get things done. Once you make the transition, it's no problem at all.

    I personally had a great experience with the dorms. I met my best friends on my floor in my dorm. Some dorm buildings are better than others. I lived in Teter, which I think is one of the best. The dorms weren't too small and we had air conditioning in our rooms.
    Food and Dining

    At first, the food is great. But after a month or so, I was sick of the food. But if you're looking for food other than the dining halls, there's so many great choices. Especially, down by Kirkwood and the mall.
    What to do for fun

    There is never a dull moment in Bloomington. I personally went with my group of friends to our older friends houses, and various frats. We also stayed on occasion and had a girls night in, or a movie night. You can always find something to do here.

    Indiana University in Bloomington is one of the most beautiful college campuses in the world and the students have so much pride in their school. I would rate Indiana University a solid nine out of ten; I love everything about it, except the cost. I have been there a year and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else to further my education; I am, and always will be a Hoosier.
    Tips for prospective students

    My main tip for prospective students is to make sure they focus on their classes and grades. My GPA is not where it should, but I didn't realize just how much independence I would have and let my grades suffer. Another tip I have is to get involved. Indiana University has so much to offer; it is a little difficult to figure out where to start, but once you do get going, get involved with everything you can.
    Academic Rigor

    I'm sure this goes for every school, but you will find that some classes are much easier than others. The classes you would assume to be difficult, are. I would say the academic rigor is fair. College isn't meant to be easy.
    Dorm Life

    I lived in a dorm called Eigenmann, and I loved it. The rooms were massive. There was a food court in the basement, a bookstore, and even a rock climbing wall. Eigenmann held activities at least once a week, so there was always plenty to do. We had central heating and air conditioning as well, so while the weather fluctuated outside we could stay comfortable in our dorm room.

    There are multiple food courts on Indiana University's campus. All the food courts have a variety of foods. If you get tired of one kind of food you can simply go to a different food court and get something completely different to eat.
    What to do for fun

    There is so much to do for fun at Indiana University. There are countless intramural sports to get involved with. There are clubs for everything possible. The buses take you off campus so you can go out to eat or go shopping. The dorms hold many activities a week and they all vary. There really isn't ever a dull moment.

    As much as I love Indiana University, it is so expensive. My family is part of the working middle class and we struggled to get through my freshman year. Now, going into my sophomore year I have to find more scholarship money in order to go back in the fall.

    Indiana University is great for all types of students. The education one will receive is absolutely amazing, but with all the opportunities offered there, it is almost impossible to not have fun.

    Indiana University's Greek life is ranked #1 in the nation. I actually joined a sorority this year. At Indiana University, there are 20 sorority chapters and we are getting another this year I believe, there are only 25 total. We are only four chapters away from having every single sorority at Indiana University.
    Campus Safety

    Although everyone has heard about the missing Indiana University student from last June, Indiana University is safe. They offer safe rides (they come pick you up and take you to wherever you need to go) that are offered every night I think. There are also emergency lights every couple hundred feet around campus. The emergency lights have phones and buttons on them to contact the police.

    Most importantly study hard! Get involved on campus nad explore all IU has to offer: Greek life, Dance Marathons, basketball games, intramural and club sports, concerts, Little 500( Worlds greatest college weekend) and just about everything in between.     Living in the dorm freshmen year was an awesome experience. I dont think I have one negative thing to say about my dorm. I mett some many new people living in the dorms. All of the dorms are within about a ten min walk to the center of campus.

    Great food courts and C-stores. Lots of variety and access to many different types of food. As an upper class man I now miss the easy of eating at the food court everyday.

    Where do I begin with this? Iu offers so many things, I dont think I've ever been bored. Club sports, Philanthropy, clubs, free movies on the weekends, concerts, plays, little 500(bike race), greek life, Big 10 basketball, tailgating, football, shopping and dining ( close to campus)

    Little 500 is by far the best tradition on IU campus. This a bike race held every spring, based off of the Indy 500. It has been called the greatest college weekend!
    Indiana University Dance Marathon( IUDM) is a unique tradition started just over 20 years ago. IUDM is a philanthropy event to raise money for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. The majority of participates dance for 36hrs with out sitting down or sleeping. Last year over 1.8 million dollars were donated for the kids.

    Take electives that sound interesting to you, they will count towards your degree anyway. Try to attend at least one basketball game! Go to on campus events, you meet so many people you wouldn't have before.

    Social sciences and history courses tend to be more academically challenging. Mix up a tough schedule with some HPER classes like yoga or self-defense. Unless your are pre-med don't take upper level biology courses.
    Dorm Life

    Wright dorm in central campus is a great middle location. Make sure to bring a large window fan since most dorms don't have central air. Collins LLC offers a more art and vegetarian based setting.
    Food and Dining

    Wright food court is the best. Not many alternative non-meat, gluten, or dairy free options unless you go to Collins. Make sure to check out 4th street and the Union for a fun night out with a variety of food options and flavors.

    Join an intramural league, attend a sporting event, IU Cinema, and much more!

    IU will be as rigorous as you make it. As a premed Biology major, I work my butt off to get good grades, stay involved, etc. I know a lot of business students who have class 3 days a week and don't do a whole lot of anything. It all depends on your program and your goals in life.
    Dorm Life

    Roommate assignments are completely random at IU - no questionnaires or anything. If you and your roomie don't get along, it's not hard to switch rooms. The RA's do a decent job with programs for their floors, and 98% of the 40,000+ students on campus are super friendly and easy to talk to. Before you register for housing, you need to know that the Northwest neighborhood is full of business kids, athletes, and people who like partying, the Central neighborhood is more like the East neighborhood and probably has the best variety of people, and the Southeast neighborhood has lots more science and artsy kids because it's on that half of campus.
    Food and Dining

    Dorm food is dorm food wherever you go, but IU has fairly good dorm food. Plenty of variety all over campus, and Bloomington has some really REALLY awesome ethnic restaurants within walking distance of campus.
    What to do for fun

    There's a great mall close by, free movies every weekend at the Union, and downtown is just a hop, skip, and a jump from campus. Lots of people party on the weekends, but for the rest of us, people-watching can be just as entertaining. The Jacobs School of Music has TONS of free and cheap events, some of which you can even live stream on your computer, such as operas, ballets, and a veritable plethora of musical ensembles. Our athletics are great (except football), and our campus is amazingly beautiful all year round. You won't run out of fun stuff to do!

    For in-state students, IU is a great education at a great price. I have some out-of-state friends who are less than thrilled about the rising cost of education, but a degree from IU is one you can be proud of and one that will take you places, so it's worth every penny. Plus there is good financial aid/scholarships and tons of jobs around if you want extra help paying for school.

    The Little 500 bike race is the top one on my list - it's been ranked as the Best College Weekend in America! IU Basketball is a huge deal (definitely get the season tickets). Fun fact: we're the Hoosiers (no one really knows what that means, but we love our mascot all the same).

    Everyone! No matter what your interests, your background, or your goals, you'll feel right at home here. Even if you're afraid of a big school, you can make it as small as you want (introduce yourself to your professors and get to know them, join clubs, etc... or just don't ever leave your dorm... whatever floats your boat).

    There are practically a zillion things to choose from! You'll have trouble picking which ones NOT to join. During Welcome Week, you'll have a ton of opportunities to learn about different organizations in all areas - sports, academics, honors, volunteering, Greek, residence halls, etc.

    Very Greek. Apparently one of the most competitive sorority rushes in the country. But if you're not Greek, you won't struggle to find things to do or people to meet. If anything, you'll know a Greek, and a Greek knows everyone, so your friend can always hook you up with Greek-related activities.
    Campus Safety

    It's a pretty safe campus, with only a few minor incidents. Of course, there are the occasional freak accidents, but you'll find those anywhere. I don't think I've ever really felt unsafe. There's an escort service if you're walking home alone and you do feel unsafe, so that's nice to have.

    There is a mall pretty close to campus. There is a movie theater in the IMU that students can attend for free. There is a bowling alley and an arcade in there too, but you have to pay for those. The art museum is free for students. The IU Auditorium has some good shows come through during the year.

    The campus is beautiful. If you want to go to a place where you're surrounded by trees and flowers, this is the place to go. Most buildings are pretty clean. My classes are interesting enough.

    Indiana University is a beautiful campus that has a variety of different things to do. Students can choose to become a part of their Greek Life culture or get involved in other many other great student organizations. Bloomington has so much to offer as a town and can open your eyes to many different cultures and ethnic groups.

    IU-Bloomington has a very large Greek Life populations. If you do not enjoy a party scene or rambunctious young adults running around on the weekends then do not attend this school. IU is a great graduate school for serious scholars but a typical, wild, experience for undergrads.
    Academic Rigor

    In high school I had a 3.6 GPA and was highly involved in student activities and sports. Here at IU I don't feel I am challenged as much as I would like to be. Certain programs and majors are more difficult than others, such as International Studies and the Kelly School of Business (which is nationally renowned). Overall I have plenty of time to balance my school life with my social life.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life here is great because you can choose to live on floors designated to your personal interests (such as outdoor adventures) or your major. The RA's are fabulous and always try to get everyone involved on their floor to participate in non-drinking related activities.
    Food and Dining

    I most definitely gained weight when I was a freshman because I loved the dorm food. Some food courts are better than others and the C-Store is a place where you can mock grocery shop for smaller items, which tend to be nutritious and healthy!
    What to do for fun

    IU has a fabulous Art Museum and Theatre. The Union Board is always bringing popular artists to perform throughout the year, for example: Dave Matthews Band, Lil Wayne, and Sublime. There is always a performer that will appeal to the masses. We also have a great bar scene in Bloomington off of Kirkwood Av. and is very popular amongst the of-age students.

    IU is a very expensive school if you are out-of-state, and I would advise you to really think about spending your money more wisely if you are not from Indiana. IU has great academics, but so do other states in the Midwest and around the country. Indiana University charges so much more to students who are out of state (like me) and it has become very overwhelming for me when I think about how much I'll have to pay back in loans.

    The largest intercollegiate cycling race is held here in Bloomington called the Little 500. The movie Breaking Away is about this great event. Teams from the Greek houses and Independent teams in the area all compete in a race modeled after the Indy 500 car race. It is incredibly exciting and has been going on for over 60 years here!

    There are so many things to do for fun! I am involved in CRU and love the friendships I have made there. It is fun to walk around campus with friends at night and visit the Art Museum. There are beautiful lights projected on the wall and students love to lay on the ground and hang out there. Hoosier Den is also a fun place for students to go with friends to eat junk food, sing karaoke, and play board games until 3am on weekends.

    Geocaching is a fun tradition on campus. There are geocaches placed all over campus for students to search for and when you find one, you write your name on it. Another fun tradition is Little 500 week where there are tons of events and concerts leading up to the big race.

    It is a university that offers a wide variety of areas of study; there is a degree for every different type of person. The professors employed at IU-Bloomington are extremely knowledgeable in their fields and, because it is a research university, are not only teaching their particular subjects but are also actively involved in and always current on the most up-to-date information out in these subjects as well. The campus itself is incredibly beautiful and provides a aesthetically pleasing setting during all four seasons of the year.

    Get involved in everything possible to start; your involvement can be cut down and your interests more directly narrowed as you go but it is always better to have tried something out than to always wonder what if. Also, more importantly, it is MUCH easier to maintain a good GPA than it is to get a lower one back up to where it should be, it does not take much to hurt your GPA in college.

    IU-Bloomington has there own police force, the IUPD, which are great at what they do and are pleasent in the process. My only suggestion would be for additional Call for Assistance buttons of some sort to be placed throughout campus in case of emergencies.
