    Am learning a lot

I am really enjoy the culinary program that Ivy Tech of Central Indiana is offering. All of the educators and the head of the culinary department, Chef Bricker are very involved and accredited for their positions. Everyone shows lots of passion and excitement for what they do. This helps me to feel the same and deffinatly encourages my learning. I feel as though they really care about the success of their students.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at Ivy Tech because I know that I am refining myself into a more educated and disciplined individual through my work and studies here. Also when you are around people who are excited about sharing/teaching what they do, it makes it all the more enjoyable.

    Bang for the buck

I chose Ivy Tech at first because I did not know what I wanted to go to school for and I did not want to waste a ton of money trying to figure it out either. Ivy Tech was a great chpice for me because I am now working on a degree that I love. I am happy with the culinary program here at Ivy Tech and am planning on finishing my degree here.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for school is to figure out what you want to do. Research all you can and find out everything you need to know for what you plan on going for. Be sure of what you want then go for it. Work hard and give it the best you've got. Don,t give up over struggle for struggle is what leads to new growth.:)

Great for these types of students

Ivy Tech is great for people still trying to figure out what path they want to take. A class you take and don't use costs a lot less here at Ivy Tech than it does at the big name four year schools. The Culinary program is for people like me who learn best through hands on involvement and close connection with hard working educators. I really appreciate everything that Ivy Tech and mainly their culinary program is doing for me the student.

If you plan to attend IUPUI, do your first two years here to save much money. The pre-engineering courses I have taken have, so far, been demanding and rewarding. There is an amazing selection of courses, so consider trying something different (e.g., machinist classes), as the tuition costs are low enough that dabbling won't destroy you financially.

    Tips for prospective students

Put your cell phone away and study. Purdue University is quite arrogant, so the engineering- and technology-specific courses here will likely not transfer there. Keep in mind Purdue-West Lafayette is so snobbish it even refuses to accept credits from its own branch campuses of the College of Technology (and who knows what else). Keep in mind that pre-engineering and engineering technology are different. The engineering courses may be allowed to fill certain engineering technology requirements, but it does not work the other way, which a few students I know have found out the hard way.

    Academic Rigor

The pre-engineering courses have been rather demanding (and enjoyable), but I also try to do more exercises from the material than are assigned. As for other courses, I do not know, as I've filled my general education credits elsewhere.

    Food and Dining

I've never eaten on the campus, because I have to watch my spending.

    What to do for fun

I'm a non-traditional engineering student: I don't have a social life, so I don't know. However, Indianapolis is a large city with many possibilities. Ivy Tech makes clear efforts to involve students in more than courses alone and does a good job informing them of various activities on campus.

    Bang for the buck

The Pre-Engineering programs in EE and ME transfer to IUPUI. You can knock out the first two years of study in these two engineering fields, get an AS degree, and transfer to IUPUI without losing time or much money. The Ivy Tech GPA doesn't transfer to IUPUI (you just get the credits), but that's a small price to pay for saving thousands of dollars to enjoy smaller classes.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to save money and transfer to IUPUI. If you have vocational interests, it's a superb choice.

    Campus Safety

Perhaps very late at night in summer it would be a bad idea to hang around once the buildings are locked up. There are guards and the parking garages are patrolled.

i am surprised at the quality of the instructors that the school has provided at such a low cost! they are extremely personable and understand that the only reason that you are there is to improve your future. therefore, they treat you with the attention and the dignity that you require and deserve.

    Tips for prospective students

do not down-play ivy tech simply because it is a community college. it is still a higher learning institution and the level of study and work that is involved is comparable to any four-year school that i have experienced. you are receiving a quality education that you will be able to take with you anywhere in life.

    Academic Rigor

while this may not be an ivy league school, it is still an institution of higher learning and thus requires more from you than high school did. the classes are competitive and the academic standards are high.

    Food and Dining

there is very limited food. it only consists of vending machines.

    What to do for fun

there are plenty of locations in the downtown area to go to. since this is a community college, campus is usually dead after 10 o'clock.

    Bang for the buck

surprisingly enough, for the cost of the school (which is very low comparably speaking) the quality of education is very high. the education that you receive for the money you spend is exceedingly high.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the new julia carson center has just opened up and is a beautiful facility that allows for a very relaxed atmosphere that is conducive to studying.

Great for these types of students

this is great for low income students who are trying to make it. it is also perfect for those people who have family obligations (i.e. you are a parent) and for those students who plan to be working while they are attending classes.

    Clubs and Activities

there are very limited opportunities to get involved in any clubs or activities. at the very least i have not seen any advertised.

    Greek Life

greek life is non-existent on this campus.

    Campus Safety

    Tips for prospective students

first of all, it recommended that future students have in mind the choice of career, so it is easier entry to it. second, engaging fully in the study, seek guidance and direction of teachers as well as the right tools for research and development projects of the same.
third, develop interdependence, that means: help each other in class, each partner makes his contribution a classroom, and that contributes to career success.

    Academic Rigor

ivy tech as another academic institution demands a lot from their students, engage in research, academic support during search and after school. thus also study and prepare for projects and evaluations during the academic semester.

    Dorm Life

    Will learn a lot

I have attended a great New Student Orientation and they helped me figure out what I needed to do to accomplish 2 of my 50 plus goals I have academically! It was so great to learn how to get a head start on my classes and know what I should be looking for because classes seem to go very fast in availability whenever they become available! They didn't rush me or interrupt and they helped me make sure I was on track for classes up to 4 semesters so that I wouldn't be aimlessly searching for classes that might not apply to my current major or future goals.

    Will enjoy being here

I have been to the North Meridian Campus, it is always clean, quiet but has an air of excitement and honor to it. There is an overall great vibe about this school and the staff that I have met are very personable, professional and easy to get along with.

    Bang for the buck

very gentle on the pocket, especially if you are an in state resident!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for their scholarships, grants and the FAFSA application online and as early as possible or you will miss out on grants you qualify for! I am a 21st Century Scholar and I did not receive my scholarship simply because of the date for which the FAFSA was received by their financial aid office..... I am worried I won't get my books in time to start class right now because they have a policy where it can take up to a month for me to receive my loans even though I am taking late start classes. Kind of boggles me. They should implement a voucher program where they will charge our accounts for the estimated amount of how much books cost and then when the loans get there subtract the actual amount we spent from the amount of our loans or other financial aid.

Great for these types of students

Those serious about college will really benefit from this college because if you need help with anything someone at that school no matter how many people you have to talk to, WILL help you solve your problem whether it is paperwork or otherwise!
