Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Try to do well in highschool now, because they give out HUGE scholarships and campus awards to people that got good HS grades. I didn't even go to a vocational school in HS, and I'm doing baking & pastry, and they gave me almost 16K for the four years, plus 10K just for this year. I can't stress this enough.
Great for these types of students Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry, etc.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The goal of college is obviously to obtain a good paying job and make a career out of it. With that said, the Culinary and Pastry Arts are as they say blue collar jobs with white collar degrees. Because it is a blue collar profession, a willingness to work hard and work experience are your two biggest tickets to a good job. Johnson and Wales cannot give you very much in the experience category, but what they can do is provide a platform to start from and work connections to jobs that you otherwise could not have gotten. These connections come either from the school itself, through the culinary instructors and their connections, or through fellow students. This school will not teach you great recipes, but moreover it will teach you cooking techniques and the sciences behind it. They will also teach you professionalism and management. If you have any of these skills already you will likely find that portion of the classes east and possibly feel as if you are wasting your time.
Am enjoying being here The dining halls have a tendency to be less then what is expected of them for a culinary university, but you can always move to off campus housing and cook for yourself. Also, being a city with a large number of colleges makes it a great place for college students. There are a lot of low budget apartments throughout the city that change out yearly should you wish to live off campus.
The city is full of stores and restaurants that tailor to the needs of college students and their budgets. There are also a number of preforming arts centers and concert halls as well. But, if you wish to save up your money there are a number of fine dining restaurants that are well worth their prices.
There is a very active athletic department at JWU, containing baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, ice hockey, sailing, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling. In addition, JWU has a number of different intramural tournaments and clubs going on throughout the year.Bang for the buck All depends on how much financial aid you're receiving, and there is a lot offered. There are three academic scholarships available, and their qualifications can be found on the JWU website. $2,500, $5,000, and $7,500 per year. The last one does require you to become a member of the Collegiate Honors Society, which costs about $50 per year and has volunteer service attached to it. There are also multiple scholarships based on club memberships and involvement, such is FBLA, DECA, and FCCLA. These do require you to join the National Student Organization, but will renew annually from there. There are no athletic scholarships, because it is a Division III school. There are a number of jobs you can get as a freshman, on and off campus. One example employer being Brown University, which needs employees for its dinning halls and banquets. On campus you can apply to work through the work-study program, but if you do not qualify you will have to find a job off campus.
Tips for prospective students Dorm life is rather convenient with the majority of the freshman in one place as well as being very close to the class rooms, kitchens, one of the dinning halls and the recreation center. Last year all freshman we're allowed to have a car on campus too, for $50. But between the JWU bus system and free RI Public Transportation that may not be necessary.
Fraternities and Sororities are mostly students from the downcity campus, being the business and hospitality majors, but you can still easily join if that interests you.Great for these types of students Goal oriented and hardworking are two traits that are very helpful at this university; among creative, calm under pressure, and acting with common sense.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning so much here at Johnson and Wales! It's so interesting to discover how very much you can learn in a 9 day lab (granted the labs are 6 hours each day!). I believe that the different skills and techniques I am learning at J&W I wouldn't be able to learn easily at home. It's wonderful to have the professional chefs help you every step of the way. The chefs are really nice when you ask them questions; most of them explain things over again if needed.
Am enjoying being here I love being here at J&W, but I do get homesick and sometimes I can't find anything to do. Usually during the week I am doing homework or hanging out in the dorms with my roommates or friends. But having a 3 day weekend can get long and boring if you have nothing to do. I usually hang out with the same people every weekend, but if they go home or are busy with something else, I find that I have nothing to do and I usually watch TV, do homework or read. I will have to work on this and I'm confident I will be busier as the months move forward.
Bang for the buck I wanted to give this 4 1/2 stars. I am definitely learning a lot and using some great equipment that I do not have access to at home, but there never seems to be enough of each piece of equipment for each student to use. I certainly don't mind sharing, but it can get frustrating to only have 5 saute pans in a class of 20 students. There is a new building opening up that is extremely nice and it has brand new equipment. And maybe this is all a planned part of the training they're providing!
Tips for prospective students - Get to know your professors and chefs!
- Don't be shy. Meet new people. Don't hang out in the dorm all day.
- Get involved.
- Don't slack off.
- Make sure culinary is really what you want to do. It's hard and it's frustrating for those who don't have a passion for culinary or baking & pastry.
- Be prepared to work really hard in your 6 hour lab.
- Know how to iron before you get here! Seriously.Great for these types of students Hard working students who are passionate about cooking or baking.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Johnson & Wales is NOT JUST A CULINARY SCHOOL. There are two campuses three miles apart from each other, I am attending the downcity campus studying Sports/ Entertainment/ Event mangement. Jwu takes a different approach and puts students right into their major classes in the first trimester. It is a great school for students who know what career path they would like to pursue in the future. All the teachers have had experience in the industry on the subjects they teach which helps students relate topics being learned to real world experiences.
Am enjoying being here There is many options for students in their time outside of class. The downcity campus is a 10 minute walk to the Providence Place Mall, The Dunkin Donuts Center (where the Providence Bruins play in the winter), and close to all attractions geared towards young adults. Night Clubs are two blocks away from freshman dorms, where as the frat houses are a 10 minute bus ride on the RIPTA. (near Providence College)
Oh yeah, they do not hold classes on Fridays.Bang for the buck Johnson and Wales is a private university but gives out a lot of aid per year. Having between a 3.0 and 4.0 GPA can get you anywhere from $5,000/year to full tuition. (minus room and board). There are also many opportunities for working on campus (as a work study) or as a Student Assistant in a computer lab or at the gym which can gain a student hourly wage PLUS a $1,000 scholarship per trimester. ALSO THE APPLICATION IS FREE AND NO RECOMENDATIONS NEEDED!
Tips for prospective students This school is great for students who are career oriented and also want to have the college experience (where you cannot get at community college or vocational school)
Culinary Majors is either a hit or miss, freshmen either love the program or they hate it.Great for these types of students Culinary arts enthusiasts
Career oriented students (TONS of job fairs throughout the year)
Students who want to be exposed to different cultures. (JWU has a huge international program)Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of the classes I am taking I have been learning a ton! I was a little shocked at first by all the things that were being thrown at me, but I am getting used to it. All the professors are really understanding and they will help you pass. They want everyone in their class to do good and to get good grades so they can get a job. The classes are small so they teachers will know who you are which is always a good thing. I am learning more than I think I would at any other school because I am starting classes right from my major in freshman year, rather than other colleges you don't start classes from your major till junior year.
Am enjoying being here I LOVE IT HERE! It is such a good environment. Everyone is really nice and helpful. Plus the downcity campus is right in the city so you can walk anywhere you really need to, you don't have to worry about taking a bus everywhere when you can just walk there. The Harborside is also very nice and the food at all the dining halls is delicious. There are alot of options for food and you can also swipe at City Burger and Starbucks with your ID card which is also good. All the companies around the college to will also give you a discount if you show them your student ID card. Plus there are no classes on Fridays!
Bang for the buck This is definitely a bang for the buck. You can choose from 8 resident halls to live in, you can chose resident halls if you want your own private bathroom, there are many dining halls here to chose from that have all different types of food, all the companies give out student discounts, there are two gyms, no classes on Friday, and you can ride the RIPTA bus system for free.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you stay caught up on your work and you will do fine.
Great for these types of students Students who know what they want to do and are looking for a career college. This college sets you up with internships starting sophomore year so you can start your career.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Johnson & Wales University is a university that is more focused on the money and preparing us for our jobs over many crucial things. I belive the work is fairly easy and most people say so. overall i love the school and it will defiantly help get that degree
Am enjoying being here at Johnson & Wales University there is never a dull moment, there is always something to do. every year they host the Wildcat wahoo which is a carnival for the students its free and its really fun. this year we will be having rapper Snoop Dogg come preform at the wildcat wahoo. Johnson & Wales University really tries when keeping us entertained
Bang for the buck Honestly i love the school but the price is fairly on the higher end. even at that they continue to charge for anything they can. sometimes i feel there more interested in money over our educations. they say they help out allot and that's true. but they charge an arm and a leg to go here
Tips for prospective students enjoy it while it last, and APPLY TO BE A RESIDENTIAL ASSISTANT. i couldn't tell anyone enough, also a big prepare tool that most people don't realize till its to late, WORRY ABOUT YOUR LOANS BEFORE THE LAST FEW MONTHS meaning if you start school in Sept. start to work on your loans in June
Great for these types of students students who couldn't get into another school but want to go to a private school, students who want to get experience in there major

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I think so far I've learned alot here not just about school work and my profession or major, but about life and being an adult at this school due to the many organizations this school offers.
Am enjoying being here I cant lie i have a great time being here, besides school work I've joined other organizations on campus and i encourage anyone who plans to attend this school to do the same it gives you the whole college experience
Bang for the buck All I can say is do good in high school they give out plenty of scholarships for good grades, plus they have great academic advisers that can help you along the way money-wise so don't get discouraged by the cost
Tips for prospective students Try to get the best grades possible before you graduate high school, be prepared to do alot of work this is college, and also be prepared for the best 4 years of your life
Great for these types of students This school is great for culinary majors and tech majors

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Johnson & Wales does a great job at having various interesting classes to take. There is something for everyone. It is easy to love the classes and the professors due to the great learning environment.
Am enjoying being here There is a lot to offer when it comes to activities at Johnson & Wales. Each week there is at least two or three events anyone can attend. From mini-golf and trips to amusement parks to other things like movie night and bingo. It's a great social experience
Bang for the buck The tuition is the lowest I've seen and the school looks great. You can tell they put great effort into making the residence halls look great and make sure the food is always fresh. Well worth the money.
Tips for prospective students Don't spend too much time partying, studying is key at this school.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences johnson & wales university attracts a huge party crowd. since providence is mostly populated of college kids, there is a lot going on. you really learn who you are up here, meet people who you'll never forget, and you'll make the best decisions you will ever make.
Tips for prospective students providence isn't the safest area. i suggest to always walk in groups of people. since there are a lot of robberies, shootings and stabbings around the campus, i wouldn't stay out too late or walk on any not well lit streets. always take precaution.
Academic Rigor the academic classes are pretty easy. although, someone may also find the classes hard. the professors are really flexible and relaxed.
Dorm Life so much fun! for culinary students, i suggest you dorm in harborside. all other majors, dorm in the downcity campus. always a party in the dorms, but beware of the ra's!
Food and Dining the food in the dining halls are really far from what i expected from a culinary school. the food is really disgusting sometimes, but i would say marketplace, located in the downcity campus, is my favorite.
What to do for fun go to the providence place mall, there is a ton of shopping there! there's also waterfire, which is fun to see in september with your new friends! also, i love going to thayer st. near brown university to go out to eat!
Bang for the buck johnson and wales is really for people who are social. the classes are really hands on, you work in groups a lot. the culinary program is fantastic, there's a lot of on campus jobs in the dining halls that will hire you if you qualify!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the halls always have cute little events. snowden once gave the students the opportunity to pie an ra for $2, and an rd for $3. all the money went to a local fundraiser.
Great for these types of students johnson and wales is great for social, easy going, outgoing people. this school is a big party school. anyone who wants to start their social life over again is given the opportunity here.
Clubs and Activities this university doesn't feature a football team. we also don't have a homecoming, which is quite disappointing. if you're really big on going to school games, this school doesn't really have it.
Greek Life as in every school, all the cool kids are in frats and sororities. if you're not cool you won't be allowed into the frat and sorority apartments. to be honest, their really full of people who had to pay to have friends. a lot of people don't like them up here.
Campus Safety although the campus is located in a not-so-safe location, safety and security really patrol the area and do their job well. especially on weekends when students are coming in from clubs and parties along with the local crowd.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i love the way the faculty showed us around the university. they gave me a clear understanding about the business classes that i was interested in. i look forward to attending jwu this fall.
Academic Rigor i have personally had a conversation with one of the business professors. the material that is being taught really makes you think and go about things in a more hands on approach.
Dorm Life the dorms were a bit small in certain buildings. i'm not sure if i would like the size of it. however, it is good that you are required to keep your room decent and neat.
Food and Dining on the tour, the food and dining was awesome. they offered a variety of foods and even a section serving gluten-free foods. the cafeteria was really comfortable.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Since I am an engineering major and have never taken a computer class before, I am learning something new everyday.
Am enjoying being here For the most part the school is decent. The only thing to do on weekends is to go clubbing but since I don't club, that leaves me with nothing to do.
Bang for the buck Even though its a lot of money its definitely worth the money. There are many benefits you wont receive else where. The room and board charges are ridiculous but other wise, everything is good.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Almost everyday you are learning something new, whether it's in academics or a lab. Even though the labs are only 9 days long you retain ALOT of information in those day. You will spend about an hour doing lecture in the beginning of class then for the rest of the 6 hours you are learning hands on work and you get to try what you eat. The chefs work with you so you can gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed. As for academics you spend almost 2 hours learning the same stuff you learn in high school but sometimes in a fun and interesting way.
Am enjoying being here Honestly I love it here. Everyone is so friendly and yes I do get homesick sometimes but i get over it when I am hanging out with people. The dorms are very nice especially the upperclassmen ones because they are like an apartment style (good thing to look forward to) but they can be pricey. The food on campus isn't always that great but there are alot of places around the campus to eat at. Also you use your ID card to swipe for food. You get 15 swipes a week and 5 guess swipes a trimester so use it wisely. There's also a Starbucks on both the Harborside and Downcity Campus. There are many of different clubs, organizations, and sports to do so i recommend getting involved in something because you meet alot of new people that way.
Bang for the buck It is definitely worth it here. Yes it is expensive (about 33,000 for tuition and then you include your dorm fees) but it also all depends on what you have for financial aid. But you learn different tricks and tips and the school helps you find jobs after you graduate. Sometimes your internship can turn into your actual job for the rest of your life or for how long you wanna stay there. You also can choose from a variety of different resident halls and dining halls so your options aren't really limited. A final thing is apply for every and any scholarship you find because it will help you out in the long run. But there are jobs on and off campus that are easy to get.
Tips for prospective students ~Apply for EVERY scholarship
~Don't always party because studying is important especially is a teacher decides to give a pop quiz (yes they do, do this).
~Get involved in different and meet new people. Don't be afraid to talk to someone everyone is nice.
~Get to know you chefs they can get you connections outside schools sometimes.
~Prepare to do more work than you did in college. Also they don't really accept anything late so make sure everything is in on time.
~Make sure you know how to iron good and shine your shoes. Starch works amazing on your uniforms. If your a culinary major Chef Fuchs is REALLY strict about uniforms and he will confront you if somethings wrong with it.
~Make sure you don't miss more than 2 days of a lab because after the 2nd day you are dropped from that lab and are going to have to take it over.Great for these types of students ~Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot JWU helps you in the field of your choice as soon as class begins. You learn what is expected of you as the year begins and puts you in a good spot for when you begin your job/career.
Am enjoying being here After going to orientation and staying there, I honestly feel the JWU is the right fit. There are so many things to do so there is no way that you can have boredom.
Bang for the buck JWU's tuition, books, uniforms and rooms all together is a high number around 30,000-39,000 but filing for financial aid early can help. Do scholarship applications so you wont need to take out student loans.
Tips for prospective students Keep your grades and GPA's high so that you can gain scholarship money.
Great for these types of students Anyone who wants to learn from a great culinary arts & baking/pastry program but wants to also have a good, fun time away from home.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot This school, when I went to their Wildcat Weekend, I learned so much. They have you learn about what they offer and they do it efficiently, with little to no boring parts.
Will enjoy being here I love Providence and having JWU right in the heart of Providence, RI is both exciting and amazing!
Bang for the buck Tuition, I found, was on the cheaper side. The average out-of-state cost was $36,600. Their average financial aide is $18,300 a year. So all in all you'll be paying around $18,300 that includes room and board!!
Tips for prospective students Check out the campus first... If you don't like the city you might not like this school....

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This university is very goal oriented and I’m actually learning a lot about my chosen career at this school. I’m a sophomore graphic design major and I have gotten a lot of ‘hands on’ training that I’m sure will help me in the future. The professors are very nice and usually go out of their way to help you understand something that you didn’t understand in class. The great majority of them won’t let you just crash and burn. Also, there are tutors available at the university and certain groups (clubs) that can help you with homework and/or understand things you did not get in class. If you actually manage to fail a class in this university it would be your own fault because the school provides help and professors are usually willing to help you.
Am enjoying being here Yeah, I really like being here. I’m a commuter student but I go and hang out with my friends that live on campus. Since I’m a graphic design major my school of technology is in the downtown area (and the dorms are too) so there’s always something to do over there. There’s a skating rink in walking distance, the city’s mall, and there are a bunch of stores and restaurants around the area. Also, there are a bunch of clubs almost directly behind the freshman dorms that will be full of students during the weekend. The school also provides free transportation within the state RIPTA (Rhode Island buses). The transportation does become in handy because the main in-state (Rhode Island) bus station is right in the downtown area which is within walking distance. I usually leave my car at home and just take the bus to save gas and time so I don’t have to look for a parking space. Also, there are private Johnson and Wales buses just for students that will take you to the buildings where your classes are if you live in certain dorms and to the parking lots at harbor side.
Bang for the buck Yeah, you get a lot of opportunities in this school to actually do good and get your degree. The computers (MAC) for graphic design are always up to date in everything: software and hardware wise. The facilities are well maintained and the bathrooms are always,at least 98% of the time, freaking-shly clean. The only thing that I don’t really like is the fact that during the winter some of the classrooms in certain buildings are cold, as in leave-your-sweater-on-cold but that might just be me though because I get easily cold.
Tips for prospective students Do really good in high school because they give out a lot of scholarships. These past two years in this school I have gotten around 35,000 in scholarships so do good in high school AND don’t forget to apply for the FAFSA.
Great for these types of students Goal oriented students who want to be someone in life. If you are planning on skipping classes don’t bother coming to this school, you will only waste your parents’ money. They keep track of attendance so you’ll be screw and fail at everything (including life). Also, I think this school is good for both the academic and party type of student because it is so goal-oriented and still has a lot of things around it to make it fun.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot I felt that it isnt a good school for the Fashion Merchandising and Retail Marketing majors. It wasn't as hands-on as other schools.
Did enjoy being here Providence is a very pricey city. I loved the school but I was too far away from home. I couldnt get a job because I wasnt 18 yet and I always had to call home and ask my mom for money. The food in the dining halls could have been better especially when the school is known for its Culinary Arts program.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences johnson and wales is super friendly and welcoming, i always find myself saying hi or being welcomed where ever i go. the professors are extremely nice and care about your success. this is a small school though, there are definite pros to going to a small school, but make sure you consider the cons!
Tips for prospective students be prepared for a small school, you know pretty much everyone in your class which i like but just make sure you consider that. also it really helps to know what you want to go into when coming to the school, because the university starts you in your major's classes from day one you'll find out fast if you want a career in that.
Academic Rigor i'm a marketing major, so don't be scared away because you think it's a culinary school! i love the professors, they're very understanding and want you to do well. all assignments are extremely industry relevant, i haven't found myself thinking, why am i learning this yet. the university also strongly believes in working in groups along with having guest speakers. it really prepares you for the real world.
Dorm Life i absolutely love the dorm life! everyone always has their doors open, the ra's are usually really awesome, everything is pretty laid back, the dorms are bigger than any other college i visited. i strongly suggest living on campus at least one year, it's so much fun and you meet tons of people. students hang out in the common rooms all the time, you'll always find someone either watching tv, playing ping pong or pool, and of course cooking something delicious in the kitchen!
Food and Dining they have great food compared to other colleges. they also have healthy and vegetarian options. sometimes they'll also have guest chefs make their specialty dish, which is always really good. the food is always varying so you don't really get bored, and is almost always made in front of you!
What to do for fun there are tons of things to do. denver is an awesome location. if you run out of things to do on campus (which is hard) there's always something going on if it's coffee house, movies in the jpa, or comedy corner. we're about an hour away from mountains, and 15 minutes from downtown.
Bang for the buck you can't find many schools that are so industry relevant. the school has a main goal of not just finding that first job, but developing a career. the connections you make, and knowledge you learn is worth the money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus music plays on campus all of the time, it's really nice when walking to class.
Great for these types of students students that know what field they want to go into, motivated students because the work load is sometimes a lot, and students that are fun and outgoing you'll fit in with everyone here!
Clubs and Activities they have a lot of things you can do! i listed some of the things earlier but cab (campus activity board) has tons of things to do every week, then there's always tons of clubs you can join. if you don't find something you like, you can always and are encouraged to make one! one of my friends the other day created a happiness club.
Greek Life there is one sorority, i don't know much about it. i think they're trying to expand but for now it's not that big. which a lot of people find to be a good thing, it's not a greek ran school for sure.
Campus Safety i always feel safe on the campus. campus safety is always around. there's also a hotline you can call if you need anything! there are well lit pathways all of the time, and i've never felt scared when walking at night.

Am enjoying being here As a CE student, there's not much collegiate life to be had. You get in, you get out. JWU rarely fosters their CE community as much as they do their Day division.
Bang for the buck JWU's Day division costs aproximately $25,000 per academic year. You're allowed up to 18 credits per term and you get all the accoutrement that comes with being a regular college student. However, for the best bang-for-the-buck, their CE program is where it's at. CE students are not allowed to study abroad, hold work-study jobs, or represent JWU in sports. But you'll barely realize that because you'll be too dumbfounded by the fact that your tuition costs is less than half of the Day division. A 12 credit CE term costs $3,000.
Great for these types of students Johnson and Wales University is excellent for culinary students. Their culinary arts, baking and pastry as well as their nutrition programs are top-notch and you're almost guaranteed to have a successful career in the field if you apply yourself. Johnson and Wales University is also great for CE students and Adult Learners who have full-time jobs during the day. Their night classes are taught by some of the most knowledgeable and interesting professors. The 3 hour class time will just fly by.

Academic Rigor The academics seem very easy to do.
Dorm Life Dorm life is perfect. I can't to hang out with my roommate and friends, plus the Mcnulty dorm has private bathrooms.
Food and Dining The food was amazing when I went there for Wildcat Weekend.
What to do for fun Go to clubs, restaurants, the mall and just hang out in the dorms and talk to everyone.
Bang for the buck The places are cheap to suit a college persons needs.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus No. The traditions from my school are douchy lol.
Clubs and Activities I want to keep all my options open. I want to be able to get a job. That is a priority before clubs.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Johnson & Wales prepares its students for the future with lots of hands on experience including internships and volunteer opportunities. Students give back to the surrounding area often and have developed a phenomenal reputation in Providence. Professors here actually seem interested in their students academic welfare and goals for the future.
Tips for prospective students Complete your general education classes before attending, as Johnson & Wales is an expensive university, and it would not be very cost effective to take general classes here. Make sure the credits transfer though!
Academic Rigor Many of the things you will learn are concepts for which to apply to your professional life. After
Dorm Life There are many dorms, and many tiers of pricing for housing. The security at the dorms is pretty strict as you have to check in every time you come to the entrance. Elevators are essential in some of the downtown dorms which are up to 7 floors.
Food and Dining There are a number of places for on campus students to eat, all staffed by Johnson & Wales world renowned culinary students. They also have a set number of swipes redeemable at Starbucks and another place to eat called Weybossett Cafe.
What to do for fun Being in the heart of providence gives students literally limitless things to do. Johnson & Wales students are a 2 minute walk from the bus station where they can go anywhere in RI. Not to mention the number of nearby parks for nice days and clubs for an exciting nightlife.
Bang for the buck Johnson & Wales is good for giving its students experience in the fields they choose, which often leads to jobs. However, the school is really expensive as it is private. Hence why I am trying to get any scholarship I can.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a Wahoo Weekend at the end of the year every year. Besides a large scale concert that is always put on, there is also a huge carnival that always brings in a majority of the student body.
Great for these types of students Students who want to learn information that they will actually use instead of pages of useless formulas will fit well at Johnson & Wales
Clubs and Activities There are so many professional and recreational clubs and activities that its hard to choose just one. I am an Executive Board member of UIB: Campus Events and the Special Events Society, as well as the founder of the new Musician's Network. Go to student activities night!
Greek Life The Greek Life at Johnson & Wales is pretty weak. There are plenty of Fraternities and Sororities, however they all have off campus houses and they are not set in stone houses either. They give back to the community somewhat, but no more than the average student at JWU.
Campus Safety There are always campus security cars roaming around campus and Providence Police often patrol the downtown area. There are rarely incidents with students, however it is a city, so it is important to be careful.

Tips for prospective students Apply here if you want to go into Culinary arts (also Baking and Pastry) or Hospitality, any other major here is a waste of time. If you are going to Baking apply really early like September.
Academic Rigor Culinary labs are very long but you learn a lot about back and front of the house. Make sure you go to class.
Dorm Life You meet a lot of people and the RA's are great. Live in McNulty or Snowden
Food and Dining Great variety and in Providence there are some great restaurants.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Johnson & Wales is a good school. If you go for culinary arts I believe it is the best school to go to, but then again i am probably biased. You learn alot. You are in the class room for six hour getting hands on experience and you are learning from professionals who came from the field. Instructors know what they are talking about. Just be prepared for the long hours (if you consider six hours four days a week long) and the work that comes with it. Also there is a dress policy. Culinary students must wear their culinary uniforms and everyone else must wear professional wear. So if you plan on going here get your wardrobe ready because there are no jean in the building.
Tips for prospective students good try
Dorm Life well i hear that it is ah four bed room with your own bathrooms
Food and Dining its ok so far..... i had book telling me all about it and internet review

Class sizes are small which creates a less-stressful and more personalized learning experience.
Residential Life has many fun activities to meet people and utilizes social media so that students can provide their insights and questions.Tips for prospective students Do not think that Johnson and Wales is a lower quality school. The teachers have a lot of knowledge to offer and many of the students that have been here graduate with job offers. Internship opportunities are always available and for most majors, are required. You are guaranteed to gain experience at this school.
Academic Rigor You definitely are challenged here and classes can be proven difficult. However, with hard work you are sure to get the grade you deserve. The faculty is open to any questions and they all have office hours to meet with them. Also, we have free tutoring in just about every subject. Also, we never have Friday or weekend classes.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms is a exhilarating experience. It is one of the best ways to meet friends and have fun. Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Love this University because it caters to it's students as far as the advisers going out of their way to help in anyway they can. We have the best meal plan in the country due to the culinary that run the many choice on-campus restaurants. The Providence campus is built around the city and it's a great place to live and experience; while also allowing friendships with neighboring colleges.
Tips for prospective students Definitey get a dorm on-campus your first 2 years. The Shuttle buses run constantly, which take you everywhere. You don't need a car! Local public transportation is also free with your ID Badge. You won't be complaining about the food at JWU that's for sure... Classes are small, the instructors are awesome and they all have a hands-on attitude and will help in anyway they can, if needed. Being in the middle of a large city is a plus. You'll love JWU!
Academic Rigor Academically, the JWU instructors are very student oriented in that they are not into the testing as much as they are class participation and hands-on projects. We go in tri-mesters, as opposed to the typical 2 semesters, thus we are able to have more of a variety of classes through out the school year. If you go to class, pay attention and participate, you will have a great time at JWU.
Dorm Life Live in a dorm your first couple of years so you can experience it because the dorns at JWU are awesome. I have a 3 bedroom with a full kitchen and a double decker garage. We are about 1/2 mile from campus and utilize the many shuttle buses available to all students. Dorms are clean, my room is very big and they have extras like lots of games rooms, laundry facilities and study rooms. I am a Junior and still in a dorm because I dont want to be worried about renting an apartment and not having access to the shuttles and getting to my classes on time.
Food and Dining Are you kidding, JWU is known for it's Culinary College. Our dining halls and variety of on-campus restaurants are second to none. Most college students lose weight, I have gained weight because the food is so good. Unfortunately, we only get 3 swipes a day so we have to utilize those swipes very wisely....
What to do for fun What isn't there to do?? We live in the middile of this awesome city. Right around the corner from the main buildings is the main street with theatres, pubs, live music, etc. JWU constantly has something going on for the students at the Harbor Side Campus. I play flag football with an actual team that plays against other local colleges. You'll never want for something to have fun doing at JWU!
Bang for the buck I transfered to JWU from a Massachusetts college after changing my major from Sports Mgmnt to Travel and Tourism. I live on Cape Cod and have worked in the resort business for the past 5 years. I figure, why not make that my major since I love the work. JWU has exactly what I need to get me started and get me out there. I also want to travel and am heading to Paris for an internship next month. I can definitely see why graduates of JWU have no problems getting placed after graduation. I feel very comfortable here and fit right in. That helps with getting up in the morning and starting each day...
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Love Rush week. I pledged a fraternity but left because, unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected but it is fun to see what go on during Rush week. They also have great mentoring programs. Currently I am working at a travel agency in Newport, RI and, before that worked at T F Green Airport doing mentoring and internships. I love the tri-mesters, which is unusual. We get to pick a large variety of courses and the year goes by very fast.
Great for these types of students I'd compare JWU to a high end techinal university. I am not a good test taker and this University is perfect for those type of students. The school is geared more to a hands-on, participation type of structure. You do have to go to class and do have to participate in class project so that is not an option.
Clubs and Activities JWU has a very large variety of clubs, Greek Life, athletics and more. There is always a variety of things going on that will appeal to everyone at the school.
Greek Life Greek Life is big. I did try to pledge and almost made to Rush week but wound up leaving the Frat due to some problems with they way the frat was treating it's pledges. But most of the frats and sororities are great. And there is a large variety of fraternities and sororities.
Campus Safety Security is great. You learn that right from the Orientation before you move in. They are always there if you need them nomatter where you are or what the circumstances. They watch out for the student body and don't go over-board with the police type attitude.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Johnson & Wales University is a great school if you are pursuing a degree in Baking & Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, or Nutrition. I have had a great experience at both the Miami and Providence campus'. The campus in Providence is large and the city is beautiful, the professors are very helpful.
Tips for prospective students Do your research, make sure that you choose the right major for yourself. Work hard and find as many scholarships as you can.
Academic Rigor The academics here are not too difficult but the labs for culinary and baking can be very demanding, keep this in mind when applying.
Dorm Life The Providence campus has many different dorms to choose from and there is definitely something for everyone! There are dorms specifically for Freshman and those are great for meeting new people!
Food and Dining There are many different dining halls on campus and they serve a variety of different foods. The food is pretty average.
What to do for fun There are plenty of things to do in the city! Providence contains several colleges and universities and is very much a college town. Theyer Street is a great place to hang out if you want to get away from campus because of its shops, restaurants, and people. The mall is very close and most places are within walking distance from our campus.
Bang for the buck This school is very expensive but you should keep in mind that it is one of the top rated culinary schools in the country and is very well known. If you work hard and put in an effort, you will get a lot out of this school.
Campus Safety Safety and Security on campus is great, the officers are always paroling and they respond very quickly.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences As a Freshman at Johnson and Wales University I do not have much to complain. It has been a great experience so far and I hope it continues to be. As a major in criminal justice I have met many other criminal justice majors and have really gotten to know them.
Tips for prospective students If you are thinking of coming to JWU you will having an amazing time. Everyone is very friendly, the city is really nice and there is a lot to do.
Academic Rigor Academically the school is good, there are a lot of different majors which makes the school better, because if you decide on switching your major there are many others to choose from.
Dorm Life Dorm life has been great. I have an awesome room mate and wouldn't want a new one. Living in a dorm is like living in a house except the fact its just one room, but you treat it as your home. I recommend for the first two years of college to get settled in a dorm room because that is how you meet new people.
Food and Dining There are so many dining halls you always have a choice where to go. The only part that could be annoying is on weekend they have different opening and closing hours which could be a problem but other than that there is a lot of different variety of food to pick from and places to eat.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i love attending jwu, i have learned so much from my professors because they really worked in the industry for which they teach now. most importantly, the professors still keep in touch with business professionals, and they can put you in contact with employers even before you graduate. i also love the downtown campus, being in the middle of the city is ideal for me!
Tips for prospective students be sure to look for all the financial aid you can get! it's expensive, but worth it to go here!
Academic Rigor they classes that interest me are easy because i am passionate about my majors (i double-majored, and since i did it freshman year, i can still graduate with my class!).
Dorm Life very expensive, but i like being on campus, for the safety and because i like to be around other students.
Food and Dining for a culinary school, we definitely need to improve our on-campus food selection, both in variety and quality.
What to do for fun i love going o boston, my friends and i go almost every chance we get! but being in the city of providence can be fun too...sometimes it gets boring.
Bang for the buck i love the education i'm getting here, sometimes it is pretty easy, however, i took every change i could to do internships and work with professors outside of class, i want them to help me get a job before i graduate!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus nothing really, the campus doesn't have any awesome traditions or locations on campus, except starbucks...
Great for these types of students those who don't want to be unemployed after graduation!
Clubs and Activities it's kind of all about greek life, but if you don't want to party all time, you won't fit in there very well.
Greek Life too much partying and hazing for my taste.
Campus Safety the safety and security office is really responsive to students, and the late-night transportation is great if you get stuck somewhere. even though we're in the middle of the city, they go above and beyond to keep students safe.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i feel johnson & wales university is excellent in all culinary art majors. johnson & wales univerisity has helped me develop my independence and decrease my parent dependency. i have learned so much more about culinary arts within the little time i have been attending johnson & wales university. johnson & wales university will certainly strengthen/toughen any weaknesses or shortcomings you may have.
Tips for prospective students my tips for prospective students are: be sure of any major you choose to be your future career interest. always ask questions about anything you don't understand or aren't sure of. don't be afraid to step away from your family to better yourself and education (your family will always be there for you any way they can). try to stay focused on your goal/reasoning for being in college. never forget the sacrifices someone has made for you to get where you are. your accomplishments will greatly reward all those who have made sacrifices for you to be in college. never follow the in-crowd; unfortunately, it often turns out unpleasant. follow your own heart. try not to get wrapped in too serious of a relationship, as that could possibly break your focus (you have years to look forward to a relationship after college). always check your school e-mails for notices and try to have some sort of cell phone (some colleges aren't allowing landlines any longer). stay positive, keep in touch with your family and good friends. staying in touch with family and good friends, helps to keep you from becoming too homesick. try to find good campus friends or buddies that you may be able to relate with and possibly help you out if you ever needed any help.
What to do for fun what i do for fun sometimes is, take the university bus to the malls or other campuses to visit my other friends or i'm on the computer talking to good friends and family. my roommates and i also play harmless jokes on each other, go to lunch together or watch a little tv.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus unusual traditions depends on you. i'll put it this way, whatever you were doing at home positive, you should continue to do away from home. whatever you did negative at home, you should leave it at home. if you had a positive religion when you were home, you should stay with that religion no matter where you are. i won't advise going anywhere alone if you're not familiar with your environment. just be you and keep your common sence.
Great for these types of students jwu is great for culinary art students.
Greek Life greek life is fun. it's what you make of it.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences johnson and wales has an amazing campus right in the city of providence. while not in the comforting setting of the classroom, there are plenty of fun and exciting things to do during the day and night.
Tips for prospective students if you are looking to go to johnson and wales in the future i would be sure to know what major you are interested in, and shadow the school in that preferred major.
Academic Rigor the classes are not too difficult but not too easy. the professors give you enough freedom to feel like you are in college and on your own but at the same time give enough structure and support to succeed!
Dorm Life i absolutely love living in the residential halls. they always have activities going on for everyone to participate in throughout the week and on the weekends. the ra's are so friendly and are more than helpful with any situation you are in.
Food and Dining for the majority of the school being culinary the food is not the best. coming to a primarily culinary school i was expecting beyond amazing food and that is not what we get. some of the meals are delicious, but i would say more than half of the meals could be much better.
What to do for fun when i am around campus, there is always something to do. when the weather is nice enough to be outside, there are always people outside playing sports. and if you like sports and school spirit there is always the chance to go to a school basketball game.
Bang for the buck tuition is pretty high at johnson and wales but for the campus being in the city the cleanliness and security is always on its a game. the residential halls are always kept nice and fresh.
Great for these types of students if you do not do well in lecture classes then this school is for you. the classes are the perfect size, not too big and not too small.
Clubs and Activities there are a numerous amount of clubs and activities to join here at johnson and wales and most of them help you to further your education and help you in your future plans with your career.
Greek Life i am not apart of greek life but it is something i would love to be apart of. the girls and guys in the sororities and fraternities are always having the best time around campus.
Campus Safety campus safety knows how to take care of the campus. they are always just a call away and there for you when you need them.
