    Am learning a lot

There are large lectures and small group classes so everyone can learn in an environment right for them. The professors are smart and well educated. Lots of them take them time, if you come see them, to personally help you when you need it.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus. It is gorgeous year-round and there are so many activities, groups, organizations you can get involved in here. No matter your interests, you are sure to find something fun to do around campus and find a group that's right for you. The people here are amazing, friendly, helpful, and tons of fun.

    Tips for prospective students

If you've never visited the campus before, before school starts, take the time to walk around campus, find out where buildings are, find your classrooms, the union, the library, etc. so you won't get lost on your way to class. Don't go home every weekend- it will help the transition go smoother. Make an effort to get out there and meet people. Talk with your adviser if you have any questions/concerns about your schedule, life on campus, etc. Read the Collegian and the Fourum everyday!

Great for these types of students

-likes to meet lots of people
    -wants to get involved
    -can learn in big classes
    -has great school spirit
    -doesn't mind a large campus
    -wants to have fun!

Lots of very intelligent professors and many to choose from. Very good learning environment.

    Am enjoying being here

There is something for everyone. Whether you want a quiet coffee shop, a good party, or lots of student activities, Manhattan has it. I've lived here for my whole life (20 years) and i don't want to leave. Great community!

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is bad anywhere you go. But the constant raise of tuition gets annoying. They are talking about starting a plan where you pay the tuition you started with as a freshman the entire time you're in college even if the tuition goes up.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your research on where you want to live. Lots of students get into the Greek life and end up regretting it. It isn't as good as they tell you (from a first hand experience). Look into dorm opportunties if you want to meet new people and stay away from the greek life. It is not good for your academics (which is what your going to college for). There is plenty of partying elsewhere trust me :).

    Am learning a lot

I am learning so much. Some classes are boring but that is to be expected especially for the gen eds but once I started taking classes for my major I realized how much I enjoyed going to class and learning new things that sometimes you rattle off to your friends later.

    Am enjoying being here

I am getting ready to start my sophomore year here at k-state and I have enjoyed every minute. There are several things to do around campus to get involved. I love playing intramural sports and there are several club sports if you want a more competitive atmosphere. Volunteer opportunities are endless and doing them with friends makes it a great time and you also meet new people along the way.

    Bang for the buck

Paying tuition is never fun but compared to other universities around the country k-state is pretty reasonably priced and the experience and people you meet are worth every penny.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Meeting new people is part of the college experience and it also helps to make connections for a future job down the road.
Also, stay in the Dorms at least one year. Everyone there is usually new and wanting to make friends. The Dorms also have several activities to do.

Great for these types of students

    Friendly
    Wants to get involved
    Athletes
K-state has a well rounded university that just about everyone can find something they are passionate about.

Kansas State is very similar to other State colleges when it comes to curriculum. The amount of knowledge that an individual can gain depends on the courses taken. Generally, prerequisite classes are easier and seem more like review sessions than new courses; however, as you begin taking classes that pertain to your designated major, you'll find that the information obtained is more relevant and useful overall.

    Am enjoying being here

The city of Manhattan itself is somewhat limited in student entertainment, but K-State has a wide variety of clubs, intramurals, sports, and activities that students can become involved in both for social and academic purposes. The college is set up to allow students to meet and get to know other students with similar interests and majors. The experience is what you make of it.

    Bang for the buck

All state schools are more expensive than community and junior colleges, but they can also be better in terms of course value. Often, you'll find that you are paying more because this allows for a better, more solid education and the true college experience. In terms of affordability, K-State is somewhere in the middle.

    Tips for prospective students

Before deciding to attend K-State, take the time to visit the campus and get to know the area. Manhattan is an agricultural based town and is very different from areas like Kansas City and Wichita. Though students come from various locations around the world to attend K-State, the population is composed generally of students from smaller, rural towns and is not for everyone. Also, students should be sure to apply for any scholarships and financial aid that might be available to them. If you do not have to worry about paying for college while in attendance, the experience will be significantly less stressful.

Great for these types of students

Kansas State is a wonderful school for prospective veternary, engineering, and agricultural students, and also those who are more comfortable in a smaller town environment.

Since it is a large campus it offers a wide variety of classes: small classroom settings, large lecture halls, evening courses, online classes, as well as a wide range of subjects and topics. Tutoring is very available and also extremely beneficial.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful, the library is a great place to study, and the union offers a good place to relax, eat, and hang out with friends. Not only does the campus offer a great deal to the student, but nearby Aggieville caters primarily to the students of K-State. It offers fantastic places to eat, shop, and hang out. It's wonderful having a campus in such a close-knit community. Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel comfortable and at home.

    Bang for the buck

This campus offers a great variety of courses and the professors are all exceptional educators. There are many social events, sporting events, and clubs for students to join in, meet people, and have a good time between classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Even though a parking pass may be somewhat expensive, if you live farther from campus it may be worth purchasing it. If living in the dorms are not to your liking, there are many affordable apartments and subleasers within walking distance to campus.

Great for these types of students

    - Friendly
    - Athletic (or spectator)
    - Open to community

The professors here are great and really know in-depth about the subject they are teaching. Most of the classes are very informative and the environment is very positive, especially if you have a problem that arises, it is solved almost right away. The advising system here is also great, and it gives you the opportunity to always have someone to go to for a problem if they need it.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful, especially when the seasons change, and the Residence Halls are a great home-away-from-home. The professors are very willing to help no matter what the problem is. There is also a very high amount of school spirit that makes everyone feel welcomed. All in all a very enjoyable campus.

    Bang for the buck

For me the out-of-state tuition is a little high; nearly double that of the in-state, however the professors do know their subjects and the food you get at the dining centers not only taste good but are also good for you, versus other food options that students have. However I am very satisfied with what I am paying for.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend living in a Residence Hall for at least your first year because there are plenty of resources that are offered in them that you cannot get elsewhere. Also make use of the services that are on campus; they will help you if you need it. Keep a good relationship with your advisor, not only so that they can help you in your college experience, but also because they may write your letter of recommendation when you apply to Graduate school. And lastly get involved with campus activities. The activities you did in high school will only stay on your resume until after you become a sophomore so do as much as you are able to on campus; not only will it help boost your resume but it is also a great way to meet people and get involved with the campus community.

Great for these types of students

Great for someone who enjoys crazy weather, both large and small classes, someone who is interested in a Veterinary career, and someone who doesn't mind being away from the city.

I am definitely learning a lot about myself and my major through my classes at K-State. I can't speak for all the different departments but the Apparel and Textiles program has professors who really know their stuff and I love how they are extremely sustanability-focused.

    Am enjoying being here

I did not want to attend a large school or a school in Kansas so I'm really not sure why I ended up choosing K-State. It hasn't really been anything that I wanted in a college experience, but then again the experience is different for everyone and most people that choose K-State really do love it.

    Bang for the buck

Honestly I don't know how much other schools in Kansas cost because I didn't look around, but for in-state students I assume K-State's costs are pretty average. The dorms are dorms, the classes are nothing exceptional, but it is a good school and you will get a good education from here.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't worry right away about what you're going to major in. Have an idea of what you would like to do and maybe take an introductory class in that subject but don't get completely stuck on that major unless its been your dream since you were 5 because your values, passions, and interests will probably change a little in college.

Get involved! There are so many clubs and activities to become involved in and even though it's a big school you can see a ton of people you know by just walking to class if you join a few clubs.

Riding a bike to class will get you there faster, but in order to avoid hitting a million pedestrians stay on the larger sidewalks and leave 5 minutes earlier. And be very, very aware of cars around you.

If you are going to go to formal recruitment for the sororities make sure to get references from alumni of all the houses you can because sometimes it really factors in to what you end up with. And don't bother rushing if your GPA is extremely low.

Great for these types of students

Anyone interested in anything agriculture related. Anyone interested in going to a school that is a little more environmentally-conscious. Anyone looking for a slightly cheaper alternative to KU. Really though, there are all types of people at K-State and you don't only need to be an ag major to come here.

The academics are wonderful! So far I have learned more in one semester than I did during one year at my high school! The science, english, and math departments offer in depth tutoring and a caring and personal atmosphere. Some of the lecture class sizes are large but for the most part classes are limited to 30 students per teacher. So this small atmosphere definitely helps with my learning and one on one time with my teachers.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it in Manhattan, KS! The people are so friendly and administrators genuinely care for your success in achieving your goals. Living in the residence halls got me great friends within the first three hours since the RAs' and MAs' are so helpful at bringing everyone together and mediating any conflicts.

    Bang for the buck

I would definitely chose K-state over any other colleges because they give me the most scholarship money and the most opportunities for work to help assist me through my college experience. Considering the academics and atmosphere here at K-state are so awesome I think it's definitely worth the money!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't procrastinate and stay on top of deadlines! Get your scholarship application in and your general application in quickly and don't forget to do your fafsa!

Great for these types of students

    Outgoing, humble, friendly, academically focused

    Am learning a lot

I'am definitely learning a lot as a first year student here. I'm just a freshman so my classes are not to challenging yet, but you still have to have a more sophisticated comprehension of material learnt then in high school.

    Am enjoying being here

The people here are very nice and helpful, everybody gets along and what makes it even better the school is very diverse. The environment here is very warm and vibrant, and you start developing a sense of home here after a while. There are activities and all kinds of clubs to join for everybody of all races.

    Bang for the buck

I feel you get the most out of your money here as far as education goes, but the housing contract is quite expensive compared to living in an apartment.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you study hard and comprehend the material, this is not high school I repeat, THIS IS NOTHING LIKE HIGH SCHOOL! You will need to study and pull those all nighters so suck it up. when you get here know what your getting into and ask yourself how bad you want it and how hard do you need to work to obtain it, so set goals and achieve them.

Great for these types of students

Great for all kinds of students especially those seeking the full experience of college life.

    Am learning a lot

The classes here are great and highly informative. Some of them are a little hard to get into, but if you persevere there is no holding you back! There is also a wonderful tutoring program for every class.

    Am enjoying being here

The environment of Kansas State University feels like you are part of one big family. Everyone is friendly and willing to help you out. All the Students and Staff are happy to be there and happy to help a fellow Wildcat!

    Bang for the buck

Sure, the out of state tuition is a little expensive, but the benefits of what tuition pays for is great. Not only do you get the classes you signed up for, you get free use of gyms, internet, medical attention, and more!

    Tips for prospective students

Depending on your high school experience, you may not know quite what to expect when you come to college. My tip is to be willing to talk to your professors and your adviser whenever you can, even if its to drop by and say hello. Don't be scared to ask for help on an assignment either. More than likely there are other students with that same question. The more students that ask that question, the more the professor will cover the material

Great for these types of students

This school is great for all types of students. What you really need to watch out for is overcoming the 'senioritis' of high school. You really need to step up your game in college.

The professors here go above and beyond to try to help their students learn, and they are generally pretty good about being easy to contact. The student webmail allows for you to look up the email address of any teachers that you might have prior to the semester starting, so I'd recommend emailing them if you have any questions or concerns about a specific class. KSU offers a wide variety of classes over multiple subjects, so if you've been wanting to learn a new language, try mixed martial arts, or learn to read sheet music I'd recommend giving it a shot.

    Am enjoying being here

I like the town of Manhattan, and I love being a student at KSU. Aggieville is a short walk from campus and offers a variety of restaurants and shops when you want to take a break from the food at the dining halls, and there tends to be a lot of activities to get involved in both during the week and on the weekends. Prior to going to college I was intimidated by the amount of students that enroll every semester, but after attending KSU, I fully understand why. While you will occasionally get a huge lecture, most classes are kept fairly small (20 to 35 students), and it will rarely feel like you're drowning in a sea of people, most likely because of all of the different time slots for students. It is even possible to arrange your class schedule where you don't have to wake up till eleven for class if you're as much of a night owl as I am. There are multiple student traditions that take place every year that are a lot of fun, everything from a rave in Hale library to football rallies.

    Bang for the buck

College is unfortunately expensive, and while, K-State is less expensive than most, things can still be a little pricey. For in-state students, tuition is less expensive than most colleges in Kansas (roughly $7,000 a semester), but out-of-state students pay quite a bit every semester to come to school here. I would recommend buying textbooks online through amazon or half price books, simply because Varney's (the student bookstore) charges anywhere from $40 to $180 for a textbook and then only pays you maybe 30% of the cost if you choose to sell the textbooks back at the end of the semester.

    Tips for prospective students

Scholarships are available for pretty much every activity that you're willing to get involved in (including Physics club), but you have to make sure to specifically mention the groups that you're involved in when you meet with your financial aid advisor. Make sure to pay the dorm down-payment, which is either $400 or $500 and is due around the same time that you fill out the housing contract, as early as you can. Waiting until May (when you're planning on moving into dorms in August) can result in you being placed in temporary housing, which means you are stuck wherever housing is available and then you'll receive an email anywhere from three days to four months after moving telling you that you have two days to pack and move everything to another room. Freshman year is generally the best time to take the off-the-wall classes, because once you get into your major specific classes, depending on your field of study, you could run into a bit of a time crunch. Should you have any difficulty with learning material for a specific class, K-State offers free tutoring to students throughout the day at the dining centers. More information can be found online or at the entrances to the dining halls. It is possible to learn a ton, take demanding classes, have a strong GPA, and still have a social life, you just have to be willing to put in the effort and not be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Great for these types of students

KSU provides a great learning environment for pretty much every type of student. There's everything from a History of Rock and Roll class to a rigorous Content and Rhetoric class for those who enjoy dissecting literature. Those who are interested in broadening their horizons should definitely look into at Kansas State. It is a college in a medium-sized town in the middle of Kansas, but it's a lot less country-bumpkin than most people assume. The engineering, math, architecture, and science programs are ranked very highly, as are the agriculture, education, and psychology programs.

It's been over 2 1/2 years now since coming to K-state, and I can easily notice the growth of knowledge attained. As a member of CAPD (College of Architecture, Planning, and Design) I can look back at my projects from the beginning and see the progression in quality, detail, and creativity. I absolutely feel like I am getting an education that is preparing me for my future career as an architect.

    Am enjoying being here

Kansas State has one of the most beautiful campuses around the mid-west. The campus is compact so it's easy to get around town, and friends are always close by. Sporting events are a blast! The athletics here are a great way to take a break and have fun with friends. Go Cats!

    Bang for the buck

Kansas State University is very reasonable cost wise, for a public university. There are many ways to receive scholarship money through the university.
Being from Saint Louis and attending for architecture, I received the Missouri Student Exchange Waver, which allows me to pay in-state rather than out-of-state tuition (thousands of dollars in saving).

    Tips for prospective students

Keep working hard in school, but also focus on extra-curricular activities. They can be a lot of fun, and colleges like to see well rounded students.

Great for these types of students

If interested in architecture, I would highly suggest you take a tour and get more information about the program at K-state.

    Am learning a lot

Throughout my fourteen credit hours at Kansas State University my first semester I learned so much. Not only did I learn a lot of helpful information in the classroom like different kinds of rocks and minerals, but I learned how to be a better student. It's different living away from your parents and not always having them there to tell you to do your homework or study for that test. I had to tell myself when to do that, even when I didn't want to.

    Am enjoying being here

Kansas State isn't very far from my hometown, about 1.5 hours, so I knew when I moved in that if I ever had any problems I could just get in my car and drive 90 miles home. As a first semester college student I went home four times; two for family events, once just for fun and a week for Thanksgiving break. I guess you could say I really enjoy the living community in Manhattan, KS. There is always something to do and I hardly ever get bored.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is expensive! Enough said, but the price I pay to learn what I'm learning also allows for better opportunities the university can use to expand. Tuition is expensive wherever you go. Just make sure you get your money's worth!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for home town scholarships! Don't wait until the week before scholarships are due, start applying now even if your just a 16 year old junior. Also, apply to all the schools you are interested in. Yes, the application costs add up, but the sooner you apply to a school, the sooner you can apply for scholarships.

I also suggest living in the dorms. It doesn't sound awesome, but I have met so many people that I love spending my time with. If you want to be involved with Greek life, make sure you like the house. Don't just join to be Greek. It isn't that important, you just have a few more opportunities to get involved in different ways on campus.

Great for these types of students

Kansas State University is great for anyone. My graduating class was 43, my entire high school had less people, at 200, than my biggest class in college. It really is for anyone. It's kind of like high school where you meet people who are like you, and that's who you hang out with.

Kansas State is good for people who are interactive, enthusiastic, and willing to learn!

The professors are absolutely amazing. Foreign teachers are not an issue at Kansas State as they are at other universities. The class sizes can be quite large, but Kansas State provides Recitation courses which are a group of 20-30 students in a classroom where they can answer questions and get one on one help. All professors have office hours, they always respond to your emails, they always answer your questions, and they always give you the time you need in order to understand something. There really is no barrier between you and your professors at Kansas State.

    Am enjoying being here

The student life at Kansas State is incredible. It's a big university, but with a small town feel. A lot of the students are from the country which makes us such a close knit community because that is what everyone is used to. Walking around Manhattan, the entire community from students, professors, businesses, and citizens enjoy showing their KSU pride and wearing purple! Walking around campus, everyone is so nice and they don't hesitate to help you find your way if you are lost or share some food at a football game.

    Bang for the buck

Kansas State draws a lot of students from out of state because of the affordable tuition. Compared to several other universities, K-State offers a great education at a comparable price. Even if the tuition is out of budget, the Finance Department at KSU works with their students directly in getting them any help they can with Scholarships or Financial Aid. Kansas State has several scholarships that any student can apply for online that can give anyone a really great deal on a terrific university education.

    Tips for prospective students

Plan a day to visit K-State. There is so much to do on and off campus that you'll never have time to take a break. Make an appointment with an advisor in a field you might be interested in and they will walk with you around that department's building, talk about a career path, describe some of the courses available, and what the professors in that area are currently working on. The campus is beautiful and no area is off limits for exploring. The buildings are made from Kansas Limestone and they couldn't be any prettier. Any department at Kansas State will be willing to help you with any questions you may have on a personal level. They don't show you any videos or shove pamphlets in your face - they sit with you one on one and have a conversation with you and anything you want to talk about with them.

Great for these types of students

Kansas State is great for students that are looking for college that is personal and full of spirit. The Kansas State Family reaches everyone from the athletes to the foreign exchange students. Even though Kansas State is affordable, it still requires a lot of work to earn your degree. Classes can be difficult so it is important that students are willing to work hard. For those students that want to get involved, Kansas State is as good as it gets. The student life is unbelievable with philanthropy events happening almost every week, affordable concerts with incredible artists, student groups for every hobby or interest, and an incredible sense of tradition and family on campus even in the summer.

Classes are large, but the professors make every effort to get to know you and an individual. They relate the classes to relevant things in life, helping students to understand. They are also willing to help anyone who is having difficulty. Sitting towards the front makes the class not seem as large and helps me to pay more attention.

    Am enjoying being here

Manhattan is a town centered around the college and its students. There are plenty of things to do and to keep busy with. It is a great place to get involved in volunteer opportunities as well.

    Bang for the buck

You can definitely find plenty of entertainment for a fairly cheep price. There are also many places to shop, that have nice things at a decent price.

    Tips for prospective students

Visiting the campus is the best thing you can do to find out about Kansas State. There is a home feeling you find when walking about, that you can only discover going there.

In-state tuition looks good for me! My only thing is that most of the scholarships I've seen are freshman year only, and I wish there was more for the rest of the years.

    Tips for prospective students

Looks good to me! Gonna apply soon!

Last semester I took only 13 hours, and this semester I bumped it up to 16. I felt like I was really learning and understanding so much that I could add on a few more hours. Even though the class sizes seem huge, you can always find a smaller class to enroll in. The smaller class atmosphere really helped my grades and learning, and the professors are even more willing to help if they know you on a personal level.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at KSU! The year-round gorgeous campus, the academics, the sports, my new friends; just the general experience is awesome! It is a place with a small town feel but has the 'city life' experience also. Coming from a small town, I thought it would be a big shock, but it is definitely a great transition to the 'real world'.

    Bang for the buck

You will be paying more at a university rather than a junior college or community college, but it is definitely worth your money. You will receive better credentials and benefits coming out of college at a place like this.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with things! If you see something written in chalk on the sidewalk, don't just walk right over it, check it out! Do intramurals, join clubs, hang out with different people; just don't do the same boring old thing everyday because you will regret the times you missed out on later!

Great for these types of students

In general, this is a great place for any type of student but there is definitely a focus here on Agriculture, Engineering, Architecture and Business. I would recommend checking out the majors online and seeing what best suites you.

Before I came to K-state I really didn't have great organization skills, but now I'm very organized. This college has taught me a lot in different areas. THANKS K-STATE!!!!!

I have enjoyed my time here at K-stare. This campus has many opportunities for you to get involved with other students and the community.

Although it's a little expensive at K-state, the experience, knowledge, and friends I've gained has made it worth the effort.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Save up for college. It's expensive, but worth the money.
    2. Pick a college that agrees with you.
    3. Have fun when you go to college, but stay on top of your studies.

    Am learning a lot

All of my teachers really know their stiff. I try to ask hard questions like I did in high school and they never freak out about it. If they don't know the answer, then they say I'll get back to you on this date and follow through. It's great.

    Am enjoying being here

When I came back to K-State after Winter Break, I felt like I was coming home. The people here are so friendly and welcoming. At least that has been my experience in the dorms. The other day, a friend and I went to Putnam (another dorm) to tour it and we ended up staying there for 4 hours! We asked some girls if we could see their rooms and when they agreed we just ended up talking and exchanging numbers. If you out yourself out there even just a little bit, I have found that it is easy to meet people and make friends.

    Bang for the buck

My professors are awesome and try to make themselves as available as possible for questions or concerns. K-State also has an amazing number of resources to use (the majority of which are free). and you really can't put a price on the family atmosphere...

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering K-State, I would suggest you try and visit campus sometime. The friendliness of the students you'll encounter on your visit doesn't wane when you get here (until finals, but just wait until you experience finals...) If you are committed to coming, then I would suggest putting yourself out there to make friends. I'm not saying you need to knock on random people's doors or anything but keep your door open and say hi to people in the halls. Get involved at least a little bit. For example, participate in some of the residence hall games or activities. you meet so many people that way. I would also go to floor dinners if you don't already know a lot of people at K-State. The main thing to be really really happy and at home at K-State is to get a community going for yourself. I'm not Greek (though I strongly considered it) but the majority of the girls are super sweet. If you like to party, feel free, but if you hear bad things about a certain frat...avoid it. every school has bad eggs.

Great for these types of students

All types. Anyone can find community at K-State :)

All of the courses, from chemistry 210 to leadership 212, all have things to be gained from inside and outside the classroom. While the content may be harder than in high school, there are many more resources to go to for free to obtain extra help: free tutors, review sessions right before tests, and, of course, office hours to go and speak to your professors one on one. Most are very helpful and flexible with their schedules to give you the help you are needing. Email them any time and they'll get back to you within that same day. Overall, quite a helpful environment to learn.

    Am enjoying being here

From dorm floor dinners to Harry Potter movie marathons to amazing lectures from outside speakers to fantastic shows put on by the theater department, this is one campus that is never out of things to entertain you. The first day I came here, I was greeted so many times by smiles and polite people holding doors for me. You can stay in your room and shut the door for quiet study time or just leave it open on a weeknight for people to drop in and introduce themselves. That's how I've gotten to know many of my current good friends. After just a month of being here it turns from a school to a home away from home.

    Bang for the buck

There are many things to do on campus that are free (such as, going to the rec to work out with friends, visiting the union to attend a lecture, and going to chill at the library that has multitudes of free resources you can utilize for study or just enjoyment). You can join one or several different clubs either related to your major or just for fun (there's a unicycle club!). K-State really does open you up to so many opportunities that are once in a lifetime and can help you make friendships that may last a lifetime.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus more than once before actually coming here. The campus layout can be a little confusing to navigate (especially for those of us directionally challenged). Within the first week (also known as Welcome Week) there will be many people strategically placed around the campus to help you if you do get lost, though. Also, try to plan your schedule around how your classes are located. If you have one class on one end of the campus and your next one in 10 minutes is on the complete other end, it may be difficult to get there on time (especially in adverse weather conditions).

Great for these types of students

Social butterflies, shy wall flowers (you will be transformed into butterflies soon, though), leaders, followers, book worms, adventurers, night owls, early birds, and people who love to learn and have fun in the process. :)

I am an Agronomy Student at Kansas State University and I am definitly learning a lot about plants and soils, I'm learning about things I didn't even think of before I enrolled like Soil Salinity or C3 v C4 plants.

    Am enjoying being here

I really do enjoy campus life. There are a lot of Student Organizations to get involved in and a lot of new people to meet.

    Bang for the buck

Very good. K-State is definitly the best deal for me since I'm an Agronomy major. It has a very good program for that and to get anything else of similar quality for Agronomy, I'd have to go out of state which would mean out of state tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

Enjoy your time at college, its different from High School. For one, your schedule will be a lot different. You may only have classes in the morning on some days, and afternoon on others. There's a lot less busy work in class, so you aren't in class as much. But you learn so much more. I think I've learned more in my first year of college than I did in all 4 years of High School.

Great for these types of students

Students interested in Agriculture, Engineering, or Science.

K-State has a fun and friendly atmosphere that feels like family. There is always things to get involved with, from campus organizations to leadership roles with groups on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in a organization, it is a great way to make new friends who share similar interests with you. Also, take advantage of the tutoring on campus. Its free for students and can really make a difference in your grade. I would also recommend living in the dorms your freshman year. It is a great college experience and is also a great way to meet new people.

    Academic Rigor

I learned a lot my freshman year. Classes were difficult because I was a pre-health major, but I took advantage of tutoring which helped a lot.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a great way to meet new people at K-State. I would recommend living in them for at least your freshman year. They are also convenient because they are right on campus.

    Food and Dining

The Derby dining center is for students who live in the residence halls. It serves meals everyday a week, except for sunday dinner. The food at Derby dining center is always hot and fresh, and there is a variety of options from hamburgers, to pizza, to italian food and much more.

    What to do for fun

Aggie Ville is a short walk from the dorms. It has shops, coffee stores, food, and other stuff. There are also lots of events held at the union on the weekends. The Union shows recent movies for $1 on the weekends, and there is also a bowling alley which is open in the evenings.

Great for these types of students

    -Friendly people
-Students who want to be involved
-People who want a university that feels like home

    Clubs and Activities

K-State has over 450 student organizations that you can be apart of, so chances are, there is one that will interest you. If there isn't, you can always start a new club!

    Greek Life

Greek life is a great way to get involved on campus, but its not for everybody. If you are even a little interested in greek life, I would recommend looking at the different houses for the sororities and fraternities. Try them out, see what organizations they are involved in. If you are thinking about joining a sorority, try fall recruitment. Its a great way to see what the girls are like. If you don't like it in the end, you aren't obligated to join a house.

    Campus Safety

K-State has a safe walk system that runs from dusk till dawn every night. All you have to do is call the safe walk number and a campus police officer will meet you where you are at and walk you anywhere on campus.

I am overly pleased with my time so far at Kansas State University. Not only does it provide a fantastic education for my major of choice (in fact, it's rated in the top 10 in the country!), but K-State is also known for its friendliness, which is apparent just while walking through campus. I would recommend this college for anyone!

    Academic Rigor

While I am in one of the hardest majors at K-State, I know the college to be a challenging academic learning environment.

    Dorm Life

I lived in the dorms my first year of college and actually miss it! What a great opportunity to meet students your age with similar interests and become life-long friends!

Kansas State is family-oriented, beautiful, and a very tradition-based university. It is a place all students are able to call their home and always feel welcome. KSU students know they are a part of something great when they attend any school event.

    Tips for prospective students

Enjoy every moment of your college career because it goes by faster than you can imagine. Remember to always have fun and try new things, but don't lose focus on your academics and the path you want to take in life. K-State is a great place to find new activities with all of their clubs and extra-curricular groups. Take advantage of these opportunities while you have the chance.

    Academic Rigor

Kansas State has so many different majors available all of which are widely known. Students have a number of degrees available as well as schooling past their 4 years (graduate school, vet school). Kansas State will serve as a wonderful education whether you are an incoming freshmen finding out what you want to do in an open option curriculum or a graduate degree in the major of your choice.

    Dorm Life

I would definitely recommend the residence halls for students coming to K-State, especially for their freshmen year. The relationships that you form while living in the dorms are beneficial in helping you get through your first year successfully and to help you develop into an independent college student. They are monumental whether they last just that one year in the dorms, for your entire college career, or even for the rest of your life, the relationships you form in the dorms are something special that you’ll never forget.

    Food and Dining

Whether you are eating in the resident halls or the student union, there are many opportunities to eat at your favorite restaurants. The resident halls have all you can eat menus with 4 different types of lines: American, Mexican, Italian, and Classics with has a unique food with every meal. The student union has many popular choices such as chick-fil-a, taco bell, and subway

    What to do for fun

There are many extra-curricular activities and clubs available to all students. If K-State does not have the club you want, you are able to start your own! There are many on-campus activities such as bowling and movies, but also off-campus activities in Manhattan. Although Manhattan may seem small, it has everything one needs and more.

    Bang for the buck

Kansas State is can be affordable with its financial aid opportunities. They are willing to help in any way needed. Although it is more expensive being out of state, they help to find ways to make it work. They want their students to stay all four years and are there to help make it happen.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of Kansas State's biggest traditions is the Wabash. It is a song done at athletic events in which students move back and forth and side to side along with the university marching band. It seems silly, but it is one of the things we are most done for and one of the things I will never forget.

Great for these types of students

Kansas State is great for all types of students! We have many out of state students, in state students, and international students attending the university. It is a great place for students of all kinds and welcoming to everyone no matter what your background.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities available of all kinds. If you are interested in something, there is sure to be a club involving it. If not, it is easy to start your own.

    Greek Life

Although not involved in greek life myself, Kansas State has an outstanding system. There are many opportunities within greek life as well as many different greek lifes you can join. Everyone can gain something out of being greek.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety at KSU really cares about their students. There are emergency towers located through out campus so that if something were to happen, students have close access to an emergency system to call for help.

Kansas State University offers diversity in the student atmosphere, providing different opportunities for different students. The campus is a large family, with people generally friendly and willing to help (especially the staff, professors as well as students themselves). KSU genuinely wants you, and will work to have you a part of the student body.

    Tips for prospective students

    1) Don't be intimidated at the big school atmosphere. The larger KSU family is broken down into several clubs/groups - holding something for everyone. 2) Sign up for the GPS program (when a new student is paired with a mentor on campus). They are great, very helpful and you get to be active in many fun things. 3) Try new things! You'll never know new hobbies or likes if you don't step out of what you know. So many exciting things! 4) Remember: COLLEGE ISN'T HIGH SCHOOL You can have fun, but don't forget why you are at college, so study hard.

    Academic Rigor

3 or 4 - It does depend on your independent learning abilities and classes.

    Dorm Life

    Food and Dining

It is so great! Very well balanced and many options are at your selection.

    What to do for fun

Outside of the college, you can find shopping, dining out, etc in the town of Manhattan.

Great for these types of students

    Clubs and Activities

    Greek Life

They are very active in the Manhattan/KSU community. (I have not personally be involved though, so I don't know a lot about it.)

Kansas State University is a very tight-knit community, it is the perfect college for any student. I have gone to K-State for only a year and it is the place I call home. While the large campus and number of students may seem daunting, I have found I always see a familiar face walking to and from classes which makes the large campus seem significantly smaller.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to your professors if you encounter any problems or are having difficulty with a subject. Make sure you get involved as it makes the large campus significantly smaller. Live in the residence halls, they are great ways to make friends and stay close to campus.

    Academic Rigor

As a general population, academics are very important. There will always be those students not concerned with their GPA, but as a whole the ones I have encountered are very dedicated to their majors and studious.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a great place to live, especially if you are considering a cluster floor. Cluster floors are a great opportunity to live with people who have the same major you do, and often they share the same interests.

    Food and Dining

The dining service is very good at K-State, I have not missed eating at home too much while at K-State. The hours don't go very late, which is a disappointment if you are like me and get hungry later at night while studying, but all in all the food is very good.

    What to do for fun

I enjoy going to Cold Stone in Aggieville on college night to get ice cream at a discounted price. There is a very nice mall with all the popular stores, as well as the Konza Prairie and the popular Pillsburry Creek. They have also recently built a new discovery center that I have yet to have visited, but plan to soon.

    Bang for the buck

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

K-State has something called the quad which is essentially this little area in the center of K-State that has been the site of many a marriage proposal. While it is off-campus technically, right across from Goodnow (a dorm) there is this little pizza place, Pizza Shuttle, that is fantastic, but the thing that sets this place apart is its cream cheese pizza.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for students pursuing a career in agriculture, engineering, veterinary studies, or architecture. As far as personality, this is a great college for students looking for a homey atmosphere and close-knit community.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many many many clubs here at K-State covering anything from baking to salsa dancing. Clubs are a great way of meeting people who share your same interests. We have a new student union that also hosts activities every week as well as dollar night movies on weekends in the auditorium.

    Greek Life

Greek Life here at K-State is booming, with 12 or more sororities to pick from and I can't even count how many fraternities there are. Greek Life allows you to get involved with so many aspects of K-State life. Each fraternity or sorority has its own house as well as its own unique traditions and philanthropies.

    Campus Safety

I have always felt very safe on campus. There are many ways for you to make sure you don't ever have to walk alone at night on campus. There are always campus police patrolling the roads through campus.

Overall the school atmosphere is very nice. The staff and students that attend the college are helpful and willing to help anyone in need. The students and staff love the school and it is like a family when you attend the college.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on attending Kansas state be ready to become a part of a family that really loves its school and sports. The sports are a major part of the school and they have many rituals and traditions for each and every sports team.

    Academic Rigor

The school is not hard because each professor are very knowledgeable about their field of study and they are so many resources available to help you, if you find yourself struggling with one of your classes.

    Dorm Life

As I have stated before K-state is a family oriented school and when you stay in the dorm everyone who is on your floor you become friends with and sooner or later you are like a little family. The dorms are a pretty nice size and hall shares one bathroom. Overall the dorms are pretty nice and should not be an experience you should pass up.

    Food and Dining

They are a variety of food to eat at K-state, from burgers to home cooked meals. They have a nice size dinning room and they have two dinning halls on campus that are located by the two dorm areas.

Everyday there is something new to do as long as you stay involved on campus you will always have something to keep you busy and have fun with. If you do not come involved they have a little college town called Aggie Ville that is filled of excitement from food places to all kinds of entertainment for college students to enjoy.

    Bang for the buck

If you like a college that is a big university but has a small town feel then you are choosing the right college. Although the University is huge the college lecture classes are also huge the university offers break down classes of your specific lecture class so you can get individual help and understand the class with less people and get more attention.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is crucial to Kansas State University as it offers many ways to keep the students and staff safe. If you decide to study late at the library you can call the hotline a request a officer to walk you to your dorm and if you ever feel threatened or scared for your life there are several call help booths around campus to assist you. Also during the weekends when college students can become out of control they have a program called safe ride where it picks up students who are unable to drive home because of being intoxicated or just from keeping them from walking late at night.

-Get tutoring if you need it, there are many helpful resources here

    Academic Rigor

Depends on your major, but every major is hard in its own way. It's challenging but in a good way! Our classes vary in size from very small to large but you can always ask questions if you need help. We also have a lot of resources around campus and tutoring in math, science, writing, and English. Also, if you ask, you can get more free tutors in other subjects!

    Dorm Life

I absolutely loved my dorm!! I’ve lived in two different ones here at KSU and they were both great. I met two of my best friends at the events there my freshman year and as seniors we’re still friends! We were always having fun programs and activities (think tie-dyeing, raves and dances, barbeques, and snow ball fights in the winter time).

    Food and Dining

I loved eating at our dining centers. They work hard to change up the food and make something everyone likes. Everyday the menu is different but you can always get the crowd favorites like burgers, deli sandwiches, salads, cereal, tacos, and Chinese! We also have the best seasonal dinners and they go all out with a full desert buffet.

    What to do for fun

There is always stuff going on at KSU campus! There are movies playing at the union, bowling, putt-putt golf, and dorm hosted parties and events. Aggieville is also a great place to have a lot of fun. We have some sweet shops down there, really everything from clothes to food to gift ideas.

    Bang for the buck

I loved my Kansas State experience and I think it was well worth what I spent. I feel really prepared with my degree because my teachers really took their professions seriously. Also, if you’re worried about the expense, there are scholarships and financial aid that can help.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Hale Library’s Third Floor Great Room is one of my favorite spots. It looks just like the Great Hall right out of the Harry Potter movies! There are a lot of cool murals in there by a famous artist, David Hicks Overmyer that have to been seen to be believed.

Great for these types of students

-Students who want a caring atmosphere
-People that want to get involved

Kansas State University is very student-oriented and tries to provide the utmost opportunities for its students to succeed. It thrives on the students' energy and encourages students to be extremely active. It is a great school for any agriculture-related field of studies.

    Tips for prospective students

To be prospective here, you definitely need to be involved. Seize your opportunities and make the best of every chance that you have here. These years are extremely important towards your future, so do not grow lazy, but remain strong, despite the difficulties that may arise, and prosper!

    Academic Rigor

It is not the hardest university to gain admittance to, but once privileged with acceptance, it is in your best interest to not get lazy. Laziness will only lead to failure, in which you will be forced to leave the university.

    Dorm Life

My dorm life experience has not been very enjoyable here. I prefer a great amount of quietness, privacy, and independence. So if you are looking for that type of environment, the dorm life is not for you.

    Food and Dining

From what I have been warned about college dining, my experience with the food here could have been much worse. They do offer many options for students looking to benefit and maintain healthy eating habits, however, the dining times and meal plans are not too ideal.

    What to do for fun

Being a very small town, still in the act of growing and finding independence away from the university, there is not much to do for fun here. Many college students rely on late night weekend parties and illegal drinking unfortunately for fun, but the student union does offer movies to watch on weekends. Also, the dorms normally provide different group activities for those interested.

    Bang for the buck

Being an out-of-state student, tuition was extremely hard to deal with. To pursue my dream and to take my necessary courses, along with providing for myself acceptable living conditions, it was quite pricy. If I had the choice, I would not be going out-of-state for college. It is far to expensive.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Radina's Coffee House is great get-together place, and they have a wonderful menu with different foods and numerous coffee, and non-coffee drinks. Also, the recreation complex is very superior in its workout equipment and different classes, rooms, tracks, etc. that it has to offer.

Great for these types of students

K-State is great for students that are wanting to further become more out going and who have a high interest in an agriculture-based occupation.

    Clubs and Activities

There are NUMEROUS clubs and activities to get involved, so take advantage!

    Greek Life

The Greek life here is HUGE. A vast majority of the students are involved in some sort of fraternity or sorority. It is quite expensive, but if you have the adequate funds, it is definitely something to consider. I for one could not afford it, but I wish that I would have had the availability to do so.

    Campus Safety

This is definitely one of the safest campuses. Security is always around, and they provide many different services for students to remain safe at all times, day or night.

First and foremost, K-State has distinguished, award-winning professors who are knowledgeable, approachable and helpful. Not only are students here getting a great value--tuition is among the lowest in the country--they are also getting an education that rivals those of some much pricier private schools. Kansas State University is not just another college, but is a place to call home. The environment that surrounds you when you step on campus is phenomenal and there is no feeling like it in the world. I'm glad I attend school there, and hope that many more people do too.

    Tips for prospective students

College is a great experience. That is if you make the right choices, one professor that I had always said Go to class! and boy was he right. Going to class is the most important thing to do in college, that and not staying up too late. Also, be courteous to your roommate, just because you like one thing, doesn't mean they will.

    Academic Rigor

These classes are tough, but not impossible to do well in. If you want to do well in any of your classes you must do three things: study, sleep, go to class. If you do those three things the classes should be milder for you.

    Dorm Life

Don't call your dorm a dorm. If you call it your home it will make you feel like it's yours and it won't make you as homesick. Don't be afraid to go meet the people in your building, the people that you meet in your dorm are probably the people you will become best friends with.

    Food and Dining

The dining center food isn't bad but, it's nothing like mama's home cooking. So make sure that you learn to try new foods, live life on the edge. And most importantly, don't fret about freshman fifteen the amount of walking that you should do everyday should counteract the amount of food you will intake.

    What to do for fun

There are many things that you can do for fun, you just have to be open for new ideas, and be supportive if people come up with ideas. Don't just turn them down because you've never done them before.

    Bang for the buck

Sure college is expensive, but they make sure you get your money's worth. If your not happy with something, let them know and chances are they'll do their best to fix it. But, the most important thing you'll get from college can't be bought, and that's the experience that you'll gain and the memories that will last you a lifetime.

The quad is a popular location among students at KSU because it's open, the scenery is beautiful and many people walk through there during the day so it's cool to see the diversity that we have at Kansas State.

Great for these types of students

Kansas State has a niche for each type of person. There are so many different classes, clubs, and organizations that it is easy to meet people that you fit in with.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and different extra curricular activities for you to get involved in, it's somewhat difficult to decide which ones to be a part of because they're all so great!

    Greek Life

The Greek life is phenomenal. Not only are you given the option to join a Greek organization, but the recruiting events are fun and inviting to everyone!

    Campus Safety

With many features throughout campus it's easy to feel safe on and around campus. There are many emergency buttons for you if you feel the slightest bit threatened and there are also other amenities such as safety walk, and cat-call.

I absolutely love KSU it is everything that I had hoped. I love the way that my schedule is structured to fit my needs and there are always resources to help if I need it. There is always something going on when I am not busy studying and I never feel that I am bored or wanting to go home.

    Tips for prospective students

Join the greek system! There are so many opportunities and it is a great way to meet people. Everyone that I know who did not originally join has since joined or rushed a house, it is a very exciting experience.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the classes that you take, as a freshman I have not found my classes to be too demanding other than my introduction to biology for premedical students. Making sure to stay on top of my work and know when it is due before hand really helped me. Using a planner and a desktop calendar has really helped me to stay organized between classes, sorority, and events that I have to go home for.

    Dorm Life

I was originally not too stoked about living in an all girls dorm but I have grown to absolutely love it! There are girls from my sorority on my floor and the floor above me and we all meet in the lobby to walk to events together. It has been a great way to meet people that I otherwise would not have met.

    Food and Dining

Derby dining is awesome. I have heard from the older girls in my house that once you have the food that is served in sorority house you will be wishing that you could still go to derby so enjoy it while you can! It is all that you can eat which is nice and I can bring guest when I am with friends working on a project.

    What to do for fun

Make friends with everyone around you! It is not like high school where people have their specific groups that they hang out with, everyone gets along and everyone on campus is very very friendly. There is always something going on between events in the dorms, sorority and fraternity functions, and parties on the weekends.

    Bang for the buck

The discount for living in-state is enormous and helps greatly! The price is very reasonable and the school provides many scholarships as well as many opportunities to work on campus. The most expensive classes will be online classes so if you are looking for affordability I would not choose those classes if at all possible.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The main tradition is homecoming week on campus. Every greek house as well as many clubs and groups makes a float and marches in a parade. There are events all week (choreographed dancing, stomp competition, etc) that are worth points and the group with the most at the end of the week is the winner. This is a very fun way to meet new people and get involved.

Great for these types of students

Any type of student! From shy to outgoing, in-state to international, there is something for every student.

    Clubs and Activities

I cannot stress enough to join the greek system. It opens door for many opportunities that you may not have otherwise even known about.

    Greek Life

    All houses are awesome!

    Campus Safety

Students are prepped on safety from the first day they are at orientations. Guards will walk students from building to building at night if they prefer, there are emergency lights everywhere on campus that have a button to push in any emergency.

Kansas State University has been a great experience. The Professors are usually knowledgeable, the class sizes manageable, facilities typically clean, and overall atmosphere positive and suitable for a learning environment. It is a good University to attend if you wish to get a good education as well as have a positive college experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Be wary of the names of the professors when you enroll in classes, Kansas State University hires graduate students as teachers that don't speak English very well. I had a Calculus teacher who couldn't speak any English fluently and it made the class far more difficult than it had to be.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are eager to teach their subjects, and are clearly passionate about their fields. It makes a world of difference to be taught by someone who enjoys and believes in what they are teaching.

    Dorm Life

I have not lived in the dorms, but speaking with friends who have I get the impression that it is very enjoyable and a great social experience.

    Food and Dining

Coming from a smaller high school that didn't have very many classes or activities available, I was not expecting all the things you can do at K-State! There are so many classes you can take here including weight lifting or even history of rock and roll! If you don't have room the chance to learn new things in these fun electives you can always go to the activities fair and join a club or participate in intramural sports.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyday I am on campus, I fall in love with it again. It is gorgeous in all seasons and the other students really make it awesome. K-State is just big enough that everyday you can meet new people, but not so big that you don't see a familiar face walking to class! I really can't imagine going to school anywhere else.

    Tips for prospective students

My first tip is live in the dorms (at least for your freshman year). When you live in the residence halls, the most simple tip is to sit in your floor's or residence hall's lobby! It is a good place to study away from the distractions in your room and you will instantly meet new people walking by or even there themselves! Also, take advantage of the activities that the dorms and academic departments put on. Some of them might seem dorky but you can meet people with your same interests and set yourself up for success!
