The Professors and Counselors want you to succeed in life; no matter what major or classification they care about your personal academia. It may be hard to believe in such a large university, but finding your niche is key to making the most of your LSU experience

    Am enjoying being here

LSU is so much more than a football party school. Granted, it does have it's great times outside of the classroom, but beyond that it is a beautiful school with 150 years of excellence to prove its an amazing place to attend school. I cannot imagine myself anywhere else because of the amazing friends I've made through the many club and organizational opportunities I've been presented with along with the wonderful friends I know in my classes.

    Bang for the buck

Coming from Louisiana I earned a scholarship through the TOPS program which provides me full tuition coverage. Although it is only for Louisiana High School students, the out of state tuition is comparable to any other state university in the nation.

    Tips for prospective students

I would describe LSU simply as the best beginning to the rest of your life. Prospective students can take one look at LSU’s campus and appreciate is beauty and tradition but underneath the ancient oaks and hallowed halls there runs a spirit that has affected thousands of attendees for nearly 150 years. Academic excellence and unrivaled athletic programs encourage students to be proud of their university. The variety of student organizations helps students feel they have a personal place among a diverse student body. All one has to do is attend a football game and realize how 93 thousand fans become a family that together bleeds purple and gold. LSU is a flagship institution that prides itself in accepting only the best from its students, players, faculty and staff. Every prospective student should truly appreciate what an honor it is to be part of this amazing school and know their potential will be fully realized while walking its grounds.

Great for these types of students

LSU is meant for any type of student! Any prospective student looking to get the full college experience from their university should chose LSU.

Because LSU does have rigorous academics, I would advise, if possible, to take dual-credit courses during high school to help prepare you for the teaching styles, and hard classes that you will have to take here at LSU.

    Bang for the buck

If you are an out-of-state student like me, be sure that you are aware of all the different scholarships that LSU offers. In fact, I got my out-of-state fees waved because my Mom attended an LSU affiliate school. So be aware that there are ways to attend your dream school!

    Tips for prospective students

The best advice I could give a prospective LSU student would be, if you are able to attend a bridge program or simply take classes during the summer before your first fall semester, do so. I had the opportunity to attend a summer bridge program which allowed me to attend two classes, have free room and board, and become familiar with the campus before the fall semester began. Not only do you become familiar with the campus and learn to live on your own, you also learn the way things are done at the school, as well as simply meet people.

Great for these types of students

LSU is probably best for students that don't mind being in a class of 200 or more. You also have to have thick-skin coming to a school of 32,000 people, your teacher probably won't know you exist, and the campus is huge so you must be ready to walk a lot!

LSU is facing financial uncertainty, but the academic core of classes and offerings is kept in tact. Student to faculty ratio is about 21:1, which is great considering the 28,000 students that attend the school. Courses challenge students to learn, and opportunities to engage in service learning and communication intense courses allow students to develop real life skills while learning core curriculum. There are plenty of opportunities to stand out and educate yourself for success, should you choose to take advantage of them.

    Am enjoying being here

LSU has over 375 student organizations, and there is literally something for everyone. One thing that I would definitely recommend is joining a student organization (or two!) It makes the seemingly large campus very small and gives you a close group of peers to count on. The cajun culture is unique, you won't find friendlier people anywhere else. You can go anywhere around campus on a home football game day and be greeted as friends (as long as you're dressed in purple and gold!) LSU is a thriving community filled with culture and diversity, there is no place like it.

    Bang for the buck

I came from Georgia, and through scholarships I attend LSU free of tuition. They are definitely trying to improve competitiveness with other universities across the nation, and for the third year in a row they have ranked in USA Today's top tier of public universities. LSU is a public university that offers private school opportunities; from research to service to experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved, you won't regret it. You'll make so many more friends and probably do yourself some networking for the future in the process. Also I would definitely recommend going to class. Nothing breaks your motivation and focus in schoolwork faster than skipping out on classes. Immerse yourself in LSU and let yourself be filled with pride, and you'll be happier than you could ever imagine at LSU.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to get involved, students who love SEC football, students who want to have a lot of opportunities at a fair cost.

At LSU, many of the professors are actually interested in you learning. After being in a class as small as 20, to being in a class as big as 300, the professors are always encouraging student involvement with questions and working in groups. They are usually very flexible with office hours and there are plenty of tutorial centers and student tutors willing to help. Some people who are scared to ask for help usually have friends in the same classes that are able to help. They always tell us networking is a must!

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being a student at LSU. There are a lot of different people here, there are different clubs and student organizations that fit every personality, and there's usually something to do or somewhere to go on the weekends. Football season is always entertaining! I have never been tailgating before I came here and I usually enjoy it, although its more fun for big games. Athletic events are fun as well because there so much school spirit!

    Bang for the buck

I love the school. Its going through some major budget cuts right now, but the experience is worth it. I know a lot of in-state students who have TOPS. Many out-of-state students just find scholarships and financial aid. When you become an upperclassmen, you'll see that getting a meal plan isn't that important. That's why you make freshman friends.

    Tips for prospective students

Honestly, be yourself and do what makes you happy. Being here, i found a lot of things that I enjoy doing and found people that like me for who I am. And DO NOT become roommates with someone you are friends with, unless you've known them for a long time or lived with them before. I had to learn about that the hard way with one of my roommates because we are no longer friends. Also, if you don't have a car, make sure you make at least 1 friend with one.

Great for these types of students

Its a good school for anybody with any major. LSU has really good Mass Communications and Business majors. If you don't like your major, its not hard to find something you love or something you want to work with in the future. I changed my major from computer engineering to sport administration and its the best decision i've made yet. And as an african-american student, the african-american community here is tight and there's always a chance to meet each other.

My case is quite different since I went to a college-like high school. LSU uses some of the same books and publishers my high school did. Regardless, some courses can be challenging, and the tests usually make you analyze and infer information. You'll write a lot of essays here, but the teachers are here to help. Learning occurs both in the classrooms and out of them.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being here. LSU is really big for a Louisiana college, but it has lots or resources, including extracurricular clubs, a gym (REC center), and lots of other cool freebies on their website. I love how LSU is like one big family, but then there are more little families located inside of it. There's something here for everyone, and I'm pretty sure nearly everyone has a special place here.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition has been rising, but it's pretty cheap compared to other flagship schools. Sometimes tuition at LSU is cheaper for out-of-state students than for those students to go in-state. Food and books can get costly and so can dorm rooms and apartments. However, I'd rather pay the money and come to LSU because of the people you meet and the families that you create.

    Tips for prospective students

Touring the campus would be a good idea. The campus takes about 15--20 minutes to cross, but don't let that stop you! It's not so big once you get use of it. If you're touring LSU, you should definitely stop by and see Mike the Tiger and the Dairy store. I encourage you to do the best you can and get into the Honors College. You get your own special location on campus with your own classroom building and dorms. Plus you get to schedule early. Game days are hectic, but there are lots of awesome football chants, and when LSU plays, they put on a show. I also encourage prospective students to apply REALLY early for housing since it goes quickly. If you can't get on campus, don't panic. There are lots of apartments near by that are on a free bus route to LSU. It's also important to get involved with a club as soon as possible so you don't feel lost by the number of people on the campus. We have lots of awesome things, including transit, the library where they host a rave once a semester, the union with lots of food, a book store, a parade grounds where they host lots of competitions and events. There's probably something for everyone here.

Great for these types of students

I would recommend students who want to learn yet want a good social life at the same time. It's also good for students who love sports. If you live in Louisiana, LSU is probably one of your better schools to go to. It's especially great for Architecture students (the program is HIGHLY rigorous), engineering students, and students who want to do research.

    Will learn a lot

Although LSU's academic standards seem lower than other schools, that doesn't mean that a straight A, challenge-seeking student won't get a challenge. As long as you choose to challenge yourself, you will have no problem.

    Will enjoy being here

LSU has the most comfortable campus out there. You will feel like you're at home all the time. Everyone is friendly and willing to help. The atmosphere is outstanding; from the sports events to the concerts on campus, there is always something to do.

    Bang for the buck

When comparing LSU's pricing to other schools out there, you can't get anything better. The out-of-state tuition is actually about $5,000-$10,000 less expensive than most other schools. You get a great education for a great price.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a campus tour and talk with an admissions councelor to make sure this is for you.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who love a college town atmosphere with a joy for learning and fun.

This school offers a broad spectrum of majors, and has top of the line professors!

    Will enjoy being here

The social environment of this campus is wonderful, theres always a lot of people out on the quad, the school has clubs for everything you could ever imagine, and the large number of students ensures that people will be able to make friends.

    Bang for the buck

This school isn't too expensive, especially for in-state students receiving TOPS.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to apply early so that you can maximize your chances for scholarships as well as to increase your chances of living in the dorm of your choice.

Great for these types of students

Social, outgoing, intelligent students will thrive in this environment.

LSU is huge! Tailgating is a big deal here. There's lots to do here as far as activities go.

    Tips for prospective students

Download the LSU app for iPhone or iPad. It has great maps, directories, and sports schedules.

    Academic Rigor

Schoolwork isn't too difficult. Coming from the top high school in the state, nothing really compares. However, for the average student, a little studying should go a long way.

    Dorm Life

I didn't live in a dorm, they were full. I live off campus in a really great apartment. It's walking distance from campus, and has great amenities.

    Food and Dining

The 5, the 459, and the student union are where you can find food on campus. The newly renovated union has Panda Express, Chick Fil A, and much more. It's great. They also take tiger cash (the money on your LSU ID), and sometimes they do meal transfers (using a meal from your meal plan at one of the restaurants). The 459 has Taco Bell and Papa Johns which is pretty awesome, and The 5 is your best bet for just a dining hall.

    What to do for fun

Like LSU Res Life on Facebook for updates on things to do on campus. Splatterbeat is awesome. You take turns banging on drums full of paint. Fall Fest is a great way to mingle and have great food. These are just a few activities that are annual. LSU puts on tons of events every year for students. If you're into clubs, Tigerland is that place to be. It's located on the south side of campus, and it's a great place to party and have fun.

    Clubs and Activities

There are hundreds of clubs and activities for all walks of life. There's something for everyone.

    Greek Life

Greeks are pretty active on campus. Only 6 of the Divine 9 are currently on LSU's campus.

    Campus Safety

The campus is pretty safe. There's your occasional mugging, but LSU PD gets on things pretty quickly, and the perps are usually caught. LSU also offers Campus Transit. It's a bus that takes LSU students anywhere they need to get on campus from 5:30pm to 3am. That way, students don't have to walk late at night if they're in night classes. LSU PD also brings students places late at night if they're walking.

This college is a lot of fun and offers many programs and clubs. They have a great student outreach program and have many events for students. There are many benefits to being at the college.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to get involved on campus! Make sure to make friends in each class and introduce yourself to the professor. Always stay on top of assignments and study hard!

    Academic Rigor

This college has a demanding work load. You will need to organize your time wisely and stay on top of assignments. The actual work isn't all that hard though.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is everything here. You will gain friends quickly and learn insider tips to living on campus.

    Food and Dining

We have two awesome cafeterias on campus as well as numerous popular food chains in the union. No matter what you're craving there will be a place for you to eat!

    What to do for fun

There's always student activities being offered. One popular thing is to meet up for flag football or frisby after class on the parade grounds. Also being so close to downtown you can go check out the night life.

    Bang for the buck

Being from Louisiana is was great to find a college so established close to home. It's a gorgeous campus with many opportunities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have MANY unusual traditions here at LSU. Our football tailgate parties are something that cannot be described. You have to come to one to understand the magic! Another thing we have is our beloved clock tower. It's at the center of campus and a symbol of our school. Many couples come here for new years or valentine's night for a kiss. They say you'll be together forever. One more fun, but weird, thing we do is voting to have someone from our football team kiss the pig!

Great for these types of students

We have a WIDE variety of students on campus. Probably someone outgoing and friendly would do well at this campus. Don't be afraid to express yourself and let you geek flag fly! Fashion forward students also blend in well.

    Clubs and Activities

We have designated day where we have club fairs that take up all of campus. We have more clubs and activities than I can count! There's something for everyone!

    Greek Life

It's huge here on campus. They basically dominate everything and have some many events. We also have NUMEROUS houses to join.

    Campus Safety

Being that we're by downtown Baton Rouge we aren't exactly the best place to be at night. However, LSU has gone to great lengths to ensure student safety and for the most part campus is a great place to hang out with little crime.

LSU has a variety of courses to choose from obviously, but I find myself also looking at the professors more rather than looking at the courses. A subject can be easy as whatever, but if you aren't matched with a professor that fits you it really doesn't matter. I learned LSU students love MacBooks, ratemyprofessor, and socializing. It's my first year and my overall lesson learned: It's not all what you know, but who you know as well.

    Am enjoying being here

LSU is great for students who are dedicated and push themselves. Push yourself to go to the 7am class even though nobody takes attendance. do NOT get lazy i'm speaking from experience. if you must have your parent call you every morning to get you up, do it!! make friends, especially with people in your major. join a club or volunteer. just be active.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are boring, teachers just teach the subject because they want a check. Lack of interest. Then you have some really good professors, word of advice ask upper classmens what teacher to take.

    Dorm Life

I lived in the campus apartments. Then I moved off campus which I regret. While living on campus everything is right next to you, makes it so much easier and you don't have to worry about parking which is a nightmare.

    Food and Dining

Food is good, have a lot of options in the dinning halls and local restaurants nearby the campus to walk to.

    What to do for fun

If you are a party person Tigerland is where you want to be. If you are a chilled, relaxed person then the Parade grounds is the place to be always something going on there. Or a walk around the lakes.

I would rate Louisiana State University on a scale of 1-10, definitely a 10 plus! The people there are extremely friendly and welcoming, the staff is very helpful, and the food is amazing of course. The campus is an absolute dream....especially on game days, Geaux Tigers!

    Tips for prospective students

Keep an open mind about everything. You get more out of the college experience by putting in your own effort. College is what you make.

    Academic Rigor

People think of LSU as a party school but when you actually go there it's quite a wake up call. Classes are not a joke and they are tough and fast pace. You have a lot of studying ahead of you.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is amazing. You can meet some of your best friends there. All dorms are convenient to classes and food. They are all very nice and well kept.

    Food and Dining

Food is amazing. No matter where you go in Louisiana the food is great but on campus it is absolutely to die for! The dining halls are remodeled and very clean and the food is absolutely amazing. You will gain freshman 15 just from the amount of food you'll consume there.

    What to do for fun

Life is always an adventure at Louisiana State University. You can walk around the beautiful campus, visit Mike the tiger at his habitat, drive to Perkins Rowe or the Mall of Louisiana. You can even take a quick trip down to New Orleans for food, shopping, and of course night life.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

On Valentines Day it is a tradition to go with you boyfriend or girlfriend down to the Camponille(the clock tower). When the clock chimes you must kiss your special someone!

Great for these types of students

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs and it should be on everyones checklist to at least join two of them. They will come in handy in the long run. Some are goofy and some represent a serious cause.

    Greek Life

Greek life is amazing. All of the houses are beautiful located on a lake. You cannot go wrong if you join a sorority or fraternity here.

    Campus Safety

You should never walk alone in the dark no matter what campus you're on. But LSU does offer a few transportation options to help you out when you have no one to walk with. They will pick you up and take you where you need to be free of charge.

LSU has one of the most passionate student body in the country. The research programs and opportunities here are incredible. If you're a freshman who's undecided on what to major in, have no worries because LSU has the most diverse selection of majors to choose from.

    Tips for prospective students

GO TO CLASS! DON'T PARTY ON MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY! But live it up on Thursdays-Saturdays!

    Academic Rigor

It's pretty tough. You definitely have to study and go to class. It's not as hard as an ivy-league or rigorous private college, but the professors expect you to know how to study. Which was hard for me because I was never tought how to study in high school.

    Dorm Life

I never lived in a dorm, so I wouldnt know about dorm life. I do know that they always have a bunch of events going on! And they just built brand new state-of-the-art Engineering and Business dorms! And just finished building brand new dorms for the Honor's College! And are currently building brand new residential dorms for the School of Education (Kinesiology majors). But there are a ton of apartments off campus that are within walking distance! They are about $200 more expensive than the ones within driving distance, though.

    Food and Dining

It's a school in Louisiana. Enough said.

    What to do for fun

Go to Tigerland and downtown! And for sure go to the football games.

    Bang for the buck

We have one of the lowest in-state tuitions in the SEC. And a pretty low out-of-state tuition too, that is really easy to get waived with a high ACT score.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We also have the only habitat for a live endangered species (Siberian-Bengal tiger) on a college campus in the country.

Great for these types of students

Minorities, those who love good food, football aficionados, and those who love to balance partying with studying.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many ways to get involved on campus!

    Greek Life

Less than 20% of the student body are greek. They do have amazing houses located on the water.

Sometimes it can be tough with the lack of availability for certain courses due to the fact that the school has a very large student population, but everyone is aware and willing to work towards solving those problems. Faculty and staff are very involved and make all kinds of resources available for students. They have a department for almost anything you can imagine and will help you with anything they can.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere is very relaxed. The school has a historical feeling due to the old infrastructure, which is great. Greek life is a very important component of the social scene, but everyone finds their place whether it be in a frat or a club. The student population is very diverse, from the stereotypical southern housewife-in-the-making to the atheist that always makes the Dean's List.
