    The science and required pre-med courses here are very rigorous. Expect a heavy workload for chemistry and biology classes, hours of studying a night. However being persistent makes the workload definitely doable and you will do better for the MCAT. Other majors beyond the sciences do not require as much work and those students have more social lives.

    Nice kids, and a great overall atmosphere here in Chicago. The competition is fierce among pre-med students since everyone is trying to get the A. The food however is not very great on campus, but off-campus Chicago has some of the best food in the country. Loyola has a very nice fitness center, but the free weight room is somewhat small.

    Some of Loyola's facilities need some work. The dorms are not the best and if you can avoid Campion hall do so! The new information commons library is great however. Loyola is a very expensive school and there is a lot of red tape and bureaucracy with trying to get financial aid. They do not give out academic scholarships after the first year. So if you don't get one coming into the school, don't expect to get money if you post great grades after your first year.

    Sign up as early as you can for freshman orientation. This is where you sign up for classes, and many classes and the good teachers fill up fast. A sooner orientation ensures that you get the classes you want and the schedule that fits your lifestyle.

    This school is great for anyone wanting to go into a health science profession or is looking to go to medical school. The biology program is very popular here as most pre-med kids choose biology as their major. Just make sure you are fully committed to the work that is required if you choose to go this route. Otherwise you'll end up dropping classes and W's will appear on your transcript.

    As a nursing student at Loyola University I was immediately enrolled in classes directly related to my major. The teachers for my nursing classes encouraged me to take initiative in getting involved early within the nursing field. They taught me that nursing is not just taking care of sick patients but taking on the incredible role of helping someone with their spiritual, mental, and physical health. Since I came to Loyola I have become extremely passionate about my chosen career due to the compassion and encouragement of faculty members and fellow students. I am truly excited to take on another year at Loyola.

    Loyola University was not originally my first choice for college, however, I have no regrets in choosing to attend. In fact, I believe that choosing Loyola was the best decision I could have made. I did not come here with any friends, however my Resident Assistant made it easy to enjoy activities around Chicago while meeting girls that lived on my floor! Throughout the year I found support and encouragement from both friends and teachers which helped me destress from an academically challenging schedule. It was also very easy to connect one on one with teachers because the classes were so small.

    I believe that Loyola is worth going to regardless of cost because of the outstanding faculty and program for nursing. However, it is still very costly to attend. Although it will not be easy for me to find a way to pay tuition, I am willing to do everything in my power in order to be able to stay at such a wonderful school. If at all possible, I plan to enroll in Loyola's graduate school for a master's degree in nursing.

    Apply as soon as you possibly can if you think you might want to go to Loyola, this will help you get the most aid since scholarships are on a first come, first serve basis. Also, if you plan to attempt to get into the nursing program spots fill up quickly, so the sooner you apply the better. But you should keep one thought in mind academically, it is easy to get into Loyola but hard to stay. Loyola will continuously challenge you in order to bring out your best, however it will not be easy!

    This school is PERFECT for nursing students! Loyola's nursing program is in the 95th percentile for the NCLEX.

    I have found that LUC not only teaches us, but make us think about situations from different points of view. The Jesuit Tradition is big on having students consider all the reasons behind making a decision and the events that cause certain situations. A good example of this is when I had to read the Odyssey and then argue whether or not Odysseus deserved everything that happened to him. It was interesting and fun. Half the time in class you don't even realize how much you are learning.

    Chicago is a great city-add Loyola and you have a match made in heaven (no pun intended). The school is always having events (block parties, tailgating before Volleyball and Soccer games... and more!) that are usually free to LUC students or at a discounted price (hey, they know we're poor college students). We also get U-Passes which allow unlimited travel on the CTA. The whole City is open to us. There is always something to do, even if it's wandering around downtown Chicago at night with friends, then going to the Cheesecake Factory.

    It is slightly more expensive than some of the other private schools in IL (Bradley for example) but you have to remember that you are in Chicago and you are paying for that. But I believe it is worth every cent. And they are good about giving scholarships out. If you don't like the package they give you, take a parent in and talk to the Bursars office. They might give you more money.
    Tips for prospective students

    AP classes really help in the long, even if they are annoying and the tests sometimes evil. Also, don't be afraid when visiting to ask questions. If you see a student just walking around, 9 times out of 10 he or she would be more than happy to talk to you (this way you're not just getting the perspectives of students who work for admissions-not that they are different from the rest of the student body). Also, take an overnight and attend class-this will help you see what really happens. Oh and apply early as it can make a difference in the financial aid dept.

    There are all kinds of students at Loyola. It's a very welcoming place. Rest assured you will fit in. And there are plenty of clubs/organizations to choose from. There really is something for everyone.

    Loyola University Chicago prides itself in its ability to prepare people to lead extraordinary lives. I believe LUC does just that. LUC's professors are excellent, in fact, most have doctorates in their fields and are very knowledgeable. What makes these professors truly great is their desire to tranfer their knowledge to their students through their willingness to answer questions in and out of the classroom.

    What better place to spend your year than Chicago. Every morning students will enjoy their own private viewing of Lake Michigan along side of the hustle and bustle of a busy city. Students will receive the arts, culture, along with the college experience in their own oasis.

    Overall, college has become unreasonably expensive and LUC is no different. Tuition at Loyola is greater than some other universities, however, you must weigh the education and experience received from this great school against the cost. I believe the benefits outweigh the costs.

    I would tell students to take advantage of all that Loyola has to offer. They offer a lot and it is up to us to find these opportunities.

    LUC has been great for me. I'm a theatre major, and I adore the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. They have personal counselors for you within this department, and they all work hard for you to succeed. Taking CORE classes really rounds out my liberal arts education, while I still get to learn about every aspect of my chosen field. I'm learning so much about myself and the world around me here.

    I love it. It has a nice, neighborhood feel, but it a mere shuttle ride away from downtown. I've had classes at our Water Tower campus downtown, and I would go for a quick shopping break after class almost every week! The Lake Shore campus is beautiful and RIGHT on the water- which you won't find anywhere else in Chicago.

    College is too expensive; Loyola is no different. However, I got a $10,000 scholarship with my acceptance letter and more came later. I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but I can still afford LUC.

    Take lots of CORE classes freshman year, so if you change your major later, your classes will still count!

    Nursing and biology is big here, but I love our DFPA family. I highly recommend this school to students interested in the arts, because the faculty is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in that field.

    The college application process is often very stressful, but also very rewarding as it encourages you to begin to discover who you are, through very small steps at first. The rest of the discovery can be unearthed while at college as students live through different situations that requires maturity and independence to resolve and through the core curriculum academically. The core curriculum embraces studies from diverse fields, whether you are studying the effects of humans on the environment or reading and analyzing a classic novel in English, the professors at Loyola are all experienced experts in their fields who are willing to give their knowledge and support to students both inside and outside the classroom. They are always encouraging students to email or visit office hours for questions or help and most professors will answer back within 24 hours, though often much sooner. I find that my professors carry a deep passion for their fields and they teach to infuse that passion and knowledge into their students. Loyola also encourages students to study abroad through the John Felice Rome Center or the Beijing Center, and do internships or research. My semester is filled with diverse and interesting classes that are taught by very experienced, passionate professors who are always available to help. Although Loyola is known for its exceptional pre-med and nursing programs, they do not only focus on those majors, but rather embraces the diversity of every student and work to provide the best experience for everyone. The academics alone is enough to outweigh the high cost of attending Loyola, yet there are even more benefits: you are studying in Chicago, one of the most diverse and historical city, you will be able to see the sun rise and set everyday on Lake Michigan, and you are surrounded by new friends who share the same interests and passions as you.

    I have met many exceptional professors and made new friends since I started at Loyola. The school host events all the time and it is always a great time to meet other students. Chicago is such a great city to study in and downtown is only a few stops away on the CTA and a shuttle ride away on the school shuttle. The Lake Shore Campus is not situated downtown, so we can enjoy the softer, quieter days by the Lake and then Loyola's other campus, The Water Tower Campus is right on Michigan Avenue downtown. The school shuttle travels back and forth between both campuses and you can pick the campus your classes are taught in based on who you are: the hustle bustle city lover or the modest calm of Lake Shore. Because we live and study in Chicago, we now have the entire city to explore and embrace.

    Although Loyola is an expensive school, I feel that the quality of the academic program and the passion and expertise of the professors makes it all worth it. Loyola is a well-respected university with an outstanding faculty that provides many opportunities for studying abroad, working internships, or engaging in research.
    Tips for prospective students

    Sign up for the earliest orientation because you will register for classes there. If you are the earliest group, you have first pick on the best classes, professors, and times. Socially, you will be plunged into a community with tons of people you don't know, but be open, be friendly, and maybe some of the people in that group will one day become your closest friends. Also, the professors are there to offer you help, so take it. Get to know your professors and don't be afraid to ask questions or for help when you need it. The professors are very friendly and are always willing to help you. Apply early to Loyola and you might be able to get more financial aid as the scholarships are on a first come-first serve basis.

    Loyola offers a rigorous program for those in pre-med, nursing, or in a related health-care field. Yet any student in any major can have a challenging and satisfying college experience because the focus is evenly given to students in all fields.     In the two years I've been at Loyola, I've had classes where I've learned a lot and had fun during the process, but I've also had classes that I've found to be utterly pointless. Really, whether or not you learn a lot depends on the classes at the teachers your choose. My freshman year I took the lower level classes that were required as part of the core or prerequisites - meaning a lot of it was a repeat of what I'd already learned. However, sophomore year, I learned a lot as I was able to choose the higher level classes that I had an interest in. In all, I use rate my professor to find teachers that are good and fun and so I end up learning a lot.

    I've managed to choose professors who have made topics interesting and engaging - so much so that I look forward to going to class and time just flies by. Loyola has some really good teachers that will make learning enjoyable. But, the best part about Loyola is its location. Being in Chicago gives you access to one of the best and most eventful cities in the world. Plus, as an added bonus, the school gives you a U-Pass as part of your tuition, meaning that during the semester you can ride the L anytime to go almost anywhere in the city. Your experience at Loyola will be what you make of it - if you just stay on campus in the dorms it won't be as much fun as it would be if you go out and enjoy what the city has to offer. Also, the school offers a lot of activities/clubs/sports that you can get involved in. The more you get involved, the better your experience will be!

    The biggest drawback of Loyola is its cost. Tuition is just over 40,000 per year (without aid and scholarships) and it continues to increase each year. Because Loyola is a private school, tuition is typically higher than those of state universities which receive government funding. However, the more aid you receive and the more scholarships you apply for make the school a lot more appealing. Although I get plenty of aid I still feel the school is a bit expensive, in retrospect I should have applied for more scholarships, but I guess again, part of the high cost the location - being right on the lake raises the cost of everything. Furthermore, the ongoing construction isn't helping to lower tuition either. For the next few years, there will be a lot of construction going on - new buildings and new dorms. They should all be really nice when they're done, but they're also really expensive. Also, I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed that Loyola continues to cut back course offerings for the 200-300 level courses. As a Political Science, International Studies, and History major, finding interesting courses continues to become more challenging each year, as does building a decent schedule. Classes are being cut in order to save the school money, meaning I don't get to take all the classes I would have liked to - for the amount of money I pay, it is frustrating. Also, the meal plans are disappointing. The food choices are repetitive (same stuff all the time) and it is sub-par quality. However, there is Rambler Room (where you order custom food) or stores where you can buy premade stuff, however, the markup on the products is significant and a bit absurd.
    Tips for prospective students

    Really if you do what the school asks you to when you apply, you should get in. If I remember right the average ACT score is like a 24-25, so you should at least aim for somewhere around there to raise your chances. Also, I think the school accepts more than 70% of those that apply so just do all the necessary steps completely and promptly. But remember, the better your grades, extracirricular involvement, and ACT scores, the more aid you'll get. While in High School, do all you can to maximize your appeal and the cost will be significantly less for you.

    If you like big cities and urban areas, this school is for you. Be aware of the climate in Chicago though. If you don't like strong winds, frequent rain, and cold winters then stay away. There's a lot Chicago has to offer, but you have to be willing to go out into the city and meet new people. If you come from a small town or a suburb, Loyola will be a completely new experience for you and you can't be afraid of going out and trying new things.

    I am a freshmen attending at Loyola and I love it here. I have learned from professors and students how to manage time, how to study, and to believe in myself. I have also learned how to work in groups and what to do in financial aid and loans.

    The advisors are very helpful and very honest. All the students interact with each other and help in many different ways such as hunger week, donations, soup kitchens etc. All the students not only focus in school but also focus in the community.

    Although Loyola University is known for their magnificent pre-med and nursing programs I have to say that Loyola focuses on giving everyone a challenging but rewarding college experience. I am a college freshmen double majoring in Political Science and Business Management. I have found that there are very few classes if any that you can blow off. Teachers here give you the grade you really deserve as opposed to high school teachers. You might find that getting an A in all your courses may seem impossible but sometimes even getting a B is just as rewarding if not more. Overall, I love the faculty here and the academics.

    While I have to say Loyola University is not as diverse as I would like it to be I learned to enjoy being here. First of all, the campus is absolutely beautiful! Another positive thing is that its location allows students to explore and enjoy their newly found freedom to the fullest. Traveling downtown or going to the lake is quite simple. This also helps in case you plan to get a job out of campus. While I sometimes do feel outnumbered due to the fact that there are barely any Hispanics here, school organizations such as LASO help me feel more welcome. I feel like I know most of the Hispanic students here.

    Loyola University is pretty expensive. However, the academic program offered here is definitely worth it. Many of the professors have the highest degree in their field. I recently had a professor say that our school is looking to compete with Northwestern's academic program. The dorms are pretty good except for Mertz Hall, which has community bathrooms. The one thing I do not really enjoy is the cafeteria food. The way out of this problem is to go to the Rambler room or go to any of the many restaurants nearby which sometimes offer student discounts. In addition, Loyola is very generous with financial aid.
    Tips for prospective students

    Do not take a class at 8:30 offered at the Water Tower Campus!One of the classes I would highly recommend is Human Values in Literature with Mr. Fruhauff. Overall, try to have an open mind about courses and balance out your schedule so that it fits your needs. Do not try to do too much in one semester but do try to get involved in extra curriculars. You will not regret it.

    If you are pursuing pre-med or nursing this is definitely the school for you. However, the Business program is excellent too. It was recently ranked No. 22 on the Global 100 list by the Aspen Institute's Beyond Grey Pinstripes Survey. Another popular major here is Psychology.

    The courses here at Loyola are definiantly challenging, but it does ensure you that you are learning a lot. The professors here, for the most part, really do want you to succeed. I love the fact that there are so many areas of study and core curriculum allows for you to taste test a bit of everything.

    I love the environment, because although you have the great city of Chicago at your finger tips, the lake shore campus doesn't seem too much like the city. You get the best of both worlds, the academic college campus and the hustle and bustle of the city.

    Loyola is on no way the school for someone trying not to spend alot. I believe it is about 40,000 a year. It true though that Loyola gives out many scholarships too. But you are paying for a top notch education, loyola is a well respected university with great professors and top honors.

    Get involved on campus its a great way to meet people, and at the beggining of every semester the school has an activities fair, where all the clubs and organizations set up booths where you can learn about them and find out when meetings are and how to join. Also when you first get there leave your door open, another great way to meet the people that you'll be sharing a floor with for the whole year.

    If you love the city, you will love Loyola. but be warned if you're going to college to party loyola isnt the best pick, although there are parties they usually die down towards the middle of the year, and there is not a very large greek system for those looking to have that large greek life experience. Also everyone smokes, its almost like an art school campus with the amount of smokers around. But everyone is very friendly in the midwest and on campus, and although it seemed like a large school for me when i first went it really isn't almost everyone seems to know each other, whether they hang out all the time or are just acquaintance of.

    I am currently enrolled in the School of Nursing at LUC, and it is one of the hardest programs to get accepted in and remain in. The classes are rigorous, and there will be many days where you will be living in the library studying for your exams. I have learned a lot of the material that has been presented to me, but I have learned even more about myself. This program is a huge challenge, but if you are looking to get into the nursing field, LUC is definitely the best choice.

    Only about 5 people from my high school are currently at LUC, but they are people that I hardly talked to. It is very easy to meet people here because most of them are friendly and approachable. My best advice is to get to know people in your major. In my experience, being in the nursing program is like having a second family. We all look out for each other and study with one another all the time. I am very happy with my choice of attending LUC.

    LUC is expensive, but they gave me a lot of financial aid, both merit and need based. Once you are in the school, you need to keep a 3.0 gpa to keep your merit based scholarship. If it is getting to be difficult to pay for school, the office of financial aid is pretty good about helping you look for scholarships. Expensive does not mean impossible.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you are choosing to go into one of the medical majors or science majors at Loyola, be prepared to be challenged in many ways, not just academically. Nursing for me has been a academic, mental, physical, and social challenge, but these challenges are what will shape you into becoming a great worker in your field. The non medical and non science majors at Loyola also work hard, but they still have a social life. If you choose a medical or science major, be prepared to spend Friday and Saturday nights in the library.
    THE BIGGEST TIP I CAN GIVE AN INCOMING FRESHMAN: EMAIL YOUR PROFESSOR! THEY CAN HELP YOU SO MUCH, AND YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR GRADES.

    If you are going into the medical field, this is the school for you. Students who want to go here need to be hard working and very dedicated. Procrastination here will doom your grades. I've seen a good amount of people being kicked out because they decided to slack off and not take school seriously. This school is definitely a challenge, but if you are ready to be challenged like never before, this is the right school for you.

    The classes here tend to be very difficult. There are high standards that every student is held to. Studying should be a main priority if attending Loyola. Loyola focuses on getting every student to take various core classes to expand ones knowledge on multiple levels. There are also four Core Values that help broaden ones horizons on Civic Engagement, Diversity, Spirituality, and Justice.

    Loyola gives a fare amount of scholarships. The price for coming here is a mass amount but financial need is something that is sincerely considered.

    Its Nursing program is incredible. It's a difficult program to get into and very difficult to stay in but the students I know that are nursing students have such a passion. All that's needed is determination and hard work. There are also multiple Pre- Med students that's to Loyola's wonderful College of Arts and Science. The courses are also difficult but it helps determine whose willing to go through with it.

    Loyola is a Jesuit religious based university and it reflects on their rule policy. Just like other Jesuit universities it is based around urban community development and support. It is a University that prides it's self in academic and social work.

    What is there to say, it's a great university academically so it can get tough but that all depends on the classes and professors you take.

    The restrictions here are pretty tough especially in comparison to other non religious universities. Furthermore Loyola is out to make money in anyway they can and that includes fines for the smallest things.

    The food in the dining hall gets old very quickly. There is diversity but the quality of food is quite low well unless you like your chicken cooked medium rare. However the staff there is really great and always fun to be around and talk to.
    What to do for fun

    Loyola is in the city and not just any city, Chicago. There is plenty of things to do if you just look and happen to have money to spend.

    In my opinion, they need much better professors for the beginner-level classes. Over the year and a half I've been here, I've noticed that many of the 100-level professors are not the greatest teachers. In order to get a great professor who really loves what they're doing, I've heard that you have to wait until you get into the 300-level classes. I believe that every class is valuable time to learn though, so I think Loyola should work harder to find better professors for the 100 and 200-level classes.

    The main reason I do not enjoy being at Loyola very much is because this university does not have a very tight-knit community. There is hardly any school spirit here and many of the students do not like to branch out from their current social groups.

    I love the city but the cost of this school is ridiculous. As a second-year student here, for instance, they make you pay for a $650 food plan as well as an on-campus apartment that includes a kitchen. If we have to pay extra to have individual kitchens, I don't understand why we need to pay hundreds of dollars extra for their food. The money that goes onto our campus cards doesn't even role-over into the following year. In other words, if the student does not use all of the money on their card one year, Loyola keeps it and the student will have to add more money to their card the following year.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved. This is my number one tip for anyone who is starting at a new school. In order to meet people, you have to force yourself to get out there and try new things. You never know when or where you'll find the people you'll be spending the next four years with.

    If you love Chicago and do not mind spending money on weekends to go out, I would highly suggest this school. Also, if you plan on being a business student and want to be able to dress up and go downtown for class every day, Loyola is definitely the place for you.

    Loyola University definitely lives up to all the rumors. The classes are very in depth and they teach you all about the subjects you are involved in. Just like any other school, the quality and material can depend on the professor, but as of now I am definitely not disappointed.

    Loyola is a smaller campus that still gives you all you need. It is right next to Chicago and is fantastic when it comes to activities to do. Although this is true Loyola does not have the party school reputation so you will not have the party experience of a large public school. Just because this is true doesn't mean that you will not have a ton of fun.

    As a freshman I cannot tell you if the high tuition will pay off in the long run. Location does play a major factor in the price and I do believe that quality is there. Some of the dorms and buildings are a bit lower in quality but Loyola is always building. The IC is extremely helpful and when you need answers or help it is not hard to find.

    When choosing a school I suggest that you be picky. If you want something and a school doesn't have it keep looking! The only way to be happy is to figure out what fits for you. There are thousands of schools in the country and eventually you will find one. I went on about 14 college visits because nothing fit, but I am proof that once you find something that fits you, you will love it.

    Students will love this school if they can stand high amounts of course work, a family type atmosphere, sporting events that you can still attend but don't have an extreme following, a want to explore the city, and just like any college- students need to have the want to get out there and try new things. Also if you love the cold, Loyola is the place for you.

    Loyola has a great philosophy behind it's education system. Besides learning the basics of any material, Loyola stresses becoming a well rounded student; highlighting care for others, yourself, and the community. I'm attempting a crack at the medical field so Loyola definitely constructs a mindset equipped for any career in helping others.

    I would definitely give Loyola five stars but I can't help and miss my family. Chicago is very diverse and provides with much to do. Loyola is right off a stop on the El Train so it's easy to travel to downtown. The campus is just beautiful, walking besides the lake shore is very relaxing. The lakeside winds can be brutal but the view of Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago makes up for it.

    College tuition is expensive, as anyone might see it, and since Loyola is a private school it does cost extra. Though my finances worry me, I am attending my top college choice which makes me happy. I do think of transferring to a public school at times but I most likely won't receive as much help from them as I do at Loyola and based off of my first semester experience I think the expenses are worth it.

    I did not do so hot my first semester and I blame my severe case of senioritis that went away too late. So my advice: yes, college is hard so be afraid, be very afraid. Your fear might give an extra push to study, study, study. It's better to be safe than sorry.

    All of Loyola's professors are highly qualified for the positions that they hold. Many, if not all, of my professors have received a doctorate in the subject that they are teaching and conduct research outside of class. The classes are challenging, but you come out of them at the end of each semester with a lot of new knowledge. The professors here are always willing to help so that you can have the best experience possible while taking the course that they teach.

    Personally, I am very close to my family so not being able to spend time with them is hard. However, all of the students here are exceptional and will help you with anything that you might need. There are more than enough clubs and events to go around and if there is something that you are interested in that is not offered at Loyola, they welcome you to start up your own club. I know from experience that as long as you get a few friends together who share your interest, you can start your very own club! The atmosphere here is very welcoming and I am enjoying my time here on campus.

    Loyola is definitely one of the more expensive colleges that I looked into when applying for college, but it does come with a lot of amenities. Besides the excellent staff of scholars that teach here (which I think is worth your money alone) Loyola offers state-of-the-art athletic complexes and also holds a pristine location on Lake Michigan. Students are welcome to build muscle and tone the body at Halas Sports Center where Loyola supplies the students with top of the line workout equiptment and swimming pool. There are also yoga classes and various martial art classes that can be taken for free if you are a student here. The location on the lake is especially peaceful and a rare find for such a bustling city like Chicago.
    Tips for prospective students

    I would suggest to get the earliest possible orientation date, especially if you are going into the natural sciences/medical field. Don't be afraid to be yourself, there are plenty of people here that probably have similar interests as you. Also, get to know your professors. Many of the professors will recruit Undergrad. students to help them with their research and these experiences will look great on a resume. Study hard and have fun!

    LUC is great for students who are looking for a challenge and looking to go past undergraduate studies into some graduate program. Loyola is great for students looking to go on to medical school but be prepared, the classes aren't easy and the competition is fierce.

    If you are interested at all in being Pre-Med, Loyola is the right place for you. The classes are tough tough tough (especially Chemistry and Biology), but teachers make themselves available for questions. I am so happy that I took chemistry and biology before college, because knowing even the littlest detail from before can help your grade. Grades ARE NOT at all similar to high school- you have to work extremely hard for your grades, and they are not handed out easily. Expect challenging work, but the end results will pay off once you get accepted to med school (At least that's what I'm hoping).

    Great atmosphere. I love being so close to the city, yet being in our own little college atmosphere. The people are amazing, and every time I visit one of my friends at another campus, I am grateful to be going back to Loyola. I miss my friends while I am at home, and thoroughly enjoy being here everyday.

    Loyola is expensive, but out of the colleges I applied to, they are the ones that gave the most financial aid to me. The only thing is, you need to keep a B average to keep your scholarships. Trust me though, Loyola is worth the money.

    The pre-med courses are very challenging. However, classes for other majors are not so rigorous. Loyola has a core program where you are required to take a variety of classes from different disciplines (ex. philosophy, theology, science, english...) to graduate. Most of these classes are somewhat challenging but very interesting if you keep an open mind about taking them.

    The city of Chicago is great! Almost all of the students say being in Chicago is their favorite part of Loyola and we have both a North-side and downtown campus (right off Michigan Ave!), so its easy to get downtown. There aren't many school sponsored activities and the sports teams aren't a big presence so students tend to spend more time in the city, doing their own thing.

    Loyola is very expensive and most of the teachers are OK. There are a few great professors but, for what the school costs... The facilities are nice but limited and it seems like all of our tuition is going toward the never-ending construction on campus.

    If you're looking for a school in Chicago, be sure to visit the campuses. Although Loyola and DePaul seem similar, Loyola has much more of a definitive campus while DePaul is more urban. Also, check out the neighborhood right around campus when you visit because that is where you will most likely spend a lot of your time.

    Loyola is great for preppy, Catholic (especially Jesuit) school kids. But there is a lot of diversity (ethnic and religious) and a place for everyone to find their niche.

    Loyola sits in the heart of downtown. Go downtown and enjoy Chicago at night. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping centers for the people who love to shop/eat. Also, there is always something going on at Loyola like comedy jams, balls, dances, movies on campus etc. So you wont get bored to often. Combine this with a great friend base and you're golden.

    Loyola has a lot of different clubs. They have clubs that cater to a specific set of people like ACE which means Achieving College Excellence. It is for first generation college students who need guidance and or have financial issues. Another is called BCC which is the Black Cultural Center. It is directed at the African American students on campus and it brings them together on campus since the number of African American students isn't very large.
    Greek Life

    Greek life at Loyola is just like any other college except they don't have the traditional Frats or Sororities (Alpha, Kappa, Omega). There is a frat/sorority for every kind of person on campus. If Greek Life is your thing, then you are sure to find one you like at Loyola.

    The campus is insanely safe. Each building has an ID scanner that locks all Non-Loyola people/students out after a certain time. Plus they have officers patrol the entire campus at various times in the day. There hasn't been an incident that involved a Non-Loyola student because everything is so tight and locked up. There is no way your safety will be endangered.

    Pick a major you will enjoy, study hard, go to your professors' office hours if you need help or if you just want your professor to get to know you better as a student.

    Classes here are difficult, but a definitely worthwhile. My favourite classes have been in anthropology and philosophy. Unfortunately, good science and math professors are hard to find at Loyola, but there are some hidden gems so ask other students or check out ratemyprofessor.com
    Dorm Life

    The dorms here are pretty awful! I stayed in Campion my freshman year and it was small, far from campus, cold, and something was always going wrong with the water or electricity in the bathrooms. If you are lucky enough to be in Regis or Simpson your freshman dorm experience will be much better.

    The food is not that great. It's some what of a hit or miss; some days the food is good and others not so much.
    What to do for fun

    Being in Chicago definitely has its perks! The lakeshore campus is just a shuttle bus or El train ride to downtown for the shopping, food and fun!

But if you are interested in a frat or sorority, there is one for pretty much every type of person, even business/academic ones.

    Loyola's lakeshore campus isn't in the safest of neighbourhoods, but the Campus Safety officers do their best to keep everyone safe. We have an 8-ride van that you can call if you are within a 2-mile radius of campus and you need to be picked up. Also, you can sign up to get text alerts if an emergency occurs.

    Dorming is more expensive than tuition! I chose to live off campus because it was 4k cheaper. Dorming is mandatory the first two years at Loyola and getting a housing exemption is a big headache but you can get exempt.

    Gradually, the quality of food at the dining hall gets worse, but that's the same for every other school! Loyola is expanding it's horizon and constructing new stores. A new pizza place opened up by campus this year. We also have Chinese, Chipotle, Starbucks, five guys, red mango, and a million other places to eat located by campus.

    Loyola provides it's students with a CTA pass, which gives free rides on trains and buses throughout the school year. Loyola is a 25 minute train ride away from the downtown Chicago.

    Campus safety is excellent. After 6pm, if you are afraid to walk home alone, you can call 8-ride which picks you up and drops you off to where you need to go!

    Loyola is a great choice for students who are pursuing any career in the medical field. Loyola revolves their curriculum around Jesuit Catholic values some of which are justice, faith and diversity. Loyola has two campuses within the windy city of Chicago encompassing two different worlds of lake shore beauty or downtown excitement.

    Make sure you are vigilant when it comes to planning your classes especially in regards to time. Never leave your valuables exposed on a table or desk unattended (even when going to the bathroom) as this allows the perfect opportunity for theft. Utilize all Loyola has to offer because remember, you are paying for them! Do so by exploring buildings such as the library, the IC, tutoring center and much more.

    Loyola is a private Catholic institution that requires hardwork and dedication from each of it's students. Each student must fulfill the CORE requirements as well as complete their major's requirements. If you work hard by studying, completing your projects on time and turning in papers on time, you will be considered one of Loyola's top students. Keep in mind, some classes will be easier than others but most of the time the classes will be difficult.     Loyola's food isn't the greatest compared to public universities but they do offer a variety of foods to chose from.     Loyola University is a small but rapidly growing urban school. President Garanzini's fundraising efforts have allowed the school to make major updates to facilities and technology over the past 5 years. The core curriculum provides an opportunity to become the most well-rounded student and citizen.
    Academic Rigor

    College is what you put into it. I would not call Loyola's curriculum the most rigorous out there, but if you are really there to learn, you will have the opportunity to get an education that is second to none.
    Dorm Life

    Meh, the dorms are fine, especially since they built new dorms on the lake shore campus as well as downtown. I was really excited to be an upper class student living in one of the best neighborhoods in the city, Rogers Park.
    Food and Dining

    Chicago = great food. Get out of the Loyola bubble and go explore. Campus food is great, but some of the best restaurants in the world are a train ride away.

    Loyola University Chicago is a school that can improve in res-life and food. It is a school that should be proud of their views of volunteerism and community. It is an open school, (you don't need to be Christian to come here.)

    If you want to apply here:
    Make sure you have volunteered at some point in your high school career- the more the better

    Maintain your GPA your senior year, they will revoke your acceptance if need be
    Academic Rigor

    I am pre-med and in one of the harder majors; however, teachers here always take their classes seriously. There really is no such thing as an easy A here.
    Dorm Life

    Make sure you make friends, otherwise you will be miserable. Also, keep in mind that you and your roommate may not be the best of friends. Things happen and fights happen. Be accommodating, yet don't be walked on. Remember, it's not just your room (unless you live in a single. Lucky, rich you!)
    Food and Dining

    The food is disgusting. There is no sugar coating it.
    What to do for fun

    There is a lot to do. If you get bored with Rogers Park, just hop on the L and go to any other neighborhood (just be careful when you go past downtown!) Also, we have our own shuttle that will take you straight to downtown, specifically to our WTC. Chicago is expensive, so spend wisely, but have fun.

    Loyola recently raised tuition, so it seems like it isn't as worth it as it used to be. I would be a commuter if I could, dorm life is just not worth it to me.

    We have quidditch here. There are certain study spots (the stacks and the reading room, aka the Harry Potter room) that are amazing.

    The studiers, the partiers, the quiet ones, the friendly ones. Really anybody can find their own group. It's an open and rather liberal atmosphere.

    I thought it would be awkward for me since I'm not religious and I'm not Christian, but really I've never felt anything forced or anything taken from me since I am not. I feel just as accepted as I could be.

    Loyola University Chicago School of Law offers a part-time evening program. It is great for students who need or want to work full-time and attend law school in the evening. It's difficult for single parents to do, but if you have child care in the evenings, it's a great option.

    - You can rent a bike out from Loyola and ride it to Downtown and take a stroll by Lake Michigan
    - At least once a week I visit the Water Tower Campus located in Downtown to go for a shopping spree.

    There are so many clubs and activities at Loyola that help you build leadership skills, confidence as well as long last friendships. I am part of the Polish Club and I'm planning to join a sorority next year which I absolutely can't wait for! :)

    Loyola Campus Safety is awesome! Around our campus there are speakers that you can contact in case of an emergency. Also, Loyola Campus Safety has specifically designed cars/vans to pick you up and drive you to your dorm, usually they will drive you within a mile.

    one thing to keep in mind is that 2/3 of the population is female. it is also rather expensive.

    while loyola is not one of the universities that come to mind when thinking of the nation's top schools, it has committed teachers and a diverse student body. it provides a quality education in the jesuit tradition. the honors program is challenging but interesting.

    better than most other campuses, although you will inevitably get tired of the on-campus dining after a while.

    an excellent school based around ethics, personal character, and community involvement. it is a great school for any science (especially pre-med) and business related fields. the university has pretty good resources to help students enter the job market after graduation.

    visit the campus before you apply so see if the area is right for you. also speak with an academic adviser to discuss career goals and if the university has a program that will fit your goals .

    most classes require an adequate amount of studying and work outside of class to maintain a strong gpa. class attendance and participation is strongly recommended. most of the faculty are willing to help students out when needed.
    Dorm Life

    great living amenities for all students. rooms are fully finished, carpeted, have heating/air controlled in-room, wireless internet, free cable, and include furniture (bed, desk, and dresser). all dorms include laundry facilities and lounges.
    Food and Dining

    typical dining hall/cafeteria food, nothing special. there are 3 dining halls on campus, all which serve different food every single day. the dining halls offer a strong variety, but average quality.
    What to do for fun

    the university is in a great location of the city. downtown chicago is only 20 minutes south by public transportation, and the suburb evanston is only 10 minutes north (public transportation passes provided by the university). immediately around the university are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops. there is also a beach one block north of campus that get pretty populated during the warmer months.

    loyola is an expensive school, but not outrageously unaffordable, and financial aid is available to students who qualify (typically gpa based). there is a ton of construction on campus lately, but the outcome will be worth it in the long run.

    loyola is right next to lake michigan, with a public beach only one block north of campus. the beach and lake are very popular spots during the summer months.

    roughly 15% of undergrads are involved in greek life. loyola has 4 fraternities and 5 sororities.

    for the location, campus is pretty safe. the whole university and a 6-block radius are patrolled by security and police forces. shuttle services can be used to transport students around the area from 6pm-2am. students are also kept informed by emails, text messages, and an updated security report every week in the campus newspaper

    loyola doesn't lie when they say that it's cooler by the lake. the classes, the professors, the students, and campus life couldn't be better. i wouldn't dream of spending these four years anywhere else.

    if you aren't sure, come take a tour! there's always something going on on campus and you would be warmly welcomed during your visit. definitely make loyola your home away from home.

    i'm a part of the honors program, and it is by far the most rigorous part of my week. of course there's homework, papers, and exams, but that's college. the difference is that professors make it their priority to help you. they are always willing to see you during office hours and most are willing to set up an appointment if you need extra time.

    loyola is my home. i never want to leave, and when i do i can't wait to get back. the people are warm and friendly, and there are always things to take part in. we definitely take advantage of the sense of community and constantly take part in floor and hall-wide activities.

    wherever you go, dining hall food gets old fast. simpson dining makes up for the lack of variety with fran though, she's always there to encourage us through our day. the food is decent enough to keep us going, but if you go within an hour before closing, don't expect super hot or fresh food.
    What to do for fun

    chicago, chicago, chicago. there is always something to do, whether you explore downtown, or the surrounding neighborhoods. and if you get tired of city life, evanston is just an el ride away. loyola also has free on-campus movie nights on wednesdays and fridays throughout the year and they provide free candy too.

    the location of the lake shore campus on lake michigan is wonderful (my dorm room has a view of the lake!) and the el and bus system allow students access to all that chicago has to offer. there is a great mix of ethnic restaurants and a multi-screen movie theater nearby which is much cheaper than most theaters and it has first-run films!

    loyola university is great for students who appreciate the jesuit traditions but you do not have to be catholic; everyone is welcome. loyola students are intelligent and take school/learning/grades seriously; it is not a party school but that does not mean we don't know how to have fun. there are great service opportunities on campus and within the community.

    there are so many clubs and activities - something for everyone. i love being in the green learning community and my involvement in growers guild and other clubs.

    chicago is a large city with big safety challenges - the loyola campus police and local police do a fantastic job ensuring student safety. i have not encountered any problems.

    Am learning a lot

    I'm an International Studies major and Honors student at Loyola. Overall, I've had really good experience with classes so far. Most are very interesting, and I've definitely learned a lot about the world and the international system. Some classes are hit or miss, obviously, but most are really interesting.

    I love this school. I live on the Lake Shore Campus, which is absolutely gorgeous, and the downtown campus is beautiful as well. The students are interesting and diverse, the faculty is helpful, and there are a lot of different classes available. Definitely love it here.

    It's a little pricey, but it's worth it overall. Campus housing is expensive. That's the only thing I'd really complain about, price-wise.

    Apply early! Come to visit, preferably in the earlier fall or later spring, when the weather's nice. When it comes to applying for classes and such, definitely utilize ratemyprofessors.com. A good teacher makes all the difference.

    Great for students interested in a diverse campus in a beautiful city. There are more pre-med kids here than anything else, so, if you're interested in medical school, this is also an excellent pick.

    I absolutely adore this school, i know many people who have attended it previously. From what i was told this school does not mess around when it comes to the academics, its not a party school, and you actually have to study in order to do good.

    Apply early as you are more likely to get more scholarship money. Get the highest ACT score possible to get more money. Lastly, apply for other scholarships within LUC. Even if you don't get it, you are more likely to get a different scholarship because of your interest in the school.

    There are a variety of classes that you can register for; it is just the matter of getting into the ones that you like. Once you get your classes there is where your desire to learn comes. I personally am learning a lot because Loyola makes the students explore all sorts of classes like theology, philosophy, and sociology. Many classes are difficult but you become a academically smarter because you are challenging yourself.

    At first I absolutely hated the school because there was not a football team and it was not a typical college where there are parties all the time. But, if you are the kind of person who is not into that kind of stuff this school is meant for you. It is academic based and there are not distractions at this school. For those who enjoy to be out and about Loyola is only 20 minutes away by CTA from Chicago and there is so much to do.

    Loyola is very expensive but it is very easy to get a job around the area or on campus because our school offers a website that shows you prospective employees. Also, if you get involved in programs that offer scholarships that can be very helpful.

    The first semester of freshman year is very difficult because we are not use to eating food from dinning halls or going to classes at different times.
    Although one thing I would say is that explore Loyola, the community and Chicago., but make sure to concentrate and work hard on your studies.

    The nursing program is a rigorous program that will teach you more in four years than you ever thought possible. The amount you are expected to learn can be overwhelming at times, but you become very well prepared for whatever you may face in your clinicals.

    I love being at Loyola. Even though I am in one of the most difficult programs at the school, the atmosphere gives you the feeling of being in the city, but still has the feeling of a campus. Especially in majors such as nursing and education, you will find yourself feeling like a family with the people in your major, which really makes for an enjoyable college experience.

    Loyola's tuition is incredibly high for majors that you can get for much cheaper at other schools. However, I love Loyola so much that it really doesn't bother me that I'm going to such an expensive school.

    Get involved. Loyola has a lot of unique people, and if you are doing things you love you will most definitely find people who are like you. If you are in a science based major, be prepared to work very hard, with a lot of studying. The Jesuit education is extremely underrated, and hard work is something the university really supports, which is shown strongly in the science based majors.

    Nursing majors. If you can get into the nursing program, come to Loyola. A direct entry program is absolutely the way to go, and although it will be incredibly hard, it will all be worth it in the end. I would tell all prospective nurses to come to Loyola if possible!

    LUC is a good school for students who want to receive a well-rounded education. Students are required to take classes in the CORE curriculum that are not related to their major. Some CORE areas include ethics, religion, justice, and civic engagement.

    The food on campus is not necessarily the best. The other students are very nice. The gym is very nice. There are multiple beaches less than a mile from campus, and the view of Lake Michigan from the Information Commons is beautiful.

    Loyola is a great school to attend for people who are sure about what they want to major in. It has an outstanding pre-med program, but the classes are though so be ready to work hard towards your dreams. The faculty members are very helpful and if you need help with anything just ask your teacher, they will meet with you to answer questions you might have.

    Loyola is located in a place where it is easy to get around the city. Gives you a chance to explore Chicago and attend events in which you are interested. The dorm food is not the best, but at least there are places to go to near campus. Meeting new people as a freshman is pretty easy, because of all the floor activities which the RAs organize. The students I came across were all really nice, helpful and friendly.

    It is a very expensive school, but if you want a nice education it is a price you have to pay. Apply early, that way the chance of winning a scholarship is higher. Also, apply for FAFSA as soon as you can, because all that money runs out as well.

    If you want a quiet place to study go to the third floor in the Information Commons building, or reserve a study room. Also, manage your time wisely. Do homework and studying before you do other thing, or you will be up all night trying to get it all done.

    It is a great school for dedicated students who enjoy being in the city. Also it is a Jesuit institution so if religion is a big part of your life, Loyola is the place for you!
