Modesto Junior College provides an exceptional platform to help excel you towards your future goals. Their teachers and staff are open and understanding and enjoy extending their knowledge to students of all ages. The classes range in size and academic level, and the many varying subjects allow anyone to achieve a better future.

    Tips for prospective students

When considering this college, keep in mind that anyone can come here. If you do choose to attend, be sure to keep yourself motivated by attending a guidance class and stick to your plan. There are also many clubs to join to keep this fast paced lifestyle fun and enjoyable.

    Academic Rigor

The staff adheres to California's educational standards, and are comfortable and cohesive. The classes are easily scheduled and are more laid back than most universities. The graduation rate however is 17%, but if you stick to your plan you are more than likely to achieve 100% of your goals.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately, there are no associated dorm rooms or apartments for students. There are many inexpensive rental homes and apartments nearby, as well as easily accessible transportation routes to get you from campus to campus.

    Food and Dining

The college is split into two campuses. Each campus provides helpful service and great food at their cafeteria, including healthy snacks, candy, chips, sodas, salads, sandwiches, and even a chef for some finer solutions. The East Campus always has access to a taco truck, that stays parked across the street; friendly service and a great price.

    What to do for fun

There are several clubs that take trips and build fundraising activities. There are often barbecues and events taking place in the quad. Also, there are many places around town to go to for fun, and many places like Barnes and Noble, or Queen Bean for entertainment or out of school study sessions.

    Bang for the buck

If you want to get more bang for your buck, be sure to push yourself more with each semester. While tuition rises, it is up to you to work to your own advantage. Be sure to apply for financial aid every year, as it helps for tuition, books, room and even more.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Modesto Junior College has many fun and exciting events, including sports, theater, public speakers, and club events. The new science building will feature a life-size Saber Tooth Cat skeleton hanging from the ceiling in honor of our state fossil. Both of our campuses have great architectural buildings and monuments, including an art gallery and murals.

Great for these types of students

Great for students wishing to prepare for a more vigorous college experience. If you need to raise your GPA, or just get the same education at a cheaper price, community college is the way to go. Modesto has a great campus, and has been around for many years.

    Clubs and Activities

From student government to sports, you can find any club to suit your need. I currently enjoy the rigorous Geology field-studies, in which our club travels all over the western front to camp and learn about geologic movement.

    Greek Life

There are a few different clubs and student housing establishments towards the Greek life at our school.

    Campus Safety

There are several campus parking lots that are constantly monitored by security. The school provides escorts for those that don't want to walk alone to their car at nighttime. They even provide help for students that have car problems while on campus.

good transition school to prepare you for university studies or getting a job. most teachers are exceptional and want to help you succeed. very relaxed, open campus with plenty of places to hang out.

    Tips for prospective students

sign up for classes as soon as possible after receiving your sign-up date--classes go fast! buy a parking pass; it's cheaper and faster than buying a one-day pass each time you need to park.

    Academic Rigor

most classes are harder than high school work, but not too challenging that you can't make a's. as long as you actually read your textbooks and do the assignments, you'll be fine. the best advice i can give is to talk to your teachers, they will help you out if you let them know that you need it!

    Dorm Life

    no dorms on campus

    Food and Dining

the student center houses the cafeteria on east campus and has a wide range of food. the prices are a little high, but for the most part, decent. there are several restaurants within 15 minutes of the school, so you have lots of options.

    What to do for fun

mjc is really good about offering a lot of free events, like documentary screenings, speakers, and musical performances. we have an active drama department that puts on plays and musicals each year. several clubs, such as honor society and student government host events throughout the year. always something going on!

    Bang for the buck

very good class diversity and level of education for the unit cost. you can get 60 transferable undergraduate units done for about 1/10 the cost of a university. parking pass is only $20 a semester and there are only about $50 or so other student fees (health fee, etc.).

Great for these types of students

anyone! very welcoming atmosphere for people from all walks of life. there are several classes for community members who want to learn skills or take a pe class in addition to the regular classes.

    Clubs and Activities

fairly large variety of clubs. we have student government, honors society, foreign students, and many others that are active on campus.

    Greek Life

alpha gamma sigma honors society is the only greek thing at mjc, but it's an excellent club to join.

    Campus Safety

the security guards themselves are awesome, always willing to help out. however, we have had car thefts from parking lots (about 10 cars a year). you can get an escort to your car if you have night classes and security regularly drives through the parking lots.

modesto junior college is for people; who, can't afford universities and if pretty inexpensive. this college gives you what you pay for and that is counselors; that, hardly help the students. also, students; who, usually get lost in the shuffle.

    Tips for prospective students

go to counselors more; than, once a semester, since they don't help as much. mostly a person will wait 3 hours for a counselor and still not end up with a great counselor.

    Academic Rigor

some of the professors are very good teachers i will not lie. this is why a person should check with other students or online aid before selecting a professor for a class.

    Dorm Life

no dorms are at this campus, since this is a 2 year community college.

    Food and Dining

the food and dining is not the worst. i would say the food and dining is average just about any

    What to do for fun

this is not a place for fun this is just mostly for classes and to leave. the way a person can have fun is joining sports like high schools are.

    Did learn a lot

Had some of the best teachers here!

    Bang for the buck

Cost per unit was very reasonable!

    Tips for prospective students

Classes are always extremely full, so my tip is that you think carefully about the classes you need to take before you register. Do not take up space in classes that you do not need, because you may be keeping someone who really needs that class from getting in.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to get their general education done in a quick and cost efficient manner.

Modesto Junior College has a nice campus. It is hard to keep focused at Modesto Junior College. Most students here do not know what they want to do in life.

    No dorms.

    Food and Dining

    Food is okay, getting better.

There are some great instructors, and they are really willing to help you and easy to follow, but the whole school's system might frustrate students. School is a bit small with huge number of students. I believe this school should rated somewhere between ok and good.

    Tips for prospective students

there are huge number of students drop out very quickly and easily, so do not be afraid to be on waitinglist and try to get into that class. classes can be hard based on the instructor, so it is also important to make a wise decision to take classes.

    Academic Rigor

it is about ok. it is not super strict school. It is located in the central valley, so what can we expect? it's relaxing here. lol

    Dorm Life

    No Dorm! lol sucks.

    Food and Dining

food is ok. it is not good but not bad either.

    What to do for fun

there is nothing fun from the school

The college is great for those who cannot afford colleges that are too expensive. It is accessible to almost anyone, because the college accepts almost anyone, and anyone can have a chance at success. Sometimes it may be difficult to find room for your classes due to overcrowding.

    Tips for prospective students

Sign up for classes ASAP, do not fall behind on finding and acquiring classes.
Pay attention and do not goof off.

    Academic Rigor

The school is very old, but it has been remodeled and updated, so some sides of the school are old but some are new.
New buildings are being built constantly

    Dorm Life

I cannot say because I don't live on Campus and I believe you can't here.

    Food and Dining

The food is average, there a number of choices, there is a Starbucks in the cafeteria, and the food in the cafeteria is mostly greasy food but there are alternative choices available such as salads and fruits.

    What to do for fun

There are many activities and even more so, clubs all around.
There is a gym, a large pool, track, fields, baseball and basketball ones, tennis courts and probably more.

It definitely saves you money going here before a 4-year institution. The biggest concern is getting into core classes. Overall, it's not as horrible as people make it out to be.

    Tips for prospective students

Determine your major as soon as possible. The sooner you do that, the sooner you can contact your transfer schools so you know exactly what courses they will/won't accept. Don't get distracted; if you really want to get out of there in 2 years, it is possible only if you keep focused.

    Academic Rigor

Most professors are pretty easy. My first year was probably loaded with the most work because I took English both semesters; however, there are tough ones out there. Most of the professors I took were pretty helpful whenever I had any questions about the material.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms; community college.

    Food and Dining

The food isn't bad. The only unfortunate matter is that most of it is fast food, and the salads cost more than any of the unhealthy stuff (burgers, fries, etc.).

    What to do for fun

There's almost always something fun to do in the quad. Usually clubs have stands for food or music playing.

    Bang for the buck

With a price of $46/unit, it is still a better option than going straight to a 4 year university.

MJC is the path to acceleration, the counselors set you on the right path to your goal. The teachers are personable, and you are not just a number to them. The best thing about MJC is the students, and being able to collaborate together.

    Tips for prospective students

When a prospective student applies to MJC, make an appointment with a counselor, to get the right information, the internet can be misleading. Make sure to ask what specific classes are needed, do not try to assume, you will waste money and time. Take advantage of the BOG Fee Waiver, it helps with kids who may not qualify for grants, but dont have money for college.

    Academic Rigor

The academic field is huge, and challenging. When challenging is stated, I do not mean to hard, but pushes you to see what you can do, and what you are capable of learning. The teachers and students will help, but you have to ask.

    Dorm Life

There is not a dorm life at MJC. This is nice because it keeps the partying off campus, and keeps the focus on school.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining in the cafeteria and surrounding areas are amazing. There is a sandwich shop on Tully Road that is to die for. It is called At Home Gourmet.

    What to do for fun

There are always activities to do for fun from sports to theater to speech. Every aspect of someone's interest is either covered in a club or class.

Great for these types of students

MJC is great for students who are hard working and motivated to get their AA or AS degree.

The teachers I have met are very passionate about what they teach which clearly reflects on their teaching and helps you understand a subject a lot better. I put what I learn and use it often in my daily lifestyle. I have even thought about changing my major because of a certain cultural anthropology teacher.

    Am enjoying being here

Once again the professors are very passionate and make you enjoy what you're learning even if you weren't interested in the subject in the first place. The campus is clean and there is a lot of student activity. They have convenient free shuttles that will take you from one campus location to the next and comes every 10 to 15 minutes.

They urge you to sign up for financial aid and fee waivers. When they have an event going on they make a lot of announcements such as cram night at libraries and the teachers really reach out to you if you have ANY questions and urge you to ask them.

    Am learning a lot

My learning experience has been a great one so far. I leave each class with a new topic to think about, and create my own philosophy on the subject.

    Am enjoying being here

I wish that there were an easier way to get from class to class. This community college is split into two campuses, so sometimes its tricky getting from one class to the next. It does, however, provide shuttle busses from each campus, so if you want you only park once, and shuttle to your next class on the other campus.

    Bang for the buck

They really help out with fee waivers, and prices of other services. The resources they provide such as tutoring, cram night at the library, as well as help from indivdual teachers makes it easy for you to get help in the subject you need.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, I advise you to make an academic plan. Knowing which classes and having LOTS of schedule options is a big help. You will most likely not get your first choice of classes on your first registration, so be sure to have many classes lined up so you don't waste time or money. Also be sure to buy the catalogue for your year, the year you begin. Requirements for graduation or transfer may change, but if you get any trouble its good to know that they must hold you accountable only for requirements of the year you began.

Great for these types of students

Great for athletes, lots of sports to participate in.
Great for child development mrs. Mrs. Williams-Jackson is awesome. She knows her stuff, and is always willing to review grades and offer help.
    Great for low budget students
