I am learning a lot it PSC. I am actually learning things that i should learned in high school. The teachers are very patient. I recommend this school.

    Am enjoying being here

I like the school and all. but everybody is doing something. I don't really have friends. I am pretty much by myself, but then again I am not a bubbly person that just go up to people. Other than that PSC is a enjoyable place.

    Will learn a lot

No I won't because their processing of students takes two years! Just to get all their financial aid situated is delaying me this long! I'm going to Valencia instead!

    Will enjoy being here

They have nice grounds but their just not coordinated to be able for me to get enrolled into classes. I've already missed two semesters of classes because they won't keep up with my Pel-grant application. And I was already approved for a $5,000.00 grant which would have been more than enough to pay for books and tuition.

    Bang for the buck

They are cheap but now I'm starting to know why. They can't enroll anyone due to their financial aid lackeys.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't go here. Unless you have two years to wait to go to school or you have people on the inside to speed things up.

Great for these types of students

People with time on their hands.

Polk State College is a nice small college with mainly 2 year degree programs and a limited amount of 4 year degree programs. There are 2 main campuses and 2 smaller campuses. This school is a great choice to save money and go to school locally without having to pay 4 year university tuition prices.

    Tips for prospective students

Arrive to class early because parking is horrendous most of the day.
Even thought it is mainly a 2 year college still take it seriously.

A college devoid of any assistance whatsoever. They do not return phone calls, do not let you know when they need additional information, and will cause you unneeded frustration. I would not recommend this college to my worst enemy.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not waste your time here. Their advisors are poorly trained, do not even know what types of honors courses they have, don't process paperwork correctly, never answer their phones, and never return phone calls when you leave messages. Their financial aid department is even worse, and will ruin your chances of any financial help out of laziness and lack of expertise in their field.

    Academic Rigor

They offer hardly any honors courses. The most challenging issue regarding their academics is to even find out what they offer, because their website doesn't provide information on your major when pursuing an AA towards a bachelors.

    Dorm Life

Dorms don't exist on this campus, so can't rate anything above one star.

    Food and Dining

From the five students I've talked to while trying to get started at the college, they all suggested I stay away from the cafeteria.

    What to do for fun

I have no idea, because all my time was spent going through hassles of checking with advisors to make sure they were doing their job right, and jumping through endless hoops for them.

    Bang for the buck

This school couldn't pay me to go to it anymore. After how much of a hassle they've put me through, I am now enrolling in a different college that is much more professional, knowledgeable, answers their phones, and returns calls as necessary in a very timely manner.

Great for these types of students

If you want to self-mutilate, this is the college for you.

    Clubs and Activities

I tried contacting them in the beginning of my enrollment. I wanted to help in activities and really be a part of the school. Of the three messages I left over three weeks, not one single message was returned.

    Campus Safety

All I'm going to say is there have been two bomb threats in the dozen or so times I had to repeatedly stop by to drop off more and more paperwork. With how horrible this school treats prospective students, I couldn't blame someone one bit for wanting to blow it up.

A great way to decide if college life is going to work for you. Most of the teachers are very laid back, but there are also quite a few bad apples who could care a less if you succeed or not.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask questions.

    What to do for fun

It's in Polk County, not a whole lot to do for fun. There is a student activity center in the cafeteria.

    Bang for the buck

Pretty cheap as far as education goes. Most of the teachers are helpful.

Polk State College is like many other 2 year colleges, everyone is there for business. They do, however, have some activities to get students involved in their school. Most of the professors there are helpful and they seem like they really want their students to understand the information being taught.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not buy books from the book store, find out the names of the books you need and find them online, it will be much cheaper.

    Academic Rigor

The work depends on the professor, some give you so much work that it feels like all you're ever doing is homework; while others give you no homework at all and your grade is simply test based.

    Dorm Life

Since it is a two year school, there are no dorms.

    Food and Dining

There is also no dining hall.

    What to do for fun

the class sizes are similar to what you experience in high school, and teachers are very adamant about offering their assistance. the school does whatever it can to supply you with the resources you will need. however, class options can be limited.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you sign up for classes as soon as possible, because they go quick. don't buy the book for the class until you talk to the professor, often the professor doesn't have you use the text book, with the exception of math classes.

    Academic Rigor

you control the rigor yourself when you choose classes. you can take either the easy classes, or the challenging ones. but the requirements are never out of proportions.

    Food and Dining

It is ok. There are great teachers, but crappy staff in the main office. Most of the advisors do not seem to care.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you stay on top of the enrollment process and financial aid stuff. They will take their sweet time doing their job. Watch out for possible variables that could postpone your enrollment involving the financial aid department or your orientation.

    Academic Rigor

    Am enjoying being here

The Lakeland campus for PSC hosts a varied age range of students; however the majority of students are high school juniors and seniors, college freshman and soon-to-be program graduates. Recent remodeling and additions to the campus buildings have improved the campus facilities. This campus is also relatively small, keeping all buildings within walking distance. The grounds are well maintained as well as the interiors of all facilities. Tutors are included in your tuition, so you do not pay extra out-of-pocket expenses to utilize their services. The student activities board is very active and the athletic department is ranked nationally.

    Bang for the buck

Public high school students who enroll in the collegiate high school receive full tuition for classes and course materials from the college. Dual-enrolled high school students receive full class tuition but are expected to pay for course materials. The latter is also only allowed to apply for 9 credit hours per semester, as they are expected to make up the rest of their high school credits (per semester) through their high school of choice, be it public or home school affiliated.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest researching and investigating your career interests. As a high school graduate be ready to declare your major shortly after your first semester so that you don't spend wasted time and money on credits that your degree, combined with the college grad. requirements and possible university applications, won't count.

Great for these types of students

High school attendees, college freshmen who seek an A.A. or A.S. as their highest level of education but want to feed right into a program, and students who seek preparation for a university.
