Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am definitely learning all I need and it is great. I was at first hesitant about going to a community college for the first year but I soon found out that that is not at all a problem. I thought classes at a University would be more informative and a better experience. Starting at a community college, especially PCC, is a great idea.
Am enjoying being here I don't have a computer so I do believe I am here a bit too much, but at the same time I am very happy that they have a computer center I can go to to get my work done.
Bang for the buck This is effeminately a great way to save so much money. Portland Community College is a low spending college that still offers good schooling.
Tips for prospective students If you do plan on attending PCC, try to do everything as soon as you can. The earlier you get things in the better. You will have less stress about those things and you will quickly be ready for the next. Also, if you are not computer savvy get use to one. They do a lot of things online, which in the long run is good.
Great for these types of students Portland Community College is really good for all students. If you have a schedule to work around, they can work with it; if you don't have a computer, they can help; if you plan to transfer to a University, they can easily help you transfer and still save you tons of money. You can range from any age too, high school (duel-in-roll), fresh out of high school, working man/woman, mother, father, etc.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot My major is Mechanical Engineering so i need hands on classes and so far the school has provided me with that.
Am enjoying being here I like the atmosphere of the school. It's like highschool without restrictions and the people that are there actually want to learn so i feel more like i can do what i need to do to be successful in my classes without someone making fun of me because i actually care about my education.
Bang for the buck For how low the price is of community college compared to a university, i feel like i get the right amount of attention because the classes are small just like in highschool and i ask questions a lot so that's good for me to still be able to.
Tips for prospective students if you are wanting to do a bachelors or higher in a study of your choice best way to do it is transfer credits over after you've been at pcc. The counselors will help you with your term schedule so you can make sure your taking classes that are going to transfer to you university of choice... USE YOUR RESOURCES THE SCHOOL GIVES YOU! you save money in the end. University for 13 credits= approx 5,000... pcc for 13= approx 2.000. it's also smart if your coming from highschool straight into college because if you go to a university first you most likely won't be ready because they teach at 300 level...aka HARD... pcc you can start in the 10's then go up from there. They're super flexible.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors at PCC are just as qualified to teach at a community college as they are at a university. A lot of them simply choose to be in a less restricted work environment than a university. PCC also offers a fantastic variety of classes so you will not be stuck in a class you do not like.
Am enjoying being here PCC has made it so easy to attend. The campuses are lovely. They are also pretty clean and have all the resources a student will need. You also get $10 every term to use in the computer labs for printing materials (it's like 5 cents a page).
Bang for the buck If you are looking to go to college in a 100 mile radius of Portland,OR, go to PCC. It costs almost half of what Portland State University costs. The universities also have hidden fees and if you are living in a dorm, forget about it. You will be paying a year's tuition at the university just to live at the university.
Tips for prospective students Know your options. Apply for as many scholarships as possible and start early. Start when you are a sophomore in high school. Decide how you will get to school (ie: public transit, bike, car, PCC shuttle). Get your textbooks before the term starts so you can get used ones.
Great for these types of students PCC does have a lot of returning students who were in the workforce for 3, 5, 10 years, and are now going back to school. But you'd be surprised by how many recent high school graduates attend PCC as well! PCC has a mixture of people of different ethnicity's, ages, genders, and backgrounds.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here at PCC are very knowledgeable about the subject at hand. They are always there for their students with helpful answers and want each student to succeed.
Am enjoying being here I love each campus at PCC. They are four main campuses serving the metro area, along with several other centers, so it is easy to for anyone living in and around Portland. They are tons of clubs and activities you can join - something for everyone.
Bang for the buck Most of the teachers teach at Portland State University as well, so we have the same instructors teaching our classes at a much lower cost. Any science instructor I've had, has their PhD and has done a lot of research on their field of study - so they know a lot!
Tips for prospective students Put your admissions application in early, always check on financial aide. They are a lot of students who attend PCC and admissions rate goes up every year. If there is ever something you are unsure of, don't hesitate to ask, any staff member would be gladly to assist - they always have a smile on their face whenever I ask questions.
Great for these types of students Students who are unsure about what major they want to focus on, Students looking to obtain an associates degree, Students looking to transfer to a 4-year college.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences it is a really great school for students who have taken some time off after high school and want to take things slow. the campus's are beautiful and there are a lot of helpful staff there for people who are new to the college experience. overall this pcc has done a great job getting me back on my feet and into the college world smoothly.
Tips for prospective students make sure to speak with advisors frequently, they are there to help you.
Academic Rigor there have been some very hard classes and some not so hard ones, it kind of depends on the professor that you get, but mostly they just want you to learn.
Dorm Life there are no dorms at pcc that i know of.
Food and Dining i have not been too impressed with the food there, all though it is cheap!
What to do for fun i don't participate in many activities on campus, mostly i just go to my classes.
Bang for the buck this is a fairly cheap college, so far i have gotten by without taking out any loans.
Great for these types of students great for students who want to get in and learn, and not live on campus. i don't spend too much time there outside of school.
Clubs and Activities the clubs at pcc are very active, they are constantly standing in the cafeteria area trying to talk to people walking by. if you are the type to want to be involved in a club, this is a great place to go!
Campus Safety i have felt completely safe on this campus!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i am currently enrolled in the paralegal program at this community college. the sole reason i chose this school is because the american bar association endorses this school, and it is one of only two in oregon. i am challenged by their paralegal program and anticipate learning a lot in the year that i will be attending.
Tips for prospective students you need to chose your prospective school wisely. already having a bachelor's degree, i did hours of research to find the correct school that matched my needs, and portland community college has a terrific reputation in the paralegal field, the one i have chosen.
Academic Rigor already having a four year college experience, i have been challenged extensively at portland community college and i think that it will continue to challenge me.
Food and Dining i only attend the cascade campus, but the cafeteria is of poor standard and i usually plan ahead if i want to eat while on campus.
What to do for fun enjoy your life while on campus. get to know the people and advisers in your particular degree or program. this is a very important part of college life. if they know you, you will have easy access and success in the program.
Bang for the buck portland community college's paralegal program is certified and endorsed by the american bar association, only one of two in oregon. the other institution costs nearly four times the amount.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the cascade campus is located in one of the most dangerous parts of portland (crime-wise), however, if you stay on campus it is very safe.
Great for these types of students paralegal students with current degrees (bs, ba, ms, ma) are the main collection of students.
Clubs and Activities have not found any.
Campus Safety stay on campus. even crossing the street off campus leads you into one of the most crime-ridden areas of the portland metro area.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences PCC is a great college that I would recommend for anyone. The classes are taught by professors that try very hard to help you learn and succeed, the class sizes are small so paying attention is easier, and you are surrounded by people who are motivated and want to get their degrees out of the way so they can move on to a university. Its a very positive place full of great resources to help you grow and achieve higher education.
Tips for prospective students Come to PCC before attending a university. It is cheaper and the education is just as good, or maybe even better. The only negative aspect is parking, so be prepared to either shuttle or take the bus, because parking can be a nightmare. I would also recommend that students try to form study groups with classmates, it seems that other students at PCC are very motivated to get out so they are eager to learn from one another.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging depending on which classes and who the professor is, and amount of workload. Taking a full 12 credit term, is challenging and keeps me on my toes. I feel that the classes are designed so you really do have to stay on top of your business so you don't fall behind. If you do what you're supposed to do you will succeed, as easy as that sounds.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life available for Portland Community College.
Food and Dining I enjoy the cafeteria quite a bit, seems like there is a bit of everything. They have burgers, Asian food, Hispanic foods, as well as snacks. They provide lots of nutritious meals which make me happy as well as their variety of beverages. However this is a community college so don't expect gourmet food.
What to do for fun Portland Community College Sylvania campus is about 15 minutes away from downtown Portland, so there is plenty to do down there. As for the school, there are lots of clubs one can join, theres a gym thats open for students to use, as well as a swimming pool. The school is surrounded by little coffee shops and asian restaurants so plenty of food to eat.
Bang for the buck For the price you pay, I feel that PCC provides the same education as big universities for a fraction of the price. Especially for students going to a 4 year, the first two years can be done at a community college and they transfer just fine, and you save so much more money.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This school is an excellent way to learn with a broad areas to major in. It also is affordable some classes have tutoring specific to that class. I like being able to enjoy school activities and the fact I can meet people with simular interest. A+
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to ask for help if your having trouble or have questions, people here are quick to help you and you will fit right in.
Academic Rigor The instructors are quick to help you and are willing to take time out of their busy schedule to help you.
Dorm Life No dorms at PCC.
Food and Dining excellent atmosphere, food taste great, and they have meal deals. Cascade campus is the best to have food at.
Clubs and Activities They have various clubs and activities there are just too many to list. One club they have and which I am in is called Fostering Success. Fostering Success is there for people that need help with financial aid and or scholarships. This is aimed towards youth that were previously in fostercare.
Campus Safety The campus is very safe and campus security is quick to respond if something does go down.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences pcc is cheap, easy to understand, and gets you on the right path. it is a great foundation before transferring, and saves you money instead of beginning at a 4-year. the teachers are knowledgeable, and willing to go the distance to help you get where you need.
Tips for prospective students ask for help. they have a fantastic student help and counseling department that gets you the info you need.
Academic Rigor teachers from the local university come teach here as well. most beginning classes are easy, but gives you a great foundation for any career you start.
Dorm Life no dorms, but the city is bustling with activity around the campus. easy to find campus, and variety of
Food and Dining the cafeteria has improved since previous terms, and provides many options to a hungry student. healthy alternatives have been implemented to give students the nutrition they need, but it comes at an elevated cost.
What to do for fun the campus is open, so weather provided, walk around. there is a great variety of classes to choose for leisure, including dance, jujitsu, and yoga. when in between classes, the highway is close by, so you may get to any destination quickly.
Bang for the buck cost effective compared to local universities. teachers often teach here as well as the local universities, so you are getting the same education for cheaper.
Great for these types of students beginning students.
Clubs and Activities many different clubs to choose from. i was in a few, but some are more active than others.
Campus Safety very secure, and always around. i knock one star off, because i lost my wallet one time in between classes that left a bad taste in my mouth. i was required to wait quite some time to get it returned, even though i was able to provide every piece of information in it. being an avid shopper, i memorized every cc number, and even that was not enough evidence the wallet was mine, let alone it containing my driver's picture where! it took two police officers to verify, and i ended up missing a class because of it. i was not happy.

Am enjoying being here the teachers are really nice and the class forums to communicate with the rest of the class is really helpful
Bang for the buck Im learning so much that i feel that every penny has bee so well spent
Tips for prospective students for online students its important to have a good and quiet work environment when reading class assignments for the week. also for ebook readers its alot easier to use control F to search for the answers but trust me it doesnt help, u miss important filler information... so dont do it!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers are very passionate about their jobs and it makes learning a whole lot easier. You can tell that they really put a big effort into teaching.
Am enjoying being here I've never felt more comfortable or safe anywhere else. Portland is kind of a weird place, so it's alright to be different here. It's practically normal, really.
Bang for the buck Everybody is hurting these days, but PCC offers courses at a much better price than other places. Sure, it's just a community college, but my pocket likes it too.
Tips for prospective students Be serious. This is a place where you will succeed only if you choose to. Failure is the easiest task accomplished, but succeeding is a whole lot harder.
Don't be afraid to speak up or ask questions; PCC is probably one of the friendliest places I've ever gone to.Great for these types of students For students who need a comfortable, helpful environment. Works perfectly for early college students trying to figure out the whole college thing, as well as for people coming back to school. Great for most people, all around.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I'm learning a good deal. Most of the instructors are pretty good about making resources available to students online, such as PowerPoint slides of their lectures, online reading materials for class and links to various helpful websites. There isn't a lot in the way of assignments for some classes, however; mostly a project or two, as well as some exams. This may not bode well for people who find small-but-frequent exercises useful.
Am enjoying being here I can't say anything about the Rock Creek or Cascade campuses, having never set foot on them, but I can say that the Sylvania campus is quite lovely. They seem to have an affinity for concrete, but it's still pretty nice. The library at Sylvania is quite large, as is the College Center. The Southeast center isn't as impressive, but it's in a very convenient place; if you were attending any of the local high schools, you'll have no problem whatsoever getting to Southeast everyday.
Bang for the buck At $79 per credit, it's not bad. That's par for the course with a community college, after all. You'll find that there are plenty of resources available to students who need them. In addition, there is a free shuttle that takes students from one campus to another (certain lines only go between certain campuses), which runs pretty well with most class schedules.
Tips for prospective students Most importantly, you'll need to make sure that you apply for classes as early as possible, lest all of your desired classes fill up.
Great for these types of students Any student of any age, really. It's best for people who don't want to spend a lot of money taking classes at universities.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I imagine that PCC is like most community colleges. They are here for a reason. You have options here and community colleges are designed to get you acclimated or re-acclimated to college life. it is a great start.
Will enjoy being here Anyone who doesnt enjoy being in Oregon in the first place is just silly. I come from hell in the flesh, I can't wait to move back here. Ive driven by the college before but have not had the chance to check it out. I applied but am waiting for my transcripts to go through. I'm sure that I will enjoy my experience.
Bang for the buck PCC is definitely affordable compared to others. The out-of-state tuition is not as bad as I had imagined. I will definitely still be applying for scholarships!
Tips for prospective students I am a prospective student myself. I would tell others to make sure your heart is in it. If it doesn't seem or feel right to you, don't waste your time. Search search search and keep on searching. Do your homework and make sure to apply for any scholarships you can. Ask all the questions you can think of, even if it seems stupid to you. Leave no stone unturned and document everything! Good Luck!
Great for these types of students Everyone. I am a 30 year old hispanic, single mother of 3, starting my own business and I homeschool my own children. This school will be great for any person of any age, race, religion, color, etc... I am returning to college after 7 years! It's almost like my first time. I can't wait!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences At PCC, you definitely get out what you put it. It is a large school with four to five different campuses across town, so no one will really go up to you and offer help. Everyone is there for their own personal interest, if you do make an effort there are great resources though.
Tips for prospective students For the first term do not be afraid to ask questions. Coming from high school all the new information and expectations can be utterly overwhelming.
Academic Rigor Do your research of the instructors. The academic rigor can also varie depending on the level. 200 level classes tend to be as challenging as university courses.
Dorm Life This does not apply to this exclusive commuter college.
Food and Dining There are options, but pretty expensive. I do not recommend the fried food.
What to do for fun Joining a club can be supper fun!
Bang for the buck The libraries are very great resources for all students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Check out the Student Underground!
Great for these types of students It's great for various students. PCC can fulfil students that seek challenging, thought provoking classes in the 200 level courses, and I've heard story about how simple some lower level classes can be.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of interesting clubs for students to join. Recruiting people seems to always be a challenge though.
Greek Life Greek life is not applicable.
Campus Safety The campuses are very safe; public safety is always visible. There are a lot of trees, and it's tobacco free!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Portland Community College is a great choice for those returning to school. Classes are not too difficult and they offer a multitude of classes online. The libraries are second to none.
Tips for prospective students Don't expect to much help from staff (e.g counselors, financial aid, career services). Most do not have much more information than is available on the website. Be prepared to be on your own as far as financial aid and degree counseling.
Academic Rigor Classes are fairly easy, about what you would expect from a community college. The coursework in most instances is acceptable for working adults.
Dorm Life PCC has no dorms
Food and Dining Food at PCC is definitely above par. This being Portland there are plenty of great options for vegans and vegetarians.
Bang for the buck PCC is above all a great value. Most credits transfer easily to other institutions in Oregon.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences PCC is a good college, but like any school it has a few issues. They have excellent resources to help students. The overall cost of attendance is much lower than any of the other schools in the area.
Tips for prospective students Talk to other students about their experiences, instructors and classes.
Utilize all the resources that PCC has to offer.
Attend your classes and don't be afraid to participate.
Be active in clubs and organizations, if you have the time. The students you meet there will help you and you have a chance to help others as well.Academic Rigor Just like any other school, there are some good classes and there are some bad ones. Some of the classes they are attempting to cram a semesters work of information into a quarter long (11 weeks) class. They need to restructure these classes as the class failure rate is very high. Other classes are just too easy. They are not challenging and don't do the students any good.
Dorm Life PCC has no Dorms.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is not bad. The food is decent, but overpriced.
What to do for fun Join some of the various clubs and participate in the events that are held.
Bang for the buck Thought the per credit cost of classes is low, there are a lot of fees and the cost of books is outrageous.
Clubs and Activities There are some excellent clubs on campus and they hold a variety of events all year long.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It's a great campus and has a lot of clubs and activities which you can sign up for online. The cost is much cheaper than at a 4 year school, and you can sign up as a non-degree student and still take full-time classes. I started attending this college while still in high school, and it's great!
Tips for prospective students When you register for classes, look up your instructor on ratemyprofessors.com to find out how other people who took their class rated them. A lot of times, these ratings provide great tips on how to do well in the class, and you will know a lot more about whether this instructor suits you or not.
Academic Rigor It all depends on the instructor! Always look up the instructor's rating and see how hard their class is. Some make it really hard for you, while others don't.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Food and Dining Cafeteria is okay, but not too many choices.
What to do for fun There are clubs, jobs (if you consider them fun!), student government, and more. Just check out the PCC website to sign up for a club.
Bang for the buck Great! Classes aren't as expensive as in 4 year universities, usually it's about $400 per class. I'd say, pretty good!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Nothing that I know of.
Great for these types of students High school students and non-traditional students! If you are a high school student, YOU can complete an associates degree by the time you graduate from high school! Contact PCC Early college to see what you need to apply, AND they pay for all of your tuition! That's two free years of college for you! Also great for non-traditional students who have to work during the day because PCC has many evening and weekend classes to choose from! I myself was going to high school during the day, and was able to sign up for as much as 14 credits of classes that were on the evenings/weekends. So if you have to work during the day, don't even worry, there are many classes to choose from!
Clubs and Activities Go to the PCC website for information.
Greek Life None that I know of.
Campus Safety I took night classes, and there's always a police car around, so I'd say it's pretty safe, I never had any trouble.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences it is very small but it makes the learning enviorment nice with small classes. the teachers do a pretty good job of teaching a subject with effiency. it is very inexpensive to go here so that is the main reason why i'm here.
Tips for prospective students if you want to save money and just get prerequisite classes out of the way its a very good option. don't expect an elaborate campus because you will not find that here at portland community college. as long as you show up to class you should do fine.
What to do for fun there aren't very many things to do for fun. everyday after class i immediately leave and go to work or home to study. it isn't very easy to have a really fun time while going to portland community college.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i think portland community college is a great community college. with the various locations and ability to take classes both online and on campus, it makes going to college a lot easier. highly recommend this college for students looking into at least a two year college.
Tips for prospective students start out with taking classes on campus. i decided to do all online at first which was a mistake. i would rather be on campus meeting new people and learning in person.
Dorm Life they do not have dorms.
Food and Dining typical cafes at the school. nothing to special but they do serve some good stuff.
What to do for fun there are a lot of people there to start conversations with. also many different classes that you can take that aren't your average classes, and some sports too.
Bang for the buck you defiantly get a lot out of going to a community college. starts you out in smaller classes that are a lot cheaper. also gets you prepared to go to a university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus with the many different cultures there is always an event going on.
Clubs and Activities lots of clubs to choose from. there has to be a club for just about every interest.
Campus Safety although i don't see a security guard all that much, i don't ever hear of anything bad going on.
