    Am learning a lot

Development of Western Civilization, or Civ as we lovingly call it, is the school's crafty way of giving you a rounded education along with their other mandatory classes. While some consider Civ a huge hurdle due to it's amount of work and difficulty, I really do believe it shapes you as a student, and is vital information that makes an educated intellectual. Besides Civ, classes are exciting and there are many to choose from. However, some professors have accents that are hard to understand, and some classes perhaps give too much work.

    Am enjoying being here

As a freshmen, I was worried about the transition - Don't be. Providence makes everything as easy as it can be, and there are plenty of resources (Orientation Leaders, Resident Assistants, ect) that are able to help you. There are plenty of activities on weekends and weeknights, such as trivia nights, bingo (it's a lot more intense than you think... and for prizes!), and group trips to popular restaurants such as the Cheesecake Factory. The college is in an excellent location, and the school itself is beautiful with diverse, interesting students. The Slavin Center is brand new and features a gorgeous gym that overlooks the lawn, as well as the P.C Perk, a hangout spot where you can grab a coffee and relax with friends.

    Bang for the buck

While I do know I'm getting a great education, I fail to see how tuition can be so expensive. If I was not getting financial aid/scholarships, I definitely couldn't afford to go here (and wouldn't). However, I do feel that if you really think something is lacking (in academics, social life, or any matter), and bring it up, the school will do their best to accommodate you. Also, the freshmen meal plan is currently unlimited for the same price as the 19-week-plan. Believe me... THAT is worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Know what you're getting yourself into. Really research the school and it's core ciriculum. If you are REALLY unsure of what you want to do (most are undeclared but have some idea what they want to do, at least major wise), this school may pose a bit of a problem. There are a lot of required classes, which takes away from time to complete the major. However, this is an incredible school that can offer you a unique education and a Catholic perspective. Most importantly, don't forget to visit! That is an absolutely crucial part of the college application process.

Great for these types of students

Motivated, hard-working and eclectic students will thrive at Providence College.

    Tips for prospective students

i would tell students to get involved in some activity associated with the campus that is out of your normal activities. this will help you to meet others and to help yourself to really stretch yourself.

    Academic Rigor

the classes are very difficult and competitive but not impossible. western civ is required for the first 2 years but rally does help you to learn although it is tough as well.

    Dorm Life

there are a great deal of socializing in the dorms. the people are welcoming at providence college. i found that the adjustment to dorm life was hard but very worthwhile. this year i am in campus apartment with three girls from last year. that is a better option for me where we can cook and grocery shop and be independent but still be on campus.

    Food and Dining

there are many options to pick from but i prefer to cook my own meals so i did not get the meal plan this year. i do have pc cash where i can get water soda snacks if i need to.

    What to do for fun

PC focuses a lot of attention on academics and it is very easy to find help. It isn't hard to make friends and the transition isn't difficult. The small student body makes it easy to get help from professors and to get involved.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure the surrounding area is what you are looking for. Also make sure the size of the school is right for you.

    Academic Rigor

Civ can easily help or kill your GPA. Professors differ on how hard they grade but usually science classes demand more time than others.

    Dorm Life

I live in McVinney and the rooms are the size of a jail cell but its located at the center of campus. Ray is all triples but the rooms are bigger and its right above of the dining hall. Meagher is triples with huge rooms but no one really knows about. Dore has all the types of rooms but they are on lower campus and usually most of multicultural people live there (i'm Hispanic and all my friends live there, i wish i did too)

    Food and Dining

Food in Ray sucks. Point blank. They try but they fail most of the time. Breakfast is the best meal and dinner is the worst.

    What to do for fun

House parties almost all Fridays and Saturdays. Bunch of clubs in the city. Other than that you can chill in McPhails which sometimes has events and has a bar for 21+.

    Bang for the buck

Not really. The rooms should be bigger and the food should be better. The tuition is ridiculously high for the basic necessity not to be good.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The basement in the chapel is a really good place to study. It's really quiet plus they have a kitchen and you can cook there anytime.

Great for these types of students

People who love getting involved, party, and like small schools.

    Clubs and Activities

PC has a bunch of different clubs that focus on different things.

    Greek Life

does not exist. But you can join other schools sororities and fraternities.

    Campus Safety

There are a bunch of officers but its an open campus and they don't really check to see whose on it.

Providence College is a great school to attend if you like a small environment. The students are friendly and mostly all of the professors get to know you on a one on one basis. The academics make you a well rounded person and although the core is a bit over the top you gain a lot of knowledge from all different aspects of education.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you are ready to study hard and try to do research to figure out what careers you may be interested in before starting school. Their are a lot of core classes that need to be satisfied, which is attainable, but it does not leave you a lot of leeway.

    Academic Rigor

Providence College students are challenged very much by their courses. It can be very difficult at times, but the professors are always their to help you.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are so much fun to live in. The only issue that most of the students at Providence College have with the dorms is the parietal policy. This means that boys are not allowed in the girls' dorm room after 12 on weekdays and after 2 on weekends. They are very strict with this rule and it makes students feel like they are not free to make their own decisions.

    Food and Dining

The food in Raymond cafeteria is not very good. It is buffet style and they do have good meals every once in a while, but not often. The food in Slavin Hall is pretty good food, but it is not buffet style.

    What to do for fun

Their are plenty of things that you can do for fun at Providence College. It is located in the middle of a city so you do have to be careful when you are walking around without a big group. The Providence Place Mall is very close and has many restaurants, stores, and a huge movie theater. Their are plenty of college bars right near the school and their is even a bar on campus called McPhails. Thayer street is a fun place to go to right near Brown and we have a shuttle that takes us their for free. The RIPTA is a bus that provides free transportation to all Providence College students by swiping our college ID card.

    Bang for the buck

This school is extremely expensive and they ask for more money from you all of the time which is ridiculous.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The civ scream takes place once a year the night before sophomores take their Development of Western Civilization final exam. This class is a core that everyone must take their first two years of school and it is a lot to handle. When you are about to be finished with the class everyone gathers around in a huge circle on the quad and screams at midnight to get all of their frustration out before the final! It is very exciting!

    Greek Life

Their is no Greek life because it is a Catholic school.

    Campus Safety

We do have security guards 24/7, but their are always crime alerts from people walking off campus. The key is to walk in a big group and be careful.
