Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers University is an excellent school because it offers various majors and minors to accommodate every student. Their Pharmacy, Engineering, as well as Business schools are widely acclaimed and their challenging programs drastically prepare you for life beyond college. Nearly every class at school is demanding in order for the student to attain the most knowledge and experience they can but it all comes down to the student. Teachers and Professors are available for extra help beyond classroom time in case one needs additional tutoring. However, if the student does not take the class seriously, then they will miss out on many important lessons both academic as well as life. I found it difficult to adjust in the beginning because I thought classes will be as easy as they were in high school, but I quickly learned that I was very wrong. That is why I labeled it as four stars, the missing star is not the school’s fault- but rather, it is mine. It is mine because I was the one who slacked off in the beginning but I cannot put any of the blame on the school’s curriculum. The classes are very doable but the student needs to put in their one hundred percent. It is better to have a demanding school than an easy and lenient one because it will better prepare you for the future and make you into a more highly educated and highly capable student.
Am enjoying being here Rutgers University is a school in which you are almost guaranteed in finding yourself. With such a large school and vast population, you will find numerous people that are like you and even more students that are very different from you. Due to the very high diversity of people including racially, ethnically, and religiously, every single day at Rutgers is a learning experience about people in general. There are so many different people that it amazes me how everyone can cooperate to make such a big school run efficiently. You will never feel out of place and that is one of the most important reasons that it is so much fun attending Rutgers University. Also, those that are living on campus will experience an even greater form of entertainment because you will gain an irrevocable bond with many of the people in your building that are dissimilar from each other. Late nights, study sessions, going out, are all things you will mostly do with your building that turns into a memory that will last a lifetime. The only thing I do not really enjoy about Rutgers University is the bus system. Since it is such a big school, the only possible way to move from one campus to the other is on busses. Even though they are frequent, sometimes during rush hour, it takes twice as long returning from one campus to another. Sometimes I wish the school campus was smaller and the buildings were closer together so that I could walk from one place to another. Besides the bus system, the school is a very interesting place and I enjoy it fully and believe that anyone else who attends will also feel the same.
Bang for the buck Rutgers University is a highly affordable school for being a widely acclaimed state school. Tuition ranges nearly around $10,000 which when compared to many other schools, seems to be one of the main factors in why students attend this school. For the many resources provided, such as nearly 5 grand libraries, it seems as if we are allowed to get more than what we paid for. The only downside of Rutgers University is that course books and accessories needed are very expensive. You spend nearly $300-$500 a semester on course texts. However, the tuition is very affordable and according to many other friends, the school provides many scholarships. It also allows many loans to be taken out to pay for schooling because that is one of the most convenient ways to temporarily pay for college. Use the resources provided to its full potential and you will realize that we are getting more than what we paid for.
Tips for prospective students One of the most important tips anyone can give is to wait to buy your text books until class has started. Try to check online websites that offer cheaper prices for books or find students that have taken that class to see if you can either borrow the book or pay a small price to keep the books. If you buy it from the bookstore right away, you will be guaranteed spending nearly $500 when you could have nearly saved $100 to $200. Go to class for the first couple times to see if you even use the book. Another very important advice I can give is to purchase the smallest amount of dining hall plans possible (210 for freshman) because most people still have 30-50 meals left at the end of the semester. This is especially for the students who go home on most weekends. If you do run out, there is the possibility of purchasing more but if you purchase more, you can not refund on what’s left. Also, one of the three biggest tips I attained when I went to school is: GET HELP! Attend office hours (which are outside classroom time with professors or aids) if you need clarification or extra practice. This is the best way to understand the material better because it is one of your only chances of one on one time with the professor. Most classes at Rutgers range from 200-400 students so take advantage of any office hours provided. In general, this is a great school and students will have a lot of fun as well as attain a lot of knowledge.
Great for these types of students Rutgers University is great for many types of people from various education backgrounds to even different personality types. As I had mentioned previously, the school accommodates almost every type of student there is. This school will be more beneficial to those students who can learn in a large classroom setting since some classes range from 200-400 people and some science classes even have 600 people! Don’t let that intimidate you because it really is not that bad and there are office hours that each professor is required to have in case students need additional help or clarification or practice. This school is especially great for those people who intend on meeting very different people. Due to its large population, you meet someone new almost every single day! I honestly think that any one will enjoy this school as much as I do as long as they are open-minded to different people and to different ideas. This is of course the four most important years of our lives!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Every professor I've had is brilliant, engaging, and motivating. 3/4 teachers I had for my art foundation classes have been graduate students, though, and they're more hit-or-miss than real professors. Lots of times I got the feeling that they don't really care about helping us develop and improve our artwork, and they're just teaching to get the visual arts practice credits. Don't worry, though! After the foundations year it's all seasoned artists for professors.
Am enjoying being here Rutgers New Brunswick has such great campuses. I found it hard to choose which clubs to commit my time to, since there are so many exciting ones out there! I'm currently an officer in two- member of three. :)
Though I'm not a partier, there are always parties going on. Seriously. Like every night. So if you're into that scene, you'll definitely love it here. Everyone's open-minded and fun; it's great.Bang for the buck I only give this 4/5 stars because out-of-state tuition blows.
Tips for prospective students -Go to class, even though it's so easy to skip.
-Pay attention in class. I would suggest NOT bringing a laptop to take notes, because every single person I've ever seen using one is always goofing off. It's too tempting. And studies have shown that doodling improves information recall!

http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1882127,00.html
-Study! You DON'T need to check Facebook at this very moment, you DON'T need to go hang out with friends. Something I learned the hard way is that you CAN say 'sorry, not tonight' to your friends. It's hard, but nothing should come between you and your studies.
-Read for pleasure. Take a speed-reading course if you're not confident in your reading ability. You'll do a lot of reading, even in the visual arts program, and stronger skills will help you so much in both the short and long term.
-DON'T PLEDGE during your first semester! Watching some of my peers go through pledging was nightmarish- they never slept, became depressed, and their grades dropped. Nothing is wrong with waiting until second semester, or even sophomore year.Great for these types of students Anyone except lazy students. Rutgers really pays attention to your performance, and you have to be willing to go the extra mile for stellar grades.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This is one aspect I guarantee you will feel the same way about. Having about 3-5 academic classes and 1-2 seminars per semester allowed me to really focus on the information presented. I found that teachers were incredibly effective and helpful, and I remember sitting in class wondering to myself why my high school teacher couldn't explain the info this way or answer a particular question. Take classes you are interested in! You will always be more likely to understand and pay attention in class because the information relates to you. Honestly, I am very surprised at how much I learned the first year not only in class, but about the school, others and myself.
Am enjoying being here The sun never sets on the Rutgers campuses Rutgers is an incredibly diverse and upbeat place. One will always find something to do from rock climbing to dancing, or from singing to sculpture making. Rutgers hosts numerous activities including concerts, football games, marathons, clubs, sports, leagues and intramural games, sororities/frats; you name it, they got it! There are tons of people to meet and even more places to go. This is one area where everyone can find their niche.
Bang for the buck Most don't know that Rutgers was asked to become an ivy league school and turned down the offer. Rutgers wanted to make its resources equally available to all without the expensive private-school price tag. Considering its elite professors and staff, second largest transit system, endless extra curricular and research opportunities, top notch classes, and public school tuition; Rutgers is easily one of the top choice schools for a rock bottom price.
Tips for prospective students Dont take more then 16-17 credits per semester! You have as much time as you need to finish school. It's better to take your time and do well every year then jam your schedule and have to take the same classes again the next semester because you failed them. Remember! Slow and Steady win the race! Also, make sure that you go to academic advising even if you think you don't need it; You DO! Stay on top of deadlines and make sure come scheduling time that you have three times the amount of classes you really want because most likely you will not get every one you want. (and if you don't get them first off don't panic! Classes constantly change, I had 7 credits going into my second semester and a few weeks before classes started everything fell into place and I had a perfect schedule) Also, do yourself a favor. Don't declare a major before you've even started school. You may think you know what you want to do, but why wouldn't you want to just take some fun classes you are interested in and see where it takes you? You are finally FREE! Give yourself a chance and take classes you WANT to take for once and see where it takes you! Lastly, become a studyblue.com member. Its free and you get rewards for posting your class notes online. Its an awesome site, you can view peoples notes and check on info you don't understand and its always nice to have a little reward incentive :)
Great for these types of students Rutgers is literally great for everyone. Im not joking. You may be sitting there thinking this is definitely not the school for me; it's too big, it's not an ivy, I don't know what I want to do etc. etc. STOP! Rutgers has over 200 majors and a similar number of minors, there will ALWAYS be an opportunity for you to get a degree in what interests you. You can even create your OWN major with dean approval. Yes, the school is big, but for the most part you are never on all of the campuses anyway and you get used to the busing system in about 10 days. I am definitely an introvert and I was able to not not only adapt to Rutgers, but also end up loving it within a month of being there. It is great for students who like to be busy, involved, play sports or intramural sports, be in clubs/associations/sororities/or frats, have many people around, want a suburban/city atmosphere, like to live off campus but still be close to school, want extra activities available (dance, art, outdoor, traveling), are interested in study abroad, seeking credited professors, want free academic, physical and psychological services available 24/7, want equal opportunities, want to research with professors, like many large quiet libraries, lounges and computer labs, and take classwork seriously.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot You learn as much as you want, it's all about putting in the effort. Some kids skate by and take advantage of the bigger classes and never really go to lectures or learn much. Others go to every class and every exam and take a lot from it. Just like the rest of college, it is what you make it.
Am enjoying being here I've only been at Rutgers for a year, and I can honestly say I look forward to the school year now more than I do the summer. It's so easy to make friends, considering there are 20,000 people there, and there's always something fun going on when you have down time. Whether it's sporting events, parties, concerts, guest speakers, clubs, intramural sports, etc., there is always something to do.
Bang for the buck Only around $12,000 or so for two full semsters in tuition and meals, and you can take up to 18 credits a semester. Factor in another $8,000-$9,000 for room and board, which aren't bad accomodations for a dorm, I loved it.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! I joined club baseball and got to travel to Florida with the team on spring break where we got to play teams from around the country and enjoy our time off at the beach as well. I also pledged Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity and made friends that I know I'll be close with for a lifetime. Rutgers is what you make of it, so get out there, start meeting people, and get involved! Make sure you take care of your work in the classroom too, because it can be tough to find balance being away from home for the first time.
Great for these types of students Outgoing people - there are so many people at school, don't be afraid to introduce yourself.
Motivated students - Professors won't stay on you and keep buggin you for late assignments, you NEED to stay on top of things.
Time managers - It's easy to get caught up in the social life of Rutgers, so you need to balance your schedule between classes and social events.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Definitely. You will learn even if you sleep, not just academically, responsibility wise as well. Keep on top of things and sign up for as many possible programs to aid in your transition to college as possible. Make the load that is bound to come, much easier on yourself.
Am enjoying being here I have learned to enjoy it much more than I had anticipated. I was all for small universities and colleges, but Rutgers has made a significant affect on my view of college.
Bang for the buck Try to get as much government aid as possible, dorm expenses combined with a mandatory meal-plan as a freshman will kill your parents pockets if you are not EOF or are commuting.
Tips for prospective students Rutgers is a challenging place to attend school if you are easily discouraged. As a freshman, I commuted not because I could not afford to live on campus, but because my parents were afraid to let me dorm. This put a tremendous strain on how I experienced college. Yet, it did not stunt my views on college life. Academics at Rutgers if you are an engineering, math, science, nursing, pharmacy, arts major are rigorous. Do not be fooled, partying happens but so does exams that you must prepare for and shops that you have to stay long hours to complete various activities in. All in all, it is a blast. Learning about yourself through the eyes of your peers and those faculty that you become close to, teaches you a lot about who you are. Discouragement and depression about an exam grade or a test scores or even your GPA in your first year at Rutgers is bound to occur. However, at the end of that spring semester, when you look back you will be thankful to have experienced so much, learned so much, and enjoyed your time budding into young adulthood. This school, though not my dream school, nor my first pick has indeed opened my eyes to reality. As a prospective student, strap down and be prepared for a ride.
Great for these types of students This school is great for people with good and bad study habits, high and low GPA's and a lot of ambition. Any major apply, but know that you must be prepared to be challenged and actually learn much more than you thought you could in high school. If a new scene is what you are looking for, you will find it here. There are plenty of different cultures and people of all races here, you will become immersed in diversity and that is from every spectrum, academically, socially, culturally. Prepare to be embraced.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers University provides a broad range of academic programs and exiting career fields. Students come from all over the world to take part in Rutgers academic tradition that has an educational legacy for over 235 years. The School of Arts and Sciences, School of Pharmacy, School of Engineering, and School of Environmental Sciences are the top schools that interest prospective students. In both classrooms and lecture halls, professors are more than willing to help students after class or during their office hours. Work assignments can be accessed and must be completed online, like Rutgers Sakai during the course of a semester. Learning presents itself outside the university, where students can seize internship and fellowship opportunities in, hospitals, research institutions, non-profit companies etc. Rutgers Career Services is available for students to access and explore career plans, graduate schools, and build strong resumes.
Am enjoying being here Students have an exciting opportunity to live and explore each of the five campuses (Busch, Livingston, College Ave, Cook, and Douglass). Outside of class, students can socialize with peers and friends in the campus dining halls at any time. Although the food courts get crowded during school days, the food is great and is paid through meal swipes or RU Express. In New Brunswick, the Rutgers bus system is very efficient, arriving every 10 minutes to stops in each campus during weekdays and runs to accommodate students in the weekends as well. Often, the buses get overcrowded during days of severe weather. Students can get free tickets to Rutgers football and basketball games and be part of the Scarlet Fever. In the spring semester, Rutgers Day (April 25th) is an auspicious day which is celebrated in each of the five campuses. Along with students, parents and relatives visit and tour on the campus and engage in many outdoor activities on that day. Rutgersfest is a thrilling event, where concerts take place, there is free food, and a great chance to make new friends. For on-campus housing, students get free wireless internet access in their dormitories/apartments as well as in comfortable study lounges and working areas in libraries. Recreational centers are open in each campus for students to stay in reasonable shape with an in-door pool, basketball courts, and weight rooms.
Bang for the buck Rutgers is a state university in New Jersey, so the university receives funds. For low-income students, there is Equal Opportunity Funds (EOF) to earn aid and academic counseling. For the most part, the university offers scholarships for out-of-state students. 80-90% students receive some kind financial aid package based on their FAFSA. As an EOF student, I am receiving some financial aid next year. Students can also apply for Work-Study and work on-campus during the fall and spring terms to cover expenses. I am doing work-study for the entire academic year in order to cut the costs of the Stafford subsidized loan I borrowed. Moreover, the Dean and advisors of each school offer scholarships to students based on their academic credentials.
Tips for prospective students Rutgers University is professionally business-orientated university. I advise prospective students to manage their finances carefully. Students should choose a meal plan that is fitting. If you receive a refund check, consider the costs of books for a semester and any borrowed loans. As for the social atmosphere, keep in mind that time is money. You are now responsible for deciding what classes to take, how to structure your time, and with whom to associate. Leisure time should be expended for studying for first-year students. Freshmen, who work to set the foundation for their graduate studies by establishing a high GPA, are more prone to find success in this university. In addition, never let your ego and confidence take best of you in courses that are not challenging and seemingly a waste of your time. Students on Pre-Med track should consider not taking too many science courses in one term. In addition, I recommend students to utilize tutoring services, such as OADSIS for pre-med students and Writing Centers for specialized writing/research courses, to perform well in class. Most importantly, learn to become an active member of the community fresh and early.
Great for these types of students Rutgers University offers endless extracurricular opportunities. The Glee Club, Residence Hall Association, and Student Government, are some of the many popular organizations. In this ethically diverse and high-spirited community, students can find also multi-ethnic clubs and organizations. Rutgers University Student who seek to pledge and join a fraternity and sorority are more than welcomed. Networking is the key for any future profession. I find the blend of urban and rural environment very comforting Ultimately, Rutgers is suitable for anyone who strongly believes that education is his or her own creation. Henceforth, Rutgers is a prestigious university that proudly stands by the slogan “Jersey Roots, Global Reach.”

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Making the decision as to what you will do for the rest of your life is not easy. I have changed what I tell people I will become for years, but ever since I came to Rutgers, everything has changed. I have actually been able to explore many options and make a decision about my potential career. Rutgers has so much to offer, being that it is a very prestigious research university and includes the esteemed Colleges of Pharmacy and Nursing. You cannot go wrong here. Even if you have to change your major, the support of the Rutgers community is wonderful and the possibilities of classes to take are endless. You will eventually find something that fits your personality and potential. It is also a great place to discover who you are. There are a variety of organizations, clubs, fraternities and sororities, leadership and volunteer opportunities to engage in. Once you find communities to be involved in, or even one community, it enhances your college experience that much more. If you have always been well-rounded, do not stop when you are in college. Keep challenging yourself and growing. That is all a part of learning.
Am enjoying being here With all the opportunities available, it is hard not to love Rutgers. Even the professors are great and are wonderful intellectuals. Yes, some are boring, but that is inevitable considering your field of study. But, most of the professors are absolutely amazing. Think of the best teacher you have had up to date and then imagine someone even better. I have had my fair share of professors, but thankfully most of them were incredible. They make coming to class and learning fun and exciting. It brings them so much joy when you show a little interest in the course.
With all the clubs and organizations out there, you will be surprised what interests you. Take time to sign up for them and get involved. It makes your resume all that more impressive.
One of the best parts about Rutgers NB is the 5 different campuses and the intercampus bus system. Rutgers has one of the largest bus systems in NJ. And each campus has its own personality that peaks the interests of different students. If you are more of a city person, College Ave is best for you. If you are urban, Busch and Livingston are probably best for you. And if you are more rural, Cook and Douglass are the best fit, as they are very scenic. Cook is home to the Rutgers farm and Douglass houses the celebrated Women's college. Rutgers is essentially about representing diversity and it is very prominent here, especially since it encompasses all types of living arrangements for any student on its different campuses.Bang for the buck NJ resident student pay at least $11,000 and out-of-state pay about $20.000. Even so, fill out your fafsa and apply for grants and scholarships. You never know how much money you could get because of pursuing higher education.
Tips for prospective students Explore all your opportunities by taking a variety of classes that are of interest to you your freshman year. You may have an idea of what you want to do, but you may not know all that it takes to get there and therefore you may change your mind. If you have no clue what you want to do, no problem! You do not have to declare your major/field of study immediately. Just start by taking the classes that are of genuine interest to you AND do well in them. It would be strange if you like a class, but do not do well in it.
With your classes, expect to study a great deal. It is not high school anymore where you can get away studying the day before your exam and pulling off an A. Study smart! And also, attend class. You are paying for your education (or at least your parent's are, unless you have a full-ride) and you are only hurting yourself by skipping class. Some classes take attendance and other large scale lectures do not. Nonetheless, attend all your classes whether attendance is taken or not. It shows you value your education and your respect your professor or TA enough that you showed up. Your professors could be the most boring in the world, but they appreciate when you come to class. They also appreciate a visit once in awhile in office hours to ask questions or just participating in class. Sometimes, this could be the difference between an A and a B.Great for these types of students Rutgers is great for anyone. Yes, although RU is a research university and specializes in a variety of science courses, everything and anything can be found here. Even when you think something, like an academic course or club may not exist, chances are it does. From business and finance to animal science, from biology to performing arts, pretty much anything can be found here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am deeply passionate and thankful for my education here at Rutgers. I did not envision upon initial enrollment that my educational opportunities would be anywhere near what I know they are to be now. We have world-renowned faculty; Rutgers boasts many top spots for various programs in a multitude of different ranking systems across the country and world. Furthermore, I love the research component of this institution -- I myself have started research this year (I am only a sophomore) and believe that I get more opportunities to explore and make ground breaking discoveries and add to overall academia than if I went anywhere else. I am a double major, double minor -- completely out of choice and not because I wish to decorate my resume -- and I am fully confident that I will graduate on time with room to enjoy interests here. The university has a liberal arts core; you will find that it is fully recommended to students here that they diversify the courses they take in order to be more a well-rounded citizen overall. The classes are highly engaging, and are as numerous as the number of stars. Professors are quite attainable out of the classroom; simply schedule an appointment or drop by their office hours. They truly are friendly and will most certainly help you if you ask for it. Their personalities are what keeps me talking to 3-4 of my professors, a year after I've had their classes.
Am enjoying being here The campus is huge. But don't let this be a deterrent for you coming here. In reality, think about it from this standpoint -- it's so big that there's something for everyone. It's hard to feel left out here. Rutgers New Brunswick is broken up into 5 smaller campuses divided by one main highway. Buses transport you from one campus to the next with ease. Each campus has its own feel, its own set of departments, its own set of students. Busch and Livingston are more suburban town like settings while Cook/Douglass has a farm and is a little bit past the downtown of New Brunswick. College Avenue is the main campus, the heart of Rutgers New Brunswick. It is a lively ivy college setting in the city. There's much diversity to be found because of these many campuses. Not just in the type of students, but the types of experiences too. Each campus has its own set of libraries, student centers, recreation centers and dining halls. The added bonus of a large school is the extreme ease with making friends. I meet new and fascinating people every single day. There's also over 400 clubs, of which a couple I am quite involved in. The expanse of the whole university truly emits a sense of student independence while at the same time being an active part of a living and highly functioning community. This is as close to the real world as you'll get.
Bang for the buck If you're a New Jersey resident, this is the absolute best opportunity you can get. The college offers more financial aid than any other post-secondary school out there; the fact that this is the primary state university guarantees such. In state tuition for both on-campus and commuter students is quite flexible. In addition, the Educational Opportunity Fund provides much financial and educational assistance to those who come to the university with such needs. Currently Rutgers degrees have been cited by the The Wall Street Journal as one of the top 25 in the nation that recruiters seek employees from. The experience you get here is long lasting and you won't forget the people you've met and the achievements you've attained. We've been described as a public ivy league for decades and we're always welcoming of students who decide to forgo one of the Ivys for a more financially-minded education. The Career Services department truly serves and helps you find employment during and post-graduation. We're diverse as well; Rutgers is open to out-of-state residents and we are striving to make international students to feel most welcome. Scholarships are numerous and the Financial Aid offices are flexible and very willing to help you with any problems you might have. Resources here are essentially limitless as well; there's more than you could ever possibly want and need. Rutgers goes above and beyond your expected wants for a university.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Don't hesitate to make your Rutgers experience work for you -- tailor fit it to your needs. You will most certainly find your niche faster and better if you expand your horizons to find out likes and dislikes. Work toward your passions. Stay studious -- academics are what you're here for, not a leadership position or to impress potential employers with the amount of work hours you've been putting in at work study. Use your campus map the first few days of campus -- after that, chuck it and take the buses during your free time to explore parts of campus you've never seen! You'll seem much more of a pro to your fellow freshmen and you'll find out things and see a bunch of beautiful scenes you wouldn't have known about otherwise. Meet regularly with advisers to stay on top of your educational goals; do research with a professor if you're planning on entering graduate school, or even if you're just thinking about making a positive change in your educational discourse. Try all the dining halls, student centers, study areas: use your weekends to catch up on studying and to even get ahead in terms of readings. Participate actively in class by staying in the first rows of seats and taking relevant notes. Staying on top of your required readings is key so you don't cram when midterms and finals come around. Introduce yourself to your professor and establish a friendly on-going relationship; you'd be very surprised where this can take you in terms of opportunities and networking. Get involved because there is no reason a student shouldn't -- hundreds of clubs and new ones pop up all the time. Lastly, my most important tip is to be open to change and to never be relenting in the number of questions you ask. There will always be something here that will pique your interest, there will always be something with which you want more information, and there will always be a never ending amount of people that will able to answer those questions. Everyone is outgoing and questions are what establishes friendships and shows the surrounding community that you care.
Great for these types of students Motivated/hard working students, open-minded students, anyone looking to try new things and establish long-lasting friendships with unique experiences, those looking for a diverse student body, outgoing student leaders willing to make a change and contribute positively to the world, anyone looking for a challenge, people wishing to transform their personalities and own opinions, students looking for top-notch education for cheap, those seeking to invest in research, students interested in being happy, anyone passionate about the perfect college fit; these really are the best four years of your academic life.

Tips for prospective students Rutgers is a huge school with a lot ot offer. It can be easy to get lost but there is something for everybody so try to get involved in something. This is a great way to make friends, have fun and relax from the school work at times. Explore the city, go to sport games and on campus events. Go to class, have fun, and become an adult.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers University-New Brunswick has been all that I expected in a University and more. It has provided me with many different opportunities such as research and volunteer opportunities to gain experience in my field of interest while attending school. On a scale of one to ten I would give it a nine, because if Rutgers has taught me anything it is that you can always improve!
Tips for prospective students A few tips for prospective students would be to never slack at any point in any semester. Every grade counts. Get involved and make friends! There are so many organizations to join and people to meet! Also, find an activity that will help you manage stress control. You're probably going to need one!
Academic Rigor I believe Rutgers University is up there with the most difficult schools in the country. Depending on one's major there can be simple classes or extremely difficult classes. I believe the Science department requires an abundance of time and work from its students. The math department is just at a difficult level. The business department contains many deadlines for students. The English department requires an intense reading agenda for students. Finally, the other departments require all of the students to attend classes, get their assignments done, and do well on all of their exams.
Dorm Life Dorm life was one of my best experiences at RU. I met so many friends that I kept throughout my four years. Dorm life gives students an additional group of friends and a sense of camaraderie. There were many activities organized for students in dorms. It definitely contributed to my loving feeling toward the University.
Food and Dining I believe Rutgers offered a plethora of food options. I have many different friends with different dietary needs such as lactose intolerant, vegetarian, vegan, kosher, etc. Rutgers provided many options for each of these different students in dining halls and at public food organizations. I enjoyed my dining experience at RU.
What to do for fun For fun as a freshman I would recommend fraternity parties, clubs, student life events, and FOOTBALL GAMES! There's something to do every night of every week, which could also be a detriment if you are not careful. There are many fun things to do at RU. It is just a matter of picking which activities are best for you!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you have a sweet tooth, the ARC on Busch Campus has a bake sale going on a lot of the time. Different clubs and organizations set up tables in the hallway for students in between classes to raise money for a good cause. If you are in the middle of classes on Busch and need to satisfy that craving I recommend checking it out!
Great for these types of students Students who love to run outdoors have many options at Rutgers University - New Brunswick. My favorite place to run throughout my four years was at Buccleuch Park, since I lived on College Avenue. It is a hilly course with lots of things to look at. There are usually a lot of people there. I would definitely recommend running here in the daylight. It was very enjoyable!
Clubs and Activities For four years I was a part of the Association of Undergraduate Geneticists. It is an interest group that gets together weekly with food and talks about genetics in the news, legends, movies, research, etc. It allows genetics majors and others interested in genetics to network with the faculty and keeps student aware of opportunities.
Campus Safety I would say Rutgers University - New Brunswick is very safe. With all of the crime alerts and stigmas there is definitely a small sense of uneasiness when walking around alone at night in dark areas. However, I never witnessed or was a part of anything unsafe in my four years at RU. I would have no problem recommending this school to even the most paranoid students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I'm in the pharmacy program and there are pretty tough classes but they help you learn a whole lot and they definitely get you prepared educationally. The teachers are also very willing to help.
Am enjoying being here It's really fun here mainly because it's very easy to make friends and there's so much to do. There are tons of clubs and activities.
Bang for the buck The classes here are wonderful and most of the teachers are really helpful and contribute much time and effort to make sure their students understand the material. So I think this school is definitely worth the money.
Tips for prospective students Definitely get your work done on time. I know everyone probably says this but you definitely shouldn't procrastinate because the work piles up very quickly and it would be very difficult to cram for these exams since they cover a lot of material.
Great for these types of students It's definitely great for the diligent students who are somewhat laid back and wouldn't mind adding a little fun in their college experience.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers is a great school to attend if you're interested in having a broad range of knowledge after college. The SAS requirements specifically for you to take classes from a wide range of disciplines so you're more familiar with fields you may have not studied before. I think that aspect improves character because it allows students to get exposed to and appreciate fields the may not have necessarily always been interested in.
Am enjoying being here I really like the atmosphere at Rutgers. There are a few different campuses which almost fit different personalities quite well. I've lived on Busch (one of the quieter campuses) for quite some time so I prefer it. However, the variety of people to meet and places to go is never ending. And, as an added bonus, there's a train station right in the heart of New Brunswick so you can visit the city whenever.
Bang for the buck I have to admit this college hurts the wallet. It used to be the case that Rutgers was the sure fire in-state school to attend if you weren't interested in signing your bank account away but I wouldn't say that's true anymore. With all the tuition hikes and budget cuts from the state, the students here have really suffered. Sure, there's Federal Aid but that only helps so much. You really need to be prepared to have some savings going in or take out loans.
Tips for prospective students I highly recommend exploring the website and reading every email you get from Rutgers. There are TONS of opportunities to get your foot into the door of any industry your interested in so it's important to network with professors and look for research opportunities and internships. I recommend getting really engaged with all the material you study (even if you're not necessarily interested in it!) Worst case scenario: you'll learn something new and get a good grade!
The other tip I have is also really important. Keep in mind which Graduate School you'd like to attend throughout your undergraduate years. Your undergraduate GPA is so volatile in the first few semesters in college but it sets into a range once you're in your junior year. Try to get at least above Bs in all your classes! Trust me, you'll regret seeing low grades in easy classes later on.Great for these types of students I would say Rutgers is good for students that did well in high school but were not necessarily engaged with the material out of genuine interest. It bothers me to say that but I often here several of my fellow students mumbling about how they'd rather be doing this, that and the other thing, in class. It's disappointing to be one of two or three students that genuinely cares about the topics we cover but I'm hopeful that more students will learn to appreciate learning because of the Rutgers experience.

Will enjoy being here Rutgers is filled with so many beauty like most schools. The only difference is that you get to enjoy it at a cheaper price. Check out the river, the lovebird bridge by Douglass college
Bang for the buck One thing I do not like is that the fact that if you get a scholarship and you finish school in Rutgers, they will not give you the money to cash or transfer, they just give it to the next student. It happened to my teacher, but it also makes sense.
Tips for prospective students Get as much info as you can. Stayed involved. I am going to do this summer program right now and I can't wait. What rocks about Rutgers is that they give you different programs to do during the summer if you don't get into the EOF program. But, the orientation and info session timing sucks.
Great for these types of students Douglass college is awesome. Apply there if you are interested in staying in an all girl residence hall because they have different programs that will set you on your path.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers University has intelligent professors in all fields, some of whom write and use their books for classes so that professors can easily project their ideas to students concisely. There are also Teacher's assistants available for any help whether one needs help during class or after. Teacher's assistants are a great addition to the helpfulness Rutgers has to offer to help one to understand the course material. The classes I have been a part of have all had clear syllabi which gave students an idea of how difficult a class is so students can change their classes accordingly if needed.
Am enjoying being here The sociability of Rutgers is much like the city life. Rutgers has four campuses, all of considerable size and diversity so while it may make one feel small, most people who attend Rutgers already have friends attending or are attending with them so most likely one would see friends or make friends easily as Rutgers proves how small the world can be. Meeting people is no problem as people seem to be connected and know each other. Especially if one chooses to live on campus, socializing is very easy in a dorm freshmen year. People are generally very friendly and open to conversations. The friends you make from Rutgers are sure to be great friends who remain close to you as college flies by.
Bang for the buck The effort one must put into schoolwork is not immensely considerable so long as one manages time well and puts in studying time enough to understand the material before exams which is equivalent to about an hour everyday.
Tips for prospective students Manage your time well because many people may find the social fun side of Rutgers to welcome many temptations away from work.
Great for these types of students Sociable and hardworking students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors all have their own styles which make the classes unique. Unlike most high schools though, the learning is a self-driven endeavor; the professor will help those who make an effort and try to do their best. The information that you will learn is not just limited to the classroom, but helps you find who you really are.
Am enjoying being here I am from southern Virginia, so if this school did not offer something of everything, or anything for me, I would not have come here. The students that you become neighbors and friends with help make it worth the while to attend here. The jobs on campus and off allow for interaction with others that you normally would not associate with but still help you grow.
Bang for the buck The tuition not only covers the expense for the classes and professors, but also pays for the bus system, which for its flaws is getting better every year, for the CAPS (Counseling and Psychiatric Services) who help with any issues ranging from ADD to depression, for the 3 health centers located on the different campuses, 4 dining halls for you to have the opportunity to see what is around, as well as may libraries with many connections to get the books needed.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, I encourage you to look not only at what is offered academically, but also how you connect to the actual school and the students you meet. The atmosphere is not just for fun or academics but for the chance to become the best you possible. Look for what suits you, not what suits your parents because they will visit, yes, but they will not live there, grow there, learn there, love and hate, and most importantly become you.
Great for these types of students All types who are willing to do what they must to succeed or are looking for the best methods to find who they are.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of the classes are well run. However, to maximize the learning experience at Rutgers one should go to all of the lectures and read from the books as much as possible. Anyone who does this will find that they are learning triple of what they did in high school and should find it fairly simple to excel in all of their courses.
Am enjoying being here The five campuses at New Brunswick have so many things to offer. From the Grease Trucks on College Avenue to the Football Field on Busch, there is never a dull moment. Most people are under the common misconception that to have fun at a university warrants frequent trips to the Frat Houses on College Ave. There are a ton of clubs and activities to join in and getting involved with intramural sports is a great way to meet new people.
Bang for the buck This university is most definitely worth the money spent. Everything and everyone at Rutgers makes you feel like you're at home. The quality of the dorms and dining halls are premium...especially on Busch Campus (can't help but to have pride for your campus!! :D) You will never feel gypped at Rutgers!!
Tips for prospective students Here are a Few Tips to Follow:
-Stay on top of your work
-Before your classes start, take a day and bus around the campuses (this way you'll find all of your classes AND you'll learn the bus system)
-Go to your Professor's office hours, this will help you get to know your professors and this will be helpful for difficult course materialLogin to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are so many opportunities to attend speeches or seminars, practically daily. In class you learn what you are required to in your syllabus, and then you also learn about the professor's research and the field. Every professor is required to have a research project, since Rutgers is a research university, so they are all very knowledgeable on their areas of interest.
Am enjoying being here There are lots of things to do! Rutgers is a big school - a really big school since it spans 2 both New Brunswick and Piscataway. With 3 different campuses to choose from, there are always activities going on. There are events that RUPA organizes, like Hot Dog Day or Rutgersfest, and then there are events hosted by different clubs or sororities/fraternities. Apart from the events, there are gyms on every campus, a golf course on Busch campus, a frisbee track on the Cook/Douglass campus, and much more. Plus, you can always go into New Brunswick or hop on the train to New York, both within walking distance from the College Ave campus.
Bang for the buck I received a scholarship from Rutgers that was granted to me because of a combination of my SAT score and my class ranking/percentile. I also commute from home - about a 40 minute commute - so I only pay a few hundred dollars a year to attend.
Tips for prospective students If you want to apply, apply earlier rather than late. The school has probably over 10,000 applicants each year, and you want yours to be read sooner to ensure your spot. While a lot of people have said that anyone in NJ can get into Rutgers, I know people that have gotten rejected because they had one bad grade on their transcript. And write the essay on the application. I know it's optional, but write it anyway. Make sure to visit the campus and see all 3 campuses, so you can get a feel for the school. Also, talk to multiple advisors, because they may have different advice or one may be more knowledgeable about your concern than another.
Great for these types of students People who do not want to be at a school located in the middle of nowhere, but don't want to be in a big city either. People who are looking to explore a variety of interests and areas of study. People who want to have fun.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot When it comes to education, Rutgers excels in providing diverse subjects for its students. With a variety of majors and classes, a freshman can be exposed to many potential fields of study. For example, I was able to discover and enjoy the uniqueness of an Italian Opera course and a class for Samurai Tradition in Literature and Film. While some courses require big lecture halls with over a hundred students, you can still find a comfortable-sized classroom with thirty other pupils. Besides the first-time calculus student aids, Rutgers students will find highly qualified professors, many that are enthusiastic in their work. While many students will have to adapt to different teach methods, they will soon find out that they are receiving a true college learning experience.
Did enjoy being here Through my own experiences, I quickly discovered that the Rutgers environment was not suitable to my own habits. I was greatly pleased by the wonderful food at the different dining halls and the handy bus system. Yet, I found myself feeling foreign in the suburban area and among the wild parties. When a person describes Rutgers as being “big,” it is really an understatement. Big, in my case, was not a good thing when it came to finding the right friends.
Bang for the buck I would have to say that spending 20k for tuition and board was a bad move for my situation. As a student from a family of five with only my father earning a salary and having my twin sister currently attending college as well, I did not think thing through financially. I had expected more help from financial aid and did not have any backup plans. I ended up dealing with most of it through loans that will come to bite me in the future. As much as I enjoyed my Rutgers’ educational experience, I know I can settle for less for a cheaper price.
Tips for prospective students One of the biggest tips I can give to a prospective student is to be prepared for the financial aspects of going to any college, whether it happens to be Rutgers or not. For the best educational experience, always give 100% in every class. Every quiz, exam and essay is important.
Great for these types of students Students that can handle and enjoy independence will do just fine at Rutgers. They must know how to balance their schoolwork with their social life. If you are a city bumpkin like me, then be prepared for the changes! The grass and trees can be a little shocking!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It's a really good and competitive school with great professors who are really willing to stay after and help you out during their office hours. Most have to go through the tortures of expository writing, but in truth it isn't that bad if you work hard at it AND manage your time wisely because if you spend all you time on expos you may end up neglecting some other classes or vice versa. The school is good for all types, because although competitive, people are still really helpful and work together so it's not a cutthroat experience.
Am enjoying being here It's a fun environment with many different things to do. There are coffee houses, lots of different sporting events, and immense amount of parties and social gatherings that it's difficult not to find your niche and love being here. From day 1, the freshman orientation just kicks everything off nicely with a dorm battle and that fun spirit just continues throughout the school year with bbqs, football games, laser tag, and many other things for personal enjoyment.
Bang for the buck First off - you should try to avoid buying things from the bookstore because it tends to be more expensive than anywhere else. The best option after getting your book list is to see if anyone is selling the books you need or check eBay/Barnes and Nobles/Borders for cheaper prices. In some cases the book isn't even necessary so it's also best to check ratemyprofessor to see if the professor's notes are all you'll really need. Some books are also carried in the libraries to loan out so that's a free book that you can borrow for a very long time. Apart from that everything is fairly cheap, most functions have free food, and there's always some restaurant of eatery nearby with cheap food. As for tuition, make sure to complete your financial aid applications early because with all schools there's more money earlier and thus they tend to give out more money than if you turned in your application later and they increase their minimum requirements due to lack of funds.
Tips for prospective students Check out the school early, stay overnight and follow someone around who not only shows you to their classes but also around campus in general. Cook campus although seemingly in the middle of nowhere has the best dining hall of all of the campuses but the bus system for cook is a little shaky lately (especially during the weekends) so plan your trips (visiting, eating, classes) very wisely. Busch campus has the next best food followed by Livingston and lastly College Ave. For take out food it's pretty much the same order but livingston is better than busch for takeout. Explore the school, get lost and find what works for you.
Great for these types of students All types will find a place to call home here, there's lots to do on campus and because we're right next to downtown new brunswick there's even more there. I've seen many different types and the good thing about this school is that even though you see all the different cliques and social groups, there is still a lot of mixing of social classes which I find excellent. In all it's a great school to find people like you, find yourself, or reinvent a whole new you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It can be hard to learn sometimes, just because it is so easy to skip class, and there are so many people that the professor doesn't feel the need to do a good job because even if he does a terrible job, a certain number of people are bound to pass.
Am enjoying being here It is a lot of fun! There are so many people, so many things to do, and endless possibilities!
Bang for the buck Cheaper than private schools and such, but tuition rates increase yearly. Then again, most places probably have that problem in this economy. It's a pretty good deal for New Jerseyans, considering the reputation of this school.
Tips for prospective students Have an open mind! There are a lot of people at Rutgers, meaning there are a lot of awesome people too! Despite the large population, however, you will ALWAYS meet up with the same people again and again! It's a good idea to branch out and try to meet as many people as possible, that's what college is for. Also, it is always good to be straighforward with your room mate, rather than being passive aggressive, which always leads to problems.
Great for these types of students Self-motivated, driven to do well (there is a lot of competition, it is hard to do well in large science lectures without studying), and social (there are a lot of ways to have fun)
It can take up to 20 minutes to get from one large campus to the other, so students who don't mind walking a bit and riding buses would be good too.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot be sure you are ready to apply yourself to get the great grades
Tips for prospective students Talk to your roommate before you get to school to help calm your nerves, it helps a lot. If you are getting any supplies for your room, like a rug or tv, you can split the purcahses with your roommate. Be ready for your diet to change, the food isn't amazing so keep snacks and quick meals in your dorm, they come with fridges and microwaves.
Great for these types of students Students who are ready to meet lots of new friends and classmates/study buddies; and also students who don't mind walking a little to get around. Rutgers is also good for people who are ready to seriously put study time and effort into your grades, with a little bit of party. There are also lots of clubs, sports and activities for people to partake in, which are lots of fun, coming from a participant. :)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers University offers a variety of programs ranging from subjects in the arts, to science and business classes. Everything you could want is at Rutgers University. The classes are enjoyable, which make it easier to learn. Professors and TA's are always helpful and there to assist your learning in any way possible.
Am enjoying being here Rutgers University is a great college. With such a diverse student body it is impossible not to meet a group of people that you enjoy spending time with. There is always something to do on campus, from hanging out with friends to a group sponsored dance, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy.
Bang for the buck Rutgers University is a state school, but the education you get is much better than that of any regular state school. Rutgers has been asked to be in the Ivy League twice, but has denied the invitation twice, in hopes of remaining a state school that can be afforded by many students. This fact proves to you that at Rutgers, you are getting a terrific education for a good price. In addition, there are always opportunities for scholarships and loans to help pay for school. In essence, Rutgers is a great school for an even greater price.
Tips for prospective students Rutgers University is a great place to be. Although its large size may seem intimidating, its large student population and vast campus provide for a diverse group of people and endless opportunities. There are always new people to meet and different organizations and groups to get involved in. In addition, the large campus size gives students the chance of experiencing many college settings. Rutgers New Brunswick is divided into five smaller campuses, College Ave., Cook/Douglass, Busch, and Livingston. Bus transportation is provided from campus to campus, which can be hectic and confusing, but works out to give you a unique college experience. While Busch and Livingston are larger, more spread out and rural campuses, a student can simply hop on a bus downtown to College Ave., where the city life provides for numerous eateries and shopping centers. But along with the exciting campus life, the school itself offers great programs in all areas especially Business, Pharmacy, and Engineering. Professors are always helpful, but each student has to make sure that they are active in getting the aid that they need. Rutgers also offers numerous opportunities in areas such as career services and study abroad programs. In any venture, a student must be active in their pursuits. After all your hard work is done, be sure to attend a Rutgers football or basketball game, you will definitely enjoy yourself!
Great for these types of students Rutgers University is great for students who want to get a great education, but don't want to spend all of their time studying and doing school work. Rutgers has great programs for each individual to get involved in, ranging from Greek Life to intramural volleyball, there is something for everyone. Rutgers is also a great school for a student who is going to be active in participation, both within school and outside of school. WIth such a large size, it is easy to get lost amid the myriad of students, so being active and maintaing a strong voice will help each student stand out.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This being my first semester at Rutgers, I have learned more than I thought possible. My first month there, taught me how to make friends quickly in a totally strange and new environment, along with learning how to navigate around my campus. I also had to figure out how to use the convenient bus system to go to the other campuses and find my classes. I thought I was never going to figure the buses out, but the upper class men there are the nicest people, despite what you may think, and they taught me to not be afraid to speak up. At first i was very nervous to go live in a new place where I had no friends, but the campus staff along with my resident assistant helped me to adjust to my new school. Other than the social aspects of learning, I have been taught new ways to go about learning material from my professors.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy going to Rutgers, because I love the way things function here and all of the opportunities that are available. They give you space to be yourself and to explore new things. They have a countless number of classes that are available to every student and they have clubs and organizations for every area of interest imaginable. If there is an organization or club that you are interested in that you find is not on campus, then you can request to have it available. Rutgers tries to make sure that every student is getting the education that will set them up for the rest of their lives. I love Rutgers because it feels like my second home.
Bang for the buck The amount of money I pay to attend Rutgers University seems to add up to what I am offered here. My classes, meal plan, and room/board are the main things I pay for and the prices for them seem about right. The other additional fees could have been less but there was nothing I could do to challenge them.
Tips for prospective students My advice for a student that intends on attending Rutgers University, is to never take anything or anyone for granted. Rugters has an environment where the student makes their own decisions and is therefore responsible for the choices he makes. This means that more freedoms are presented to each student and it is their choice to attend classes and to make proper use of their time so they do well academically in the long run.
Great for these types of students Rutgers is for students that love to be around a great number of people varying in race and ethnic backgrounds. You also have to be willing to dedicate a lot of time to your studies in order to prosper here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently taking Intro to International Relations, Intro to Philosophy, Nature of Politics, Energy and Society, Community Activism, and Intro to Cultural Anthropology. Most of my classes are 300 student lectures but all my professors are great and I get a more intimate learning experience in recitation with about 20 - 30 students.
Am enjoying being here Rutgers is a big school in campus size and students, but that just means more things to do! I live on the Cook/Douglass Campus and get to enjoy the scenic and smaller campus, but if I want to go out at night I can just hop on a bus to the College Ave. Campus. From Rutgers Football Games to club meetings for Rutgers University Coalition Against Trafficking, I can always find something to do that I am interested in!
Bang for the buck As an in-state student, the tuition is definitely worth all that I am getting from the University. The tuition covers not only my education but also many free and discounted activities I get to attend as a student, such as free tickets to Rutgers games and discounted tickets when performers come to Rutgers.
Tips for prospective students As with any prospective students, come to Rutgers ready to meet people! Don't worry, all the other freshmen are in the same position as you. Simple things like keeping your door open if your saying in the dorm can lead to new friendships.
Great for these types of students Rutgers honestly has something for everyone, but it is especially great for students interested in Philosophy, Engineering, Biological and Environmental Sciences, and Pharmacy. The only type of student it would be especially not good for is someone that priorities a small school in what they are looking for.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers University is a diverse, sprawling campus. The professors are amazing and the classes are very challenging. The perfect place to get a quality, inexpensive education!
Tips for prospective students Learn the bus schedule. Be prepared for class (that means read ahead and keep ahead!). Eat at the grease trucks. Explore New Brunswick.
Academic Rigor Rutgers University is a challenging institution. Keep up on your school work, plan ahead, and you'll do just fine. Talk with your professors or take advantage of the wealth of student programs available if you are struggling.
Dorm Life Haven't lived in dorms, can't comment.

Academic Rigor The classes are challenging but not impossible.
Dorm Life Live in Demarest Hall!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers is a very diverse campus with tons of different things to do. You will never be bored on this campus, I can guarantee this. You will have to work hard, but you will definitely be challenged and learn while at Rutgers which is the most important part.
Tips for prospective students Most classes are lectures, which means you will have to force yourself to go to class. Make sure that you actually go because it will make all the difference in your final grade. Also, make connections with the professors they are very approachable and most of them truly enjoy the subject they are teaching. They love talking to students about the material, helping prepare for exams, and their research projects. Once you make these connections they are more than willing to write letters of recommendation for you. Going up to them can definitely be intimidating, but step out of your comfort zone and do it because it will help you in the end.
Academic Rigor Rutgers is a challenging university so you will have to attend all classes, do required readings, and study hard throughout the semester and not just before the exams. Classes are usually larger, with up to a couple hundred students per class, therefore you have to make sure you pay attention to the syllabus and have a planner to keep tract of due dates. Professors will usually remind you of due dates the day before a paper or assignment is due, if they decide to remind you at all.
Dorm Life Residence Life at Rutgers is probably my favorite part of my college experience. I just got hired as a resident assistant so I know from experience that they go out their way to make sure students have a great time. They plan many different programs which always include free food and are always fun. They do strongly enforce the policies which include drug and alcohol policy, however it is for everyone's safety. Overall, I feel that dorm life at Rutgers is a great experience!
Food and Dining There are many different meal plan options at Rutgers, and there are many places you can use meal swipes. Student centers and campus centers all have different choices for food including major restaurant chains such as Wendy's, Sbarro Pizza, Dunkin' Donuts, and many more. They even have meal plan options for students that live off campus and even commuters.
What to do for fun There are so many different opportunities to get involved at this university. If you decide to get involved in clubs, student government, or sports you will never be bored. Getting involved helps to get accustomed to such a large school and make friends. There are also a lot of different volunteering opportunities on campus and in the surrounding communities in the New Brunswick area.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers University offers a plethora of career options to its students. It is relatively affordable and although it is a research-based school, it has so much to offer. The diversity is refreshing and I think Rutgers graduates will have great things to offer the world.
Tips for prospective students Do not ever feel like a small fish in a big sea. Rutgers University has so much to offer and has a place for everyone. Even though it may take a little time to find that spot for you, once you find it--and you certainly will, you will not have any regrets.
Academic Rigor I believe Rutgers has a rigorous, yet manageable work load. The one great thing is that I do not think it favors one field of work over another. There is not more emphasis on one profession than another.
Dorm Life Rutgers dorm life is great. A person can meet so many different people within the four years there. Long lasting friendships can be made because of dorm life.
Food and Dining The dining halls are well-kept. The food is tolerable. Rutgers does offer a wide variety of food and caters to all types of diets.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers is undoubtedly the hotspot of diversity, where local and international students congregate together in one school, making social life a booming culture.
Academics vary depending on the professors that you come in contact with, most are generally more focused on their research, which can be good for their knowledge in teaching, but bad for their personal attention to students.
Football and drinking is the mainstream, academics is just a fish in the stream (meaning social life takes precedence over academics)Tips for prospective students If you are a Jersey student considering Rutgers for its cheap value, then your consideration is wise. This is the New Jersey school for decent academic opportunities at a low cost, especially if you are an undergraduate student seeking to enroll in the sciences, business, or any research/technical field of study. I would not choose this school if money or proximity is not an issue for you, and you value the prestigious Ivy names out there. Undergrad $ saver = Rutgers.
If you consider Rutgers your dream school, please weigh carefully the academic pros and cons of coming here before you imagine something that is beyond the reality. There are definite cons to coming to such a large school, like the bureacracy of how things are done during registration or trying to get some time with advisors. Do not expect personal attention from the faculty here, it is not common. Just know that as far as undergraduate degrees go, Rutgers really is a top value as rated by many publisher. Make sure that you get APs or college-level credits in, especially if you are from NJ. They generally count towards your undergraduate study, so that you can save 1-3 semesters of tuition based on how many AP or college-level credits you can get approved. Make sure your guidance counselor informs you on how to contact the advisors at Rutgers, because the credits will be impeccable to you once you arrive here and realize that you could have saved semesters by cracking down on those AP credits.Academic Rigor I give this a 3-star because I want you to weigh 3 things:
Level of difficulty- 3 out of 5, as in moderate; you can take that well or badly depending on how easy you like your classes to be.
Level of cohesiveness- 3 out of 5; the way that the professors teach often does not flow, but comes in chunks of information that you are meant to dissect on your own.
Level of integrity- 2 out of 5. People here cheat, especially in the business school. But more than that is the fact that people here do not have a very sharp desire to actually LEARN. At least, that's what it seems like in the business school; that they just want to get As or Cs depending on their agendas and get out of here as fast as possible. That has a toll on the academic culture here.Dorm Life The reason I give my dorm life a 4 star has to do with where I live, on Douglass campus, in a first year all girls dorm. Sounds lame, I know, but it's actually really awesome living with girls that become like your sisters. I've polled the majority of my friends as well, who live on Busch, Livingston, and College Ave. The dorms are all clean and moderately new, but I would avoid College Ave, I never hear anything positive about that campus' dorms. Dorm life varies depending on your preference for silence or noise, but when you are accepted to Rutgers, you can easily choose those options when selecting a roommate. Dorm life for freshmen often consist of something called floor meetings, which you will be required to attend, but they're generally quick, about 15 minutes, and cover basic information like academics, floor rules, and events that will be happening near where you live, so it's useful to attend as well. My advice about dorm life, if you want it to be the best, is simply to leave your door open or stop by other people's dorms to say hi. It isn't as intimidating as it sounds, it's actually very simple and allows you to get to know other people. Also, the Livingston Campus is almost done with their newly build apartments, plaza, and movie theater, so if you live on Livi you will be in the center of a new hotspot as well.
Food and Dining I'll be really detailed on this one because food is important to a lot of incoming freshmen. The food is good in my opinion, fresh on some nights, like steak and mashed potatoes, chicken marsala. The breads and other kinds of carbs are sometimes dry, but the microwaves and toasters and panini presses will easily fix that by bringing out their original flavors. will satisfy your culinary tastes. It is buffet style. There are stations called Mediterranean Grills which are made-to-order. The staff are friendly, and if they are not, please be nice to them because most students are disrespectful to them. You will find that they will appreciate and reciprocate kindness. I realized I receive significantly larger portions of food simply by smiling at the staff.
Overall, the dining hall food is repetitive because you will be there all year round, so depending on your liking towards variety the dining halls may please you or annoy you on some days more than most. The Livingston and Douglass dining halls are the best ones. There are many, many options outside of the dining halls, however, in the New Brunswick area; chinese food, viet, sushi, Mexican, fast food, grills, Dunkin Donuts, etc. You will not starve, ever. What to do for fun There's over 100+ student organizations and there's always a party or campus show or fellowship or movie (like i mentioned before, there's a Livingston movie theater being built right now as I type this in 2012) going on somewhere, anywhere, at any time on all the campuses. Vague, but once you get here, you'll see what I mean. You will not be bored.
Bang for the buck Same undergraduate education as Ivies, 1/3 the tuition. I know because I talk to people who go to Cornell and Yale, and it's the same thing. It is true that personal attention may be less, but that changes as you progress to upperclassmen classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Passion Puddle-- kiss somewhere here and you will get married
Rutgers Garden-- it's hidden somewhere near Cook, maybe you will find this secret gardenGreat for these types of students You can be athletic and outgoing or shy and reserved. Cliche, but Rutgers really is for diverse types of people. It's one of those big but rare colleges that have so many little communities in it that change people for life. If you have Jersey pride, you'll like Rutgers.
Clubs and Activities So many clubs. So many activities. Have fun choosing which party you want to go to, or which fellowship you want to go to, or which ice cream party/free pizza event you want to go to. There are so many things happening at the same time. You will never have nothing to do.
Greek Life More objective opinion: Greek Life is semi-big on campus. Almost all the houses are on College Ave. Greek parties from what I've heard are very difficult to get into. Initiation often involves violent stuff like punching bricks (my friend joined a frat) or playing cruel pranks.
Personal opinion: Wouldn't recommend Greek Life. It's enough to join clubs or join a community, Greek Life just seems unnecessary for social life. in fact, most of the people I know in sororities and frats don't really talk to people outside of their circles, which I think defeats the point of any community.Campus Safety Safety is a little controversial. There are crime alerts every week, sent to your email without your subscription and your phone if you subscribe, about someone getting jumped or someone blowing something up. Two of them have involved two of my friends, that's how many have happened. Keep in mind that the campus is located in New Brunswick, and a handful of students come from street life. Not criticizing the streets, I'm familiar with them myself. It's just something to be aware of when you come to this college. On the other hand, I walk around by myself at night, through the woods and all that, and I'm always fine, thank God. It's a big campus and anything can happen, so just be on your toes and don't hang around late at night with people you don't know (common sense stuff, but trust me I know people who forget these little things. it's so true in real life). But you have a higher change of being in risk when you go to a party than when you walk down the street at night though, so keep that in mind as well-- danger is everywhere, so be alert, but don't be paranoid either and you should be fine.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers has a huge selection of academics and boasts incredibly qualified and interesting professors. There are plentiful research and volunteer opportunities. Depending on how you utilize what Rutgers has to offer, you can have literally any sort of college experience you could ask for.
Tips for prospective students Living on campus is not for everyone and commuting is no easy feat either. You have to be very passionate about what you are looking to do at this school. The first year is difficult, getting acclimated to the campus and the ins and outs of being a Rutgers student, but the overall experience is worth the initial struggle.
Academic Rigor Academic rigor varies among departments, professors, etc. For the most part, the school provides what you need to excel, so long as you utilize those resources provided. The opportunities are there to learn an incredible amount on just about any topic you'd like. The topics for classes are especially creative.
Dorm Life For the most part, dorms are a party scene. They are clean and well-kept.
Food and Dining Food is amazing at Rutgers New Brunswick. Every meal is an all-you-can-eat buffet and every campus has it's own dining hall. The cooks really know what they are doing and there is great variety.
What to do for fun There are lots of parties, basement shows, etc. if that's what you're into. There are lots of other activities if that's not what your into such as plays, weekend excursions, etc.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Fat sandwiches are a must to try at least once. But eat at your own risk.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers provides an education that will challenge its students. The running joke is that Rutgers provides an Ivy League education at a fraction of the cost, and I've come to believe that. It won't be easy (nothing worth attaining ever is), but the satisfaction in getting that degree will be worth it.
Tips for prospective students Study hard, take college seriously, and don't forget to take time to relax.
Academic Rigor Classes at Rutgers are challenging, but totally conquerable--as long as you're willing to put in the effort to get the good grade.
Dorm Life Living in a dorm is a very rewarding experience. ResLife takes great care of its students, scheduling lots of fun events and really striving to create a the feeling of a tight-knit community.
Food and Dining The food at Rutgers is a lot better than food at most other colleges. They have a wide array of options that can satisfy individual cravings. Also, on nights when you're too busy to sit down and eat, the dining halls offer takeout--a luxury that is unique to Rutgers.
Bang for the buck Rutgers offers a top-notch private school education for a public school price, it's an offer than can't be beat.
Clubs and Activities Rutgers offers many different types of clubs, ranging from academic to hobby interests. If Rutgers doesn't have the club you're looking for, it's very easy to start your own.
Campus Safety Rutgers has it's own police department, it doesn't rely on New Brunswick PD. RUPD is very vigilant when it comes to crime prevention and its presence around Rutgers is made known. The officers are very friendly and willing to help students out when needed, and make student safety their top priority.

Tips for prospective students Get familiar with the bus system prior to day one of classes. Get involved on campus, whether it's within your dorm, athletics, club, or a student organization.
Academic Rigor It's not always easy. The workload can be overwhelming around mid-terms/finals, but it all really depends on your major.
Food and Dining Good selection in dining hall. Certain theme nights throughout the week. Plenty of places nearby off-campus as well.
What to do for fun Plenty of clubs and student organizations holding on-campus events. Lots of places to go to eat, drink, and hang out throughout New Brunswick as well.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences When I initially began attending Rutgers I was overwhelmed by the size of the university and I felt terribly alone and insignificant. Having always attended smaller schools, including my previous college, the change was frightening. Now that I have met a few kind people, I have learned that Rutgers University is a community, and everyone from staff to alumni cares to aid in the success of the students.
Tips for prospective students I recommend that you study diligently and become familiar with your professors. If you intend to become involved in certain organizations on campus, fill certain positions, or apply for certain scholarships you will need the recommendations of staff. Take your education seriously! This is a major university and being a part of such a demanding academic atmosphere will speak volumes for you later in life. Don't take this opportunity for granted. This university can make you very marketable to other universities and graduate schools as well.

Dorm Life I do not dorm.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers has a wide variety of options for various, diverse students. Housing is offered in four different campuses and there are different options available as well. You can also live off-campus if you want to save money too. The food is great because it's all-you-can-eat in the dining hall.
Tips for prospective students Try to know what you want to do early. That way, you won't have to be in school for many years -- and it will save you money!
Academic Rigor There are a huge variety of courses available for students. Of course, the higher classes (300-400 levels) are more difficult than the introductory 100-200 level classes.
Dorm Life It's great to be able to live with friends and have an independent life away from your parents for a few months. It gives an advantage for those who want to have a fun social life because your friend (or even roommate) is so close by.
Food and Dining Food offered on campus depends on meal swipes. YOU NEED MEAL SWIPES to go to the dining hall (unless a friend guest swipes you in). The dining hall offers a variety, all-you-can-eat environment: salad, deli, pasta/pizza, chinese food, dessert. You can also study there too!
What to do for fun People sometimes go to parties for fun. There's also various club meetings to get involved. There are various events year round: Dance Marathon, Rutgers Day, Club DM, Relay for life walk-a-thon.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers is one of the best choices I've made in my life. It's fun, energetic, enjoyable, and everything you want it to be. You can do whatever you want and like whenever you want to, just because there's so many things to do on and around campus at all times of the day.
Tips for prospective students Have fun, be yourself, join clubs, and enjoy college, but don't forget to go to class! Don't skip classes, don't procrastinate homework to do something fun with your friends when you know you won't have time later, and always keep in mind your prerequisite classes when registering for classes.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor isn't too strenuous as long as you can manage your time well and you don't waste your time when it comes to schoolwork. Of course you're going to have to spend time at school doing schoolwork, but you won't spend more time than is necessary as long as you stay on top of your work.
Dorm Life Dorm life is extremely fun. Living on campus for freshman year opened up a lot of opportunities and enabled me to have a very large group of friends. Keeping your door open and just saying hi to everybody you see allows you to have a fun time. They'll never let you get bored since there's always something to do and so many people to get to know.
Food and Dining The dining hall on each campus all differ when compared to each other in taste. The new dining hall on Livingston campus is probably the best dining hall that's close to other campuses but the Cook/Douglass dining hall might be the best over all. The worst dining hall is the one on College Avenue, and the one that's not great but it isn't horrible is the dining hall on Busch.
What to do for fun There's a lot of things to do on and around campus for fun. There's movie theaters near campus, bowling alleys, malls, and fast food restaurants. There's a lot of restaurants on College Avenue, so if you get tired of dining hall food, you can eat there. Also, Greek Row is on College Avenue, so if the fraternities and sororities throw a BBQ or something to get to know the brothers and sisters, you can always go to see if Greek life is for you. Also, there's going to be a movie theater on Livingston campus so if you want to go watch a movie, there's always that. Also, inside many of the freshmen dorms, there are pool tables, ping pong tables, and foosball tables. There's a lot of things to do on and around Rutgers campuses, it's just what you want to do that makes your college experience.
Bang for the buck For in-state students, Rutgers is pretty expensive, compared to what other in-state students pay for their state colleges in other states, and for out of state students, it's pretty cheap compared to other state colleges. However, it's pretty easy to get financial aid and work-study programs. Also, there are many job opportunities on and around campus so there's always a way to get money. And Rutgers isn't bad for the price you pay.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Some unusual locations on campus are the squeaky circles. On campus, there are pathways with circles in the path, and most of the time, if you clap in the circle, you'll hear a squeak.
Great for these types of students Rutgers is great for all types of students, with people who enjoy studies and also for people who enjoy social activities more than just their studies.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities for students to join on campus. Some types of clubs and activities include a capella groups, dance teams, Christian organizations, ethnic-interest clubs, plays, 5-k runs, and dance marathons.
Greek Life Greek life is there for people who wish to join, and also is not in your face all the time if you don't particularly care for it. For those who are interested, Greek life is something that many people see as something to be proud of when pledging and becoming a member, and also help your future by helping you connect to others. The Greek life on campus is pretty great with many different types of fraternities and sororities for different types of people.
Campus Safety Campus safety is always present for students. You can always see them patrolling around in their cars and making sure people are behaving. Also, whenever there's a crime, you are always notified by a crime alert email, which gives details about the crime and also tips on how to stay safe.

Tips for prospective students Be involved.
Academic Rigor Sometimes things can get tough and they do.
Dorm Life I prefer not to live in a dorm unless i have to.
Food and Dining There are a good amount of choices and selections but after a year you get used to it too much.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers is a large university, and honestly, not always the best for everybody as each person is different from one another. However, Rutgers slowly can become a home away from home with new friends and experiences. The campus itself is beautiful, but can be dangerous like every other place in the world.
Tips for prospective students When you take your placement exams, take them seriously as they really do affect what math and English class you receive. Try your best to begin preparing for time management skills for studying, doing homework, and making time for friends. Prepare to get used to large lecture halls with 300+ students, but also try to get to know some. Those people can help you with assignments and in study groups. Like in high school, try to build a relationship with a professor for recommendation letters and for advice for your future.
Academic Rigor Academics will be hard. Pre-calculus is hard unless you really go for help and practice the problems. The sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.) are also hard unless you really do the work. Make sure you really develop on time management skills because it really does help with keeping track of classes and allows for better retention on the material being learned.
Dorm Life Sometimes, the hallways will be loud after quiet hours, especially when people come back from parties. Sometimes, the bathrooms will be a mess or feel uncomfortable. You won't always like the people on your floor. However, the dorms aren't that bad. Like any other place, it just takes time to get used to things. Dorms are honestly the best way to get to know people and find common areas of studies to get help in.
Food and Dining People will say that Brower Commons (College Ave) is disgusting. To be honest, getting lunch there is not that bad. It can be disgusting with the appearance of the dining hall, but it's manageable. Busch is quite good with the food, especially getting the cooked-to-serve pasta. However, the pasta line can get really long. Livingston, with its new dining hall, is pretty great, especially the pub area where you can order a burger with fries and some other additions on the computers. At Cook/Douglass, you can go spend your meal swipes to get sandwiches and it has pretty good food.
What to do for fun There are recreational activities like kendo, ballroom dancing, yoga, tae kwan do, and more. It does cost some money, but it is worth it to do something and to meet new people. The Rutgers Zone is a great place for ice cream, games, and watching sports. Sometimes, there are even film festivals taking place. All it takes is just some looking around and keeping an ear out for this stuff.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Physics and Astronomy building is open on the first Thursday night of the month to go on the roof and go stargazing. It's free and quite enjoyable, but make sure to dress warmly. The Charity Bedrace is an event where students can decorate a bed and actually race it against other teams. It's a really good cause and loads of fun, either participating or watching.
Campus Safety Rutgers tries its best to keep its students safe. There are times where people will be beaten up, assaulted, and burglaries, but safety relies on common sense and knowing when to call for the authorities. Don't walk around by yourself or even just one other person. Have a group of people with you (3 or 4 other people). Keep your personal belongings secure. Lock your doors and actually use the peep holes to see who is outside the door. If you can't see out of your peep hole, ask who is out there to confirm. If the person is unfamiliar in voice or simply unexpected, call the RA on duty (if you have the number) or RUPD if you don't feel safe. Safety goes both ways. The university will do their best but it also relies on you.

Bang for the buck The price that Rutgers charges is not that much. It was offered the chance to become a ivy league school but turned it down to stay affordable for everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's the tillet circle where you can relax outside on a nice day and also the student centers have turned into hangout spots.
Great for these types of students Rutgers is great for all types of students. The campus is huge but you will make friends and enjoy it.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers has the best of everything: we are close to a city, but we also have a farm on campus! We are very school spirited and like to have fun, but we also know when to buckle down and study! It's the perfect choice for everyone because there are so many options.
Tips for prospective students Live on Livingston as a freshman! Some people may tell you that Livingston is bad, but it has been one of the best experiences I've had here! Livingston is full of freshman so everyone is in the same boat.
Academic Rigor Rutgers is a world renowned university and the classes are tough! There are many amazing professors here, many of them who do research and will allow you to assist them in their research.
Dorm Life Living on campus is the best choice especially for freshman. While not all the dorms may be air conditioned, it's still an experience that every freshman should go through!
Food and Dining I really like all the dining halls except for Brower (College Ave).
What to do for fun Rutgers is a large university so there is something fun for everyone! There are parties every weekend, but there are other things to do for people who aren't into partying.
Bang for the buck Rutgers is pretty expensive, but probably less than a private university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Stan The Motivational Bus Driver- he preaches to and praises all the students on his bus!
Great for these types of students EVERYONE
Clubs and Activities Any club/activity you can imagine!
Greek Life It's there if you want it, but if you're not part of it, it's no big deal. The frats are constantly throwing parties!
Campus Safety Rutgers is by New Brunswick which is a pretty sketchy area.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The school is huge and has a large student body. Nearly anything is available for you to do, both in the classroom and outside the classroom. Sometimes the school can feel a little impersonal.
Tips for prospective students You can certainly have fun here, but this is also a school where you can get a great education and be well on your way to an excellent career if you choose to take advantage of even a fraction of what's available to you.
Academic Rigor Class is tough, especially engineering classes. There should be no doubt that employers will recognize you went to an academically rigorous school. However, this isn't an Ivy League (as much as some would like to say it is) and certainly isn't Stanford or MIT, etc. so I can't in good faith give it 5 stars.
Dorm Life Dorm life is fine. Certain dorms are great and certain dorms are not. I think most generic dorms are par for the course based on what I have seen nationwide while some are absolutely excellent. The B.E.S.T. Hall dorms (Busch Engineering Science and Technology) are awesome, as are the Livingston Apartments. If you do your research and apply early you can get a great dorm.
Food and Dining I think the food is better than I expected but it gets old fast, even though the dining staff clearly tries very hard to make meals fresh, new, and pretty tasty. Livingston Dining Hall is brand new and worth the trip while Brower on the College Ave. Campus is awful. Busch and Nielson are in between.
What to do for fun There is a club for just about any hobby/activity. Sports are big if you like spectating or playing. The social scene is great as well. I'd give it 5 stars if I had a rating section for this part.
Bang for the buck I think academically the school is still very strong for what it costs...with one caveat. I think this school is NOT worth the cost if you're paying out of state tuition.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We sometimes steal a cannon from Princeton and they steal it back, but they put it in cement. The football games have some traditions.
Great for these types of students Great for the social student who likes lots of friends. Also great for athletes. There is a campus for the more quiet type of student on Cook, which is secluded in a woodsy area. The hardcore nerd types will be at home on Busch. It's a huge school, there's a niche for all students.
Clubs and Activities I've already said before, clubs here are active and display great variety.
Greek Life In my personal opinion, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs has been too strict and constricting on Greek Life, especially in recent years.
Campus Safety If you aren't very foolish (dumb), then you will be safe. There will always be people in life who get themselves into trouble though.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers University is amazing university for an affordable price. Though it may cost more than a CUNY, the experience surpassed my expectations. This particular campus offers plenty of options for a student unsure of what to study.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus and get a feel for the student life and the academics. Rutgers University, though, it may be a state university can get expensive when you choose to live on campus, so visit the financial aid office often and ask about federal aid options. Also come to the school with an open mind, this campus is filled with tons of people from different backgrounds and have different ideals.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, the rating can be completely different. However, even the simplest classes can challenge you. I don't think there is a class that is deemed an easy A. Every class requires tons of work OUTSIDE of the classroom. If you should have any issues with your assignments, be sure to contact your professor and show that you are more than willing to learn. He or she might boost your grade just by knowing your name.
Dorm Life Dorm Life is absolutely one of the best experiences I've had at Rutgers. New Brunswick is comprised of 5 different campus, which were once separate institutions of their own, and all of them have a different culture. For the students that love convenience, and prefer being close to the nightlife, College Avenue is your best bet. College Ave has access to all the surrounding campuses and it is basically where the party lives. For the laid back types who appreciate being around nature, then Cook and/or Douglass is for you. The dorms aren't the best, in comparison to the luxury dorms on George Street, but they are pretty spacious and often a variety. Also hands down, the Nelson dining hall is by far the BEST dining hall at Rutgers New Brunswick. Take out is more appetizing and the food selection is vast. The classroom buildings are surrounded by vast grassy lands as you go further into the campus. At the tip, closer to College Avenue, you get more of a small-town feel. These campuses are considered quieter and easier to find a night of silence, especially if you need to study. Livingston used to be the least desirable campus, with the worst dining hall and even worse residence halls. However now Livingston is going through a beautification project that is aimed at attracting more students. Back when, all the campuses were colleges, Livingston was indeed the easiest to get into. Now lastly, Busch is one of the biggest campuses that is far too confusing for me. It was geared towards the science, math or engineering students because all of those departments are usually based on this particular campus. It has a more suburban feel, but the dorms are comfortable. Also the dining hall is ALMOST as good as the one on Douglass/Cook campus.
Food and Dining As I had mentioned in the dorm life, the food experience is diverse! The best dining halls are Nelson and Busch. The dining halls are offer special events that all the students know and love, including King Neptune Night (Seafood, all day) and MidKnight Breakfast (which is always around finals time!). Off campus food is definitely a high point, Rutgers is infamous for their Fat Sandwiches which could be bought off of a stationary truck that offer all different types of fried goods in one sandwich. The first time I had a fat sandwich was my freshman year and I loved the Fat Mojo, which was chicken fingers, mozzerella sticks, french fries and honey mustard all jammed in between a nice bread roll. Amazing! Also a lot of restaurants on Easton Avenue and George Street offered diverse food selection at affordable prices.
What to do for fun Rutgers has an amazing nightlife, from house and frat parties to a good selection of bars. Also New Brunswick has three amazing theaters that show musicals and plays. It's like being on Broadway, but for way cheaper. Also the school often has concerts featuring famous artists. I have seen 112, Trey Songz, Common, Ginuwine, NERD, Fabolous, The Roots and even Pitbull while attending Rutgers.
Bang for the buck Considering the fact that I lived on a dorm, I thought I fared pretty well. However, I was an out-of-state student so tuition was still expensive. In comparison to Ivy League schools and private institutions, you do save a lot for the same quality of education.
Clubs and Activities Rutgers has an amazing amount of student organizations that cater to just about any student and they often acquaint you with other students and possible new friends!
Greek Life Greek Life is serious at Rutgers and philanthropy is the name of the game! Though, at times, Rutgers has experienced shutting down a few sororities and fraternities, there is a bevy of different cultural, academic or just fun Greek organizations that diversify your college experience.
Campus Safety New Brunswick isn't the safest neighborhood, so you must be smart about what you do and when you do it. The campus police aren't always there and though studying late seems like a great idea, you should really consider that when you're heading home after 10pm. There have been many robbery incidents and even shootings at Rutgers, which have to do (sometimes) with the residents of New Brunswick. So think twice about roaming George Street by yourself at night.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers an extremely diverse school with great school spirit. The extra-curricular activities offered are endless and there is something for everyone. Lastly, it is a very good school, academically.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! You will make new friends, focus on something other than school work, and build up your resume. Also, when classes get tough, don't forget to leave some time for fun.
Academic Rigor Your major really will determine how hard your classes are.
Dorm Life Living in the dorm was the best year of my life!
Food and Dining There are 4 dining halls to choose from and places to get food all over the main campus. You will never go hungry.
What to do for fun There are 5 fitness centers, great night life, and plenty of people to hang out with.
Bang for the buck Good education for an in-state price.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus All of the dining halls have specialty nights. My favorite is King Neptune night. All you can eat lobster, crab, and other types of fish just for a meal swipe!
Great for these types of students Realistically, there is something for EVERYONE
Clubs and Activities Hundreds of great clubs to choose from. You can join multiple clubs for your major or find something that is purely for enjoyment. Many intramural and club sports for people who enjoy sports but do not want the commitment of a Division 3 Level.
Greek Life I am not involved in Greek Life but many of my friends are and say it was the best decision they ever made.
Campus Safety I have never felt unsafe on campus. There is constantly RU Police patrolling the campus and each student is sent a crime alert in the event that a crime has occurred.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers is educationally a very good school. I feel that I am getting a quality education. The layout of the school however, keeps me from really liking it.
Tips for prospective students LIVE WHERE YOUR CLASSES WILL BE. Taking the bus to every single one of your classes will drive you insane. Math/Pharm/Engineering= Busch, Life sciences/music= Cook-Douglas, Business= Livingston, Humanities= College Ave. Not all of your classes will be there obviously, but it will make your life SO much easier if you live near your area of interest/ major classes. Also if you think you will be tempted to party very often, don't live on college ave, it will impede your academics.
Academic Rigor I would say 3.5, classes (at least at the level I have taken) aren't that bad. Some are more rigorous than others, but they do require some degree of effort. If you feel really lost in a class a think you might fail, GET HELP. I made this mistake and ended up failing because I didn't find a tutor or talk to my profesor. It's hard in such a large lecture, but really try.
Dorm Life I have to be fair and say it really depends on where you live. I didn't reallly like my dorm this year that much, but I've visited other people before who really love theirs. As a freshman, you won't have any choice beyond requesting a campus, but there is a possibility of switching if you really hate it.
Food and Dining Again, really depends on your campus. College Ave Dining I would give a 1.5, Busch a 3, Livingston and Cook/Doug a 4.
What to do for fun People do party a lot, not going to lie. But I would say there's definitely other things to do. If you have a friend with a car you have some extra freedom. Otherwise you can get roundtrip bus tickets to NYC for $15, which I always find really fun.
Great for these types of students Really anyone, I feel like you just have to be ok with the bus system and be willing to make friends.
Clubs and Activities SO MANY CHOICES. you really just have to go to the involvement fair and see what you want to do. Rutgers has a LOT of clubs. you just have to get out there and attend some meetings.
Greek Life Not really an expert on this, but there are A LOT of frats and sororities.
Campus Safety I had my bike stolen once, but they caught the guy... so it's pretty good? I've never felt unsafe on campus before.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rutgers prides itself on being a diverse community and does a pretty good job of keeping to their word. There are so many opportunities to choose from and people to meet that no two Rutger's experiences are alike but they are all enriching and fun. The one downside to Rutger's is the buses because they are terrible but that is a small price to pay for having so many awesome campus options.
Tips for prospective students Keep your grades up and don't slack off senior year. While Rutger's has a reputation for being an easy school because it's a state institution their standards are rising every year and if you don't work hard you might not get accepted.
Academic Rigor Depending on the classes you take the classes can be quite challenging, especially in the sciences. 101 classes aren't as bad and some can be considered an easy A, except for Expos which is very tough, but once you get into your major classes the professors crack down and you must work hard or risk failing.
Dorm Life There are many dorm options at Rutger's such as regular dorms, Suites, Apartments, etc. Each has a different atmosphere but one thing is the same for most dorms, especially freshman ones. Come Thursday night the hallways will be loud, very loud, no matter what time of the year it is. Other than that the dorms range from being terrible, like the Towers on Livingston that don't have air conditioning and feel like an oven, to wonderful like Stonier which is an air-conditioned dorm with bathrooms in every room.
Food and Dining Rutger's food ranges form terrible to delectable depending on which campus you are eating on. My recommendation is to avoid Brower, the College Ave dining hall, at all costs unless you're craving one of their twelve ice cream flavors. Livingston is the best with it's brand new facilities and awesome food selections. Busch is second best but first in the pasta cook to order department. It's delicious and worth the wait. Besides the dining halls there are a bunch of other places to eat in the student centers and around college ave, all of which are good and most of which are cheap. Best part is they all accept RU Express.
What to do for fun There is so much to do at Rutger's from joining a club to signing up for a gym class or even just walking around campus. college ave and downtown New Brunswick are filled with fun places to eat with your friends and all there is always an event to go to. Livingston's Rutgers Zone holds daily events and gives out free Thomas Sweets Ice Cream which if you don't know already is AMAZING.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences there are always bus stops and buses everywhere. food always available in student centers, dining halls, and takeout. so many places to go and study or use computers.
Tips for prospective students look at every campus and douglass if you are a girl because they have a lot of benefits. buses kind of suck now because it is a new company. livingston campus is overcrowded even though they have new apartments, so people will push and shove you to get onto a bus.
Dorm Life i lived on douglass bunting-cobb and i made lots of friends and it was just a lot of fun.
Food and Dining their grilled chicken is usually raw, i like the cook/douglass dining hall best, but busch is also nice.
What to do for fun you can go into new brunswick and the state theater plus a lot of nice places to eat. there are always things going on around the school in different campus centers.
Bang for the buck it is pretty expensive and the dorms kind of suck. you pay a lot for food and it usually is not that great.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus football games are so much fun, it is just crazy and there are just so many kids in the student section
Great for these types of students they have so many majors and minors and they give opportunities for minor or double major options
Clubs and Activities there are so many.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences rutgers university has a lot to offer as a large state school. it has reasonable in-state tuition and is a great research institute. there are many programs, clubs, and organizations that any person can find for their liking.
Tips for prospective students take advantage of all the opportunities available at this school. there are hundreds of clubs and organizations as well as greek life, so everyone can find something that they enjoy. it is also a nation-renowned research institute. research is a great way to get hands-on experience with professors who are top professionals in their fields. there are many things to do at rutgers and new students will never be bored!
Academic Rigor i have taken a variety of classes at rutgers university and must say that science classes are challenging for the student. they prepare a student on how to do intense studying, which is key when applying to medical school or any competitive graduate program. the classes are enjoyable and taught by professors who love what they do.
Dorm Life dorming is definitely part of the college experience. the dorms at rutgers are nicer than ones that i have seen at other schools. now, there are new on campus apartments that are fully equipped with dish washers, tv's, fridges, and anything a student could need.
Food and Dining there are four different dining halls, one on each campus, and many other places to eat on each campus. each dining hall has top chiefs working with a great staff. there is a variety of food at each location, and they accommodate people with special dietary needs, such as vegetarian or kosher meals.
What to do for fun there is always something going on at rutgers. clubs and organizations always have meetings and events throughout the semester. there are also many events on campus such as movie showings, football games, and various guest speakers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there are many great places to eat on college ave, on easton ave or george street. there are many affordable places that have great food and plenty of bars along easton ave.
Campus Safety the campus is a safe environment. of course, it is not smart to walk outside alone at three in the morning because the school is located in a city. however, there are police officers and rutgers police that have been trained by the new jersey police department always on campus patrolling for the students' safety.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences a nice university with a good location and great resources.
Tips for prospective students lots of things need to be done on the internet but somehow it's not easy to find what you want on the school website. be sure to talk to every dean and adviser you can before trying to get things done on your own computer.
Academic Rigor professors (well, at least for my major) are all very informed and welling to help students. many chances for students to do independent study and achieve your own academic goal. also many great opportunities for students to go on study abroad.
Dorm Life the dorms on the two older campus (i won't say which two, google your self) are all kind of old and dusty, but if you are looking for new england style they could be nice. all dorms are closed during holidays, so it could be hard for international students.
Food and Dining foods in the dinning hall are nice, just nice. but there are only one dinning hall on each campus so if your dorm is far away from it you better not take any meal plan.
What to do for fun it's about a half hour bus ride to get to the shopping mall. many restaurants on college ave. (well, if you don't have a budget)
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the fat sandwiches sold on college ave campus with french fries, cheese burger, and many other things all in one sandwich...

Dorm Life do not live in the towers. it's super loud and everyone who lives there are irresponsible, immature, jerks.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences rutgers is a very diverse community with many difference races. the campus is huge and traveling to classes can sometimes be a hassle with the buses and amount of people going to school here. although, the school is huge they still manage to stay very organized.
Tips for prospective students if you are planning on driving, you must get a parking permit or there is no where on campus to park and you will get a ticket. this school is very spread out and big, so may not be good for someone who isn't ready for this atmosphere. make sure you are motivated to attend your classes, therefore, register early to get times you will be sure to get to.
Academic Rigor attendance policy at rutgers is very strict. for most classes, if you miss more than four classes you automatically fail. therefore, you must be dedicated and motivated. classes vary on assignments and level, it usually depends on the teacher.
Dorm Life i currently do not dorm, since i came in as a transfer i wasn't into the dorm experience. however, my friends have informed me of all of the great ways dorm life helps you make friends and get involved with the community. there are always fun activities happening at the dorms.
Food and Dining the food is pretty good. they have a wide variety for everyone. however, without a food plan it can be a little pricey.
What to do for fun the famous grease trucks, fitness classes offered at the school, going to the gym, activities at the dorms, going out on george street, join a fraternity or sorority, take the train to nyc which isn't too far.
Bang for the buck rutgers is a very competitive school to be accepted into, and has a great reputation. the state school price is very cheap compared to other schools, while still having just as good of a reputation.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus none that i am aware of yet, since i am still new.
Great for these types of students diverse, motivated, hard working, outgoing and patient.
Clubs and Activities being a commuter, it is hard for me to find out about clubs and activities so i wish they would advertise this more. however, my friend who dorms is in multiple clubs and really enjoys them.
Greek Life there are tons of sororities and fraternities to join, that do a lot of advertising. however, i am not interested in this.
Campus Safety there is always security around anytime of the day or night. also, there are emails sent to us every time something bad happens at school or in the new brunswick community.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences one of the best things about ru-new brunswick is its 5-campus system. every campus has its own unique personality, so prospective students can find the living environment that suits them. each campus is a short bus ride away, and it really helps create a small-college feel, even though ru-nb is a huge school...you'll never really feel lost in the crowd here!
Tips for prospective students join a club!! ru-nb offers hundreds of clubs, activities, job opportunities, and community service options to choose from. joining a club or activity of some sort is a really easy way to make friends while acclimating to ru-nb your first year. while rutgers is a big school, it won't feel so big when you start to meet more and more people!
Academic Rigor most of my professors received their education (and phd's) from top notch schools and ivy leagues. there's no question that next to princeton, an education from rutgers new brunswick is the best you can receive in new jersey. i've never come across a professor that did not know their subjects inside and out, and most really know how to teach as well, which is not always the case with professors in general.
Dorm Life dorm life at ru-nb is awesome.. there are so many different types of housing to choose from (apartments, suites, regular dorms, singles, etc) and different campuses, it's really unique. for two years i have participated in their living-learning communities, which have helped me greatly.
Food and Dining i gave them a 3 for this because some of their dining halls are spectacular, some are highly lacking. new livingston commons, busch dining hall, and nielson are all pretty good. brower commons on the other hand is sorely lacking and reminds me of a high school cafeteria (though they do have the largest selection of ice cream!)
What to do for fun there are tons of things to do at ru. given its location, you have easy access to public transportation (namely the nb trainstation and bus system), and it's quite easy to get to nyc and philly. you can always join clubs or sports teams, get into greek life, community service, and more!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i am so glad i picked rutgers, new brunswick to attend. yes, it is a huge campus, but it offers so much to all students and gives you the opportunity to interact with a very diverse student body. instructors are hands-on and accommodating to students.
Tips for prospective students get involved with all the opportunities the college offers. there are many clubs, sports and various entertainment options available. take advantage of all that the school offers and you will have a wonderful college experience.
Academic Rigor the classes are challenging and to get in, you have to be at the top of your game in high school.
Dorm Life dorms range from average to great.
Food and Dining i have no complaints about the many dining options or the great food you get to choose from. just watch out for the freshman 15 because it is easy to gain with all delicious options that are offered.
What to do for fun with sporting events, parties, sorority and fraternity organizations and the close proximity to new york the options are plentiful.
Bang for the buck with the rising cost of a college education, rutgers offers a great deal for the money along with being a state college. the price tag is lower than private schools and ranks as high if not higher than the top notch expensive universities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus at commencement the breaking of clay pipes over the class of 1877 cannon monument takes place to symbolize the breaking of ties with the college. the school is steeped in tradition since it is one of first nine colleges founded in the united states.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences there is never a dull moment at rutgers! the eclectic mix of people here have really made it feel special and the experiences i've had my freshman year have truly made me a better person. it's easy to get caught up in this big school but the greatest gift it has given me is profound independence.
Tips for prospective students it's very easy to get lost here; in work, school, stress, fun, all of it. the biggest thing you have to remember is school needs the most attention, prioritizing is key. make lists, set schedules, ask for help if you need it, falling behind in the beginning of the semester will do you no good.
Academic Rigor classes require hours of studying and prep outside of lectures and recitations, but help is readily available if you need it so take advantage!
Dorm Life the rooms (at least on livingston) are a nice size compared to most schools. closet size is respectable, bathrooms are easily accessible and clean. laundry rooms are a bit of a walk but connected to the building.
Food and Dining personally not the dining hall's number one fan, being that i'm a vegetarian and i don't find as many options as i would like that coincide with my meat-free lifestyle
What to do for fun i absolutely adore and recommend the rutgers university seeing eye puppy raising club, it's a beautiful opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary community service of raising service dogs and it's the greatest stress reliever our there!
Bang for the buck i am so thankful for the opportunities that rutgers offers through the many unique clubs/associations/affiliations that they offer. this is also very much a college town with discounts, benefits and privileges bestowed upon fellow students throughout the neighboring community.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus passion puddle is quite a known spot around campus, it is said that if you and your partner walk around the puddle three times you will be together forever.
Great for these types of students students who enjoy a fast paced kind of school with lots of people and an urban sort of feel
Clubs and Activities too many to count, but two that i've found to be very welcoming are the queer student alliance (qsa) and the rutgers university seeing eye puppy raising club. there is truly something here for everyone, hundreds of organizations to choose from!
Campus Safety rupd is quick to respond and i've never felt unsafe at rutgers. mounted patrol (volunteers who patrol on horseback at night on certain campuses) are not only a comfort but very nice people who make night life that much safer.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is an incredibly diverse university. It features programs and majors ranging from all sides of the spectrum. It is a big school that can feel like a small home.
Tips for prospective students Definitely check it out and visit for yourself.
Make sure that you research each individual campus because anyone can fit into at least one of the different atmospheres.
Ask tons of questions and do not hesitate in contacting a student that is already enrolled--everyone is extremely friendly. What to do for fun The College Ave Campus branches out into downtown New Brunswick so there is always a cute place to eat or shop. Besides that, the university itself is constantly holding multiple events a day--it's all on you to pick and choose what you'd like to do.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I think Rutgers university is an amazing place to receive schooling. The people are very friendly and the work load is not that bad if you were smart enough to get admission. Everyone also has a lot of school spirit and pride in Rutgers.
Tips for prospective students I think you should definitely work hard in school to be able to attend Rutgers because it does not get easier from high school. But, once you d get in it will be an amazing experience from the academics to the night life.
Academic Rigor The work is not too hard to handle if you were accepted to Rutgers. If you were on the fence of acceptance, you're going to have to work hard.
Dorm Life Dorm life is really fun for the first year. It allows you to meet new people and get friends because everyone else is new as well and are open to new friendships.
Food and Dining The food is average. It depend what campus you are on, but overall the food is good and they give a lot of options usually. There are also many off campus dining options because you will be in the center of New Brunswick.
What to do for fun The night life is really fun because there are both frats and house parties. There are also museums and the downtown New Brunswick area where you can go shopping or go out to eat with your friends.
Bang for the buck Rutgers is affordable and is also sympathetic with financial aid situations. You can't beat what you get for the price.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The entire campus is unusual because there are 5 of them all with unique vibes. The grease trucks are another unique and famous Rutgers location.
Great for these types of students Great for any type of student. Everyone fits in at Rutgers.
Clubs and Activities There are a ton of clubs to get involved in. There is something for everyone for sure.
Greek Life There are a lot of different frats and sororities to get involved in. The Greek life is involved in community service and are very welcoming.
Campus Safety As much as the police tries, Rutgers is still in the middle of New Brunswick which is not the best area. Although not in a good area, there are few assaults or break ins to speak of if the house is taken care of.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors at Rutgers are great. Classes taken as a freshmen or early within a major are often very large. However, if a student isn't afraid to ask questions, position themselves towards the front of the room (or where they can be seen/heard) and become known to their professor, the size of the class doesn't affect much. The work is hard, but unlike high school it is often thought provoking in an interesting way that intrigues the student and keeps their attention.
Am enjoying being here I love it at Rutgers! The people I've met here so far are great. I love my roommate, where I live, the food, I actually don't mind the buses (but that's rare). I never wanted to go to Rutgers either. I always wanted to go out of state to somewhere new. But, after the first few days of first semester I definitely knew I was in the right place.
Bang for the buck College is way over priced across the board. Being that I stayed in state, I saved a lot. Rutgers, is also one of the highest priced in state schools though. If you live in New Jersey I definitely suggest applying to Rutgers. It's a great education, a great name, and a bargain compared to out of state schools. But, it's still not cheap.
Tips for prospective students Rutgers is an amazing school. The people here are great. You quickly realize your professors are the best of the best and if you succeed here you can succeed in the real world. However, it's not a school for the timid. Crazy bus systems, daunting amounts of work and studying, and huge class sizes mean that you must be able to make yourself known to your professors and TAs. However, if you do that they are extremely accommodating and knowledgable.
Great for these types of students Rutgers is a great school for out-going, hardworking students. Those receptive to criticism as a way of learning, large class sizes, and competition in the classroom will definitely do well here..

Categories Rating Comments Bang for the buck DO NOT buy your books from the campus bookstores unless you absolutely have to. Try amazon.com or various other sites before turning to the campus stores- you'll save big and maybe even make a profit at the end of the semester when you sell your books back.
Tips for prospective students Rutgers is a party school, but only if you decide to make it one. Get your work done first and then party later- by Sunday afternoon you won't want to do anything but zone out. Also, make sure that you're aware of the Core requirements for ALL Undergrads- even if you fulfill all your major requirements, you can't graduate until these are done.
Great for these types of students Fun-loving, hard workers, studious, not too serious- Rutgers has something for everyone, it's very easy to find a place where you belong when there's so many great options.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I always learn so much in my classes! From my major related classes to my electives I'm always learning and meeting new people.
Am enjoying being here I love being at Rutgers because I'm always close to my friends, you can go out whenever you want, it's fun to go to the dining hall with your friends, and the campus centers have plenty of games to play!
Bang for the buck Classes are pretty great, but there's always that one boring class you don't like. Just have to get through it! But there's the dining hall which is like an all you can eat buffet every day for every meal! Everything at Rutgers makes the tuition price worth it!
Tips for prospective students Try to choose a dorm that's close to where you need to go (dining hall, classes, computer labs, etc.) because in the winter you won't mind leaving your dorm so much!
Great for these types of students Rutgers is great if you can work hard. If you did well in high school, Rutgers won't be too bad. If you procrastinate, then things might get a little rough, but there's also plenty of free time of hangout with friends and even take a day trip to New York every once in a while!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Not only have I learnt a great deal academically, but I've learnt a lot about myself in the process. The majority of the professors are knowledgeable, approachable, patient and always helpful with my studies, especially during their office hours. With the university being large, however, it did prove difficult at times to find the right lecture hall or classrooms: but a quick overview of the Campus maps online as well as a helpful passerby will get you through. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable: Perhaps too comfortable at times, as one tends to fall asleep.
Rutgers offers great diversity and with that I’ve learnt about people and their various cultures. I wouldn’t necessarily say every acquaintance I’ve made was positive, but with every person I met, I at least learnt a new way to approach different situations or to view things in a different light. Being a new resident of New Jersey I’ve also been given the opportunity to learn about the state itself. The grounds of Rutgers alone hold intriguing history.
There are also a number of programs Rutgers offers like AIMS, ODASIS and LSAMP that help you to succeed academically. I gave Rutgers 5 stars in this aspect particularly because of all the opportunities offered for students to succeed. However, it’s up to you whether or not to make use of them.Am enjoying being here There’s always something happening at Rutgers to keep you preoccupied; there are concerts, theatre productions,’ ice-cream nights’, rock climbing, club-held water balloon fights and much more activities you’ve possibly never heard of. If you’re a person of the night, you’re in luck because the fraternities host parties almost every day of the week.
The food at Rutgers is a major part of the reason why I gave 5 stars. In the several dining halls, you’re offered a broad range of food. From sushi to custom omelets to all the baked delicacies you can think of- Rutgers has it all. However, if you ever feel the need for a break from the dining hall food, a variety of restaurants are in walking distance of the campuses.
For those like me, who appreciate nature, the suburban campuses flourish during spring and give you a sight to behold during fall. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see a fox or two as well as other wildlife. The farm on Cook campus allows you to get on an even more personal level with animals.Bang for the buck 3/5 stars because of the expensive housing and out-of-state tuition. Besides that the resources are phenomenal when it comes to availability of information with one of the largest databases and 5 libraries to choose from.
Tips for prospective students 1. Get involved! Not only is it a great way to make friends but it's an opportunity to find activities you enjoy and become a more rounded person.
2. Take Classes you find interesting especially in your first year, before you declare a major.
3. Learn the bus route before your classes start. Trust me it'll save you a lot of frustration! It'll also help to locate the buildings you'll have your classes in beforehand as well.
4. Take advantage of all the learning programs. It may take up time you could use to party but it WILL help in the long run. Some may also give you stipends for textbooks.
5. Wait till you go to a few classes before you buy your textbooks as some professors may not require you to use them. Also it's best to buy your books online(eg. Uloop, Amazon, Ebay) or from previous students rather than at the University bookstore.
6. Take part in the summer programs offered such as Summer Bridge or EOF. You'll be able to make friends before college actually starts and the credits you earn will allow you to take higher level courses in your fall semester.Great for these types of students I honestly can't pinpoint a distinct type of student Rutgers would be best for. The diversity allows a welcome environment for all. Entering a new place in general, you'll find yourself being more open and conversing with people you might not have during High School. Rutgers really is a great place for all kinds of students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At Rutgers University I'm learning about the topics that I am interested in and learning more about myself in the process. I have taken several courses that are useful for my intended major, and have taken electives, such as Consumer Media Culture, that have opened my eyes further.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy living here because of the many activities that are available to me. Rutgers is a very interesting place to live in! During midterms and finals, there are many places to study, and that is very important for a university.
Bang for the buck It isn't the most expensive college, however, I believe that things such as meals are extremely overpriced.
Tips for prospective students I would say enjoy your time at college, because it's going to be one of the only times where you can live with people of your own age, and you have the liberty to do as you please. However, be wise in your decisions, only because you have many liberties doesn't mean you can forget the reason you are in college; to get an education.
Great for these types of students Rutgers is a place for people who are independent or want to become independent. In highschool, I was told that I would hate Rutgers University because it has such a large number of students, and it was known as a party school, yet I still chose to attend and I love it.
So, I would say that Rutgers is a place for many different types of students.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers is hardcore with learning sometimes. And by that I mean cramming a lot into one session (i.e. Pre-calc 115) or killing you in expos. Not studying for these classes will land you a failing grade. Then you have to complete the SAS core curriculum, or SEBS thingy if you're going there. There's a lot to study for! GO TO THE CLASSES PROFESSORS WILL HELP YOU IF YOU ARE.
Am enjoying being here I'm part of the DRC and I love it. If you are a girl be part of Douglas. I don't know what I would've done without a PAL (Peer Academic Leader) during registration. Trust me do it! And try no to party too hard your freshman year and if you do keep it on your campus. You don't want to find yourself alone at night with no idea what to do and drunk.
Bang for the buck It is not cheap but they don't offer cheap services. Like the bus is free. You just get on and it's pretty reliable. The other stuff you have to go out and find.
Tips for prospective students DON'T TAKE PRE-CALC 115. READER BEWARE TAKE PRE-CALC 111 AND 112. I don't care how good you are at math or if you took this course before in high school. This course is designed to flunk people. And if you don't believe me make sure this is your only hard science course. Don't do Chem+115+Expos+Bio or something like that. Choose two and stick to it. And ratemyprofessor will be your best friend!
Great for these types of students Volunteers, Leaders, Go-getters, Scientifically inclined, Intrested in Women and Gender Studies.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here at Rutgers that I have had the pleasure of working with are really nice and helpful. They want you to do well, and are always available whether it is during their office hours, after class, or via email. They make the material interesting which really helps the students to learn. I have had nothing but positive experiences so far.
Am enjoying being here The people I have met so far are great. You meet tons of people from all different parts of New Jersey (sure, there are plenty of people from other states, but a majority are New Jersey born and raised!) You will be surprised with how many people you will meet from your area and from the high schools nearby. But at the same time there are so many people that you will always run into someone new! The social life is great; different clubs and groups and Student Life are always planning fun community events to get you involved, such as bringing LMFAO and the Cataracs to campus, or youtube sensation Karmin. Other events include hot air balloon rides, volleyball tournaments, recreational sports competitions, and soo much more!
Bang for the buck I would definitely say that Rutgers is worth the money spent on tuition and other expenses. You really get a lot! Meal plans, printing plans, and so many resources are all included in tuition. Not to mention the experience is truly worth the cost. Getting financial aid was not difficult at all, and there are many oncampus jobs and payment plans to make financing that much easier.
Tips for prospective students Definitely do well on your SATs, because a score of 1950 opens up more scholarship opportunities and honors classes for incoming students. Also, make sure you study and do all of your homework. I know it's common sense, but a lot of people do not realize how different college really is from high school, so be sure to stay on top of everything. Most professors will not offer extra credit! Also, when dealing with financial aid or student employment DEFINITELY stay on top of it all. Opportunities are always there but are usually nabbed up within the first few weeks of the semester. If you have an issue with anything related to aid or whatnot, be sure to handle it right away.
Great for these types of students All types! There are so many different clubs, groups, types of people, majors, etc. Rutgers is such a huge school. Each campus is like a whole new town, and each is great in its own way. Students who always want to be on the social scene, going out to restaurants and (if you are old enough!) parties or bars can live on College Ave. Students who want a more nature-y feel can live on Cook/ Douglass, which has a farm and lots of scenery. Busch is very spacious and Livingston has brand new dining services and dorms currently being built. The social student, the quiet studious student, and the average joe will all fit in and have an amazing time at Rutgers, and they can all find the campus that feels most like home.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The science program is top notch here at Rutgers. Rutgers offers you 1 credit classes that help you learn your way around from websites to scheduling to networking with teachers. One of these included the director for the Center of Energy, Economic and environmental policy! As a freshman you will learn everything you need to be successful you will get a better idea of what you want to study. In every area of study Rutgers has highly respected professors and nationally ranked programs whether it's math or theater, business or pharmacy.
Am enjoying being here Since coming here I've become much more outgoing, talkative and focused on my goals. The faculty and administration really create a positive environment and I made friends with everyone on my floor on day 1. The buses work well, especially for a city and you'll be guaranteed to find a party. (either having a ratio of girls:guys or giving $5). I've had some good times at the parties, maybe too good of a time, but if you're not into that sort of thing Rutgers programs are always going on from concerts, open mike night, movie showings, comedy shows, live bands, sporting events and. trips to the city/target/six flags. You'll also get a terrific athletic program here as well as organized clubs and D1 football and basketball games. ALso the dining halls are fantastic, Cook/Douglass campus is close to college avenue (classes and parties) has the feel of a smaller college which is great.
Bang for the buck You can't ask for a better education from a state school and It's definitely worth the investment. Rutgers would be a terrific stepping stone towards graduate school and professors, alumni and current students have all found their place at Rutgers.
Tips for prospective students Planning ahead is on of the most important things in college. Making a chart for when assignments are due, researching possible schedules and keeping in touch with teachers and fellow students makes things less chaotic. Also make sure to relax and have a good time. no regrets I always say. Also anything worth doing is worth doing well so put in your full effort and it will pay off!
Great for these types of students Pre-med, sciences, marine biology, business, Mason Grove School of the Arts. I work in the theater as a carpenter and it's amazing how intricate and precise the theater kids are in designing the play sets, costumes and props.
No matter what type of personality you have you'll ALWAYS find someone you get along with great!
Whether you're a partier or very studious (or both!) you'll find everything you want at Rutgers. It is rather large, but there are around 50 deans and you can find help everywhereLogin to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Though some professors are better than others, all professors care and you will learn so much in each lecture. The amount of knowledge that they know is outstanding and you will learn a lot if you really listen. With that said, you will need to teach yourself a lot to understand the content (which will more than likely be on the exam).
Am enjoying being here There's so many students that there's always someone new to meet. It's a lot more diverse than some other schools. Get involved! College is what you make of it.
Bang for the buck It is a great school considering the tuition. The amount of programs available is phenomenal.
Tips for prospective students Do not get behind on the readings. Go to office hours and build a relationship with the teacher. Join clubs!
Great for these types of students Everyone, but Rutgers has amazing science programs, especially for those interested in research or a health profession.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers has plethora of majors to choose from. It also has a large number of minors to choose from. Even though Rutgers is a large school, most of the classes are not as large as they are made out to be. Freshman year and part of sophomore year were the years were I had two or three lecture classes. The professors are great and you really learn a lot! Please careful when picking classes though, some are more interesting than others.
Am enjoying being here I love it here. There is so much to do and a multitude of different scenes. If you like an urban setting, you can always head over to College Ave campus. It is located next to downtown New Brunswick and it has that real city feel. If urban isn't your style, you can always go to Cook/Douglas. It is large and has an abundance natural beauty. Personally, I love Livingston Campus. It is small and tight-knit. The clubs, rec centers, people, and night life are amazing!!!
Bang for the buck Rutgers has the prestige of being a top research university and it is very affordable. It is a quality education and considering that they're are over 300,000 living alumni, chances are one will run into a few Rutgers graduates in the real world.
Tips for prospective students Makes as many connections as you can! Build a large network of people. It is your key to success. The more people you know translates to the more help available when you really need it. Besides, half of it is who you know. Also, don't forget it's college! Have an enjoyable experience, join clubs, but do not fall behind in your academics( it's the number one reason why you're there).
Great for these types of students Anyone who likes medium to big sized schools. Also, for anyone who is unsure about what major to pursue. Rutgers NB is a small city in itself, but it is possible to make small communities. Suddenly, it doesn't seem so big. It offers something for everyone, you just have to give it a try. Rutgers is a great school for anyone, expect for those that cannot adjust to a large and who would prefer very small class sizes from the beginning.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I am part of a college prep program on this campus, and have been for 3 years now, and I can honestly tell you that this is a university that I consider everyone to apply for. The college teachers are very proactive and will help guide you along the way.
Will enjoy being here There is so much to do on, and off campus. Either you are going downtown New Brunswick for shopping and getting together with friends, going down the block for the all-known grease trucks for their notorious fat sandwiches, or even going to the parks. The campus is beautiful so just staying close to it is relaxing.
Bang for the buck From what I have researched and heard, Rutgers University has one of the highest tuition in the nation. Although, Rutgers is a great school, one that was almost considered to be an Ivy-League school. Going to this school, and paying the tuition, is worth.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers is great for anyone that wants to persue science or english related ventures--those being my majors. Both departments are great. Professors are really ensightful and like to see their students do well. And it's not like High School where you learn lesson after boring lesson. The professors talk to you like you're one of them. They crack jokes and share these insightful little tidbits you never knew, and offer tons of extra help if you're having trouble understand something.
Am enjoying being here I love the Rutgers atmosphere. There's four different campuses: Livingiston, Busch, Douglass/Cook, and College Ave, so you never get tired of being in a certain place. If you're sick of Busch, you can go to College Ave, and etc. It's also really easy to find classes, (except for some parts of Douglass, because it's more rural). The faculty and students are also extremely friendly. I made friends quickly and easily and I only knew one person going into my dorm, so no worries.
Bang for the buck Rutgers is pretty cheap for in state students, and it's still reasonable for out of state and international students, especially considering the amount of research opportunities Rutgers gives, and the amount of prestige its faculty has.
Tips for prospective students Always leave AT LEAST a half hour before classes, because the bus drivers can be very temperamental. If you're running to a stop and they're leaving, you have about a fifty percent chance of missing it. Also, get on the bus a couple days before class and find where each building is. The buildings generally aren't hard to find, but there's alot of bus stops and Rutgers is huge, so you need to know what stop to get off at ahead of time, if you don't want to be late.
Great for these types of students Rutgers is great for students that want to meet new people, become independent, and take on change in an academic environment. It's also excellent for anyone interested in scientific undergraduate research (and especially for me, because it's one of the few colleges on the east coast, along with Johns Hopkins, which has a Genetics department and major).

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Like most colleges and universities, it's what you make of it. If you challenge yourself and take difficult and interesting courses, you will learn a lot. Similarly, if you are like some people here and spend hours making sure you pick the easiest classes with the easiest professor, it is likely that you will not learn much.
Am enjoying being here The social life at Rutgers is top-notch. You can easily make friends and there is always something to do. Whether you're into club sports or greek life, you'll definitely be having fun here.
Bang for the buck State-school prices for quality education is what Rutgers is all about. But like I said before, you have to work to make sure your tuition money used. It's pretty easy to take non-challenging courses and 'coast' through your college years.
Tips for prospective students Work hard, play hard. Find a good balance, dont overdo either.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I already met the undergraduate director of the food science department where I will major. He gave me a lot of GREAT pointers on classes and studying food science. I also met one of the graduate professors and he was friendly, helpful, encouraging, and easy to talk to. I think taking classes and learning will be great if it's this easy to talk with professors before I even start classes!
Will enjoy being here It's part city, part suburb. The city isn't that big. It's not too far from home - I'm from out-of-state. It's kind of like there is something for everyone here. If you like it really busy and urban, then live in the city. If you like it more relaxed, then live outside of the city. There are LOTS of special learning communities. I think everyone can find a way to enjoy it here.
Bang for the buck It's not so great if you are from out-of-state. A good deal for in-state though, cuz it's a really good school.
Tips for prospective students Visit the school and take the Scarlet Tour which gives you a bus ride through the entire campus, including all five campuses. Also, if you know what you want to major in, find out what school the major is in and take the specific walking tour of that school/campus. And, if you are female and interested in the sciences, I highly recommend looking into the Douglass campus - women's dorms and programs for supporting women in science. You live there first year and have the option to move to another area on campus (co-ed) after that, but still take advantage of the academic and networking support of Douglass.
Great for these types of students A diverse group of students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Professors are great and really interested in what they are teaching. They go above and beyond to answer questions and generate interest in many topics, even those not directly covered in the course.
Am enjoying being here There is always something to do and somebody to meet. Programs are wide ranging and there are events that appeal to most everyone. There is lots of diversity and the ability to be exposed to many different sorts of activities. Being located in New Brunswick, there are many options for local outings.
Bang for the buck Tuition is pretty high for a public school but it does include many perks such as tickets for sporting games, tee shirts, events, fitness centers, etc. Housing fees also include a micro-fridge and some dorms are air-cooled.
Tips for prospective students Don't rely on people you already know who are going there or in the area and don't go home too often if you live close. Don't get caught up in the bureaucracies that some people face- you are only a number if you make yourself one. Get involved in the tons of options available at a big school.
Great for these types of students Those who are planning on studying pharmacy, engineering, arts, or premed have many resources available at Rutgers. Any one who is independent and likes big settings and seeing new people all of the time will enjoy this school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently attending, the Mason Gross BFA Acting program. It has been judged as one of the top 5 Acting Programs in the country. That is not an exaggeration. I attended many art schools before this and this is the most intensely rewarding programs I've ever attended.
Our day in the acting conservatory day begins at 8:30am and goes relatively non-stop until 6pm. It seems like a lot but it is the best conservatory schedule. We take a morning warm up, voice & speech, movement, and acting. The classes are impossible to describe, but if you want an intense acting program you wouldn't learn more anywhere else. The teachers are some of the most dedicated that I've met.
I also have taken the infamous Expository Writing which is required for all the Rutgers. It is a pain, but you get through it and its over before you know it. Its difficult to get the hang of the writing technique but you get it eventually. It really a class to get through.Am enjoying being here I am enjoying my time. We work hard and play hard here. Being in the acting program we have a built in group of friends. Rutgers is a giant university, and it is understandable that some people feel lost in the main university. But at Rutgers the people are very friendly and you can fall into a group quickly.
Bang for the buck Rutgers is not cheap. But I believe that I'm paying good money for a great education. As an out of state person, I would say make sure your going to school for the right reasons because it is relatively expensive.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students. I would say that you should bring your winter clothes! All in all Rutgers is an ordinary college experience, but a great experience non the less. You'll have an easy time getting around the campuses on the buses, so cars are not super necessary. Pick a dorm that is near to your classes because its difficult to walk around at 8am. I would say get ready for everything you expected college to be.
Great for these types of students I would not say that their is a specific type of student. I would say that if you're looking for a small school, this is not the one.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have recently finished my first year at Rutgers University. The majority of my classes were in big lecture halls so it makes it a bit difficult to have a more personalized and attentive environment. It may be difficult at times to focus due to distractions that surround you. I do enjoy that there are websites that help you catch up and you can do your work anywhere you choose since it is available online. Learning capacity depends heavily on attendance in class, the information you take from class, and the work and mindset you devote to your studies.
Am enjoying being here Rutgers has an extremely diverse amount of students. They have many activities that occur throughout the year so that people can become involved in the campus life even if they are not living there. They also have many offices and people that you may speak to if you have any questions etc. however, this also brings some confusion along with it. I have found that many times I have to call various offices to find out information and in the end, my questions are still not answered. I did like the fact that they offer various seminars such as teaching for example so that a freshman interested in becoming a teacher can start knocking out requirements easily -2 birds with one stone analogy. For example the SAS requirements along with the graduate school requirements.
Bang for the buck In the tuition, they have all these various things that students have to pay for, but many times they are not needed which just becomes a way to inherit more money for the school. They should provide a detailed description of what exactly the student is paying for. The books are also highly expensive!
Tips for prospective students Extracurricular activities are extremely important and valued during admissions. Be careful with sharing rooms with friends, ive heard many stories that you realize how many flaws that person has and you slowly drift apart. Focus on your studies, keeping up a good GPA is mandatory! don't slack off during any year! taking summer classes offers the opportunity to accumulate some more credits and your able to get things out of the way which is much better.
Great for these types of students anyone and everyone! like I have already mentioned this school is very diverse so no one has to feel like they wont fit in or meet the standards..

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers is large Institution with many areas of studies. Their science department is very intensive. I am currently a Freshman at this University who is majoring in possibly Genetics, Cell Biology/Neuroscience or Biological Sciences. I am also planning to minor in Philosophy and Latin. Along with those intended majors and minors, I am doing a Pre-Medicine Tract. These combination is hefty. For the classes required for these majors/minors and tract, they range from meeting once to 3 times a week. Each classes span from 55minutes to 3 hours. There are many classes that you do not have to attend class. This can be helpful if you have to study for other classes. However, you should attend classes if you want to learn more. If you know you can catch up missing one or two classes, then go for it even though I would not recommend it. Some professors will understand if you have a valid excuse, but others are merciless. It really depends on who you have. However, if you are someone who is interested in pre-med, engineering, pharmacy, business or law, you should attend your classes. Rutgers offers intensive classes and they are not easy ones either.
The majors I am looking at are all credit intensive which means there are many classes that I have to fulfill them to maintain a good gpa.
Speaking of GPA, IT IS IMPORTANT. Your GPA is very important if you are looking to get into graduate school or professional school. It is not hard to get a 4.0 GPA nor is it easy. However, this will help many of you let out a sigh of relief, a GPA is not the ONLY thing that is important in going to Medical School (in my case). Another thing that is just as important is how involve you are in what you want to become. For example, Rutgers offer a wide range of extracurricular activities. If they do not have what you want, you can always gather a group of your friends and make one.
Rutgers is definitely a place that offers a lot of experiences and things to learn.Am enjoying being here At first I did not want to go to Rutgers because of its proximity from my home (2 hours), I wanted to go to University of Louisville in Kentucky. However, due to some changes, I changed my mind and went to Rutgers. I am so happy with my my choice. For prospective students living in New Jersey in South jersey or North Jersey, this institution is approximately in the middle so you do not have to fear your parents coming up so often or not at all. Rutgers has a lot to offer, it has the courses and it has the activities. The fun does not stop there. They offer a range of living arrangement from city like to rural.
College Ave: you have to admit the party campus. I am not a drinker but definitely a dancer. There are some nice parties. If you are not a partier, there are MANY things you can do. I usually plan shopping trips (Cliquers). There is a wide range of shopping areas in Downtown New Brunswick and you will surely find a place you like. College Ave is a city environment.
Cook Douglass is the rural-like campus. I love it here though because of the scenery and peacefulness of it. You are bound to have classes on this campus unless you could do some magical trick to change it. Despite the negativity, I love cook douglass. With your meal swipes, you can get breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Campus Center.
Livingston: is a campus. Quieter than Busch and College Ave but a little livelier than Cook Douglass. I love it here. I live here for my freshman year. All the underclassman activities are definately found on Livingston. In addition to that, there is a new student center. They are going to finish the new dining hall by the fall of 2011. By the Fall of 2012 or Spring, they will have new apartments and shopping districts. In conclusion Livingston is growing. HOWEVER YOU WILL NEED FANS!!! A LOT
Busch: the science campus. The biggest campus I believe. Many students actually shoot for Busch because they believe its the best. However, where you live and how much fun you have depends on how you make it fun. You meet new people every where you go. I recommend visiting the campuses and asking current student if you can check out the rooms because there ARE differences for each campuses.
You do not need a car! Besides the fact that you have to pay a permit fee, you have the buses. They are easy to use at times hard to handle during busy times. However, if you know when classes end or begin, getting on a bus with a guaranteed seat is not difficult.Bang for the buck You pay around 22000 a year (not including financial aid deduction or other things). When you stop being a freshman, you will get a choice of doubles, apartments, suites, off campus etc. they make a difference on your tuition. Where you live has an impact on your money. Credits has an impact on your money, the meal plan has an impact on your money.
Meal Plans: You get a set 510 required as a first year. The dining hall isn't great (not home cooked delicious) but it is edible. Tillett dining hall on Livingston is actually switching to Busch (The supposed good food dining hall) and Cook Douglass (my opinion awesome place) style food. Brower has the worst food. (I spoke with the chef so I know my infos are valid minus the self opinion). DCC (douglass campus center has 3 times where you can swipe. breakfast. Limited Lunches and dinner. They are great for clearing out the meal swipes because you will have left over swipes. they will go to waste so USE THEM! The rock cafe in the Livingston Student Center is also good for swipes. The Sbarros after 4:30pm in LSC uses swipes too. Sorry Dunkin Donut does not take swipes :(
Besides that, you do get free tickets to football games or any other games. Go to them. They are fun. they are something to do. They are a great way to meet people. The buses are hell though (pardon the language).Tips for prospective students Work Hard. You will learn to time manage after your first semester better after your second semester. DO NOT under estimate college. It is not another high school that you are going to. You do get more freedom but do not misuse it. At the same time, have fun and becareful. Many people think you have to drink to have fun, to tell you the truth, that is not true. You don't. The people that you hang out with will be able to understand and if they don't, find another group. You will meet people that you do not life or like you. Just remember stop questioning why they aren't liking you or if they are talking bad about you. As long as you keep a cool head and think logically, remember that let he who has not committed sins, throw the first stone you probably talked bad about someone too. Things pass. Don't worry. If you want to have a social life and a fun safe one at that, you have the power to do that. Open your dorm door when your roommate is there because people will walk by and you want to meet new people.
College is a great place to start anew. Start using it! Good LuckGreat for these types of students Prospective students, female, male, science, medicine, food, shopping, life, lessons

Categories Rating Comments Will enjoy being here Everytime I have gone up to Rutgers, whether it be for a tour or for my scheduling day, I have been greeted and welcomed by such kind and helpful students. They welcome you in and make you feel at home, and they are so nice. The campus is gorgeous and really clean. You don't really feel like you're in college, you feel more like you're in a large town just going from place to place. It's such an obliterating experience. I honestly can't wait until I start.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Class sizes can range anywhere from 28 students to over 100. The learning material in most classes that I have been in or heard of from friends is very intensive and quite thorough. Though it is up to the student to do a lot of self-study in order to gain anything from the education here. Most professors here are very open to helping their students understand the material, and there are even some who make the class just that much more fun. Of course, as with every school, there will be the occasional professor that doesn't have the least bit interest or understanding for his/her students. But that's life.
Am enjoying being here In order to get involved (and please do! studying all the time is no fun and extremely draining - I know 'cause I tried to do that at first), you have to look for clubs and extracurricular activities yourself. No one is going to come look for you - we try, but there are just too many freshmen to track down one-by-one. You have to put yourself out there. So if you're extremely shy, I strongly suggest attending the Involvement Fair held at the beginning of the school year before classes start (plus you'll get lots of free stuff! ^_^) There are clubs ranging from martial arts, to religion, to sports, to philosophy, to culture (lots of Asian clubs here), to mahjong.
Bang for the buck If you're in-state NJ resident, then you'll be paying around $3,000 give-or-take out of your own pocket per semester (tuition + room/board). The rest is usually, you'll find, covered by financial aid (scholarships, grants, sometimes loans) - especially if you're in the honors program here. If you're out-of-state resident, then the costs are higher and you might not get as much of your tuition covered by financial aid. But if you get a 3.5/4.0 GPA then you'll most likely qualify for some scholarship or other from Rutgers. In comparison, however, the cost is much less than private school tuition (~$40,000/year). I pay about $7,000 give-or-take per semester out of my own pocket (tuition + room/board). The rest is covered by scholarships, grants, and loans. Warning to those who are going as out-of-state residents: I am a third-year undergrad student with $21,500 in student loans to pay back, and counting. So take that into consideration. However, the education you get for the price is well worth it, no matter what people say that it's where all NJ residents go.
Tips for prospective students Check the Rutgers websites for EVERYTHING - from housing, to meal plans, to transcripts, to bus routes, to anything admission-related or planning-related. Rutgers will most likely not notify you about these things. That's mostly due to it being such a big school. But as a student here, you will have to do a lot for yourself. The administration will not contact you via email about important deadlines and things you will need to do.
Great for these types of students This school is good for any type of student. Just a little piece of advice though: keep an open mind. It'll come in handy, trust me.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot When first entering Rutgers University I was not aware of actually how much I would learn. I came into this school thinking it was just a little step up from High School and would not really care to learn much. Most of the teachers here really make you have to think and really actually get yourself interested in the subject!
Am enjoying being here I love being here. I love the fact that there is so much to do each night. There are so many clubs to join and events to attend. I feel like each week there is a new comedy show or music event to attend to. It really is very neat. The most important thing here has been all the friends I made and the fact that when you are bored or want to take a break from your homework you can always just walk down the hall to see your friend or take a bus to their dorm. It really is an awesome experience.
Bang for the buck I would have to agree that for this being a State School it is kind of expensive. Even being the fact that I am an In State student and it is still kind of a high price. I do have to say though that no matter how much it is you still graduation with a degree from Rutgers and that is a degree that will get you very far.
Tips for prospective students New students coming..... Please if you can live on campus in a dorm for your freshman year! It is so important that you do this. During that first year you make all your friends and finally open up and discover stuff about yourself that you never really knew.
Great for these types of students Students who are open to do alot of things. Students who want to be different than they were in high school. Students who want to meet alot of diverse people and overall just have a good time!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers offers many different majors and such to chose from. The pharmacy, business, and engineering school are all well known. I am a current economics major and math minor. I have been happy with most of my teacher so far and have learned a lot. The only issue i have had so far is with a writing class that I took. I have not heard a lot of good things about the writing department here at rutgers so I would probably stay away from that if possible. Other than that, every other department I have had a class in has been great.
Am enjoying being here Its a great place to be. Teachers and other students make you feel welcome. You never have to be afraid to ask someone for help if you get lost or something else like that. Rutgers is a pleasent environment to be in.
Bang for the buck I live in state so it is a really great deal for me. For anyone in New Jersey I would defintiely recommend that you consider rutgers. It is still a nationally known school in New Jersey that you can go to at a real discount when looking at out of state schools.
Tips for prospective students Visit the school. The big campus isnt for everyone. Taking buses from campus to campus can get annoying and is something to factor in. Everything is really spread out. Of course this could be fixed with a certain schedule of classes but that may not always be possible.
Great for these types of students Pharmacy, business, pre-med, and engineers. It is also great for anyone that wants to be in a city like environment. There is a lot to do in New Brunswick. Its also great for those that like to meet new people. The campus is huge. You rarely ever see the same person twice.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The great thing about Rutgers is that because it is so large, it is equipped with many, many options. There is a class to fulfill any and every student's desire, and they come with knowledgeable professors to boot. Most professors hold their Master's Degree or PhD and went to great schools themselves. As a freshman, my fall semester I had a teacher that went to Yale, a teacher that went to Columbia, and a teacher that won a prize at the International Math Olympiad. All of my teachers were always at office hours, and by a simple email, phone call, or talk after class they were all very willing to personally help me with any problems I faced. My class sizes averaged around 25-30, which was very surprising because the school is so large. The small, yet not too small, class sizes allow you to really connect with not only your professor but your class. Gen Ed classes (such as intro to Biology) are most always going to be in lecture halls, which makes it hard to connect with teachers and students, as there can never really be group discussion in a class of 300+, but my largest class so far has only been around 100, and recitation made that class much more manageable. Overall, the quality of education is very good, the academics are healthily challenging (but not overwhelming) and the teachers are friendly and intelligent.
Am enjoying being here I am definitely enjoying my time at Rutgers. Most people I've met are very level-headed, motivated, and friendly. The great thing about such a large school is that there is a diverse array of people, so nobody should worry about not being able to meet people they can get along with. Rutgers is the most racially diverse university in the country, so there are many opportunities to grow in knowledge of culture and to be friends with people from all sorts of backgrounds. Also, I love that the campus is interesting. Rutgers, New Brunswick is composed of 4 different campuses - Livingston, College Ave, Cook/Douglass, and Busch, each bearing unique qualities that will always keep you interested in your college. For example, College Avenue is like living in the city- there are plenty of shops and you are right in the heart of New Brunswick. Cook/Douglass, however, is quaint, quiet, and home to the farm on Campus. The Rutgers ecological preserve and the famous Rutgers Gardens are also something to explore. The Fat Sandwiches (sandwiches filled with every food that should not be in a sandwich) from the Grease Trucks are something every student needs to try at least once, and the football games are definitely something all students should go to when they want to feel that little boost of school spirit.
The major downfall to Rutgers is the infamous bus system. With all the traffic in New Brunswick is takes much longer than it should to get anywhere. Also, every weekend night the buses are filled with partiers struggling to get to College Ave. This would not be a problem if 1. there weren't so many crowding the bus and 2. they did not throw up on the bus. Long, jolting bus rides mixed with alcohol equals people getting sick more frequently than they should. Buses are always cleaned thoroughly after their nightly route, but don't plan on seeing a clean bus after 10pm on Friday.Bang for the buck Rutgers is definitely a great value school. It has so much to offer at such a small price, in-state running around $12,600 and out-of-state around $24,500, but they are relatively generous with their financial aid, and almost no one pays the full tuition. Its also really nice that they are a state school because not only do they have a large endowment, but they receive aid from the state on top of that. Rutgers has a great brand name, meaning that other learning institutions and employers respect its reputation. People recognize the name, and they know and trust that people with a degree from Rutgers have learned well. There are rankings to prove it: in 2010 Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick's undergraduate program was ranked #3 by The Wall Street Journal for producing the best graduates according to recruiters in a new ranking The Top 25 Recruiter Picks.”
In all, for the price paid, the opportunities and experiences are well worth every single penny.Tips for prospective students To do well, its important to learn self-discipline. It is easy to go to college and not know how to properly handle all of the freedom. Without your parents/guardians forcing you to go to class, do your homework, stay organized, etc., it is very tempting to sleep through classes that don't take attendance, spend all your time on the computer and with friends, and cram the night before a test rather than studying effectively. To combat these feelings, make sure you get a good nights sleep and wake up for all of your classes. Schedule them at convenient times if you can, do not just roll out of bed for your 8am class and think its beneficial because you will be too busy dozing off to learn. Wake up and get yourself ready!
Also, try not to study in your dorm. It is the easiest way to get distracted. Go to the library; seeing others doing their work will motivate you to do yours. It is also a little harder to fall asleep amidst so many people.
Manage your time wisely. Do not waste time when you could be getting work done. You will thank yourself later. Many people make schedules for themselves so that they know when they have to study/eat/sleep/shower etc. so that they can leave definite room for schoolwork and free time. Its much easier and more enjoyable to do that than to combine the two by working, then getting distracted, then going back to work.... It happens to all of us, but with a simple tool such as a schedule, and a little motivation, it can be easily prevented.
Try to leave room for working and possibly working out. By getting a job it ensures that you will have to be responsible, and you can earn cash while doing good for yourself. Going to the gym will boost your energy and your health. If you cannot fit these into your schedule, don't force it, but they are great for keeping you motivated.
To make friends and gain experience and opportunities, it is really important to get involved. At a big school like Rutgers, its easy to become one of the crowd. By getting involved you can find a way to stand out and excel at something particular. Depending on the club, they can even give job opportunities along with the friends and experience they already provide.
Lastly, to really excel in your classes, GET TO KNOW YOUR PROFESSOR. Introduce yourself after class in the beginning of the year, send them an email, show up to office hours, or just do something like answer a question to make yourself stand out. By knowing the professor, you can get extra help in that class AND possibly gain a mentor and/or person who will write a recommendation when you need one. With large class sizes, you need to stand out and be ahead of the game, and getting to know your professor will be the best thing you can do for yourself. Networking in college is key.Great for these types of students Rutgers is a great school for those who want a school that they can afford, while maintaining the prestige of a good name. It is for students who are motivated and like being challenged but not overwhelmed. It is for those who love having a ton of opportunities and love jumping in head first.
It is also great for people who are undecided about what they want academic path they want to choose. Rutgers has a cornucopia of classes and majors to choose from, and because it is so large, people switch majors all the time so it is very simple to do.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This is a very loaded question and it honestly depends on the student and whether or not they are trying. From the classes that I have taken I have learned a great deal. Most of those classes have been science classes and the professors have a ton of information to cover so most of the time they are very quick in the lectures trying to make sure that you get all the information that you need for exams. You are expected to read and learn on your own as well as in the class so through both lectures and your own free study-time, a ton of knowledge and information gets processed in your brain. I'm not going to lie, some information stays better than others just like most things but you get taught a great deal of information here which will only help you in the future.
Am enjoying being here The first two semesters were hard as they usually are being in college for the first time by yourself but you do get used to it. There are thousands of clubs or activities to do here so you can never be bored if you look for things to do. The classes, or the ones you're interested in, will keep you focused and will be enjoyable because most of the professors will go to great lengths to help you do well in the courses that you chose. You meet many people in all your classes so there is a never-ending stream of support and help if you need it.
Bang for the buck There are thousands of schools who have a lower tuition for in-state students which is one of the things I don't like about New Jersey schools; they're so much more expensive for the students. I could go to a PA school and pay maybe a little more than half of what I am paying now. The tuition is the only thing I'm particularly not happy in but you do learn a great deal of information while at Rutgers. It's an overall good school, having a broad array of majors and minors to choose from adding if one may wish, more than one major or minor. They have the graduate school, as most schools do, which offers many areas to excel in as well.
Tips for prospective students -Many students rejoice in their new-found freedom away from their parents and party a lot. Partying is actually an important component to college, it becomes an outlet for the stress that also comes with being in college. The trick is to know when to stop going to the party's and start focusing on the school work you're actually there for. Balance your fun life with the work that you need to do.
- Professors, friends, TA's and other resources are there for a reason. USE THEM. I made the mistake of being overly shy in my first semester and didn't use them and although I didn't do bad, I could have done better if I had told myself to suck it up and go ask for help. Don't go through college only relying on yourself, there are people around to help for a reason and they can sometimes help you more than you know.
- Find a way to relax and take a break from life every once in a while
- STUDY! Don't skip class because you're too lazy and you just don't want to go, class is important. And don't be checking e-mail or facebook every moment of your life. You're friends will still be there in an hour or two, get your work done first!
- Don't overburden yourself with tons of classes, extracurricular activities, and outside work, you'll just drive yourself insane.Great for these types of students Rutgers is a great school if you know what you want and need to get there. They have excellent options for internships or connections for possible jobs. Because of the size of the school pretty much anyone could go here if they were determined or even if they weren't. It's a great school for students who both prefer to work alone and those that like to work in small groups because the class sizes vary depending on the class and the major. Rutgers is a well-rounded school and pretty much any type of student can go here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers University is a great school to attend. The courses are challenging, but not impossible. The grades earned are reflected by the effort put into homework and studying. Independent learning outside of the classroom is beneficial and encouraged. Recitation is a great oppertunity to learn more and clarify any confusion of the lecture.
Am enjoying being here Boring does not exist at Rutgers. There are always organization events occurring on campus, and entertainment (concerts, comedy shows, informational presentations) are always happening. With the hundreds of organizations, it is easy to be involved. And if you dont want to commit time for meetings, there are university wide events, such as the Rutgers Day or Service.
Bang for the buck The benefit of being at a large university is the multitude of possibility. There are so many majors offered here, that if you're unsure of your college path, you have the ability to choose classes of completely different fields. The starving college student does not apply here, since the food is very good. However, many students do not like the livingston dining hall
Tips for prospective students In large lectures, it is sometimes hard to learn, so attend recitations and don't be afraid to ask questions. In college, it is up to you to take care of yourself and ask for help when you need it.
Great for these types of students Rutgers is good for a student who is motivated to do well and exceed.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Rutgers University has many accomplished professors who are more than willing to help students. Each professor has a strong grasp on their class subject and is always open to questions. The classes are difficult, but it is very possible to achieve a high grade through hard studying and class participation.
Am enjoying being here Rutgers University in New Brunswick is a huge campus with many clubs and people. The first hour I was on campus I met so many people who were just trying to make friends too. As the semester progressed I got to know everyone more. Unlike high school, the students here are very sincere and smart.
Bang for the buck Rutgers University is a relatively cheap college compared to many of the other schools such as NYU. As a student I found that many people who attend Rutgers are there because of the manageable price.
Tips for prospective students My tip for prospective students is to go to Rutgers. As a resident of New Jersey there seems to be a bit of stigma with Rutgers. It is a wonderful college with so many opportunities!
Great for these types of students Rutgers University is great for all types of students. If you are a resident of New Jersey with a bit of a budget then this is the perfect college.
