    Am learning a lot

I will be entering my sophomore year this fall 2009. As a freshman I was nervous to finally be in college, I wasn't sure how it would be. The thought of just graduating high school and now having to grow up and be a college student was a big step. I entered my first class which was biology and it was a class of 90 students. Although it was a huge class, the teacher took the time to explain in depth every topic. If a student had a question, the teacher stopped and made sure everyone understood before he moved on. I ended up with a B in the class as well as a much broader knowledge for biology.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at Salisbury, but overall the school is too small for me. I love being around a lot of people, therefore I rather be at a bigger school, which is why I am considering Towson University. At Salisbury, I see almost the same students who have the same major in many of my classes. It's about a 10 minute walk from the start of campus to the end of campus. Not that big at all. Although it's a small school, there's a lot to do on campus. There are many clubs to join. I joined club volleyball and softball and enjoyed it very much. They have different contests and activities between the dorm halls. The campus throws parties for the whole campus. There's a lot to do on and off campus, but if you're looking for a big school, Salisbury isn't for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Worth every bit of the money spent. It all go towards a very nice and clean campus. It's not an expensive college. The food provided in our commons is AMAZING! We have days such as Lobster day, make your own pizza day, different culture cuisine days, etc. Worth every penny. Looking throughout the campus and academic buildings, it shows that the money wasn't put to waste.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for students who love a smaller campus surrounding. Students who plan to major in nursing. Salisbury has a great nursing program. Our soccer team and lacrosse team are very good, so if you love those sports, COME TO SALISBURY!

    Am learning a lot

Salisbury classes are a decent size usually. My anatomy and physiology class was the biggest with over 120 students. It is a lot of students, but the teachers realize this, and take their time explaining topics, until every student understands the material. Teachers are always available during office hours to help tutor students, or review the days lecture if needed.

    Am enjoying being here

Salisbury University has been a dream come true for me. Attending SU was the best decision I have ever made. My parents had always believed I would stay in state, close to home for college due to financial reasons, but I had bigger dreams. I am paying for my education at Salisbury all alone, and am enjoying every moment spent here. I joined a sorority my second semester, and met many of my best friends throughout our experiences that semester. Everyday my parents tell me just how proud of me they are for going through with my dream, and being brave enough to take on such a huge debt alone, and begin a new life in a new state. The transition to Salisbury was hard at first, since I did not know a single person there. But through extra curricular activities, and being outgoing making friends was no problem at all. I would recommend Salisbury University to anyone who wants an amazing education, and the opportunities of a lifetime.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury is expensive for out of state students, but manageable. They have a specific program for out of state nursing students, if you are accepted into SU's nursing program, and work in the state of Maryland for 4 years after graduation, Salisbury will lessen your tuition to the in-state rate. I know that college will affordable if I do get into the program, but finding the loans now with the current out of state rates is the hardest part.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to be outgoing and make new friends. In high school I was interested in Habitat for Humanity but never went to the meetings. During the fall semester, the club had a meeting, and I decided to go, on my own, without knowing anyone. It was one of the best decisions I made at Salisbury, I met some amazing people, and get to hang out with them while helping others. I also pledged a sorority in the spring which was amazing. I never thought I'd see myself in a sorority, but after attending interest meetings, and seeing how close the girls are, and how they actually act like sisters, I knew that was the kind of relationship I needed at Salisbury to feel at home.

Great for these types of students

Salisbury has such a diverse campus, there are so many clubs to join, majors to study, and people to meet, there will never be a dull day at SU.

    Am learning a lot

I have completed my first semester at Salisbury and have taken 4 classes so far. I did very well in all four classes and feel that I have learned a lot so far. I accredit this success to many sources. First, the class sizes. My anatomy and physiology was rather large, about 80 students, but my other classes were much smaller. Two classes had about 25 students and one had only 15 students. The smaller classes allowed for more personal attention. Teacher were able to answer questions during class and hold class discussions that supported whatever we were learning. Second, although I loved only 3 out of 4 of these teachers and found the other decent, they were all very encouraging and wanted to see their students succeed (even the least tolerable of the four) and were willing to help when you need the extra assistance. Every teacher has office hours multiple times per week and many will meet at other times as well if you make an appointment. If you feel you need additional help or you just don't think your teacher is your best match the Center for Student Achievement offers tutoring and study skills workshops. There is also a writing center to help you with papers and resumes.

    Am enjoying being here

Being at Salisbury has been an exciting adventure; there are many things about it that I love. There are so many clubs, there is definitely something for everybody. The school also brings a lot of good comedians and performers (all free for students!). I also think the school is really strong in providing lots of opportunities for freshman students to meet each other and get connected.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury is relatively inexpensive as far as colleges go. Yet it still provides a strong education, nice dorms (they are currently in the process of renovatiing all the freshman dorms so provide private bathrooms, so they are only going to get nicer), and fantastic food (the dinning hall has a large variety and makes special meals for every holiday. it also has food events sometimes like lobster night and make your own pizza night).

    Tips for prospective students

Go to the club fair... there is something for everyone and is a great way to meet people with common interests.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students looking for a medium-sized school- its the perfect size to meet lots of new people, but also see familiar faces. It is also good for strong athletes who don't want the hype of a D1 school- we're D3, but very competitive. If you love the beach its great for that too because we're only 25 miles from Ocean City :)

    Am learning a lot

Although I am currently involved in mainly General Education courses (as most freshman are) the classes have been very fun and informative so far. The teachers (although can sometimes seem a bit crazy) truly care about what they are teaching and want others to come to care about it as well. Yes, the classes are much harder than those in high school, and I'm not going to lie to you, it is a ton more work. However the end results are fantastic.

    Am enjoying being here

It is very easy to find your place on campus. The very first week that you're here there is an activities fair that literally every club and organization on campus has a booth at. In fact that is how I got involved with the club that I am with now. The members of this club have since become a sort of family away from my family.
When you go on school tours and see all these random students smiling at you, you probably think that its all set up (I know that I did). But at SU, it really seems to be true. People smile at me all the time all over campus.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury University is one of the cheapest in state schools for Maryland. In fact, to be honest it is not horribly expensive for out of state students either. And the cost is definitely worth it. I love the campus and enjoy that classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get your work done. I know its liberating to be out of your parents house and be able to do whatever you want but that will all change quickly if you get put on academic probation because you went out with friends more than you studied.

Great for these types of students

Those who like the small campus feel but actually want a campus with alot to offer. Sometimes the smaller campuses have nothing for the students recreationally speaking. Since SU is about 7,000 students it is large enough to offer clubs and programs, but small enough to not overwhelm a person.

    Am learning a lot

I'm only in my basic, general classes right now so I'm not learning things that I didn't already know. I will say that it is a good review for the more advance classes I will be taking in the future, so I don't mind being retaught these things. As long as you pick the right professor, you will feel like you have a better understanding of the material. I was told by some of my professors that if you can explain the information to someone else, then they feel their job has been complete and they won't stop helping until you get the material.

    Am enjoying being here

Although there isn't much to do around the campus, there is a bowling alley that is about 5 minutes away and a mall in the opposite direction that's about 10 minutes away. The campus does things on campus to keep the students occupied, like speakers, comedians, a spring concert, SU Idol and movies on the weekend. I thought that when winter break came I wouldn't miss Salisbury, but I was clearly mistaken. You will end up missing the school because of the friends and memories that you have made. It was a pleasant surprise to me.

    Bang for the buck

I feel like tuition and room and board are at a responsible price for what you get through the campus. They're currently updating the dorms on-campus and they are really lovely to be in.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not stay in your dorm, you will get bored and will make no friends. Explore and open yourself up! Try your best to get along with your roommate and the people you share a bathroom with. Me and my first roommate hardly spoke and I got tired of trying to involve her in things so we ended up not speaking to each other. At the end of the semester I got a new roommate and we hit it off so much better! It might have been because she came from a bad situation and this new one was much better, but either way we were both happy and are close. If you're having problems with someone, it's a very smart idea to talk to your RA or RD as soon as possible before things get out of control. One last thing, GO TO CLASS!!! It will make things so much easier for you and you won't be panicking with your tests and work at the last minute.

Great for these types of students

Salisbury is great for students who want a college that's small and has classroom sizes that can average between 25-35 most of the time. The professors are friendly and want to help the students succeed. No matter what gender, race, or sexual orientation someone is, they will feel very comfortable on the campus. Also if you have school pride, you fit in perfectly with the other Salisbury Seagulls!

    Did learn a lot

The professors are great and were more than willing to help you with anything you need. Take advantage of their office hours, they are very helpful!

    Did enjoy being here

The campus is great and so are the people. It's very easy to make friends and it's a very laid back campus. The dorms are not the highest quality, but it comes down to what you make of the situation.

    Bang for the buck

This is a very cheap school compared to anything out of state, and in state rates are relatively cheap. The money you pay provides many great resources, such as the library, which is a great resource.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay focused and enjoy your time. The campus and people are great, so take advantage of that and have fun.

Great for these types of students

Laid-back, people who don't want a huge school, People who like to party, people who like the beach

One of the countries best-buy universities. (look it up, for real!)
Contemporary university with an old-school feel.
    Always something new.

    Tips for prospective students

The university sends out their acceptance/decline letters REALLY late. I don't think I received mine till late May. If you don't hear anything, don't fret. Even if you're worried about your SAT scores or GPA, if you have a genuine and passionate essay on your application, You should be fine.

    Academic Rigor

The work isn't horrible, but it's not easy... If you're planning on being a pre-nurse major, be prepared for a lot of work and minimal social life. Most of the teachers are understanding of deadlines if something comes up, like a family emergency.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is crazy! (Not party-wise) Parties happen off campus usually. But the people I've met in my dorm are just awesome. We're great friends and help each other with our work. My new friends take a lot of stress out of college.

    Food and Dining

Commons has AWESOME food, and the menu's always changing. There's little cafes and sandwich shops in all of the main class buildings. Get a meal plan, and you will never go hungry!!!

    What to do for fun

There's a club for almost anything you can think of. There's even a Quiddich (spelling?) team from Harry Potter. If you want to make a club, you only need six friends to back you up. I'm involved in a modeling club, a Korean sword fighting class, and I swim at the Magg's pool to unwind.

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury University has been named one of the top 100 best buy universities.

Great for these types of students

    Theatre Majors.
    Computer Majors.
    Buissness Major.
    Pre-Med.
    Education.
    Visual Arts.
    Preforming Arts.

    Greek Life

I'm not involved in greek life, but there's a lot of options for both boys and girls. And they're always involved in something. I see/hear about them all over campus.

    Campus Safety

We have these weird-looking speakers with bright blue lights on top, and if you ever dont feel well about walking home at night, you press the speaker and a university police will escort you where you need to go. If you were partying, there's SafeRide, and they'll pick you up and take you to campus with no charge and no questions asked.

i love everything about salisbury! the students are friendly, the campus is clean and pretty and also it's small enough to get from one side to the other without being late to class. most professors are interested in how you are doing and want you to do well, which helps a lot! there

    Dorm Life

dorm life is dorm life.. either you love it or you hate it.
depending on which dorm you live in it's different. i live in chester hall (one of the high rises). when i first got assigned to chester i was so disappointed, i had been hoping for one of the new quad dorms which were all newly renovated and suite style. but after living in a high rise, which is clusters instead of suites, i love it!! you make so many more friends living in a high rise than you would in a suite style room. on my floor the cluster doors are always open and almost everyones actual dorm room doors are open too so people are always coming in and out, making it really easy to meet new people!

    Food and Dining

a lot of different foods to choose from. the bistro has new, different foods each day. i'm also pretty sure we got on the list for having the best foods out of all the schools in maryland so our food is pretty descent, for college food at least.

    What to do for fun

there is so much to go for fun. the mall is about 15 minutes away for all your shopping needs, ocean city is about 30 minutes away for all the beach lovers and of course the fractured prune is right across 13 for all the doughnut fanatics!!!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

since i'm a freshman, when my clustermates and i are studying for a test or even watching one of the many shows we watch, we take a break and go to cool beans to get a drink. you can find us there almost 4 days a week!

    Greek Life

my boyfriend is the president of the pi lambda phi fraternity so i have gotten pretty close with most of the brothers and they are some of the nicest people i have met at salisbury. i was always kind of iffy about frats because of the stereotypes that they usually get but this frat is awesome!

also i am looking into joining a sorority and most of the girls i have met in sororities at salisbury are really friendly and nice and are willing to talk to you and explain what their sorority does! i'm looking into delta gamma and alpha sigma tau.

The teachers I had this semester were great. Many of them would love to give you one on one helped after class or during office hours. Classes are very small, since the school is very small, if you like that sort of thing.

    Am enjoying being here

Salisbury, Maryland is a VERY small town. If you're looking to go here prepare for lots of nights with nothing to do. It's fine if you enjoy partying every night, but if you like to have other options take that into consideration. Getting involved in things helps a little, though.

    Bang for the buck

There really isn't much to do, for all the money they're asking from students they don't provide much. Don't let their tours fool you, there hasn't been one big concert or anything like that since I've been here.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a club or something to get invovled in to occupy some time.

    Tips for prospective students

Being involved within the school atmosphere and becoming friends with fellow classmates can help tremendously when assignments are complex.

    Academic Rigor

This does not apply to me because I live locally. But if I had to rate the dorm experience from friends, I would give it a 4.

Salisbury University is a great school with a great learning environment, a beautiful campus, and great student life. The food at this school has exceeded my expectations and the dorms are very nice. The professors here really care for our success and get to know each of us as well as they can.

    Tips for prospective students

ALWAYS have your i.d. card on you! It gets you food, into your building, buys you stuff... it's pretty much your life while you are at school.

    Academic Rigor

We are challenged but find help easily from professors and constant free tutoring sessions.

    Dorm Life

My dorm is my family. The RA's put together great programs all throughout the year so that everyone in the dorm becomes super close.

    Food and Dining

The food here is absolutely wonderful. All you can eat and pretty much every genre of food you can imagine.

    What to do for fun

There are constantly events put on by Salisbury University staff, but also a mall near by, movie theater, and the beach is only 40 minutes away.

    Bang for the buck

I never expected to get all I do here at Salisbury. Besides a great education, wonderful living accommodations (with cleaning staff who clean the bathrooms twice a week), great food, tons of free events, free gym membership including a choice of two gyms with several different classes, and more!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Everyone loves hanging out at Cool Beans, the coffee shop on campus that has tons of delicious smoothies.

Great for these types of students

Students who love to have fun and learn and make great friends!

    Clubs and Activities

Many different clubs for all different kinds of people.

    Greek Life

Lots of Fraternities and Sororities to choose from. They all put on different activities throughout the year for anyone to attend.

    Campus Safety

Emergency phones are located all throughout campus and to get into all of the dorms and some other buildings you use your i.d. card.

Wouldn't trade Salisbury for any other college. The students have school pride. I bleed maroon and gold!

    Tips for prospective students

If you enjoy mild east coast weather and friendly peers, this school is excellent. Take advantage of the many clubs and events!

    Academic Rigor

Not as difficult as I was expecting coming from a challenging high school, other students seem to be bogged down by work, yet claim that it is manageable.

    Dorm Life

Although many students complain about the older dorms' small spaces, I had no problem with them and found them to be intimate ways of meeting friends. The campus convenience is awesome!

    Food and Dining

Commons puts restaurants to shame. Cool beans is amazing, and Gull's Nest has the best quesadillas ever.

    What to do for fun

Go out with friends, join the many clubs and organizations, attend the cultural events and work out in the facilities

    Bang for the buck

Although I pay more as an out-of-state student, I still feel as though I get more bang than the majority of my peers who stayed in-state
    (PA).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Each semester, the Outdoor Club puts on an Undie Run to collect money for the homeless. There is also a giant gorilla statue outside of commons who, along with other statues among campus, can often be spotted holding fruit, notes, etc.

Great for these types of students

Outdoorsy, beachy, party-loving, future teachers, aspiring nurses

    Clubs and Activities

Any club that you can imagine, SU has! Unfortunately, many of them meet at the same exact time...so pick carefully!

    Greek Life

Greek organizations definitely exist, but are not as prominent as at some other colleges. They host parties, but are not very prominent aside from fundraising and weekend nightlife.

    Campus Safety

My only true complaint about Salisbury...it is in a horrible town. I like to think that the campus itself is fairly safe, but I've learned that once the sun goes down, NOBODY should go anywhere-even on campus- alone.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs that you can join. I am on the Poms Squad and I also participate in a lot of community service.

    Bang for the buck

Dining and books are a little expensive, but you will get a lot of use out of both.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Big Event- a community service project, town-wide!

Great for these types of students

Students who might get homesick. It's a smaller campus, which makes it feel safe and like home.

    Clubs and Activities

So many different options for clubs and activities! There's always something going on around here. Whether it be a sports event, a fundraiser, a dorm-wide prom, or a quiddich match!

    Greek Life

Many involved fraternities and sororities. Each one really helps the community and is easy to join.

    Campus Safety

Campus police are extremely helpful and understanding. However, the surrounding areas of downtown Salisbury can be dangerous. Don't walk by yourself late at night.

Salisbury University has a lot to offer. From excellent food and variety of clubs and free time options to endless opportunities for higher education, Salisbury has it all. Located only thirty minutes from the beach, it never snows and its beautiful for eighty percent of the year.

    Tips for prospective students

I advise prospective students to become involved in something on campus. Whether it is with a religious group, a common interest club, a sport or a sorority, get involved and these four years will be the best four years of your life.

    Academic Rigor

Although some academic tracks are not as difficult as others, many majors are very competitive and require a lot of work. However, it is the students choice and responsibility to attend class to learn the information.

    Dorm Life

Salisbury has excellent dorms, from cluster style to suite style, there are multiple residence hall options on campus. Each building creates a strong sense of community and allows students to build strong relationships with each other.

    Food and Dining

The Commons has a huge variety of different options each day. Also, the nutritional facts are listed above each food item so students are aware of what they are consuming. There are plenty of vegan/vegetarian options each day and brunch on the weekends is awesome!

    Bang for the buck

Salisbury is very affordable for instate and out of state tuition.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who love to have fun but also want to have a successful career in the future.

    Clubs and Activities

Multiple student run organizations and activities and in the beginning of each semester, an activities fair is held so students are aware of the various clubs and activities around campus.

    Greek Life

Salisbury only has about 6 fraternities and 4 sororities so they do not dominate the campus. However, many people that are involved in greek life enjoy it.

    Campus Safety

If one does not feel safe on campus, the university police are always right at the touch of a button because there are multiple emergency lights on campus and there is always one in sight.

salisbury has a vibrant campus, friendly people, and great food. the sports teams are outstanding, and even though its a division 3 school, we have an incredible amount of talent, especially in lacrosse. also, it's only a 45 minute drive from ocean city, and my favorite surf spot.

    Tips for prospective students

if you enjoy food, fun, and like making new friends, salisbury is definately worth checking out. there are clubs for virtually every interest here, and the counselors can also advise you as to which club you might enjoy the most. if you're looking for a great all around college experience, salisbury is a good choice, and you won't regret it.

    Academic Rigor

the teachers make learning an easy, and enjoyable part of life. all the teachers i've had so far are relaxed, easy going, and understand that accidents happen when it comes to turning in work late. that being said, you can't afford to slack off. it is college, and there is a significant amount of work to be done, so don't kid yourself, hit the books regularly if you want to stay on top of your grades.

    Dorm Life

my ra's and rd are very friendly, but not overly so. they understand that people need their privacy, but they are there for you if you ever need anything. my roomate, and suitemates are some of my best friends here, and even though i'm in the honors dorm i still have some crazy weekends. definately a great place to live. try to room in the quad though. the other dorms, such as the high-rises, arent nearly as nice, and dogwood village is a bunch of single rooms, and the buildings are more like trailers. that being said, it's still a pretty comfortable campus all around, and i love it here.

    Food and Dining

on point, all day every day. there are tons of options, so your diet won't get too mundane.

    What to do for fun

club sports, surfing, partying, open mic nights, comedians and preformers the school regularly hires to come, and also lots of random movie nights that are fun to go to with a few friends.

    Campus Safety

ridiculously safe campus. the surrounding area can be pretty rough, but just like any city, keep your head on straight, dont walk around by yourself at odd hours, and you'll be fine. that being said, there are blue lights where you can press a button and have a campus police officer respond within 90 seconds. the campus police are good at their jobs. however, sometimes they are too good, so don't park where your not supposed to, and dont stumble around holding a bottle in the open, or you'll get breathalyzed and have your drink taken.
