The teachers at San Antonio College are awesome, most teachers are very helpful and as long as you show that you want to learn they will help you and try to get you to understand as much as you can. Most teachers teach their subject very well and know how to assign work and stay on topic.

    Am enjoying being here

Being at San Antonio College is great. It is a great college to be at and you will enjoy being there. You will meet a lot of different people.

    Bang for the buck

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to always take advantage of early regristration so you can set up your schedule to how you would like it. Take advantage of all instructors meeting times and of all labs. Be sure to at least get three phone numbers of other students.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at San Antonio college are extremely well rounded, diverse, and impressive! I have yet to feel like I am not learning anything from them. Without great teachers, you have a lesser chance of getting a personally useful education, so why not get a good education? You're paying for it, so take a chance and learn something! There is a wide variety of classes offered at San Antonio college, so take advantage of it and learn as much as you can with some very interesting professors by your side.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus at San Antonio college is visually appealing, and small enough so that buildings are easily spotted and identifiable. There is nothing more important to a college campus than easy navigability! There are so many different community opportunities, and you meet the most interesting people!

    Bang for the buck

I cannot express enough how much of a 'steal' San Antonio College is. You are definitely not wasting your money here! And the greatest part is there is very little of it involved, especially compared to what you could be paying at the university level!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't fret about the negative connotation community colleges have within the community of high school students planning on attending college, think about what is best for you financially, and if you could personally handle the shock of actual university life right off the bat. Remember, community college is just a starting point, you will get there eventually!

Great for these types of students

Those who believe finances hold you back from earning a degree and getting a quality education. (It doesn't, trust me!)
Those who are looking to save literally thousands of dollars on obtaining a higher education.
Those who are not quite ready for the responsibilities associated with going off to a four year university (i.e. living by yourself, homesickness)

    Am learning a lot

The courses here are actually great. From what I hear we're on par, if not ahead, of the major colleges in the area, which for the cost of the school itself is rather amazing. The majority of the teachers I've had are fantastic at their job as well.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm really not enjoying it here, the staff behind the scenes at the school could use with a GREAT deal of help. They've lost my financial aid papers once causing the school to drop me from classes - which cost me a semester of education, and the counselors don't really know about the classes/course load the school requires.

    Bang for the buck

Like I mentioned, the cost is amazing. I wouldn't move into the area just to attend school here, but if you're in SA, taking your basics here is a great idea.

    Tips for prospective students

My recommendation if you are attending/thinking to attend is to copy everything you turn in to the clerical staff, call them often to make sure they're on top of things and when it comes to class order/requirements to just ask the department professors themselves rather than the counselors. Some of the professors have even said that this is a far better approach than asking any of the counselors on staff.

Great for these types of students

I'd suggest it to nursing students, drafting, and anything just wanting to get their basics out of the way at a nice cost. Also good if you need to take any remedial courses.

The staff overall have a great connection with the student body and they try there best to assist you with whatever needs you may have. All of my professors that I have had have been very knowledgeable in the subject that is being taught and I am happy to have taken classes here.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the campus its very much, it is nice and well maintained.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is very cheap and affordable also financial aid is a huge saver. On top of everything SAC offers there own scholarships which are helpful as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Defiantly talk to an advisor early that way you can get settled and not rushed with anything. Take advantage of the counseling as well and also the student center.

Great for these types of students

    All types :)

    Am learning a lot

Professors are wonderful if you choose wisely. Use available professor review sites! I had bad experiences until I learned to do this, now I've had nothing but awesome professor and interesting experiences. I don't feel like I've received any kind of lesser education than if I'd taken the same classes at a larger 4 year University. On the contrary, I think SAC students are better off due to the small class sizes. No huge lecture hall classes here at all!

One negative is that the professors have pretty tight schedules with regard to what material they MUST cover and as a result, class discussions are often cut short. I have had several professors who would have enjoyed longer discussion times but there just wasn't enough time. For the most part I feel I've been intellectually challenged, but some classes ARE of the read and regurgitate variety which is disappointing.

    Am enjoying being here

I am an older student (late 30s) so I haven't found much of a peer group but I've still met some very interesting people, though I tend to connect more with my professors as we have more in common due to age! The campus is attractive, but there are some issues with housekeeping and maintenance (rooms too hot or cold, toilets not working, gym facilities dirty).. and the food options in the student center are very high priced. Not student friendly in that regard.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely get a lot for your money when compared to a traditional four year school. It's a big savings if you get your basics here and then transfer. Beware the student financial aid departments though; recent years have shown a ton of problems and headaches. They are understaffed and chronically plagued with problems that cause issues for students who depend on financial aid, yet they advertise all the time to recruit new students. It makes no sense. Financial aid office is ALWAYS crowded with huge lines. They need to fix this. What good is a bang for the buck if you can't actually get the money in hand to pay for school?

    Tips for prospective students

Have a plan B for paying for classes due to the likelihood of financial aid issues. Research potential professors before registering, then, when you find a good one, sign up for his or her class EARLY! Make use of the free help in the labs. Get to know at least one person in class for when you are absent. Get in the habit of studying or reviewing EVERY DAY if you are not used to doing so. Oh, and forget trying to find a parking space close; give up and walk a few blocks, it's good exercise anyway!

Great for these types of students

Students looking to save a lot of money, students looking to brush up on basic reading / writing / math skills that they may have struggled with in high school, students who don't care about dorm life but want a quality education and a good start before transferring to a four year university.

    Am learning a lot

This was my first semester at this school and everyone was very friendly and helpful. In the beginning I was unhappy that I had to take a Student Development class to get to know the campus since it was my first semester but by the end I was really grateful for the class. I was able to take many tours and learn about every resource that was at my fingertips that I never would have known I had access to.

    Am enjoying being here

This campus is a good size and there was so many resources for the students to use. The library and librarians were amazing and so helpful. There are two gyms that were open for students to use which was helpful. I was amazed by at what San Antonio College had to offer. The parking can be a little frustrating but is easily mastered.

    Bang for the buck

This is a great campus to acquire your basics at. Many of my professors also taught at local Universities as well. This made me more comfortable with the education that I received.

    Tips for prospective students

Get a parking permit and make sure you know the best places to park before you happen to be late one day. There are also many railroad tracks surrounding the school so sometimes you may be stuck on the wrong side of the tracks. The roads are a little potholed around the school so don't speed and be careful.

Great for these types of students

Second chance students, nursing students and anyone who wants a good basic education for a good price. San Antonio College offers so many degrees I didn't know about so check them all out because you may change your mind after you figure them all out.

San Antonio college has provided me with the knowledge and skills from educators that are excellent. The courses that I've taken are not the easiest, but have given me the opportunity to learn more than I expected. I appreciate the small classroom environment to allow a better student-to-teacher ratio.

I enjoy the small sense of community at the college. They offer a wide variety of courses to take. There are wonderful professors that take time out of their day to help you understand course material.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you are able to manage the courses you have applied for. Make sure that you do get the books that you need instead of skipping out on that because you will need your textbooks. Try not to miss class because every professor I have had, has paid close attention to who shows up to class and who doesn't and then puts points towards your final exam and final grade.

    Academic Rigor

Professors pay close attention to what their students are doing. They demand respect and will not hesitate to kick you out of class if you are not respecting other students or not paying attention to the lectures.

    Dorm Life

San Antonio College does not offer dorms.

    Food and Dining

San Antonio College has a student life section at the campus that has different types of food that you can get. It's very nice.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition for San Antonio College is a lot cheaper than going straight into a University. I believe it is smarter to attend a community college first because you can take all of your basic classes and some college classes for a lower cost.

Great for these types of students

Students who enjoy a sense of community in the classroom. Also great for students who enjoy having smaller classes where the professors are more willing to spend time helping students understand the material.

Very Lighthearted and breezy atmosphere. Non Smoking campus, everyone is moving at all time. Student clubs are very active!

    Tips for prospective students

Get all your paperwork done early! I cannot stress enough how painfully annoying it is to stand in a 3 hour line just to turn papers in! The student center is a great place to hang out and make friends but you will lose track of time, not recommended for doing homework. The Library is excellent, lots of databases and study rooms for you to use, YOU MUST HAVE A GOOD WORK ETHIC.

    Academic Rigor

This really depends on your professor and your workload, don't take too much at one time and always research your professor beforehand.

    Dorm Life

There are no on campus dorms

    Food and Dining

The Student Center has a cafeteria inside, a bit pricey but your right on San Pedro, so thier are lots of little fast food places and mom & pop restaurants around.

    What to do for fun

Join a student club, they are very active and lots of times have crazy activities for you you to participate in!

    Bang for the buck

Take advantage of the library databases and the gym, alot of the tuition is paying for all of that so TAKE ADVANTAGE.

The school is large and severely understaffed - aside from the students doing work-study who are on Facebook and are indifferent when you draw them away from the computer. The broadcasting program here is AMAZING and the professors REALLY care about your education and future! The college radio station here is AWESOME and a ton of fun!

    Tips for prospective students

it is an good school to get your basics done. Be aware of the financial aid office because this past semester I had a lot of problems with their financial aid office.
