    Did learn a lot

I definitely learned a lot about myself as well as my subject material. There are many opportunities at Southern to find a path that fits your personality and interests. If you aren't sure what you want to do with your life Southern has advisers, student mentors, and counselors that can help you find a career choice or two suited to your lifestyle.

    Did enjoy being here

Southern offers a variety of activities to keep you busy while you aren't hitting the books. I really enjoyed the social mixers and the athletic program. Intramural sports and other extracurricular activities allow you to meet a greater number of people from a variety of majors. People who can later become a great resource as you are exploring all the career options Southern offers.

    Bang for the buck

For a private school Southern isn't really that expensive. They also offer scholarship options for that extra financial push.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved-the more you put into your college experience the more you'll get out of it.
Don't be afraid to ask questions - Sometimes questions left unasked are missed opportunities to learn.

Stay focused - whether you are a freshman just coming in or a senior on the home stretch wasted time is time lost for good. That's something no one can afford in this economy.

Great for these types of students

Flexible, open minded students who want to enjoy their college experience
Hard working students who want to finish as quickly as they can
Anyone who wants to expand their knowledge base in a positive, supportive environment

    Tips for prospective students

Playing intramurals is a great way to meet new people which is something everyone should strive to do. Also do NOT skip class for it is the biggest way to lower your grade.

    Academic Rigor

I believe that Southern has a very capable staff of teachers, however, I wish that more of the teachers took a genuine interest in the well being and academic standing of all their students.

    Dorm Life

I liked everything about my dorm life experience except the deans and their overwhelming control. We are adults and should be treated as such.

    Food and Dining

    What to do for fun

Intramurals, down town Chattanooga, dorm fun, etc.

    Bang for the buck

    Am learning a lot

The teachers, or at least most, make an efforts to help the students learn i.e, handing out a personal schedule of when the teacher is open to discuss, encouraging students to get tutoring from others, etc.

    Am enjoying being here

There are many activities to do on campus when one isn't studying or working like: rock climbing, working out, swimming, ping pong, billiards, etc. not to mention the nearby parks a walking distance from the campus.

    Bang for the buck

Unless the major is big at Southern, like engineering for example, you're not really getting the bang for the buck. However, for nursing students and a few other then yes, it's definitely worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Beware the freshmen 15! This may very well be the biggest challenge of the year apart from the transition from high school to college!

Great for these types of students

Anything medical: nursing, biology, and pre-med.

    Am learning a lot

I feel that Southern really challenges you to think critically. The work load isn't a lot depending on your major and the professor that you have, but a common thing among all the professors is that they want to challenge you to not memorize what's there but think critically about the information.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at Southern. At the beginning it was really hard getting used to being away from my parents and many of my best friends, but I have met so many amazing people. I really like that Southern is a very diverse University, that was one of the things that attracted me to this campus. I also like that the professors and staff at Southern are nice.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that if you are looking for an Adventist education then this is the place for you. Southern is very expensive, but I think that it is worth the money, because of the benefits of being in a Christian environment and education that you find here.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, I advise that you pray about wherever you go to school. I also advise that you surround yourself with people that are going to support you and encourage you to do your best because college no matter where you go has its distractions.

    Am learning a lot

It could just be because I am a home school student and have never been in a classroom setting, but I am surrounded by so much knowledge and am learning so much sometimes I feel overwhelmed. The teachers (At least in the classes I have been in so far) are very knowledgeable in their area and present the material in a way that everyone understands. That's not to say the classes are easy, in fact it's the very opposite! But they're not impossible if good notes are taken, the material given is read, and one listens carefully.
In summery, I am learning a lot.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone is so friendly, the campus is absolutely beautiful, and the school provides everything a student needs -- a gym, library, and market are all within easy walking distance. Trails through the woods, which border part of the campus, make excellent running trails, and campus security is never far away, so I feel safe. The college even provides various activities and concerts during weekends for the students to enjoy.

    Bang for the buck

I'm not sure if I know what this means, but I assume it can be translated as is it worth spending money to go to this institution?

The answer to this can only be answered by the individual. I put 5 stars because I think it was worth it for me personally. No other college I looked at offered a Christian environment and a good, solid music program for flute (Which were basically my only two requirements when searching for a college).
Southern is very expensive, but then again it is a private college for a specific group of people. I felt it was worth the money to get my education there.

    Tips for prospective students

-Pack light if you're going to live in the dorm. Sharing space with another person in a small room is a lot harder than you think.

-Interview teachers if you go to visit the campus before becoming a student. Meet the instructors in your department, say hello and introduce yourself.

-Be sure you're willing to work hard if you want to go here. The classes aren't impossible, but they're tough if you miss reading assignments or skip class.

Great for these types of students

    -Hard-workers
-Those interested in going in the medical field (It has a great nursing program)

    Am learning a lot

At Southern i not only learned and continued to learn a lot about God and myself, but i also learned a lot academically. The teachers and professors new an immense amount of information on the topics they taught making my learning experience even greater. I learned very valuable information that i can use throughout my life.

    Am enjoying being here

Southern is a BEAUTIFUL place. The campus is amazing and the people are great and always smiling. The only down side to being at Southern is that it is very far away from home, however, it is a second home to me and i love it.

    Bang for the buck

There are many Adventist colleges/universities in the US. And if you compare them, you will find that almost everyone of them is far more expensive than Southern is for the same amount of academics. SAU is definitely worth it to me.

    Tips for prospective students

At Southern you will find anything you are looking for. As long as you know what you want and aim to meet your goal, Southern will be the perfect place for you =).

Great for these types of students

Southern is great for any one who loves God and who intends on sharing that love with his/her fellow friends and classmates.
