Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors that teach here are wonderful! They are understanding, compassionate and encouraging. They are always open to questions and outside-class time you may need to fully understand the concept.
Am enjoying being here There are so many different types of people at TTU, and all of them are nice and wonderful! There are lots of things to do if you are creative and its so easy to be friends with everyone.
Tips for prospective students The best advice I can offer is to make a schedule and stick to it! Schedule when you're going to do what part of your paper and I would suggest to finish it by Thursday--this way if you're tempted to go out with friends for the weekend, you can!! It takes a little getting used to, but scheduling has been a real life-saver for me!
Great for these types of students Anyone who enjoys learning with friends, discovering new things they didn't know they liked, or growing more confident in themselves.

Am enjoying being here About every aspect of Tech and Lubbock I enjoy! Everything from the people to the dust storms, this place has character and charm.
Tips for prospective students Bring rain boots! When it rains it usually floods and if you think the guy in the F-150 is going to have no pleasure whatsoever in splashing you, you are in for a rude awakening!
Great for these types of students The spirited and the driven.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Basics are too general. Once you get into higher level courses, they begin to be more linked and in tune with your major. Courses are tough but the faculty and professors are always open to questions and are willing to work with your schedule if you need to see them in their office hours. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you don't understand, ASK. PowerPoint's have too much information on slides sometimes and I intensely dislike group projects but having to present the information to the class or instructor means I have to know what I am talking about.
Am enjoying being here Definitely! There are constantly activities to participate in any day of the week. One of the organizations I am in hosts Salsa Nights once a month as a fundraiser. If you're involved in an organization, there are weekly meetings as well as department meetings or guest speakers. The REC is very accommodating and accessible most, if not all, of the day. I LOVE the school spirit that the students at Texas Tech have. It really brings the students together as a student body and as future leaders in society, whether that be in class or their chosen career field.
Bang for the buck Yes. Texas Tech has been most helpful in providing financial aid and scholarships. A little effort is required on the part of the student but it is worth it in the end. If you are having issues with obtaining financial aid, apply for school scholarships. Another option to look into is to attend summer courses at your local community college. It saves money, you get the same credit (make sure they transfer), and you do something useful with your summer. Do not be afraid to take out loans. They will pay themselves off when you have a strong career. Besides, a loan is an investment in your education and future and there is nothing better to invest in.
Tips for prospective students 1. GET INVOLVED! There is no better way to meet new people than to join organizations and make friends with those who have similar interests as you. Doing things together brings you together as a family and students do everything together, from taking the same classes and studying together to attending football games and rushing the field. 2. Go to class. Most professors highlight key concepts that will be a continual theme or will be on the exams. But you won't know if you don't go. Taking notes from your friends or other students may be problematic because everyone takes notes differently and your friend or fellow student might not take the same concept out of the lecture as you. Everyone also learns differently but no matter if you read the assigned readings and online PowerPoint's, going to class will drill into you what you are expected to know. 3. Have fun. College is a good experience and there are many opportunities to take advantage of. However, be smart, put your education first, and be safe about how you divert yourself.
Great for these types of students Texas Tech is very diverse. There are students from all sorts of backgrounds and departments. The university is accredited for its strong medicine curriculum. Students interested in this field should apply. Students who wish to challenge themselves have the opportunity to do so by enrolling in Honors courses and submitting a Graduate on Time plan. If you like to be involved, this university is for you! There are an immense variety of organizations to join and these open up opportunities to broaden your interests. School spirit lovers, apply! We win football games and we are proud of it. WRECK 'EM TECH!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot Its crazy (in a awesome way) how they are so involved with students! I just fell in love with campus just from being at orientation. They will help you with anything you need know about Greek life, football traditions, inside the classrooms, etc.
Will enjoy being here Heck yeah! I am pumped, don't you see me smiling. lol
Bang for the buck If your not to hot about recieving enough scholarships like i am struggling with, loans are the way to go. Tech is worth its money.
Tips for prospective students Don't worry if your coming alone. You will meet so many friends from all over that are wanting the same experience. Get Ur Guns UP!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here are wonderful! If you don't understand in class they are always there at their office hours to help. Also, sometimes if you can't make their office hours, if you email them they will be more than willing to rearrange a separate time to help!
Am enjoying being here The spirit here is ridiculous! Tailgating at football games is a great way to meet people, and gets everyone pumped for the actual game. Not to mention, its a year round thing, we don't just rot for out Texas Tech Red Raider Football Team. Everyone is super nice, welcoming, and not to mention you can join any kind of organization you want to. The Greek life here is also amazing. They get involved in so much, especially in the community. You can never have enough community service hours!
Bang for the buck It's an expensive school don't get me wrong, but you're paying for what you get and more. I wouldn't choose another school to attend even if it was cheaper. To be completely honest, its fun packed, traditions are crazy, and not to mention the education you gain is top. You're paying a lot less here to get the same or better education then you'd get at a private school.
Tips for prospective students I would say, come here ready to study. It's not as easy as everyone says Tech is. Also, be open-minded. Be ready to meet different cultures, get involved in Greek life, and all of the organizations on campus.
Great for these types of students Anyone wanting to get a great education, and is ready to have plenty of fun!

Categories Rating Comments Bang for the buck Is there any college that really has bang for the buck? I don't think so, but Tech is in a city that is less expensive than most.
Tips for prospective students You should definitely get caught up in all the hype during football season. Classes are more fun when you have something to look forward to at the end of the week.
Great for these types of students Anyone can find a place at Tech where they feel they belong.

Am enjoying being here The tradition and how this college really repects itself is amazing. The fun student events on campus and the hipe at all athletic events is amazing.
Bang for the buck College isn't cheap but with Texas Tech you are getting a great education. No matter the price I will finish school at Texas Tech. I am a Red Raider for life!
Tips for prospective students Don't procrastinate, and Don't choose 8am classes
Great for these types of students In any college working hard for those grades are essential. If you give 100% effort in class then college in general is for you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here are AMAZING. No joke. I took a nap after one of my finals since I had time before my next one, and when I woke up I had missed my ISQS final! But, my teacher was super understanding and let me take a different final in his office that night. Don't be afraid to go introduce yourself to your teachers at the beginning of the semester. Go to class everyday, ask questions and go to their office hours, because when it comes to the end of the semester and you need those extra few points to boost your grade, if they know you and saw that you were a dedicated student throughout their class, they will have no problem helping you out. Plus, some teachers give pop quizzes for extra credit so it's beneficial if you go to class everyday.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love going here. It honestly is that real college experience. There are many things you can join and get involved in. Greek life is amazing and a great way to make new friends. I really enjoyed rushing and ending up at an amazing house with a group of girls I can call my sisters. I also am really involved with my church since they have a great student association. I'm on staff and everyone there is like family to me. Honestly, get involved because these people are not just your class mates for the next few years but they are your 2nd family. Tech is your home away from home!
Tips for prospective students Being away from home and going to school can be very overwhelming. Sometimes you can get caught up with just having fun and not having parents around that you forget that you are there for school. Don't feel like your alone if you start falling behind in grades. This isn't high school or community college, so yes, its meant to be challenging. I didn't do well my first semester and neither did a lot of my friends. So second semester we were all put in a strategies for learning class called XL. Honestly, best class I've ever taken. You don't have to be failing to take this class, and everyone should take it as a freshman. This class just taught me so much about myself and how to succeed not only in college but in life! This class is small so it was easy to make friends in. We played games and did fun activities, like a scavenger hunt across the whole campus! This class isn't for a grade, it's solely to help you learn about yourself and how you learn best. It was nice having one class that i didn't have to worry about so much and that was actually fun, and i advise anyone and everyone to take it! Just don't forget to get involved, go to class, and just have fun!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors are amazing; they teach the curriculum very clearly and are available during office hours for additional help. The university also offers free tutoring in every major, which is very helpful as well. Being at Texas Tech has helped me push my brain to limits that I did not know where possible. I am happy to be apart of such a studious university.
Am enjoying being here There are over 400 organizations for students to join. At Texas Tech you will always find something to do whether its attending a football game or an engineering meeting. The fun never ends. Weekends are full of excitement, with streets full of excitement as well.
I love Texas Tech University!!!
GO RED RAIDERS!!!!!Bang for the buck I feel that I am getting the bang for my buck. For my tuition I get to attend every home game of any sport for free, I get as big of a meal plan as I want, and I get to learn from some of the best professors in the nation.
Tips for prospective students If you are a prospective student, I suggest you at least have a 2.75 gpa in high school, be involved in many extracurricular activities and apply early.
Great for these types of students Texas Tech is great for students that have an open mind, are full of energy, and ready to learn!!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot TTU has taught me so much through the professors I have had who love there subject that they teach! I have had some great professors that I highly recommend to any student who needs to take the specific classes. I also feel like I have help in every area of life here since there is free access to tutoring, free counseling, the student health center, community advisors, and plenty of churches to seek spiritual help. I never feel alone with no where to go.
Am enjoying being here Being at Tech has changed me so much for the better! There are so many nice people here in Lubbock and almost everyone has a smile on their face! I have found so many places to get involved in and have made connections and acquired a perfect nanny job through connections I have made! There are also so many places to go in Lubbock as much as any normal city. Lubbock has about every major restaurant as well as small local dining places, there is a mall, museums, and much more.
Bang for the buck With the tuition it costs to attend Texas Tech, the school provides so many free events for students to attend during welcome week and throughout the semester. They are opened to all students and its easy to find free t-shirts or free food at many of the events and is also a great activity to do with new friends!
Tips for prospective students College is what you make of it! This statement is so true, you will find what you want from college and Texas Tech has much to provide as well as the city of Lubbock! Most people associate Texas Tech as a party school, but it is just as much of a party school as any other college. I have experienced quite the opposite and have become extremely involved in a church and have grown and matured much in my faith as I have made many friends who hold me accountable!
Great for these types of students Texas Tech is a great school for students who will take the initiative to look for ways to get plugged in! It does not require much looking, and with the diversity of students at Tech, you can find as many different groups to be apart of as you want. TTU is also an excellent school for those who do not mind west Texas weather. Most people don't like the dry climate and it is not great in the winter, but compared to most cities in the hot summers, west Texas is the best location with hot, dry days and cool, breezy nights!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors take the time to ask the class if there are any questions during lecture. There are study groups, and study sessions ran by students that have already taken the class.
Am enjoying being here I love the people here. They are so nice. I can walk up to a complete stranger and say hello, and a conversation is almost guaranteed. The school spirit here is amazing. You can tell the students truly care about our school.
Tips for prospective students Study. This college does push you to work hard. It wont be easy, but if it was everyone would come here. You'll be proud of the work you get done here.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences in just one semester, texas tech has helped me become the person i've always wanted to be. i've learned so much in such a short amount of time, and i can't wait to spend the next three years here. i can honestly say i've had the time of my life here.
Tips for prospective students with all the new freedom that comes with going away to college, you'll probably be tempted to test your limits. i think you have to learn what these limits are on your own, but don't push them too far. as cliché as it sounds, there is a lot of responsibility you need to take on, and if you don't own up to it, it will come back to bite you.
Academic Rigor texas tech's classes provide the perfect balance between work and learning. unlike most places, you get out exactly what you put in for the classes. if you put in the time and studying that it takes to do well in a class, you'll be rewarded. vice versa, if you slack off and try to do the minimum amount of work to just get through a class, you won't get very much out of it.
Dorm Life i was surprised by how friendly and welcoming all the students in the dorm were. each floor is like its own miniature family, and we all take care of one another. everyone makes dorm life out to be a miserable experience, but if you go in with a good and friendly attitude, you'll come out of it with life-long friends and a great learning experience.
Food and Dining the food on campus goes above and beyond cafeteria food. each dorm has their own dining hall with a unique selection of food, making the options endless. you really can't make a bad choice, and i hardly ever miss home-cooked meals because of how great the food is here.
What to do for fun because lubbock is such a small town, everyone thinks that it gets boring here. however, there's plenty of stuff to do for fun. almost every week i go out with my friends (and pretty much the rest of the university) to wild west, a local dance hall. other nights we'll go to the drive-in movie theater and get dinner at one of the amazing local places to eat. most nights, though, we usually just check and see what tab (tech activities board) has going on that night. they organize hundreds of fun things like free bowling, movie nights, dance parties, and ice cream socials.
Bang for the buck i've had the most amazing time of my life so far at texas tech. the food, dorms, and academics are outstanding for the price that you pay for them, but the experience that you get out of going to school here is what's priceless. you meet so many amazing people, and every day feels like an adventure. i've never been so proud to call a school my own.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus one of my favorite traditions that tech does every year is called carol of the bells. thousands of christmas lights get put up all over campus, and one night just before winter break, everyone comes out to watch them get turned on. getting to see them all light up at once with all my fellow students is an experience i'll never forget. and while this is probably one of my top traditions, the football games are my absolute favorite thing we do at tech. seeing over 70,000 screaming fans dressed from head to toe in red and black cheering on our red raiders at every game is a sight that never ceases to amaze me.
Great for these types of students if you're looking for the full package - great academics, great people, and an overall outstanding experience - then tech is perfect for you.
Clubs and Activities it seems like there's a club for everyone. i'm personally a member of the quidditch club, which i just joined as something fun to do on the weekends.
Greek Life there's sororities and fraternities around every corner if you're looking for a bigger commitment. though i'm not personally involved in these, i know many people who are, and who rave about how great it is to be part of a group of people so close.
Campus Safety with all the recent shootings at universities, you would think being away at a college would make you feel uneasy. however, i've never felt safer. there are blue lights every couple of feet all over campus, which when pressed, will have campus police at your side within 90 seconds. dorms are also kept safe by being completely locked without a raider id card programmed specifically for that dorm. there are also campus police that constantly patrol, and seeing them around campus makes me feel safe and secure.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here in the Honors College and across campus are fantastic! Check out reviews of professors online or ask an older student about them to make sure you get the best one.
Am enjoying being here There is so much to do on campus and I'm never bored, even though Lubbock doesn't sound like the most fun place in the world, there is actually a lot to do.
Bang for the buck Is college really ever cheap? Tech is a great school and it's a state school, so it's not that bad at all. Since Tech is pushing for Tier 1 status, lots more money is coming in so it's sure to just get better!
Tips for prospective students Get some good walking shoes; it's a big, beautiful campus. Once you're here, get involved. Go to the TAB (Tech Activities Board) events and meet some people in your dorm. Hang out at the SUB and grab a smoothie with some classmates. Talk to your professors!!! You'll need them to write recommendation letters for you and they are, usually, really nice people.
Great for these types of students Great for people who want a large school where the people are friendly and you never run out of new things to do. WRECK'EM TECH!!!!!

Categories Rating Comments Will enjoy being here The campus is beautiful, and does a great job of relaying the small town feeling while still being in the middle a decent sized city. I can't wait to interact with the student body and get involved in everything they have to offer.
Bang for the buck Great attention to personal experience! Texas Tech does a great job of interacting with their prospective students and making them feel like a part of the experience.
Tips for prospective students Fill out everything early to get the best dorms, classes, and scholarships. Then get involved with organizations!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers are very willing to help you by any means necessary you just need to take the initiative and make an appointment to see them.
Am enjoying being here People at Texas Tech are very friendly and welcoming. Getting involved is the best way to meet great people, and there's so many of them.
Bang for the buck Texas Tech, like any university has costs and fees but these can be covered with loans, scholarships, and/or grants.
Tips for prospective students If you're planning to attend Texas Tech be prepared for fluctuating weather all the time, so bring a heavy coat and shorts. Also, try and take as many AP or dual credit classes in high school as you can so you can take more classes that you're interested instead of the basic Math, English, etc.
Great for these types of students Texas Tech is great for students who want to further their education and also meet lifelong friends and learn valuable life lessons.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I loved the environment here at Texas Tech. The professors are great, the classrooms full of potential friends, and everyone is friendly. This atmosphere makes learning easier and more importantly, fun.
Am enjoying being here I grew up in Lubbock, so I have always been a Red Raider fan. Still, when classes are in full swing, I feel like I'm somewhere else entirely, and I love it! There is always something going on, and Tech is a really big part in that.
Bang for the buck Tech is striving to became a Tier One school, and I know the degree I will receiving will be worth the money. Tuition isn't bad compared to other colleges in the state and it is certainly worth it.
Tips for prospective students Go to class everyday, there are perks. Get to know professors and sit in the front rows so professors will recognize you. Join organizations, you will meet a lot of people and have great experience for internships and jobs.
Great for these types of students Greek! If you want to have a huge social experience at Texas Tech, go Greek. They even have professional organizations, I am involved one and absolutely love it! Delta Sigma Pi!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers are professional and are looking to help you succeed. If you need help or tutoring it's easy to find study groups, tutoring, and professors have great office hours that are really convenient.
Am enjoying being here The people here and the atmosphere are great because everyone is proud to be a Red Raider. The football team is a big part of the student enthusiasm and if you don't like football you know that you will leave a Red Raider fan.
Bang for the buck I know that college isn't cheap but Texas Tech offers a lot of ways to get financial aid.
Tips for prospective students Start applying early, have everything done by the financial aid due date so you wont have to worry about anything else. Take a tour of the university, take a few friends, ask your teachers what they think of the colleges, but make sure you find one that you know you will be able to live there.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences texas tech university is by far a home away from home for me. i met so many unique and diverse people and grew closer to them as my temporary family. texas tech is, was, and will always be my number one choice
Tips for prospective students don't hesitate to view the campus! texas tech has a lot to offer for everybody from the geeky to the freaky. tech will definitely not disappoint you in your curiosity about this prestigious campus.
Academic Rigor texas tech is very academically challenging. you have to focus in class and listen in lectures unlike most high school classes. if you pay attention and continue striving for honor, then you will succeed here at texas tech.
Dorm Life my dorm floor is awesome. the food is great, and i love hanging out with my the guys on my floor. it couldn't get much better!
Food and Dining the food is really good actually. i eat the same thing pretty much everyday and the food never seems to disappoint me.
What to do for fun there is so many things to do on campus. sporting events are going on consistently, the student recreation center is open 18 hours out of the day most days and if you aren't into that type of stuff then the sub has theaters for people to enjoy plays or movies.
Bang for the buck texas tech is definitely worth the pretty penny you have to pay for going to college here. dorm, campus, and student life are all great to be involved in and it is sure not to disappoint.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus texas tech wraps the will rodgers and soapsuds statue the night before the football games. why? i can't even answer honestly, but it's strange to see a red horse and horseman as opposed to a blackish rusty colored one.
Clubs and Activities tech has so many different social groups and student led organizations. from the equestrian team to the theater club, all the way to the zombie game, tech has something for everybody.
Greek Life i'm not huge on greek life. my girlfriend is in a sorority and it has consumed her life and she fell into the stereotypical sorority girl act. the guys aren't the nicest either. they think they are better than everyone else when really they are no better than their fellow student.
Campus Safety texas tech has emergency button systems on pretty much every corner. from where i live, i can see three safety emergency buttons that are not more than 100 yards away. in addition to these emergency buttons, the police will be there within 90 seconds after one of the buttons has been pushed, so the safety is incredibly tight around campus.

Am enjoying being here I am not involved in the Greek life so it has been more difficult to find a group of friends. Other than that everything is wonderful
Bang for the buck This is an expensive school, but the education is one of a kind. Worth every penny!

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot I was only there for a year but I learned how to take care of myself and I grew up a ton being there learning how college life works and how the college life and high school life are two totally different things.
Did enjoy being here I made a ton of friends and it is really easy to get involved. There is a bunch of stuff to do so you do have to do some research but it is completely worth it.
Bang for the buck It is a bit expensive however it is worth it. There are new things you can find all over the campus it is a small city within a small city. It's in a small town so you have a nice mix of small and big town appeal
Tips for prospective students It's a big change but there are people who can help you just look around and be open to making new friends.
Great for these types of students outgoing, friendly, willing to make a big change in their life.

Am enjoying being here I love Tech, and have loved it ever since I was in kindergarten. I am absolutely thrilled to be here.
Bang for the buck You could get the same core classes at a community college for cheaper, but the environment and community around Tech make up for it.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to do a lot of walking, and make sure to check the website and get everything taken care of early.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned so much from every single teacher that I've had. The professors are so great that I'm getting A's in subjects that I have no previous knowledge or experience in. It's great!
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and there are many opportunities to volunteer and have fun! Lubbock is a great bustling town filled with things to do in your free time. I'm really liking it!
Bang for the buck With all of the great teachers, the large campus, up to date technology, and many opportunities, I think Texas Tech is well worth the money.
Tips for prospective students If you're used to living in a place that has the same weather all year long, I would suggest bringing clothes for every season. It get really hot in the summer and it snows in the winter so be prepared! Also, be ready to pay a lot for textbooks! They're more expensive than you think! And don't only rely on the campus bookstore for books! There are many other places in town that offer cheaper books!
Great for these types of students Students that know about livestock and farm life would probably fit in really well here. Plus, Texas Tech is in the Bible Belt so lots of conservative students would find many people with views like theirs as well.

Am enjoying being here There is always something going on and plenty of student specific events that you can take part in.
Bang for the buck Tech is expensive, but what college isnt? If you really want to think about it, you will earn more money in your life if you invest now. Also there are lots of student benefits that are said to be free, but its really just a way of saying hey youre paying all this money, heres some thing to say thank you.
Tips for prospective students Just have fun and study hard. If you study you will do great
Great for these types of students all

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot because of the Upward Bound program I had the opportunity to take college classes on Texas Tech campus. I was thrilled to be in class for summer one. I am not going to lie the classes can be difficult if you are from a small school like me but I will promise you that the Professors care about there students and they will help you if you take the time and effort to ask and seek help!
Will enjoy being here I am very excited on going to campus. I have been there many times and the people you see are willing to help you if you have problems!
Bang for the buck I find college as expensive as the next person but this college is like a family. It is in my opinion worth the cash.
Tips for prospective students Fill your Fasfa, Read your Syllabus! and never EVER throw them away! and study study study!!! do your homework and sit on the first row! get to know your professor and don't call them by there first name!!!!!!
Great for these types of students If your willing to put the time and effort into your work this is a great place for you. It's a place were they treat you like famliy and if you see me on campus ill be your friend because thats what college life should be like, education with support.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I think so. The first year classes are chosen for you but they cover diverse subject areas typical of most law schools.
Will enjoy being here I thought it was a great personal touch that the dean added a written note on my letter of acceptance about what I personally could bring to the campus based on my application and resume. Every time I call, they are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Bang for the buck TTU Law School is consistently top ranked for getting the most bang for your buck. I've heard over and over that TTU actually prepares you for being a lawyer better than many higher rated schools.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot Hi. Can someone please tell me what my chances are of being accepted to TTU?
I have a 3.3 GPA (about an 88), but am barely in the bottom half of my class (top 51%). I live in the San Antonio area and attend Alamo Heights High School. In case none of you know, it's ridiculously competitive here and a good majority of the kids are in AP, which gets them more points right away. I'm not one of those kids. Plus my class is very small (only 374 people). At a normal school, a 3.3 GPA would put me well in the top half or maybe even top 25% of my class. Really, a 3.3 is not bad at all.
So will Texas Tech take look at the kind of school I go to when they consider me, or will they look solely at my class ranking no matter what? Alamo Heights is among the best and most competitive schools in Texas so that immediately puts me at a disadvantage.
I haven't taken the SAT, but I got a 1480 on the practice one I recently took. Let's just assume that's the score I send to TTU. Would that be good enough?
Please tell me about my chances. I would greatly appreciate it!Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Texas Tech University is large university with a small university feel. The faculty and staff at Texas Tech are very friendly and are more than willing to help you to ensure that you are successful. The advisors at Texas Tech are not terrible, but make sure that you do your research on what you need to graduate and ask plenty of questions.
Tips for prospective students Establish good study habits prior to enrolling into a university. Time management is essential to be successful in college. Visit your high school career counselor's office to help you find what major is right for you if you need help deciding. Be involved on campus...join an organization & explore what all campus have to offer!
Academic Rigor Texas Tech University is an institution that excels academically. If you utilitze all of your resources, it is worth every plenty. There are plenty of places on campus to get help if you need it in a course. Texas Tech has strong science, architecture, and engineering programs.
Dorm Life Dorm life at Texas Tech is good. Most of the dorms on campus now are being renovated, and they are also in the process of completing new on-campus apartments. Chitwood/Weymouth is the worst/party dorm. Horn/Knapp, Stangel/Murdough, Murray Hall, and Carpenter/Wells are the best places to stay if your not in the Honors College.
Food and Dining The food you do get tired of after a while, yet there are still a lot of options of places to eat. However, the campus is very large so you make not feel like walking to the other side of campus. The Market is the best, and its 50% if you have a dining plan.
What to do for fun Lubbock is a very small town, but night life is pretty good for such a small place. Most students go to the movies, go to nightclubs, go out to eat, go to the leisure pool, etc. A lot of students also go camping in surrounding cities and states. The students activities board on campus usually also hosts great events throughout the year.
Clubs and Activities There are more than 60 student organizations on campus. I am involved in 3 organizations at Tech, and I definitely recommend to anyone coming in to join one. They are so many different organizations and so many things to become interested in. Student organizations are a very large part of campus.
Greek Life Greek life is huge at Texas Tech! I am not a part of a greek organization and at first I felt out of place and that if you weren't greek you were a nobody. This is why I joined various other student organizations. If you want to greek, Texas Tech is definitely were you need to be.
Campus Safety We rarely have any issues on Tech campus, and the campus officers are always patrolling campus. As a female student, I feel comfortable walking at nighttime to and from my dorm.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I love the campus life as well as the friendly faces around the school. The setup is great so that each degree and like ones are all in the same area for less walking time. Despite all the awesome, I hate the actual town of Lubbock, it's just not very nice.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you can understand the last name of the teacher, if you cant pronounce it, don't take the class, the odds of you understanding what they are saying are slim.
Academic Rigor Depending on the class, some require more effort than others.
Dorm Life I loved when I lived in the dorms! It's where I met the majority of the friends that I have!
Food and Dining Many fast food restaurants as well as dining in all dorms.
What to do for fun Lubbock is a really boring town, the majority of people bar hop, in my case, I am married, so we seek activities at the rec, or local gyms. I's actively working at the equestrian center on campus and we spend a lot of time cooking out!
Bang for the buck Lubbock as a town is very pricey, they know they can raise prices and we will have to pay them since there is no surrounding towns to run to for a cheaper quick price.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every game day they wrap the statue in tech colors.
Great for these types of students great for what types of students? this question makes no sense!
Clubs and Activities THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO AND SOMETHING TO GET INVOLVED IN AN ANY ASPECT! If you are jewish indian monk with bad breath and a mohawk, there is probably a group for that.
Greek Life I wouldn't know, i'm not in that circle.
Campus Safety Campus police are great, there's not a weekend that rolls by and you don't see them pulling over some unfortunate person for something.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences My first year here at Texas Tech has been amazing! Everyone is so nice and helpful and I have made a lot of new friends. I would recommend this school to anyone..WRECK EM!
Tips for prospective students Just make sure you get involved in something whether it is a club or a sports team. Tech is so big that if you aren't involved you won't enjoy it as much and you won't be as likely to make as many friends. There are tons of organizations for anyone and everyone so just take the time to look around and find where you fit in!
Academic Rigor Tech has awesome professors! The most important thing I have learned this year is if you are having trouble in a class GO TALK TO THE PROFESSOR!! They are for the most part willing to work with you if you show them that you really care. The classes aren't all easy and you definitely have to work for your grades but there are a ton of resources on campus to help you be successful.
Dorm Life I have really enjoyed living on campus! It is really nice because you are already on campus so everything is super close and you can walk everywhere on campus without it being too far away. The dorms are also an excellent way to meet new people! There are obviously the down sides such as having loud neighbors but most of the time if you ask them to quiet down they will. Dorm life has been awesome!
Food and Dining My favorite place to eat on campus is the Market in Stangel/Murdough. You get a fifty percent discount just for having a meal plan so it is cheaper and the food is really good. I have eaten at other places on campus too and have yet to find something that is not good!
What to do for fun There is always something going on at Tech. TAB has free events such as showing recently released movies or make your own license plate. Also around campus there are tons of things to do such as parks, clubs, restaurants, movie theaters, and bowling. People always say Lubbock is boring but I have yet to have a boring weekend!
Campus Safety There are always cops patrolling campus which makes it feel a lot safer! There are also blue poles around campus so if you are being chased you can push them and the cops can follow the path to find you!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences All of the currently attending students are very social. There's always a new experience around the corner. All of the professors are fantastic in their own way, the curriculum here is amazing.
Tips for prospective students Apply for financial aid very early. Apply early to help assure admittance. Be sure to join in a club, it will triple the experience of college.
Academic Rigor The science classes are top notch, I managed to sit in a few of them. They're very intense, chemistry especially. I am very impressed by the rigor.
Dorm Life I've had the honor of staying the night in a dorm, with a friend I made there during my visit. It's very friendly, some people prefer to keep their doors open, others do not.
The bathrooms are very clean, water runs hot or cold. The dorms themselves, it depends which one you apply to, some are newer then others. Their maintenance is very good. Laundry is included with dorms (that's right, free driers and washing machines!). Dorms also come with free tutoring. Be sure to become buddies with your CA.Food and Dining There is an assortment of on campus foods. Overall they're delicious. Some dorms are directly connected to food courts (a plus in the winter, trust me). I've never heard of any sort of kitchen mishaps, the food always tastes good.
You never have to wait long to grab some grub. Quick in and out. If you get a dorm, you must have a meal plan (Tech bucks), which is very convenient when your late for class. What to do for fun Tech has a large assortment of clubs and activities. One I got to personally participate in was the Zombies Vs. Humans. Lots of excessive, everyone is full of energy. There's a sort of plot. You should check it out if you decide to attend this school. It doesn't interfere with school work. In fact, I guarantee that you will get to all of your classes early (gotta run from those zombies you see). It's very thrilling and adds to the average day.
Bang for the buck This school is actually one of the cheapest public schools I found, but it offers just as much. The dorms aren't a strangle when it comes to the price. They're actually reasonable. In fact, they're cheaper then renting an apartment (though they are considerably smaller). Tuition itself is VERY GOOD considering Tech is a university. They offer wide ranges of financial aid. If you want to go to Tech, you most certainly can find a way to afford it. Just remember! You must act early.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's an old barn that resides on the campus, as well as a corn mill (I believe it's a corn mill thing?). They serve no purpose, they're just there. The majority of the students do not want these structures torn down...
There's the Rec Center, and an extreme sports club - dunno thought it was interesting.
As for unusual traditions, their mascot runs around during football games I believe (on a live horse).Great for these types of students Social students! There are 30,000 students on campus, so many faces. If you want a close and personal community, then this school is probably not for you. Everyone is out going and friendly, after all the majority of these students are classic cowboys/cowgirls. You are guaranteed to have endless opportunities to meet someone new.
Oh, and did I mention? The campus is huge (supposedly 2nd largest in the nation!) No fear of that freshman 15! Just be sure you don't mind biking to classes, or it may take a while.
I thought I should add, while the campus is large, the architecture is lovely... it's amazing during the winter, it's simply breathtaking.Clubs and Activities Like I previously mentioned, Zombie Vs. Humans! Seriously, it's worth checking out. It's amazing.
Extreme sports club looks like something I may look into. I believe they do scuba diving.
They have several art opportunities and career opportunities (FUN career opportunities).Greek Life They have a big greek life, but I haven't checked it out yet. They're very nice though, not what I typically thought of sorority girls or frat guys.
Campus Safety Police are constantly on the alert, always scanning for suspicious activity. And they will get you if you're going over the speed limit (20mph). If there is some sort of vandalism, they will do their best to get to the bottom of it (and they usually do).
Vandalism doesn't happen often though. The school is very educated and clean, I've never seen any suspicious or illegal activity.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Texas Tech University is a great place to go to school. There are many opportunities to get involved and enjoy the atmosphere. Texas Tech is a place where just about anyone can find a niche.
Tips for prospective students Prepare for all kinds of weather. The campus is BIG. Some freshman classes can be large, so be prepared for that.
What to do for fun Leisure pool, football games, Broadway.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Tour de Tech Terrace happens every semester. More than 1,000 bicycle riders take a ride through a neighborhood near campus and hilarity ensues.
Great for these types of students Funloving, outgoing, open-minded people will thrive here.
Clubs and Activities More than 400 clubs you can join.
Greek Life Fraternities and sororities are big at Texas Tech, but if you're not into Greek Life there are plenty of other things to do.
Campus Safety Late night shuttles and buses are a big help.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences An Amazing school to attend with friendly students and helpful teachers. So far I have had the best two semesters of my life.
Tips for prospective students Go to class and read your text books.
Academic Rigor They find ways to make each major fun but challenging and thought provoking.
Dorm Life Be prepared for very little living room and try not to move in with your best friends.
Food and Dining I love the food and there are twenty six places to eat on campus i.e. there is always something different to try.
What to do for fun Sports and clubs, the theater department puts on four plays each semester and every month they show a movie in the Student Union Building for free.
Bang for the buck I got mine. One on one attention with my professors and they have labs for every subject in case you get confused or lost.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The wrap a statue in red paper every home game.
Great for these types of students Tech students welcome all. I've meet students from other countries, with different religions and sexual orientation.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Texas Tech is an awesome University for anyone and everyone especially those looking for a small town feel (thats if you come from a big metropolitan area like Houston or Dallas. The campus has a remarkable campus architecture which is Spanish influenced and is very beautiful and conducive to the student experience as well. They only draw-back is the weather which is very unpredictable especially the dust storms.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering a University of this magnitude like Texas Tech then keep in mind that there is a student population of 30,000+ up to 45,000. Unlike other institutions, Texas Tech has plenty of room to accommodate space (2nd largest campus in the United States!) but keep in mind space availability when considering universities especially in classes, room..etc
Academic Rigor The academics are first to none. Here focus on studies are just as important as well as creating a robust student. College is what you make of it and that means a good amount of time studying especially in the College of Engineering and for Energy Commerce majors
Dorm Life There are great housing faiclities at Texas Tech and then there are not so great looking ones. There are old looking dorms despite the number of renovations and face lifts they go through; still livable however. What make the Dorm life here great especially for a student are the programs, academic help and opportunities available; There are people here who are here solely to give the best possible student experience on campus and I love it!
Food and Dining The food here takes a little getting used to; though Texas Tech has several iconic food restaurants (which are very delicious might i add) once you have exhausted those or eaten there too much you may find yourself missing some good home cooked meal. They are however considering adding new dining facilities which I'm looking forward to but for now not a vast variety.
What to do for fun As for to do's I could higlight a lot of stuff. There are numerous things a student can find themselves doing from a night life full of clubbing and partaying to
Bang for the buck Its only one of the best bang for your buck but has been proven so by U.S News Report, and Forbes. Quantity and Quality is both present no matter the tuition increases across the state of Texas, Texas Tech still remains comparatively low among other major institutions.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One unique tradition which i don't see much anywhere is the wrapping of an iconic statue of some sort except in Texas Tech's case they warp a statue located at the front of the school completely in red streamers from head to tow. The only college i can see this type of tradition of this magnitude is the University of Auburn wrapping of their Historical tree in tissue paper.
Great for these types of students Students wanting a small town feel or students looking for a big campus environment. It is also great for any student who is willing and open to new cultures, ideas, and concepts. Texas Tech is the places to explore diversity.
Clubs and Activities If there isn't a club you like or one that exist you can create and establish one with the Universities Department of Campus life and Student Organizations
Greek Life Greek life is very much alive and kicking with all sorts of fraternities and sororities including service based and religion oriented.
Campus Safety Safety here at Texas Tech goes above and beyond anyone's expectation. I give it the nickname the blue-light district due to the blue light poles that have panic buttons located on them and once pushed could dispatch an officer to that location within seconds. The campus is so big that is has its own police force equipped with the full enforcing power of the State -this is fifty times better than campus with security guards who cant do much but card you and shine a flash light in your face.

Tips for prospective students Live on campus your first year! Be confident and make friends with your peers. The sports events get packed fast, especially football games. Get there early!
Academic Rigor Rigorous classes are to be expected but dorms have tutoring centers and the library is open from Sunday afternoon to Friday night, 24/7. Professors are also good about helping students during office hours.
Dorm Life Dorms are nicer than I first expected when I came my first year. Do your research about where you might want to live, though. Make sure its where you want to be location-wise on campus, what the dorm is close to, etc.
Food and Dining The best places to eat are The Market and Sam's West in the Wiggins Complex. Best food and the Market is half-priced.
What to do for fun Go hang out at the Rec Center or go hang out at the Student Union Building. There is always something going on on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences a school that strives for a lot. the school as a whole delivers on its promises. certain departments are stuck in an antiquated mind set.
Tips for prospective students grad school is what you make of it. you will need to balance all of the many obligations.
Academic Rigor this depends on the department. the school as a whole is rigorous and dedicated to being tier 1 and research oriented.
Dorm Life dorm life is great, even if you live off campus.
Food and Dining there is a surprising amount of options both commercial, regional unique.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i would give ttu a b-. while others will have completely different experiences, mine was not spectacular, nor was it horrible. socializing is not the easiest if you are not in a greek organization and lubbock's proximity to anything gets old at times. academically, i feel i have gained a standard education, but know for a fact that other universities have superior programs, technology and communities.
Tips for prospective students lubbock is far away from any major city, so mental preparation is important. spontaneous trips don't happen due to great travel distances. you will need to be extremely proactive in your advising sessions. they will not prepare for you, so you need to research thoroughly to make sure you are on track in your degree plan. i have several friends who have been in difficult situations due to over-looking a degree plan requirement that their advisor did not even catch during advising sessions, or they were flat out told incorrect information about a degree program, which was the entire reason they attended the school. be proactive.
Academic Rigor academic rigor at tech is what you make it. certain programs are better than others, so ask around and contact the individual college you are interested in. some departments will drop you from a class after 3 absences, while others have no attendance policy. look at myprof.com to see stats for professors in your desired college.
Dorm Life again, this all depends on what you make of it and which dorm you're in. chitwood/weymouth are the very worst dorms on campus. small rooms with furniture that is attached to the wall. horn/knapp are all girls, with bledsoe being all guys. these have the biggest rooms with stackable/moveable furniture. murray is for sophomore+ and are the nicest on campus; you have a common room with 4 individual rooms and two bathrooms. each floor has a community advisor who plans programs and activities throughout the semester, which not a lot of people go to, but are actually fun.
Food and Dining while there is a great selection of fast food places on campus (chick-fil-a, quiznos, etc) and the three dining halls are average, it is difficult to eat healthy on campus. there are salad bars, but that is the only source of oil-free vegetables on campus, which gets old after a while. lubbock doesn't always have the freshest produce, which causes problems on occasion.
What to do for fun people will complain there is nothing to do in lubbock, it has the same amount of entertainment that any city of 300,000 people would have. it is the fast food capital of the us; several movie theaters; drive in movie theater; mall with high end retailers around town; parks; concerts; bars/clubs; bowling; hiking/biking trails; paintball.
Bang for the buck tech is reasonably priced considering the cost of higher education. it is not ridiculously high and is comparable to any other state university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus before varsity games, will rodger and soap suds is wrapped in crepe-paper (party streamers); will and soap suds positioned so their backs are turned towards a&m; there is a huge bonfire before homecoming.
Clubs and Activities there are 400 clubs on campus; lots of sports activities
Greek Life huge on campus. a significant % of freshmen rush.
Campus Safety tech police are able to be anywhere on campus within 2-3 minutes. there are several places that are poorly lit, but there is a late-night bus and safe ride, which is a free cab service for students from 8pm-4am, and will take you home from parties or if you need a ride late at night. there is a lack of blue boxes, though. these are emergency poles with a blue light on top and have emergency button, which will notify police to come to that location and will dial a connection to talk to an officer. at other universities these are visible from anywhere you are on campus, but you really need to memorize where they are on tech campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences create advising department, they are really there to help. great financial aid department, they will work with you to make college happen. every texas tech graduate i have met is successful.
Tips for prospective students school is important. education = future. i am a returning student and had some difficult live situations arise, which made me have to stop school. we all have a different paths to take in life, but in the end we must all have an education to continue down our path in life. education is key. texas tech is here to help you down this path. i couldn't have picked a better school.
What to do for fun if you like the outdoors there are lots of opportunities to go hiking, camping and trail blazing.
Bang for the buck texas tech makes school affordable and the cost of living in lubbock is low.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences texas tech university offers several opportunities to not only branch out and meet others, but also several outlets not only find tutoring or other outside help in class but to also relieve your stress that often accompanies class work. from intramural sports, to free on campus movies texas tech offers these and plenty of other relaxing activities including their huge almost mile long lazy river. texas tech is a wonderful place with a beautiful campus, kind and friendly people and is a fantastic place to pursue and education and also have a great college experience.
Tips for prospective students if you are a prospective student, i would first say get involved, to better your college experience get involved with different activities. tech offers several places to do that no matter what your interest. another tip would be to go to class and plan out things you have to do, this can be extremely helpful when you just have a bad week with several tests or a lot of homework due. my final tip would have to be plan your classes well, figure out when you function best and plan your harder more critical classes at those time. try and plan how you want to start out your day and when you want to end it. it may not always be possible but usually it will work out but most importantly make sure you look at the professor's grade distribution and where the class is located. the last thing you want is to be sprinting across the campus trying to get to your next class.
Academic Rigor the academic rigor is in part to what you make of it. there are several factors in this. it could vary on your teachers assistant, how you learn or most importantly your professor and your major.
Dorm Life the life in the dorms may not be for everyone. however everyone who does not live in the city will have to spend their first year in the dorm. the dorm life will vary from dorm to dorm. each dorm has their own perks. finding what dorm fits you the best and what you want from your college experience is the best way to find which dorm is best. however, one thing all dorms have is a cafeteria. each dorm has either a cafeteria or a small convenient store on the bottom floor, some even have both.
Food and Dining the food at texas tech good. like other colleges some places are better than others. however there is always something to eat, there is always a good variety, but if you get tired of eating what is by your dorm you can always go to the student union building. there, they offer several types of food. from your normal food court restaurants such as chik-fil-a and sbarros to other things such as burger places, sandwich places, convenient stores and even healthy choice restaurants. however, if you feel you want something else you can also go to the several other places that have amazing food just outside of campus.
What to do for fun texas tech offers several fun activities. from intramural activities such as sports, to free movies and other big activities. unlike other schools texas tech allows all students free admission to all school events. whether it be basketball games, soccer games, baseball games, or even football games.
Bang for the buck with all texas tech has to offer, i believe it is one of the best colleges you can go to and still not have to pay a huge fortune.
Campus Safety texas tech makes safety the number one priority. if you are lost there is always a number you can call no matter where you are on campus or in lubbock that will escort you anywhere free of charge. if you are scared to walk back to your dorm because it is late they will pick you up or have someone walk with you, and there are always campus police driving around on campus and they can be called at any time.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences tech has everything! the campus is gorgeous, the people are friendly and the wind is always blowing! (we invented the wind-blown look up here. you're welcome, america.)
Tips for prospective students enjoy walking. a lot. we have the largest campus in the u.s and it is absolutely beautiful! be interested in something. go greek, or join a club. just do something to get active and make friends!
Academic Rigor we are a big 12 school, so this isn't exactly a walk in the park. yes, some professors are easier than others, but the academic requirements for most majors will keep you challenged. everything is doable though.
Dorm Life so much fun! i lived in the dorms last year and they were a blast! i met so many friends! i currently live in the on-campus apartments and i've met most of our basketball and football teams just by random bbqs that they'll have in the courtyards. they were grilling one day and were going around to all the apartments and asking if we wanted to join. there is a great sense of community here!
Food and Dining there is somewhere to eat in almost every building! you'll never go hungry on campus! there are so many choices!
What to do for fun if you're at least 18, you must go to wild west on thursday nights. it's college night, and from 9pm-2am they play country,rap,hip-hop and sometimes even some techno! it's a great place to meet people. every friday night there is a concert. it's always big names. josh abbott band, kyle park, brad paisley, etc. etc. if you're 21, you have to go to blue light cafe down in the depot district. there's always a band playing there. best bar to go to!
Clubs and Activities there are so many! rugby, equestrian team, fishing, sky diving, paintball, fencing, anything and everything you could ever want to do.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences texas tech university is a school for people who want both a close knit college family and a large student community. our school provides many opportunities for academic success and encourages school unity. tech is a place to have fun while getting a degree from a well acknowledged school.
Tips for prospective students anyone looking into texas tech university as a prospective school should definitely look closely at the unity of the students. spirit is big on campus and if you think that you are not big on school pride, texas tech will change your mind. tech students are very supportive of each other whether it is in athletics, academics, or just anything you need support in tech students will be there. the faculty is also very involved and helpful; they want to see you become successful. texas tech is a very well rounded school and loves bringing in a variety of students to the school. just remember keep your guns up and strive for honor!
Academic Rigor texas tech is not a very hard school. academically it is very easy to pass because of all the opportunities the school provides for success. the classes are not easy, but because there are so many free tutoring and help centers on campus as well as professors and grad students willing to put in extra time to help you passing is not a hard goal. it is especially helpful that there are specific help centers per subject so that students get the best help possible.
Dorm Life dorm life at tech is great. there are so many free events that the dorms put on that bring each residence hall together as a family. also, many of these events provide free food and cool t-shirts because everyone knows college students don't tend to have money to spare. texas tech also has great maintenance and rha staff that can help any student living in the dorms with any problem asap. one thing though, bring plenty of blankets because it gets really cold sometimes.
Food and Dining the food at tech is better than most universities. the food is not typical cafeteria food; there are many more options. students can choose from buffet style meals or supermarket options. we even have some food courts with many different choices depending on your mood. also, tech does well to provide for all kinds of students with many vegetarian options and healthy choices. for students living on campus there are dining plans to choose from and with a dining plan students get discounts at many of the food courts and markets on campus.
What to do for fun texas tech university is located in lubbock, tx or as many like to call it the middle of nowhere. however, students always find plenty to do. the residence hall association always puts on free events like movies, concerts, and comedians coming to campus. also, tech students are very much proud of their sports teams so attending a football or basketball game is always a major event; plus, texas tech is one of the very few schools that lets students attend all athletic games free. there's even more, though, on the weekends the night life is great. there is always a party going on and the clubs in lubbock are surprisingly great. many musicians come to lubbock as well from many different musical tastes whether it's country, rock, metal, rap, or pop it's in lubbock. you won't ever be bored!
Bang for the buck texas tech costs about the same as every texas public university. however, there are so many scholarships available to those willing to apply and plenty of financial aid is given every year. also, if you're a non-texas resident like me and are able to recieve a minimum of $1000 in scholarship money from tech out of state tuition will be waved and you can save even more. texas tech is definitely worth the money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus texas tech red raiders are very spirited and respect all traditions on campus. during football games you must wear red and black and keep your guns up for our team. even the citizens of lubbock who do not attend tech respect this rule. also, we red raiders take pride in our matador song. you have to learn, know, and love it because it exemplifies our love for our school. one of the most important traditions thought is that no one can walk on the grass in memorial circle. in order to understand why you have to be a tech student. there are many more fun traditions on campus as well, but you will learn about that when you get here.
Great for these types of students texas tech is great for people who love spirit and love community. we are all about the unity of the school and supporting one another. also, are student body is very diverse and very welcoming; there is definitely a family for everyone.
Clubs and Activities texas tech has over 400 clubs and each year more and more students take the oppotunity to create more. there are clubs meant for community service, specific majors, sports, politics, interest groups, and almost anything you want. texas tech even has a quidditch team. if you want to find a group of people with your interest, no matter how strange, texas tech more than likely has a club for it.
Greek Life greek life at tech is not very big, however we have a good community for those interested in joining a fraternity or sorority. all the fraternities and sororities on campus are close knit and are there to help each other with anything whether it's academics or personal life. there is one strange thing about tech greek life however, none of the fraternity or sorority members live in the houses. according to a law passed in lubbock in the 1900's people cannot live in a house together if they have different last names, so tech frats and sororities don't live in their houses. besides that, though, tech greek life is a great community and fun experience.
Campus Safety texas tech is a very safe place. in fact, it is the safest place in all of lubbock. tech police are very helpful and protective of tech students and lubbock citizens. there are so many programs to keep students safe it is amazing. for example, if you are stuck studying in the library tell the late hours of night and your dorm is all the way across campus you can call safe nite and they will pick you up and bring you back to your dorm for free. tech also has what is called safe ride for students who need a ride from somewhere far off campus back to their dorm at anytime at night. there are many other free programs like these that keep tech and it's students safe.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences texas tech is a huge, incredible campus full of life and inspiration. i have never been presented with so many opportunities as i have now that i am a student at texas tech. every aspect of this university is so thrilling and intriguing.
Tips for prospective students if you are planning to attend texas tech, i would suggest learning the bus routes or brining a bike, the campus is huge! make sure you leave your dorm/house in time to make it to class on time. also, make sure you pack clothes suited for alaskan weather, chicago weather, and africa weather, because you never know what you're going to wake up to in the morning!
Academic Rigor i am proud to say i am from texas tech because of the incredibly dedicated staff. not once have i ever came across a professor/academic advisor/dean that did not put out all the effort they could to ensure my best education. as long as you are willing, they will lead you to success!
Dorm Life the dorm life is exciting to say the least. i went into it with a negative attitude, but definitely came out with something positive. it's great to meet people that are going to be around you constantly for the next year, you'd be surprised how many you will meet that share your major, interests, and classes. living in the dorms introduced me to many friends, study partners, and tutors, it was a great experience!
Food and Dining there are so many options at texas tech when it comes to dining, it doesn't even seem like school meals. from quiznos, to chick-fil-a, to sbarro, to chinese kitchens, to fresh pasta joints, texas tech dining really has it all. no matter what i crave, i can just head over to the sub, the market, or sam's and be instantly satisfied!
What to do for fun fun at texas tech is limitless! when the weather is warm, you can enjoy the lazy river and pool at the rec center, and maybe work out at the rec before you take a dive. whether it be track, basketball, football, or soccer, there is always some kind of sport going on that would love your support! in addition to those, there are so many organizations i can't even count! any interest you could possibly have is covered, and you won't regret getting involved!
Bang for the buck i grew up as a red raider, so i had pretty much decided where i wanted to go before i even took the campus tour, but i was so surprised at how much more there was to offer than i knew! the campus tour will have you sold, from traditions to organizations, everything about tech so far has been so much more than i expected. you won't be disappointed!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus when you drive into campus and see the masked rider wrapped in red, you'd better get your guns up! that means one thing: game day in raiderland and you better be there! around christmas time tech puts on carol of the lights, singing christmas carols and lighting up the campus with thousands of christmas lights! it's a great feeling to be involved in something so big!
Great for these types of students any type of student will fit in at texas tech, that's what's so great about it! i have been so welcomed by any type of group i have reached out to, and let me tell you, the number or various groups there are is unimaginable! the great thing about it is that no matter what group you are involved in, everyone is part of raider nation, and you can feel like the second you step on campus!
Campus Safety campus safety takes their job extremely seriously. i can't walk out of my dorm for 5 minutes without seeing campus police driving by and checking up on things. there is also emergency stops lit up on campus in case you would ever need one. they are lit up with blue lights and from every one you stand at you can see the next. it is designed like this so that you can run from emergency station to emergency station and campus police can track your path and make sure you are safe! i have never once felt unsafe on campus, which is extremely important to me.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences texas tech is a great place to meet new friends. it is a good atmosphere for learning and encouraging educational goals. sometime i find the administration a little difficult to work with.
Tips for prospective students make sure you go to classes even when they are not required to do so, sleep as much as you can but be willing to give up some in order to study and/or complete homework, get a dining plan because there are so many great places to eat on campus and you will run out of money to eat out all the time, and don't be afraid to talk to your professors!
Academic Rigor it is challenging enough without being impossible and there are a lot of opportunities for students to get tutoring on campus.
Dorm Life only from what i have heard; i am a transfer student and did not live in the dorms.
Food and Dining great options around campus! the sub is such a great place to find food for any appetite.
What to do for fun go to the sporting events, join greek life, get involved in enough student organizations to keep you busy, go work out at the rec. also there are a few things to do in lubbock that are fun to hang out with friends and go and do like go see a movie, go to the mall, go out to eat, go eat frozen yogurt...
Bang for the buck the tuition for this university is beyond cheap for a big 12 university. it has everything that any other state school would offer and lubbock really isn't as bad as people say it is.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the campus is huge and has everything you can think of on it. the stadium, the spirit arena where the volleyball and basketball teams play, and also there is a museum!
Great for these types of students outgoing, academic... i think tech offers enough diversity in atmosphere and student life that really anyone would enjoy being here. texas tech students are especially school spirited!
Clubs and Activities there are so many great clubs to join. a list that when typed out makes about 20 pages of information. clubs of all sorts too, academic/professional, special interest, multicultural, religious, etc. you name it, texas tech probably have it
Greek Life greek life is so much fun, however you do not have to join a greek organization in order to make friends. the greeks both sorority and fraternity are great fun though and open you up to events and socials that being a tech student alone may not give you access to.
Campus Safety i haven't heard of anything bad happening on campus. there are roads that go through campus but they are not major roads and they are closed to through traffic during typical school hours.

Tips for prospective students always plan out your class schedules before signing up. if you apply for financial aide make sure the fin. aide office receives your fafsa, (they lost mine...twice).
Academic Rigor this isn't high school anymore, so it's going to be really different academically. some classes are easier than others but that depends on your professor and what subject.
Dorm Life dorm life is great. i recommend getting to know your floor mates and your ca. try having an open door policy, people are more inclined to stop by and say hi.
Food and Dining every dorm has its own dining hall, so there are a ton of options. also there are restaurants within walking distance of the campus. try to avoid the student union building at noon, lunch rush gets really crazy.
What to do for fun there are so many things to do on and off campus. whether its athletic events or random activities there is something going on every night.
Bang for the buck you definitely get what you pay for.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus texas tech actually throws tortillas at football games. actually it was banned and can result in a 15 yard penalty against tech. but at the texas vs. a&m game in 1992, espn commentators said lubbock only has tech football and a tortilla factory. this didn't settle well with the student body. so when tech played a&m they protested by flinging tortillas into the air and onto the field.
Great for these types of students tech is great for all students. it is very diverse and has something to offer for everyone.
Clubs and Activities you name it we probably have it. we have intramurals, a skydiving club, even a quidditch club. (yes they do play and they run around on brooms).

Tips for prospective students study hard and keep up your grades but also join different organizations. it will look great on your resume to show that you have great grades and are a part different organizations. also there are tons of different clubs and activities you can join, which also helps in making friends!
Academic Rigor classes can be tough, especially if it's not something you are very interested in. but if you go up to your professors and ask questions about things you are unsure about they are all willing to help. also if you find someone to study with and stay on top of the readings and homework it makes things so much easier!
Dorm Life dorms are very nice, they are kept clean and i absolutely love my roommate. it's nice having a food place in every dorm so that way if the weather is bad one day you just have to walk downstairs to get food.
Food and Dining there are many different options all over the tech campus and they are actually pretty good, much better than high school cafeteria food!
What to do for fun there is a ton of things around campus you can do for fun. in the sub they are always having activities and movies, you will make tons of friends so you can always hang out with them, you can go work out at the rec or go swimming, and the list goes on!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Texas Tech has actually taught me a lot about college life in general. Like how to occupy your free time, how to study the right way, and still have fun while studying and going to classes. Of course when you first come to the University as a freshman you must do your basics, which I haven't done all yet, but I did my English and my intro class for my major which taught me so much about my major and made me re-think if this is what I wanted to do.
Am enjoying being here While I'm still here at Tech, I must admit it is nice and calm being here, I work on campus so that is a really good bonus because my job can work with my class schedule very easily and I get paid pretty well. The professors I've had have all been awesome, funny, and great at teaching the material. You can really become friends with your professors very easily here (what I've noticed anyway) they are really down to earth with every student and treat every student with fairness and respect. Also it is very hard to gain 15 pounds (you know? the Freshman 15) when you come to Texas Tech, since Tech is the 2nd largest campus in the nation, whether you walk, run, skate, or bike to your classes; you will get your exercise for the day.
Bang for the buck I believe this school is worth the money if you really intend on coming here. If you live here in Lubbock already, my advice would be to live with your parents. As lame as that sounds; it really does save you a great deal of money, but if you just want to get away from your parents for whatever reason then that is fine. I didn't stay in the dorms since Lubbock is where I was raised so I can't really talk about the cost for room and board and all that fun stuff.
Tips for prospective students Tips if you want/need money try to get a job on campus, it really does help with your scheduling. You get weekends off and don't have to work night, where I work anyways. When it rains a lot the streets of Tech will flood FAST so be prepared to walk in some rivers. You will get exercise everyday you walk or whatever you do to get class on campus since it is so big. The obvious tip is study, study, study! Don't procrastinate unless you want to be on academic probation and take the XL program class.
Great for these types of students To me it seems that Texas Tech University would be the ideal university for medical, law, biology (or other sciences), teaching, psychology, and journalism students. Rather than the students, like me, who are into acting, directing film, or anything else in that field, don't get me wrong Tech has a pretty good performing arts school, but for those who are really passionate about acting in either plays, television, or movies, they should really reconsider coming here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Every day is intriguing and brings new concepts and considerations into play. My profs are awesome, will explain everything to a student if they don't have a complete grasp of the subject matter, and always extend their time to the students they teach. You would be hard-pressed to find an apathetic professor, or the same from the professors' studious TA's.
Am enjoying being here Texas Tech, and Lubbock in general, has become the cliche home away from home for me. In a safe environment, one can chill with friends, get to class in a large variety of ways, or not go to class at all (but if you don't go to class, why did you pay for the classes in the first place?). There is a wide variety of food, and in the Market at Stangel/Murdough, you can get the same food for half the price as elsewhere on campus (as well as the fact that it stays open late). The dorms each have their own A/C gauge, and you never run out of hot water in the shower, no matter how many people are using it. In some dorms, you can elevate the beds, and fit mini fridges under there, creating even more space.
Bang for the buck While I am a bit iffy on the price for housing, overall the prices for everything else is decent if not swell.
Tips for prospective students Apply early for housing. You don't want to be one of those kids that applied too late and ended up not being able to get a dorm at all-- resulting in a mad rush for other options. They say that the will to succeed is nothing without the will to prepare, and you must prepare for college. Don't imagine it as an extended summer camp-- it is a school, and you are there to learn first and foremost. Everything else comes second.
Great for these types of students Everyone! As a gamer, I am aware of three different gaming groups that meet regularly. If you're interested in something, chances are, someone else is too and you just need to find them. With such a big campus, things are always going on, and sometimes they show movies in the Student Union Building before they're out on DVD. There are learning communities and greek stuff (for you greeky people) as well as a variety of things to do at the REC center. In the same day, you can climb on the one-foot-taller-than-A&M's rock wall, have belly dancing lessons, and play some water polo. There are literally thousands of things to do at any given moment.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot While attending Texas Tech a student won't just simply learn the material taught in the classroom, they will learn about how to interact with others, become responsible, and learn how to live life independently.
Am enjoying being here I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere here at Texas Tech, I also love the beauty of West Texas campus with the spanish architecture. The Students are hospitable and the professors are kind and understanding.
Bang for the buck Although all universities cost a great deal of money, Texas Tech is good at not being too expensive and what you pay for you do get a lot out of. As a part of your admin fees every student is able to attend every sporting event and campus wide programs.
Tips for prospective students Talk to your advisors and don't be too prideful to ask for help if you need it. The administrators are very kind and want you to prosper, so as long as you strive to receive help and find a way to work things out everyone will want to help you reach those goals.
Great for these types of students This school is really wonderful for business students, engineers, and any student interested in design. This school really helps kids engage in learning and achieve their goals in life.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Im not going to lie to you at all yes i am learning alot. Yeah the classes are large but that is at any university, but this experience has helped me to seek help alot by visiting the teachers during office hours and going to review sessions, etc. This is a great university academically
Am enjoying being here At first i really didn't because i wasn't making any friends to begin with but now I am loving it. Living on campus isn't the greatest as far as the quality of the dorms but it helps in terms of making grades. Because for me living on campus has helped me to make better grades since i have no excuse not to seek help from anyone.
Bang for the buck Its okay as far as the cost in tuition, the room and board (housing and meal plan) can be kinda expensive but i look at it overall and its really not that bad.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you are up for the challenge of taking these classes here like some profs can be a joke but most of them will actually help you as long as you seek help.
Great for these types of students Tech is diverse for all types of students and it is a great experience to be able to experience an education experience on a larger scale and gives an opportunity to be able to be yourself.
