    Am learning a lot

I've learned so much, not just in classes but being on my own and on campus. Responsibility is huge when in college. You have to study twice the amount of time you're in class. Aside from academics, I've learned how to cope without my circle of friends from high school. You quickly learn to make new friends and manage your time. Everything is coming together and I know when the academics get harder, I know I've got solid social skills behind me.

    Am enjoying being here

Chattanooga is a very beautiful place and the campus is small enough to pass at least someone you know everyday. Classes are medium in size and you can always get individual help from professors or tutors. The food is good ranging from Quiznos and Chik-fil-A to wraps, sushi and salads. The brand new gym is wonderful and the Aquatic center, once completed Fall 2010, will be decked out with a swimming pool, lazy river and water slide. There are plenty of clubs, intramurals, etc. to join and the musical performances are great. Plenty of things to do on and off campus with downtown within walking distance.

    Bang for the buck

After not being able to afford the University of Tennessee at Knoxville because of the cost of tuition, I came to UTC. I could not have made a better choice. Everything is less expensive. Not only is it less expensive but you get more for your money. A smaller campus means more individual attention from professors if you need it. The 'dorms' aren't the typical dorms. All of them feature two bedrooms, a bathroom (with 2 sinks) a full kitchen, living room and storage space. They come furnished with all kitchen appliances (stove top, microwave, refrigerator, sink and toaster oven), 2 beds, 2 desks, 2 dressers and 2 closets in each room, a kitchen table with 4 chairs, a couch and a chair for the living room. Each room has Internet and cable. The brand new gym is free anytime you want to go-it has all machines, basketball courts, rock climbing wall, etc. The campus if full of life everywhere you go and the little expense it costs is worth the price.

    Tips for prospective students

Consider this school and compare it to other schools on size, expenses and personality.

Great for these types of students

Great for students with goals. The academics are great so be ready to work hard.

    Am learning a lot

I am a freshman at UTC this year and have learned so much already. Classes can be difficult or easy, it all depends on what the student would like to take. Taking challenging classes is great here, I can push myself to learn even more by doing this. There are plenty of opportunities to explore a wide variety of classes for those who are undecided through general education requirements.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE being here. The dorms are some of the best in the state. Having apartment style rooms is great because students can cook, and not have to feel crammed in a tiny room to eat, sleep, and study in. The campus is not too big, but not too small. Having 10,000 is a great size. The campus is fairly compact so one can get anywhere in only a few minutes, but don't push it (I've tried, not recommended ;) There are tons of ways to get involved, intramurals, clubs to fit any personality and greek life are all popular choices. Greek life is much more relaxed than other schools, so give it a try!

    Bang for the buck

The price is definitely worth the education you receive. This campus is the up-and-coming UT campus, and many renovations are being done to bring this school to its full potential. New buildings and state of the art facilities are being added including a renovated Grote Hall and a new recreation center. The professors at UTC really care about their students so you are guaranteed a great education for an in-state price.

    Tips for prospective students

Please come visit! Maybe I'll see you around! :) If a student does apply, please apply for housing at the same time, don't wait! Even if you are not sure you are going to attend it is worth the small deposit fee, to guarantee a housing spot. Make sure the application is complete and on time! Be yourself! Have fun with the college admission process.

Great for these types of students

Student who learn better in smaller class sizes, non-traditional students and those who prefer to live at home and commute. Other than general education classes, most have what I call a 'high school' class size, around twenty-ish. Calling all business majors, the business school here is ranked one of the best in the country. It is great for students who do not want to be overwhelmed by a 30,000 student school, but would get bored at a small school with a thousand students. I love it! :)

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a lot of things here, but mostly I have learned new study methods. I have a good relationship with my teachers and I am able to ask for help when I need it. The classes aren't too big so the teachers have more time to help you when you need it. I want to major in communications and being able to relate to my teachers and participate in class is a big part of communicating.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus here and I have met so many new people. I usually play basketball in my free time with the new friends I have met. It's always something to do here and I am glad I chose this college to further my education.

    Bang for the buck

The cost is very expensive, but I strive to do good in my classes so that I can get scholarships and financial aid to help me further my career. I want to join a fraternity, but I realize that my grades come first, so I study hard. I guess when it really comes down to it, this school is worth the cost.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard and don't party alot. Sororities and Fraternities can wait. Your education comes first.

Great for these types of students

If you like to meet new people but don't want be overcrowded, this is a good place for you. The campus is just the right size and it is close to all the downtown Chattanooga attractions so if you want to go to the aquarium, you just walk down the hill.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot here because of the small class sizes and the ability to connect with the professors. UTC has so many accomidations to fit what ever major you happen to be studying. The Engineering, Math, and Computer Science building, also known as the EMCS building, is one of the best buildings on campus. There are four floors and each floor is perfectly suited for the specified majors. If you are an undecided major, you have the opportunity to scope out everything that you might be interested in and choose your major from there. You are never rushed into decisions that you may or may not be ready for.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying being at UTC because of the freedom of living in a dorm. I have made many friends through my classes and my building that I live in. The campus is a smaller size than usual campuses you may see somewhere else. I believe that the smaller campus helps you be more social. You see people that you know all the time, but it also gives you a chance to see and meet new people. Sororities and Fraternities are a great way to make new friends, but there are also many different church groups such as the House and the CRU that you can get involved in and meet new people. The city of Chattanooga is beautiful and the campus is easy to navigate around. I am proud to call myself a MOC because UTC really is a terrific school.

    Bang for the buck

Any college that you decide on going to is going to be a chunk of money from your pocket, but the good thing about UTC is that tuition is cheap if you live in the state of Tennessee. They have a lot of different dorms you can choose from to live in. The newest and nicest dorms just so happen to be the most expensive. The South Campus dorms are quite pricey, but they are worth every penny for the safety you feel and the friends you make. The school provides so much for such a small price.

    Tips for prospective students

Look for scholarships as soon as possible and do not wait until the last minute.

Great for these types of students

Great for education bound, bussiness bound, and art bound students looking for a great college to earn their degrees.

I love the teaching methods here at UTC. The instructors are willing to communicate with each student one-on-one. Great interaction.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus and the on-campus living. The dorms are apartment style and I love it.

    Bang for the buck

It is not very expensive to attend UTC. Close to all activities are free because it is included in your tuition. There is a free state of the art workout facility and all athletic events are free as well.

    Tips for prospective students

The hills here are killers, but the shuttle is free and runs all over campus.

Great for these types of students

    Any student.

    Am learning a lot

I have a great choice of classes to choose from. Because the classes are relatively small, I get to talk to my teachers more and can ask for more help if needed, which might not happen in a larger school. I'm not bored in class but not overly stressed with my load.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE IT HERE!! I will be a Sophomore this year and could not have found a better school for myself. I have made a lot of new friends which is very easy considering the small campus.

    Bang for the buck

Although college can get expensive, I feel that I have chosen a great place to resume my education. With it being a smaller school, I feel like not only is it less money than a major university, but you can get more one-on-one time with your professors which makes your money worth while.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! I did not want to join a sorority when I came to school but I decided to rush anyways. After I went through recruitment I was in love and having a blast. It made college a lot easier and a LOT more fun. If a fraternity or sorority is not your thing, find another involvement to get into. There is so much to offer for a smaller school.

Great for these types of students

If you want a smaller campus, big enough to where everyone doesn't know your personal life but small enough not to get lost all the time and you can wake up five minutes before class and get there on time.

I have learned a lot at UTC. Most of the professors are really good about helping out out if you need the extra help. They want to make sure that you understand the material they are presenting you.

    Am enjoying being here

There is so much to do in Chattanooga! From restaurants to movie theaters to mini golf, downtown has it all! That is really great for the people who cannot stay in their dorm the entire semester!

    Tips for prospective students

GO TO CLASS! Do not let the lack of an attendance policy make you lazy! You will not pass.

I absolutely LOVE this school. It's been a wonderful first year experience. The campus is just the right size, and you can walk anywhere on campus within 10 minutes. It's a beautiful city, and it's a beautiful campus. The dorms are all apartment style, so you get the best of living on campus. I truly love this school, and I would recommend it to anyone.

The staff here is very dedicated and tries very hard to serve the students as best they can. If you want to learn, the professors at UTC are more than happy to help any way they can.

    Am enjoying being here

UTC has a great feeling campus... its not too large and every where you go you run into people you know. The on-campus living is the best anywhere, and having an actual apartment as opposed to a tiny dorm helps you feel more like an adult. All the staff are nice, and there are so many activities on campus and around Chattanooga to keep anyone from being bored.

    Bang for the buck

With only the school and lottery scholarships, I go to college, live, and eat for only around $1,600 a semester. Most of my friends and roommates actually get refund checks, so the school is paying them, not the other way around.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early - being an early bird helps a lot when it comes to selecting a room on campus. Also, go to an early orientation - you select your first classes at orientation and they fill up fast during the summer.

Great for these types of students

Pretty much anyone. Living and commuting in the heart of the city can be too urban-ish for some, but its only for a couple years, right? Chattanooga is a very artsy place, but it is also great for all things outdoors and active.

Most departments are staffed with excellent professors who are very knowledgeable about their field and are very exited to educate. There are two departments that are notoriously bad here - Physics is known for terrible teaching and frustrated students, and about half of the Chemistry department. The Biology department is fantastic and I couldn't ask for better professors. Most of the professors on campus are more than happy to spend extra time with the students to make sure that they are learning what they need to learn.

    Am enjoying being here

Though the professors are A quality - the administration from financial aid to records earn an F. Every semester at least 3 people I know have their classes erased. They had me down as two students and my student ID still doesn't work (it's been a year). Every semester I have had to fill out multiple forms with financial aid because of computer glitches or individual's errors on my account throwing out my financial aid. It has always worked out in the end but I have spent countless hours on the phone or in the office of various admins who generally don't know what's going on or how to help. I have asked around campus and this seems to be a systemic issue with this school.

    Bang for the buck

The costs are increasing dramatically but the class numbers are not - meaning you may only want a 4 year degree but you may have to spend 6 years here to get into the classes you need in order to graduate. Many classes are available at half the cost at Chattanooga State, and I know a large number of students who go to both just to save money. The parking cost is way to high to park in a dirt lot and have to ride a bus the rest of the way to campus. The Dorms are extremely expensive when you factor in that you are also required to purchase an overprice meal plan to go with it. UTC will do what they can to get every last penny from the students and offer almost no help in financial aid.

    Tips for prospective students

You don't want to transfer in here or your first semester will be a waste - transfer students register after everyone else and there is almost nothing open at that time.

Register early if you can, and check, double check, triple check all of your accounts at least 3 times a week. Your financial aid account, your class schedules, all of that. At any time it could all get erased and you will have to start working to get it all back.

Make friends with the administrative assistant of your department head. Since the school's administration won't help you - these wonderful ladies can be miracle workers when it comes to reclaiming lost schedules.

I have been to 5 different colleges - you CAN have a good experience here but just know that you have to be willing to manage everything yourself. It's great practice for that management job you will have some day.

Great for these types of students

People who are prepared to fight every step of the way
people who are willing to go the extra mile and manage not only their school work, and school schedule - but will also work as their own HR rep and stay on top of everything.

I love it here. There is so much to do, and you get the education you are after. Even though classes are a little tough to get into, there are so many reasons to go to this school.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't procrastinate on getting classes. If you do, you are more than likely going to get the 8 am or classes you don't even want.

    Academic Rigor

The biggest problem is getting the top of the line classes.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great. South campus, where I live, has great quality. For an on-campus building, it is a great deal.

    Food and Dining

There are many options, but the quality is debatable. On certain days, the food is better.

    What to do for fun

Being in Chattanooga is just fun in general. There are always options.

    Bang for the buck

The only absurd financial factor is the meal plans required for freshman to purchase.

    Campus Safety

There are a few issues around campus, but our campus police seem to take care of them in a timely manner. I had an issue and when I reported it, police were on the scene before I got off the phone. It is a very responsive system.

    Tips for prospective students

Act early, do your homework. Get to know the college well. If you really want to get to know the school, make an appointment to get a tour. You will not be disappointed.

    Academic Rigor

Same academic rigor as UTK but much more affordable. definitely pushes students to do what they can do and more.

    Dorm Life

AMAZING! Dorm rooms look like apartments. I would not mind living there all four years. Definitely worth the money.

    Food and Dining

No one can go hungry at UTC. They have something for everyone.

    What to do for fun

The school has a facility called the ARC. You may rock climb, swim, learn to dance and defend yourself. Honestly I can't name everything they offer.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive no matter which way you slice it. Fortunately, UTC helps students and parents make things realistically affordable.

I rate the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at a high rating. I would say that the university as a whole deserves an eight out of ten. the reason why I say this is because there is many things under construction that make the school less appealing and some of the professors do not grade assignments when they say they will.

    Tips for prospective students

I think that the university you are looking at is a good choice to pursue. There are many new additions to the campus such as the ARC and Aquatic center and also the campus buffet called Crossroads. The university gives you many oppurtunities to get involved and the Chattanooga area gives a potential student multiple outdoor and indoor places to explore.

    What to do for fun

There is the ARC which is an aquatic center and a workout facility is a great place to have fun and stay in shape. The walking bridge and Coolidge Park are ideal places to go to on a nice day. The Aquarium and the Zoo are also exciting places to visit. The location of the university is in Downtown Chattanooga and there are plenty of restaurants and other places to enjoy.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Cardiac Hill is a central location on campus. It is a hill that regardless of how in shape you are, you will get out of breath once you get torwards the top. Most students do what they can to avoid going up this hill.

    Greek Life

Greek life is pretty big on this university! There are many different sororities and fraternities that one can choose from. They are also very active on campus and the community.

UTC is a school that is not too big or not too small. I enjoy everything that this school has to offer to me. The scenery alone is breathtaking.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for housing at a early date so you do not get put on the waiting list. UTC offers so many programs outside of the classroom and gives you a chance to travel for little cost or sometimes free. This campus is small enough to walk everyday, but just in case you do not want to walk, UTC has a bus service.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are the perfect size. The professors take time to see you excel. There are plenty of computer labs open through out the day.

    Dorm Life

These dorms are the best. Including the look of them and the set up. UTC has the best dorms in the state of Tennessee.

    Food and Dining

The food is good on campus and the prices are reasonable. the campus is located downtown so there are some good restaurants that are walking distance. The down side is they do not have 24 hour McDonald's or a Taco Bell near by.

    What to do for fun

Go downtown and experience the night life of Chattanooga. The Aquatic Recreation Center is located on campus and is free with your Mocs Card. This building has a lazy river, spa, slide, and a rock wall.

UTC is absolutely wonderful! I love the college as well as the surrounding city and mountains! Chattanooga is an amazing environment!

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to apply for housing as soon as possible; it is EXTREMELY popular since it is all apartment style! By your parking pass as soon as they are up for grabs, and make sure you buy a reserved lot. They oversell the general parking passes, so the general lots tend to turn into a field for hunting.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not too difficult. You receive the grade for the amount of work you put into the class. Grade A work, you'll probably get an A.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are AMAZING! They aren't even dorms! All housing is apartment style, and there are even options in some buildings to have a room to yourself.

    Food and Dining

All you can eat dining hall (Crossroads), and food court (UC).

    What to do for fun

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Some HUGE traditions are Step Show and the Oak Street Roast.

Great for these types of students

utc is overall a really great school. it's a well maintained campus, and the administration is genuinely nice. there are a lot of opportunities to get involved with different people and clubs/sports on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

pay a little extra for reserved parking, because there isn't enough general parking. get to know your academic advisor because they can save you time and money by helping you get on the right path to graduation. get involved in some kind of campus activity!

    Academic Rigor

utc is a tough school. most of the professors want you to succeed in their classes, but you have to work for the grade you get. there are not many easy a classes, and even the general education classes require a significant amount of studying. utc is known to produce very bright and well educated students ready for the workforce.

    Dorm Life

make sure you know you want to live in a dorm. at utc most of the dorms are relatively close to everything on campus. i would make sure you are ready to live in a dorm before you sign up. the wait-list for dorms is long, and most freshman/sophomores live on campus.

    Food and Dining

the food and dining at utc is great! the cafeteria is large with a large selection of food. there are several different places to eat while on campus, and many other places within a short walking distance from campus.

    What to do for fun

the arc (recreational center) has a ton of stuff to do. they have a a large fitness center, with more workout machines than you can imagine, and classes you can take with friends. there is a pool and rock climbing wall. intramural sports are fun, as well as all the different sporting events and socials going on around campus.

    Bang for the buck

overall, i think utc is well worth the money. i feel like i am learning a lot, even practical stuff i will take with me to the work place. there are numerous ways to get involved, and almost everything is free for students!

    Clubs and Activities

there is a club or activity for everyone! i think there is a club for every kind of major, where they bring in outside supporters for more networking. there are clubs for everyone from people that like to fish, to people who like to play music. it's definitely a diverse university.

    Greek Life

i'm not involved in the greek life, but i have many friends that are. there is a greek organization for everyone! they have fun socials and networking opportunities. they also get involved in the community and help out through community service activities.

    Campus Safety

every college campus has a few minor incidents once in a while, that's a part of life. but utc has a great notification system that alerts you almost right after something has or is occurring. they are typically quick with any response.

    Am learning a lot

What i learned most is not to skip your freshman math class just because its a 2 pm everyday. It will come back to bite you; which in my case it did and im still paying for it now as a senior.

    Am enjoying being here

I love UTC. I am a history major and the history department is awesome. After awhile you feel like your apart of the family and can talk to any of the professors. Most will do whatever they can to help a student. They are there to teach and help you learn; which they are doing a great job.

    Bang for the buck

For the money UTC is one of the better schools out there. It would have costed me double ot triple what i am paying if i attended a larger university.

    Tips for prospective students

Always register early. The earlier you can do something it will help. Because UTC is growing the number of classes and spots are shrinking. So early for anything is always better.

The counselor failed to mention that I already had credits for classes that I am taking. So I am taking classes that I do not need.

The classes here are hard even for a High School honors student and AP-class kid like myself! I mean, some are definitely harder than others... but I came in with 24 hours of AP credit so I am able to take some upper level courses here. It's wonderful to be challenged! I was so worried I wouldn't be. Gen Ed classes are awful... and boring... but they're like that everywhere.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE CHATTANOOGA!!! The city is gorgeous and the campus is in such a great location. Everyone is friendly for the most part and if you just stay out of some of the bad areas, you'll feel completely safe. I love all the campus activities they have here, and there are SO many organizations to get involved with! I'm a part of The House Christian Ministries and it is LIFE-CHANGING!!! I feel such a sense of community with the people I've met here, and have definitely found the place where I belong. :) Chattanooga is my home-away-from-home.

    Bang for the buck

UTC is seriously the best kept secret for state schools. I got a pretty good scholarship so it really isn't that expensive for me and the housing and meals are SO good!

    Tips for prospective students

Buy some Chacos. EVERYONE wears them. You will most likely have to walk up large hills everyday to class and you'll need comfy shoes. Also, make sure you own an umbrella and rain boots for when it rains (maybe just a rain coat if you don't wanna be girly). Figure out what you are interested in Freshman year because life will be easier if you are taking classes you actually enjoy! Oh, and make sure you sign up for housing ASAP because getting the really nice dorms is a very stressful and competitive battle. And get a parking pass ASAP because the Parking Police here are like ninjas... they will ticket you within 10 minutes. I'm not kidding. Haha! :) Make sure you budget your time wisely and study! Oh, and take care of your health.

Great for these types of students

Chattanooga is really good for a diverse amount of people, but you will find a lot of outdoorsy-type people here simply because of the amazing hiking and camping and kayaking (the list goes on and on) that Chattanooga offers. There are also a lot of really fit people here because of the awesome Exercise Science major and the newly completed (fantastic) Aquatic Recreation Center. Sorority and Fraternity people can definitely find one they like here, but there are also plenty of people who aren't into that as well. There is a big Christian population here with a club for practically every denomination, but there are also non-religious people. There are a lot of drinkers and party-ers, but I don't do either of those things and I have a lot of friends who don't either... and no one will look down on you if you don't. Mostly Chatt appeals to very laid-back people who love nature and have a positive outlook on life, but even if that isn't you you will find something to love about UTC!

I am a Criminal Justice major so my department is small. You are more than likely going to have a teacher more than once. The classrooms are usually smaller settings so you can get assistance with your work pretty easily. I am proud to say i have stayed on the dean's list!! As long as you are willing to do the work the professors will help you!

    Am enjoying being here

Chattanooga is a very interesting place, especially if you get off of campus. There is usually something fun and interesting to do on campus, but there is also a great deal of things going on in the community. The weather is schizophrenic sometimes though. There are several on-campus clubs and organizations that you can easily get associated with.

    Bang for the buck

This school was worth the money in the beginning, but with the tuition and enrollment hike it has gotten outrageous. There are several charges that I am always questioning. However, I am getting a great education. The extra fees are the only thing that bother me.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your enrollment, housing, and parking decals early. This campus is becoming more and more popular and housing is limited on campus. So, unless you actually want to commute to school each day and fight to find parking I suggest you get all of that done early. Also, get involved in a few of the organizations on campus. There is something for everyone!

Great for these types of students

It's great for all types of students. One thing I can say is this campus is very diverse and everyone seems to get along really well.

I love UTC's learning environment. Most of the classes I have had are small in size, so each student can get one-on-one help from the professors when they need it.

    Am enjoying being here

UTC is a great campus! It is small enough to not be overwhelming and large enough that there is always something to do. From outdoor movies to the ARC fitness center to the many computer labs on campus, there is always something to do for everyone!

    Bang for the buck

UTC offers quite a bit of financial aid, which is very helpful. Any classes over 12 credit hours per semester are free, so anyone can cut down their college costs if they are willing to work a little harder. Also, there are many jobs on campus that help pay for tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

A few things to remember about UTC: You can print up to 5 pages at a time for free in the UTC Writing Center in Holt Hall, always keep spare change in your car in case you can't find a parking spot and need to park at a meter, parking in most lots is free after 5, online classes are the BEST, and always get to know your advisor really well...you'll need them more than you know. Oh, and make sure you figure out what classes you want LONG before registration time, because the day registration opens is CRAZY hectic.

Great for these types of students

UTC is a good campus for just about any type of student. I've met everyone from Star Wars fiends to lacrosse players to underwater photographers. It is easy to be yourself on campus because everyone is so different.

    Will learn a lot

Learning is the number one thing a college will offer. I believe that many professors are willing to help you learn and are willing to help you if needed. Classes are not too difficult, but that could change if not a lot of studying is done.

    Will enjoy being here

It is a large campus and many people you know from high school that are great friends might end up here. You can find yourself doing many things at UTC and you will be satisfied.

    Bang for the buck

It is a relatively cheap university to get accepted into. Money problems are not much of an issue if you have scholarship money. It is a bit more expensive for out-of-state students.

    Tips for prospective students

Study. Ask professors or other students if you need help on something you are struggling on.

Great for these types of students

In-State, those that feel they have problems on the payment, those who want to stay close to home.
