    Am learning a lot

Classes are hands on, and in my opinion, experience is the best teacher.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone is extremely nice here. Upperclassmen are always willing to help out the younger kids. As I walked around the first few days looking lost, people always asked me if I needed help, I didn't even have to ask anyone. School Spirit is great, people love supporting UD sports.

    Bang for the buck

This school is expensive, but don't let it scare you. You get an extremely high quality education and you will be well prepared for life after graduation. It really is an investment in your future.

    Tips for prospective students

Dive in and get involved. Go to the meetings at the beginning of the year and find out which groups you like. Then you can continue going to the meetings of the few groups you like most. Don't be afraid to go!! There's free pizza at most of them :) Also, MEET YOUR ADVISOR. They are so so helpful and they can pull a lot of strings so get to know them right away.

Great for these types of students

Students who come from small schools and don't want to go to a huge school, students who value community and community service, and students who want to do big things with their lives.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the professors, as they are there for you. Do not skip classes because you are sick because you are paying for those courses. Its like buying a ticket at an amusement park and not utilizing it to enjoy the park by simply throwing the ticket away (but on a much larger scale, one that will impact your life). Enjoy the wonderful community at UD, but don't take advantage of it and make sure you can balance the socializing with your studies.

    Am learning a lot

There are a few classes which are hard to understand, but if you're willing to stick with it, and willing to ask question, teachers do what they can to help. There are a lot of places around campus that can help too. Older students are willing to help teach you as well.

    Am enjoying being here

I love everything about UD. I have lived right down the street from it all of my life and I always wanted to be a Flyer. Now that I have my chance, I wouldn't change anything about it. Everybody is so nice and always willing to help anyway possible. That's the nice thing about being a Marinist College. It doesn't matter if you know the person or not, you will always get a smile or a hi from somebody walking towards you if you make eye contact. I like 6 minutes from campus and I lived on campus my first year, and it's something that everyone should experience once in their life. Getting to know the people there was awesome.

    Bang for the buck

Don't let that $40,000 a year price tag scare you. UD does everything they can to make school affordable. They help you find as much financial aid as possible and they usually give you a pretty good bundle of money.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you try to stay on campus one night. And ask to either stay in Founders or Stewart. Both are older dorms on campus so they don't show you them during the tours. I lived in Founders and it is the oldest dorm, with the smallest rooms and no AC, but I loved every minute of it and wouldn't have had it any other way. Ask the kids questions, not just your tour guide. It's their job to tell you that everything is amazing, but the students will really tell you how it is. They aren't getting paid to tell you things that might not be 100% true. Also, meet with somebody who is in the program that you're interested in.

Great for these types of students

UD is a very welcoming community in itself. In the door buildings, you will NEVER walk down a hall and not be able to find one door open. It's def. a people person type of school. There are organizations for every student. There is every type of intramural sport that you can think of. As nerdy as it sounds, the library is a great place to meet people. Campus is small enough that you will almost always see a familiar face while walking around, but it's also big enough that you see a new face everyday. The classes aren't huge so most of the teachers will know everyone by name. It's just a great place all around!

    Am learning a lot

The professors here are very helpful and most of them just like to have a good time teaching the class. I find it best if you get to know your professors so that they can learn your name and if you are having trouble in the class they will do what they can to help you. No professor wants to fail a student if they are willing to try.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the atmosphere here! It's basically in the middle of the city but you would never know it because of all the wonderful landscaping that just gives it more of a at home feeling even though the main street of restaurants (brown street) is really just a short walk from the dorms! I also love how everyone here cares about other students and it just feels like there is a great sense of community and that you could walk up to anyone on campus and they would be willing to help you out. There are so many activities and things to do on campus that I don't know why you would ever want to leave. If you decide to come to the University of Dayton I would definitely recommend joining any organizations that seem interesting to you on Up the Orgs day and to do an inter mural sport if you feel like you have time for it because it is definitely a lot of fun really getting into a game with the other people from your floor. Overall UD is a very welcoming and fun place to live where it is basically impossible not to get along with everyone around you and to make some amazing friends in the process.

    Bang for the buck

I know a lot of you may be looking at the cost of attending the University of Dayton and feeling as if you may not be able to afford it or that it really might not be worth your money. But at UD they offer a tiered scholarship system that allows anyone that attends the University of Dayton to receive at least some scholarship money. And after receiving your scholarship most people don't end up paying near as much as the sticker price of tuition. Even though you might end up spending a little bit more than if you were to attend a Community College or a State College I feel that, from experience, UD has a lot more bang for your buck. I've attended both a state and a community college and I want to let you know that UD has a lot more to offer in the way of activities, organizations, and a much greater sense of community than any other college that I have ever attended.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on going to the University of Dayton I recommend getting your application in early so that you can get back a response quickly and know that you have been accepted early and what kind of financial aid you will be receiving if you do decide to attend.

Great for these types of students

The University of Dayton is a great school for students who don't want to get lost in the crowd of a large school and would like to have a personal connection with their professors and classmates. It's also a great school for students who would like to live in an atmosphere where community is a large part of the UD experience and you can turn to just about anyone if you're having trouble with any of your subjects or you just want to hang out.

    Am learning a lot

You have a great selection of courses and teachers. Although experiences may differ depending on the instructor, the courses you enroll in will be sure to keep your attention if you actually are interested in the subject matter.

    Am enjoying being here

This place is simply amazing. I love the community and the campus is wonderful. The classic televised scene of older students harassing the younger students is not an issue here. The university has established a great sense of family among its students and faculty. Nobody hesitates to help one another.

    Bang for the buck

At $40,000 a year, the university is anything but cheap. On the other hand, what you get out of it will reflect what you put in. Opportunities are presented to you everywhere you go. For the money you're paying you will be given plenty of chances to excel and separate yourself from students at other institutions.

    Tips for prospective students

Students interested in anything outside of going to basic classes, which is a great majority, should not miss Up the Orgs. This event introduces new and old students to the many organizations that are on campus. Each offer different agendas and cater to a different crowd that should help everyone looking for something feel welcome. Do not skip class. Contrary to popular belief, it is not cool. It is a waste of your or your parents money. Besides, you are here to get an education, not sleep. There's plenty of time for sleep between and after classes.

Great for these types of students

This university is fit to fulfill the desires of any diverse group of students. The school is also not to small nor to large so you aren't treated as another statistic for the catalog. I am a business major who played high school basketball and now play intramural in a competitive league. Our team actually qualified for a tournament in North Carolina. I also played in the band. Now I am a member of the University Jazz Band as well as the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Brass Quartet. The school has such a variety of majors, minors, and extra-curricular activities that it is capable of being home to many students regardless of their interests.

Even in the classes that I had to take to fill basic requirements, my eyes were opened to the world around me. Because of these classes, I feel like my education has grown exponentially.

    Am enjoying being here

I have made so many friends at UD! Everyone I meet is friendly and cares about others.

    Bang for the buck

UD is a private school, so you have to be ready to dish out some money to go here. However, you will receive a quality education and will make memories that will last you a lifetime.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit. Come to Dayton and see what campus is like on an everyday basis and learn about us. We would love to have you!

Great for these types of students

I love UD because I wanted a smaller school where the professors would know me by name. Also good for students who want to be near an urban area, but not necessarily living downtown. And most importantly, UD has a sense of community that you will find nowhere else.

    Bang for the buck

It is a wonderful university and it shows with how successful all of the graduated students are.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard, get involved, and go to all the games.

Great for these types of students

This university is a great school for all different types of students. I met many different people at school, which is great. But if you are good at basketball, we are known for our basketball team.

UD is a small, Marianist university. It has great people and an amazing sense of community. You'll love UD!

    Tips for prospective students

Tour the campus if you can. It has a beautiful, old-time feel. Seeing the campus sealed the deal for me!

    Academic Rigor

Classes are difficult, but most of your classes will have 30 students or less so you can always go ask for help from the professor. Every professor I've had makes an effort to know the students' names and are always willing to help students.

    Dorm Life

Try to get into Marycrest your freshman year. They have an amazing dining hall, and the rooms are huge!

    Food and Dining

There are three different dining halls, which all offer a pretty wide range of foods. The new dining hall in VWK has a Mongolian grill and a Mexican burrito bar (like Chipotle!)

    What to do for fun

The student neighborhood right next to campus always has a barbecue or party going on. Brown Street has a wide variety of restaurants and an ice cream bar!

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is pretty high because it's a private school, but I had half of my tuition paid from the generous scholarships provided by UD. Finish your FAFSA early - you'll get extra scholarships for that too!

Great for these types of students

I went to a small high school (less than 300 students) so I liked UD because it didn't feel overwhelmingly large. If you like seeing familiar faces and having teachers know you by name, you'll love UD.

    Clubs and Activities

Every fall there is a fair called Up the Orgs, where representatives from every club on campus come out and give information about their organization. It gives students an amazing opportunity to get involved!

    Campus Safety

The area surrounding campus can get a little sketchy at night - but if you stay on campus you'll feel completely safe. The campus is well-lit, and there is a service called Mom's Limos that picks students up wherever they are on campus and drives them back to their dorm or apartment.

dayton is the most friendly and welcoming atmosphere i've ever been a part of. seniors talk to freshman. and everyone is kind. i was easy to make the transition from home to away in this environment.

    Tips for prospective students

don't worry about being bullied or being called freshman! everyone is super nice. be confident and have fun! also go to class. it's important. try to schedule early so you don't get stuck with an 8am class.

    Academic Rigor

depending on your major, classes can be difficult, but teachers are more than happy to help you in any way they can. just reach out and ask!

    Dorm Life

i know that the people i met this year will be my friends for life. i have never gotten closer with people this quickly than this year. the dorms are also really nice and comfortable!

    Food and Dining

good food, but not always a startling variety. despite this, great pasta bar and awesome pizza! there are also plenty of vegetarian options like a daily salad bar!

    What to do for fun

i cannot explain the ghetto ...the most unique and interesting place i've ever been after hours. there is always a cookout or rally going on in the student neighborhood, centered around art street that has a delicious cafe and an outdoors amphitheater!

    Bang for the buck

it's a private school and very pricey, but i can't imagine myself anywhere else! i love it here and i think it is worth all the money it costs.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

see what to do for fun for info on the ghetto. there's also the dark side, which is a lot like the ghetto, but just has fewer lights. also dayton is on the edge of brown street, which is just a long street with tons of popular and family-run restaurants and cute shops, just in case you get bored of cafeteria food!

Great for these types of students

great for academic students and outgoing people. but also the opposite of both of those categories because the atmosphere can bring you out of your shell. also a good financial option because of the great financial aid department and the tons of scholarships they offer!

    Clubs and Activities

every year they have a day called up the orgs where all the organizations at dayton crowd onto one of the grassy areas.... there must be over 200!!

    Greek Life

greek life is definitely here at ud, if you don't choose to join it, it's not that big of a deal. there is no hazing and you still have time to have a life outside of your sorority or fraternity!

    Campus Safety

i have never felt in anyway scared of anything on campus or even in the immediate area. even late at night most places are well-lit and there are many ways to get help quickly if you should need it.

ud is the perfect school for a home away from home! academically, they have tons of programs and more classes than you can imagine with amazing professors. student life is so fun every night whether staying in with your floor mates, going out to the student neighborhood, or heading to brown street for the evening!

    Tips for prospective students

you have to do your work. most professors are understanding of sick days and emergencies, but you can't slack off all the time or your grades will definitely reflect that. if you work hard and do the work early it gets done a lot easier than if you wait until the last minute!

    Academic Rigor

i'll admit, some classes are difficult. there's lots of homework every night, but it's also not hard to succeed if you put in the effort. there are plenty of opportunities in every class for extra help!

    Dorm Life

i absolutely love my residence hall. although it's annoying to have to wear shoes to the shower, and take a basket with all your hygiene products, you get used to it quick! everyone is considerate and it's just like living with a bunch of friends!

    Food and Dining

the dining halls are amazing. the workers are the sweetest people too! kennedy union has the best breakfast potatoes and the all new vwk has chipotle style and mongolian grill, not to mention a bakery! the food off campus is also wonderful, and many restaurants accept our flyer express cards for payment.

    What to do for fun

heading to the ghetto (student neighborhood) is always a good time, but there's also lots of other places within walking distance. tim's is a local bar that is sort of a dance club on thursday nights. all of the upperclassmen are welcoming and everyone just invites everyone to do stuff!

    Bang for the buck

i won't lie, ud is expensive. it's a private school and has many benefits that you're paying for. but in four years when i have to start paying off my students loans i'll look back and know that it was worth every penny!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the ghetto-- our student neighborhood is unlike any other. tons of houses have parties every night and love freshmen to be there! people who have parties are never exclusive and never make anyone pay for coming or having any of their 'party supplies.' the other extremely special tradition we have is christmas on campus. every year on the day of feast of the immaculate conception the campus sets up all these different christmas activities, seriously hundreds of different things, from reindeer to gingerbread houses to train rides. you sign up to have a kid (from the local elementary schools) and you get them a small christmas gift. then you get to walk them around all night and spend time with them!

Great for these types of students

people who love a family community feeling, without feeling like every single person knows every single thing about you. ud is so welcoming to everyone and i've truly met the best people here!

    Clubs and Activities

there are tons of things to get involved in here. intramural sports are really popular and we even have club sports if you're looking for something more serious but not college varsity level. there's also a million service clubs and even just opportunities to get involved without having to join a group!

    Greek Life

sororities and frats aren't huge here at dayton. we have them and there are a few sorority/fraternity houses but for the most part they're not that serious. rush is in the late winter/spring and i have many friends who are in them! they're not totally exclusive or seclusive so you can still be involved in tons of other activities!

    Campus Safety

the campus is always lit up, i never have felt unsafe. although there are some bad areas outside of campus, i'm never worried about my safety. i almost always go out at night with other people and don't go to unfamiliar places if i'm not comfortable.

Classes are challenging, requiring you to work well individually as well as in a group setting. Professors in all departments put a heavy focus on integrating all the parts of your education and experience here at UD to educate the whole person. For instance, as a business student, I have classes in many different aspects of business. But I am encouraged to think critically in an effort to integrate them, as every successful company must have employees who can see the whole picture.

    Am enjoying being here

I have never been happier with where I am or with who I am. I have found UD to be the most welcoming college, full of friendly people who are always willing to help. We are ranked, after all, as the 7th happiest college in the US! The emphasis on community is what makes UD unique, and by being immersed in this community I have learned to be more open-minded, more supportive, a better listener, and a better friend.

    Bang for the buck

Like any other private university, UD comes with a sizable price tag. However, the quality of educational opportunities outweighs the costs. I have found UD to be incredibly helpful with financial aid and scholarships. There are also many jobs to be found on campus, especially with Flyer Enterprises, which is a completely student-run corporation on campus. They run coffee shops, a cafe, and a spirit wear store, among other ventures. Not only are they a great place to work, but a great opportunity for business students to learn the daily operations of managing a company.

    Tips for prospective students

Finish your application early! The sooner you know, the sooner you can figure out your financial aid. Also, once you're here, don't be afraid to jump in and get involved right away. There are countless student clubs and organizations, as well as sports teams, dance and choral ensembles, and Greek life. The biggest tip I can give to any student is to keep and open and adventurous outlook. People you may judge harshly at first usually turn out to be a pleasant surprise, and an experience that may seem too out-of-the-ordinary for you usually ends up being one of the most treasured of your college days. In my opinion, it is better to regret doing something than to regret NOT doing it. So just get out there!

Great for these types of students

UD draws all kinds of students, but is especially great for people who want to be involved in serving the community. From Habitat for Humanity to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life to countless others, community service is a major part of life on campus. As far as academic opportunities are concerned, UD has exceptional programs in education, engineering, and entrepreneurship (the entrepreneurship program is ranked 4th in the nation). In these fields especially, there is a focus on the kind of hands-on learning which provides the best career training.

    Food and Dining

there is a lot of variety in the food and it is hard to get tired of it. most of it tastes great.

The University of Dayton (UD) is by far the best opportunity and experience I have had so far in life. UD offers something for everyone; the community is unlike any other campus, the professors are very friendly and very personal. Overall, I would recommend UD to everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know the professors! They are super friendly and very personable. They love interacting with the students...that's why they are at UD! Also, get to know your floor and make new friends! Have a fun social life and take advantage of the great UD community, but don't socialize to much...make sure there is a balance!

What can't you do on campus for fun?! There is something here for everyone!

The majority of professors are very knowledgeable and honestly care about your progress in the respective field. Most that I have encountered will take time out of their days to ensure that you understand the material and are actually coming away from the class wtih more than a grade--with real life, practical knoweldge that can and presumably will be used. I feel like I have grown so much both as a person and in my knowledge about the world in my time here so far, and I cannot wait to continue this journey.

    Am enjoying being here

I simply cannot imagine myself being at any other school. To say that I love it is an enormous understatement. The community is exceptional and you are provided with endless opportunities for social interaction. In general, I have found that UD students are very 'work hard, play hard'. The students will generally work very hard during the week and during the weekends will have the times of their life. I love it this way. It is very possible at UD to still get good grades (I had a 3.78 last semester) and still have an awesome time, and I love that.

    Bang for the buck

UD is rather expensive, but I would say that it is mostly worth it. The campus is absolutely gorgeous and the opportunities provided are priceless. The academics are stellar, at least in the departments which I have personally experienced most deeply (Art, English, Psychology.).

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class. You're paying enough to where if you aren't going, it is simply a giant waste of your money.
UD has a ton of clubs, try as many as you can. I wish I had gotten a little bit more involved with all of these opportunities my freshman and sophomore year (I'm a junior.)
Visit this campus! Once I did, I completely fell in love with it and couldn't even consider anywhere else. Many people with whom I have spoken have expressed similar feelings, maybe you will too.

Great for these types of students

UD is so diverse that there is honestly a place for everyone. Whether you are athletic or artistically inclined or love theater or community service or campus ministry or absolutely none of those things at all, you will probably find something about this school to love.

I am in the chemical engineering program at UD. It is a great size program which I enjoy. The professors know their students and that relationship can only help the learning process. I am only starting to get into my upper level classes so I did not give a full five stars. Perhaps in the future of my college career, I would award the full rating.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone always talks of the 'community' that exists here. I have to be cliche and agree with that statement. It is true. I value that sense of belonging and companionship that exists at UD. I enjoy everything I am a part of whether it be intramurals, school, or work.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive. There is not getting by that fact especially a school such as UD. Fortunately, UD has generous academic scholarships which has helped lessen the burden. I feel compensated for what I am paying for my education. However, it would be obviously best if it were free!

    Tips for prospective students

This really applies to any incoming college student: Make sure you make the transition from living at home to living at college. No one is watching over your shoulder anymore. It is up to you to make the choices that will shape you into the person you want to be portrayed as being. Also, make sure you take advantage of all that college has to offer. These years are so great- do NOT waste them!

Great for these types of students

Good, hard working students looking for that medium size school. UD is perfect for that. The school really has a niche for any kind of individual whether it be intellectual, theatrical, or fitness oriented and more. I don't think UD has a 'type' of student that goes to it.

I have learned a lot while attending the University of Dayton. I was able to explore other classes not within my major which broadened my knowledge. Classes such as History of Aviation, this was a class all about how aviation came about and where it is headed. The city of Dayton is a great place to learn about aviation because it was the birth place of the Wright Brothers inventions, it also holds the Air Force museum which is full of many planes and evolution of planes.
You will also get a great one on one connection with the professor because the class sizes are small and every one of my professors knew my name and knew how to help me.

    Am enjoying being here

UD is like its own little bubble you enjoy the environment so much that you don't really realize what is going on outside of the bubble. In the fall time the campus is absolutely beautiful with all the colorful trees, and the campus grounds crew works really hard to make sure that the grass and plants are well kept.
When you go to Dayton you will hear the word community a lot but what you realize when you are there is that University of Dayton is a very tiny community full of friendly and welcoming people. Fellow Flyers are quick to spot each other and I cannot even count on all my toes and fingers how many alumns I have ran into over the years, and they come up and share their experiences that they had while at school. But over all you will feel right at home when you step onto campus.

    Bang for the buck

All though the school is quite pricey you will get a lot out of your experience at the school. You will never forget the experience that you had while at Dayton. The classes are top notch in the nation and people you meet give it an extra bonus. There is a great academic service team that will help you out whenever you need some tips to study, tutoring, or help writing that paper you have writers block on.
The buildings are all either newly renovated or are being currently renovated to help enhance your experience at Dayton.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to make a bucket list for yourself while at school. There are several things that you must do while at school in UD. 1) Go visit echo point which is in front of the chapel 2) go inside the chapel and view the beauty inside 3) visit Art Street there is always something going on there 4) walk around in the Woodland Cemetery, I know that sounds creepy but it is actually very pretty and a nice walk on a great day 5) attend a Basketball game, you will experience the power of the student section when you get into all the chanting and cheers you will leave singing the Dayton theme song..... These are just a few things that I suggest there is sooooooooooo much more you can do and find out so go explore and over all enjoy your years at Dayton because it flies by fast!

Great for these types of students

This school is good for people who want to be challenged academically because I have never been challenged as much as I have being here.

    Will learn a lot

I can already tell that the campus is full of culture, plus it has a high academic rating.

    Will enjoy being here

I have visited multiple times, and the atmosphere has always been vibrant, cheerful, and helpful. There are a lot of activities to get involved in.

    Bang for the buck

UD gives out financial aid, and even though it is still expensive, it is worth it to get the growth Dayton gives in all areas of life.

    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved and stay positive.

    Am learning a lot

The learning experience at the University of Dayton is more than just the classes you take. I have learned so much outside of classes as well. Becoming an adult is a big step, and UD has so many opportunities to learn and grow. Inside the classroom, the learning experience is great as well. The teachers are helpful and the classwor, although challenging, can be very awarding as well.

    Am enjoying being here

UD is an awesome place to live. Most of the dorms are nice, but even the worst one (which I'm living in) is still great. The people at UD are great as well. One tiny thing I have noticed since I started living here is that everyone holds the doors open for the next person. It is a tiny thing but it shows how kind everyone here really is..

    Bang for the buck

I won't lie; UD is very expensive. However, it is quite possible to pay for it. I have to pay for it by myself, with my own loans and scholarships, and I am managing just fine. You definitely get the bang for your buck though. The classes and faculty are amazing and are the education and experience you will have here is definitely worth the cash.

    Tips for prospective students

Obviously, you need to do good in school and have decent grades. You definitely need to look for scholarships though. It may seem like it isn't important, and I understand how you feel. I didn't take it seriously enough, and I'm probably going to be in debt for at least ten years after I graduate. So definitely get some outside financial sources to help you out.

Great for these types of students

If you live in Ohio and you don't know that UD is a good engineering school, I would be very surprised. UD's programs for engineering students are outstanding, and are definitely some of the best programs around.

Dayton tends to be really strict on highschool credit transfering to college, so you might get stuck taking classes you already took and it can get boring. The classes are small though and the professors are great, they really care about the students.

    Am enjoying being here

Dayton has a lot to do. There are clubs for everything and everyone. I've only been here a year and joined three clubs, played five intramurals (which are huge here btw) and participated in Christmas on Campus(look it up, it really is as awesome as they say) and there are still a lot of things I want to join. The only problem is that Dayton is known as a party school and it has that reputation for a reason. If you don't want to drink, it is difficult to find things to do on the weekend. There is Club Six and CAB, but their activities don't usually go very late or have many people at them and so often the options are stay in or go to the Ghetto.

    Bang for the buck

Dayton is expensive and they tend to fine for a lot (especially parking). It's still a great school though.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved and don't just hang out in your room. Also, join intramurals its seriously amazing.

Great for these types of students

People who like to party a lot, but know how to balance it with school work. The average Dayton kid is really relaxed, expect to get weird looks if you wear anything but sweats to class in the fall. Almost everyone here is really friendly too. Most tend to be from upper class areas in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, but exceptions. There's a lot of international students and out of staters.

The classes are definitely challenging. UD is a place where students actually want to learn. Although it has its fair share of out of school activities students thrive on the knowledge they learn in their classes. I often hear on campus discussions about classroom topics that have actually intrigued students to educate their friends who were not in that particular class. The teachers try and keep the classes interesting and get to know the students on a personal level. Many of my professors share stories about their families and are genuinely interested in how you are doing.

    Am enjoying being here

I have to say I was skeptical about going to school in Ohio because of the typical preconceived notions about the Midwest, but UD has shattered that prejudice for me. The campus has so much to offer! It is absolutely beautiful all year round. Especially around Christmas time during Christmas on Campus. The student activities board puts in great effort to give students something fun and substance free every day of the weekend. Art Street offers free art classes every month, and the student neighborhood is unlike anything I have ever experienced at any other school. I would say UDs campus is unique in that we are our own community. Every student is inspired by the Marianist traditions taught in class and truly cares about others. I find everyone is curious and offers a friendly smile to passersby. I love UD and am confident I chose the right school for me. Go flyers!

    Bang for the buck

UD is a private school so its tuition is pretty steep. However, I found that their financial aid department is more than willing to help you finance your education and they offer almost every student a scholarship based on your high school grades. UD's alumni are extremely loyal and their donations also offer many scholarships.

    Tips for prospective students

For any student thinking about attending UD, I say go for it! I highly doubt you will regret it. Their campus housing is unbelievable and the campus is just amazing. Its really safe and there is something to do for everyone. Be open minded when you enter campus and the best advice I could give is to remember that everyone is in the same boat as you. Everyone wants a fresh start at college and wants to make new friends. Everyone is a little shy and apprehensive about the future. Be bold and uninhibited and chances are you will come out with great friends. And if you make a fool of yourself you probably wont have to see them that often so who cares!

Great for these types of students

If you are friendly and open minded. UD is all about giving back so students who really care about the community will fit right in here. Everyone smiles at everyone and holds the door open for you, asks you if you need help if you look lost, etc... So if that sounds like you, UD is the perfect place!

The University of Dayton is a school where they put your mind to the limit! Every class challenges you to excel and do your best. If you're not the type to study, then you honestly should look somewhere else.

    Am enjoying being here

Even though the classes can be hard, it is also really easy to get to know people around here. Overall, everyone is friendly and even though people sometimes can get into disagreements, people still end up finding their posse.

    Bang for the buck

I'm not going to lie: this school can get expensive. UD has been very good to me in terms of financial aid, but the loans are piling up, so I know I am going to have to pay them back after graduation. They also raise the tuition price per year. Considering the state of the school, it's worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

I had a 3.94 GPA in high school and I also hard it's easy to get into. But I also hard that they are raising their standards in terms of students. So, I guess what I can say is: give it your all in high school. The University has become increasingly popular over the years, so strive for a high GPA and test score when it comes time to determine if you'll make the grade.

Great for these types of students

One of the words that is talked about here routinely is community-so if you like helping people with service, love sports (particularly basketball) and love to party, (and also study, of course) then UD is for you! Also, we are a Catholic school, so if you're Catholic, you'll have even more fun.

There is always so much to learn about UD, whether its inside or outside the classroom. I have grown so much academically during my first semester. College is about requiring new, useful study skills and showing improvement. The University of Dayton has really aided me with this by providing a variety of on-campus resources. I have also learned a lot about myself. I am more familiar with what the world has to offer socially.

    Am enjoying being here

I guarantee this school to anyone who enjoys life in general. It is almost impossible not to make friends at this school. As a whole, everyone is friendly. Also, the school is such a great size, I always feel like I am meeting new people. There are also many on-campus activities and there is always something going on whether it's a party or class seminar.

    Bang for the buck

There is no question that the University of Dayton is an expensive school but the good thing about this school is the amount of financial aid that it gives out. I would not have been able to attend this school if it wasn't for this and I truly believe that choosing this school was worth every penny.

    Tips for prospective students

I advice any upcoming students to try to balance fun/freedom with academics. I believe that college is all about experience. No one wants to remember their days in college as a large study session but at the same time, the number one reason that people attend college is for the education the they receive from it.

Great for these types of students

UD is great for students who want to be successful in life. This university provides many opportunities for students. This school is also a good place for students who want to enjoy their college days and build life long memories and friendships.

The University of Dayton (UD) is the perfect size for great learning opportunities. The college is small enough that many of the classes have a class size of 20-30 students. The professors take the time to get to know you and will go out of their way to help a student succeed. UD is also large enough to provide numerous learning opportunities. Even first year engineering students have a chance at research projects and can begin internships and co-ops starting second semester freshman year. The university provides many different ways to get help as well. They offer anything from personal tutors to office hours to walk-in tutoring sessions.

    Am enjoying being here

My decision to attend UD was the best decision I have every made. I hear stories from my high school friends about their college experience and they seem to be enjoying their school less than me. Everyone at UD is friendly and happy. Strangers are more than willing to help with anything they can and students will hold doors open for others. I made quick friends with the people on my floor and my teammates on the Ultimate Frisbee team. The school makes it easy to be involved in a variety of things.

    Bang for the buck

Since the University of Dayton is a private university, the cost is more than state colleges. However, they offer plenty of financial aid and awards that the price is reasonable. With scholarships and financial aid, the University of Dayton cost the same as the in state schools. The price is even better for Ohio residents. The university provides a great education, has excellent food, and newly renovated dorms, classrooms, and gym. All in all, this school is worth the price.

    Tips for prospective students

The best piece of advice I have for incoming students is to become involved. There is something there for everyone, whether it be sports, academics, or social clubs. The students at UD are friendly and act as a community.

Great for these types of students

To students from the east coast, UD is perfect for people who want to remain near home, but live in an environment that encourages independent living. A person does not need to be Catholic to enjoy the University of Dayton. However, students there do need to have a desire to give back to the community and help those in need.

You don't just learn about math, physics or the normal subjects; you learn to live life. I have been a student at UD for 2 months now and I feel like I'm learning some much, both inside and outside the classroom.

Everyday is a blast! Picture trying foods for different countries everyday. Then walking for 5 minutes into Brown Street, it basically has any store or restaurantyou would want to go to. People here are so welcoming and no matter where you are there's always someone opening the door for you or just giving you a peppy HI!. Late night study sessions have never been so fun! Everyday is an experience and anew adventures awaits around each corner.

    Bang for the buck

College may seem expensive, but it is worth the buck. The experiences you have are invaluable!

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to have the time of your life. No matter how intimidating your teacher is, he or she is totally approachable. Don't pay attention to college myths. Teachers will love you and they are not as serious as they seem. Imagine a teacher saying that he will not give you homework because he's going to see football on Sunday, yeah, that happens! Also, be ready to make the best group of friends you will ever have; you will meet people daily!!

Great for these types of students

If you like new experiences, or to just have fun, then Dayton is for you. There is always something to do, you will not be able to do everything, trust me. There's something for everybody and anybody. GO UD!!!

A private college that does not emphasize or push religion on their students. An academically challenging college that provides a lot of entertainment to its students. Worth every dime.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not get in over your head with certain majors and do not be afraid to switch your major. That is better than digging a hole for yourself with a low gpa.

    Academic Rigor

The University of Dayton is only as academically challenging as your major is. Overall, academics is an important aspect of this university and puts its students at a high standard.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very nice and provide excellent dining facilities. The residents assistants are often very power hungry and strict on the residents though.

    Food and Dining

A wide variety of dining facilities are within walking distance and do not ever get boring.

    What to do for fun

The University of Dayton has a student neighborhood called the Ghetto that welcomes all students regardless of who you are.

    Bang for the buck

Personally, I think that the University of Dayton is very overpriced at nearly 46,000 a year.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The ghetto is a hot spot for all students Thursday-Saturday and provides everybody with a place to go.

Great for these types of students

Intelligent students who like to have a good time.

    Greek Life

Fraternities provide people with a group of friends, but the Greek life isn't very recognized on campus.

It is a tight knit community where everyone is welcoming and accepting. It's big enough that you don't know everyone, yet small enough that you see many familiar faces. It's a beautiful campus with a lot to offer academically and socially.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour-- it definitely swayed my vote. We're big on school spirit and it's easy to find things that you love to participate in. Don't rule out the school just because it's smaller and not many people have heard of it. It's honestly beautiful and I couldn't be happier with my choice.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on your major and how many credits you take. I'm a Pre-Med major so it's challenging for me but undecided majors only take gen-eds so it's not as bad.

    Dorm Life

None of the dorms are unbearable. I personally lived in the dorm with the smallest rooms and survived just fine. None of the dorms are too far away from classes and they all have air-conditioning/heating.

    Food and Dining

It's dorm food. Yeah, there's a lack in variety and the food gets old but if you eat at the different cafeterias then you'll find some variation. I would suggest getting the 'Debit' meal plan though, NOT the 'Meal' meal plan.

    What to do for fun

There's always stuff to do. If you don't like to go out and party, an organization named CAB (campus activities board) brings in comedians or buses people downtown to shop. Also, there's a bowling alley on campus.

    Bang for the buck

It's a more expensive school because it's private but it's totally worth it. I just finished my freshman year and can't even imagine leaving UD. It's worth every penny.

    What to do for fun

i would describe the university of dayton as a fantastic school that is full of kind loving students and faculty. there is always something for people to do, be it sports, clubs, academics, or simply just hanging out with friends. the campus and surrounding community is very small and tight knit so you feel like an actual being, instead of a number in the crowd.

    Tips for prospective students

i would most definitely advise all prospective students to come and visit the campus before attending. being able to see the life of the campus in person is key to any college one might look to attend. i would also suggest that everyone obtain as much information as possible before attending. knowing what one might be getting into before hand leaves less surprises for down the road. lastly, i would implement that while ud is an amazing school, tuition is flying through the roof so if one is not 100% sure on what they would like to major in, i would recommend they stick to a community college until a final decision is made.

    Academic Rigor

hands down, i would say that the university of dayton is the most challenging school, academically, i have attended so far. in no sense would i say that the expectations are absurd, i would just say that comparatively speaking, the requirements for every class have been kicked up a notch.

    Dorm Life

the university of dayton is an older school so some of the dorms are not the best of the best but they are kept up pretty well; however, out of all the dorms i have been to in my life, i would undoubtedly say that ud has the nicest. all of the dorms have live in staff that clean the building regularly. there are also many options for living situations. one can choose to be alone or share a room with up to three other people.

    Food and Dining

there are literally food vendors all across campus that have a wide variety of selections. the two main dining areas on campus also have many things to offer that all taste pretty good. there is also brown st. that borders campus and has anything and everything a student could ask for.

    What to do for fun

the list of activities to do seems endless. there is a club for almost everything and one can also create their own if they can't find one they are interested in. sports/outdoor activities are also a huge pass time here. intramural sports are usually pretty fun as well because they can be extremely laid back and less competitive. lastly, there are always friends to hangout with. go for a stroll around campus, head to the local movie theater, grab some ice cream at ben & jerry's or colstone creamery, and all in all, just have a good relaxing time.

    Bang for the buck

i personally feel that there are many different positions to take on this subject because there are personal aspects that draw to a personal conclusion. the fact that it is a private school heavily increases the tuition; however, i personally feel that the level of education has also increased quite significantly compared to that of public colleges. i would also like to reiterate my point that ud is a great school for those who know what they want their major to be.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

to my knowledge, there really aren't that many interesting stories to be told. the main stories people are aware of are based around the student housing. back in the day, hundreds of homes were built to house people that were working for manufacturing companies in and around dayton. many years after, ud bought a large chunk of them to offer as student housing. there are two sections called the dark side and the ghetto. both of them have pretty interesting stories as to how they got their names and i would most definitely advise that everyone ask their tour guide about it.

Great for these types of students

ud is a great campus for all types of students. there are people from all backgrounds that attend school here. if i had to choose the ideal person for ud, it would have to be a social oriented individual. because of the tight knit community, it is very easy to see how small this world actually is. it seems that everyone knows everyone in some odd way or another.

    Clubs and Activities

hinted at this already with the, 'what to do for fun' topic, so i guess i would just restate that there is always something to do and no one is ever left out.

    Greek Life

the greek life does play a prominent roll in many aspects of ud; however, it is not something in which everyone participates. and in no sense would i say that people are shunned or outlawed because of their personal choice one way or the other.

    Campus Safety

ud is an extremely safe campus with many different on-campus features to keep it that way. ex. residence halls require student id for entry, there are public safety officers that arrive almost immediately if they are called, fire alarm is tripped, or a blue-light safety pole is used. (blue-light safety poles are poles that have been placed around campus and are lit up 24/7. they have a button that can be pressed when help is needed.)

as a freshman, i live in marianist hall, which houses 2/3 sophomores & only 1/3 of us freshman. the dorms are spacious and beautiful, but it is a bit quieter than some of the other freshman-only dorms. i have friends in each of the three other freshman dorms and the general consensus is there are pros and cons to each, but everyone loves where they live!

    Food and Dining

ud recently renovated virginia kettering dining hall on campus, with a sushi bar, soup & salad station and stir fry area. it is beautiful, and in addition there are multiple other dining hall options on campus. the variety is good, but my only problem is being a vegetarian on a gluten-free diet. the university does not always make it very easy or have very many options for me.

    Bang for the buck

despite the high cost of attending ud, they help offset the cost with scholarship rewards for good grades, which is extremely helpful. after going here for a semester, i absolutely think dayton is worth the expense, from the incredible staff to beautiful campus to endless opportunities, dayton does it best.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

christmas on campus is a unique ud tradition when the whole campus shuts down for a day in december and kids from inner city dayton are bused in. you can 'adopt' a child for the evening and take them around the beautifully lit-up campus, with activities from carnival games to a live reindeer-petting exhibit. it is a truly unique way to give back and get in the christmas spirit.

    Clubs and Activities

there is a wide array of extra curricular activities at ud. from our team spirit club the red scare to intramural sports to countless volunteer opportunities, the options are endless. i'm on dance team and part of kickboxing club, and i love it!

    Greek Life

greek life at ud is not a make-or-break deal to meet people and have friends. if you pledge, its great. if you don't, its great too. also, there aren't insane rivalries between any of our sororities or frats, everyone is very chill.

    Campus Safety

ud has a car service that you can call most times of the day or night to pick you up and drop you off where you need to go. campus safety does a great job of notifying students of any potential dangers and keeping us safe. i have never felt unsafe while on campus.
