Pulling an all nighter never seemed so exciting before. One computer science class, and I felt like I could tackle and computer programming question out there. Most classes are similar in the amount of learning that goes on. Everywhere you turn, you will see students seeking help or offering help. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

    Am enjoying being here

Great social lifestyle. All the dorms are close to classes and people are generally welcoming and friendly. Partying is big here, so pick your social scene carefully.

    Bang for the buck

Ranked on Princeton Review's 'Worst financial Aid' list, Delaware definitely isn't a place for someone looking for a full ride. With an out-of-state price tag of about 32,000 a year, one might find it hard to afford without some sort of financial aid or scholarships.

    Tips for prospective students

The University of Delaware is a very eye-catching institution. It boasts a beautiful campus that will hook you the minute you lay eyes on the main green. However, don't let it get to your head too much. Consider the majors you're interested in, as well as the social atmosphere of the school. It is a smaller state school than other Division I schools, but nonetheless just as competitive. Engineering, Business, and Chemistry are notoriously competitive majors here. Be ready to be up late for papers, studying, and socializing. You're best friends are your neighbors. The dorms contain a wealth of information helpful for surviving college.

If you ever struggle in a class, do not be afraid to schedule an appointment with an advisor or professor. They are your best friends. If they can't find an answer to your problems, they will find someone that can answer to you.

Great for these types of students

If you like to network and meet new people, Delaware is right for you. Also, if you like to work hard, and feel rewarded afterwards, Delaware is also right for you. Basically, it is a school suited for anyone. However, it is you're own personal college experience, and it is here for you to make what you want out of it. Nobody is going to force you to become something/someone, but everyone is here to help shape a great life experience. An open minded student with a positive attitude is welcome at Delaware on any given day.

I'm a Music Education major here, and not only am I already finding myself improving (not even two months into classes!) with my piano and vocal studies, but my General Education classes are teaching me a great deal. I like that there is a large amount of breadth requirements for all majors. Although it is stressful at times, it allows for a well-rounded, exciting education. My Professors all love what they teach, and many are published experts in their field, making their knowledge that much more valuable.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful, everyone is friendly, the staff and faculty are so helpful, the food's really pretty good, school spirit abounds. Literally every day I think of how lucky I am to be going to such a great school and studying in such a fantastic music department around such talented and encouraging Professors AND peers.

    Bang for the buck

I got a pretty good scholarship so a lot of the financial burden has been taken off my family. But I definitely do see that tuition goes to good use, between classes, facilities, student programming, etc.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply to the honors program; I'm currently in it and am enjoying the challenging and engaging classes. Honors students all live together, and it's really nice that on weeknights or Sundays, when we have to buckle down, we either sit in the hallway or the lounge and study together. We all might be stressed about classes and wanting to put off our work, but the fact that everyone around you is studying makes it easier. It's also nice to be able to knock on your neighbor's door and ask them to proofread a paper for you or answer a quick question. We lean on each other.

Great for these types of students

Music students, those who enjoy peer encouragement/feedback on their work, honors students.
I just wanted to write a message for people who are concerned that Delaware is a party school...on any given weekend (probably weeknight, for that matter) lots of people will be interested in going out and drinking, and lots of parties are available nearby to cater to that. But really, if you're being true in your friendships, you'll find people who prefer watching a movie or playing board games, and you'll find school-sponsored activities or performances to enjoy. While I don't consider myself a partier and spend a lot of my weekends in, I do appreciate that if I do want to go out, I can easily find a party. And I feel no pressure to drink. It's just a matter of finding a group of friends who enjoy the same activities that you do.

    Did learn a lot

Up at UD, you have bad teachers and good ones, just like anywhere else. Most of my experiences with professors here were excellent, and I enjoyed my classes even as I wrote three or four essays a week.

    Did enjoy being here

The new dorms are beautiful. Campus food leaves something to be desired, but the cereal bar is up and running. Main Street is open late and always good for a little entertainment.

    Bang for the buck

Being an in-state student, my fees weren't as high as some other students'. Financial aid isn't too great though.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't lose your PDI card!! That sucker will cost you up to a hundred dollars to replace, and there's a high demand on the black market for them.

University of Delaware finds the best teachers in their fields who are not only the most intelligent, but also the most eager and willing to spread their knowledge for the benefit of others. No matter which field you are majoring in, the teachers will always go above and beyond lecturing straight out of a book. They encourage questions, research, and new ideas.

    Am enjoying being here

The school has a beautiful campus, especially during the spring. There are so many easily accessible events and activities that many students can join - the university is not so immense that one feels intimidated to join clubs. Dorm life is extremely enjoyable, especially when the University takes great care to match up roommates with very similar interests and living habits.

    Bang for the buck

University of Delaware is not a huge state school, but its size is its advantage - students have more educational, research, club, sport, and recreational opportunities than those in other schools with over 10k students per class. Education and student support is exceptional. University of Delaware offers everything large schools do, except with a stronger focus on the individual student and his/her interests. For the amount of options available at the University, its tuition and experience is a major deal!

Since I have come to this school I have learned more than I could have imagined. The professors are all really nice and pull knowledge and information out of me that I never knew I had. All are very encouraging and personal. Yes, they learn your name and take time to make sure you understand the material properly. I haven't just learned from the school though, the other students attending have also helped me learn and grow here. We tend to stick together in rough classes, help each other out with problems, and build great friendships. And don't forget, we're living on our own here now, requiring newly learned ways of time management, meal coordination, etc. College will be one of the best learning experiences of your life, choose wisely.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely LOVE being here. The campus is so beautiful with multiple fountains throughout campus. We have a built-to-scale solar system spreading across campus which is pretty neat to explore. There is also the mentor's circle which has perfect acoustics. It's outside and students walking through it will clap once they get to the middle of the circle just to hear the perfect sound. Entertainment? OF COURSE! Free basketball and football games and you get a free t-shirt at each one. We have an outdoor pool with a sliding board (an inside pool too!), two ice skating rinks (free entry for students, hockey games $4, etc.), and so much more! We also have a special fund for students here that we get student events like outdoor movies, tye-dying parties, ice cream parties, etc. On any given day there is always SOMEWHERE to go or something to do with your friends. And yes, you will make lots of friends here on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Okay, so my tuition went up 9% this past year. The economy is stinking pretty badly right now, but as an out of state student I happen to think that less than 30,000 a year is pretty darn good. And for in staters, you've got it made even more. With plenty of financial aid to offer and various scholarships and grants, you don't need to worry about having too many loans when you graduate. I'd say for the education, entertainment, and beauty of the school, this is the best deal!

    Tips for prospective students

Academically, work hard, don't be afraid to ask teachers for help because THEY LOVE IT, it shows you're interested in their class and are working hard. Study a little bit here and there and don't push off that paper until the night before. It's just like your teachers in high school are telling you.
Socially, try out for a sports team or join a club. UD funds all sorts of clubs I've never heard of. Be it a' capella, the rubber chickens comedy group, swing dancing, environmental club, broom ball or other sports teams (intramural and club), there HAS to be something for you to do here. Plus, you make a lot of friends (there's a huge gathering of all the clubs your first day here).

Great for these types of students

UDel is well-known for the sciences around here, especially with all of the DuPont science centers and such in this state. We also have an excellent animal science and pre-veterinary program with some reserved seats in certain vet schools. I also know we have a lot fashion majors and business and communications is extremely competitive here. If you want to have a good time and get a good education, this is the place for you! Trust me, I'm living the experience right now and I wouldn't change a thing!

I am so glad I chose to attend UD. It is a fairly big campus, but most of the classes are small so it allows for individual attention. The teachers are very willing to help you in and outside of class. The workload is demanding, but very worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus and atmosphere of UD. Everyone is friendly and the campus is beautiful. You will discover when you take tours. It is very peaceful outside to study or just relax. There are so many clubs and organizations to be involved with. UD is such a nice school and great environment to further your education.

    Bang for the buck

University of Delaware is a bit pricey, but most students earn very nice scholarships. You won't regret spending the money by attending this school.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips would be never wait til the last day to write your essays. It is possible but with all the other work you have to accomplish, it makes life much more complicated. Also, by a lanyard for your access card and key for your dorm, because it costs a lot of money to replace them and change the locks. Lastly, don't be afraid to get involved. I wish I was more involved my freshman year.

Great for these types of students

UD is great for everyone. If you are interested in music, there is a great music program. You always have access to many practice rooms, and have a chance to really improve and learn from a great musical staff. If you are very interested in academics, teachers are willing to help you and there are plenty of places for quite studying or help centers for tutoring. The sports are great, and the football games are always fun. If you like activities, there is a club for everything. If they don't have your club, you can create it. You will enjoy your college experience by attending UD!

Professors are very eager to help you succeed. They are willing to work with you. You have to READ. Many students think going to class will be enough to pass, but most of the exam questions are answered through readings. Also, it reinforces what you learned in class. Don't miss class, many teachers love pop quizzes because students don't feel the need to go to class. Remember you're paying for each lecture so you might as well attend the class session!

    Am enjoying being here

I love my school, dorm, friends. What more can I ask for? It is easily accessible to trains so I can head home when things get tough and my mom comes to visit often and stays at the campus hotel so I can get away for a few days! It is amazing. The dorm I live in is one of the newest build and I can control my heat and A/C. I also have my own bathroom, well I have suite mates but it's more convenient sharing with three people than a whole floor. Food isn't all that great but there is always a salad bar, pasta bar and vegetarian meals. Specialty nights are fun also! I mean, it was the perfect fit for me. I love the clean and welcoming environment our school maintains. Very little crime and I am always safe! Also, there is always something to do. I love the movie series, $3 to see movies that came out within the past year and aren't on DVD yet! That is a steal =]

    Bang for the buck

Although I love UD, I find myself dishing out more than my family can afford. As an out-of state student my tuition is paid by private student loans. That is about $24,000 in loans per years, so you do the math. By the time I graduate, find a good career and start paying off my loans this would probably be increased by some interest percentage. But, you do get a lot for your tuition price. Housing, resources, and a guaranteed job if you take all the necessary steps to make it happen!

    Tips for prospective students

Make use of all the resources on campus. Many students don't step foot into the writing center, academic enrichment center or career services until their senior year. These are places that are there to help you from the start! Good luck!

Great for these types of students

Students who know how to manage their time! The friendlier the better, everyone is always happy and in the good mood. So many random people smile at me daily! It's heart warming. Also, school spirit is a must! UD is known for their Blue and Gold!!

    Am learning a lot

I am a History Education major in my sophomore year. Freshman year was exciting and new with so many choices of classes and clubs and organizations in which to participate. Of course it was a lot of work balancing classes, my 2 part time jobs, sorority membership and volunteer work, but it was definitely worth it. U of D is the one college that has my specific major, which I would have to self-design at other colleges.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being a Blue Hen and a Delta Gamma girl. It's very rewarding to do philanthropic work for the blind through sorority fundraisers and the sorority is very supportive if you need tutoring help. The DG's have the second highest GPA out of all the Greek sorority's on campus. Since I am a commuter student, belonging to a sorority has provided that connection to campus that I was seeking.

    Bang for the buck

Being an in-state, commuter student, my expenses are not as great as some of the other full time students who live on campus and are not from Delaware. However, U of D gave me a great financial aid package along with the exact major that I wanted and those two factors made it easy to choose U of D over the other colleges that accepted me.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit U of D and experience a campus tour and orientation first hand. Achieve the highest GPA possible and best SAT scores when you are in high school. Apply for financial aid and fill the FAFSA out as early as possible. Be prepared to work hard your first year. Freshman year is new and exciting and you can easily get overwhelmed with course requirements. I'm a History Education major so there is a lot of reading involved with my courses and some essay writing. Exams carry a lot of weight in determining your grades. Don't let your social life take priority - have fun, but not too much fun- remember why you are at college and keep your long term goals in mind. What you get out of your education is equal to the effort you are willing to put into it. Get involved, live your life to the fullest, and enjoy your education and college experience. Make friends and network with people. These experiences will open doors for you and give you opportunities that otherwise wouldn't be available.

Great for these types of students

U of D is great for a diverse group of students. The faculty is fantastic and are passionate about teaching. The students who will do best at U of D are students who can manage their time well and who truly want to learn and get a great education in their chosen major. If you are undecided on a major, the advisors are great and very helpful.

    Am learning a lot

University of Delaware courses are not easy A's. I find them challenging, but not to the point where they are impossible. Most professors are really great when it comes to office hours, answering e-mails quickly, and keeping their SAKAI pages up-to-date (SAKAI is UD's way of allowing professors to post lecture slides, announcemets, and class syllabi). Most classes are large lecture halls, but professors are always available during their office hours so having 300 other students in your 10 AM class honestly is not a problem. The school is also very recognizable, which is very helpful when applying for jobs or explaining to relatives where you want to attend.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful. This is obvious to anyone who enters Newark. Plus, Main Street being 5 minutes away from most residence halls is an added plus. Main Street is home to various restaurants and food shops, shopping, tanning, and much more. I also love the convenience and ease of the locations of fitness centers on campus. I'll admit, UD is pretty much a party school, but that doesn't mean you have to party to enjoy yourself. There's always so much to do!

    Bang for the buck

UD is expensive for out-of-state students. Generally, in-state students receive the most financial aid and scholarships. However, I definitely would not say the prices are unreasonable. You'll definitely receive a one-of-a-kind education attending this ACCREDITED university. Dining plans are optional for all students, and their prices are pretty reasonable. Russell and Pencader dining halls are the most popular, while Kent is open for continuous dining, and Rodney/Dickinson dining hall almost consistently receives poor reviews. Luckily, I was assigned to Russell and I can enjoy decent dining everyday. Also included in your bill is a health services fee. The health center provides 24/7 medical care for UD students. They have both nurses and physicians working to assist students with their medical needs. I've visited student health several times this past semester and I was pretty satisfied with my experience. Also available is parking, but the prices are pretty intimidating at first.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure the University understands your love of the school. While grades, GPA, and class rank are very important, the essay and recommendations are also highly considered in the decision process. I was actually wait-listed for the nursing program before writing Admissions a short e-mail explaining both my love of the University and my respect of its programs. Also remember to try and offer things other students can't. Display your talents, heritage, and interests as much as possible.

Great for these types of students

I know both liberal and conservative students. I am friends with both partiers and the type of people who stay in on Friday and Saturday nights. Because it is such a large school, the diversity that is present is very apparent while walking around campus. Although caucasians are the great majority, the University insists that it is diverse. I also know that gay/lesbian individuals are accepted AND respected on campus. The most important thing to consider when choosing any university is: can you see yourself living, learning, loving, and working here for the next four (or more) years?

The professors at UD know the material that they are teaching very well and have great teaching tactics, usually depending on the subject. Most teachers get you involved in lecture, while others (like chemistry, where not much involvement is possible) just talk. there are many opportunities for students, for instance, students majoring in exercise science (PT), can volunteer at the PT lab and get first year hands on experience! Every opportunity is there just take advantage and be open minded!

    Am enjoying being here

UD has a beautiful campus, one of it's many great qualities. The campus is always clean, the dining hall has many food options and actually tastes pretty good. for holidays, they decorate the dorms and dining halls and have special dinners like thanksgiving and Christmas. There is a movie theatre where new movies not yet on DVD are played, concerts (maroon 5 this past novemeber) and 10 minutes from campus (an easy walk) there is main street where there are many stores, restaurants and coffee shops. There are many parties at UD, and for those who don't party, they have campus activities like clubs, so, go out and get involved!

    Tips for prospective students

i did really well in hs and i thought i'd have no problem in college, but i just finished my first semester as freshman here and my biggest tip is KEEP FOCUSED, you're in college for a reason. your friends live in the same dorm as you, so it's easy to get interupted and side traceked- BE STRONG! work first play later!.i promise, it's worth the hard work. classes here are not easy, it's not going to be a breeze so make sure you get ahead on your hw and study at least 3 to 4 days in advanced for a test. cram sessions aren't really that effective. of course you'll pull an all nighter or two for studying, but try not to make it a habit, you need your sleep. trust me!! eat right, do your work, hit the gym and get a good nights rest. you'll be happy you did when you get that 3.4 GPA if not better.

Great for these types of students

UD is a great place for students who are not afraid to step outside of their comfort zone. everyone here is very friendly and willing to have a good time. UD has a great Physical therapy program, and a great business program as well. If you're up for a challange but a good time as well, UD is the place for you!

The teachers here really care about their students. A lot of the introductory classes are packed in terms of subject matter and students, so your best help comes from visiting during office hours. Every class I've taken has taught me a great amount of useful material. I'd recommend taking classes as honors though, if available, because when the honors classes are a separate section they go further into real-life applications and the smaller class sizes give more opportunities to ask the professors relevant questions.

    Am enjoying being here

This school has something for everyone. From its many majors to its hundreds of student organizations, there's plenty to do on campus. And its short distance to other large cities provides many options for additional things to do. Plus the campus is gorgeous, there's a great variety in food, and you'll get plenty of exercise by trying to get to class on time.

    Bang for the buck

Out-of-state tuition is very high, and it's a bit crazy that they would raise tuition when we're in the middle of a recession. However, it is a great education, and the school does offer a huge amount of services. Still, you'd have to participate in a lot of different things to feel like you're getting your money's worth.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't bring a car unless you're sure you need one- parking is expensive, competitive, and far away. Also, Delaware is a great place, but you need to find a group of people you fit well with - - freshman housing is good because they try to match people with similar interests. And, as with any college, there's a lot of freedom to be yourself - but it's up to you to stay on track. And lastly, be prepared for every type of weather--it's quirky.

    In three sentences

University of Delaware is amazing, it instantly became home to me. Residence living is fun and offers a lot, professors are approachable and easy to understand, and the campus is a perfect size. I love the look of the campus also, the long greens and classic brick buildings.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely apply to the University of Delaware, it has a lot to offer and is amazing. I am in love with the school and so excited to spend the next four years there. I am most looking forward to the study aboard program which I plan to attend during winter session of my junior or senior year.

    Dorm Life

I live in George Read North, one of the newer dorms on Laird Campus. My floor is so close and I love everyone on it, we are like one big family. I love my room also and the location of the building. It is so much fun.

    Food and Dining

I have only eaten at Pencader Dining Hall because that is the one closest to me. The food is pretty good, sometimes it gets a little old having the same thing over and over. But generally they offer a wide variety for everyone. And if you get tired of the dining hall, just go to Trabant Student Center where you can get Chic Fil A and other great food using points. Or just go downtown to one of the many restaurants.

    What to do for fun

During the week I spend most of my time just hanging out with friends and we study and do homework in the different lounges of the dorm. We make our fun just being with each other. On weekends we go out, there are lots of fun parties.

    Clubs and Activities

I am a member of the Equestrian Club Team. We have weekly meetings and compete in horse shows. I love the team so much and it was a great way to meet more people. I was hesitant to join at first but my mom pushed me to and I am so glad that I joined its amazing.

    Campus Safety

I feel extremely safe on campus at all times. I see a large police presence and it makes me feel very safe. They ride bikes around, patrol on foot and in their cars. You can always call campus safety to pick you up also any time of the night or day and they will come get you and bring you where you need to go on campus.

    Did learn a lot

The College of Engineering has some really great professors, and some ones who should get fired, like any other school. Overall, I learned a lot from my various requirements and felt very prepared for the FE exam, come senior year.

    Did enjoy being here

I am THRILLED that I chose UD. It was my safety school to begin with, but the students here are amazing and I couldn't have found a better school for me anywhere else. The vibe on campus is great. You really can do anything here.

    Bang for the buck

Though UD is less expensive than many of the schools I applied to, it is quite pricey and there are many hidden costs in attending (winter session).

    Tips for prospective students

Don't think college is going to be easy. I was an honors student in HS with a 3.9 GPA and ended up on academic probation. Twice. I ended up graduating with a BS in engineering, and landed a great job, but be cognisant of the fact that the career services is only for business majors. They cater to no one else. You're going to have the time of your life at UD, just remember to study hard.

Great for these types of students

Anyone social. The key to fitting in at UD is to be social. Meet new people, go to parties, play sports. You'll find a new friend everywhere you look (I know that sounds cliche). Most of my friends at UD were well rounded students, and maintained many extracurriculars.

The University of Delaware is constantly pushing its students to expand the classroom and learn about the world we live in. From the newest technologies, to top notch professors, to valuable hands on experience, The University of Delaware is an academic force to be reckoned with.

    Am enjoying being here

From the various shops and restaurants of the vibrant Main Street to the UD student filled cockpit at the football games, what isn't to like about the University of Delaware. The campus is always busy with students and activities and there is never a dull moment at UD. Personally, I am thrilled with my decision to go there and am enjoying every minute of it.

    Bang for the buck

The cost of going to college is continuing to rise, and thus it is important that students get their bang for their buck. Therefore, I would highly recommend the University of Delaware for anyone wishing to continue with their education. At UD, you are not only paying for a degree with a name, but you are also paying for a rich once in a lifetime experience that you simply cannot find anywhere else.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking to apply to the University of Delaware, the best advice that I can give you is to make sure that you write an amazing entrance essay. Sure, it is also necessary to have good grades and SAT/ACT scores, but the entrance essay is a chance to really connect with the admissions board and show them who you really are.

Great for these types of students

The University of Delaware is a very diverse school that has a little bit of everything for everyone. Whether you are looking for quality academics, a vibrant social life, or the whole package, The University of Delaware is the place for you.

    Am learning a lot

I have been attending University of Delaware for three semesters now and I feel I have learned more in those three semesters than I did in my entire high school curriculum.

    Am enjoying being here

I currently to UD from my home in Bear, but that does not discount how great the campus is. The amount of effort to keep the campus aesthetically pleasing is insurmountable.

If you are from Delaware, UD is a great choice for a quality college experience that does not put you or your family in too much of a financial burden. I know many people that come from out of state and they all say the same thing 'that it is great!' UD does a lot to draw the attention of out of state students through lucrative scholarships making it more feasible to pay the tuition increase. On top of all that, Delaware being so small and close to surrounding major cities, you have the privilege to visit D.C. and Philadelphia on the weekends with limited costs.

    Tips for prospective students

If you choose to go to UD, prepare for great experience. The university offers many opportunities to study abroad, do research under esteemed Professors, and even work for the university or in Newark (The town in which UD resides).

Great for these types of students

UD is great for all types of students, if you have a particular interest in sports, there are several sports fields as well as athletic complexes available for student use. If you enjoy the outdoors, UD sports a marvelous campus with lots of green and shrubbery everywhere, and come spring and early fall you can spend time outside relaxing/playing in the sun.

The teachers here are fantastic and know an incredible amount about their subject area, which makes class much more interesting, and in turn leads to a more educational experience. The classes are interesting and very informative.

    Am enjoying being here

The traditional style of campus is beautiful during all times of the year and makes the walk to anywhere you have to go enjoyable. There are tons of events and activities, so there is always something to do and if you can't find something sponsored by the University that interests you, the town of Newark is very closely integrated with campus and always has things going on. The people are friendly, facilities are nice, and I love being on campus!

    Bang for the buck

The price may be a bit misleading, but when you consider the credentials of the school, it is clear to see that the cost of tuition is a great value. UD has a collection of professors with extinguished honors in their fields (even Nobel Prize winners!) and many programs that are nationally recognized. The prestige that accompanies a diploma from the University of Delaware makes it a great value!

Great for these types of students

The size of UD makes it great for students that like being around people and meeting new friends.

My classes have been great so far and I am looking forward to learning even more next semester. I remember many of the interesting things I learned and discussed in class. Professors are great and really know what they are talking about.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus! It is beautiful and I go for walks whenever I need a break from homework. I absolutely love living on campus, there is so much to do and so many people to meet that you will never get bored. And one of the best things is that everyone else I've met there thinks the same as I do about it!

    Bang for the buck

I live outside of Delaware, so there is a bit of a price difference between what I pay and what people who live in Delaware pay. I feel like the money I am paying for tuition is not being wasted because I have already learned so much, and I have only taken a semester of classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Join a club and get involved!
Definitely visit campus when you are deciding where you want to go to school so that you can get a feel for if you belong there.
Talk to a current student in your major to see what your classes are like.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to be challenged academically, and have fun getting involved in a variety of ways on campus.

The University of Delaware is actually a fair school in its academics despite being in such a small state. I took 11 AP classes in high school, yet I've still found some of the classes here to be a challenge.

    Am enjoying being here

While it's good in terms of academics, I do not enjoy the student population. A lot of them can be blatantly stupid, even those in the honors program. Drinking is prevalent, yet despite how trashy the students can be, when they're sober a lot of them can be snobby.

    Bang for the buck

Absolutely not. This university seems unnecessarily absorbed in profit by some of the things they charge you for, and I consider their financial aid sub-par at best. Even as an in-stater I'm paying more than I can really afford, and this is WITH a 7500 scholarship I got from merit AND with loans! I haven't heard many positive things about out-of-state financial aid, either.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're interested in business or engineering, this is supposedly a good school. Make sure your academics are on par so that you can get enough merit scholarship to support you.

Great for these types of students

Students with reasonable academics and a strong appeal in social life and drinking.

Even though Delaware does not seem all that interesting, University of Delaware was a better school than I expected it to be. Its only my freshman year, but so far many teachers and programs have been very helpful to help get through college. There is help for just about any subject but you just have to know where to go. Meeting with your teachers at office hours allows students to go to their teachers and ask help. If that is not enough the Academic Enrichment Center provides a list of tutors. University of Delaware is also big on undergraduate research, if you want to do research in many majors as an undergraduate University of Delaware is a good place to get started.

Academically,it is very challenging in the sciences. It is a research college. I work very hard for good grades. The professors are very helpful. Most science professors teach and do research work.Students attend from around the world. It is a large college.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for the academic waves throughout the semister. It starts out slow but builds and peaks with exams. suddenly all assignments are due and taking exams. You must juggle it all. Tip: read the chapter before the lecture is given.

    Academic Rigor

One of the great advantages of this campus is that you don’t have to walk very far to get to places. Its’ like a little college town. This campus is located right off of Main Street where there are lots of restaurants and stores. If you are willing to meet lots of new people, break out of your shell and try new things you will love this campus. Don’t just stay in your dorm room, get out and explore all of the other activities such as: sports, sorority involvement groups, plays, dance lessons, art lessons, and even their movie theatres. If you are an animal lover, they offer a club named “Seeing Eye Puppy Club”. You get to help raise and care for the puppies until they are ready for their foster homes.

    Campus Safety

The campus is equipped with over 100 outdoor emergency telephones and “blue lights” where you can just press a button to call for help or if you need an assistant to walk you back to your dorm. If you are in trouble and need to run, they can trace the button and will see the blue lights go off. Also, if there is an emergency on campus, everyone will be notified via text, phone calls or email alerts. Another safety benefit is that to enter into any residence hall you would need a security card and the doors have alarms if they are not closed properly.

My second home. A place where I am so involved yet so challenged in classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Our programs here are awesome. First year experiences for those that are in specific programs are great, they get you started in your field as well as being a freshman. Plus there is literally so much to do here. Not a suitcase school by any means. Because it is a campus you may find some people you just dont care for but those who are in your major and in your classes will be some of the greatest people you meet because they have the same interests as you.

    Academic Rigor

Nursing is pretty tough here. Not because they want us to be 4.0 students and not have lives, but because our science class-load as well as our professors whom encourage us to be involved in other things than nursing tends to be challenging because it is a big responsibility. I have friends who are in other majors who dont have to put in half the effort I do to get the grades that I work for and yes sometimes its frustrating but those who are nurses like me totally understand and are the greatest support system. Of course because we're stuck together for four years and our program is a pretty small community, we do tend to be super involved in other things to meet other people.

    Dorm Life

My only complaint is choosing my roommate. Not that I dont like her, shes awesome! But at the same time, it gave me expectation and when you start your new chapter of college you shouldnt have ANY expectations. the unknown is awesome and because i had expected my roomie and I to have a better/different relationship, i was let down when she got close with everyone on the floor and i had to venture out for my friends. We all came together but of course, its better to just not have any expectations at all. I love my dorm, my community, how much this school gives students the opportunity to be involved and help us with involvement.

    Food and Dining

Maybe because my mom cant boil water, i love our food so much. The menus are online, you can eat at any of our four dinning halls, theres themes and always a salad bar, cereal station, vegetarian station and the main course. Its awesome. at my friends schools, they have to cook their own food and its half the quality of ours.

    What to do for fun

We have over 300 clubs and organizations. Im in ROTC, greek life, did some dance class, as well as I work in admissions and dont miss a chocolate club meeting!

    Bang for the buck

So, heres the thing about UD. Alum put a lot of money into the school for delawareans.. and thats why its so dirt cheap for instate. Out of state, not so much. But our school is technically private. It only get like 15% of its funding from the state. Plus, the money we spend goes to all the amazing renovations, the activities constantly going on campus, cleaning up, residential life, basically everything that runs a university. So , like private schools its a little pricy but its the public school feel at better quality than a public school. Yes, im a little bothered they arent doing more to help finance students but at the same time, i know my money is going to run this amazing campus, i just wish I saw a list of things for example... you learn about the writing center as a freshman but thats apart of tuition... just the little things need to be pointed out.

We have an escort system here so if you get scared about walking around at night UDPD will get you to where you have to be. Plus, one time I came in on a train, which is right down the road from campus, at like 1030pm and I called UDPD to bring my back to my dorm because I was too tired and didnt want to walk home alone.

B-E-A-U-TIFUL campus!! Great sense of welcoming for every student. Everyone is very friendly.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely visit: it allows you to emerge yourself in the campus and feel if this is the school for you. Also, do an overnight visit if you can: they are super fun and can give you a real sense of how the campus and student body is without them having the fake I love my school smile on their face that you would see on a regular tour. If they still have the smile on their face at 12 am, then they really love this school.

    Academic Rigor

UD already is known for their academic rigor, but especially in the Honors program. That's where I will be in the fall, and I am excited to challenge myself.

    Dorm Life

The Honors dorms (which are in Russell Hall) are gorgeous! The dorms are Z-shaped, so it's like having a single inside a double. Biggest dorms I've every seen. And the bathrooms...SPOTLESS!

    Food and Dining

Food was pretty good, considering it was from a campus dining hall. Different types of food to satisfy even the pickiest of taste buds.

    What to do for fun

Two words: Main Street. Everything you could imagine is on that street (food, shopping, sports bars, etc.). And if you don't feel like venturing onto Main street (but why wouldn't you) there are so many things to do on campus, from shows to plays and movies to games, there is always something to do.

    Bang for the buck

UD really gave nice scholarships totaling in the amount needed to cover the entire bill for an in-state student. Unfortunately, I am an out-of-state student, but even with the additional financial aid, UD made the cost extremely lower than any in-state NJ school.

Great for these types of students

Honors students and any student with a fun personality. Also, for those worrying that UD is a party school, when I did my overnight visit, I stayed with a host who was like me and wasn't into drinking and partying. I had so much fun talking and chilling with her and her roommate, they were a major reason in why I decided to go there. If your worried about finding people who don't party all the time. don't be: it is easy to find people just like you.

The University of Delaware is a great school filled with opportunities to learn and grow both academically and personally. UD offers a wide variety of majors, courses, and programs that encourage students to challenge themselves. The school's hundreds of student organizations allow students to explore as many interests and experience as many things as they wish.

    Tips for prospective students

UD's campus is beautiful and with its unlimited opportunities to meet and socialize with others, you'll be sure to have a unforgettable college experience here. But if you're thinking about coming to UD, make sure you really consider what major(s) you're interested in and what kind of environment you want to surround yourself with for four years. UD is well-known for its Engineering school, and its business school is pretty competitive. Once you're at UD, really take advantage of all the resources the school provides you with. If you ever have any questions about anything school related, don't hesitate to talk to your RA, your professors, or your advisors. Go to your professor's or TA's office hours if you need extra help. Go to the Career Fairs to talk to possible future employers. Go to the Academic Counseling Center if you're confused about your major or career goals. All these people are here to help you, so talk to them!

    Academic Rigor

Difficulty level definitely varies from class to class and really depends on the professor, but overall, the learning experience at UD can be pretty challenging. I think for any student at UD, you really just need to manage your time well. Go to lectures, pay attention in class, take notes, study hard, do your work, talk to the professor, and you'll do fine.

    Dorm Life

Some dorms are fairly new, spacious, and clean; others are not. But really, the physical conditions of the dorm are no big deal. No matter which complex you live in, your floor mates will be generally friendly and, especially freshman year, everyone will be open to getting to know everyone else. Your experience in the dorms is really what you make of it. If you want to be really social, hang out with your floor mates, spend time out in the hallway, and get involved in floor/building events. If you'd rather have time to yourself, that's cool too.

    Food and Dining

Food in the dining hall really isn't too bad. There are four dining halls, and if you go to them often enough, you'll notice that they all rotate their menus every couple of weeks. Some days are definitely better than others, but you get used to it.

UD also has a couple of buildings with burger places, salad bars, a Quizno's, and a Chik-FIl-A, where you can pick up a quick meal in between classes or you can go to if you don't feel like going to the dining hall, which is nice.

Also, close to campus is Main Street, which lined with dozens of both local and well-known chain restaurants.

    What to do for fun

Get involved on campus. Join student organizations that meet throughout the week. You'll make lots of new friends and get to do really fun things together.

    Academic Rigor

    Dorm Life

i lived in rodney my freshman year which was a lot of fun. don't get discouraged if you somehow get a single and are rooming by yourself. that's what i had and it was the best situation because i became great friends with other people on my floor and still hang out with them today. you're not pressured to go out and drink if you don't want to, and with a single you can come and go as you please. it was nice because everyone else on the floor also had a single with the exception of a few so everyone was very social.

    Food and Dining

any type of student really, but mostly the students are outgoing and friendly. it is an environment for any type of individual.

it's a great education for the price, especially for in-state students. they do a really good job of creating connections to different companies, with lots of internships and research opportunities for students. definitely a big-school vibe, with a largely apathetic atmosphere.

    Academic Rigor

i haven't had any absolute joke classes but i haven't had too many insanely difficult classes either.

    Dorm Life

good for freshmen, not great for upperclassmen. housing selection process is annoying and unpredictable.

    Food and Dining

dining halls promote quantity, not necessarily quality. i like it more than most though.

    What to do for fun

    main street

I really believe that it depends on the class and the professor. I have had some really tough teachers with some really easy classes and vice a verse. It definitely can be challenging but once you've found the good teacher, you'll know it!

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here! Its nice, the campus and beautiful small town feel. Everyone can bike or walk to classes within a short time. Not to mention that UD has some wonderful resources that students can use!

    Bang for the buck

At times. I wish that they had more opportunities and resources for funding adult students but for regular students it is well worth every penny!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't take Chemistry on a full load, consider it two or three classes not as one class and NEVER for your first semester!

Plenty of challenging courses available to students in a variety of subjects, professors as well as advisers are 100% committed to seeing their students succeed in their classes - I feel like I've learned more in the first two years of college than in the four years of high school!

    Am enjoying being here

Great environment! Tons of activities to join, many ways to become involved on campus, a lot of positive people who love learning

    Bang for the buck

Being an in-state students definitely helps out in this area. As an Associate in Arts (A.A.) student, the S.E.E.D. scholarship pays for your first two years of college, which pays for all tuition and fees. Granted, you won't be taking classes on main campus, you still are an University of Delaware students, taking University of Delaware classes taught by University of Delaware professors with other University of Delaware students. And it's free! Also being an in-state student, UD has a program called Commitment to Delawareans wherein the University pledges to meet the full demonstrated financial need of Delaware residents who complete the FASFA, which in my opinion is awesome!

    Tips for prospective students

If money is an issue, the University's Associates of Arts program is a great option for students who are looking to graduate from a more liberal program as opposed to the sciences. The first two years of the program is completed at Delaware Technical Community College. The courses offered are mainly introductory and for that reasons I would say its a great option for students interested in liberal studies. Upon the completion of the program, students then transfer to main to finish their bachelors degree.

Great for these types of students

All kinds! The University is very diverse and there is all kinds of opportunity for every person who attends.

I am learning more about Music Education than I ever thought possible. The professors are enthusiastic about their subjects and are always willing to help you understand the material. They are encouraging and ultimately want to see you succeed.

There is so much to do on campus! You have the Trabant Student Center where you can go to eat, or meet with any of the hundreds of clubs offered. There's the Perkins Student Center, which has the Scrounge and a Dunkin Donuts. Of course, there's Main Street which always has something to do, but there's also the college itself. The beautiful facilities make it easy to simply enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the grass with friends.

    Bang for the buck

The beautiful campus alone could make the tuition worth paying, but in conjunction with the faculty and the people you meet here, it's worth it for sure. The amount that you learn and the amount of amazing experiences you are offered make the university seem almost priceless.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you take advantage of all the opportunities you are offered on campus! Attend Campus Breakout at the beginning of the fall semester, hang out with your floormates, go to clubs, and attend all of your classes. Even learning becomes less of a chore at Delaware, and that's a rare characteristic for any university!

Great for these types of students

Social, outgoing, hardworking, driven, motivated, ready for new challenges.

The College of Business & Economics has a very well-rounded curriculum to make sure that students learn all aspects of the business. There are some absolutely fantastic teachers and some below average ones. I've done a few internships so far and I've actually seen an overlap of what I've learned in the classroom with what I've seen in the real world. There are a lot of opportunities and networking possibilities with teachers, but you have to take advantage of it. Most are really willing to help during office hours and sometimes they ask you to just come and chat or catch up if they were a previous professor. Overall though, if you check Rate-My-Professor and there are a significant number of reviews, it tends to be pretty accurate.

    Am enjoying being here

There are a ton of clubs and other things to get involved in around campus! We have a Chocolate Club... (It's the largest club on campus!) How many other schools can say that?! There are clubs for networking, volunteering, and Harry Potter. They play Quidditch out on the Green a lot! There are also lots of intermural sports, club sports, and varsity ones. Football games are the big thing in the fall. As for the weekends, there are always parties going on. Most are pretty average, but there are always about 5 absolutley fantastic ones that make up for it each semester! If you're not into drinking, it's definitely possible to go out and dance at them or to find other people to hang out with instead of going out as well!

    Bang for the buck

Out-of-state tuition is extremely high. It's a great school and all, but that just makes tuition jump that much more every year. As for housing, it generally costs less to live in a house than it does to live in an off-campus apartment and the houses are also typically closer to campus. Also, study abroad programs have pretty large program fees, but they offer lots of scholarships if you apply early.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're not sure exactly what you are looking to major in, want to meet lots of people, always want something to do, are really into school spirit, and like free stuff, I would definitely recommend going to a large school. There are a ton of options! Also, most people come to this campus on tours and think its huge, but I and most other people that I've talked to agree that it seems much smaller when you get here. Your classes tend to be in the same academic area and it gets easy to find your way around. It may be overwhelming for a few days, but thats it. Just keep an open mind about everything and try to come in with a positive attitude!

Great for these types of students

If you like to party, this is definitely the school for you. If you're more on the quiet side, it is still a great school, but you have to look a little harder to find things to do and people to hang out with. Its a large school though, so there are people here! You just have to find them.

    Did learn a lot

Science majors here are very competitive, expect to work hard but get some great experiences that prepare you well and put you ahead of the crowd. As an exercise physiology student I even had the chance to exam and handle cadaver pieces, which my friends in similar majors at other schools had not had to chance to do.

    Did enjoy being here

Once you figure out where your niche, this is an amazing school! The beautiful campus is wonderful to just walk around on, and main street right in the middle of the school provides plenty of entertainment and quite a few options to pick things up for studying, books, food, and even clothing. And nothing beats just sitting out on the turf and reading or playing frisbee on a nice fall or spring day.

    Bang for the buck

This is a very expensive school for out of staters, somewhere in between $33,000 and $40,000 a year. For in state it is much more reasonable, and very much worth the expense. If you can afford it as out of state, go for it! Especially if you want to be an engineer, chemist, or are looking into pre med

    Tips for prospective students

Before you make a decision, know how big of a school you are comfortable with. UDel has about 16,000 undergraduate students. That's a lot of foot traffic between classes and can make it difficult to meet people. It is also a school that tends to be big on partying, so if you need more structure and less temptation that's another thing to consider. Also since the school is so big, many classes are large.

Great for these types of students

Self Motivated, hard workers who are excited to learn and can balance work and play.

The quality of the classes at the University of Delaware depend on the professors, and I must say they certainly make it engaging and interesting to learn, whether you're in Child Development or Chemistry. The professors all seem very passionate about their subjects, and really work hard to pass that passion on to their students; not only that, but professors are also very open to meeting with students or discussing any issues (academic or not) as well, making it easier to go ask questions and the like.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at UD. It's not too big, and not too small - medium, I'd say! The classes are great, the campus is beautiful, and though you'd think that there's nothing to do in Newark, DE, Main Street will definitely prove you wrong with all of its shops and restaurants. Plus, UD offers plenty of on-campus activities and events, so trust me, you'll never be bored!

    Bang for the buck

Speaking from an out-of-state student's perspective, UD can seem very pricey, but it's important to think about what you're getting for your money. You're getting a big, beautiful campus with top-notch security and safety precautions; you're getting faculty who are more than qualified, and are very passionate about their work; you're getting dining halls that actually serve good food; you're getting free bus service, student centers, special events, concerts. UD really is a bang for your buck.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you know what kind of school you want, especially size wise. Some like small schools, some like big, some like schools somewhere in the middle. UD is definitely a school leaning towards middle to big.

I've only been here a semester yet I already am getting the feeling of how UD likes to well round their students. The required University classes are just as tough as my health studies classes, but I feel like I have learned a lot.

    Am enjoying being here

I love, love, love being here! The social scene is great, everyone is friendly, the students party hard, and the school spirit here is high, there never goes a day of a football game where you aren't surrounded by a sea of blue and yellow fans!

    Bang for the buck

Well, $32,000 isn't a cheap price tag, and I haven't really heard of anyone with a full ride. But it is definitely worth it. Some people were able to get some financial aid, but it mostly goes to the athletes.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your priorities and habits into line earlier on in your first semester. There are going to be a lot of new things you are going to want to try and do, but remember classes come first and partying second. Sometimes you can't do it all!

Great for these types of students

Work hard all day and expect to party all night... almost everyday of the week. If your social experience is an important factor this is a good place for you as well. And don't worry when you fall behind, professors are always willing to help during office hours.

Your background, the subject, and the teacher all have influence on the classes, and there can be a lot of work. Take interesting classes at your skill level, not easy classes, because then you won't care and you'll fail anyway.

    Am enjoying being here

All kinds of people attend UD and all of them make friends. There's never much to do, though it is Delaware, so you're signing up for that, but, when you're with a good group of people, that usually doesn't matter.

    Bang for the buck

The financial aid is not as good as it seems. There are restrictions on scholarships, and they give you less aid each year. However, it is a good education.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't go here unless you have to (or really really want to); you'll never leave, and your kids will hate you for it.

Great for these types of students

UD is great for people who are already living in Delaware, because, no matter where they turn, they'll see someone they know.

This is a BEAUTIFUL campus. When it's warm out, everyone is outside studying and playing frisbee. It's a great feeling of community when you walk around campus.

    Bang for the buck

This college is a little bit expensive, even for in-state students. However, they offer great free programs including: Student Health, multiple gyms, free tickets to games, and many other things.

    Tips for prospective students

Buy a block meal plan. It gives you more maneuverability in your schedule. Also, make sure you take advantage of the free programs on campus.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students that are majoring in Engineering, Business, Music, and many others. Also, this is a great place for students that like to study outside.
