Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Take the SAT and ACT as many times as possible, sign up for as many APs as YOU CAN HANDLE. Georgia is extremely selective these days. The average GPA for incoming freshman in 2009 is 3.9 with a 1300 SAT and 30 ACT score. It is important to take the standardized tests as much as possible to get the best score you can. Also, UGA wants to see that you are challenging yourself. APs are the best way to do so. And the more hours you have coming in as a freshman, the easier your life will be. You can sign up for classes earlier, change majors and still have lots of wiggle room, and even get better dibs on football tickets.
Great for these types of students Learn whether or not you are going to need your books in certain classes by the first week of school. You could save hundreds of dollars that way. Also, SIGN UP FOR ADVISING APPOINTMENTS EARLY!! This was an extremely important lesson I learned because students with the most hours get the earliest bid on classes (I didn't have that many) and the earlier the advising appointment the earlier you will be able to sign up for classes. Help you help yourself.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At the University of Georgia, I have learned a lot academically, I have learned a lot about myself, and I have learned a lot about the world around me. I feel like UGA definitely does its part by having so many opportunities for students to learn, and it is up to you as a student to capitalize on that plethora of opportunities. Because UGA encourages and pushes diversity, I have definitely discovered the significance and importance of it. I learned exactly how each person, regardless of creed, chosen religion, race, or gender contributes to the world and shapes the life experiences and view points of every single person they come into contact with. Through involving myself in various student organizations on campus, I learned how to effectively run a business meeting and how to work with other students to plan and raise money for programs for students on campus. I really honed and developed my leadership skills. I also learned to value the importance of community service. As a student at UGA, I found myself desiring to reach out to other students on campus, as well as those in the Athens-Clarke County community. At UGA, I have learned a myriad of things! It really is difficult to just pin point just one or two. But I do think that UGA offers students a lot to learn each and every day.
Am enjoying being here UGA is just so much fun! I honestly feel like every day is an adventure! There is ALWAYS something to do here! There are always free concerts (last year we had both T-Pain and Soulja Boy perform), Dawgs After Dark (this is basically a free carnival for students. There has been food, Build-A-Bear, ice skating, Ferris wheels and other rides, kayaking, and so much more! It happens about twice a semester and usually goes from 10pm to 2am. The best part is, it's all FREE!) There are what seems like thousands of student organizations to get involved in, and of course, everyone will have a great time with the sports offered at UGA. The University of Georgia is a key player athletically in the SEC and the NCAA. Our football team is outstanding and the games are a blast to attend! It's so exciting! Our baseball and softball teams are both REALLY good. Basketball is pretty good..the games are always fun to attend and a lot of times, they give students free t-shirts. I have even received a free Popsicle at a basketball game before! The Gym Dawgs (our gymnastics team) is PHENOMINAL! They always win the NCAA championships! Their meets are very exciting to attend!
The food at UGA is also amazing! I can't think of any other school that does food and meal plans as well as UGA does. There are four dining halls for students to choose from any time they want to eat. We even have one dining hall that is open 24 hours a day! Also, at UGA we have unlimited meal plans. This means you can go to the dining hall as many times in one day as u like! If u want to go to a dining hall after every single class, you can do it! You have unlimited visits to the dining halls! Sometimes, there are even live musicians inside the dining halls while u eat! It's really cool! Last, but certainly not least, UGA students do have a great time at parties :)
...Needless to say, I am really enjoying my time at UGA!Bang for the buck If you are a student from the state of Georgia and you are HOPE scholarship eligible, you definitely get the most bang for your buck because you don't pay tuition! It's really a great deal! It gives you plenty of incentive to keep your grades up and maintain your 3.0, or as my friends and I like to say, Keep HOPE alive! If you are a student coming to UGA from a state other than Georgia, it is definitely more expensive for you than it is for students who receive HOPE, but I do think it is a lot cheaper than a lot of other schools. Also, according to me, being a student at UGA is so great, a price can't even be put on it!
Tips for prospective students The number one tip I would like to give to prospective UGA students is to really take advantage of the opportunities that UGA has to offer. UGA is a great school with an amazing campus and student life and Athens is a fabulous city. I really encourage all students to get out there and see what UGA and Athens has to offer!
Also, I reccommend Dawg Camp to any students who have been accepted. It's just so much fun! You meet a lot of people and have the time of your life learning about all that UGA has to offer!Great for these types of students EVERYONE!! (no really, I promise I am not exaggerating!)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It’s easy to say that you will learn a lot in the classrooms here at the University of Georgia because you will. What sets UGA apart is how you learn outside of the classroom. You experience new ideas, places, and interests that show you more of who you are and what you want to do in your future. The diversity among people here allows you to learn about others and their cultures as well as how to communicate and work with those people. The campus and the encompassing town of Athens, GA create a dynamic place to learn, have fun, and work and serve as an extraordinary stepping-stone to real life!
Am enjoying being here UGA has SOMETHING for EVERYONE!!! There are about 400 recognized clubs here! We have great organizations including (but definitely not limited to): Philanthropy, Academics, Culture, Religion, Fitness & Sports, or the Arts (music, dance, art). It would be too difficult to tell you everything offered here. For example, have you heard of a Biological/Biochemical Defense Club before? UGA HAS! The Greek life is also a popular and diverse way to enjoy being here.
Besides the academics, you have probably heard about the athletics…and for great reason. It is always a treat to watch a matchup “Between the Hedges!” The football team has been one of the most consistent in recent history throughout the nation. It may surprise you, but the #2 sport at this university is women’s gymnastics. The Gymdogs, this past year, won their 5th straight national championship. They’ll leave you in awe of some amazing techniques! That’s a sample of UGA athletics, and the trend continues… all of our teams are always in the national spotlight!
If you need something else to do, it may be a tough choice. Downtown Athens has cool shopping, some amazing food, and plenty of places for social meetings. On campus, you have some of the best collegiate food services in the nation, quads to hang out with others, and a massive fitness center where you can exercise, take fitness classes, or sign up for intramural sports.
One thing you cannot miss out on here is the music scene. Many great bands have come from Athens, and that drives many of today’s students to perform music on the side. Check out the 40-Watt Club among other venues for some great, diverse music!
The ONLY possible thing to keep you from enjoying the University of Georgia is YOU! Athens will become your home.Bang for the buck The facts do not lie. The University of Georgia was rated the 6th best “bang for the buck” according to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. The quality of resources on campus is a great value for students. If you live in Georgia, you probably have the HOPE Scholarship, which covers your tuition costs here. Out of state or don’t have HOPE? No need to worry! Many departments at UGA offer scholarships to help pay for school. UGA also provides the opportunity to employ students in various areas. Also, there are countless local business in Athens give students a chance to help pay for their education here.
Tips for prospective students -Be on the lookout for FREE T-SHIRTS!
Athletic events and campus organizations often involve free T-shirts. They’re always pretty appealing and you can pick your size in most situations. It’s an easy way to get free clothing and maybe become interested in something new.
-Pay attention for emails on season tickets for athletics
The window to purchase student season ticket packages for athletic functions is usually only a couple of days, but for the discount price and entertainment value, you can’t forget to act on these emails.
-Find where you classes are on campus before they officially start.
It might take a couple of weeks to get used to such a large campus, so know where you are going beforehand. If you’re trying to choose between multiple routes to get from one class to another, don’t worry. Your teachers are usually gracious about being late the first few classes.
-Move outside of your bubble
Every introduction or greeting might open a life-changing opportunity for you, so don’t let it pass.
-Use your peers’ grade and professor ratings with caution.
What your peers think can often be a great resource, be sure they can justify theirs opinions. Sometimes, only negative people to like to complain tell the world how they feel.
-Don't be scared starting college!
It is natural to be a little nervous when starting college. However, you are not alone. 4,000 other freshmen are just as nervous as you, so relax and be yourself.Great for these types of students -If you want new experiences...
-If you love sports...
-If you want great connections for the future...
-If you like a challenge....
-Everybody...

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At UGA you get what you sign up for. I am currently taking 15 hours and all 15 of those are spent taking serious notes and paying close attention to learn the new material. I am learning new stuff everyday and am tested on it every 3 weeks. Coming out of my freshman year last year I learned a lot more than I ever did in high school. Then, this year I had to take courses to get into my major and I am now learning even more, but stuff that will specifically apply to my major.
Am enjoying being here Athens is a great town full of great food, shopping, and things to do. There is never a dull moment here whether you're looking for a night out or a study time in a coffee shop. UGA also has so many student events you can attend and have tons of school spirit. There are tons of great ways to get involved and meet new people. Even though it's a big school you see familiar faces walking to class and around campus. I've had the time of my life at Georgia and am so proud to be a dawg!
Bang for the buck I am paying out of state tuition and if it was not worth it then I would not still be here. I think that UGA is definitely worth the bang for the buck because not only are you getting a great education from a top college, but you are also getting wonderful colleges per major, SEC sport teams, a college town, and a full college experience.
Tips for prospective students The University of Georgia has been getting tougher and tougher to get into, so my greatest advice is to focus on SAT and ACT scores, take AP/IB classes, load up on extracurricular activities, and have a 3.3 or higher GPA. When I was applying to Georgia I did not apply early because I was afraid I would not get in. Therefore, I waited and wrote the four essays required during regular enrollment. If you are scared like me or think that you may not get in, either take the chance and apply early, or do like I did and wait for the regular deadline and write awesome essays. Also, for your recommendations pick people who truly impacted your life or have seen you excel in not only academics but also outside of school. I had my favorite AP teacher, my cheerleading coach, and my bible study leader write me recommendations so they got an idea of every side of who I was.
Great for these types of students UGA is great for anyone who does not get intimidated by a fairly big college, wants to get involved, likes to be surrounded by a variety of different people, and wants to focus on achieving in classes but also have fun. Students looking for a true college town where everyone there attends tailgates on Saturdays, wears the school colors, and offers student discounts- then Athens is the place to be! If you want to be on a beautiful campus but then want to be able to hit the lake forty five minutes away, or the mountains two hours away, or a big city like Atlanta (hour and a half away) then UGA is great for you! I love strolling through North Campus, going to the Botanical Gardens, shopping downtown, and screaming GO DAWGS at sporting events. At UGA you are truly experiencing what people call college life.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Academically, UGA has a lot to offer. Although most classes you will take in the beginning are prerequisite classes before getting into your major, they are for the most part interesting and challenging. If you want to learn, you will most definitely be able to.
Am enjoying being here There is also a lot outside of academics to be found at UGA! I am in a few organizations here that are totally awesome. Greek life is a great way to make some really close friends, but you can do that easily even if you aren't involved in Greek life. There are so many different clubs, organizations, and things to do that you are bound to find somewhere you belong. Athens has a great college-town vibe and as far as the number one party school thing goes, if you are looking for parties, they are to be found. But there is so much to do that doesn't include partying if it's not your thing. People aren't going to judge you if you don't drink. It is so easy to make friends here because there are tons of different people around and there is always something to do. And can I just say one word: FOOTBALL!!!!!! Saturdays in Athens are truly an amazing time. You will quickly pick up on all the traditions and really understand why everyone makes a big deal about it here. Other sporting events are really great too, and most are free for students or really cheap. There are also great organizations like BCM [I go to BCM and LOVE IT!] and Wesley if you are a Christian and are looking for somewhere to stay strong in your faith. Athens becomes your home very quickly, and you will love it.
Bang for the buck If you are a Georgia resident and have HOPE, this is definitely the school for you. Even if you are out of state, it is still worth it for sure. As far as money goes, I can pretty much go without spending it if I don't want to. Meal plan is awesome because you can each as much as you want whenever you want whenever you want and it's already paid for throughout the year. Living on campus and paying for books is kind of expensive, but that is pretty much how it is at any college you go to. Dorms are pretty nice for what you pay for them. As far as other things go, your student activities fee covers a lot of great stuff on campus! Free movies are shown all the time and we had a free carnival during homecoming week-cool things like that happen often. I got to see Ludacris in concert for free! Also, I definitely don't mind paying only $8 for every home football game I go to ;) Almost every other sporting event is free. College is expensive no matter where you go, but it is totally worth it at UGA because you get so much out of it.
Tips for prospective students -If you're wanting to get in-
Apply early! If you are admitted through early admission you will probably get the housing you want, and the application isn't as much work. Take as many AP/Honors classes as you can handle. Try your best in them, but don't stress about not having a GPA of 4.0 or above. Same goes with the ACT and SAT. Try to do really good and take them multiple times if you can. UGA wants to see that you are challenging yourself. Get involved with stuff going on at your high school and outside school, especially with leadership positions. UGA is interested in that kind of stuff too.
-Once you are here-
GET INVOLVED! As I've said, there really is something for everyone and so many ways to make good friends. When you are involved in something, the school seems a lot smaller and the more people you know, the smaller it gets. Don't be intimidated by the size.
Find out where your classes are before the first day. Life is a lot easier that way. Learning your way around isn't that bad. Get a bus map and learn those routes too. It takes a little more work, but the buses are free and convenient when you have a class that is far out of the way. Don't be afraid to ask an upperclassman. I've done it several times before and trust me, you will survive.
Don't forget to study! Definitely take advantage of all UGA has to offer because campus life is great and Athens is an amazing city, but academics are important too. Cramming the night before an exam is not going to cut it like it did in high school. You will probably have some weed out classes that will challenge you big time, but if you work hard enough you can do well.
Move out of your comfort zone and don't be worried about starting college! Use every opportunity to meet new people, including in your classes and on your hall. Sit with someone sitting by themselves in the dining hall and you could for real make a new friend. It's normal to be a little bit nervous about starting college [though people may not admit it] but make the most of the time you are given here. You will love it!Great for these types of students UGA really is great for all types of people. Because it is a big school, you are bound to find something academic and social wise that is perfect for you. Speaking of size, don’t be intimidated by the size. When you know your way around and know people, it seems a lot smaller. If you are wanting a different experience from what is going on at your town back home, come to UGA! It is a whole new experience. If you want a place that offers strong academics and plenty of good times, UGA is for you. Being here gives you great connections for the future and prepares you for whatever you want to do in life. I mean, I’m here to become a marine biologist if that tells you anything about the variety in majors. :) There is so much here for everyone.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently taking 16 credit hours this semester. Even though it has been hard work, I definitely feel like I am learning as much as I possible can. Free tutoring is offered for several courses, and other help is available for any course. My professors are extremely helpful, patient when working with students, and very eager to teach their courses. My science classes have been the most difficult; however, my critical thinking and learning skills have improved more than I could have ever imagined!!
Am enjoying being here Everyone in Athens is extremely friendly and nobody is judgmental. I come from a small town, and Athens seems like a different country than where I was raised in South Georgia.I meet new people every day, and there are student organizations for anyone. I have met people from other states and countries that have opened my eyes to different backgrounds. Faculty and other students are helpful in several ways. I do not think I have ever met anyone in the past two years I have been here that was not willing to help me find my way or answer a question. No one has ever been rude or disrespectful. I am glad I chose UGA over other colleges. I would not want to be anywhere else.
Bang for the buck Classes are difficult at Georgia; however, the courses prepare you the way they should. They offer academic assistance and that comes in handy for more time-consuming courses. The financial aid department has always been helpful, and the computer systems are super quick. Faculty and staff respond to your questions from phone calls and e-mails almost immediately.
Tips for prospective students I would study in high school and take as many difficult and time-consuming classes as possible. I never had to study much in high school, but I had to learn how to quickly. Even if some classes do not require attendance, you will fall behind quick. In some lectures, every lecture is important to attend. Because of the intensity of courses, you do not want to fall behind. Make sure you get ahead if you can, and I would but a planner. I did not think I needed one, but I realized that there was no way to remember everything I needed to. Planners are given to students for free with school information located inside of them. Save money and talk to other students with the major you are looking into to help you figure out what you need to do before you get there. PLAN AHEAD!! Trust me, you will save time and a lot of worrying and stress.
Great for these types of students It is great for any type of student. I have met people of all kinds from different cultures, religions, countries, and states that will help you communicate with different type of people later on in life. UGA offers programs for any student, and I have never heard anyone say that they have disliked the school, the community, or other students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Although most intro classes are large (300+), the teachers are for the most part very friendly and available during office hours and for any additional meetings. All of the professors and grad assistants are very knowledgeable.
Am enjoying being here Athens is a great college town. There is something to do for everyone, whether you are into the party scene or not. Day and night, there are great restaurants and stores to visit. For those who like a little night life, the bars and clubs downtown are a great way to meet people and just relax after a long day of classes. The campus is beautiful and kept up very well.
Bang for the buck Whether you are in state or out of state, UGA is definitely worth the price of tuition. You will learn a lot and make tons of new friends in the process.
Tips for prospective students When choosing classes and teachers, I would suggest using ratemyprofessor.com or ugakey.com. The latter is specific to UGA and lists all the GPAs from the years they have taught. If you want student opinions, ratemyprofessor is up to date and honest.
During the first week of classes, grab a bus map from any bus and learn the routes, keep it with you all the time. The bus system is a free and easy way to get around, use them.
Most importantly, get involved! You don't have to go greek in order to meet a lot of people, but it is definitely one option to get involved and gain a tight knit set of group inside this large school. It can feel overwhelming sometimes. There are also many volunteer and community organizations with information meetings all the time.Great for these types of students Students who want something different from high school. Like a lot of people and are disciplined to learn instead of going out all of the time.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot We get a rep for being a huge party school, but that's only partially true. Personally, I am a science major, pre-med, and our program is chalk-full of weeder classes. No matter what major you're in, if you don't work, you're instantly on the 5 year track.
Am enjoying being here One word, FOOTBALL. If you're looking at Georgia, I KNOW this is on your mind, and trust me, it's worth it. Football, the downtown scene, and Greek life are all AMAZING at Georgia, but like all good things, moderation is key.
Bang for the buck If you live in-state... this is the place for you. If you can keep HOPE (i.e. actually study and don't blow all your parent's money downtown), you're basically getting a free ride paid for by the lottery.
If you live out-of state, I'm not really sure. Most of my out-of-state friends have loans/scholarships/trust funds, but the don't really complain about the money that much.Tips for prospective students Take SAT and ACT. SAT measures how you think and ACT measures what you know. So if you do well on tests you can study for, take the ACT, and if you just test well, take the SAT, but UGA accepts both, so you should take both and see where you're best.
Take honors and AP classes if you can handle them. If you can't, DON'T (there's nothing worse than killing your GPA for nothing). UGA has gotten more and more competitive over the years, so if you get denied but are still stuck on it, make plans to transfer in. MANY people transfer into UGA after their first 30 hours of school and admissions requirements are less intense for transfers.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UGA provides the opportunity, especially for incoming freshman with hours on their side, to take classes that are intriguing and that otherwise you wouldn't be able to take. This gives you a chance to learn about something entirely different from you (intended) major and explore all the possibilities.
Am enjoying being here 100%. Athens is an awesome town to live in! There are consistently things to do for anyone and everyone, no matter what you like to be apart of. From sororities and fraternities to religious organizations to volunteer groups and clubs there is definitely something for everyone.
Bang for the buck UGA is not as cheap as it may appear at first glance, there are a lot of hidden fees and requirements, but it is definitely worth the money. UGA provides a health center, gym, transit, and Wi-Fi for all students (this is what your fee money covers) as well as student events and much more! The slight cost in fees etc. is well worth what you get out of the uses for the fees.
Tips for prospective students Apply Early! UGA has an excellent early admission program, with many incentives, such as earlier housing selection, it is a definite plus. Maintain a good GPA! Although UGA will tell you a GPA isn't everything, and it isn't, it will help out tremendously, especially if you lack in other important areas like test scores or extracurriculars. AP classes are worth it! The more AP classes you take, and pass the AP test for, the more hours you will come into UGA with, which allows you more room for things like a minor or double major; but DON'T take more than you can handle because that will compromise your GPA.
Great for these types of students One of the great things about UGA is that it's great for many different groups of people. One of the major qualities you need to have, or be able to quickly adjust to have, is independence. UGA requires all freshman to live on campus, which means at least a week at a time without mom and dad. It also helps for those with good self-motivation, you will often times find yourself sitting in your dorm room with the option of getting online, watching TV, or studying; you then must choose studying on your own or suffer the consequences. UGA is also a large school with over 33,000 students, which doesn't mean it's impossible to make friends, it just gives you a much larger chance of meeting someone you'll click with, so it helps to enjoy meeting new people and making new friends quickly. The more people you know, the smaller the school will seem.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a lot academic wise, but have learned more about life. I know I was some people's first black friend and coming from an all black high school I learned a lot about how other people party and do things. If your willing to listen you'll learn so much. My advice is don't knock it till you try it because it might just help you have a success college career.
Am enjoying being here The University of Georgia is never dull. Theres always something to do every night of the week, it could be a frat party, a house party, or just the regular trip downtown( Which you new students will find out about when you get here). Speaking from a guys point of view the males will really enjoy themselves here for the simple fact that females out number us like 4 to 1. I really enjoy the freedom more than anything I can leave my room anytime and do whatever I want with out anyone asking questions and the food is great(some may disagree). Usually if you like it UGA has it. There is even a club for harry Potter fans who play Quidditch and have tournaments in one of the quads. So You will find something you enjoy doing here just keep your ears and eyes open.
Bang for the buck UGA is not cheap, but The things they have for us like Dawgs After Dark has so much free stuff, like build-a-bear, lazer tag, and mechanical bull rides that kinda makes up for it. They also give you countless resources when it comes to finding jobs and internships and the dorms are usually nice and well kept, but other than that you may feel a little cheated out of money.
Tips for prospective students IF IT DOES NOT APPLY TO YOUR MAJOR TO NOT TAKE!!! For example if science is not your major and you don't have to take a science don't! If you do don't feel you have to take the most difficult science class to prove something, just take ecology and get it over with. Also do your homework research your professors on the uga key and rate your professor, there's no need to take a class with a professor thats just going to aggravate you. You will also need to learn the bus schedule it'll make getting around so much easier and quicker especially in august when its WAY TOO HOT to walk anywhere. For those who are concerned about keeping HOPE, I would suggest taking the easiest load of classes you know you can get As in your first semester. Its better to start off with that 4.0 so even if you screw up you'll still be good. There are some classes that are easy A's like ECHD and while they may not do anything for your major they rarely take up any of your free time outside of class. Oh and don't go out and buy your books as soon as school starts because some professors will tell you you can a get a cheaper version or that you don't even need the book for class. One more thing Do not deprive yourself of sleep during finals I've seen people pass out on the floor in the dining halls because they've pushed them selves too hard. A good nights sleep will help you better than eight hours of studying with no break.
Great for these types of students If you don't mind big class sizes, lots of people, lots of CRAZY people, lots of CRAZY DRUNK people(mostly on game days), lots of walking( unless you just wanna be lazy and ride the bus everywhere), people with outrageous views on society, and a school with top notch facilities and TOP NOTCH PARTIES, than you are the type of student that will defiantly love UGA!!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As an art major, I can easily say that I have learned more here than I have in any of my high school classes combined. The professors truley care about the students and take time to talk with you one on one about your progress. When I first came here I wasn't sure if I had the talent to pursue a career in the arts, but my professors have given me the confidence and skills to pursue art with a passion. Even my classes that are not affiliated with art (such as english) have really allowed me to grow.
Am enjoying being here Athens has such a great atmosphere. There are so many places to visit downtown. Some of the best are resturants called Little Italy, which has amazing pizza, and the Grill which is an old diner and is open 24 hours a day. There are also SO many great boutiques to shop at downtown. Of course game weekends are great! It is awesome seeing so many people come support our football team. There are plenty of activities that the University hosts. The best are called Dawgs After Dark events which are usually based off certain themes. Some of the themes have been casino night, candy land, and even a carnival. Tons of students go to these events, and the best part is that they are FREE to students! Needless to say, there are plenty of things to do around campus....oh and we were rated the #1 party school of the year too ;]
Bang for the buck Of course any college is going to be expensive. The plus side of going to a university in Georgia is that the HOPE scholarship pays for tuition for students who maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. But besides that the main advice I can give about saving money is to just go on the 5 day meal plan over the 7 day. This will save a little money. You also may want to consider not bringing a car. Parking is a bit expensive, but the bus system is so good that you can easily get by without a car. These are really the only large expenses.
Tips for prospective students The biggest tip I can give is to have an idea of what you want to go into before you start your classes. You have about a semester to decide what you want to pursue, but after that you will be adding additional semesters to your time here. I would also recomend getting as many AP credits as possible, they really do help in cutting down the classes that you need to take. Another important thing to do before you register for classes is to take a look at ratemyprofessor.com. There you can see which professors students prefer. It can be a really helpful tool. The first semester I wouldn't recommend taking any more than 15 hours of classes. Once you are here the first week is amazing! Make sure you are friendly and open to meeting a lot of people because thats when I met most of the people im friends with now! And most of all HAVE FUN! IT will be some of the most fun you will ever have in your life.
Great for these types of students UGA is great for students who are very social and open to meeting other life-long friends. It has a great art program, so anyone who is interested in the arts will be successful. The buissiness school is also very well-known.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At UGA, a student learns not only academic material, but about themselves and the community. I have definitely grown as a person in only the one year I have attended. The academics are rigorous, but they prepare you well for whatever career you are planning. In addition, there are endless opportunities, whether they are majors or just programs to join. The student organizations teach a lot about the community, and made me grow as a person. I now find myself searching for ways to better the community because of what I learned in these organizations.
Am enjoying being here First off, UGA was rated the number one party school in the nation. This should automatically inform people that it is fun. In addition to parties, there are numerous other events that are a blast, including free concerts with artists like Ludacris, B.O.B., and T-Pain, and free carnivals like Dawgs After Dark. Sports are also huge here, as UGA is a division one college in the extremely competitive SEC. Football and basketball games are a blast. Also, definitely join a fraternity or sorority upon coming here. It will open up opportunities to have a much better college experience. The dining is also great, as there are multiple dining halls with awesome food, including one that stays open 24 hours!
Bang for the buck UGA might be a bit expensive, but with the HOPE scholarship (for Georgia residents) added on to the endless other financial aid opportunities, students do not end up paying that much. Also, it was ranked as the 5th best value school by the Princeton Review. Honestly, I can not even put a price tag on the experiences I've had here and the lifelong friends that I have made, so students definitely get the bang for the buck.
Tips for prospective students UGA is actually not as competitive as many say, but apply early and take as many AP classes as possible. These will help distinguish you from other students with similar grades. Also, take the SAT/ACT at least twice. The average GPA of incoming freshmen in 2009 was a 3.8 and the average SAT score was a 1263 without the writing part. Finally, extracurricular activities are important, but not entirely. I'll give my situation as an example. I had an unweighted GPA of 3.93 and an SAT of 1260. I played football for one year and didn't do much else extracurricular. I also applied the day of the deadline. Somehow, I still got in. The admissions board is somewhat random with who they admit and deny, but doing what I said above helps your chances.
Great for these types of students Everyone. Except Florida fans :p

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot at UGA about myself, the world, and intellectual pursuits. Moving away from home and living on campus has been one of the most liberating and beneficial experiences of my life thus far. I have learned how to be a responsible adult, as well as how to socialize, have fun, and make friends with the diverse group of people that attend the University of Georgia.
I am learning how to better manage my time, balance my responsibilities, and take control of my own future.Am enjoying being here I absolutely love attending UGA. Between the teachers, beautiful buildings and resources, and the varied group of students that I am able to talk to, I am always busy with something I enjoy doing. The wide variety of courses available means that I get to take what I want to take, when I want to take it, and I feel like I am not only paying for an education, but also enjoyment and fulfillment.
The open campus is not so fun on rainy days, but know you'll always be around someone with an umbrella who may be willing to share.
The proximity to downtown Athens is also a plus. Athens offers a quirky and endearing music scene, as well as a lot of places to relax.
Regardless of what kind of crowd you identify with, there is something here for you. Being in a big university with a small town feel gives me the best of both words.
The registration process is also very easy here, and the advising staff is wonderful.
The people at the Study Abroad office and Office of International Education are also amazingly helpful. If you want to study abroad, UGA is a great place to do it. There are tons of UGA and Non-UGA programs available to you, and HOPE will likely cover a portion if not all of your tuition.Bang for the buck Considering the size, location, and facilities that UGA has to offer, I considering going here an extremely smart financial decision. If you are able to get and maintain HOPE scholarship, your time here will be a breeze. The people in the financial aid office are extremely helpful and nice, and loans and scholarships are readily available to those who need them.
The Oasis computer system at UGA makes it easy to see your HOPE/Aid awards at any time, and will never leave you in the dark.Tips for prospective students Apply early and make sure all of your paperwork has gotten in on time. If you need to call to make sure, don't hesitate to do so. The faculty at UGA is extremely nice, and will always be willing to help you with any questions or requests that you may have.
Visit UGA and take a tour. Get a vibe for the university and the people here. UGA is absolutely beautiful in the fall, and be sure to walk around for yourself a bit even if you do take a tour. Seeing UGA during class change is a really cool experience. Also check out the awesome facilities; the SLC and Tate center are completely dedicated to the needs of the students and are open nearly whenever you need them.
Talk to current students and ask them any specific questions you may have. People will have many different opinions, and hearing a variety of experiences will likely give you a broader perspective on what kind of expectations you should have.
Take the SAT/ACT until you feel satisfied with your score. You may regret not taking it if you don't get accepted to the college you want, but you won't regret taking it multiple times once you're comfortably enrolled in the college of your choice.
Check out the UGA abroad programs if you're interested. UGA has many abroad opportunities available for students of all majors and ages.Great for these types of students Students who like being surrounded by a diverse crowd of people, but who also like the the comfort of living in a small community or dorm. As I've said, UGA is great for students who want to travel abroad, but also for students who want to stay a bit closer to home. UGA offers a huge variety of courses and majors/minors, and many extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, Greek life, and philanthropic organizations.
The downtown scene is also great for students who like to go out to hear a great band or grab some good food.
The first year live on requirement means that students have to live on campus their first year. This makes UGA a great school for students who are looking to move out and create their own space and independence.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the university of georgia is a great place to attend college! there are so many clubs, teams, and fraternities to join that make fitting in to such a large school much easier. also, athens alone is an amazing town full of so many different types of establishments that you will never get bored.
Tips for prospective students definitely join some club, sorority or fraternity, sports team, anything! it can be overwhelming to come from a smaller high school to such a large university, and becoming a part of a team freshmen year can really help you adjust. also, utilize the career center immediately! i didn't start going there for help until my junior year, and i definitely could have used it sooner!
Academic Rigor there are definitely some difficult classes here at uga. these are also usually the ones you are required to have for your major, namely chemistry, physics, accounting, etc. go to tutoring and study hard for these so you can pass the first time, and don't overload your schedule in a semester when you have a hard class. instead, take your electives at the same time. uga has tons of easy elective classes you can take, and many are pretty interesting.
Dorm Life its a dorm, they arent going to be great. avoid brumby by applying for housing as early as possible, because its all girls and very crowded. i would suggest aiming for russell hall or creswell, which are coed by floors and everyone i know that lived in these dorms met a lot of people there.
Food and Dining freshman year you definitely need to be on the meal plan, and it is wonderful! four dining halls with different food selections, one of which stays open all night during the week. around athens, there are so many unique restaurants to try, you can go somewhere new every sunday when dining halls close early, and still have places to try sophomore year!
What to do for fun if you have heard anything about athens, its probably that the bar scene is insane! there are about 100 bars located within, roughly four blocks of each other. for those of us who dont drink, uga often has dawgs after dark events which are always tons of fun with unique activites to participate in until late hours of the night.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a superstition on campus that if you walk under the arches before you graduate, you wont graduate. so walk around!!
Campus Safety assuming you do go downtown, there are many cabs, but you should never get in one without a group. a much safer ride home is to call designated dawgs, which is a group that students volunteer to help out, and drive other students to or from downtown. this is free, and if youre ever needing volunteer credit while at uga, a great way to help out fellow classmates!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It depends a lot on the type of classes you take. There are quite a few general requirements, and when you have a semester-full of only those, they pass by slowly and without you learning much (or at least not learning the stuff you want to). Get started on classes specific to your major, if you can, to spice up your schedule, and you’ll feel like you’re learning a lot more. Also, this gives you the chance to test out your major to see if you like it, and if you start off like this, it gives you plenty of time to change your mind.
Am enjoying being here Yes, definitely! There’s just so much going on here, all the time. The food’s fantastic and easily accessible (four dining halls, spaced all around campus, and cafés and restaurants are close by classes), there’s literally a club for every type of person, opportunities for on-campus jobs, so many study rooms, events sponsored by interest groups and businesses. There are carnivals, parties, lots of Greek and club-sponsored events (haunted houses, cultural nights). There’ve been corn mazes and zumba nights. There’s a massive gym open to all students.
Bang for the buck UGA’s been rated pretty high for this, and it’s true. It’s a public school, so the tuition’s lower (and for in-state students, HOPE is applicable), but there isn’t a single thing you miss out on. Teachers are still highly qualified and although the general requirement classes can get pretty big, mostly classes are quite small (both things people choose private schools for, but UGA has them).
Tips for prospective students You’ve probably heard this a million and a half times, but seriously, take AP classes, as many as you can handle. Not only will they look promising on your admission application, they also knock out general requirement hours, which means you can get right to major-specific classes.
Apply early—it’s a lot less work on your part, and it’s a relief to already know by December whether you’ve been accepted or not. If you want to apply for Honors, do that early as well; it’s much harder keeping the required GPA for first-year Honors admission.
Also, work on time management in high school. And when you get to college, don’t risk cramming all the information in the night before an exam. It usually works in high school, but when there are only three or four exams in a college class, there’s a lot more material on tests, and it’s not a good idea to risk it.
Work on getting involved! UGA has activity fairs, where clubs set up stands outside—go check them out. There are career fairs, too—even if you’re not looking for a career now, it’s a good idea to check those out, too, so when you are looking for a job, you’ve had plenty of experience selling yourself.Great for these types of students UGA’s fantastic, but it is a huge school, so if you’re not looking for that, then it’s probably not the place for you. That said, it’s not totally impersonal—it’s easy meeting new people (hallmates, people in your smaller classes), and clubs help the school seem much smaller.
It’s a good place if you have a variety of interests (lots and lots of clubs/extracurriculars), or if you’re not really sure what you want to do. There are so many majors here, and changing majors is ridiculously easy, so you have plenty of room to change your mind.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of my professors here at Georgia are very knowledgeable about their subject that they teach and they do a very good job of explaining things to their students in class. I actually enjoyed most of my classes this semester and I feel that I have learned a lot from my professors.
Am enjoying being here Originally I did not want to attend Georgia because I was more interested in Georgia Tech. When I didn't get in to GT, UGA became my next option and I planned to stay here for one year until I transferred. As I have spent more time here I have found that I actually like it here. UGA has a really beautiful campus, especially in the fall when all of the leaves change colors, and there is always something fun happening on campus that you can go do. The dining halls here have much better food than some of the other dining halls I've visited at other colleges, and there is usually plenty of seating available in them which is nice. I have also found that having a single room is very nice because it gives me more space and I don't have to worry about working around a roommate's schedule, and UGA has some single rooms available that don't cost that much more than most double rooms.
Bang for the buck College isn't cheap anywhere, but as far as Georgia's prices go, in-state tuition is not that bad compared to some other schools. The classes are also relatively small, aside from general science classes, and most of the classes I took had about 20-40 people in them. There is also free tutoring available in the Miller Learning Center on campus and all of the professors are willing to meet with students during their office hour if they need extra help. Overall, considering the relatively small class size and availability of help I would say that UGA offers a lot of bang for the buck.
Tips for prospective students Take the ACT and SAT as many times as you can during high school because admission everywhere is becoming more competitive. It will also help you get scholarships which you will find extremely important once you see how fast money runs out and how expensive books are.
Great for these types of students The University of Georgia is great for all types of students. There is so much to do on campus and there are so many types of majors and classes available, that all students can find UGA to be a good fit for them.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot When I first arrived, I thought that it would be just another school. But I was wrong. There are so many types of people that I never thought I would meet. You not only learn academics, but you learn how to interact with a variety of people and professors.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere and the living arrangements are amazing (for a dorm life that is).
Bang for the buck Don't let its reputation as a party school stop you from coming. It's one of the best public universities in the US! There are lots of research opportunities and everyone contributes to make it what it is today.
Tips for prospective students Always take the initiative to talk to professors and classmates. They may seem aloof, but they're just scared too! Always take the opportunities at hand. They may just come around once.
Great for these types of students UGA is for EVERYONE!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I just completed my first semester at UGA, and I have learned a lot not only academically, but about myself and the paths I want to go down, as well as other people and the world around me. The classes are wonderful, and I love the honors program. The people I have met are amazing and will be lifelong friends. I have learned a lot about what I want from people and from school. I am in the Redcoats, and the people in the band are awesome, too. I’ve learned in one semester that I want to pursue a different major than my original intention, psychology, and also that I may pursue a minor in African studies. The professors are awesome, and I love the school.
Am enjoying being here Being at UGA isn't just an awesome academic experience. I have met some amazing people, and I love hanging out with my friends. UGA isn't all about school. It's about the friendships that will continue past graduation. I have learned a lot about who and what I find joy in, and I hope that everyone can do the same.
Bang for the buck UGA is expensive, but it's an amazing school. It's challenging, but it's worth every second and every penny spent on it.
Tips for prospective students The admissions board really looks at standardized tests. Take them as many times as you can. You might even get a scholarship! Take as many AP classes as you can handle, but don't kill yourself over them. Keep your grades up, and don't slack off TOO much senior year. It's well worth any time you spend on school during high school.
Great for these types of students UGA is awesome for anyone who likes a big campus and lots of people, but don't get overwhelmed if that's not you! It's easy to make UGA a small place by getting involved and by making friends. UGA is so beautiful, and even when you get overwhelmed, it's easy to just go to north campus and enjoy the beauty. There are so many aspects of the university, and it's a great place for almost anyone!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University Of Georgia is a great school to attend if you value the quality of your education. The professors will really take the time to make sure that you understand the information taught in the class. A lot of learning also takes place outside of the classroom. There are many organizations on campus where you can learn about different people, cultures, and even discover new things about yourself. There are endless possibilities for gaining new knowledge at the University of Georgia.
Am enjoying being here I love being in Athens. There are many things to do. Game days at the best. You have a lot of fans in one place cheering on the dogs as the tee up between the hedges. There is also a lot of culture to be discovered downtown Athens. There are many restaurants and stores that offer a taste of many different cultures. Athens is a place to meet all kinds of people and have a lot of fun. It's really a place for everyone.
Bang for the buck The money you pay to go to UGA is worth it. You meet a lot of nice and friendly people, make new friends, have a lot of fun, and get the education you deserve.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering this school you should definitely come. This is a school for people who value their education, like having fun, and meeting new people. There isn't anything that UGA or Athens can't offer you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a ton. Most of the professors are very approachable and very nice, however when it comes to the Chemistry department, beware. When they say that Chemistry is a weed-out class they are being serious. Our class dropped from 300 students to 150 by the end of the semester. Overall it is a great university and totally worth the time and money.
Am enjoying being here The campus life at UGA is great, I am currently living in a residence hall and I love it. Each floor is like a tight-knit family. There is plenty to do, such as the gym a.k.a the Ramsey Center. In this facility there is everything from Racquetball Courts to Table Tennis. The food is also amazing, there is a great variety and very delicious. Outside of the campus there is also many places to have fun and plenty of places to have your own adventures throughout your college career.
Bang for the buck The tuition for UGA is very do-able. I am one of two college students and my sister attends a private college and we are still able to afford the tuition. If you have the opportunity to obtain the HOPE scholarship or grant, do so. It cut the cost of going to UGA in half. Tuition usually runs about $5,000 and totally worth it.
Tips for prospective students Go in with a focused mindset, the slightest hint of complacency will come back to haunt you. Also the first week of school go out of your way to make friends with the other residence in your hall, it'll be worth the effort and an opportunity to make life-long friends.
Great for these types of students Great for the outgoing and focused students who don't mind being a number. Good for the semi-reserved students who are willing to work as hard as they need to in order to achieve a good grade.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love to learn new things, especially when I am really interested in the subject. Some of my professors have been phenomenal, and I have learned so much in such a short time and have excelled in those classes. Some of my prerequisite classes, especially english, seem unnecessary because I have not improved my writing or learned anything. A PHD candidate, my professor cared more about talking about herself and her life's accomplishments than asking for our input or giving assignments to strengthen our english skills. I had better english classes in high school. As for my other classes, the professors are prepared, thorough and seem to really care about their students! A mixed review.
Am enjoying being here Football and sports are a huge part of the UGA experience. If you are a football fanatic, you will fit right in at UGA, but if you do not care about football, you may not feel as connected to the student body. Greek life is a large part of the party scene and social scene at UGA...Personally, I do not enjoy football or the Greek scene so I have had some difficulties finding my place. Many freshman I have met are so concerned with drama, partying and fitting in. Finding diversity of personalities, activities and viewpoints in people is challenging. I have never felt a strong connection to Georgia and to the South. UGA is definitely a classic southern school and with that comes people with all the qualities of the South. My favorite memories of my time at UGA would definitely be the music scene. I have been to a Rebelution/Tribal Seeds concert downtown and also seen the Five Browns perform at the UGA music center. Both were amazing performances that have made my stay at UGA memorable!
Bang for the buck As a resident of Georgia, I have the HOPE scholarship. Paying for tuition, the scholarship has helped tremendously in paying for UGA. The campus is beautiful, programs are excellent, downtown is entertaining and the dining halls and workout complex awesome! One of the biggest pros of UGA is the cost.
Tips for prospective students Do not steal food from the dining hall...you will most likely get caught. Do not bring too much stuff to fit into your dorm room...you will collect many things throughout the semester. If you are bringing a bike, be prepared for the hills and the wild bus drivers! Many people absolutely love UGA. The school is so large that each social group is represented. Get involved in campus life and be friendly towards everyone!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Being a student who was hell bent on attending a private university, I was very skeptical on the quality of education I would receive in a public school. However, as a current sophomore Microbiology major, I find myself challenged everyday. Many of the professors in all fields of studies will seem unfair and hard at first but it is all a method to get you to think critically and solve problems in new and creative ways. Once you adjust to the difficulty of college in general, you will find there is much to learn, even in the classes you thought would not be useful
Am enjoying being here Athens is the epitome of a great college town. It is cozy town with a great night life. Though its reputation as the #1 party school precedes it, UGA is fun even for those not into the night life. The campus, itself, hosts many events on campus, most of which are free (like free concerts). Also, as the largest state school in Georgia, there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people and create your own fun. It is also a great school for sport lovers. Many students enjoy going to football, basketball and gymnastics just to name a few.
Bang for the buck As a resident of Georgia, you become eligible for the HOPE scholarship. This scholarship will pay for tuition and book fees for 120 credit hours (approximately 4 years). Basically you can get a great education for only the cost of room and board each year.
As an out of state student, tuition is higher. However, it is much cheaper to study abroad as an out of state student then actually attend the Athens campus. Many out of state students choose to study abroad for all there years of study.Tips for prospective students The University of Georgia is becoming increasingly competitive every year. They greatly emphasize challenging courses (ex: honors, gifted, and AP level). Tip: admission office suggested to my high school to take at least 3 AP classes, however that was 4 years ago and now it may be in your best interest to raise that minimum.
Things like high SAT and ACT scores are important. GPA is also weighed heavily. The most important thing they value is RIGOR OF CLASSES and EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. They want to see if you can handle difficult classes while finding time to do other things. College is all about TIME MANAGEMENT and the admission office will be looking for students who can display that they have this quality.Great for these types of students Students who want a challenging curriculum.
Students interested in night life.
Students who don't want a small school.
Students who love sports.
Students in search of a great college town.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot With a nearly endless list of classes and programs here, it is impossible not to learn what you are most interested in. The professors are extremely cooperative and open to private meetings regarding your specific education. They are quite lenient when it comes to office hours, scheduling times that suit your schedule. I have found that with the extensive resources the University of Georgia provides, it is hard not to get a great education.
Am enjoying being here Though moving away from home was a difficult feat, living independently is extremely beneficial when it comes to creating a life for yourself. With so many new people coming from all over the world, establishing friendships that will last forever is easy. There are literally hundreds of activities available everyday at the University of Georgia, opening the doors to countless opportunities. The campus is beautiful and rather mountainous, which is also tremendously helpful when battling the infamous freshman 15!
Bang for the buck Like any major college, the University of Georgia is not very friendly on you or your parents' wallets, but I can confidently say that it is worth every penny. The education and experience you gain from this school is worth far more than simple dollars and cents. In this economy, finding a job will be a lot easier with a college degree, so in the long run, the amount of money spent now can secure you a successful life in the future.
Tips for prospective students Come to college with a positive attitude! Fretting or hesitating can only make the situation more stressful, so remember that college is a wonderful opportunity that many people do not get to experience, and make the best of your time at the University of Georgia. I was fortunate enough to come here having completed 9 credit hours which was an immense help when establishing my schedule of classes. Keep up with your AP classes! Not only will they better prepare you for college curriculum, but they also save you literally thousands of dollars! Establish good relationships with the administrators at your school - you never know when you might need a good letter of recommendation, they are very helpful. When applying, be confident in yourself. Pretend that the University is requesting you, as opposed to you requesting to go there. They are interested in people who are sure of themselves and know that they will succeed and give the school a good name. Manage your time wisely. Maintaining a balance between work and play is crucial to succeeding in college and make a world of difference when the time comes to attend a competitive university.
Great for these types of students The University of Georgia is a place where everyone is given the potential to be or do whatever they want in this world. With an impressive 34,000+ students, it is easy to find your niche, as long as you are willing to put yourself out there and meet new people. Anyone with a hunger for a great education and an unforgettable college experience should consider the University of Georgia, as it offers both.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot A good thing about college is that you basically create your own schedule. You know the classes that you need to take for your degree and you can take them whenever you want during a certain time frame. All of the professors that I have had have been very helpful. The quality of the material taught is very good and I am learning a lot. As a student you need to be very responsible by making sure you go to class, read the material, do the homework, and basically just study. That is the way that has been the most beneficial for me to learn. The professors are usually very helpful outside of class, so that also has helped me learn more.
Am enjoying being here I am really enjoying being here on campus because there are so many things to do and opportunities to get involved in. If you like sports, then you will definitely be good here. The student tickets are very reasonably priced compared to regular tickets. There are even some sporting events where student tickets are free, such as baseball games. All of the sporting events have been very fun to go to. There are numerous activities to get involved in such as intramural sports, sororities/fraternities, church organization, student government etc. There are so many things to try out that I feel sure that you will find something that you really enjoy doing. Even though freshmen are required to live in the dorms, it really is a good experience because you meet so many new friends.
Bang for the buck If you are a resident of Georgia, it is great because you don't have to pay tuition. There are some other fees that you do have to pay for, but for the most part I do use the facilities that those fees support.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest trying new things. Find a group that you really enjoy and really get involved with those activities, but do not forget about school because your GPA can drop quickly! When it comes to schoolwork be as studious as necessary and you should be able to make good grades. Meet your professors. Sometimes professors who teach 200 students in one class can't learn every one's name and face, so I would suggest introducing yourself. If you need help go to their office hours and I'm sure they will help you the best that they can.
Great for these types of students Great for people who want to meet a lot of new people. There really is something for everyone, church groups, sports, clubs, etc. There are small class sizes and large class sizes.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I would give the University of Georgia 4 out of 5 stars. The education that students receive is outstanding but the scholarship chances for out of state students are not available
Tips for prospective students Keeping your grades up is a must! Also take several visits to the school if you can so you can take your time viewing the campus, dorms and study areas. Finally future students should look out for hidden costs such as laundry fees, event tickets, and educational fees
Academic Rigor The academic expectations at UGA are super high so if you don't have a good work ethic coming out of high school, develop one! At UGA you will work harder than you ever have before to get a A
Dorm Life ECV is really great! It is a mixture of out of state, in state, athletes and more! You can live here at all class rankings but if you can try to live in Rooker Hall. All the events happen in this building and its easy to get your mail. Don't live in Creswell or Reed halls, they have a rat infestation
Food and Dining Food services is really great! Snelling hall is open 24 hours a day for 4 days out of the week. There are 4 different places to eat of campus so you have many options. They also have special dinners at least once a month from Beach day, to New Orleans food fest, and Superbowl Sunday dinner just to name a few
What to do for fun BARS! BARS! BARS! And oh yeah more BARS! Athens has the best downtown compared to where I have been. There are also a lot of clubs for 18 and up. And also Dawgs After Dark is a fun event that the school throws for student and the themes are Carnival and 90s after dark just to name a few
Bang for the buck For out of state students RIDICULOUS! I mean UGA is good but it is not worth what you have to pay for it. For in state students, well I don't know what you really are complaining about.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Nothing really is out of order on this campus. UGA is honestly to corny to be unusual
Great for these types of students UGA is great for students that are intellectual, foreign students and students that are looking to be challenged in a new environment. Students that are not willing to work hard need not apply
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of sororities and fraternities, clubs for every single ethnic background, club sports, and an outstanding recreational facility
Greek Life Again Greek Life is awesome! There are Traditionally white and historically black Greek organizations, multicultural Greek life, honors fraternities, and band Greek life
Campus Safety I literally feel to safe on UGA'S campus sometimes! The campus police are always around if you need them and I have never been scared walking home late at night from the library. Also if there is a problem on campus then they are there right away to fix it

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is an established and well-known University with high academic rigor.
Many, many, many Majors to choose from.
Even more activities, internships, and co-ops to get involved with.Tips for prospective students Don't overload yourself your first year, I would suggest 12-14 hours. Even though advisers may advise to take me to graduate in 4 years ...you may hurt yourself in the long run with a over-zealous first year. Remember a degree that takes 5+ years with a better GPA and better experience is better than a 3-year quick degree with low GPA and no experience.
Also, be sure to take advantage of the math and science tutoring.
Time-Management is KEY.Academic Rigor Intro-level Science classes are always dubbed the weed-out classes.
Must be sure to take advantage of the tutoring.
If you are doing something and think could I be studying or doing HW now? then do it...it probably is a sign that you need to work harder in that subject.
Also, go to classes.Dorm Life High rises are cramped and you share bathrooms with 50+ people. However, these people you become close with...especially in Creswell, Russel, Brumby.
It's great to know people while walking amongst the thousands to class every day!
However, even though the 30,000+ students may seem overwhelming, once you find your niche, it really doesn't seem that big. I had to use my phone GPS the first few months to get to classes...now I can zip there on my bike without second thought.Food and Dining Expensive meal plan. I rarely ate 3 full meals a day, but you pay for that. Go ahead and go with it if you are living on campus first year (a requirement, anyway) it is convenient and a great way to meet up with people.
What to do for fun DOWNTOWN FTW!!!! Well, that's what everybody says atleast...though I go to the #2 party school, I am not one who goes out every weekend, etc. etc. Honestly, I only went to 1 house party and it was alot of fun. Downtown is for some people, but not for all!
What I really enjoyed about Athens was the close proximity to many outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, canoeing (broad river Bid Dogs on the River.) I am an out-doorsey type!
Also, Ramsey fitness center...you could spend hours there...raquetball, swimming, indoor track, 2 full size weight gyms, basketball/indoor soccer courts.)Bang for the buck For less than $20,000 (even lower with HOPE), it is a great school with many opportunities than are unrivaled with smaller state and private schools.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ringing the chapel bell after a victory.
The Trifecta...just ask someone there and you will know about this daring late-night feat.
Not walking through the arch.Great for these types of students Research-interested students.
Students looking for cultural diversity.
Football-loving students.
Outdoor-loving students.
Hipsters.
Party-goers.
*remember...I identify at most with 2-3 of these at any given time...it's a great place even if you don't like football!Clubs and Activities SO MANY ACTIVITIES.
Like really, everyone can find SOMETHING to do here.Greek Life It's big here.
I mean, you can meet people in them and get into more parties with the chance of getting more business contacts post-graduation....but really, there are plenty of people who are not involved with Greek...and have plenty of friends, contacts, opportunities for fun (without paying yearly dues!!)Campus Safety I have walked and rode bikes many a time past 12:00 at night around campus and have seen campus police around and have not ran into any trouble thus far. Be sure to travel in groups if you go downtown or off campus. and LOCK YOUR BIKES.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UGA is one of those schools you hear about while growing up and sounds like a fairytale. The difference between fairytales and this University is that fairytales are too good to be true while UGA delivers on everything you've been told. From the student life to the football games, in the classroom or walking on the street, AdClub to the A Capella singing groups, the University of Georgia is a place where unbelievable stories happen and come to life.
Tips for prospective students Study hard if you want to attend this university. The admission process is not difficult, but due to the school's popularity it is competitive. Take both the SAT and the ACT as many times as possible (only your best scores are seen), join extracurricular activities (shows initiative), become a leader in a club or sport (shows leadership abilities), and be yourself in your admission essays! Ask someone you know who goes to UGA how they feel about the school, or call the university and ask to speak with a student adviser.
Academic Rigor The classes can be challenging, but few are too hard for the average student to pass. Some of the science classes have been known to bring students to tears, but if all else fails, take those at a different school during the summer or hire a tutor! For the most part, free tutoring is available to all students in almost every subject!
Dorm Life The freshman dorms are not completely dreadful, as some former residents would have you believe. Dorm life is what you make it. Spend time with your hall-mates, keep your door open, and keep food in a mini-fridge; and your dorm experience will be great!
Food and Dining The dining halls are a major plus at UGA! Bolton is regarded as the freshman dining hall; Snelling is open 24-hours during the week; O-house is both a dorm building and a dining hall with Hibachi made to order in front of you; and ECV (the dining hall, not the dorms) is known to be the best dining hall, catering to athletes, upper-class men and the occasional lost freshman with classes on East Campus. All four dining halls are phenomenal and will keep you full at all times! At UGA, the Freshman Fifteen is almost unavoidable.
What to do for fun Besides the obvious football games, there are tons of fun things to do on campus! On one Friday night each month, the Student Union hosts Dawgs After Dark which keeps many students entertained without the use of alcohol! Most student organizations hold open meetings, which means you'll never have an excuse not to get involved on campus. Believe it or not, there are even other UGA sports! Most of the home games of non-football sports are free to students or are at a ridiculously low price. If watching sports isn't as entertaining to you as playing, there are dozens of intramural sports teams to play with! Unless you want to do nothing but sit in your room and watch TV, you will have fun at UGA. Heck, even the basic dorm channels are good enough that lounging in your room alone could be considered fun!
Bang for the buck For the money, UGA is a great investment! Many of their programs are ranked high in the country, and the school has been referenced at the Ivy League School of the South (maybe that's just a campus rumor, though). The price is rising to attend the university, but education costs are rising everywhere. Even if you aren't sure UGA is worth the cost for the academics, the environment and atmosphere are definitely worth it. Students at UGA enjoy their time here, and many never want to leave campus. Ask any graduating senior if the money spent at UGA was worth it, and I guarantee the answer will be yes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The ringing of the Chapel Bell is one of the longest-standing traditions on campus. After UGA wins a game, people go to ring the bell. When seniors graduate, they ring the bell. When Organic Chemistry test grades are posted and the average grade is above a fifty, pre-med students ring the bell. There are many other traditions on campus, but the way to know the complete list is to get a G-Book when you arrive on campus as a student. In the free book, there are lists of traditions you should do every year of your college career at UGA.
Great for these types of students UGA is great for all types of students! If you're focused on sports, there are plenty of games to watch and intramural teams to be involved with. If you're into music, there are music clubs and societies. If animals are your thing, join one of the many animal-oriented clubs. Literally, UGA has hundreds of student organizations, so you can definitely find your niche here!
Clubs and Activities UGA has hundreds of student organizations. There are music societies, animal clubs, intramural sports, dance organizations, workout groups, and various other student associations. The best thing about UGA is if you cannot find an organization that fits your needs, you can create your own with the university! The only problem you may find with so many options is the inability to limit yourself from joining all of them!
Greek Life Greek Life at UGA is thriving! Panhellenic sororities host many philanthropy events that involve food, fun, and helping good causes. You don't have to be involved with Greek Life to benefit from it. Any student can go through recruitment for Greek Life, and even those who choose not to be recruited attend their philanthropy events. There are also service sororities and fraternities, as well as religion-based Greek Life organizations on campus. You'll find on campus that no matter if a student is or is not involved in Greek Life, he or she is treated with the same respect given to everyone.
Campus Safety Walking on campus is definitely a safe endeavor. During the daylight or at midnight, campus safety is a top priority to administration. There are not only campus police that patrol the area, but there are also Athens police who are waiting in the wings to aid anyone in need. The most dangerous thing on UGA's campus is the terrain. The hills on campus are killers, so wear your sneakers and bring a bottle of water because walking to class is uphill both ways!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Hard work, but very rewarding. Great social and music scene in downtown Athens. Fairly close to Atlanta.
Tips for prospective students Live in the freshman dorms! You'll meet more people that way. The meal plan is great for your first year there and football games are the best!
Academic Rigor You HAVE to study. One slip up and bye-bye HOPE, but this also depends on you major or what college you're in.
Dorm Life Last year was a little crowded due to overacceptance, but usually the dorms are fairly nice and a kept in good shape. The RA's are all awesome and some of the staff is cool.
Food and Dining The food is really good here. Although like every student on meal plan, you kind of get tired of it regardless. There's 4 dining halls and one is open 24 hours Monday-Thursday.
What to do for fun Downtown Athens, Georgia Theatre, 40 Watt, Twilight, sporting events.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Do not walk under the arch or you won't graduate.
Greek Life Milledge and Greek Park.
Campus Safety I've walked all around campus at all hours and never had a problem.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Georgia is a great university that offers an array of opportunities to find your passion, meet many different individuals, and get an excellent education. The biggest thing that connects all 35,000 students is the pride in the big tradition of SEC football. I would not trade this school for any other.
Tips for prospective students Athens has so many things to offer. However, it is really easy to get caught up in the extracurricular opportunities at the school. I would advise students to get involved and have a good time with their college experience, but at the same time, realize that academics come first to all other activities. Take advantage of the many things offered and get out of your comfort zone by making different types of friends and doing a variety of things.
Academic Rigor Academics are an important concept at the University of Georgia; however, the classes will not consume your life as long as you create a balance. Procrastination is a habit that must be kicked in order to accomplish the best grades at UGA. No one is there to help you get on track and it is hard to get back on track after you have slacked off for quite a while. Cheating is not tolerated at all at UGA. The consequences are severe.
Dorm Life I love living on campus and in a dorm. It is a great way to meet people and it is very convenient with food and classes. All the dorms are within walking distance to every dining hall. The bus system will take you anywhere you need to go on campus in order to get to class. The rooms are small and there are community bathrooms in some dorms, but it is an experience that will teach you a lot.
Food and Dining The food at UGA is very good. By the end of the first semester, the food gets redundant, but a good alternative is to switch up meals. The dining halls make it easy to create an type of dish whether it be chicken Alfredo or a custom wrap. Each dining hall offers a variety of food and I love it!
What to do for fun There are many things to do in Athens. From the great food downtown at lunch time to the parties at night time. Athens is a small city that allows for big fun. You cannot do much downtown at night if you are not 21, but there are campus activities like Dawgs After Dark that offers an alternative to the party lifestyle often associated with the university. The sports events are also very fun. There are student discounts that give the students' pocket a break! Football is a must-go type of event as well as basketball, soccer, baseball, and many more Division 1 athletics.
Bang for the buck Things in Athens are pretty expensive if you go downtown in order to shop and dine. However, there is a Walmart, a Target, and other common stores within the area that is about 5-10 minutes from campus. Most stores and restaurants have a student discount that makes things really easy for college students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The main tradition at UGA is that no one is to walk under the arch on North Campus. The myth is that any undergrad that walks under there before graduation will not graduate. Another tradition is the bell tower. Anyone can ring the bell whenever something exciting happens or just for fun. Of course, the SEC football tradition cannot be forgotten. GO DAWGS!
I would definitely recommend any spot on North Campus to get away from the hustle and bustle of Athens. The Founder's Garden is very peaceful and has it's own natural fragrance thanks to the always blooming flowers.Great for these types of students UGA is great for students that enjoy being a part of something large. If you are somebody that loves seeing different people everyday, then the University of Georgia is right for you. It may be overwhelming at first, but as you get acclimated the campus seems so small. Even if you find a group of people that you always spend time with, you will never stop meeting somebody new.
Clubs and Activities There are a variety of activities and clubs to get involved in at UGA. There are clubs that correspond with majors and there are clubs are connected to community service. Almost anything can be found at UGA.
Greek Life I think Greek life is a great way to decrease the size of the campus. UGA offers the Panhellenic, National Panhellenic, and Multicultural Greek councils that give anyone the opportunity to chose which type of sorority or fraternity he or she would like to take part in.
Campus Safety I always feel safe on campus. Just avoid walking alone at night and take responsibility of your safety.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Georgia has a spirited campus with many opportunities for students to get involved in service, sports, social activities, and almost anything else imaginable. With a sprawling, beautiful campus, there are endless things to do and see. The University of Georgia is a great choice for a student looking for a large university with endless opportunities.
Tips for prospective students You should really explore your major options, and take classes that you might not ordinarily consider. Sometimes the best classes are the ones you didn't plan to take. Also, get to know your professors. Their contacts will come in handy. Finally, don't slack off Freshman year. You never know when those core classes will come back to haunt you.
Academic Rigor The University of Georgia is renowned for its academic excellence, and it is not for the weak-minded or weak-willed individual. It takes commitment to classes and excellence to do well, but with hard work and the ability to prioritize, it is absolutely possible to succeed.
Dorm Life Some dorms at the University of Georgia are better than others, but there are countless activities and tons of people to meet that will make dorm life exciting and easier to bear. The rooms are small, but if you play it right, you won't be in your room much at all - except to study, of course.
Food and Dining The meal plan and dining halls at UGA are some of the best in the country. Unfortunately, the price and plan options are sub-par. The meal plan is great for freshmen who must live on campus, but it is highly inconvenient if you move off campus. The food and selection is outstanding, one of the dining halls is 24 hours, and they are pretty accessible from most dorms. Bottom line - meal plan and dining halls are great for your first-year, but they are not convenient if you live off campus.
What to do for fun The University of Georgia is located in Athens, Georgia, which is known for its rich history and culture. Athens is home to a variety of artists and music, and there is ALWAYS (I mean ALWAYS) something to do. Concerts are ubiquitous, the sporting events at the University of Georgia are always entertaining, and UGA students often put on shows that involve dancing, acting, and much more. The University of Georgia also has a wonderful athletic center full of opportunities to get in shape or play sports with friends. With racquetball courts, a rockclimbing wall, and basketball courts, it is easy to find ways to kill time and have fun. There is a surplus of intramural opportunities, as well. Basically, if you attend the University of Georgia, you are never bored.
Bang for the buck The University of Georgia is a great institution for a great price, though tuition rates have risen significantly in recent years. It is still a great deal, though the bargain isn't what it used to be.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of the best parts of the University of Georgia is the tradition that flows from North Campus. From the Chapel Bell, which is rung after victories, and even after other University-affiliated successes (successes of alumni), to the famous Arch and its curse for any undergraduate who passes under it, to the centuries-old buildings, North Campus is rich with history that instills pride in all of its students.
Great for these types of students The University of Georgia is a wonderful place for athletic types, intellectual types, activists, and art and music lovers. The University of Georgia has something for everyone.
Clubs and Activities UGA has something for everyone. With over 500 student organizations and clubs, if you have an interest, there's probably a club for it. If there's not, you have the ability to start it with ease! There are activities for anyone and everyone, from sports to service and anthropology to zoology and everything in between, the University of Georgia has an unimaginably wide variety of clubs and activities to involve oneself in.
Greek Life Greek Life is HUGE at the University of Georgia. Many find Greek Life to be a way to connect to other students, have fun, and volunteer. If you are interested in going Greek, The University of Georgia is a great place to be.
Campus Safety The University of Georgia has its own campus police, who are there to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff at all times. That said, one still must use normal caution when traveling at night or by oneself.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Personally, I rate it an astonishing 10 out of 10. The campus is such a vast, but crucial part in order to get to and fro. There is always something to take part in on and around campus.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to map your classes before hand in order to reach your destination in a timely manner. Also, don't be afraid to venture out and do things outside of your comfort zone!
Academic Rigor I would not say that this university is a breeze, but with diligence and lots of studying, the load seems to lighten up.
Dorm Life Depending on where you stay on campus, dorm life can be of great use for those looking to meet fun new comrades.
Food and Dining The dining halls can be a student's best friends, to simply put it. From the award-winning specialties, there is always something for the most diverse population of students.
What to do for fun There is always something to do during one's free time on and around the entire campus. Just ask around to find some of the most entertaining activities to diminish any boredom that may come your way.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Georgia is a fantastic school with many opportunities. Our academics are top notch and our student life is lively and vibrant. UGA is the place to be if you are a people person looking for success in the world ahead of you. Go DAWGS!
Tips for prospective students Get excited about the next chapter of your life! This University has a lot to offer. Take advantage of all the offers given to you.
Academic Rigor Classes here can be extremely difficult; however, if you study hard and use your opportunities (making good use of time, asking questions and forming study groups) then an A is achievable!
Dorm Life Overall UGAs dorms are nice. The Freshmen high-rises aren't the best, but for the little amount of time spent there it really doesn't matter. The freshmen dorms are part of the freshmen experience and actually help bring your class closer together. ECV dorms, or apartment style dorms, are considered the best dorms on campus. Community bathrooms can be scary, but after a while it becomes normal, and I promise, they are not that bad.
Food and Dining UGAs meal plans is one of the very best. From themed dinners to a 24-hour dining hall, there really isn't much else to ask for. You can enter the dining hall at anytime, an unlimited amount of times, and eat as much as you would like. There are four dining halls to choose from, and each one is unique in its own way. A bonus is having Snelling, the 24-hour dining hall. Hungry at 4am? Not to worry, Snelling is there!
What to do for fun Athens and the UGA campus are full of exciting things to do daily. Even though UGAs academic rigor is top tier, you as student will always find something fun to do. With 500+ student organizations, greek life, and Downtown Athens, you really should never be bored. I can list individual ways to have fun, but that list would literally go on for days. Once you get involved around campus, you will find that there is always, always something to do.
Great for these types of students UGA is great if you enjoy being around people, ALL the time! With 30,000+ students you are literally never alone. Unless you choose to be (in your room, behind closed doors).
Clubs and Activities With 500+ student organizations you will find your place. Some of the most popular student organizations include Humans vs. Zombies (a week of battling out, to see who will be the last Human), UGA Heroes (a fund-raising organization for young people with HIV/Aids) and University Union (a group that puts together most of UGAs entertainment such as Homecoming week festivities and Dawgs after Dark).
Campus Safety I really have never felt a reason to worry about my safety on campus. Almost everywhere you go you will see security guards and campus police, making sure that everything is in order.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Georgia is an incredible academic and research institutions offering a wide variety of opportunities for their students both inside and outside the classroom. With time-honored traditions and an affordable institution compared to other in-state programs, UGA will provide unforgettable memories and the basis for successful careers.
Tips for prospective students Though UGA may not be ivy-league, the course loads are challenging and are to be taken seriously. While in Athens, enjoy the community and give back through volunteering your time and getting to know the real Athens.
Dorm Life Dorm life is wonderful and just how you may imagine it in your head. Living on campus your freshman year really puts the cherry on top of the real college experience.
Food and Dining UGA has by far the best meal plan I have seen across the state of GA. Enjoy it while it lasts and always be on the lookout for the fried chicken and double chocolate fudge cookies!
What to do for fun Athens has something for everyone. Don't be afraid to try out new hobbies or activities either, you never know what you might end up loving.
Bang for the buck The best affordable investment, especially for those GA residents. Try and get the HOPE scholarship if you can and try to keep it all 4 years.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus As many know, don't walk under the arch and always participate in the football game craziness.
Great for these types of students UGA is great for all types of students, but you have to be willing to go to a big SEC school and appreciate all the Southeast has to offer. College is what you make it, so make it your own.
Clubs and Activities From dancing to Harry Potter fan clubs, UGA has it all.
Greek Life I have heard a lot of different opinions about greek life, but with so many people on campus, if you don't take a trip down greek row, you won't be missing too much.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Get involved! It is a huge campus so it can feel overwhelming at first. Everyone wants to help you and make your time at UGA fun and worthwhile.
Academic Rigor Definitely have to keep up with your work. Some of the larger lectures don't require you to go to class but it is a good idea because sometimes power point slides are not posted.
Dorm Life I lived in Brumby, an all girls freshman dorm. The only problem other than being on top of a hill was the inability to control your room temperature. It was always extremely hot! Always felt safe and the security is good.
Food and Dining Not as good as a home cooked meal but there are four dining halls so there are plenty of options.
What to do for fun Football games, downtown shopping, inter-mural sports
Bang for the buck School wise the cost is worth it. The dorm and meal plan fees are a bit outrageous but you are required to have them first semester. Living off campus is a lot cheaper.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ringing the chapel bell. Snellebrate late night dining at the 24/7 dining hall.
Great for these types of students A lot of school spirit!
Clubs and Activities The CSO website has all the clubs listed. Always something to do.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The campus at the University of Georgia was enormous and has a lot of history and uniqueness. Students and faculty was very helpful and friendly. I am comfortable in knowing that I will receive a great education because of level of knowledge of the professors there.
Tips for prospective students Fill out your application early and you will not have to do an essay. Keep your grade point average above a 3.8 if possible. Make sure you take AP courses to challenge you and you have a better chance of being accepted.
Academic Rigor Take as many advanced and AP classes as possible without risking your GPA. Study hard for SAT and ACT because you have to score above average to get accepted. It helps to take accelerated foreign languages because of the diversity on campus.
Dorm Life The dorms are superb and i would say better than most that I have seen previously. I like how it is close to where I will work out at as well as dine. I also like how there is dorms with private bedrooms and private baths.
Food and Dining I love the fact that there are so many different places to choose from. I can eat off campus and it is still close to the university. I also, love that there is a dining area that is open 24 hours a day and serves waffles.
What to do for fun There is so much to do for fun here. Play a game of ball or swim to cool off. Hang out with friends or even walk the main strip in downtown Athens. It is also close to downtown Atlanta, so the fun is endless !!!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I feel like UGA provides a good balance of academics and social life that helps create a well-rounded person. The downtown scene allows students to take a break from the stresses of classes, but when it comes to learning UGA provides a challenging environment that forces students to think in a new way. Overall I feel like this school is a good place for any incoming students, and there is always something to do, no matter your interests.
Tips for prospective students Apply for the Honors Program as soon as possible, because you will get smaller classes, better teachers, and the first choice of class schedules each year. Don't forget that once you get accepted, it is time to start learning again. Your senior year of high school is really tough to finish because many people get senioritus. However, you need to hit the ground running with studying because your grades influence everything on campus: when you apply for classes, scholarships, etc.
Also, try to find a job the summer before you start classes, because spots fill up quickly and it is always nice to have some extra income.Academic Rigor The Honors Program allows students to challenge themselves in smaller classes with more rigorous academic standards. These classes allow students to learn in a focused environment that goes more in-depth than the average lecture-style classes.
Dorm Life The dorms here are all being re-done, so most student have their own air-conditioning and remodeled rooms. I have a sibling who goes to a different school, and UGA's worst dorm is better than every dorm at the other university: the walls and floors are in good shape, the romos are bigger, the walls are thicker (less problems with noisy neighbors), and security is SO much better. Also, there is a really good sense of community in the freshman dorms because there are planned events for each dorm where you get to meet all of your neighbors.
Food and Dining From the moment you get on campus, you will hear about the meal plan and how great it is. All of the dining commons are all-you-can-eat buffets, the food is really great quality (no mystery meat here!), and there is a 24-hour dining hall. Sunday brunch is even better, with a chocolate fountain and live music.
With all of these food options, it is important to keep an eye on your health, so the dining halls offer courses on healthy eating and weight management in the real-world.What to do for fun There is really something here for everyone. Personally, I don't care for the party scene downtown. It's there if you want it, and a lot of people love it. There are tons of small shops, clubs, restaurants, and anything else you could be looking for in a college town.
I find myself looking more towards different ways to entertain myself. I like going to the theatre productions and orchestra concerts. The Georgia Museum of Art is always open, and there are all types of galleries downtown.
Sports are also a huge part of the UGA culture. Everyone knows about the football team, and game days are a huge deal. However, a lot of people don't know that we have an AMAZING gymnastics team, and a ton of other sports teams that win championships all the time.Bang for the buck UGA has a low tuition rate for out of state students, and the tuition rate for in state students isn't bad either. If you can get it, the HOPE scholarship is great for covering tuition costs.
Tuition along with the fees give you access to a great campus, faculty, extracurricular, and social activities that will allow you to make the most of your college years.Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At the top of North Campus, there is an arch with three pillars that students can't walk under while attending school. Only after graduation can you walk under. The tradition states that students who walk under the arch early will not graduate within 5 years, and most graduates find a sense of accomplishment walking under the arch.
There are lots of traditions on campus: we actually have a book of traditions that you can look at. If you take pictures of yourself doing all of these traditions, you get a special pin at graduation.Great for these types of students Most students here are really into sports and the downtown party scene. However, there is a large group of students who like to spend their time doing different activities, like myself. There are plenty of things to do, so I wouldn't worry about it if you don't like sports or clubs. With such a huge campus there are bound to be like-minded people around. Getting involved in clubs is a great way to make friends with the same interests.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This university matches all of my tastes. The college town feel is perfect, though it only extends to the end of downtown. I would not have chosen any other college!
Tips for prospective students Take as many AP/IB classes as you can. They pull a ton of weight here.
If you're from a small town without many other people intending to apply, you're good as long as you have at least a 3.3. Otherwise, you need a pretty high GPA. It's competitive.Academic Rigor As a Pre-Pharmacy Biochemistry/Molecular Biology major, my classes are hard as hell. The tests are pretty hard. However, I have friends who are IA and Business majors and they just chill.
Dorm Life I've had the best time in the dorms. I lived in Hill. I made my best friends there and had my best times there. While I'm very happy to be moving into a house, the dorms were fun.
Food and Dining The dining halls are very good, but they have the same food constantly. I can only eat chicken fingers and burritos for so long. Snelling is the best thing that could happen to a student. Though it's not 27/7 as UGA advertises (It's only 24/4, Monday through Thursday), it's still damn good. The crazy delicious doughnuts they have past midnight have been a staple to my freshman year. They had doughnuts like Oreo, cinnamon, and maple!
What to do for fun Downtown is fun most nights of the week. UGA also sets up things like Dawgs After Dark, which is like a festival type thing for the students. Gym Class Heroes and Ralphie Mae came!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a fort in some woods just off of campus. Find it!
Great for these types of students Hipsters, Greeks
Greek Life Some pretty good parties have gone down.

The classes are hard but there is always either a tutoring center or even asking your professor can help. Being here you experience diversity, and a true college experience.
Tips for prospective students Studying after your classes or just reviewing your notes help you stay on track and avoid procrastinating. Have a calender and use your syllabus to mark down all your tests, assignments, projects, etc. for the semester.
Dorm Life Diversity
Food and Dining Great food!
What to do for fun There is Downtown Athens.
Every month they have an event called Dawgs After Dark
There is a a lot to do.Bang for the buck It is worth the money!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences University of Georgia is a wonderful campus and is diverse. There are many options here for everyone but the classes are hard. The science department is extremely difficult.
Tips for prospective students Tips that I have would be to study hard. Students should figure out how to study sooner than later. Do not take college easily because it is nothing like high school. Everything is so much more rigorous.
Academic Rigor The classes are extremely difficult and you cannot just slack off in them. If you do not keep up with your classes, you could fall behind.
Dorm Life The dorms are wonderful. The freshman dorms that they have help you get comfortable when you first get to campus. I live in one of the smaller dorms and it was great because I got to meet everyone quickly and we all became a family.
Food and Dining The dining halls are great. They have a variety of food and you can enter it as many times a day as you would like. I find that great because you can go multiple times a day unlike other colleges.
What to do for fun There are many things to do here for fun. There are parties (party safe though), different events the campus does, $1 movies, hanging out with new people, and so much more things you can do every day for fun.
Bang for the buck University of Georgia is one of the more expensive schools out there but I feel as if it is worth it for the most part. It is wonderful being able to go here even if it is a little pricey.
Great for these types of students This college is great for all types of students. There is something here for everyone so no one is excluded.
Clubs and Activities If you want to join a club, there will most likely be the one you are looking for. We have hundreds of organizations here and you just gotta look for them.
Greek Life There are many sororities and fraternities on campus that you can get involved in. Greek life is a big thing in Athens.
Campus Safety Athens is not the safest place there is but it is not the worse place you could be either. Don't walk alone late at night and just be aware of the surroundings.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UGA is an amazing school and has something for everyone. It has many top rated programs and also has a great social scene. UGA is a great place to start your career.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to use a map!
Academic Rigor It really depends on what you major in. Accounting and Chemistry are REALLY difficult at UGA, but Childhood and Family Development is really easy.
Dorm Life Dorm life here is pretty fun. Though the rooms are small, it is a great way to make friends and meet people.
Food and Dining The dining halls are great, but pretty expensive. We have one dining hall that is open 24 hours a day Monday-Thursday.
What to do for fun Sporting Events
Party
Check out the historical places of Athens
Workout
UGA Botanical GardenBang for the buck UGA has some of the cheapest tuition around AND it is one of the best schools in the state (and country).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Don't walk under the arch or you won't graduate!!
Great for these types of students Dedicated students who want a hard major, or someone who is looking to have a relatively easy college experience with an easy major.
Clubs and Activities UGA has over 500 clubs and activities so there is something for everyone. At the beginning of the year they have Activity Fairs where a lot of the clubs come out to our student center area.
Greek Life I am not in Greek Life, but there are a lot of people here who are. It is pretty expensive to participate in greek life here, but those who do have a good time. There are plenty of people who aren't in greek organizations.
Campus Safety ON Campus is very safe - there are so many traffic police. It can be kind of scary at night since we are pretty close to the projects, but if you stay in a group it is safe. We also have a free police escort service if you don't feel safe walking back to your car at night

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I absolutely love the entire campus. It is well laid out, and it makes for a great college experience. The University of Georgia is one of the best universities in the nation, and you can take the education you receive from here and go anywhere with it.
Tips for prospective students Be sure not to overload yourself until you get a feel for the college experience first. Take time to get to know the campus so you can enjoy all it has to offer.
Academic Rigor It is a very tough school, especially if you go into it with the mindset you had in high school. The material is much more advanced, and you rarely get a one on one relationship with any of your teachers.
Dorm Life The dorms at UGA are amazing, and with all freshman being required to live in dorms, there is no trouble meeting new people. The resident assistants also plans events and meetings that help you get to know everyone better, so there is always something fun going on.
Food and Dining The University of Georgia has wonderful dining halls, and with 75 National Food Service Awards, there should be no problem finding something delicious at any of the 4 dining halls.
What to do for fun The Ramsey Student Center is a fun place where students can go to enjoy some basketball, weight lifting, rock climbing, racquetball, and just about any other sport you can imagine. And of course, Downtown Athens is always a treat for the more party oriented crowds.
Bang for the buck At the University of Georgia, you can take comfort in knowing you are receiving one of the best educations in the nation, and at an affordable price. With in-state tuition, and already cheap prices, you will get so much more than you're paying for at the University of Georgia.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A typical UGA tradition is to ring the chapel bell, which can be done for any or no reason at all, but it is fun to do. There is also an underground frisbee golf course that goes through North Campus. And there is a game of Humans vs. Zombies that occurs once every semester.
Great for these types of students Any type of student will find his or her niche at the University of Georgia. With the many different clubs and organizations, no student should have any trouble finding a group to call friends.
Greek Life Greek Life at the University of Georgia is very prevalent across campus. Every fraternity and sorority is involved with philanthropy projects that give back to the Athens community. There are both service and social fraternities, as well as music, christian, and multicultural fraternities.
Campus Safety There is basically a cop around every corner on campus, so there is never any need to worry for your safety on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Georgia offers an amazing adventure for all students in attendance. With a wide variety of classes, majors, extracurricular activities, and job opportunities, new students will always find their niche! The school can also boast about their state-of-the-art health center, meal plan, and gym.
Tips for prospective students Located in a quaint college town, UGA provides a unique experience for students to become involved on campus and in the surrounding community. Whether students are looking for an academic haven or a place to party, UGA offers different lifestyles to suit everyone's needs. Downtown Athens is a great getaway from scenic North Campus, offering students terrific coffee houses, unique restaurants, and many bars.
Academic Rigor UGA has many top-notch academic programs including the Grady School of Journalism, Terry College of Business, and the Hodgson School of Music. While core classes tend to be relatively easy, upper-level classes provide challenges for all majors. Professors in many departments have ivy-league educations, which has, in turn, boosted the expectations and depth of class lectures.
Dorm Life Freshmen are required to live on campus freshman year, but many sophomores and juniors also decide to stay on campus in the apartment-style residence halls. The Dawg House online roommate matching website allows students to find a match months before they move into their dorm. Most dorm rooms are a reasonable size, but some of the high-rise dorms are loud and rather dirty.
Food and Dining UGA has won countless awards for its four dining halls. All four of the dining halls are open during the week, and one of them, Snelling Dining Hall, is open 24 hours per day. Two dining halls are open on the weekend, and on Sunday, UGA provides a special brunch complete with a chocolate fountain. The meal plan is affordable for the quality and quantity of food students get. Students may eat as much as they want as many times as they want per day.
What to do for fun Besides the countless bars, restaurants, and indie concerts to go to downtown, there is much more to do in Athens for fun. UGA Union hosts hundreds of events for students every semester, including movie nights, concerts, Six Flags night, and Dawgs After Dark (events from 10 pm to 2 pm on Friday nights which often include bouncy castles, tattoo art, free food, and arts and crafts). Students also have the opportunity to get incredibly cheap tickets to all sporting events, including football and gymnastics.
Bang for the buck Because UGA's education is beginning to rival the standards of lower-level Ivy League schools, its relatively low tuition and room and board costs give students a great financial deal. Students gain access to the gym, health center, transportation system, campus computers, wifi network, and many other campus amenities for a very low cost.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Students uphold an old tradition around the Arch, which is the symbol of the University and separates campus from downtown Athens. Students who walk through the Arch are rumored to never graduate from the University. The steps on either side of the Arch are incredibly worn due to this tradition. One campus location is often kept a secret due to its tranquility and beauty: the Founder's Garden, located to the side of North Campus on Lumpkin Street, is a beautiful English-style garden, which offers a great green space for outdoor studying.
Great for these types of students UGA is great for students who want a challenging, fulfilling education but don't want the exorbitant costs of a private institution. Students who enjoy participating in activities and events outside the classroom will also greatly benefit from UGA's unique college experience.
Clubs and Activities UGA offers a wide variety of organizations for students to participate in. At the Fall and Winter Activity Fairs, over 200 student-run organizations attend to recruit new members.
Greek Life Milledge Avenue, UGA's Greek Row, holds the stereotypical standards of Greek Life. Sorority girls and fraternity boys party frequently and often, and they generally live in a completely different circle to the rest of campus. On a positive note, Greek Life spends some of its time raising money for various philanthropies.
Campus Safety UGA has its own police force to patrol campus, and the Athens-Clarke County police department also patrols the area. While most of the main streets of campus are well-lit at night, some streets are best avoided if students are walking alone.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences There are tons of activities, clubs, and events to get involved in at UGA. Based on your major and interests you can join an organization that will help further your education. The campus is spacious and lively; the University of Georgia is the epitome of a college town.
Tips for prospective students I suggest that you take advantage of the UGA bulletin. It is perfect for deciding a major and determining whether the prerequisite courses will be too challenging or not. UGA has a lot of neat resources that can help you avoid the hassle of switching your major if you just take advantage of the tools the school has to offer.
Academic Rigor The courses are hard if you don't dedicate enough time to studying. You may think that since UGA is a Liberal Arts University that you can get by without studying, but that is not the case. You go to college to get an education; so, why not challenge yourself and study as hard as you can?
Dorm Life East Campus Village is hands down the best on-campus housing. In some cases you get your own room and share your own bathroom with one other person. The downside is that living on campus can cost up to an extra thousand dollars.
Food and Dining The food is great and there are many options, but after a while you may get tired of the same food for lunch and dinner. That's when you go to a different dining hall (there are four dining halls to choose from). My personal favorite is the Snelling Dining Hall.
What to do for fun There are endless clubs and organizations to join and events to attend. Sporting events are amazing! Also, every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night there is some party at the Greek houses or in Downtown Athens.
Bang for the buck Tuition and student fees are through the roof. The meal plan costs more than it's worth and housing is too expensive. But hey, that's college for you!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Dawgs After Dark is an alternative to getting drunk downtown on a Friday night. It's a tradition to play fun games, spend time with friends and eat free food at this event.
Great for these types of students Extroverts and Introverts find something to entertain and satisfy them at the University of Georgia. It's a great school for any type of student.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of faith based organizations, major related clubs, and fun community service activities for all kinds of students to be a part of.
Greek Life Numerous sororities and fraternities to choose from, but not all of them have Greek houses.
Campus Safety Students often get emails of crimes that occur on or near the campus, but the police do a decent job of warning the students of dangerous activity going on around them.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UGA is large, loving, and loud! There's never a boring moment here. The academics and extra curriculars are great.
Tips for prospective students I encourage students to take the campus tour and experience what UGA is like during class hours. UGA has hundreds of clubs, so it is really easy to find a group or activity that interests you and if you don't, you can make your own club. UGA is the perfect place for fun, but you have to remember that you're in school.
Academic Rigor The academics here are pretty tough. I lot of people fall into the UGA v. Tech debate, but you have to remember that they are two totally different schools. UGA has over eight very competitive schools (Franklin Arts & Sciences, Terry School of Business...and many more!) Academics are really important here. Most classes are bearable, but there are some classes, lick Chemistry, that are very challenging, but students really enjoy those classes because they are dissecting every part of the subject's material.
Dorm Life All of the dorms aren't like magical hotels, but they are really fun to live in. Once you get past the communal bathrooms and realize that the RAs and other staff are really cool students, just like you, you'll LOVE going home (to your dorm). There are always programs going on about various things and most of the time there is FREE FOOD at the programs.
Food and Dining UGA has one of the best meal plans in the country. We have four dining halls and all of them have very different options. The dining halls are also easy to access from any location. Snelling is open 24hrs Monday-Thursday! Most of the time, you can find anything you have a taste for.
What to do for fun Aside from the hundreds of clubs, UGA has a really large party scene! There are bars and clubs in walking distance from the school or just hop on an East-West and your downtown! A lot of students like to window shop downtown ( you have to remember that we're broke)
Bang for the buck UGA has been ranked as one of the most financially sound schools in the country. For the most part, we know where are fees are going towards and the school does a really good job of making sure that it provides students with MORE than they need for a reasonable price.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus FOOTBALL is HUGE here! The chapel bell is used to announce big moments, like game wins or passing an exam.
Great for these types of students UGA is great for students who are head strong and willing to turn their actions into words.
Greek Life There are SO MANY sororities/ frats it's ridiculous!
Campus Safety UGA is very safe. Like any area, you should make sure that you don't walk alone at night. The UGA and Athens-Clarke County police are really great at keeping everything in order.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Amazing University with amazing teachers that are experts in their designated fields. You can't ask for better teachers to learn the material you need for your major. Also, many free tutors to help you with any subject that you may be struggling with.
Tips for prospective students Get ready to do work and lots of it. College really is MUCH different from high school. At first it doesn't seen like it, but then all of a sudden it hits you and before you know it half the semester is gone and your grades are not where they should be. Freshman year is the easiest year to loose your scholarships and have to pay out of pocket next year.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is fast but at the same time the teachers know how to teach it in such a way that it doesn't seem as fast and as much. I believe that the high quality of teachers makes student think that it not very academically rigor but it actually is.
Dorm Life The dorm life is amazing. Some of the dorms are old and some a very new. No matter what dorm you end in, you will have tons of fun. The people in the dorm are very social and want to get to know each other. You will meet lots of new people and have lots of fun with them!
Food and Dining The food and dining at UGA might be the highlight of the university. Snelling dining commons are open 24 hours Monday- Thursday, so no matter what time you have the munchies, you can always satisfy them. There is unlimited access to the dining halls and the quality of the food is 5 stars. Each of the four dining halls has a different style of food.
What to do for fun There is tons of things to do for fun. There is a rock climbing wall and the Ramsey student center. While at Ramsey, you can play basketball, racquetball, indoor soccer, bat-mitten, volleyball, swim, yoga. Outdoors, you can play soccer, football, ultimate frisbee and many other games on 10 fully big grass fields.
Bang for the buck You definitely get what you pay for and a little more. The quality of education that you will receive for the amount that it cost just can't be compared.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Unfortunately I do not know any unusual traditions or locations on campus.
Great for these types of students Smart, athletic, social, outgoing, funny
Clubs and Activities There are intramural team for almost any sport that you can think off. If there is not a intramural team for the sport that you play, you can start your own team.
Greek Life I am not very familiar with Greek Life since I am not part of it, but you can have tons of fun by not being part of it. This past year I had a lot of fun, without going to single Greek Life event!
Campus Safety The University of Georgia has its own police department that patrols the campus 24/7. It is safe to walk around campus any time of day. I have had to walk back to my dorm at 2 am numerous times and each time I would see at least one police car patrolling the area.

Tips for prospective students Learn the bus routes. Get on the meal plan. Don't schedule an 8am class.
Academic Rigor A lot of the science classes are hard. Everything else isn't to difficult for me. However, a lot of studying is involved for everything.
Dorm Life Creswell is the dorm to live in. My favorite advantage is you get to control you air conditioning in your dorm. It is so convenient to live on campus.
Food and Dining ECV is the best dinning hall by far! Be on the meal plan if you can!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Georgia is a diverse environment for students to not only have fun but be challenged by rigorous courses. The campus has several activities outside of academics including Greek life, sports(club or recreational), sporting events, exercise facilities and a huge amount of clubs. Students have been given the opportunity to grow and make connections with professors and other students in all atmospheres.
Tips for prospective students Future students, there is more to life than partying or studying. Try not to involve yourself in peer pressure and find the people who fit your standards. Also enjoy your first year because it is an experience to grow and discover more about yourself through different classes, activities and experiences. Always remember the courses are tough but to check ratings on professors and sign up for classes you will enjoy. So long as the classes fulfill the major requirements do not let your adviser make your college curriculum it is in your hands to make yourself into anything. For students who have been accepted and plan to attend, sign up for orientation as soon as possible because you sign up for classes and the last group has slim pickings for highly sought out courses.
Academic Rigor The rigor, especially for science students is difficult. If you have taken intensive AP courses you will know what to expect. Some of the courses offered are made easier by professors who are passionate about the subject. However, some professors are unhelpful and the class material can be difficult and require a lot of time outside of class. So long as you make a schedule of when things are due and ask for help when you need it, the rigor is not as overwhelming depending on the course.
Dorm Life Dorm life is one of the best experiences I have ever experienced. You have been given your mini-home away from home that you decorate and live in. Depending on the dorm, there are several different atmospheres for each community. The high rises(Brumby, Russell, Creswell and Ogelthorpe) are packed full with people and have a very social atmosphere but more problems with commodities. The smaller dorms (Boggs, Hill, Church, Mell, Lipscomb) are quieter but still allow for a lot of interaction with people who are easily available, and easier to bump into than the more crowded dorms. The others which are harder to get into(Meyers, MaryLydon, Rutherford, Reed) also seem closer to the smaller dorm interactions but are popular due to location of Snelling Dining Hall(except for Reed) and the football Stadium.
Food and Dining The food is not necessarily like home cooking, especially if spices and seasonings are a personal necessity. However, the service is excellent and they often do special dinners and the annual Taste of Home day. The special dinners revolve around certain events whether sports or Mardi Gras occasions and they cook food they ordinarily leave off the menu. The Taste of Home occurs around the time of finals; parents send in recipes to be chosen by directors of Food Services whom make a menu for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Each dining hall has different recipes and it helps alleviate home sickness and stress during the time. On a daily basis the food is good, sometimes certain foods get old but they have different menus for every week and rotate them. On another side note, they have highly desired jobs for students due to their pay and flexibility. If a job is a necessity this is highly recommended as its an easy process but you have to act quickly.
What to do for fun Fraternities and Sororities have socials and parties every week if you enjoy that aspect of life. However, other times the Tate Center shows a big movie for $2 on the weekends, there are sport events going on all year round, and the libraries have huges assortments of books. However, there is also Phi Slam, semi-annual party thrown by Christian group for students to dance and socialize without social peer pressures of drinking. This event is huge and takes place on a field due to the turn out of students from all backgrounds whom attend this sober party. Dawgs After Dark is another activity in which students have the ability to avoid peer pressure, every month there is a theme and the commitee hosts students at a facility somewhere on campus. They have activities to go with each theme, including bull riding, bouncy castles, food, free stuff, games and much more. For nice weather students can walk around campus or visit the State Botanical Gardens which has several paths and various things to learn about.
Bang for the buck Usually the campus bookstore is over-priced for anything clothing to books. Off-Campus Bookstore and Baxter Street Bookstore often have the best prices for new and old books; they also give free shirts at the beginning of the year. Most food places have student deals and coupons in which students can eat dinner or grab a special treat. There are multiple Waffle Houses, and frozen yogurt stores withing walking distance.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The ringing of the chapel bell occurs after every time the football team wins a game or any occasion a student feels the need to here it ring. Another tradition is not walking under Arch until after graduation otherwise the student will not earn their degree due to their lack of luck afterwards.
Great for these types of students Any student would be a perfect fit here due to the amount of diversity on campus. Students who prefer to have fun and enjoy various events have plenty of opportunities. While quiet students have plenty of study rooms and spaces to enjoy themselves or read a book.
Clubs and Activities Clubs can be anything from AIDS, AMSA(American Medical Student Asscociation), HERO's, and so many more listed under a listserv on the internet in which you can view the list. The community also have several religious affiliations that can meet students needs for worship whether it be a synagogue, church, etc..
Greek Life The Greek life at the University is very popular, however if you do not enjoy peer pressure or under age drinking this would not be an enjoyable aspect of your time.
Campus Safety The safety on campus is fantastic as they usually have police patrolling all the time whether day or night. Campus has well lit and populated areas and even in the dorms they have security measures that deny certain people access without verification as a student. However, downtown and into the more rural parts of campus the safety have less assurance if alone or unaware of the demographics.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Georgia is a great college with many opportunities that are easy to access. There is a variety of majors and minors which allow students to follow subjects they are passionate about while choosing a major that will give them an upper hand in the job market. Overall the college helps students to thrive academically, socially, and globally.
Tips for prospective students Get active. There are multiple programs ranging from Greek life to a variety of religious groups. There are multiple activities to help give back to the community and club sports for those who want to stay physically active and meet people who share common interests.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor depends on one's major and professors but all core classes allow students to adjust to college life without (for the most part) shocking the system. The professors, that I have had, all want the students to be successful and are more than pleasant when one is in need of extra help. All a student has to do is put in the extra effort and ask for help.
Dorm Life I love where I live and have made most of my friends through being friendly on the hall. I like in Oglethorpe House where the rooms have an on-suite bath and the floors are co-ed. They dorm itself is very clean given it's age and although the building has centralized cooling/ heating the temperature is always reasonable.
Food and Dining There are four dining halls and all have different qualities that allow the students a variety of options. Oglethorpe Dining Commons is being reconstructed and getting an addition which is very exciting because it is fairly close to all the freshman high-rise dorms. The food is great and the system allows you to go in and getting as much as you want, whenever you want.
What to do for fun There are many things to do for fun. In the fall, there are awesome football games and in the spring there is baseball and gymnastics. Students can play soccer or ultimate frisbee at the intramural fields with friends or catch a movie at the Tate Student Center for only a dollar. The options are endless and with a great downtown area on the edge of campus, students can go shopping at trendy stores during the day or check out the great nightlife on the weekends.
Bang for the buck The University of Georgia is definitely the greatest bang for your buck if you live in state. The only competition it has is Georgia Tech and the two universities are known for different aspects. The University of Georgia allows students to get a great education but also make lifelong friendships.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus After we win a game, new pledges for fraternities often have to ring the chapel bell in North Campus all night. Otherwise, it is said that the ringing of the chapel bell brings good luck. No undergrad walks through the Arch at the edge of North Campus and Downtown. It is a privilege given only to students who have graduated and if one does it before their time it is bad luck.
Great for these types of students Students who want to live in a college town. Almost everyone you see will be college students. It is also great for students who love the south. Athens embraces it's heritage as being one of, if not the oldest colleges in the south.
Clubs and Activities They have almost anything you can think of. And if it's not here, students have the ability to create new clubs. There is even quidditch!
Greek Life Greek Life is present and many people join but if you aren't in it then it is not a big deal. Those who choose greek life still hang out with people who did not rush and vice versa. Greek Life is just another opportunity to be active in the community and make new friends.
Campus Safety The city of Athens is not the safest, but the University's campus itself is very safe and well lit at night. There have been no problems or issues of safeness I have come across since I have been going here.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences University of Georgia has a live and friendly atmosphere that allows students to enjoy the real experience of college. Saturdays during football season are always packed with howling fans and loud obnoxious drunk Georgia fans. On weekends after a week hard of hard studying, students occasionally go to down Athens and live it up until Sunday.
Tips for prospective students Don't think that the last minute studying habits and doing homework the day is due will suffice at University of Georgia. You are going to need to study your butt off, and you'll find your self most likely stuck at the Student Learning Center of UGA most of the time with the rest of the students. However, don't allow studying to consume all your free time, go out and have some fun.
Academic Rigor If you don't study, you won't make the grades you want. Don't think that you can breeze your way through courses. The amount of effort you put in, reflects your grades.
Dorm Life Dorm life is expensive. If you get stuck with some random person as a room mate, your either going to make a new best friend or an enemy. Attempt to make the best out of the closet sized room.
Food and Dining Freshman 15 is the real deal at the University of Georgia. The meal plan at this university includes an all you can eat buffet. So either be prepared to hit the gym that's locate right next to the dining hall or limit your self.
What to do for fun Fridays go out and party. Saturdays go out and party. Sundays relax.
Bang for the buck I need this scholarship, due to the fact that I am unable to be eligible for Hope Scholarship. I feel pretty bad making my parents pay for everything which comes out to be a huge amount of money. So any amount of money will do.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Make sure to visit the Sandford Stadium. Also, hit the gym up, it's amazing.
Great for these types of students There are always events going on around campus and its not that hard to find out. Flyers are everywhere. A lot of information is also passed through mass email.
Clubs and Activities Tons of clubs so you can find the right one.
Greek Life Stuck up
Campus Safety Decent.

Academic Rigor the whole university can be very competitive.
Dorm Life the dorms are wonderful and you can really get to know other students.
Food and Dining the meal plans are good, but are really costly
What to do for fun there are an incalculable amount of clubs and groups around the college and the city itself. take a stroll down the street and you are bound to find something to do.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences uga is a great school. you can get involved in so many organizations, find a great place to work part time, and make friends that last a lifetime. and don't slack too much- studying is key!
Tips for prospective students keep your gpa up in high school! also make sure you are involved- uga looks at your involvement in school activities a lot. be on your school government and join lots of clubs, mainly leadership roles.
Academic Rigor the science department is very rigorous. many people change their major after taking chemistry. some teachers are a bit difficult, but that's what koofers is for!
Dorm Life dorm life is amazing. i made so many friendships during my freshman year because i lived in the dorms. your ra will have plenty of activities planned for you and dorms tend to have many school-wide activities just about everyday.
Food and Dining the food? 4 dining halls with all you can eat- style dining- one of them open 24 hours (monday-friday)? it's perfection. ecv has the best sandwiches, smoothies, pizza and philly-cheesesteaks. i used to go to o-house everyday for their coffee, sushi and stir-fry.
What to do for fun take advantage- uga has tons of activities. take a boxing class at ramsey. or join a club that does shows for the students outside the tate student center. pamoja is a great dance team outside of the school that is very popular.
Bang for the buck if you want the true campus experience, uga is the way to go.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a hidden ice cream shop behind snelling- you didn't hear it from me!
Great for these types of students hardworking students who don't mind studying all the time and who truly want a campus experience.
Clubs and Activities there are tons to choose from, and if you can't find one, make your own!
Greek Life sororities and fraternities are a big part of uga. keep your gpa, get involved (lots of community service) and attending their events will help if you want to be apart of them.
Campus Safety it could be better. for such a big party campus there are plenty of police downtown who don't bother you for the most part. and if you are a little inebrieted designated dawgs will always give you a lift!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences univeristy of georgia is challenging but not overwhelming. i enjoy taking the classes that i am currently enrolled in. overall, academically, i would rate university of georgia a 7 out of 10.
Tips for prospective students remember that it is important to find a college that fits your needs not only academicaly but also socially. be careful when first starting college; learn time management and always have a rough outline of what you want out of college. do not over stress about the process of picking a college. remember to have fun!
Academic Rigor uga has some very difficult class that it offers. this is particularly true for the honors program. i have been thoroughly challenged in class and i am sure there are many more opportunities to take classes that challenges all students intellectually
Dorm Life uga has a very wide variety of dorm life. there are freshman high rises that hold up to a 1000 people all the way to small, cozy dorms that hold no more than 200. each dorm breeds a different kind of atmosphere from family-like to wild and busy. so at the university of georgia, you are bound to find the dorm lifestyle you seek.
Food and Dining food at the university of georgia is beyond amazing. the food services at the university of georgia has won a plethora of awards for its outstanding food and service. not only this, but the meal plan is set up where you can eat whenever you want, as many times as you want, and as much as you want, which is every person's dream.
What to do for fun because uga is considered to be a big university population-wise, you can find anything you want to do on campus. from different sports to music to art, there are opportunities for each person to get involved in whatever they are interested in doing.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i love everything about uga, from the academics to the social life. there is never a dull moment on this campus. everyone around here is super friendly and helpful!
Tips for prospective students if you are looking into attending uga, come for a visit and i'm sure you'll love it! the campus is beautiful, the location is perfect and the people are friendly. you can't go wrong in choosing to further your education at the university of georgia. go dawgs!
Academic Rigor be sure to remember that you'll have to work hard once you get here. yes, it is fun here, but you must remember that you are here for a purpose and that is to obtain a quality education. the courses here are not extremely hard, but time management is what you should focus on. due dates come quicker than you image and if you have not spent adequate time preparing for papers. tests and quizzes, your grades will reflect that.
Dorm Life the residence hall set up is great. it accommodates everyone. there are also beautiful landscaping, fields and quads for outdoor recreation.
Food and Dining the food at the dining halls of uga are amazing! on any given day, you have the option to choose to dine at any one of our four dining halls. eat dining hall specializes in some type of meal, whether it be breakfast, mexican, italian or chinese. uga's dining halls cater to all taste buds. the snelling dining hall is even open 24 hours for the midnight-snacker!
What to do for fun becoming apart of the many organizations available on campus can be fun. you are constantly meeting new people from all sorts of backgrounds. once a month from 10pm-2am a carnival/activity night is put on where there is tons of free music, crafts, rides, games, photo shoots and food!

Dorm Life you live in a building with all your closest friends.
Food and Dining expensive, but well worth it.

Bang for the buck athens is a relatively inexpensive town to live in (except for housing).

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i love this school. i wasn't sure about it at first because it's known for it's crazy party scene (which is totally true) and i'm not really into that. the first month or two were rough, but as i got involved and started making friends, i began to really enjoy myself, and i couldn't see myself anywhere else!
Tips for prospective students don't be discouraged if it feels like you're not making lasting friends right off the bat. when i got here, i met a ton of people and never saw a lot of them again. but get involved! find an organization of people that share your interests and be consistent with it, and you will naturally make good friends!
Academic Rigor these classes are hard, but there are many tutoring opportunities available to students, including drop-in tutoring at several of the big residence halls and individual tutoring for free by appointment. also, many professors are very helpful during their office hours. take advantage of them!
Dorm Life many of the first (and long lasting) friends i've made here live on my hall. be sure to leave your door open for visitors for the first couple months (only when you're in your room, of course).
Food and Dining from what i've heard, the food here is much better than a lot of other schools, but it can get old after a while. there are 4 dining halls and they all have something unique that the others don't have, which is cool. however, you will most likely get bored with the food and either need to get creative (which is possible-i made puppy chow in the dining hall the other day), or eat off campus (which is not a big deal-there are many restaurants right off campus).
What to do for fun what not to do for fun?! uga offers a lot of activities for students that don't need to drink to have fun. one of my favorite things they did this year was lights out on legion, where they showed a movie outside on legion field. it was so fun! also, they have a program every month or two called dawgs after dark. it's basically a carnival at the student center or gym on a friday night. and do not miss out on sporting events. football games, especially! not many people get a chance to be close to the field at an sec football game for $8!
Bang for the buck it doesn't seem that uga is any more expensive than any other accredited college, and i feel like i'm getting a great college experience and a valuable education for the price.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the chapel bell. on north campus, there is a huge, old bell that students can ring for whatever they want. typically, it will ring all night after a football win. however, if you have any reason to celebrate something (a passed test, perhaps?) you can ring it all you want!
Great for these types of students i think it's pretty great for any type of student. there are outdoor clubs, foreign language clubs, religious organizations, community outreach organizations, and any other type of organization you could imagine. on a campus this big, it'd be hard not to find your place.
Clubs and Activities so many! it's almost overwhelming. i've chosen a few to be really involved with, and it's really awesome.
Greek Life coming from a non-greek student, i can tell you that there is a ton of greek life. however, the houses aren't right in the center of campus, so you can escape it if you're like me. :)
Campus Safety although i've heard a few stories about kidnappings and such, i've never encountered a problem with safety. there are campus police all over the place. just don't make any bad decisions. avoid downtown on a saturday night. avoid dark, abandoned streets. and carry mace, like me. just use common sense and you should be fine!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i have always loved the university of georgia and was brought up a bulldawg. since getting here, i have had no problems with uncooperative professors or unfair classes (like some friends at other colleges/universities). the most important part of my experience, though, has been the incredible friendships i have built with my fellow 'dawgs.
Tips for prospective students be outgoing! there is no way you can go all four years without finding some true friends out of the 35,000 that go here.
make sure you like your major, or classes may be boring.Academic Rigor do not expect to simply slide by without doing work--they really do expect your best here!
if you put in your best, you will usually receive grades reflective of your effort.Dorm Life give dorm life a go; it's where i have made most of my friends.
get used to sharing space, seriously. the rooms are kind of small, but it teaches you to be more responsible.
your roommate probably won't be too happy if you go four weeks without doing laundry... i know from experience.Food and Dining definitely do the meal plan the first year. it will be a lifesaver.
if you are one of those people who enjoys eating out, only do the 5 day meal plan. if not, go for the 7 day plan. it's a great deal! What to do for fun oh goodness, there are so many things to do for fun! there are over 600 clubs/organizations, intramural sports, downtown (for those of you who like shopping and more), dawgs after dark (free activities for students on select fridays throughout the semester), gorp (an outdoor recreational group), the gym ramsey, hanging out with friends, going to concerts. i know there is more, but i won't go on. just use your imagination!
Bang for the buck i love it here, and would not want to go anywhere else. so i believe i am getting an amazing value.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is the arch. not the arches--this isn't mcdonald's! you cannot walk from campus to downtown under the arch or you will not graduate.
the chapel bell is located on north campus, and you ring it after victories.
there are several victory chants, but you will learn them at orientation. dawgs learn all the traditions they need to know before they even start classes!Great for these types of students serious students who love to have fun will be perfect matches for this university.
Clubs and Activities like i said, there are over 600 clubs! i am part of uga heros, a group that supports children with hiv/aids. the clubs are a great way to make a big campus seem smaller, and they are great ways to make new friends.
Greek Life a lot of students are greek, but those who are not still have a place here. i am not in a sorority, but i have several friends who are, and they love it.
Campus Safety i have never felt threatened. policeman patrol all of campus all hours of the day and night. there are numbers that students can call if they want to be escorted or feel unsafe. desk attendants in the residence hall also enhance safety.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences university of georgia is a great school in a pretty great town. there is always something happening in athens, and the biggest cultural center of athens, downtown, is a step off campus. campus itself is very scenic and hilly, so the bus system is a big help.
Tips for prospective students don't get discouraged. i got in to a variety of other schools, applied to uga early decision, and was deferred to regular admission. for that reason, i wrote uga off, but in reality i was accepted regular decision and it has been great. pay attention to not just your gpa and test scores, but your activities and essays too. i promise the whole package really does count.
Academic Rigor no one at uga is stupid. you have to do your work and put in the time and effort. i have learned that just what you did in high school will get you mediocre grades at best. going to class is always a good decision. studying is essential. put in the effort and you will do fine.
Dorm Life the dorms are relatively small, especially the freshman ones. community bathrooms are truly no fun at all. if you live in a freshman dorm, you will probably meet some pretty cool people, but if they have a housing crisis like they did this year, chances are you will miss out on that freshman experience in an upperclassman dorm.
Food and Dining we are one of the best rated dining programs in the nation, or so i am told. snellabration, going to the 24 hours dinning hall after midnight, is a rite of passage. in addition the retail side of food services offers other favorites such as larry's subs, bulldawg cafe, chick-fil-a, and barberitos. i am personally not on a meal plan but i would definitely recommend it. on the other upside, food services hires students!
What to do for fun downtown is the biggest athens night scene, but don't get fooled into thinking bars and late night diners are all athens has to offer. get involved on campus, because there is always a movie or fun event. go to the botanical gardens. adventure out into the city and do something crazy like spend a whole day in thrift stores. the biggest key to fun here is finding something you love and throwing yourself into it with everything you have.
Bang for the buck tuition is too high. in all honesty, what college doesn't charge too much money? the upside is that college is a good investment and 4 years at uga is an experience you will never get again.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus ring the chapel bell when we win or if something big is going on in your life! never walk under the arch until the day you graduate. there is a tree that owns itself. beware of the tate preacher. never ride family housing bus at night. find the stairs that lead to nowhere and ask about the story behind them. play in the fountain! get a g-book, the official traditions book of uga. its worth it!
Great for these types of students outgoing students are the best off, because if you don't make an effort to fend for yourself, it is very easy to fall through the cracks. also, good for students who can balance social and academic life because we may have been the number 1 party school last year, but that doesn't make the actual college part of these a picnic.
Clubs and Activities there is something for everyone, i promise. there are so many that it is very easy to be overwhelmed. just take what you are interested in and seek it out.
Greek Life there is a large greek presence on campus. though i love being greek, it can be very demanding at times. just stick with it because it is worth it. if you don't want to go greek, there are still plenty of people who are not greek and greeks who are very friendly. just because you aren't greek doesn't mean you will be left out.
Campus Safety the dorms have hand scanners to enter. uga alert will let you know if there is something such as a tornado. there are tornado sirens, and uga is good about keeping people informed in emails. the uga police are around and dutifully pull people over all the time for brake lights and speeding. still uga is lacking. my biggest complaint is they don't have the call for help stations on campus that you see at many other universities.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the uga campus is absolutely breath-taking with its lovely hills and bustling, energetic students who always find some unordinary way to entertain themselves. the academic level is definitely challenging, but with the right professors, the education is worth the effort and at times, quite enjoyable. the dining halls and the gym are by far the two most amazing features of uga, because they are convenient and never lack variety.
Tips for prospective students sit down at any random table in the dining halls, even if there are other students there. it is extremely easy to carry on a conversation with the students here. they are for the most part friendly, funny, and fairly intelligent. i would recommend joining rotc, a club, or some sort of organization. it is the best way to make friends here and it will make your college-life so much easier and less lonely. there is always something to do, so don't feel embarrassed to join in on random activities around campus. :]
Academic Rigor i would say the academics here are challenging, but i can't give it five stars, because there will always be those classes that are super-easy or super-hard. that is up to you to rate yourself.
Dorm Life i recommend dorm life!! live it one year before you judge it. dorms are conveniently located and it is definitely easier to get around the campus. the best way for you to ease into uga is living in a dorm. there are all types of dorms for you to choose from: quiet, party (shhhh), smart (honors), luxury, etc. don't be afraid to ask around (everyone does).
Food and Dining as i stated before, the meal plan here is incredible. from mondays @7am to fridays @2:30pm, one of the dining halls is open for un-lmtd service. it's so crazy!! you can walk in at 3am for a break from all-nighter papers. there are also three other dining halls open 7 days a week. there are grills, sandwich sections, salad bars, main lines, cereals, drinks, breads, a wok, and an omelet area! the dining halls have practically everything.
What to do for fun there is always something going on. :] movies, concerts, vollyeball meets, ultimate frisbee, medieval (pretend) fights, harry potter themed games, dawgs after dark (student activities with lots of free stuff and fun things to do!!), etc! if that doesn't make you happy, we are conveniently located next to downtown athens, where you can go to a club (they have 18+ clubs for underagers). for the religious students, there are many, many, many night concerts, lunch dates, and break-out sessions. :] there is so much to do here for everyone.
Bang for the buck it is definitely worth the money. it is up to you whether to make it worth coming out of your family's or your pocket.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a saying that if you go through the arch without having graduated, then you will never graduate (it used to be, you will become sterile). ask around though, most people know it :].
Great for these types of students definitely the number one group would be the party-ers. if you like to party, do it here. athletic students would also love it here. the campus is a work-out itself, the gym is fantastic, and there are recreational activities going on every single day (hands-down). smart kids, and musicians would love it here too. amazing academics for the bright ones, and definitely an awesome band (redcoat marching band rocks).
Campus Safety the campus safety here is pretty awesome. you have cards, and hand scanners to get to your dorm rooms. there are always police everywhere, and there are many ways to contact help if necessary. it is pretty safe around here, but don't go around walking by yourself at odd hours in the night!!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences it may be a big school, but the university of georgia holds many opportunities for their students. there are countless was to get involved with the people around you. it is a great environment and there is a lot to learn here.
Tips for prospective students get to know your peers before classes start. being sociable with others will help you in the long run. also, join or start a study group for classes in which you may need more help.
Academic Rigor classes are a little challenging, but they are many people here to help you obtain the grade that you want. tutors, peers, and professors will give you the help you need.
Dorm Life all freshman are usually housed together, so it is easy to find people similar to you. there are many options for where you want to stay.
Food and Dining we have four dining halls and all of them basically serve what you want. one of the dining halls is open for 24 hours, so after a long day of studying, you won't have to go to sleep starving.
What to do for fun there is an event that uga has every month called dawgs after dark. it is a free carnival full of fun things the students can do. athletic games are always eventful, and clubs and organizations always have fun things planned.
Bang for the buck for georgia residents, it is worth the money. there are a countless amount of things to do that are already paid for.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus anyone that plans on graduating from this school should not walk under the arches located on north campus. it is known that if you walk under it before you graduate, then you will not graduate for uga.
Great for these types of students it's great for all types. everyone is welcome. there are groups of all types of people here, so it is easy to find people with the same interests as you.
Clubs and Activities everyone has something to do. you can name any type of group and uga has it.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UGA is diverse and abound with opportunities for everyone and anyone. Because the school is so big, it's next to impossible to not fit in somewhere and it is very easy to find something you love to do. UGA is a good mix of school, extracurricular and off-campus fun.
Tips for prospective students Find something you love to do and join a club or organization that supports that. Go to the campus events which act as healthy breaks from studying or excellent sources of information.
Academic Rigor Academic rigor depends on the class and/or major. In general, if you keep up with your classes and put in a decent amount of study time, you will do well in classes with plenty of free time leftover.
Dorm Life Dorms at UGA can range from small, box-like rooms that two roommates share to full apartments where roommates get their own rooms. Amenities and quality of rooms and bathrooms depend on the dorm chosen, but generally freshman dorms are the least pleasant while the apartment style upperclassmen dorms are the nicest. Also, some dorms are close to dining halls but not to classes while others are among all the classes but you must walk far for food.
Food and Dining UGA's food services are decent and try its best to provide a wide variety of food. It has one 24-hour dining hall, but it is small and the least diverse of the dining halls. In downtown Athens there are many different eateries of all styles of food.
What to do for fun There is a free movie theater on campus; shows come through campus throughout the year and many are free to attend if you are a UGA student; there are countless clubs and organizations; the gym is an amazing complex with several huge pools, also free to students. However, certain classes cost money to take, but they're fun so the money is worth it.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The education isn't like Ivy league, but that's to be expected. However, for a public school, with a large and vibrant campus, that also includes students who participate in facilitating everyday situations, this school makes the learning experience very pleasurable.
Am enjoying being here Dorm life, meal plans, the whole college shebang, and it's wonderful. The variety of people is enormous, the traditional rules of high-school friends are off, anyone is up for a friendly chat.
Bang for the buck Prices have gone up lately, but as a school, it's still relatively low price, and amazing.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get atleast a decent GPA!
SATs count for a lot at this school, as well as with many of the other southern universities.Great for these types of students If you want the full experience, but are on a budget, this is a great university to attend (if you're instate)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UGA offers a variety of classes that interest a diverse range of students and also satisfy graduation and degree requirements. Try something new!
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful. The people are diverse and friendly. When you walk on the campus, you truly get that I'm a college student feel. There are numerous programs, and you will always find something to do. Always.
Bang for the buck Tuition is fixed, so you can take as many hours as you want without an increase in price. Take advantage of this. Also, know that HOPE pays out at $200+ dollars per HOUR taken over 12 hours up to 15 hours, but tuition doesn't change.
Tips for prospective students Get to know people, look up all your options, and do NOT slack off the first semester. Everyone will tell you here's the differences in high school, but the truth is...it's not. Study even when you think you don't have to. But, if you can, looking up things on Sparknotes.com, still works.
Great for these types of students Every type!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a great deal at the University of Georgia. There are so many different subjects available for study, and there are so many opportunities to grow and learn from not only the excellent professors, but from other students as well. I have studied everything from organic chemistry to science fiction theory. I have had the opportunity to engage in discussion with people from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances, each of whom has helped me to experience something new and further my education in a unique way.
Am enjoying being here I love life at UGA. There truly is something for everyone, whether your interest is Varsity football, language immersion groups, intramural sports, art, politics, or volunteer service. There are so many ways to get involved and meet new people.
Bang for the buck UGA is a great deal for the money. We've been described as having an Ivy League education for a public school price, and that really is so true. UGA has become extremely competitive in recent years, and I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to be challenged, receive an excellent education, and have lots of fun along the way.
Tips for prospective students I definitely recommend that new students get involved in extracurricular activities. UGA is a really big school, and if you are not engaged in the community, it might be easy to feel lost. By getting involved in group activities, you can meet friends that will last a lifetime and maybe even gain a great new hobby or interest.
Great for these types of students UGA is so special because it's great for all types of students. It's huge and diverse, and there really is a place for everyone here. No matter who you are or what you like, you can find someone here who will relate.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Classes are classes. Some are really enjoyable and interesting, some are boring and hard to get through but I think that's how it is for every college. I can say I have learned a lot here at UGA. Most of my classes have been very interesting and every one of my professors have been easy to approach if I ever had a question. UGA is competitive but doable. Some will have to study hard and often and some won't. But I have learned so much here at UGA, both in a classroom setting and as a person. The people I am surrounded with are helping me grow as an individual and my teachers are helping me grow and learn as a student.
Am enjoying being here Athens is more than I can explain. It will quickly become your home. UGA has so many opportunities and activities to make the college transition as easy as possible. We have Dawgs After Dark events which are just free events for the student body which include activities like a ferris wheel, kayaking in the pool, a rock wall, free food and casinos...basically just free fun. We have our own movie theater with new movies for only $3. There are over 400 clubs, basically a club for everyone and if there's not one you like then you can make your own! There are so many religious organizations, intramural sports, bars and the downtown scene, opportunities to serve in the community, Georgia Football, great shopping, the botanical gardens, the Georgia Museum of Art and so many more. Athens and UGA has a lot to offer. UGA can be seen as a big school but it can be anything you want it to be.
Bang for the buck College is expensive but it is worth it. If you have the HOPE Scholarship it will help pay for your funds but you will still pay around $3,000-$4,000 in student fees, this does not include housing but does include the meal plan. UGA is an amazing school and I would do as much as I can to go here. I definitely think it is worth the money. Besides tuition, student tickets for football games are $8, most events out on by the school are free, the restaurants are amazing for the price, these are just some examples of expenses but it is definitely worth every penny.
Tips for prospective students In terms of living situations if you are a freshmen I would live in one of the high rises (Brumby, Creswell, Russell). They are in the best location and you'll make many friends. Those dorms are also very close to the Student Learning Center and the Tate Center, both facilities are considered the hub bub of campus.
Take advantage of the first year. There are SO many things to do but be careful not to spread yourself too thin. I have several friends who just did too much and either lost the HOPE scholarship or transferred home. Remember school is your first priority.
Take advantage of the services at the school, because you're paying for them! Ramsey (the gym), free tutoring services, transportation, and any events put on by the university.Great for these types of students I came into this school thinking that a certain type of student goes to UGA but I was quickly proved wrong.
This school is great for people who want to better themselves as students and as individuals, who want to learn more, who want to be part of a real community and who want to enjoy these four (or possibly more) years of college.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot This university is educationally diverse and professional. I have been taught by several UGA alumni, for academics and sports, those of whom were top level educators. I am proud of the school even though I haven't taken any classes there.
Will enjoy being here The campus is thriving! My visit to the library, campus, and stadium was extensive and informative. The average student will surely be busy with studies, clubs, sports, art, and social soirees. Thankfully the college is like a microcosm of marvelous events.
Bang for the buck I would be concerned about the cost of living and attending college on the UGA campus. Even though I am eligible for in-state-tuition or hope scholarship money, the cost of attending will always seem a little steep. But hey, it's Athens and you are assured to have a great education and future.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I can honestly say that I am learning a lot! Not only am I learning, but I am also enjoying many of my classes! For example, I never liked history as a subject, but I had an amazing teacher and an even better TA. This enabled me to learn a lot and earn an A in the course! To be completely honest, you also learn a lot about yourself outside of class since Athens is all about the University of Georgia which builds a great sense of community!
Am enjoying being here I love being at UGA! I honestly can't see myself anywhere else!! The classes and the people are great! I intend to continue my education at UGA's law school after I get my Bachelor's.
Bang for the buck Since I am a Georgia resident, UGA is very affordable! HOPE scholarship is a lifesaver!
Tips for prospective students GO TO CLASS!!! I cannot say that enough!! Throughout my first semester I thought I could just read and study and wouldn't have to go to lectures......I was very wrong! Lectures aren't as bad as people sometimes make them out! Try to go into class with a positive attitude and a good nights rest and you will be fine!
Great for these types of students I think being self motivated is very important! I have a friend who is pretty apathetic about going to class and studying which resulted in her losing her HOPE scholarship and wasting a lot of time and money to fail classes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot While it is easy to be distracted by the party atmosphere on weekends, UGA offers amazing opportunities to students who are ready to learn. From research opportunities, to amazing study abroad courses, You can definitely find the resources here that you need to be a real professional in your field. Also, the professors at UGA can help you get connected in the professional world.
Am enjoying being here UGA is not only a great place to learn, but there is an abundance of student organizations and programs to get involved in, or, if you prefer to have more time on your hands, there are also lovely parks, one-time excursions, an interesting downtown area, and many community events to keep you entertained and connected without being burdened.
Bang for the buck UGA is pricey but as long as they can remain unaffected by major budget cuts it is well worth the price you are paying. Keep your eye out for scholarships and financial aide though!!!
Tips for prospective students Get to know your professors and find a balance between your social, academic, and hygienic lives. Also, go ahead and memorize the UGA bus map as well as the major Athens Transit bus lines (both are free to fee's paying students).
Great for these types of students In order to succeed at UGA, you can't fade into the background. You have to make sure you stand out. Talk to the professors, participate in community events, and talk to your neighbors. This will both keep you from being overwhelmed by the huge campus, hold you accountable, and give you resources when times are tough. This is the kind of place where you have to take charge of your education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot College is not like high school where you can do your homework in class and be done. The work may not be lengthy but it can be extensive. It's a totally different environment; teachers don't always teach from the book... some teachers don't even use the textbooks but want you to purchase other books. Just like all experiences of learning, you'll have some very boring teachers, some average teachers, and some very excited and life changing! There will be some nights that regardless of how much you don't procrastinate, you'll be up all night doing projects or those extensive homework assignments! Be prepared.
Am enjoying being here College is what you make it; if it's boring, that is because you've never tried anything. If it's so exciting that you can't get your work done, you might want to relax a little. Being here at the university is so much fun and at the same time challenging. For most of us, we are traveling from different states or this is our first time being away from home for an extended period of time. Don't let that scare you, though. Everyone has experienced that and can tell you how they dealt with it. For me, I was excited to come here. This was my first time moving, so it was a new life for me.
Being here allots you so many opportunities. Besides it being the #1 party school in America, there are many productive clubs and organizations that are involved in the Athens community such as UGA Heroes, UGA Miracle and UGA Relay For Life. These organizations help specifically with children with any ailment. If you're looking for fun in in the arts, there's a dance group PUMOJA that puts on shows all the time. Hugh Hodgson School of Music has many ensembles to choose from like Concert Choir, Opera Ensemble, AACE, and more. If you're more instrumental, they have marching band or symphonic band and orchestra. Lamar Dodd School of the Arts is next door as well as the Georgia Museum of Art. The dining food is a must have! There are four to choose from- Bolton, O'House, Snelling, and ECV. With your meal plan, you can go in as ever many time you want and dine with your friends, even if it's just to get ice cream. The school is AWESOME and has endless opportunities! Take advantage of them! And don't forget about the sports! GOOOOOOOOOO DAWGS!!!Bang for the buck If you're from Georgia, you get your bucks' worth. You get HOPE and the Pell Grant if eligible. When you get to college, keep your GPA up because the standards have changed. Remember the fees that are being paid for and take advantage of them. Go the recreation center sometime or attend Dawgs After Dark each month if you have time. You paid for it; go!
Tips for prospective students -Never accept the answer no from those who don't have the authority to tell you so.
-Have fun, try new things, be innovative, and make your presence known!
-Learn exceptional networking skills and get involved.
-Do your best in all you do!
-This is not high school; leave your old drama there!
-College is not all about how you dress... you don't have to be fancy to be important.
-The best thing that you can do in life is be yourself!
-College is not a competition of who can finish first; it's also not meant for you to be there forever. Use your time wisely.
-Freshman 15- just stay active! If you're going to eat a lot, make sure you balance it out with be extremely active.
-Before you join organizations, go to their interest meetings and see what they're about. Don't join because your friend is in it or because they're colors are pretty.
-Don't worry too much if you don't see many people like yourself in the beginning; they're out there, you'll find them.
-All of your classes are not going to be 300+ like people say. Most of your classes will actually be about 30 or 40 people tops, especially when you get into your major.
-Whatever you do, TRY your best NOT to PROCRASTINATE! It's a killer!
-When a teacher gives extra credit (if they do), do it! It can only help you, not hurt you.
-Too much work and not enough relaxing can be more stressful than having too much fun- BALANCE IS KEY!Great for these types of students UGA Heroes, UGA Miracle and UGA Relay For Life- focuses on helping kids with ailments and raises money to assist them
Sierra Club- focuses on doing away with the coal that is behind the Child Development Center at the university and helps the environment.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Honestly, I know people say a lot about lecture halls not being good for instruction but in my first year at UGA, I only had one lecture hall class...and it was actually one of my favorite classes! I have enjoyed almost all my teachers. I have been challenged but not TOO stressed. :)
Am enjoying being here I definitely love UGA. I only have two main quibbles. First, I didn't have the best roommate experience, but that can happen anywhere you go. Second, I really wish the campus was more diverse. If you are looking diversity, UGA is NOT the place for you. The campus is mostly Caucasian.
Bang for the buck In state tuition really can't be beat. It's a great college and if you can secure the ZELL scholarship (GPA 3.7 and up) or the HOPE scholarship (GPA 3.3 to 3.69) that makes it even better. The meal plan is pretty pricey though but it's not required (although I strongly recommend it since it's an all you can eat meal plan with a Monday-Thursday 24 hour dining hall (plus three more that have good hours as well). Their independent and distance learning online program is well priced too. It's about $700 for a three credit hour class.
Tips for prospective students APPLY EARLY ACTION. I applied for the regular deadline and I had to write like 5 essays (they were short though).
LOOK AT HOUSING CAREFULLY. I personally made sure I didn't get a freshman high rise. Some people like the bustling social environment that they offer. I just see it as loud and noisy so I took one of the small lower five dorms (the rooms in those are bigger too and you get your own sink in the room).
SIT IN THE FRONT ROW IN LECTURE HALLS: Seriously, you learn more, you stay more alert, and it feels less like a lecture hall, less intimidating.
DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE BUS SYSTEM: It's your friend. ; ) Get a bus route map and when in doubt just ask a bus driver where the bus is going. They're really friendly. I've never had one look at me like I was stupid for asking.
DON'T OVEREAT: The food is good...but it will be their all four years! Pace yourself and don't become a victim to the freshman 15...or 30.
DON'T FRONT: Yeah, it's a big school but just say hi to people and be yourself. We're all trying to figure this college thing out together (especially other freshmen).Great for these types of students Party type students (obviously. But I am NOT the party type). Music majors, journalism majors, food science majors (that program is really really good), anyone doing an agriculture related major (the advisers there are helpful and personable), and in general students who know how to balance fun with school because their WILL BE lots of opportunities to slack off but their are also LOTS of opportunities to succeed. : ) -Vanessa M. Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UGA has plenty of opportunities to learn and figure out what you are doing in life. The teachers are willing to help you out, and there are plenty of study abroad or non-traditional learning opportunities. You can learn a lot by just listening in class, or even attending an event on campus.
Am enjoying being here There's always something going on whether it be football games or club meetings. There are plenty of fraternities and sororities out there (we didn't get named the number one party school for nothing). And downtown Athens has plenty of fun shops and restaurants to try out. If you are looking for something new to try, check out the Medieval and Renaissance Club on Monday nights at Meyer's Quad. It's a real treat!
Bang for the buck The financial aid and basic counselors just go by the book. Sometimes it seems like they don't care what your situation is. If you don't fit in their tiny box, you are out of luck for getting help. The teachers are good, but underpaid, as a lot of the money goes towards the football team or other sports related funds. The dining halls are decent, but the food quality is not the greatest, and it's pretty pricey for what you are getting. Don't rely on anything in the dorms; UGA just overbooked by 500 freshman and had to request that some upperclassmen who had housing contracts already find other housing options.
Tips for prospective students Have an idea of what you are going to be doing in life, even if it's a few different options. Take advantage of your electives and core classes and use them to help you figure out where you are heading in life. It's better to try several options while you still have electives and settle on one choice rather than focus on one path from the start to find out it isn't really what you wanted to do.
Great for these types of students If you are artisticly-minded and looking for a big name school to come to, this is a good fit. It's also a good fit for those who are looking for a party or football team over better resources for education. The teachers do their best with what they have and try to help you out. If you already know that you won't be receiving much financial aid due to parents finances, try for a whole bunch of scholarships and private loans, as the financial aid department won't be able to do much for you.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students I don't think I have to tell you that UGA is a great school, so I'll skip it and tell you the rest.
First, if you'd like to attend, APPLY EARLY. I can't say that enough. The application is just plain easier, and focuses more on numbers (SAT, GPA, etc). So if you're good on paper (I'm talking without writing an essay), do that!
Second, don't be afraid. I was scared that UGA was too big for me. I changed my mind the minute I set foot on campus. There is something for everybody in Athens, and the town and school get smaller with every year you spend there.
Third, apply for scholarships! HOPE is great and all, but skip the stress over finances by being awarded money towards your education.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Bang for the buck Try and find people who have taken your classes before so you can buy your books from them. Books can cost a pretty penny, so you can usually get it a lot cheaper from friends or by looking at ebay or amazon. There are some classes where you can get by without even needing the book, which you can usually determine the first day or two of classes.
There are also a lot of GREAT free tutoring opportunities. So take advantage of them before you pay for tutors, or study with friends!Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At UGA I have learned not only the material required for me for my classes, but also the necessary skills to be successful at life. Time management and study skills are always helpful in whatever you are doing, and there is never a teacher who doesn't want to see you excel in their class. You may come across difficulties in your classes, and that is where forming a bond with your teacher or finding a tutor comes in hand. With these resources you are able to make use of the information you gain from classes and turn it into knowledge that you won't forget shortly after the test is complete.
Am enjoying being here There is always plenty to do, from various clubs to intramural sports. You will never find yourself bored with all the events, forums, and programs that often provide free food or a free t-shirt. At these events, you will make friends with different people outside of the people you meet in your dorm building. Dorm life itself it also very fun, once you get to know the people on your hall you will find that you all have a lot in common sometimes, or even if you don't you can expand your horizons as you all share your experiences.
Bang for the buck UGA is definitely worth the cost that you have to pay, because of the many opportunities that will be provided for you once you attend. You will meet people who have worked their way through several degrees as they guest speak at several of your classes, and from them you will learn exactly what it takes to achieve your goals.
Tips for prospective students If you're going into a science major I suggest that you take a science class during your final year. It will make your science classes at UGA somewhat easier. The science classes are tough classes and will challenge you to think. Also never be afraid to ask for help, there is plenty of help out at the school, and your professor's are always willing to help during their office hours. Also I advice that incoming students practice good studying skills.
Great for these types of students I believe UGA is great for all types of students who are looking to work hard, and have fun at the same time. There is something available for everyone, including tutors and study groups. The campus is always buzzing about something and offers many opportunities for those who attend.
