I got accepted for the summer and i have already took two classes here. The teachers are excellent and they really helped me start off on the right track. The summer program i was involved in (SEA) provided upcoming freshman like myself with tutors that were upper classman at the university and they were very resourceful.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus. It's an opportunity not only to get your degree and become successful. You meet new people along the way. Meeting people is very helpful in making sure you can get comfortable with the adjustment of the college life. The buildings are beautiful as well and the dorms are just right.

    Bang for the buck

They provided me with eight hundred fifty dollars in pell grants. The rest of the money that I'm using to pay for school is out of loans.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for all those prospective students is to stay focused on your studies and pass all of your exams. But don't forget to have fun! Get involved in extra curricular activities!

Great for these types of students

This campus would be perfect for anyone who wants the best college experience possible. The teachers are great and the parties are as well.

This school is very helpful and doesn't give up on you. If you need help you just have to ask, because most of the professors will help with you only if you try and not slack off. All it takes is a little bit of effort.

    Am enjoying being here

The school has a lot of events to attend and things like that. They try to make sure something is going on everyday even if it is something simple just to have everyone entertained.

    Bang for the buck

It may be a dig in the pockets but at the same time it has a lot to offer. This school is an HBCU to of course it's going to offer and be there as much as possible for all the African American students, even for those who are not. Don't forget about all the scholarships, FAFSA, loans and grants because there is some money out there to put in towards your tuition or just even your books.

    Tips for prospective students

    *Apply early.
    *Be open minded.
    *Never procrastinate.
*Make sure your study habits are up to par because it is just that easy to get off track in college.

Great for these types of students

If your really intrested in Criminal Justice major, this school is a really good place because it has the best of the professors to teach you and never tell you wrong. Also if your intrested in Math or Computer Science we got some of the best professors for that also, who will really work with you if you can't understand something.

Theres plenty of stuff on campus such as going bowling, playing pool, having Xbox 360 tournaments or playing table tennis in the Student Services Center with your friends. Theres also an indoors basketball court and a full football field.

    Bang for the buck

For the amount of money I'm spending compared to the the quality of education I'm getting and the number of activities that are available on campus for me, I am definitely getting my moneys worth.

    Tips for prospective students

Make friends right away and always be on time for classes.

Great for these types of students

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is a wonderful university to further your education at. You will be among a diverse population of students and faculty. As i biology major i have been presented with many great opportunities from meeting different types of people, volunteering at the local hospital, and doing a research project on the study of Malaria. Be open to new things and explore them here at UMES.

    Am enjoying being here

Although UMES is not in a major city, you can find plenty of interseting things to do. I have been to Ocen City, MD, Washington DC, Baltimore, MD, and Hampton, VA. These are places that are within 2 to 3 hours of campus. The Greyhound Bus also stops on campus for your traveling needs as well as a local shuttle to take you to Wal-Mart, the mall, and local shopping centers.

    Bang for the buck

If you have financial aid issues, the financial aid office is always willing to lend a hand. Do not hesitate to ask someone in any department for help. This university is quite affordable and there are scholarship opportunities, so if you find yourself in a bind ask for help.

    Tips for prospective students

Upon coming to UMES be ready to experience new things, makes friends, and make changes. As students you do have the power to improve this wonderful University. Come with an open mind ready and willing to not only learn but have some fun as well.

University Of Maryland Eastern Shore is a very diverse HBCU with so much to offer. The professor at the university are very hands on and always make them self available outside of the classroom and via personal email. The curriculum is very flexible and and straight foward; so its very hard to fall behind .

    Tips for prospective students

The biggest tip I would offer prospective students planning to attend is to be able to manage time properly. A big factor at being successful at not only UMES but universities all over is time management, students should be able to set up different time frames to get certain work done at certain time period, and tend to course work equally.

    Academic Rigor

Far as rigor with academics it depends on your professor, but 9/10 they don't wish to see you fail so as long as you show drive and/or determination to be willing to work, you'll do fine.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very comfortable and accommodating and there main goal is to make sure every resident is comfortable, and feels that their money is well spent. The dorms offer a kitchen, laundry room, common room/lounge, and computer room, which is help assist students on a daily because its goes along with there daily needs.
One suggestion I would make is the pricing to wash clothes. The washing and drying cost 1.75 each and that's very pricey on a college students budget.

    Food and Dining

The cafe is open from 7am to 7pm and has a large selection/variety of food for all students, its very tasty and the cafe workers are always nice with up beat attitudes.

    What to do for fun

Almost every weekend/week the university has multiple events that everybody will want to participate in. The university holds activities such as athletic games, school hosted parties, carnivals, haunted houses, and much much more.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Our midnight madness events for the welcoming and announcing of our football team occurs at midnight, where its a big celebration for our upcoming basketball team, and they showcase their talents to the student body as a whole.

Great for these types of students

All types of students will fit in here !!!!

    Clubs and Activities

Over 100 clubs/groups for students of all interest

    Greek Life

Currently only fraternities, no sororities yet but they are speaking of bringing sororities soon

    Campus Safety

Campus security steady patrols all through out the campus from sun up to sun down, and if ever needed for any type of emergency students are giving campus police number upon enrolling and they come to your immediate assistance

    Tips for prospective students

i would advise prospective students to gain a relationship with their professors. make sure they know who you are! if you have questions, ask! professors like when students ask questions; it lets them know that you're interested in what they're saying. also, keep up on your syllabus. it's your life line. lastly, keep all documents in a file just in case an office loses it.

    Food and Dining

    Bang for the buck

Great for these types of students

umes is great for minority students. there is a lot of african american culture on the campus. it's good going to school and seeing other people who look like you.

    Clubs and Activities

there aren't many clubs on campus, but there are a few that could interest you.

    Greek Life

the greek life really isn't that great on campus. the probates are usually interesting and they have parties occasionally.

    Campus Safety

the campus is open to the public, so it can only be so safe. there is usually some type of incident every semester.

UMES has great academic support for students as far tutoring.
Professors tend to help out a lot also, I find it easy to connect with most of my professors.
The Biology/ Chemistry program is also well known for those who plan to take a science major.

    Tips for prospective students

Always stay on top of your school work, never forget the reason for attending school.
    Work now and Play later.
Always give yourself that extra push and you will be surprised with what you can really do.
Students should also take advantage of helping their peers, because in many situations by helping and teaching others, you learn and teach yourself by just by reaching out to those in need.

    Dorm Life

for the female dorms, they are pretty descent.
    the apartments are nice.
for any dorm you have to learn to be open to new things because it isn't going to be the same as how you live at home, there are a lot of things to get use to when having a roommate.

    Food and Dining

Pretty much the same foods every week.
there isn't much selection around the campus area.
there is only one cafe in the school.

At UMES, you will learn a lot. The professors here are phenomenal. The accommodate you appropriately including giving students extra attention, if needed. There are a lot of extra resources here, such as, tutors, a library, and huge computer hall. The learning experience here is great.

    Am enjoying being here

I do enjoy being at UMES. Aside from the educational experience, the culture aspect of the school is the best! There are so many activities and organizations to join here on this campus. For example, I am apart of 3 organizations and 2 honor societies. I appreciate them because you're able to network and meet people from all over.
