Categories Rating Comments In three sentences umass boston is a commuter school so at times it seems like there isn't many opportunities to meet new people and make friends but there are plenty of clubs which is where most of me and my friends met. the professors are really interesting and the ones i have had really made it a point to help students in risk of failing or ones who are genuinely confused. this school also gives out a lot of financial aid so anyone in need of help, be sure to apply for all of their scholarships and work study programs.
Tips for prospective students apply for scholarships even if you don't think you need it, every cent helps. this school doesn't have dorms so the school helps in finding roommates for the apartment complex next door but sometimes that doesn't always work, i'd suggest to meet people at new-student day and room with them. also join as many clubs as you want and go to their events that is how you'll meet most of your friends.
Academic Rigor personally i am in the college of liberal arts so my classes are not too rigorous. a lot of my friends are in the college of math and sciences though and they feel like the work while there being a lot of it they don't feel to overwhelmed.
Dorm Life their are no dorms but the apartments are right next door and they are really nice apartments. they are also in walking distance of the t.
Food and Dining the caf has a lot of options and since there is no dorms the grocery store is right down the road in walking distance of the t and the apartments.
What to do for fun near the school is a 24 hour bowling alley and the t runs till 12:30 so all the clubs in boston are at your disposal.
Great for these types of students students who are outgoing and love getting involved.
Clubs and Activities there are a ton of them and if one doesn't fit what you are interested in it only takes 15 signatures to create a club.
Greek Life none.
Campus Safety i have never felt unsafe there and i spend some nights there till almost midnight.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love the classes and my teachers. Its really cool to be in such a diverse environment.
Am enjoying being here Honestly, I had the most horrific experiences with my roommates and the housing here. The Office of Student Housing is awful. They are not helpful and they don't have an effective system in place. If you have any problems with your roommates, the school says they have resources but... I have not had good experiences with them. I've been in contact with the Dean of Students and the Director of Student Housing and neither of them have done much to help me. To read more about my experiences I have a UMB Blog at http://blogs.umb.edu/emilylevin002/
Bang for the buck The cost is low but paying for an apartment can get pretty pricey.
Tips for prospective students DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE GOING TO RENT AN APARTMENT. So many things can go wrong. And you won't get ANY help from the school. Even if they assure you that they will help you, take it from someone who's been there and done that.
Great for these types of students Still living with their parents or adults going back to school

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Large research university with alot of accessible courses. The university also have alot of nice professors that offers the extra help to thier students. And what is a college/university with out the students? The students are social and some are nicer than others.
Tips for prospective students If you are planning on attending UMB come with a smile and willing to meet people because if you dont, then your time at UMB might be boring. The University is a great school for me because its not too big and its not too small. Always use ratemyprofessor.com before choosing your class because some professors arent so great.
Academic Rigor Some classes are much more complex and complicating than others, but if you are willing to learn and willing to seek help from professors, tutors and other students, you will do fine whether if the course is hard or not. I failed my first Bio exam with a 56 and I found a study partner and my second exam grade was a whopping 89. So seeking help works!
Dorm Life Sadly, there is no dorm life here at UMB, however, they have apartments near by which many students house in. If you meet the right people, you can hang out and study with them at their apartments which give the feeling of the dorm life.
Food and Dining There is about 3 cafeterias at UMB. The major one is located in the Campus Center and it has Burger King, Pizzeria, Make your salad station, a healthy sandwich shop, a soup counter and others and a new Mexican burrito/wrap kiosk. So there is a variety of dining that is offered.
What to do for fun I go to the Gym in the McCormack building, and I usually go swimming in the athletic center right when it gets warmer. They have a lot of clubs offered also, so you will end up finding something that you like.
Clubs and Activities A Lot of clubs, such as; Asian club, Black Student Center (BSC), GLBT Club, Women's Club. By the way, you don't have to be a certain ethnicity in order to join the club, it is over for ALL race, age, sexual orientation - no restrictions.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning, but the 2 math teachers and 1 physics teacher that I had in my freshman year were horrible.
Both my math teachers cannot explain well.
My physics teacher expects everyone in his intro physics class to be physics majors, while in reality, none of us was planning to major in physics. You'll learn something, definitely, but your grade will suffer dramatically.Am enjoying being here This place doesn't technically have a campus, so there's really no place to hang out at. You have to leave to somewhere else to hang out.
Bang for the buck The school charges you medical insurance that you'll need to go to Wiser and waive it on your own. They don't tell you how with the hope of ripping off $2,000 off of you. You have to keeping asking until you get some worker really annoyed and they tell you how to waive it. This is nothing short of a scam.
Books in math & science field changes per year, so that student have to constantly pay $150 - $250 per book. Rip Off!!!Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I think the professors are great, although not all, most are very helpful and teach well.
Am enjoying being here It is a friendly environment and people seem to be very open to new friendships.
Bang for the buck The tuition is not as expensive as other universities in the area and the professor teach well.
Tips for prospective students Keep up with all the school work, join clubs and different organizations. Do not be afraid to ask for help whether from a fellow classmate, professor, or tutor.
Great for these types of students It is a great school for students who want to peruse their careers while obtaining part-time jobs.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The campus, faculty, and staff at UMass Boston are great. The majority of professors are really helpful and want you to succeed and learn.
Tips for prospective students Get involved as soon as you step foot in the door. I can't imagine my life without the experiences I've had by joining the Student Arts and Events Council, the track team, and a member for Beacon Voyages for Service.
Academic Rigor The course work is hard, but interesting. They really want you to know how to write and apply what you are learning in the lectures to everyday life. It can be surprising how hard the materials can be.
Dorm Life Although the area is fantastic, there are no dorms only apartments and the rent is expensive in the luxury apartments.
Food and Dining The food is expensive and the quality is not that great.
What to do for fun For fun, there is a game room that can be pretty live but also being involved in the Students Arts and Events Council is fun by gaining volunteer hours, getting free stuff, meeting new people, and having a say in what goes on campus.
