Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Mizzou is a huge learning experience in every aspect. I've learned not only about my subjects but about good study habits, organizational habits and myself. The teachers are generally understanding but tough and if you take the time to talk to them and work with them they will do everything in their power to help you succeed.
Am enjoying being here The constant activity and friendships I've had and made at has made Mizzou a second home for me. I love it there and I visit every chance I get in the summer.
Bang for the buck It's extremely pricey but worth it for all of the experiences they offer you and discounts you get on touring Broadway plays, concerts and food. But like I said it is extremely pricey and will set you back. I'm having to take a semester off to take some gen ed courses at community college to save money and I'm taking another semester off just to work to help pay. SCHOLARSHIPS AND LOANS ARE YOUR FRIENDS!
Tips for prospective students Study hard and don't get distracted by everything there is to do on campus. Mizzou is a lot of fun, buzzing with constant activity between sports, concerts, speakers and other special events but you can't let that get in the way of your academics. Mizzou is an educational facility first and they won't waste time letting you know that. Make sure you find the right group of people to be around who can help you succeed and have fun. Also, as in much of life, listening to those who have experienced it can help a lot so take as much advice from upperclassmen as possible. Finally, and this applies to any school, DON'T OVER WORK YOURSELF. When you're first registering for classes they're going to try and get you to sign up for about 16+ hours, DON'T LET THEM! It's important to remember that as an incoming freshmen you're adjusting to a new lifestyle and a new way of learning so take it easy your first semester. Start with around 12-14 credits (unless you have a scholarship that says otherwise... than do the bare minimum you have to do for them) so you can get settled and comfortable. Then second semester you can start to add more hours.
Great for these types of students This school is best for people who can balance well and who want the full college experience. The music department is great and extremely underrated around the country. kind of a little hidden gem in the world of music schools, so I highly recommend it to people who want to work in the music world. Also under their catagory of hidden gems, their psychology department is rated one of the highest compared to other state schools in the country. Not to mention it's engineering, agriculture and journalism schools that have helped it's reputation of great education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Mizzou so far has been a great experience for me. I am currently about to start my sophomore year and I feel with the help and opportunities I had freshman year that I am ready to face the challenges on taking classes more in-depth to my major. Mizzou has a great general education requirement that allowed me to take classes that were outside my major and I primarily had no interest in, that opened my eyes to other opportunities and actually lead me to change my major to biology based on my general requirement class and how much I enjoyed the subject and the professors. Mizzou has also helped me gain confidence in my studies, before I was a constant C- math student always ruining my A/B's with that one C in math, but thanks to the Learning Center ( a student oriented, free tutoring service) they paired me with the perfect tutor who was willing to go above and beyond and helped me come out of Algebra with a new appreciation for the subject. Of course what is college with out your extracurricular and social life? There is so much to do at Mizzou I can barely touch base on it, every club you can think of is there, and even some that might peak your interest in something new. I wanted to try something new and now I work on the television show the Dynamo Effect for MUTV and have made some great friends, joining a club that is relevant for your major and one for something you may enjoy can help you strike a balance between work and play. Also Mizzou has a great dorm systems where they aren't too far apart for each other so visiting friends is a breeze and the nightlife is amazing for a town its size. The downtown area blends into the campus being a 10 minute walk from the center (Brady Commons) of campus. There are lots of nights for the under 21 crowd as well as places to eat and vintage and boutiques to shop at. The sporting events make for a fun free night (or discounted if you have a student pass) and every Friday night Mizzou after Dark plans something free for students, $5 for the public to do. I am 12 hours away from home and started out knowing not one person there. Now I am making friends that feel like family and making great grades for college that I didn't think I was prepared for. Mizzou is a wonderful experience for anyone who chooses to go. You just have to have the drive and confidence to find your niche.
Tips for prospective students Say hi to everyone on your floor, that will be your family and home away from home, at least until you start meeting people in your 500+ student lecture halls.
Join clubs or do intramural sports, its a great way to relieve stress and to do something you enjoy while networking and meeting new people.
Use your resources- YOU ARE PAYING FOR SCHOOL, and basically a lot of salaries around there so don't let anyone a professor, TA or tutor take advantage of that, get help when you realize you need it and before it becomes too late. Some classes you only get 3 grades and after a bad one it is hard to bring it up.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor this is the best place in missouri to learn/earn the degree you want.
Will enjoy being here I can certainly tell you that they have so much fun and cool things to do there. Their Homecoming celebration, it lasts 2 WEEKS!! (FYI: Mizzou was the first to start Homecoming celebrations). They also have a new Rec. Center that has anything a Sports/Athletics junky could want.
Bang for the buck mu is a bit pricey with the tuition rates and their high end dorm rooms, but when it comes to most other colleges that offer what mizzou does for students to do, it's easy to say that it's the the better deal.
Tips for prospective students if you go to this school, don't walk in and get pulled in by all the frills and thrills that the school offers. stay focused on your work, study, and then, if you have time, work in extra stuff that you can do on times when you have a gap between classes. don't forget, find scholarships and loans that you can use to pay for tuition and other costs. when looking at loans make sure it can be easily payed off later, you don't want it hanging over your head long after your out of school. find local jobs that can be easily worked into your school schedule and work for classes, my suggestion would be, if you like working with kids, adventure club. adventure club staff is predominantly college students and works great with any class schedule. finally, don't overload yourself with tons of extras and credit hours just because it says in your degree qualifications, this is only recommended for the students who want to get out quickly and are able to take the load. but don't let all of this bum you out, have fun when it's appropriate and find good friends that can help you through school but not act as a distraction/easy-way-out.
Great for these types of students anyone who has good study and organization skills, keeps up on grades and easily works with their instructors.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Your first day at Mizzou will be probably one of the best days of your life. However, you will learn quick the ways of college. The people at this school do an amazing at job at introducing people to one another by having several events during the first week to get people to bond together.
Am enjoying being here Seriously, I don't think I'd ever consider going to another school. Football games, thousand's of students, and the greek life here are simply phenomenal. [NOT TO MENTION WE JUST BEAT OKLAHOMA :)] The spirit we have here makes these four years the best of your life. Time fly's while you're having fun!
Bang for the buck This is a decently expensive college, but they do a good job with financial aid and ensuring that their students have the financial support they need. To be on the safe side however, make sure you apply for scholarships. (There's an amazing book store and it's very easy to student charge clothing and other items which makes your tuition rise quick)
Tips for prospective students ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS attend class. I was sitting in a lecture hall when one third of the class decided to leave early. The professor ended up giving everyone who stayed 10 extra credit points on the final exam.
Make sure you take good notes, make friends, and have study groups. Having friends in a class will be the most beneficial thing.Great for these types of students Any type of student. The great thing about Mizzou is that everyone is so incredibly different and unique. There is always something interesting you can learn by just meeting different students here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Mizzou is well known for its schools of medicine, veterinary medicine, law, and journalism. Going to Mizzou for a career in one of these schools will be one of the best investments a student could make. Having said that, Mizzou is exemplary in all aspects of education, but other degrees could be earned with an equal reputation and expertise at another, and less expensive, school. Being in the journalism school myself, I am aware that it is top tier in the country and I will not be hard pressed to find a job after graduation. The experience j students earn at Mizzou is unlike any other institution in the United States- not to mention the study abroad internship opportunities for students of any background. Plus, the size and diversity of degree options is helpful when a student changes majors. There is always another path to choose at Mizzou.
Am enjoying being here Columbia is the perfect transition into the real world. Mizzou itself is a liberal atmosphere set in a conservative midwestern town. There are so many organizations to get involved in anyone can fit in anywhere. Greek town is a huge part of Mizzou life- their presence in Mizzou can be felt through their community service and the AMAZING parties. There are other non-greek community service organizations, clubs, free student activities to get involved in. We have free comedians (Lewis Black), concerts (Spill Canvas) and monthly outdoor movies to enjoy, outside of the bars and comedy clubs in downtown Columbia. Plus, the tigers and basketball are amazing, even for usually non-sports fans (me).
Bang for the buck If you have a set plan of what you want from college, whether you want to study abroad, and what you want out of your career, and you still feel that Mizzou can provide that, then you will get the bang for the buck. If you're undecided, getting general education requirements out of the way at a community college will save you a TON in the future. There is nothing a community college can't provide as far as gen eds that Mizzou can. Plus, Mizzou has a decent scholarship pool, but considering the increasing student population and demands for scholarships, they are being allocated more and more to Walter Williams scholars (33 ACT and top 10% in graduating class). Don't meet those? Neither do I. Mizzou's scholarships are severely lacking compared to Truman or Webster University in St. Louis. But if you love Mizzou, and are determined to go no where else, you can always scour websites like cappex to find scholarships for yourself. If you really love Mizzou you can always find a way to pay for it.
Tips for prospective students If you're in AP classes now and have an idea of what your major may be, make an appointment with your guidance counselor and make sure you AP credits will count towards your degree. Otherwise you find out the hard way, and its not cool.
Great for these types of students If you're a student that will try to make Columbia your new home and get involved, then you will love Columbia. But it can be a very lonely and big place if you stay in your shell. (And definitely buy the student season ticket combo because the sports are excellent and a great way to meet other people)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Honestly, Mizzou is one of those schools where you definitely get in what you put in. If you want As, the teachers are going to make you work for them, and doing the bare minimum won't get you a C, it'll get you a D or an F, but Mizzou is NOT a difficult school. I think if anything you get a lot of life experiences here, the teachers do care about your success and there are so many opportunities for you to succeed. All in all, I've learned so much about myself here as well as academically, I would give Mizzou a 5, except I live in the library sometimes, and that's no fun.
Am enjoying being here I love it here! When I say there's something for everyone, I kid you not. There are over 500 student organizations alone. As far as social life, and partying. There's a fair amount of that. I think it all depends on the people you hang out with. For the under 21 crowd, there's house parties, and on thursdays a few clubs will let you in, but for the most part, partying downtown is out. But, that doesn't really ruin much for me, I mean it's super easy to meet people here and everyone's pretty friendly.
Bang for the buck Definitely, definitely worth the money. It will set you back quite a bit, I've been here for 2 years, 24,000 in debt! That's crazy, but it's reality. But we have a brand new student center, best gym (we call it the rec) ever, and a ton of other little perks, like computer labs everywhere, the Student Health Center, where you can go anytime you get sick, for FREEE, like seriously, whatever you could possibly be looking for, Mizzou has thought of and has, and continues to add. Not to mention excellent education. I'm accepted to the number one journalism school in the country. That's mindblowing!! How many people can say they went to the number one school in the country for their profession? I don't like debt, but if I thought for a second that it wasn't worth it, I would leave.
Tips for prospective students Basically, I'd have to say what one of the other reviewers said, and that's STAY FOCUSED. Mizzou has a ton of great opportunities and so much to do, but you're really here for one reason and that's to get an education. It's easy to get distracted but if you just TIME MANAGE a little bit, you'll be fine. Just don't get behind on your work, and ask for help if you need it. If there's one thing Mizzou has, it's plenty of help.
Great for these types of students Mizzou is great for students wanting to branch out, for students wanting to have a big college experience and still have personal relationships, and for students who want to succeed in life. If you're willing to work hard and have fun. The University of Missouri is the place for you.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Mizzou has a beautiful campus, great tradition, academics, and campus-wide activities. There are so many different things to get involved with and things to do. Of course, attending college in Missouri isn't the most appealing, but MU has been a great choice for me.
Tips for prospective students You don't have to know what you intended major will be! Undecided is the third most popular choice for undergrads on campus. Take classes that could potentially guide you to your eventual major.
Academic Rigor Very challenging classes, but also very rewarding.
Dorm Life No problems at all. Lucked out with a great roommate.
Food and Dining Great food compared to other Universities that I've experienced.
What to do for fun Downtown Columbia has plenty of great restaurants, bars, etc. True/False Film Festival every year in late February / early March.
Bang for the buck I've had a great experience and done a lot as a Freshman. Missouri Method in the J-School gets you involved right away.
Greek Life Very active, competitive, and fun.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the university of missouri has a great journalism school, veterinary school and nursing program. it is also know to be a national botanical garden, so expect a beautiful scenery if you visit here in the summer. also, the research opportunities here are excellent.
Tips for prospective students if you're interested in research, take a semester to get used to campus and settle into your extracurricular activities before you commit yourself to a research project.
Academic Rigor your academics are only as hard as you make them out to be.
Dorm Life living in a dorm is really nice. several renovations have been made in order to provide a friendly living environment for students who live in a dorm.
Food and Dining the food is better than eating in a high school cafeteria. i recommend plaza or dobbs for their variety in foods.
What to do for fun there are several things to do for fun. whether joining a club, being involved in campus activities like mizzou after dark, or going off of campus to have fun, there are opportunities of entertainment everywhere. columbia is not a boring town.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus once you come to mizzou, you'll lean everything you need to know about our traditions. :)
Great for these types of students mizzou is great for students who are devoted to school work and for those who just want to develop their skills for the future.
Clubs and Activities anything you want to do, you have the opportunity of turning that into a club or an activity if it isn't already here at mizzou.
Greek Life greek life helps build connections whether in a service, social, or honors fraternity/ sorority.
Campus Safety mupd is always patrolling around campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the university of missouri is fantastic. i wanted to go to a college that was outside of missouri, perhaps on a coast, but because of financial problems i was not able to do that. however, i consider having gone to university of missouri as one of the best things that has happened to me.
Tips for prospective students for future students, i would say to make sure that you keep up with your studies. with all the activities and fun available, it is easy to get distracted. definitely make frequent appointments with your major advisor and purposefully get to know all of your professors.
Academic Rigor i am in some honors classes, and i know from experience that the work is challenging. however, it's not just the honors classes. every class i have been in so far has provided good work for me and forced me to spend a great deal outside of class studying.
Dorm Life i absolutely love my hall and floor. they are some of my closest friends. if i could live in the dorms for all four years, i probably would. the leaders on the floors are great too, very personable and friendly.
Food and Dining there are a lot of food options at mizzou, with over six dining halls to choose from and plenty of other food options outside of the regular meal plans.
What to do for fun downtown columbia surprised me because although it is relatively small, especially coming from inner city kansas city, there is so much to do each and every day. i spend almost every day down there, hanging out in a coffee shop or exploring an art gallery.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University of Missouri is a huge financial and academic commitment but is has been the best commitment I have made so far in my life. There are several top notch degree programs and colleges on campus. If you are thinking about being a Journalism major it is THE best school to go to. I was automatically accepted into the School of Journalism...it has been the best experience. As a freshman I have learned so much about the industry, learned how to network, and learned how to set myself up for success as a journalist. The professors have all been successful professionals in their field and have so much to teach future journalist. As a freshman this past year I was in a Freshman Interest Group, that helped me meet people on my dorm floor and get involved. Through this group I volunteered at a retirement home close to campus, I suggest to anyone and everyone to volunteer somewhere. I loved spending my time at the retirement home. It was a learning experience in itself.
Am enjoying being here The campus is gorgeous and offers so much for students to do. It can be overwhelming at first but get involved! As a freshman I joined AAF Mizzou, the advertising club on campus and served as the only freshman on the executive board as the secretary. I got to help older students with a national competition, visit companies in my field, and learn from current professionals. This up coming year I will be serving on the executive board as Assistant Vice President of Public Relations. Joining clubs and getting involved makes the campus feel small and eventually like home. I am also a part of Greek Life on campus. I can honestly say that I love my sorority and have met so many people from all over the country because of joining. Its another great way to get involved because it's own little community. If going Greek is not something you're interested in, no big deal! There is plenty to do on and off campus for a social life. Downtown is awesome! Plenty of restaurants and 18 and older bars and dance clubs.
Bang for the buck Like I said before, Mizzou is a huge financial commitment but you get to experience college at one of the best schools in the U.S. Academics are top notch, athletics are awesome and the student body is phenomenal. Professors are there to make your education the best it can possibly be and the school spirit is like nothing else!
Tips for prospective students Number one GET INVOLVED!!!!! There are too many opportunities on campus not to get involved.
Two try to get as many scholarships as possible to lessen the financial part.
Three go to at least one football game! A tiger game is the best!Great for these types of students You have got to know how to balance a social life and academics. And prioritize what is most important...Academics over a party any night!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors really know their material. All of or professors have to write books and have a Ph.D in their prospective fields. We are bascially reading our professor materials. You can also have one-on-one talks with your professors for extra help with their very flexible office hours. If you need even more help, we have a student learning center that can provide you tutoring in any field you need tutoring in. MIZZOU is the greatest! =)
Am enjoying being here There's plenty to do around campus and off campus. We're not that far from the downtown district and it's very easy to find your way around. We also have public transportation that is great for getting you to Walmart, Target, or the Columbia Mall as well as the movie theaters.
Bang for the buck We're always hiring on campus whether you want to work at our state of the art Student Rec, rated #1 by Sports Illustrated, or at one of the many dining facilities. I was also fortunate enough to receive plenty of financial aid where I didn't have to pay a dime out of pocket for my first year of college.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of the campus to get the feel of our glorious atmosphere. Even though Missouri is cold in the winters, I'm sure you'll find the campus breathtaking as well as the friendly students around campus that you can stop to ask questions.
Great for these types of students I never wanted to stay in Missouri for college, but now that I'm at the University of Missouri (better known as MIZZOU!) I love it! I couldn't imagine being as happy as I am now, anywhere else. The people are very helpful and friendly and you'll immediately fall in love!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Mizzou is a great place to be. Even if you struggle in a class you will learn a lot. The professors are highly intelligent and are very nice people.
Am enjoying being here The culture at Mizzou is great. From the Tiger Walk freshmen year, to homecoming, to all the sports events. You will always feel excitement at Mizzou. The parties aren't bad either.
Bang for the buck I give this 3 stars not because you don't get bang for you buck; its because Mizzou REALLY wants their bucks. I have plenty of friends have to leave because of their financial situations. You get a great overall experience but they will pressure you for their money.
Tips for prospective students - GO TO CLASS!!!!!!
- Figure out how you study. This can be one of the most important things and you should do this early.
- Mizzou is a big campus but buildings are a lot closer that they appear on maps so get used to thinking something is further than it really is.
- Don't try to cram at the last minute. It might work it might not so do your studying a few days ahead if you can.Great for these types of students All students.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Mizzou is a wonderful school that challenges you academically. Aside from the great education you receive, there are a great number of activities you can join, so everyone fits in. There's something for EVERYONE at Mizzou!
Tips for prospective students Try to get involved, but don't get so involved that you lose focus on what you came for, education. Make sure that you always set aside time to study, and prepare for class, because it can trip you up in the end. Mizzou offers all of the help you may need, however, try to stay away from the bookstore and student charging!
Academic Rigor The University of Missouri is a great school to come to if you are ready to learn. Although some lecture classes are very large (400 people), there are always TAs to help you understand, as well as tutoring and office hours. Harder subjects like foreign languages or English will be smaller, so you'll be perfectly fine.
Dorm Life Dorm Life is one of the BEST parts of Mizzou. As soon as you move in, everyone makes a huge effort to introduce themselves. Every hall has been or is being modified, so everything is perfect and the room sizes are decent, except for Gillett/Hudson where the rooms are half the size of regular rooms. Also, try to get involved in Hall Government, it looks great on resumes!!
Food and Dining To be honest, the food is one of the reasons I chose Mizzou. You like Chinese, go to Sabai, you like Mexican, go to baja... there are SO many choices. The staff is also very nice AND the dining halls always offer jobs just incase you need extra cash.
What to do for fun There shouldn't be any reason why you get bored at Mizzou because there is literally always something going on. There are always parties or sports games or even fashion shows! The only reason you wouldn't have fun is if you just stayed in your room all day and didn't try to meet anyone.
Bang for the buck Mizzou is a bit expensive. I'm in-state and my father went there and it's STILL expensive. I honestly feel like if you don't want to go for Journalism, it's almost a waste of money, but they do spoil you and there are so many scholarships available. There is even work study, but the price could still be brought down some.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus When you're a freshman, you do a Tiger Walk through the Columns to symbolize your entrance into Mizzou. If you're worried about an exam, you can rub the nose of the David R. Francis nose and it's supposed to get you an A. Also, there is a building called Memorial Union, it was built to honor the student soldiers that died in WWII and when you walk under it, you are supposed to take off your hat and be quiet to honor those who fought for our country.
Great for these types of students Mizzou is a great school if you're lively and want the total college experience. If you don't mind a very large campus, and want to get involved in every way you can imagine, come here. It would also be a good idea if you want to be apart of the number one Journalism school in the country.
Clubs and Activities If you do not find anything to do here, it is your fault. There is a club or sport for everyone and if not... you can make one! We even have a quidditch team, come on, you've GOT to find something.
Greek Life The greek life at Mizzouis very involved. There are Panhellenic (historically black) and non- Panhellenic organizations, and they all work together so there are no problems. But if you don't get involved, you are still very well accepted.
Campus Safety Little to no crime happens on the campus, and if it does, there are clergy reports sent to everyone's email to warn them of the occurrence. There are emergency stations spread all throughout the campus so if you ever feel in danger, just press a little button and help is on the way. The campus is really large and I've even walked around at night and felt safe.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Missouri at Columbia is a college that is geared toward academic excellence. It has professors and teaching assistants who are knowledgeable and who take time to try to get to know their students. The faculty is open to answering questions and developing student interests.
Tips for prospective students Know that you are paying for the opportunity to learn from some of the greatest minds in their field and do not be afraid to ask questions. Take advantage of the facilities that are available to you, such as the recreation center and the theater. Enjoy your independence, but set limits for yourself and stick to them.
Academic Rigor The University of Missouri - Columbia, sets high standards for their students, but they also make help available for those who desire it. You will not be short-changed in your academic education here. Professors, no matter what their status, are eager and willing to talk to students and to help them understand concepts; just ask them.
Dorm Life Dorms are set up so that you can enter a dorm that houses people with similar interests or professional aspirations. They have many activities so that there is always something for a person to do or some way to meet more people. If there are problems or issues of concern, there is always someone there to assist you.
Food and Dining There are several dining halls, and you are not restricted to any single dining hall. The university makes it very easy to access nutritious food in an environment that is pleasant to be in. There are many options available to a student for places to eat, using their dining card.
What to do for fun The university has many activities that are on campus, including music festivals, movies, and sports (the Missouri Tiger football and basketball teams, in particular). The town is a college town, so there are many street events. There are also activities put on by fraternities and sororities and by independents, as well.
Bang for the buck This is a state university, so it is not as expensive as a private university. I would challenge anyone to find a better learning institution, however. And because it is so diverse, it carries the opportunity to learn much more than just academics - it is a model for experiencing life in a setting where you are free to make mistakes and to learn from them.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Jesse Hall has been there forever and is the center of campus. It is a museum unto itself. The student union is also a place that has some changes but is a fortress that binds the campus and alumni together.
Great for these types of students The University of Missouri is so large that there is truly something for everyone. If you are athletic, it has the 5th highest rated recreational center in the country. The university also has majors and activities and sponsors available for any interest you can imagine!
Clubs and Activities There are clubs available to all interests. There are clubs for athletes and non-athletes. There are chess clubs, science clubs, forensic clubs, and much, much more. There are also political clubs and clubs to explore any interest you might have.
Greek Life There are many sororities and fraternities on campus and off campus. There is one for any type of personality. Greek Life sponsors many activities and provides assistance to others in need, as well.
Campus Safety The campus is extremely well lit, and there are campus police who are always close by. One of the greatest security measures the campus has to protect everyone is the availability of someone to take someone home who has been drinking too much. No questions are asked, and for everyone's safety, someone is kept off the road who could possibly hurt him/herself or others.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences My school is amazing. The campus is beautiful, most of the teachers are great and understanding and the student rec center is amazing. There are so many opportunities there and so many organizations to get involved with!
Tips for prospective students Get involved your very first semester and map out your classes prior to the first day of classes. Talk to your teachers and get to know them! Eat healthy and don't pack on the freshman 15, theres no excuse because there is an amazing rec center!
Academic Rigor At Mizzou, there aren't many easy classes. Even the pre-requisite classes require a ton of studying, so it's best to evenly divide your time amongst all of the courses you're taking. Also, I have learned that talking to your teachers and showing your face helps out A LOT!
Dorm Life The dorms are great, there are suite style, traditional, singles and doubles. There is also off campus housing which are very nice as well. At all of the other colleges I visited, Mizzou had the best dorms hands down. Most of them are newer and they are very nice inside and out, they are kept up every weekday and they feel like a home away from home!
Food and Dining There are a lot of diners to choose from, Plaza is my personal favorite. Plaza, Dobbs and Rollins are buffet style dining halls and there are monthly themes for holidays and sometimes just random themes such as late night breakfast! Plus, if the dining halls don't have what you want theres always Morts (amazing waffle fries with cheese and turkey burgers!), Bucks (ice cream, for a sweet tooth) and there are tons of places in the student center!
What to do for fun In the beginning of the year, the campus is always lively. There are always activities going on on campus, from jump rope competitions to ice cream socials. The student center usually has activities almost every friday in the beginning of the year. Also, there are activities that go on in the dorms, sometimes the whole dorm gets together and sometimes just the floor gets together to play games or watch the Tigers win!
Campus Safety I always feel safe on campus, even at night if i'm walking by myself. There are emergency response poles that are illuminated at night and when the buttons are pressed on the poles, someone will come to your aid in 3 minutes or less. Also, campus police are always on campus and making rounds. dorms lock after a certain hour and only residents of the dorm can swipe their cards into their buildings. I always feel safe on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is a very great school, friendly people, and great environment.
Tips for prospective students Go to class! Don't let procrastination get the best of you, study early and keep up with your grades!
Academic Rigor Classes are good, and you learn a lot.
Dorm Life My experience was great. I had a clean roommate, and I only had to share a bathroom with four people. Everybody on your floor sort of becomes like your little family for the year.
Food and Dining After a while the food gets repetitive and you get tired of it, so you start to order out more.
What to do for fun explore downtown with your friends, go to a couple of frats on the weekends. You'll hear about a lot of parties by word of mouth. Go to the probates, they are a lot of fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You have to ride the tiger !
Clubs and Activities get involved as much as you can.
Greek Life Don't try and pledge anything your first year if you can't handle it. Try to learn about all of them first before you decide if it's best for you.
Campus Safety There is very few crimes on campus, nothing big, maybe a robbery here and there, but security tries to stay on top of things as much as they can. There are a lot of emergency buttons to push around campus, but they're just spread out, but you'll know where they are once you see them.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Missouri is a great school, that provides amazing opportunities for the students. Education is a top priority while still providing many outlets for entertainment and school spirit.
Tips for prospective students Join a FIG (Freshmen Interest Group). In addition to providing ease within dorm assignments, FIGs allow for friendships to be easily made. The people within your FIG live on your floor, are in the same major, and generally are enrolled in the same classes. If you ever have a question on a homework assignment or want a group of people to study with for the upcoming exam, all you have to do is walk down the hall. FIGs provide opportunities for friendship and study groups.
Academic Rigor Academically, there are always going to be some classes harder than others. However, if you study and actually go to class it is not that bad. Class sizes range from 15-300 depending on the topic. That having been said, even the professors teaching the 300 student lecture take the time and offer help to any students who ask for it.
Dorm Life As stated previously, Freshmen Interest Groups really help with the ease into college life by providing an immediate friend group. In addition, all freshmen are required to live on campus for their first year. This allows not only for friendships to be made but also for students to become more comfortable on campus as well as providing the convenience of being able to walk to all of your classes without having to worry about parking.
Food and Dining There are many different dining halls located across campus, each providing something different at each meal, as well as different options of food to choose from.
What to do for fun Downtown Columbia, is located within walking distance of campus. There are movie theatres, bowling allies within a 5 minute drive, and a pool hall in the student center. The Recreation Center on campus also provides the Jungle Gym which provides over 100 pieces of cardio equipment, over 50 strength/conditioning machines, as well as free weights and treadmills. Scroggs Peak which is the indoor rock climbing tower. The Pump Room offers platform weight lifting, squat racks, a multi-station machine, a Smith machine with free weights and dumbbell racks set to a fantastic house sound system. The Rec also has 5 Racquetball and Squash courts, over 10 Basketball courts, Tiger X Studios for workout classes. The 50m competitive pool, as well as diving complex provide many opportunities for all athletes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Game day: Wear Gold, Arrive early, Stay late.
Clubs and Activities There are hundreds of different clubs at Mizzou. Anything you want to have a club for, you can have a club as long as you have a faculty advisor and at least 5 members.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Mizzou is a good college for those who don't mind paying the extra dollar or those who can handle the big campus. The teacher's are lacking a bit so don't always expect what you learn in class to be the exam. Rely on teaching yourself from your textbook.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you ask current students before choosing a professor or even looking on sites online like www.ratemyprofessor.com . This could be the difference between you passing and failing a class.
Academic Rigor For every one good teacher hear there is 40 bad teachers. All the teachers know the subject well but they are horrible at communicating it to the student.
Dorm Life The dorms rooms are small but that is to be expected with any college. Alot of the dorms have a problem with the water tasting funny and i believe this is due to the calcium build up on the pipes so bring a water filter.
Food and Dining The first few weeks you will think the food is excellent, but after awhile the food options become monotonous and the options that they are serving will rarely match up with the menu posted. Also, if your a vegetarian its every man for himself; most of your meals will end up being carrots and a dinner roll.
What to do for fun The campus is never short for planning activities. Although most of the student population does not attend. A huge attraction here is the rec center ,but don't let that be the deciding factor on the school. Most students will only go at the beginning of the school year, before spring break, and before summer.
Bang for the buck You get what you pay for. If you are wishing to go to another university the professors will most likely be better but they also cost more. ON the other hand it may cost 2X as much as a local college but the experience is a lot better than that of a community college
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus 7 Traditions of Mizzou
1. climb the dome of Jesse hall, which is 105 feet tall. The best way to approach this is to climb the rain spout instead of using the latter- but beware of cameras and alarms!
2.explore the tunnels that run from the power plant to Schlundt Hall and the Chemistry Building. Another tunnel runs from the basement of Jesse Hall to Switzler Hall. The best way to achieve this is to find a man hole that is covered by grates, but beware of the alarm system.
3.kiss the 50-yard line at Faurot field that is named after coach Don Faurot. In order to do this you need to figure out how to get through the locked gate, but rumor has it that there are silent motion sensors on the field.
4.Streaking across the Quad is the fourth tradition. The only way to approach this to build up the courage and to not look back.
5.ride the tiger in Tiger Plaza. The tiger is roughly around 11 feet tall. When climbing the tiger, it is best to have someone help you up. You can get extra points for having more people on the tiger at one time.
6.swim in Brady Foundation located in Tiger Plaza as well. Just putting your toes in the foundation doesn’t count you must go all in. If you extra points then you can swim laps in it.
7.scream “I love Mizzou” in Speaker Circle. This tradition will help you embrace your First Amendment rights. The louder the better, and make sure to show your Mizzou pride especially right before a KU game.
WARNING: only #5 and #7 are legal!
Great for these types of students This is a great school for those who wish to participate in greek life.
Clubs and Activities There is an endless amout of clubs on campus and ost are good about keeping you informed.
Greek Life Greek life is huge on the mizzou campus.
Campus Safety There are stations with alarms across the campus and the main part of campus is lit up. However, there are parts of campus that are unlit and i have herd of at least four people getting mugged this year. There is most likely more but they do very well on keeping issues like these quiet. The ones I know about are only from participating in the student government.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences There is a good college-town vibe here. The professors really seem to know exactly what they're doing. The vastness of the campus is overwhelming, but refreshing.
Tips for prospective students Don't wait until the last minute to do everything. Also, don't think that because in high school you never studied, you won't have to study here. It's more complicated. Go to all your classes, and enjoy yourself!
Academic Rigor I never studied in high school and managed to get A's. It's not the case here. You have to study and study, and sometimes that's not even enough. You will definitely get a different perspective here.
Dorm Life I love living somewhere where I can escape to somewhere else. In my dorm we have FIGS (Freshman Interest Groups) who are like your family. I like that sense of community when I'm away from home.
Food and Dining The food is actually not that bad here. They make you real food from fresh ingredients, and it's all prepared right then and there.
What to do for fun There are movie theaters and a mall. There is also Downtown, which a lot of people go to. There is always some event or party or something on campus.
Bang for the buck Tuition is definitely expensive, but with scholarships and grants, they try to help you out as much as they can. They realize not everyone comes from money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is speakers circle, where people come in on their free will to try to persuade you on something. There is also the Quad, where the columns are. Also, we have a real Quidditch team. I'm not sure how many colleges can say that.
Great for these types of students If you enjoy sports, there is an excellent football team here. There is also a good basketball team. If you enjoy music or theater, there are programs for each of those as well.
Clubs and Activities There seems to be a club for almost anything here. There is a Cupcake Club, clubs specified to languages (i.e. Spanish Club). There are clubs to help animals. Other activities are club sports and study abroad opportunities.
Greek Life I'm not personally in Greek life, but my roommate is in a sorority. They seem to have sororities and fraternities for any kind of emphasis. They have the sweethearts, bookworms, etc. There is Frat Row and Greek Town here.
Campus Safety We have our own police force as well as the town police. There is also a whole team of security guards. We also have STRIPES, which is a program sponsored by the school for safe, sober driving.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences In three sentences, MU is an enormous roar of enthusiasm, community, and leadership. At MU, students are presented the opportunity to get involved with different groups of individuals with similar interests. Similarly, creating a friendly relationship with a professor of a favorite class is as easy as it is to call this school home for four years once exposed to the great community.
Tips for prospective students Keeping a sober head is important for academic success. Another thing is to take advantage of all the resources available to students through the university.
Academic Rigor Like many schools, the level of difficulty of any class is determined by how hard you want to make it. Nonetheless, the classes are rigorous and do require time consumption for things such as required readings and sometimes online homework.
Dorm Life Dorm life at MU is rather fun especially when you get involved with the dorm organizations such as hall governments.
Food and Dining At MU, the food and dining halls are reasonable. The quality of food is great and the creativity from the managers of the dining halls is like none other.
What to do for fun For fun, there are several things available: for example, every wednesday and friday and saturday, movies are presented in an auditorium. wednesday nights are free and on the weekends its only one dollar!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences In general it is a great school academically that can offer you a wide variety of options. Even if you're unsure of what you want to do it is simple to change your major. You can also find some very supportive staff to help you along the way.
Tips for prospective students It's not that hard to get accepted, but don't kid yourself: this isn't high school. It may start out easy, but it will get tougher, so make sure you're dedicated. Be honest, have integrity, and work hard while you're here.
Academic Rigor It can be pretty tough, depending on what classes you are enrolled in. As expected, some courses will be easier than others, but it's mostly about what you personally take away from it and the value you find in it.
Dorm Life They could definitely do more to make it a more pleasant experience. I didn't really get to know anyone in my hall, and the summer orientation as a freshman can be a bit awkward when you're being introduced to people who will live around you. Some dorms are certainly nicer than others, but in general it's safe and friendly environment.
Food and Dining The hours are a little strange, and sometimes the food isn't that great. The meal plans are fairly expensive too, and it's a waste of money if you don't use all of your meals.
What to do for fun Sometimes the school has events like $1 movies each month, among other things, but there are a variety of things you can do off campus. Columbia offers a wide variety of dining options, there are plenty of parks, multiple movie theatres, sporting events, and shopping.
Great for these types of students People who like to go out with friends; those who are willing to put a lot of time and dedication into their schooling.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences in a scale from 1-10, i would give mizzou an 8. mizzou is an amazing school, but if you are not very involved, your chances of getting into your department is very limited. some people have to work and can't always be involved as they would like, which is not quite fair.
Tips for prospective students more than anything, i would tell a future student to get involved because it teaches you time management. in addition, being involved looks amazing on a resume and makes your time here that more worth while.
Academic Rigor as long as you stay focused on your studies, which should always come first, you will be fine. time management is everything and college tests that for many people. some cannot handle it all, but as long as school comes first, everything will be great. in a scale from 1-10 based on difficulty, i would give mizzou a 9.
Dorm Life i live in one of the nicest and newest dorms on campus, hawthorn, and i love it here. it is a great mix of people and right by the rec. it is the perfect location in the middle of campus. in a scale from 1-10, i would give my hall a 9, but not all the dorms are like mine, so i cannot speak for them.

Tips for prospective students for incoming students i would tell them to do research to make sure this is the place they really want to be. mizzou is not at all easy and if your heart and mind isn't in to studying or coming hear you want succeed. however, if there's ever anything they may be struggling in there are of course several resources to help them out.
Academic Rigor the academics here are serious. in order to receive an a you have to really apply yourself, not just going to class and doing the work. you have to study and constantly review the material. no professor will freely pass out a's and the grading scale at mizzou is quite different than a lot of colleges. the scale can go from a+, a, a- and each one effects your gpa differently.
Dorm Life dorm life is a great experience. it gives you an opportunity to meet other freshman's or upper class men. you can also get involved in your dorm as well, which is another way to meet people.
Food and Dining dining hall food is good. of course its not anything like home cooked meals that my mom makes but it's still good. my favorite dining halls would be dobbs and plaza, both of these places food taste the best. plus, dobbs is right by my dorm so it's really easy to roll out of bed and catch some breakfast.

Dorm Life dorms are very modern.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of Missouri-Columbia has a variety of majors, clubs, and opportunities to explore. It provides one with the tools to be successful in life, and immerses students in a diverse learning environment. It is a place to create a solid foundation in regards to academics and friendships, a foundation that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Academic Rigor As long as you apply yourself, do the work, and study, classes are manageable and doable. It's important to attend classes, take notes, and to balance your time wisely- if one does all this, then classes will not be such a hassle.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a great way to meet new people and join in activities/clubs around campus. Many people leave their doors open, which allows you to meet people that are living in your building. There are dorm governments that include leadership and volunteer opportunities.
Food and Dining I actually work at one of the cafeterias on campus, which has worked great with my class schedule and has allowed me to meet a lot of new people. Most of the cafeterias have a grill, salad and pasta bar, dessert area, and a deli. Along with the cafeterias, there are also a variety of places to eat in the Student Center or Downtown.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor Yes I am learning but the enviroment should put more emphasis on rewarding those who are trying to make a difference here at this instittution.
Am enjoying being here Somewhat, but I wish the people were more receptive to non-traditional hard working students.
Bang for the buck I don't know what is meant by bang the buck but I assume it is related to the cost of living. The cost of living here is modest compared to a lot of other cites be they major or just college towns.
Tips for prospective students UMC is overall a good place to come and study because there are not a whole lot of distractions. Money- wise, don't get caught up into getting a whole lot of loans; maybe initially but after that find scholarships, fellowships and internships to support yourself on. Unfortunately, UMC does not have a whole lot of institutional scholarships so you have to seek elsewhere to satisfy that area.
Great for these types of students This school is great for professional level students because the environment is concussive to learning but you would have to seek elsewhere for financial support.

Will enjoy being here I know I just went to visit the campus, but there is so much to do here. Not only is the academic opportunity wonderful, but it's embedded into Columbia, so the campus flows right into the downtown district.
Bang for the buck For in-state students, it's a fabulous opportunity! For out of state students, I've seen more expensive schools offer a lot less. The University of Missouri- Columbia is perfect!
Tips for prospective students Keep trying for higher and higher ACT scores. Also, don't worry about not knowing a career path when you enter. THEY HAVE OVER HUNDREDS TO CHOOSE FROM!!!!
Great for these types of students The University of Missouri- Columbia is FABULOUS for students who want to major in Journalism, who love the Tigers, and want to have a fabulous college experience. Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers at Mizzou are amazing. I went from being a small town girl to a school of 30,000 students. Some of my classes are around 500 students in a lecture hall, & some of my classes average around 20. Regardless, the curriculum is great, & the learning experience is amazing!
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love Mizzou's campus. It's beautiful, the people are friendly, and there is always something to do. Not a day goes by where I am sitting at home bored. I actually enjoy how large the campus is, but I know some people that dislike it. It just depends on how much you like walking.
Bang for the buck Mizzou was my first choice in schools, and I do not regret it at all. You get a great learning experience, make lots of friends, participate in lots of fun activities, and have the college experience of a lifetime.
Tips for prospective students Some tips for prospective students would be: 1) Do not skip class! It becomes a bad habit, and the lectures are a crucial part of exams 2) Be social! Go to club meetings, socials, and other fun activities to make new friends and 3) Study hard! Priorities are always a mess in your first year of college. Just remember grades are the reason you are here! Sometimes getting better grades are more important than partying.
Great for these types of students Anywhere from social, outgoing students to smart, shy, hardworking ones.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor the variety of classes offered for undergraduates at mizzou is overwhelming, but allows each student to challenge their self and set their own pace. my teachers are intelligent and know how to actually teach the material not just apply it on their own, and i love that the honors classes are smaller.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere on campus is positive and extremely volunteer- orientated. Both the teachers and the students have a passion for learning and a pride for the campus as a whole. Tons of organizations allow for one to explore and meet new people while having fun. The only downside is the amount of work and stress that comes with such a big university, this however is worth it in the end.
Bang for the buck although the institution comes at a high price, many scholarships are offered for merit, diversity, and sports/ organization affiliations. talking with counselors and looking into scholarships and grants are important if you are wanting to make your mizzou price-tag smaller. everything said and done though, i believe the experience and education here are priceless.
Tips for prospective students coming into mizzou as a well-rounded individual will make you the most successful at taking advantage of all the university has to offer. have an open mind and reach out for new experiences. above all challenge yourself!
Great for these types of students i am currently a chemical engineering major and i absolutely love the engineering department. not only are they always available, but they are knowledgeable and want their students to succeed. they offer tutoring for engineering students and great advisers that know what they are doing. extremely important because sometimes having someone to go to in such a big campus is a blessing.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are a lot of grad students teaching classes here, especially at the lower level classes. They know what they are talking about thankfully, but some don't really know how to get the information across. Can't say I've been too impressed about that, although there are some grad. instructors that I would absolutely recommend (esp. in the classics department), so its kind of a 50/50 when it comes to grad instructors. I haven't been too impressed with the psychology grad instructors at all though.
But graduate students aren't always a bad thing, and the larger your school is, the more of them there are likely to be. Its really only the lower level classes that they teach at, so as you move up in your college career, the more likely you are to have experienced instructors. But of course your experiences with each one will always be different. There really is a wide range of okay to amazing here and thankfully I have yet to run into any downright 'bad.'
One of the best things though is that most of the faculty is always available. They actually want to talk to you and they like to hear what you have to say. If you are ever having any trouble or if you just downright don't understand something, chances are they're going to want to help you out. Your instructors are people too, and most the time they are really nice.Am enjoying being here I love Columbia and Mizzou. There is a lot to do here and the student groups are always putting events on for the students. You'll feel especially welcomed here in the beginning of the year, as there are plenty of events to get you integrated into new college life. The bottom line pretty much is there is always something to do.
And for the party people out there, you'll never be bored with the night life. There are plenty of clubs and Greek parties to keep you satisfied if that's what you like to do.Bang for the buck Mizzou is, at least for me, very expensive. If you can get your own place after your first year I recommend doing it as it will save you quite a lot of money. I also recommend summer classes at a community college if its necessary that you take them, as they are much cheaper that what you would pay here for the same amount of credit hours.
While Mizzou is really expensive, I believe they do put their money to good use. The campus is huge and the buildings are beautiful-especially the new student center and the bookstore. The Rec center is another great big place your money is spent on and it shows; the equipment and facilities are all top notch.
Mizzou has also been doing a lot of remodeling lately, so they are trying to make the campus a nicer place. Most of the dorms have been remodeled already and some are still on the list. The only thing about the dorms you maybe upset about is the lack of space, but hey-its college and that's pretty much expected. At least everything is clean and new.Tips for prospective students Get involved in campus activities, make friends in your classes, and visit your professors.
Great for these types of students The social types will love this place. This is a huge place with tons of people, so you have to decide if that's something you want.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot My education at Mizzou has been an amazing experience. The classes are tough, but very educational and teach you a lot. The majority of the teachers that I have had have genuinely cared about me and my education, you just have to take the time to get to know them. The amount of information that i have learned the the 1 and 1/2 semesters I have been here has been eminence, and much of what I have learned will be helpful when I am out of college.
Am enjoying being here I LOVE being here, the campus is wonderful! I grew up on a farm and was very nervous of the fact that the school was in a city, but it hardly seems as though it is in a metropolitan area. There are many activities to do on campus and you can almost always find something to do. Also, there are a variety of clubs and organizations to be involved with which makes college/dorm life that much better.
Bang for the buck All of my classes have given me great returns for that amount of time and money that i put into them. But, if you don't put the time and effort into the classes you wont be able to get the Bang for the buck that you may be expecting. It is essential to work at all of your classes and not mess around constantly, or you will just be spending a lot of money for a small amount of education and a whole bunch of bad grades that wont be helpful as you continue on in your life.
Tips for prospective students Don't get caught up in all of the parties and activities on campus. Yes you need to have fun sometimes, but keep it to a normal scale. A lot of kids get here and all they do for the first semester/year is party and not care about their classes. There is a balance that you need to meet, don't go out partying before a big test, you will probably not do so hot on your test. You have to have some fun or you will go crazy, so try to find the perfect balance between classes and parties.
Also, you get what you put into your classes, so don't just mess around and not take them seriously; after all they are what will prepare you for the rest of your life.Great for these types of students I am in the Animal Science department at Mizzou, and it is amazing and I love it here. Also, there are a lot of Journalism majors that are here and the Journalism college is pretty amazing too.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot University of Missouri is great place for a wide variety of learning. bigger school means more classes. Coming here opened my eyes up to things I would have never considered simply due to the fact that the opportunities are readily available. Perfect for an undecided major.
Am enjoying being here Every day that I am here I love meeting new people. There is always something going on and so many traditions. it is a school with a history.
Bang for the buck The tuition is low, but there are not many scholarships offered. You must be a truly outstanding student to receive even a small bit of money since there are so many students vying for a scarce amount of money.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to see your advisor nice and early before any registration. That is the one downfall in my opinion. Beware the Honors College. They do not always do what they promise.
Great for these types of students This school is great for someone with initiative. But no for someone who needs their hand held the whole way through. I would also highly recommend for undecided majors with a wide variety of interests. I had a career coach helping me choose classes that would fit a wide varitey of interests while still getting my somewhere and not wasting time. They have lots of resources like this available.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors are tough but they really care about student learning. They go out of their way to help students and are willing to spend extra time outside of lectures. They really love what they are teaching and try to share that love with all students. You also will learn a lot about yourself, others, studying, etc. You will learn and grow both as a student and as a person here.
Am enjoying being here Mizzou is a blast! There are more than 100 clubs and activities to do. There is always something fun going on somewhere on campus. The campus is beautiful and the everyone seems to be really nice.
Bang for the buck Mizzou is expensive but they provide a high caliber learning experience that equals any of the top colleges in the country. They also provide a lot of free services such as busing, movies, concerts, etc that make the high cost well worth it.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships and loans. These help to cover the high cost that you will be facing. Find out what you love to do and join a club for it. With almost 30,000 students there is going to be a few with similar interests as you.
Great for these types of students Mizzou is incredibly diverse and accommodates all kinds of students. There is something here for every type of person.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot Even though I do not have my own experience at this University I know that it is a great school to get an education at, because of my families experiences. My brother went here for his business degree and about a month after his graduation he was offered a full-time job to run a camp in Colorado, his dream job.
Will enjoy being here There is so much to do at the University of Missouri. Not only do they have a great athletic environment they also have a lot of other activities for students to participate in. There is of course the typical Greek involvement, Venture Out, which is an outdoor program for the outdoor enthusiasts. The campus has a lot of stuff to do, but the town of Columbia is also a great place to live and has lots of places for students to go to. There is a well known club there called the Blue Note that has a lot of great musical talents constantly going there.
Bang for the buck This school is one of the highest rated schools in Missouri. You get a great education, experience, and learn so much more. It expensive even for a Missouri resident, but still will be worth the money your spending.
Tips for prospective students I am a prospective student so it is hard for me to give you information, but the greatest advice that I can give you is follow the guidelines they go by for admitting a student into their university. If you don't think that you qualify for the university, I still encourage you to apply, because there are those circumstances where they will still admit you. If you have that spark their looking for in their student body.
Great for these types of students If your an outgoing student, love of athletics, enjoy experiencing all seasons. Then University of Missouri-Columbia is for you also known as Mizzou. MIZ-ZOU!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Coming from a graduating class of 50 students, Mizzou was much different than I had experienced. Even though the classes are much larger than I expected, I found it great that the staff is always helpful when I need assistance on assignments or labs.
Am enjoying being here The school spirit for the university is very contagious. Everyone loves the tigers and way the students get ready for the home football games is exciting. My first year Homecoming experience was more than I ever dreamed of. I participated in the parade, campus decorations and homecoming game.
Bang for the buck The school is right in line with other state colleges. Even though it is a very large school, the close-knit campus and easy access to the downtown area are very much worth it.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you visit campus before applying for the university. This is the best way to see a glimpse of what is offered besides classes. Summer Welcome is also a very helpful experience to actually feel how large the campus is. Be sure participate in as many activities on campus once you get here. By participating in activities, you find that you meet a ton of students quickly and can find your true friends for life. Also, be prepared to actually study if you want to be successful.
Great for these types of students This university is great for students who want the most out of their college experience. This university has so many different things to offer all kinds of students. We study hard so we can play hard.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are often large, usually anywhere between 50 and 500 for freshman, but several classes have smaller groups of about 20 for labs and discussions, so you still get to know people. The classes are very informative, and almost all teachers videotape their classes and put them on blackboard (a website for teachers to post grades, homework, etc for students) so even if you miss a class you can still get the information. Most classes are lecture based and reading the book is optional but extremely recommended if you want to do well on tests.
Am enjoying being here Most of the dorms on campus are recently renovated and very nice to live in. Mizzou has a great educational system but there's definitely no denying that it's a party school, so if you're into partying, this is the place to be. But even freshman who just want to focus on school can enjoy dorm life, because parties happen outside the dorms, meaning most people are gone weekend nights, so it's relatively quiet.
Bang for the buck Mizzou is pretty expensive for out-of-staters, but residents of MO get great deals- very low in-state tuition and LOTS of resident scholarships. There aren't many scholarships for non-residents, so the first year might be a bit expensive. But it's extremely easy to become a resident (live here for a year, make about $2,000 of MO-taxable money, and a few other requirements) so you could be paying in-state your sophmore year onward.
Tips for prospective students Get very good academics, especially if you're out-of-state. There are a few academic scholarships here for nonresidents, such as the Mark Twain scholarship, which depends largely on your ACT score. Make sure you go to Summer Welcome, as it's a great chance to get to know the campus, make friends and get a lot of information. Also, if you already know what career you want and you're going to live in a dorm, check out the Freshman Interest Groups and Learning Communities on Mizzou's school website- basically you can live on the same floor as people w/the same interest as you. Also, try not to get more than 15 credit hours your first semester- there's going to be a lot of sports, clubs, and other activities going on, so you don't want to overload by adding a ton of school work. Take the first semester to adjust, then add more classes second semester if you think you're ready.
Great for these types of students Journalism is big here, but there are plenty of other options. Both hard-core party people and studious types can do well (I have plenty of both on my floor in Schurz Hall), but party people need to also know that they can't get by here without studying. People who know how to balance school, fun, and extracurricular activities should have no problems here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors are great and are well versed in the subject that they are teaching. They will also meet with you when you need help and are always willing to help you learn and succeed.
Am enjoying being here The social atmosphere are Mizzou is the best: there is always something going on at the campus or in walking distance in the district. If you aren't into partying, the college puts on many sober events that are actually a lot of fun. Everyone is also really friendly and will make you feel at home.
Bang for the buck While the price tag is a little staggering, Mizzou is good about giving out scholarships to help buffer the cost. But in the end, you get what you pay for: an excellent education and a great connection for your future.
Tips for prospective students The campus becomes a lot smaller after you start to get to know people, so do not let the size intimidate you. The classes at Mizzou are the real deal: there is no such thing as a 'blow off' class here. The professors take their jobs very seriously and do not care if you show up or not. But I suggest showing up. The advisers are great about helping you with your schedule and will not try to make you take 16+ hours your first semester: mine would not let me sign up for more than 14. They understand that the transition between high school and college is difficult and WANT you to succeed.
Great for these types of students This school is great for everyone: whether you are shy or outgoing, you will be made to feel at home and comfortable in both your classes and dorm life. Unless you hate studying and don't want to learn, this school is right for you!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot If you are considering joining the University of Missouri family, be ready to come with an open mind and ready to learn. Don't be fooled by are party school reputation, MU is all about the academics and you will get a first rate education here. The teachers are, for the most part, very dedicated and caring individuals who genuinely want to help every student learn and succeed. All of my teachers from the Ag department have been very knowledgeable about their subjects, easily accessible, flexible and willing to help or answer any questions.
Am enjoying being here There is always something to do at MU, I don't think its possible to not keep busy. The sports, clubs and organizations are all over the place and I think there is literally something going on in some department almost everyday. On a more personal note, the staff is always very helpful, the food is amazing, and most of the dorms are really nice places to live.
Bang for the buck I think you get what you pay for at MU, for the most part. You learn a lot, you get to go to class every day on a beautiful and historic campus and like I mentioned earlier the dorms and food are all very good. I think personally the school store is a little overpriced at times but on the flip side you get discounts on the football game tickets.
Tips for prospective students Always remember to plan your extra curricular activities around your studying not your studying around your extra curricular stuff. Its way to easy to get sidetracked by all the cool things MU and Columbia have to offer, don't forget that your grades should always come first. Also its very easy to let yourself burn out here, everyone should have one thing they can do that is just for fun and that doesn't necessary have anything to with your major, it makes handling stress much easier.
On a side notes some tips to any incoming freshmen from some one who has been there done that. Bikes are usually easier to use on campus than cars, and they are generally good to have around just in case you need it. You can ride your bike on the roads in and around campus but that's kind of do at your own risk because the commuter buses can make that kind of scary at times. Your student ID is your best friend so do not leave it in your room or lose it, replacing it is not fun, and be sure to memorise your student ID number as soon as possible. Watch out when the counselor signs you up for first semester because they don't always make sure the commute from one class to another is actually possible and you can find yourself having to make a fifteen minute walk in a ten minute break between classes.Great for these types of students Anyone who is willing to put in the time and effort to do a good job. Traits that also can help include organization, multitasking and really good studying habits.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a lot during my time at MU. I took many college credits before entering college, but it is nothing like a class at MU. In particular, I have learned a lot of interesting and helpful information in my science classes that I will need later for nursing school.
Am enjoying being here I love the environment I chose to surround myself in. I am in a sorority so I have made a close group of friends even though MU is a very large school. I loved the school spirit and overall feel.
Bang for the buck I think that it depends on what type of person you are. I love MU and wouldn't change my decision, but it is a lot of money when we will all end up working at the same places even if I went to a cheaper school. I do think that it is a very good education though.
Tips for prospective students My tip is to find some way to be involved with a school activity. Even if it is within your major, there are many ways to get involved. It makes the school seem a lot smaller and will help you make friends to make the college experience more enjoyable.
Great for these types of students Motivated students that want to have a success career. Work hard play hard type of students.
