    Am learning a lot

The professors at UNO are exceptional and all those I have had are extremely knowledgeable in their fields. Also the course offerings are extremely diverse giving me a lot of new knowledge.

    Am enjoying being here

I have returned for a second year at UNO because I love the small campus atmosphere. And the central Omaha location makes the campus convenient for on and off campus living.

    Bang for the buck

All colleges are expensive, so UNO's tuition is par for the course. However UNO does a great job of compensating qualified out-of-state students with substantial scholarships.

    Tips for prospective students

If a first year student I suggest on-campus living as it offers an amazing atmosphere and a chance to meet new friends. I also suggest picking one advisor to deal with in you college as it can be often confusing dealing with many.

Great for these types of students

UNO is great for students looking for a small, student focused community while attending college.

    Am learning a lot

I just completed my first semester and I sincerely learned something new and interesting in each of my classes. All of my professors were incredibly knowledgeable in their respective areas of study. Just by attending class I really learned a lot about each subject.

    Am enjoying being here

Even though I am not living on campus, I made sure to get involved in organizations to meet new people. The campus is beautiful and very easy to get around on. I have met new people in all of my classes and enjoy the overall camaraderie on campus. I love the feel of UNO.

    Bang for the buck

Of course every school's tuition is expensive, but as long as you fill out the FAFSA or put some effort into scholarship searches, you will find financial aid. As for UNO compensating for the prices, they certainly offer many amenities outside of class for tuition. There's HPER for working out, an extensive library, and great student center right on campus for all students to take advantage of.

    Tips for prospective students

If you aren't from Omaha, schedule a campus visit! During required orientation you will get a tour of the campus and an overview of the school, but if you are debating between schools, take the time to visit. Also, keep in touch with older students so they can show you tips on simple things from buying cheap books, building a good schedule, and having an successful first semester. Most importantly, get involved!! Even if you don't live on campus, join an organization so you make the most of college.

Great for these types of students

UNO is great for students who want a closed campus feel while still being in the middle of a metropolitan city. As long as you are willing to take advantage of all that UNO offers, you will succeed and enjoy your college experience here.

    Am learning a lot

I love all of my classes. The professors are really detailed in their explanations of the material. I feel very comfortable asking questions because I know they will be answered as accurately as possible.

    Am enjoying being here

It's awesome here! I live on campus, so it is very easy to make it to classes on time. I can get anywhere in about 10 minutes.
The dorms are wonderful. I love the apartment-style and having my own room and kitchen.
I also really like the HPER center. It's a great place to work out.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that being here is definately worth the money. The campus is great and the money paid for tuition and housing goes towards making the college experience more memorable.

    Tips for prospective students

I would advise prospective students to apply for on campus housing. It's a great way to meet people.
Also, I would say that if you want to graduate in four years, you should take more than 12 credit hours per semester. In addition, it would be a good idea to take summer classes.

Great for these types of students

UNO is great for students who love being in a big city. Most students here commute, so there it's great for those who want to have a little more freedom by living in their own house or apartment.

This school is constantly changing and evolving. The student body is involved in the community and the promotion of everyone succeeding. This school is one of the best in the tri-state area, even if the football program has been cut....hey, we will are still part of the Husker Nation....GO HUSKERS!

    Tips for prospective students

It's o.k., if you don't know what you want to be when you grow up...that's o.k.! You will find your niche within your first year. There are people from the President down to the Student Affairs office who have wonderful open door policies, so don't be afraid

    Academic Rigor

The classes are wonderful; challenging and the teachers won't hold your hand but if your having trouble all you need to do is ask. On campus, there are centers and tutors available for just about any and all subjects. And, if you can't find a tutor go to you student advisor and they will find you a tutor free of charge!

    Dorm Life

I don't live on campus, but my friends that do, love it. The dorm's are not even 5 years old...they are more like apartments with a living room, kitchen, basic cable and Internet services, all provided. It's a very well lit area and campus security is always ready and available to escort you wherever you need to go!

    Food and Dining

The Student Union has an eclectic grouping of restaurants! Every time I go up there, I find something that I just know wasn't there before! If your vegan, a meat lover, love cuisines from all over the world, this is your place....oh made to order specials, too!

    What to do for fun

The Midnight Mojo activities are the bomb diggity! The host free movies, pool parties, tailgates for the games, free food! The fraternities and sororities host get togethers and campus wide events! There is something to do each and every month, you will never get bored and you will see different parts of the city!

    Bang for the buck

I like the Mavcard program, it's our student id card and you can preload it with cash to make purchases on campus! Everytime you do use it on campus, you can get an additional 5% off your purchases. Plus, there is a website, where your parents can add money onto your card at anytime!!!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are no unusual traditions that I know of, but with over 12,000+ students, I can't know everything or be everywhere....right!

Great for these types of students

We have an award winning Science Center, many renowned artists have come out of UNO. We have speakers from all over the world come speak at UNO regarding a variety of different subjects. Many people have life changing experiences listening to the speakers or join the Army Corp or Peacekeeper missions because of it.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club or activity for virtually any hobby or habit, fraternities, sororities, religious clubs, LGBT clubs & the office of MultiCultural affairs. We have the Seven Days of Service, during Spring Break, which is a community service event, which is wonderful and gets UNO students out into the Omaha community.

    Greek Life

I know that there are several Greek organizations on campus, but have not been able to partake, because I work the evenings during pledge week and am not always able to make it.

    Campus Safety

Is awesome! You can go onto the UNO website and see our security reports. Compared to some campus, we get an A+!

    Am learning a lot

All of the professors at UNO are hard-working, determined people. They are set out to help you in any way possible. Granted, there are a few professors without this attitude, but most are willing to take time out other their lives to help you achieve the best possible. The curricula here is very in-depth, so studying is a must, but there are many places that will help you.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus itself is absolutely beautiful, and the university is small enough that you don't feel like you are being smothered, which is a great feeling. Many updates are currently going on to revive the campus, and there are many things to come. There are hundreds, if not thousands of different groups and clubs you can join, on top of all of the sports and extracurricular activities there already are. You feel welcome there.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is the best by far from the colleges that I looked at. There are a couple of things that are a little expensive. The room and board costs a lot, which can hurt your wallet. Also, the books are overly price (but where are they not?) The food is a bit over priced, but manageable. Overall, it's one of the less expensive colleges out there

    Tips for prospective students

Always get involved soon!!! That is the one thing I can tell you, whether it is by joining a fraternity or sorority or going to a weekly meeting with a club, it just allows you to have the chance to meet new people, and possibly make connections with those that can be very beneficial later in life. It also promotes leadership, so if you are a shy person, by putting yourself out there, you are giving yourself the chance to influence others, which is a great felling, trust me on that. It also creates long-lasting friendships.

Great for these types of students

Any student would be happy here. People who are energetic, ready to try new things, those who have a positive attitude about school, sports fans, theatrical students, pre-med and pre-dental students, those who are just getting started, whether you are 18 or 38, you will fit right in. Anyone who is anyone has a great chance of finding a certain typ of solace here at UNO.

All of my professors are prepared for the semester, making sure everyone has their books and class materials! They have their course work all planned out perfectly. I know all that I will be learning this semester, and then some, I'm sure!

    Am enjoying being here

I got to be on campus a week before classes started and everyone here has been more than welcoming, friendly, and ready to answer any question I have! I feel like I am at home on this campus.

    Bang for the buck

I am enrolled for 17 credit hours and it's reasonably priced. I am an in-state student and didn't get many scholarships, but I believe many students do recieve them!!

UNO is usually overlooked by Omaha natives, and I must admit I was once one of those who did not want to attend this school. After attending UNO for a full year now, I have to say it is a great school. The teachers are always willing to help, the atmosphere is great, and the people that work their are always really nice and helpful.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are interested in attending UNO and have a car, GET A PARKING PASS! It is extremely hard to find parking without one unless you park at Crossroads mall and take the shuttle to UNO.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at UNO is pretty challenging depending on what teacher you have and what course you are taking. I like it, because it is not to hard and yet not to easy.

    Dorm Life

I myself do not stay on dorms, but a lot of my friends do. Dorm life is pretty dull, but the dorms are exceptionally nice and well kept.

    Food and Dining

There are many places around campus to catch a bite to eat, especially on 72nd st and Center st.

    What to do for fun

There is not a whole lot to do for fun in Omaha. There are barely no clubs or parties for people under 21 unless you take the 45minute commute to Lincoln. If you like baseball the college world series plays here so that is pretty exciting. Plus UNO has plenty of stuff to do.

Great for these types of students

UNO is great for students who want to go to a well accredited school, that is not super hard to succeed, but at the same time challenging.

    Clubs and Activities

UNO has a variety of clubs and student organizations. If UNO does not have a club or org. you are looking for all you need is you and three other people and you can create any club you are interested in!

    Greek Life

    Greek life is so-so.

some of the most amazing philosophy instructors in the country! plus, their library is one of the best i've seen. third, they put tons of emphasis on extracurricular and academic societies that make it a personable campus.

    Tips for prospective students

don't get caught up in the sports and the parties. the education is really the best part of this campus. also, do lots of research on prospect instructors; it will be the most valuable time you'll ever spend. use the library to your advantage...even with the advent of the internet the amounts of knowledge and legitimacy of a good old paperback book is unparalleled.

    Academic Rigor

the entry level classes are a piece of cake but beware of online! some of them can be a lot of work but considering you're doing them from the comfort of your own home they're still a-okay! the upper-level classes are truly remarkable; you get your money's worth in time and knowledge gained!

    Dorm Life

i've never been in the dorms but i've heard it's not a fun place to be; too rowdy and lots of people who don't like one another end up together. plus, it's pretty expensive all things considered.

    Food and Dining

the cafe in the library is pretty good; their coffee is starbucks and really worth it for late night studying. the cafeteria in the student center has at least five ethnic foods to choose from and you get a lot of bang for your buck. plus, during lunch hour, the place smells amazing. aromatherapy at its finest.

    What to do for fun

football is hugely popular. it's not my cup of tea but if it's someone else's then this is where one wants to spend their weekends. there are parties and tons of events leading up to every game. outside of football and sports the campus has midnight mojo which is a safe, alcohol-free party hosted every once in a while. it's a way to get out and hang with people who share your values.

    Bang for the buck

the ranking of the school is not spectacular and the tuition is reasonable. but it's really the outrageous amounts and size of the fees that they slip into tuition costs. they have fees for things that one can't even understand what they're used for. so while tuition is really reasonable the absurd fees are not. thankfully they have such a fantastic philosophy and religious studies department that (almost) every penny is worth staying.

Great for these types of students

if you are a sports fanatic, this is your place. if you place more emphasis on fraternities/sororities and other extracurricular activities then this is also a good place. education-wise the campus is good but if you want top of the line education and less of a community this is not the place to be.

    Clubs and Activities

the numbers of clubs and activities is endless. there is absolutely something for everyone.

    Campus Safety

parking is awful so people are forced to park down a ways in the park which is not safe at night. there is also a parking garage a ways off campus but buses running to there stop at only 6:00 at night! walking all the way over there is not safe either! the only redeeming quality is that the campus provides security if you contact them and they will escort you to your car. still, considering how many night classes the campus offers the safety is a big issue.

    Tips for prospective students

really try living on campus your first year especially! you meet so many more people. also, at least look into the greek system, it's not what you may think it is, you won't just be paying for friends, it's worth it! get involved right away and stay busy, college is supposed to be fun and it goes by fast for people because if you have fun it's because you're involved, so join some clubs/organizations!

    Academic Rigor

i learn so much here and haven't had a single bad professor! you have a lot more work to do on your own compared to high school, but you get used to it all. go to every class and really try to get to know your instructors, even if it's in a 100 person lecture hall, asking questions even if you know the answer is the best way to get to know the teachers. they'll remember your face when you're asking them to bump you from a b to and a!

    Dorm Life

dorms here are probably the best i've seen and i went on a lot of campus tours. no matter which one you choose, you're going to have your own room and only share a bathroom with two people. and you'll have a full kitchen, all for less than you'll pay at a private school. i can't complain.

    Food and Dining

well i can't lie, since every dorm has a full kitchen the food courts aren't the best, and they can get pricey, but if you live in the scott campus area the scott food court is amazing. all you can eat buffet, but make sure you get the meal plan, it'll save you tons!

    What to do for fun

well you'll live in omaha. there's aksarben village with restaurants and a movie theatre, there's 3 malls in omaha. a bowling alley right down dodge from uno campus. as well as the on campus events like midnight mojo once a month, which is free buy the way. also there's intramural sports going on all the time at hper, the new fitness facility, also free to uno students where they have two weight rooms, basketball/volleyball courts, and a swimming pool. you can't ever really be bored here!

There are activities for students almost every weekend and during the week, and there are several ways to get involved and meet people if you are willing to join a club or a sorority/fraternity. I've had a great experience here so far!

    Bang for the buck

The classes are fantastic, and the professors are always here for the student when they need help. They provide a wonderful education for us. I've learned a ton. I'm here on scholarship so I'm not sure how hard it is to pay tuition firsthand, but I do know that a large amount of students here are on scholarship. They have a ton, and they're reasonably obtainable.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. Otherwise, it is rather hard to meet people if you don't know anyone.

Great for these types of students

Students who want reasonably small classes and friendly professors, a great campus, a fantastic recreation center (newly redone), lots of involvement opportunities, and great transportation for those who live off campus or on the south campus. Several other reasons too!

    Am learning a lot

As a freshman, I am learning a lot! There is a lot of technology available which enhances learning!

    Am enjoying being here

I really enjoy being here! The college experience is wonderful! There are many services and accommodations available for students! It is very clean and peaceful as well! I recommend this university!

    Bang for the buck

It is really worth coming here! It is not a huge college, but for learning it is! I really love the university and they try to give you everything you paid for! They also offer a financial aid office where they help you with financial needs!

    Tips for prospective students

If you are lost, not good at studying, undecided, or do not know what college is like, then join a First Year Experience class. They will help you develop many skills needed for college! Ask a lot of questions and find out about all the services that the university offers! Talk to the professors and your advisers! Go to orientation!!

Great for these types of students

Great for people who want to learn and engage in the classroom! It is a nice little college in which you will not be afraid to get lost in! It is also very calm!

    Am learning a lot

The ,teachers are great. Many of my professors in the Criminal Justice Department are doctors and top in their field. I have also found the Aviation Department professors to be fantastic.

I live off campus and still enjoy this school a lot. They have lots of chances to get involved. In addition they have been renovating each of their buildings and everything is top of the line.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is pretty low for the school and the quality. In addition you can choose to do a 12 month rent on the on campus living so that you are able to live there all year round.

    Tips for prospective students

I would try and iron out exactly what you want to do and where you want to live and get it in early since there are no specific freshmen dorms so you can live in the better apartments if you get in early.

Great for these types of students

This school is good for those students who want to just sit back and be part of the crowd or those that want to be very active and get involved with a lot of different things.

Very much so! I'm a music major, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. The music department is so much fun!

    Bang for the buck

There are cheaper colleges out there, sure, but UNO really does a good job keeping their in-state tuition low.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're a music student, I highly recommend looking into UNO. The music department is one of UNO's best kept secrets.

Scott Hall is a cool place to live. The food is great! Then there are the hockey games...... Awesome!
