Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The school is a good place to go and get your degree. I am studying Business. The classes are harder for this major than other majors. There is a lot of writing and reading. However, the teachers are extremely nice, and they are very helpful. They do not like for students to fail. They will go out there way to help you as long as you give effort in trying to succeed. I thought I was a good writer, until I started writing in college. The teachers helped me identify what areas I needed help with, and how to improve those areas. I am learning more than I ever thought I could learn. The school also helps you by giving outside help on campus to ensure you pass all your classes. I have learned more about science in my first year of school than I have in all of my educational years combined. They also offer subjects in areas that I really like, which encourages me to continue taking extra courses and minor in more than just one field I enjoy. The school is helping me learn alot bout not only academic things, but also about myself and life.
Am enjoying being here I love going to the school. Living on campus is a great experience for anyone. No matter how much you think you want to live off campus, it is fun living on campus. The enviroment helps students study, and stay focus on shool. Being a student who stays on campus lets you get the real feel of college.
Bang for the buck It is worth the money. It may be expensive, but all colleges are. The good side of the paying for school here is that you get your money's worth. They ensure that the campus stays live, and that students are safe any where they go.
Tips for prospective students Be ready to have fun. Don't come here feeling like you want be able to succeed. If you believe in yourself, so will everyone else.
Great for these types of students The school is great for anyone. NO matter what your degree is, you will be able to have fun, as well as find time to study and pass your classes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University of New Mexico has provided me with helpful tips, tutors, study groups and well educated staff that makes learning fun and challenging.
Am enjoying being here UNM is a great place to open up; meet new friends, learn to be responsible, and start life on your own.
Bang for the buck UNM is worth every penny! Plus if you receive a 2.5 GPA or higher you will receive the lottery scholarship... guaranteed! Trust me... it helps!!!
Tips for prospective students Tips for new students:
*Make sure your at the classroom 15min before class starts. Especially if you have a class with 400-800 students enrolled.
*Take advantage of study groups, tutors and professors help.
*Lastly, make sure to be organized and review all your notes throughout the semester...it helps for mid-terms and finals.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot here at UNM. They are a top of the line school with excellent professors, GAs, and TAs. UNM has managed to find some of the mos interesting and qualified professors, GAs, and TAs. Last semester I took Philosophy 101 with Ethan Mills. He is a graduate student at UNM and teaches a few classes in the philosophy department. He has written a chapter in Steven Colbert's book I am America, and so can you. He made the class interesting and fun to many students (like myself) who have no interest in philosophy and were dreading the class. Ethan Mills is just one example, all of UNM's faculty are of his caliper, which makes attending UNM an educational and pleasureful activity.
Am enjoying being here As I mentioned the educational side of UNM is second to none. I think the other main aspect of a college that is taken into account when deciding where to attend is the campus and livability. UNM has a beautiful campus, filled with trees and grass. UNM even has a duck pond with a waterfall and dozens of ducks located in the center of campus. It is a joy to walk or ride my bike to classes because of the terrific scenery. Even when not going to class I often go for an afternoon bike ride just for the scenery.
Bang for the buck UNM has very competitive tuition rates for both in state and out of state students. I am from New Mexico and initially wanted to go out of state. I applied for several schools in Oregon and was accepted to all of them with scholarships. I soon realized that because of New Mexico's lottery scholarship, UNM was by far the best bang for my buck. UNM also led me through the loan application for the small amount that I do need. UNM is not just for in state students though. UNM is very affordable for out of state students. I know many out of state students who chose UNM because it was cheaper than their local universities. UNM offers many scholarships to out of state students including a full ride regents scholarship. Even though UNM is very affordable, it is by no means a second hand school. UNM has top of the line professors and has several nationally ranked degree programs. UNM class rooms sport excellent technology to aid in learning. All classrooms have at least one protector, DVD player, and computer. Computer pods are scattered around campus with excellent processors and 22 monitors. Laptops are available for rent and several of UNM's libraries as well. UNM is very affordable but compromises nowhere.
Tips for prospective students If you are at all interested in UNM, I urge you to take a campus tour, and apply. I also urge you to find and apply for any scholarship you can find.
Great for these types of students UNM is perfect for almost all students. UNM offers a large variety of degress that suit just about everyones interests.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot It all depends on the field you want to go in to. UNM is great for pre-med. In fact they're known for it. But I want to go into Animal Sciences and the closest program they have for that is a straight Biology program.
Will enjoy being here Make sure you do your research first! If not, you'll be miserable.
Tips for prospective students Make sure it has everything you want or you will be supremely dissappointed. Go visit the campus more than once. Check out the food and the dorms. See what activities are happening there all the time.
Great for these types of students Undergraduate and Graduate Medicine students should definately check this school out because it's worth the time. Those fields are what UNM is known for.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This school has different subjects that one can learn about, it just depends on who wants to learn and how dedicated they are. I certainly love the dance classes and language, but I am horrified of the math ones. It just takes time to know how to study. Also make sure you communicate with your teachers, they usually can help you with any problems.
Am enjoying being here This is a small campus, but I really enjoy walking around. Plus, everyday you can meet someone new who might end up being a new friend. Also in order to enjoy any college, you need to get involved.
Bang for the buck Hmmm I am out of state and it is too much sometimes for certain services like the dorms. Yet, I do like my dorm.
Tips for prospective students Find out about scholarships ahead of time, make sure you know the different deadlines, meet your teachers, and get involved as much as you can, because that enhances your college experiences.
Great for these types of students Pre-medicine for sure.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UNM pushes a lot of self responsibility, so I have learned quite a bit about how to mind my own finances and career goals. It does offer support though, so it's not like they just abandon you. You just have to be responsible enough to go and get the help yourself. The classes are also usually taught by good teachers, and there are many learning opportunities about campus.
Am enjoying being here It is a beautiful campus, but they do not enforce their non-smoking policy very well, so its beauty is marred by cancer sticks and their users. The teachers are usually very helpful, and the dean takes complaints seriously. The Zimm library on campus is an amazing resource and a great placed to study.
Bang for the buck If you are a resident of NM then UNM is almost completely free for you. I've spent maybe $200 total in tuition and fees for my first two semesters here. Getting one other scholarship means your books are covered too. Technically, because of my other scholarship, I have yet to spend a dime.
Tips for prospective students Double check what your academic advisers say. They know about their own department, but they are useless when it comes to financial aid. Go talk to the financial aid office if you have questions about that, or you may lose your scholarships because of misinformation. Also, get into your major's college as soon as possible. You'll have better advisers then.
Great for these types of students Anyone can succeed here if they are willing to ask for help. There are many resources available for any student.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a lot from all of my classes at the University of New Mexico. All of the professors do their best to make themselves accessible to students even in the large class sizes. The classes have offered me a new and fresh perspective to many current issues and they have opened my eyes to many new opportunities.
Am enjoying being here The University of New Mexico is such a fun atmosphere. You will meet some of the best friends of your life. There is always something to do on campus, whether it be getting involved in one of the many organizations, a fraternity or a sorority, exploring the rich cultural city of Albuquerque, or checking out the spirited Lobo athletic squads. Whatever you decide to do, you will definitely enjoy to be a Lobo, as I am now.
Bang for the buck The University of New Mexico is a wonderful institution for a very great price. It is not often anymore that you find a top tier school with wonderful financial opportunities. If you decide to attend the University of New Mexico for your undergraduate or graduate years, you need not worry about struggling to pay for school.
Tips for prospective students Do well in high school. Although admission standards are not real high to gain admittance to UNM, do your best before you get here. College is different from high school and your time is not as planned making what time you have valuable. Finally, get involved when you get here to UNM. College is a fun and new experience, and getting involved will make it even better!
Great for these types of students Whatever you want to study, I guarantee that UNM offers it. Whether you are interested in Law School, Medical School, or anything else your heart desires, you will find it at the University of New Mexico.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The University of New Mexico is a great university; it is very diverse. I guarantee that you will find yourself immersed in different cultures. The people here are amazing, I'm currently doing work-study here at the university and I love it. The teachers do not like for students to fail, always visit them during their office hours. They will go out there way to help you as long as you give effort in trying to succeed. There are many resources for students available and for students to succeed. They have CAPS, which is tutoring center opened to students for free.
Am enjoying being here I love going to the school. The environment helps students study, and stay focus on school. Working on campus is a great opportunity; the people here set you up for success. They understand that going to school is a priority and will help you accomplish your goals. Not to mention that the campus is beautiful, many students bike here, it’s very easy to commute. They enforce their non-smoking policy. Many of the libraries are opened late, so student s can study; during finals they are opened 24 hours a day.
Bang for the buck There are many opportunities for students to apply for scholarships and financial aid. It offers the New Mexico’s lottery scholarship for students who completed at least their senior year of high school in New Mexico; students get the opportunity to have their tuition paid for four years. The whole campus has Internet students can use for free. There are computer pods all over campus and in many locations, so it is very easy for students to have access to them. Not only that but they offer free bus passes, students get to ride the city bus for free. It is worth the money.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of resources available for students such as tutoring center.
Review your work throughout the semester.
Talk to an academic advisor before dropping any classes.
Make sure you get holds removed from your account before registration.
Don't wait till last minute to register for classes.Great for these types of students Great for all kinds of students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned the waters and have experienced the best things that are expected out of college. I plan to be a graduate student here at UNM because I find that I am making steady progress here. I have not failed at anything here because the classes and teachers are understanding, which is not something you would get from just any other college... but I could be wrong because this is the only college I have attended. I am lucky to have gone to UNM first before any other college.
Am enjoying being here The classes are great! The teachers are giving me everything I need to succeed, but the resident life has got to be one of the most stressful things I have ever had to deal with. Since this is my second year first semester, I hope that the same stressful situations do not occur so I can be thoroughly happy at the university. I am also glad we are getting a new president at UNM. Advisement also has become better but in the beginning of my college career it was beyond fixable, it was just plain awful.
Bang for the buck Because I was set back a whole semester I have had to spend money on things that were unnecessary. It was not a good time for me at all financially but I am working on getting everything back on track and I am looking into better advisement at UNM. Lets just say, when you are a freshmen you will fail... but then you will learn. I came to college to learn not to be taught and that is what I am doing.
Tips for prospective students If you are not goal driven, if you are not success craving, do not waste your time. Come to college to better yourself and your knowledge of the world. There is a lot to learn here about life, about culture, about common sense and about our world. Join something that will become revolutionary... change at least one persons life that you meet. Live by a mantra for your first semester and realize it was silly. Mess up and rebuild your confidence, it is all worth it. Use what you learn to survive in our tough world today. When I say make a difference, I mean it. The most important thing is learn how to find yourself. College can be a lot more rewarding then just a steady good paying job. When your done here, another piece of your puzzle will have been created and you will be one step closer to complete. Suck it up and reap the benefits of college.
Great for these types of students The University of New Mexico is diverse. That is an obvious statement, but not a lot of people believe they will find their place. Great thing about UNM, you can make your own place AND, they let you. In fact, they encourage it. You can create your own degree, your own club/ organization and you can choose to live where you want. That is half the battle, so anybody who has the quality of elitism, or at the very least, goals they would like to achieve, this is your place and you can make it how ever you please. If you are a slacker... we have classes and degrees for you too.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UNM courses are not easy but they are not hard either. I learned from communicating directly with my professors, rather than just intuitively picking up the course materials.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and there are many on site stores and convenient restaurants. However, the parking is incredibly terrible.
Bang for the buck The tuition is a lot. In comparison to all the other universities I have been to, the additional fees and everything else makes it very expensive.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to explore, there are a lot of ways you can save on food, and supplies if you live on campus. For off campus students, be sure to take advantage of all your amenities as a student of this university.
Great for these types of students If you enjoy the downtown scene, in addition to being really inclined to being out and about, you'll love this campus. As well as those who enjoy physical activities.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot I really enjoyed attending this school. The teachers were awesome and really seem to care about their jobs as well as the students. My learning experience was great and I had plenty of fun in the process.
Did enjoy being here While attending, I lived on campus in the dorms. The experience was well worth it. I had a chance to meet a lot of really cool peole. The campus was a great size & also very multicultural.
Bang for the buck Paying for this school was worth the money, but never hesitate to apply for financial aid. Scholarships, grants, & etc. are all ways to help boost your college experience.
Tips for prospective students When going off to college, keep your head held high. Never fear a new beginning or experience. Both are offered here.
Great for these types of students This university is great for all students!!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are so many fields to choose from it is hard to be sure the school you have chosen is right one. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Environmental Science and Mass Communication. I am just getting into the classes needed for my major, but i can discuss the core classes I have taken thus far. Many of the entry level classes are just that, entry level learning. It is the professors which provide you with the correct methods to learn the material, and most of the ones I have taken are great. With the exception of a few math courses, and an intro to philosophy class, I have learned a great deal while attending this university.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus. It is truly beautiful. There are many different designs for the buildings, and the whole campus is covered in trees. Almost every building is different, and the people follow that pattern. There are so many people to meet, and in my experience most are just as friendly as your willing to be. Great environment.
Bang for the buck I am a resident of New Mexico, so i pay next to nothing for tuition(less than $3,000 a year). I am unsure on how much non-resident tuition costs, but i have heard it is still pretty low.
Tips for prospective students There are two areas were great improvement is needed. One is the parking situation, and the other is the University Advisement office. Parking is horendous, but there is no way around it. I can only provide a warning. They are strict about enforcing parking violations, and you have to pay over one hundred and fifty dollars to park anywere close to campus. A permit for a lot further away will cost you less, but with the hords of students going to class at the same times the shuttles often move at snail pace. The University Advisemnt Office is another issue, but after your core curriculum is finished you no longer have to deal with them. The issues here are long waits to even see an advisor, different information from different advisers, and they make you follow a flawed process in order to register.
Great for these types of students Anyone who enjoys an open campus, with a whole lot of college student populating the surrounding area. The people are quite fun to be around, and there are many of the draws of a big city. I think it's the perfect starter city for anyone looking to live in a metropolis one day.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors at this university are really great. They are always willing to help and they really make an effort to ensure students are receiving the education they deserve. The classes are intriguing and leave students wanting to learn more and take control of their learning.
Am enjoying being here The campus is absolutely gorgeous. If you want to surround yourself in a beautiful environment UNM is the place for you. Albuquerque is a quiet little city and a great place to live. I grew up here all my life and I love it.
Bang for the buck We all know college is expensive, but UNM is reasonable. I feel that the education you receive at this university is well worth the money, especially if you are a New Mexico resident. New Mexico residents are eligible for the Lottery Scholarship which covers the cost of tuition. So if you are a New Mexico resident I really suggest you looking into UNM.
Tips for prospective students I encourage students to look into this college and take a tour of the campus. The tours are really an eye opener of how great the campus is and they are also very resourceful.
Great for these types of students This university is great for students who are looking to better themselves and get a great education. The university has a lot to offer, not only in academics but in extra cirricular activities as well. This university is well rounded and has something to offer for every type of student.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The education you get at UNM is priceless. I've learned to be very independent and the teachers seem to really care. No matter what you decide to study, UNM is an awesome school to experience.
Am enjoying being here I live on campus and it is a lot of fun. The amount of diversity here at UNM is utterly amazing. Most other schools talk about it and you never notice it but here at UNM you see and feel it everywhere. The school organizations are everywhere and someone is always doing something. It helps to keep us busy and get the true college experience.
Bang for the buck The only thing I believe is over priced is room and board. It is quite astonishing but an experience of living on campus is awesome.
Tips for prospective students Be ready to work. This isn't high school, it is so much better.
Great for these types of students Independent. Be ready and willing to learn and have so much fun. You should like to be involved because if you aren't you will get lost in the crowd!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of New Mexico is a great college where you can achieve many things. It is a respectable place where you are able to feel welcomed by everyone around you. This university is a great place to achieve your goals and start your life.
Tips for prospective students It is best to stay on track and try not to get distracted. Try to keep organized because it is easier to keep track of all the things that need to be done. It is best to get all the school work done as soon as possible or you might end up falling behind.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor all depends on what classes that are being taken. The classes seem to test a person's abilities in all the subjects. They give you an academic challenge that makes you proud when you have succeeded.
Food and Dining There is quite a bit of dining and food choices at the University of New Mexico. There are numerous well known choices to choose from that are on campus. Then there is also other restaurants within walking distance of the university.
What to do for fun One of the most best things to do is hanging out with friends during breaks or after classes. There is also a duck pond located in the middle of campus that is a great place to relax.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of New Mexico is a good place for students pursuing a degree in health fields as I am due to the fact that it is one of the top ranked Universities on the nation for Health Careers. I been here since my freshman year and have not regretted the decision. It is a friendly location with many resources to help a student succeed.
Tips for prospective students Dedication to your education, with a large student body it is essential that the student stay on top of their education.

Dorm Life The dorms are a great place for students to live with new student bonds being made everyday in a friendly environment.
Food and Dining The food in the cafeteria here is delicious but there are also off campus eating locations just across the street as well as off campus food providers on campus in the student union building.
What to do for fun For fun there are intramural sports in the gym, movies in the on campus theater and get together by dorm resident advisers.
Bang for the buck The price of the education you will receive from the University of New Mexico will be out weighed by the fun and learning possibilities at hand.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UNM has a beautiful campus, and great transportation system. I haven't met anybody who wasn't nice so far. The only thing I don't like is the over-reliance of graduate TA's teaching 100-level courses; some are good, but others aren't--that makes the learning a challenge.
Tips for prospective students If you don't know what you want to major in yet, don't worry about it. You don't have to declare until junior year. That gives you some time to try out different things.
Academic Rigor Depends on the subject, of course. Classes with labs are going to be more reliant on in-class work. There's a fair amount of reading for pretty much every subject though.
Dorm Life Honestly, I'm not qualified to answer this question since I live off-campus, and have never been in the dorms. That's why I gave it a low rating. Nothing personal, UNM, I just like my privacy.
Food and Dining It depends where you go, and how much you're willing to spend. La Posada, I've heard, is terrible. There is a food court in the SUB though, and that has some pretty decent restaurants, and there are mercados on campus as well that provide stuff like sandwiches, burritos, and snack items, and if you're low on cash, there are always the vending machines. Most are credit card or Lobo card only.
What to do for fun There's always something going on. Check out the boards around campus for fliers, or the website, or just walk around by the SUB to see what's happening any ol' time.
Bang for the buck It's pretty typical for what you're going to find at a university. There are plenty of opportunities though. It's up to you to maximize their potential.
Great for these types of students People who do not require a lot of personal attention to succeed. Class sizes are usually large. If you need a teacher who knows your name and pesters you for late work, this is not the right type of school for you.
Campus Safety You won't see them walking around much, but they do drive around campus. There are also alerts that are sent out via text message and e-mail when something has happened on campus, as well as emergency phones scattered throughout the grounds.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences A very different campus than most, UNM is set in the middle of the southwestern city, Albuquerque. UNM is a proud school with strong programs in nearly every subject. A beautiful campus and great academics make for a wonderful experience.
Tips for prospective students The city of Albuquerque is like any other major metro, it has its rough areas, be sure to avoid them at night.
Academic Rigor Great professors in upper level classes make up for the weaker educators in beginner classes.
Dorm Life Dorm activities are great but the outdated, overrun dorms need help, desperate help. Fortunately several projects are ongoing in an attempt to update the halls.
Food and Dining Chartwells is awful. Overpriced and bland, however there are several area restaurants near campus that are affordable and tasty.
What to do for fun Experience New Mexico, history, outdoors, old and new all in one.
Bang for the buck Worth the education you get, the meal plan, however is a rip off.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus New Mexico is heavily Native American and Hispanic, these cultures mesh beautifully on the UNM campus and nowhere else has such beautiful diversity.
Great for these types of students Anyone can find a place here. ANYONE!
Campus Safety Very safe- campus police patrol heavily as does campus security, there are also emergency call stations throughout the entire campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I have completed 2 and a half years here and have loved it. I feel I have made substantial progress towards my degree and the knowledge I will need once I complete my degree. UNM is a great college and every student should consider attending.
Tips for prospective students Have a plan and go into each day with the idea knowing you will learn. The environment of UNM is positive and there are so many options a student can take advantage of to earn a degree.
Academic Rigor There are laid back teachers and the tough teachers. Either way, if you put full effort towards the class, there will not be any problems in completing the course.
Dorm Life The Dorm Life is expanding at UNM currently and with time, it will become even better. There will be more students housed on campus and this will allow for more success within the institution.
Food and Dining There is the SUB and the La Posada. Both have great food.
What to do for fun UNM is in the heart of New Mexico. The weather is always gorgeous here and there are so many outdoor activities to do here. A very great place to be if you are into doing stuff outdoors.

Clubs and Activities Too many to describe here. Get on UNM's website and just explore all the possibilites.
Greek Life Not too sure about this honestly.
Campus Safety This is something UNM does not take lightly. There are campus police everywhere, and there are multiple phone towers if a student is ever in danger. These towers contact the police right away to that location and they will arrive within in minutes.

Food and Dining On campus, there is a building dedicated to quick and easy dining. It is delicious!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences unm is an ecclectically structured campus. with so many sunny days it is somewhat soothing for study outside. with the different people that attend, it can get very interesting when it comes to meeting people.
Tips for prospective students take the campus tour before attempting to register and starting classes, you'll feel like you've been there for years.
Academic Rigor this would depend on what your area of study is...some areas would be very difficult as to other areas of ease. i think it is also based on how an individual learns. personally it has been great for me.
Dorm Life new apartments were built and are being built for residency. the dorms are fun, airy and clean.
Food and Dining the student union building (sub) has restaurants that are also located off campus but take lobocash so there is no worries if you do not have cash in the bank.
What to do for fun there are numerous trips that are put together by the various clubs to explore the state.
Bang for the buck the movie theater located in the student union building (sub).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus one of the art pieces located on campus called the center of the universe, has to be one of the coolest things to experience. this piece of art is for the imagination so can be interpeted in many variations as to its purpose.
Great for these types of students this university has a very diverse crowd.
Clubs and Activities a wealth of clubs and activities to choose from. no chance of getting bored on this campus.
Greek Life fun, informative and supportive to all students attending the university.
Campus Safety a little bleak and can use some updating.

Dorm Life i hate dorm life!!! their dorms are old and ghetto. the cafeteria is alright nothing special. also the price is ridiculous.
Food and Dining same food day in and day out. hardly any variety ever.
What to do for fun it's a big city, for new mexico that is, so there are quite a few options.
Bang for the buck it's expensive and not really worth it.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences UNM is a great school, with a very tight community. The teachers are great. The on campus living is an amazing experience.
Tips for prospective students The one thing I have been told to do over, and over is to get involved and I would definitely like to pass that tip on. Whether it's just in the dorms or with Greek life or anything like that it is a great way to meet new people, get connected and stay involved.
Academic Rigor The classes are difficult but as long as you are willing to go to class, pay attention, and do the work they will become a lot easier.
Dorm Life I am living in Coronado which is a traditional style dorm. The dorms are where most of my friends live and it has really become my home. They are very clean, but it can become sloppy on the weekends when the cleaners don't come.
Food and Dining The dining hall, La Posada is good for a few things but it is definitely not somewhere one would like to eat every day. I would recommend keeping food in a fridge in the dorms and using the kitchens in the dorms to make your own dinner at least once a week. Also there are other options in the Student Union Building but those can quickly add up and dining there can become very expensive.
What to do for fun There are a lot of on campus activities, from intramural sports to free movie nights and pep rallies. While living on campus there have been very few nights that I have been stuck for something to do.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One really great thing about UNM is that before Christmas break there is a night walk where people from around the school have set up luminarias. This is one tradition that makes me love the campus and living on campus so much.
Campus Safety Campus is a very safe place to be, there is a very present campus P.D. and if one feels uncomfortable they can call and have an escort come to their location to walk them to where they need to be.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University of New Mexico Main Campus is a great university. The teachers are friendly and the students are close nit. Overall The
University of New Mexico is outstanding.Tips for prospective students If you are a student interested in attending the University of New Mexico Main Campus just make sure you wear tennis shoes because its a huge campus. Also you need to get your parking permits ahead of time that way you won't get a ticket if your rushing to a class. The teachers are very helpful and they want you to succeed.
Academic Rigor The University of New Mexico Main Campus deserves a 4 out of 5 stars for academic rigor because the classes are challenging but they are doable. IF you are a student that likes to cram material don't, because it is better to study and take your time that way when you take the test it won't be so hard. The material thought at UNM is challenging but there is a lot of tutoring like CAPS at the Zimmerman Library at UNM that helps students learn the material.
Dorm Life The University of New Mexico Main Campus deserves a 2 out of 5 stars for dorm life.I personally have chosen to not live on campus because I wanted to live with my boyfriend. However, I went to a orientation as a freshman and the dorms didn't look that appealing to me. Personally I like my privacy and living in a dorm seems very open and public, so I would not recommend living in a dorm anywhere.
Food and Dining The University of New Mexico deserves a 4 out of 5 for food and dining. The reason I say 4 and not 5 is because some of the food they have served at La Posada, which is the cafeteria is either burnt or taste bland. However, I do appreciate that UNM does have fresh fruits and salads at most of their food locations.
What to do for fun The University of New Mexico deserves a 5 out of 5 for what to do for fun. The reasons why I say that is because in Albuquerque, New Mexico there is not much to do, so the fact that UNM is always promoting sports and activities not just for students but for the community is great. I believe that without UNM living in Albuquerque, New Mexico would be more boring.
Bang for the buck The University of New Mexico deserves a 4 out of 5 for bang for the buck. The reason why UNM is great is because it offers many different concentration fields and the tuition at UNM is considerably lower than other universities. So definitely if you don't mind living in New Mexico UNM is definitely a steal.

Bang for the buck The great teachers, classes, campus, and school related activities as well as the low tuition make definitely combine to create a large bang for the buck factor.
Great for these types of students The studio art, art history, and architecture areas of UNM are fantastic. Any student in these fields will gain great knowledge and experience.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are many different courses offered which enables you to create a schedule with a balance of necessary courses and fun courses. The professors know how to make the coursework entertaining and teach it in an efficient way that allows students to learn a lot even if they are not interested in the subject of the course.
Am enjoying being here The campus is very open and welcoming. There is a lot of southwest influence in the buildings and decor which makes it great for out of state students who have not visited New Mexico often. There are many places to study and hang out between classes, and it's easy to spend an entire day there!
Bang for the buck There are so many great scholarships offered, and it's easy to find books not only on campus but also in nearby bookstores and online. Tuition may seem like a lot at first, but by utilizing financial aid and scholarships, UNM is affordable to nearly everyone, and the education provided is well worth the money spent!
Tips for prospective students Apply early and make sure to learn about all of the scholarships available to you. Attend orientation and find other ways to explore the campus and meet other students. Make sure to create a schedule that is not only academic but also includes a class that you want to take for fun, such as a physical education or art class. Most of all, remember to have fun and stay on top of homework.
Great for these types of students UNM is great for honors students, the honors program offers so many interesting classes and is an overall amazing program. Students interested in the arts will also like UNM. It's also great for students from out of state that are looking for an affordable university that will provide a great education in a larger city.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I found most of the required classes a review of concepts I had already learned. All of the upper division classes that I have taken have been challenging and interesting, the teachers may require you to work the whole semester, some may not and only have one test at the end, the variety gives a unique challenge to every class.
Am enjoying being here The people on campus are great, the campus is beautiful. However, most people live off campus so the campus does not have a lot to do over the weekends or at night, but the communities within the various dorms try to have something for the students to do almost every night.
Bang for the buck Its expensive and in some classes that felt almost like a review of things I felt should have been taught in Elementary, Middle and High School so it did not seem like money well spent, but the extras they have such as tutoring or the weekly entertainment on campus make up for that as well as the quality of teaching in higher level classes.
Tips for prospective students Try a class in the different departments, you never know what you really love, or are really good at might not be something you would have thought of before if you don't.
Take a fun class every semester that is not the focus of your major or minor there are a lot of different options for dance or gym classes, or just a subject you enjoy but don't intend to concentrate in.
Take advantage of all of the different types of opportunities around campus and all of the different clubs that are offered.Great for these types of students Some of the departments are highly ranked, if your interested in one of those subjects its a great school for you. Also if you love lots of different learning styles rather than just straight up lecture.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have never learned so much in my life. In all of my classes, I have learned material that I never knew before. For example, in my Spanish class, my instructor has taught me in four months more than my Spanish teacher at my local high school for three years. Not only that, but I have also understood Math concepts better. I have learned time management and research skills as well.
Am enjoying being here The campus food is not the greatest but the surrounding area offers plenty of different cuisines to sate your hunger. The campus is pretty nice. Not a lot of stuff to do on campus. Evidently, this school is a commuter school. School gets VERY empty on weekends.
Bang for the buck Really affordable flagship university. For the education one receives, this is a really good deal. There is the lottery scholarship for in-state students (only requirement is have a 2.5 GPA with a minimum of 12 credit hours) and out-of-state students get a pretty sweet deal too, I heard. General scholarships are also available.
Tips for prospective students The professors, GA's and TA's are really the greatest resources available on UNM. Go ask them questions and even make comments during their office hours. It really makes the difference between a B and A. Also, learn to manage your time. Take advantage of the free tutoring service. Play hard, work harder.
Great for these types of students Self-motivated students who want to get into a reputable grad school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot In general, all of the professors here are great. I am currently a Junior and have enjoyed nearly every class I have taken. I have never taken a class that I have been very disappointed with and it is easy to get help for classes that are difficult. I have never finished a class feeling like I hadn't learned something.
Am enjoying being here UNM is a nice campus and there is a kind student environment. Albuquerque is a fairly large city and comes with some of the downfalls of a large city. There are lots of places to go and things to do, but there are dangerous areas and a large amount of vagrant types lurking around certain areas of the city. Once you have learned where to go and not to go, it is a great place.
Bang for the buck If you are a resident of New Mexico, there is no better deal than UNM. Tuition is free if you meet the reasonably easy standards to receive the Lottery Scholarship and maintain it over four years. The school is very good as a learning institution and surpasses all schools in the state aside from NM Tech in most major areas. The amazing financial benefits of going to UNM is one of the major reasons I chose the University.
Tips for prospective students Get to know Albuquerque and learn how to live and act in a city (especially if you come from a small town). Always get to know the professors because classes can be big and you don't want to be just another face in the crowd. Do the best you can your first few years because the classes only get harder and you don't want yor record to be tainted with C's or D's in classes like Soc 101 or Music Appreciation. Get involved in campus activities! UNM is a large school and if you don't put yourself in a place to be involved, then you will have a difficult time connecting with other students and the school. Live on campus your first year. There is very limited off campus housing and it will make your life so much easier to live in the dorms. Plus the dorms are the best way to meet new people.
Great for these types of students Good for the self-motivated student who is outgoing and has a high self-esteem. Like I have said before, UNM is big and so you need to be willing to put yourself into positions to get to know professors and other students. Many people that I knew left UNM because they were lonely and felt like an outcast, but it was because they sat in their room all day and didn't make an effort to be noticed. The people are friendly, but you will need to make an effort to get to know people.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I find that I am learning much more in college than in high school. The tests are more difficult (and tricky at times), which forces me to study even harder and learn more. I am only a sophomore now, but I intend to attain my doctorate to become a Medical Scientist.
I am one of those students that refuses to achieve any lower than a 4.0 GPA. This feat is somewhat more difficult at UNM than in other colleges. Unlike the colleges I have seen in Louisiana (where I am from), UNM's grading system is on a plus and minus scale. An A plus (which is hard to get) gives you a 4.33 GPA, while an A minus equates to a 3.66 GPA. Because I really want a 4.0 (or higher), I have to really make sure I am not venturing too low in the A range. I find that this pressure to not just earn an A, but a high A pushes me to study and learn even more than some of the other colleges I have considered.Am enjoying being here I love it here at UNM! I have lived in the humidity of Louisiana for most of my life, and I really enjoy the dry conditions of New Mexico in general. UNM is a really nice and relatively large campus, where it is nice enough to enjoy studying outside. I also really like the teachers and feel that I am receiving a good education. The teachers really want their students to succeed.
Bang for the buck UNM is a little cheaper than many colleges; however, I do think that it is a little unfair to out-of-state students like myself. Though out-of-state students pay outrageously more money to go to UNM (as well as most colleges), UNM still does not offer out-of-state students the same quality and quantity of scholarships. I have the Amigo Scholarship (the best scholarship specifically for out-of state students) which essentially allows me to pay in-state tuition. I do not have to pay extremely outrageous tuition, but about $3,000 per semester of in-state tuition is outrageous enough.
On the other hand, in-state students (who graduated from a New Mexico high school) are eligible for more and better scholarships. The financial aid office has confirmed this to me. The Lottery Scholarship, for example, is specifically for in-state students and will pay for full tuition as long as the student takes 12 credit hours per semester and maintains a 2.5 GPA. Does it really seem fair that a student taking 12 credit hours with a 2.5 GPA deserves a free ride while I take 16-17 credit hours and maintain a GPA that is over a 4.0? My point is that even if you are lucky enough to receive the Amigo Scholarship (which is pretty much as prestigious as it gets for out-of-state students), it is still really difficult for out-of-state students to get the financial help that they deserve at UNM. I really love this college, but UNM prefers helping New Mexico high school graduates instead of out-of-state students, regardless of which students seem more deserving.
As a relevant addition, the Regents scholarship is offered to both in and out-of-state students, and it provides a full ride. I interviewed for it; I was one of the few out-of-state students who qualified for the interview process, which already puts the odds against out-of-state students for attaining this scholarship. They also asked really weird questions with minimal relevance to my past experiences. For example, they asked me if I was a toy, what type would I be (action figure, etc.). The majority of questions were this way. The interview was a good test of creativity, but was not necessarily the best way to judge who was most deserving of such a prestigious scholarship in my opinion. Most recipients of Regents were and are in-state students, despite the fact that all of them already have full rides from the Lottery Scholarship.Tips for prospective students To succeed at UNM, you have to study hard and never give up; this is my attitude at UNM, and I am doing exceptionally well. Try to go up to teachers during their office hours and ask specific questions; this can drastically improve your academic performances in classes. If you are an in-state student and have decent grades, it should not be too difficult financially to attend UNM (maintaining a 2.5 GPA for the Lottery Scholarship is a piece of cake). If you are an out-of-state student, you may need to attain scholarships elsewhere to avoid debt. But at the same time, UNM is an exceptional research university. Though I have financial problems at UNM, it is the best university I have found for a career in medical research.
Great for these types of students I am currently majoring in Biology (and Chemistry). By my junior year, I will be able to enter the Biology Honors Program. This program will allow me to work under a medical researcher (someone in my future profession) as a junior. In many colleges I have looked at, this type of work study is not awarded until you are going for your graduate. UNM is a really good school for getting experience early in medical research.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At the University of New Mexico, I have experienced that the regular classroom learning environment can be enhanced by the type of people within the class. The different perspectives of people from various cultures and countries help to make UNM unique and an enjoyable place to learn.
Am enjoying being here UNM is a place where all kinds of organizations for the students exist. All students have to do is get involved in the activities and subjects they enjoy. Events are constantly happening. If you work hard at UNM, you can further your educational and career opportunities to progress to the next part of your career.
Great for these types of students UNM is great for all types of students. It is a professional research university and can accomodate students with a variety of interests in hundreds of fields and careers. I would recommend students have the ambition to pursue their dreams. But even if a student is just starting out and finding out what direction of study they wish to take, UNM has a multitude of fun and interesting classes that can be taken.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot UNM is a great upgrade from the Santa Fe Public School system. I'm actually learning at a pace that's right for me! The instructors challenge their students with their curriculum and promote self thought. Some courses (or instructors) tell students information and leave it at that, but I've encountered many professors that require their students to think for themselves and come up with their own answers/theories. I feel like I am receiving a quality education and that I will be prepared to work in the field of my degree.
Am enjoying being here I personally was bugged at the idea of ending up at UNM, but my perspective has changed on that. I am currently a junior at UNM and I have loved every year here. If you get involved with the community and organizations on campus, there is no excuse to be bored! Many of the clubs have weekly events and there is always something to do. I have met a lot of awesome people here at UNM and besides, being a Lobo is the best!
Bang for the buck College is expensive, no doubt about it, but I personally feel that I'm paying a decent amount for the level of education that I am receiving. As long as there are no more tuition increases, it will stay fine.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! Go out and meet people, attend events, join a club (or 10)! If you get involved you will have fun no matter what. Also, attend every class, seriously, do it! You'll regret it if you don't! If you are ever struggling in a class, go to tutoring, talk to the instructor. Don't be afraid to get out there and ask questions.
If financially possible, I also recommend living on campus for the freshmen year. It is an experience that every college student should have. You'll make life long friends and have a lot of awesome memories.Great for these types of students Attend UNM if you like meeting new people, are culturally tolerant, and if UNM has a good degree program for your interest. If you don't know if the degree program is good, find a student at UNM in the program and talk to them! Call around, call some professors in that specific field. Choosing a college is an important decision and not one to be chosen on a whim!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot With UNM, I feel as though I'm learning a LOT more in one semester than I ever did in a whole year in high school. I'm actually very impressed with this school- it challenges me, and I feel as if I'm receiving a good education. All of my professors have been really helpful and I actually enjoy going to class (most of the time). The exams are hard, but that's good because they're supposed to be! I would definitely recommend this school to others.
Am enjoying being here I don't necessarily like Albuquerque (that's my own opinion of course), but I do really like the school and I enjoy living on campus. Overall, the people at school are friendly and the campus is great. Also, there are plenty of activities going on- so there's always something to do!
Bang for the buck College IS expensive, but I overall think that the price of tuition here isn't too bad compared to other colleges. Granted, I pay in-state tuition, but the university offers plenty of scholarships for students who have a hard time paying for school. Since I felt that I have learned a lot, I would definitely say that it's worth the price.
Tips for prospective students Time management is key (but that's for any college). From my personal experience, I learned that procrastination is inevitable- but it really does hurt you in the end. In college (especially UNM), it's best to plan ahead and make time for all of your homework assignments. It really isn't fun to cram a 5 page paper a day before it's due. So- I would simply suggest to schedule homework and study time, because it'll really help!
Great for these types of students Overall, I think the University of New Mexico can be for any type of student. It's a pretty big school, so there's plenty of programs out there to suit different types of people. Although it's mostly known for it's medical and law schools, there are lots of other programs for students who decide to go into other fields.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of my classes are very organized and I am well informed on everything that is expected from each class. There are so many opportunities to study so many different subjects.
Am enjoying being here I love it at UNM. There are so many people to meet and there is always something happening. Professors are willing to work with you when you have problems and there are many resources to get help.
Bang for the buck New Mexican residents have a lot of help from the Lottery scholarship and in state tuition. Tuition and fees have increased.
Tips for prospective students Living on campus may be expensive but the convenience makes it worth it, because you can always walk back to your dorm if you forget something. When you live off campus, you have to deal with parking and parking at UNM is somewhat limited and they are very strict.
Great for these types of students UNM is great for anyone. There are so many degrees available and if you are undecided there are many classes to explore different fields of study.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This is my first semester in college, so a lot of my learning is based upon my willingness and ability. College is definitely way different from high school in the sense that you essentially have to teach yourself because you have to take the initiative to read and absorb the information.
I would absolutely recommend the Freshmen Academic Courses to any incoming freshman. It helps tremendously with the transition. The teachers understand that your new to this experience and they want to help the best they can. Most are willing to give you a few breaks too.
The big lectures are a little more difficult to adjust to, but probably my favorite. You'll never get called on in those classes when you don't know the answer ;) and often, it isn't necessary to go if you make sure to go to the review sessions before the tests.Am enjoying being here I joined a sorority and that is what makes my experience so wonderful. It doesn't really matter what you join (and you'll hear this a thousand times I'm sure) but GET INVOLVED. UNM doesn't really do a great job of involving all the students and integrating them into the campus. But if you join a sport or club, your experience will become that much better. Even just living in the dorms will make you feel as if you belong here more.
Bang for the buck I'm an in-state student so I get the lottery scholarship but the pricing isn't too bad. I've found a way to balance out the bills for my sorority, books, tuition, etc effectively so it costs my parents and me the least amount of money. It's really all about balancing and you have to be willing to look hard for scholarships and learn what meal plans or housing arrangements are best for your budget.
Tips for prospective students Look for scholarships. Just. Look for scholarships haha. Definitely try to register early because you do NOT want an 8 AM class. Partying is fun but learn how to prioritize your life. Sometimes you'll have to stay in to write a paper. :( Studying should take up more of your life than it did in high school, so be prepared for that. Freshmen should sign up for the Freshman Courses provided to them, it will be SO worth it.
Great for these types of students Students who are willing to get out there and meet people instead of waiting for people to come to them. Students who are smart about partying and academics. This school is a pretty good fit for most people though. It's hard to narrow down the right type of person.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I just graduated high school, and college is such a change! I have learned more in a week at UNM, than I did an entire semester in high school. The teachers are intelligent and really friendly. They are willing to help you every step of the way, but YOU have to put forth the effort so there's a lot more responsibility - which is a good thing, honestly. There are so many more options when it comes to courses and there is bound to be something you would enjoy.
Am enjoying being here I really do love UNM. The campus is great and the people are great, thus resulting in a great learning environment. I am in a dorm also, and the people on my floor are fabulous. You get to know a lot of people from very diverse backgrounds, regardless of if you dorm or not. It's also really easy to get around campus. You pick up where everything is very quickly and you can get to most of your classes within 15 minutes walking time.
Bang for the buck If you live in New Mexico, it is definitely worth it to go to UNM. Everyone knows instate tuition is cheaper, but if you are a NM resident you can apply for the lottery scholarship, which if you maintain a certain GPA, will cover your tuition all four years. Even if you don't like UNM you may have the option to go somewhere through them, for the same tuition rate. UNM is very much about accommodating students. They really want students to succeed and they try their best through various means of financial aid. Even if you're from out of state, there are various scholarships that you can apply for to help cover the cost. My roommate, for example, is here from another state and has a Portuguese scholarship paying for her schooling.
Tips for prospective students If you can, definitely dorm! It is really convenient and fun. Don't worry about knowing your major right off the bat, you can't declare one right away anyway. Don't overload your schedule with tough classes, take some fun ones like racquetball or swimming (which will also help you avoid the freshman 15!). Lastly, take interest in the classes you take - it's annoying when people don't care about their courses; you just waste every one's time.
Great for these types of students UNM is great for anybody! I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's true. If you're from NM it's great financially, if you are not from NM, there are plenty of options. There are sooo many classes that you can take and sooo many interesting people to meet.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are pretty good. I'm learning what I feel I should be learning and I am getting the knowledge I need to further my education and to help me in my major. Most of the teachers that I have had so far really work with you to help you if your struggling in your class whether it's sitting down with you and reviewing the material or suggesting someone who they believe can help you.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and there are so many places to hang out whether you want to have some quiet time to study or a nice place to hang out with friends. They duck pond is always a really relaxing place to hang out to study, eat lunch or catch up with friends. They have a variety of places you can eat. There's La Posada which is like the campus cafeteria and then in the SUB or Student Union Building there are a bunch of fast food restaurants such as Sonic, Saggios, and Mandalay Express.
Bang for the buck I think you get your moneys worth by going here. The food is good and so are the teachers. Also all the advisors and people that are there to help you if your struggling are really good resources.
Great for these types of students I think that this school is great for any type of student. It is just so versatile that it can accommodate most students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here at UNM really know what they're talking about, and you can really tell that they enjoy the field they are teaching in. Some of them are hard, and they;re sticklers for certain things but for the most part the teachers are laid back and relaxed but still challenge you at the same time.
Am enjoying being here I love the UNM campus. It's a beautiful campus with lots of trees and grass. It's great being able to go and lay out in the sun by the Duck Pond ans listen to the air in the trees, the water from the fountains and hearing the ducks running around quacking. It's an amazing stress reliever and I spend as much time out there as I can. It's gorgeous.
Bang for the buck Tuition for in-state students is pretty cheap compared to most colleges and that's always a plus. But even though it;s cheap, they don't skimp. They teachers and graduate assistants are very knowledgeable and always willing to help, the scenery is amazing and student fees give us great pluses to the campus. All in all, I consider UNM to be a win/win situation!
