    Am learning a lot

I love the classes here, and the teachers are very willing to help you out in anyway they can.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere is awesome. People are friendly and kind. I was the only person to come here from my high school, and I found many new friends.

    Bang for the buck

You can learn a lot here, and there are a ton of different class to take. They have many different major opportunities and something for every student.

    Tips for prospective students

Try something new, and explore your options. Also, use your student advisers. My adviser has helped me a bunchvwith choosing classes based on my major and getting to know the campus better.

Great for these types of students

Health care professions and aviation are the biggest draws UND, but I think that anyone would do well here. UND has a lot to offer so why not give it a try.

    Am learning a lot

Right now I am taking general classes, some are the same that I took in high school like psych, chemistry, and precalculus but the teachers cover the material in much greater detail.

    Am enjoying being here

They people here are really friendly and provide a welcoming environment. Hockey is also a big thing up here and I love it!

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other schools I looked at the University of North Dakota was way cheaper. You get unlimited meals (if you live in the dorms) and you get in to sports games for free (except for mens hockey, but it only costs $7!)

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you practice good study habits in high school because you really need them in college. If you study I recommend going to the library or to a coffee shop and don't bring your computer because you will just get distracted by facebook.

Great for these types of students

    Every student!

    Am learning a lot

I am definitely learning a bunch here at UND. The math classes I've had are better than any high school math, but the Chemistry classes I've had so far haven't been the best if you, like me, don't have a strong Chemistry background (thus the 4/5). A vast majority of the classes are well taught, but occasionally you will come across a dud.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is great, as are the people. There are many things to do on the weekends and it's very easy to keep busy. The campus is absolutely gorgeous, too!

    Bang for the buck

College isn't cheap, but UND is reasonably priced. The classes are well taught, so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready for the cold!! :) But really, bring a heavy coat.

Great for these types of students

I think that UND is great for almost anyone. However, if you need a big city, like Minneapolis, Chicago, or bigger, then Grand Forks, probably isn't for you.And if you're going into the sciences, it helps if you have a strong Chemistry background here. Also, I wasn't kidding about the cold, so if you are a beach bunny, you might want to reconsider your college choice.

The upperclasses in math are challenging but they will sure help you expand you knowledge on mathmatics.

    Am enjoying being here

The living environment is nice, the food is excellent, and the people are just like any other ND citizen, always nice.

    Bang for the buck

Room and board is a little on the spendy side for students on a budget, but for classes nothing will compare to the price you pay for the kind of education your getting.

    Tips for prospective students

Look into all your options before you make a decisions.

The Univerisity of North Dakota has a great team of staff, especially in the Biological Sciences department. The biology teachers here take a lot of pride in their lecture teachings asa well as their research studies. If you have questions or have trouble in any aspect of the class they are more than willing to take time out of their schedule to help you to understand the material that they are teaching. All of my teachers are very nice and student orientated. School here has been very effective in helping me to understand the different categories of my major and where exactly I would enjoy further learning of my major.

    Am enjoying being here

I love attending UND. The school is very safe and practices its moral values with the students. It is a great school and it is becoming very diverse among different ethnic groups. The school is like a great big family with very easy going open minded individuals who are willing to learn a little more about who you are and why you are here.

    Bang for the buck

You absolutely get MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK here. Teachers put more effort into teaching, the school is very affordable, offers many different grants and scholarships for students, and their athletic programs are fantastic. I am from california and the curriculum is just as competitive, organized, and proper for the majors that are offered.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember to bring a thick jacket because it gets cold here, other than that, be prepared to enjoy a wonderful community of students who are driven to prosper in life.

Great for these types of students

Students who are football and hockey fans, or even play these two sports are in for a treat. UND has the #1 hockey program in the country along with AVIATION. Students who are also interested in law and biological sciences will reap a lot of success and education from this university

I love the classes and professors here. All of mine so far have been very nice and helpful. I am an aviation student so there really is no better choice than UND.

    Am enjoying being here

The city isn't the greatest but the campus and the people are great. there are so many intramural sports and student organizations you can join.

    Tips for prospective students

This is an awesome school. I am currently a sophomore and i couldn't ask for a more fulfilling college experience. My advice is to be active and actually get involved in organizations. Go out and meet new people and you will have a much better experience

For the most part, the professors here know what they're talking about. You can see that they know their stuff and really enjoy what they teach.

    Am enjoying being here

The school atmosphere is great! Everyone is really nice and I feel like I'm in a small community. On the other hand, the weather here is terrible.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to a lot of other schools, UND is relatively low cost. The state of North Dakota keeps their universities costs low. This can most likely be attributed to philanthropic oil field owners.

    Tips for prospective students

Note: the weather is terrible. But don't let that scare you away. The school is great.

Great for these types of students

Aviation!! UND has one of the top aviation programs in the nation. Our flying team has won nationals for at least the past 4 years in a row and all the teachers have at one point been in the field that they are teaching.

This university specializes in teaching its students how to think critically. It focuses more on how to think intelligently to solve a problem, rather than how to physically approach it. I have no other universities to compare UND to, but I imagine that besides its reputation for drinking, it is a quality place to learn.

    Tips for prospective students

It is important to pay attention and complete all assignments - even the little ones - that professors assign. The little things add up! So spend that extra 30 minutes between classes studying. Look over those notes one more time before the test! Be an over- achiever. And a really important tip is to focus more on school your first year than on partying. The first few years of being out on your own can be a great experience, but can also be very harmful ones. If you abuse your new-found independence by never doing homework or drinking more than you should, it is very easy to get into deep trouble very quickly and even harder to recover from it.

    Academic Rigor

I have found that most of my instructors assign more work than is actually necessary to achieve good grades in their classes. It is possible to do the minimum amount of work and still receive a good score. However, the work that is done, must be done well. This is where the additional assignments come in. Usually, those optional assignments are tools or additional help and practice that will allow students to learn and know the material better. Hence why I would highly recommend doing as much of it as you can. I would say that it is better to take 13 credits and focus intensely on those 13 than to take 18 credits and only skim the surface of them. You may be able to receive As in both situations, but you will feel much more knowledgeable and accomplished in the former situation.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms can be either the best or the worst thing about college. There are many variables that play into whether you will enjoy (or hate) living in a dorm. The wonderful things about dorms are: their close location to campus, the extremely available opportunity for you to meet new people, you automatically find out about campus events, and when you only have one room to worry about, you can focus on school a lot more easily. However, there can be many bad qualities to dorms as well. For example, dorms are extremely populated, thus making them RARELY (if ever) a quiet place to be; even if you are alone in your room (walls are thin). Also, if you are not the partying type, the dorms may not be the place for you, as many dorms are populated with newly freed teenagers who are excited about exploring ALL of their boundaries, and then stepping over those boundaries. There is also the issue of roommates and suite-mates. It can be a very difficult thing to live in close proximity to someone you: a) have nothing in common with b) are totally annoyed with a majority of the time and c) wish would clean their side of the room. On a different note, many life-long friendships have been formed because of room or suite-mates. So I suppose that just depends on your personality and/or luck.

    Food and Dining

The dining plan and UND is actually the only thing I miss about living in the dorms. It is rather spendy, coming out to around $7/meal (if you eat thrice daily), but considering the amount of options available, the price may be worth it. There are 3 dining centers on campus, placed at either end with one in the middle. There is always a salad bar with fresh looking vegetables, all kinds of cereal, juice, milk, etc. There is a grill in each center which will change their focus throughout the week. Usually the options range from chicken breast, to hamburger, to Philly cheese steak. There are also specialty bars that will prepare pastas, oriental food, or latin food options. I could continue, but I think i have made my point. There are always plenty of options - healthy and non - to choose from in the dining centers. There are also enough condiments, dressings, etc. to prevent boredom of the same old food. I would highly recommend a meal plan.

    What to do for fun

On campus, there is a wonderful wellness center (gym) that is equipped with every kind of workout machine one could imagine. There is also a running track, basketball and volleyball courts, a rock wall, and even a dodge-ball court. There are also multiple seated areas to do homework, a small computer lab, and even a relaxation room used for meditation and such. the wellness center also features a kitchen, where classes are often taught on how to cook or how to prepare meals or snacks. Also, every weekend, the student union features a night filled with fun activities for students to partake in, usually for free or at a very low price. Every weekend during these events (called nightlife), a new release film is shown on a projector (also for free). Aside from these two major outlets, there are many clubs students can join which are constantly putting on smaller events for students to participate in. there is never a dull moment at UND unless you choose to be a recluse shut-in and not participate.

    Bang for the buck

There is a cinema located across the river from campus (in East Grand Forks) called River Cinema. It shows new movies just like all the other cinemas, but at a much lower price. Instead of buying a $9 movie ticket, ones from River cinema are $6-7, and even less for a daytime showing. In relation to campus, I like to save money by taking the bus instead of driving. It saves me money on gas. The bus makes a trip around the entire campus in about 20 minutes, so If you miss one bus, it will be there again in a short 20 minute wait. It is easy to get where you are going and best of all, it is free for students to use! As for tuition itself, it is nice if you get the in-state discount. It is half the price of what non-residents pay to come to UND.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I am not sure about locations, but I have heard there are many interesting traditions in the honors dorms. These range from pranks, to just plain strange behaviors that usually result in bonding between students. :) One example I heard of is that over one of the breaks from school, every student in one of the honors dorms played the exact same song turned all the way up on whatever stereo they had and then locked their rooms and went away for the weekend. This peculiar behavior seems to have no point from my standing, but I'm sure it must have resulted in some funny story somewhere in time.

Great for these types of students

UND is great for students interested in medicine and snow, law and snow, aviation and snow, and engineering and snow.

    Clubs and Activities

i am part of a nursing club and a christian club, but there are so, so many more to choose from. They range from ceramics, to swimming, to fighting, to horses, to flying, to *fill in the blank*. I can confidently say that if you are interested in something that is even relatively or remotely common, there is a club for it here at UND.

    Campus Safety

There have been very few crimes committed on campus in the past hundred years or so, and I believe the ones that have been committed have happened in the confines of fraternities. I personally like to jog at night and nothing has ever happened to me that would make me feel in danger of doing so. Grand Forks is a very, very, VERY, low crime area and very safe place to live. Even so, there are multiple emergency towers located all around campus, in places that are more secluded. These towers act as immediate 911 notifiers if a button is pressed. The towers were put in place for people who encountered a potential attacker whilst walking alone in each given area. I doubt they have ever been used, but are comforting none the less. Another safety aspect is that all buildings are locked around 11 o clock at night, so no one is able to break in to wreak havoc in classrooms. Also, each dorm has an automatic lock that only the residents have the keys to. Thus, any person not living in the dorm is unable to enter, unless someone knowingly lets them in. This is indeed comforting as well.

    Will learn a lot

I won't deny that you will learn, as that is what schools are designed for. I'm sure that the staff and other people are very helpful. At least, to those who will be on the AFB for aviation. They coddle those students like little kids.

    Will enjoy being here

After how insulting the staff was and how deceitful they were, there was no way I would enjoy UND as I was FORCED TO WITHDRAW from this school. Sorry, but that's ridiculous.

    Bang for the buck

If you can actually afford this place. Living on-campus while attending the school actually totals to about $21,000 or so per year, or about $10,500 per semester. There are many fees and hidden costs that they don't tell you up front like they should. I was never told about any deficit until I was 400 miles away from home and attending their orientation.

The school is big and beautiful and in a great location, but the staff is ridiculous and lazy. Sorry, but that's what I had to put up with. If you can't be up front to prospective students, don't be a faculty member. You're a waste of space.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have at least $22,000 to attend this school. If you don't have the semester's cost within the first week of classes, you're kicked from the school. It's nice that they have a Sallie Mae payment plan, but don't trust it. For one, it's Sallie Mae and they terrible. For two, you have to pay to set it up anyway. The last thing you need is to spend more money you don't have.

Great for these types of students

Rich people who want to pay private school tuition for a public university.

The atmosphere at the college is a friendly type that accepts you. UND provides for an exceptional study environment; Also allowing for opportunities for fun and stress release. I would recommend this college to all types of students

    Tips for prospective students

Freshman year, I would recommend living in the dorms so you can get to know some people. Take school seriously, instead of overly taking advantage of its party aspect. Enjoy yourself and try to learn something.

    Academic Rigor

Personally, the academics aren't to difficult. I feel like I learn a lot and that's what really matters.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great other than living next to noisy people which the school cannot control.

    Food and Dining

The food is great at first but then gets a little repetitive as time goes on.

    What to do for fun

Hockey games at UND are my favorite events to go to. The wellness center is amazing and provides for numerous activities and fun things to do.

    Bang for the buck

    Definitely worth the money!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Greek Life

Greek life isn't for me but those that are in Greek like seem to be having a blast at college.

The University of North Dakota is a great place to live and learn for an undergraduate education. There is a great Honors Program that allows students to take discussion-based courses and participate in service-learning. There are many exchange programs both to travel abroad and to meet students studying in the United States.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring warm clothes for winter, but also prepare for heat and wind. Get to know your professors and take advantage of all the opportunities UND offers for students to be more involved and engaged on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Like any four-year institution, if you're looking for academic challenges, you'll find them. If you want college to be easy, you can choose an easy program. It's all in your attitude!

    Dorm Life

Living in the Residence Halls at UND is great. You easily meet people, especially in your first year, and have Housing staff for support and opportunities to get involved.

    Food and Dining

The food is good at UND. There are 3 dining centers spread across campus and close to both academic and residential buildings.

    What to do for fun

There are always latenight events every weekend, as well as other events throughout the week.

    Bang for the buck

UND offers many scholarship opportunities and is a great price for the quality of education you receive!

    Clubs and Activities

Student Government is awesome at UND, as are the other 200+ student organizations. There is really something for everyone. If you can't find something you love, you can start your own student organization.

    Campus Safety

North Dakota is generally safe. Though any University has certain safety concerns, UND is relatively safe compared to other universities.

University of North Dakota Aviation program in Phoenix is awful. Don't waste your money here.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't do it. You will spend twice as much money getting a private pilots license here vs. going to ATP, where I transferred to, you will have issues going forward, with not enough hours when you graduate, etc. It has been one thing after another, and I spent $20,0000.00 on my private pilots license here and still having issues with the FAA telling me I didn't graduate from UND with enough hours.

    Academic Rigor

You will have constant issues with the instructors. You have to work around their schedules since most of them have other jobs, so it's difficult to schedule flight time. Then sometimes they will cancel or change things and not let you know. They knew that it took me an hour to drive there and refused to consider that when cancelling flights. Didn't check to make sure the building would be open and so after I drive an hour there, it's OOPS, we can't get in. Just a lot of crap like that, plus there were many things that I should have learned that were not taught.

    What to do for fun

    Don't go to school here!

    Bang for the buck

Awful. I was told I could get my pilots license for $10,000 to $12,000. It cost me $15,000 through UND, then I had to pay $5000 more for additional time at ATP because I didn't have enough private pilot hours to go to school there, and I am almost done with my program with ATP and still the issue of not enough hours from UND is causing me problems. It's been a constant headache.

Great for these types of students

    Not for aviation students.

The classes are great, not to big in size. The professors are nice and easy to talk to. The class choices are increditable.

    Dorm Life

    Food and Dining

I love the size of the campus and the facilities! It's just big enough to get that college feel, but small enough it's not that big of a hassle to walk everywhere. Also, I love the Aviation buildings and the FBO at KGFK

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of any of the services you possibly can and get help!!! The people at the service centers are more than willing to help and can do pretty much anything.

    Academic Rigor

The University of North Dakota is a great college that offers many different options for students' interests. It allows students to open their horizons and experience different programs. It's system is easy to navigate and the advisors are always available to students' needs.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to find the advisor that best fits your personality and needs. Also, learn the course expectations for each professor early on so you can do your best in their class.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is gruesome when it comes to the amount of homework given compared to high school. As long as you pay attention and ask questions if you need help, the actual level of difficulty will depend on your ability to do as the teacher wants.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is nice because you don't have to worry about monthly bills for the necessities and you don't have to set aside money specifically for groceries. However, the drama of high school is carried into college and the added stresses of finding your niche is a bit hard to deal with at times.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining is amazing here at UND! It does get tiring after a while because of the routine entrees served every week, but it is always available to students.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of activities to be apart of at UND. There are religious groups such as KiAlpha and Cru, and there are specific programs made by each RA for the wing about once every two weeks. Along with that, the Wellness Center has lots of different activities every day including cycling and Zumba.

    Bang for the buck

All in all, UND is an open campus that has a close community feel. It is only a little over $14,000 per year which has a lot of perks to other schools.

    Campus Safety

There is a great security here on campus. Placed throughout the campus are emergency phone booths, at which you can simply press the button for a security escort home if you are uncomfortable with walking home alone.

on a scale of one to ten i would give the university of north dakota a nine! the people are friendly, i like the snow, and the food is delicious. i have flown eight hours so far, the instructors are encouraging and fun!

    Tips for prospective students

north dakota has a great aviation program for both men and women. if you go into air traffic control, you should know that you will have to fly an airplane at least 12 hours. some controllers also want to be pilots, so they will fly at least 40 hours. in simulation there is much to memorize!

    Academic Rigor

the aviation instructors are pilots, the tests are not easy, they follow rules close to the faa regulations, you have to memorize everything for the tests because they don't tell you what might be on it. they give you 10 minutes to look at the results & then they take it back. but i'm learning a lot, so i will be confident in my skills.

    Dorm Life

i live in fulton hall. it is an honor's dorm, it is usually quiet here, with lots of nooks with study desks to study in outside your room. the bathrooms also have showers that are very modern & clean. there are party's for the holidays, and good snacks too.

    Food and Dining

the food here is great! they have fresh soup and salads with lunch and dinner. the soup in hearty in the winter and light in the fall. there is a nice variety of meats and fish. when you want something from the grill, they have that too, very good.

    What to do for fun

this is the hard part for me, my studies are so hard i can't do much outside of class. i want to join the atc club, but i can't manage it yet. i don't have a car, so i take the bus everywhere, there is a target fairly close. in the summer i will get a bike & discover grand forks.

    Bang for the buck

i have to study hard, but, if i finish this program, i will have a good job as an air traffic controller. it is required that you minor in another subject outside of aviation in case you do not pass the exams, so you have a major & a minor when you graduate and that gives you more job options for the money.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
