    Am learning a lot

At UNF, you will have so many choices of taking different classes. As a freshman enrolling at UNF, you are required to take a few different electives to expand your knowledge of the real world. Don't skip class, though! Attendance may not always be mandatory for certain classes, but you will regret falling behind and not everyone may take the same notes for you to study.

    Am enjoying being here

UNF offeres a wide range of students. There is plenty of GREEK life for students to learn more about, and there is a lot of different events and activities on campus that hand out free food and prizes. The Student Union center is where all the fun activities are held and oftentimes you will meet many people just hangin' around the bookstore or library.

    Bang for the buck

Having scholarships really do help, so focus and keep up the GPA so you don't lose your scholarship as college is an expensive investment!

    Tips for prospective students

Leave your house/dorm/apartment early enough to beat the morning class traffic. Parking is limited so if you do not have a premium parking pass, you will have to purchase a daily pass for $3.00 and park in the parking lots in the back. From there if you do not feel like walking you may take a UNF shuttle but be careful, they stop at every stop and you may be late for class. Prepare yourself and make sure you are up early to get a great start.

Great for these types of students

Students who enjoy the rush of a busy campus life, and those who are dedicated to putting time away for study hours.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a lot from my classes here. The professors are knowledgeable and approachable, and most class sizes are small and give you a more personal interaction with your fellow classmates and professors. The professors have office hours were you can stop by and ask questions, or you can email them if you so choose through Blackboard. You have the opportunity to learn more than what you need to know in order to pass. If you seek more information, you can head over to the rather enormous on-campus library, where you can study until late at night, with Starbucks just around the corner. Internships are available as well as research opportunities.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVED being a student here; I truly wish I didn't have to transfer home for financial reasons. The campus is absolutely gorgeous with all of its foliage, lakes, and geese (the geese are everywhere)! You often see students out on the campus green playing Frisbee or just lying down for a nap in the grass between classes. The Performing Arts Center is truly a sight, with its majestic columns and beautiful decoration. Its so easy to make friends with the laid back atmosphere of campus life. There are also plenty on on-campus jobs for those seeking to earn an extra buck. There is a huge shopping center not 5 miles from the school as well, for those who wish to work off campus. Some of the restaurants even except the UNF “Ozzie Bucks.” I loved going to UNF!

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get more bang for your buck at UNF. My stay at the Fountains dorm was like staying in a luxury hotel - lazy river, full size pool, laundry/kitchen/trash rooms on every floor, and a game room, 24 hour gym, and convenience store right downstairs. If you sign up for a meal plan, you can choose between 10, 14, or 19 meals a week, where you can choose to eat at the buffet-style cafeteria (they will be remodeling next year) or the many on-campus restaurants, or both! There is also a full gym (currently being remodeled, and temporarily stationed at the on-campus arena) that is free for UNF students with their UNF ID. At the Performing Arts Center, students can enjoy many free performances by both local and famous groups (BOB gave a performance this year!). There are nature trails, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing ponds, all free to UNF students. Not to mention that UNF is about 10 minutes from the beach.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early! And consider applying for programs such as the Honors Program, which look great on resumes. Take time to figure out what and when you eat before you choose a meal plan. And trust me, the food doesn’t suck. Decide whether or not you want comfort or the basics before you apply for housing and make sure you read up on the perks each dorm has. You can also choose which roommates you want. I wish I’d known about all of the free services UNF had to offer before I went out and bought them for myself. If you’re planning on joining any sort of ensemble or team, make sure you email the coach or director beforehand to discuss auditions and tryouts – you may need time to prepare. And always check out the scholarships UNF offers!

Great for these types of students

UNF is great for any student who wants to go away to college. The dorms feel more and more like home and it’s great to live with your friends. The students at UNF are there because they are serious about their education. UNF is great for students who work hard and aren’t afraid to ask questions. That’s what the counselors are there for. Students looking to go into Nursing would have ample opportunity at the wonderful Nursing Program at UNF. The Business Program is also good. Students who wish to make a difference will find their niche in the Student Government. Students looking for leadership opportunities will have plenty options.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here generally take their time teaching the material. You really learn as much as you are willing to though. I've realized that one of the best things about UNF is that the classes are never so huge that the professor doesn't have time to answer questions or give individual help. I think that this kinda goes along with the whole UNF saying, No one like you, no place like this.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the fact that UNF is a smaller university, but still has a lot going on throughout the campus. I'm never overwhelmed, but I can always find something to do. I've also really enjoyed running through the nature trails and kayaking on the lake (UNF is basically on a nature preserve I believe). Being an active person, I have found it really convenient that I can walk to the pool, gym, and nature trails in under 15 minutes no matter where I am on campus. Everything is very compact, but not so squished together that the campus is cramped. The dorms are also very spacious and well taken care of. Oh, and the beach is 5-10 minutes away from campus. Being someone without a car, it's nice to know that I could at least go for a 30 minute run and reach the ocean.

    Bang for the buck

Right now I have everything I need right here on campus, however there is a lot of construction going on. A new cafeteria and wellness center are being built right now, meaning the gym is temporarily in the arena and the cafeteria is dispersed wherever. Other than that, UNF offers a lot that I would consider a bang for the buck. At the nature trails you can check out free camping gear, surfboards, kayaks, canoes, and various outdoorsy equipment. There's also a lot of free food events, clubs to get involved with, free admission to sporting events of course...I also think being so close to the beach is great because, besides gas, that is free fun right there! Oh, and the education is pretty great too. Free tutoring is offered on a pretty regular basis. It has helped me out tremendously.

    Tips for prospective students

I will be honest, UNF is not as hard to get into as UF or FSU...but it is a growing school that I think is only getting better. I would definitely apply early, and focus on SAT scores, plus community service. UNF will really reward those students who come in with great GPAs and test scores as well. They also take a lot of AP credits. When I got here I got full credit for my AP Macro-economics, AP Psych, and AP Literature.

Great for these types of students

I think UNF is a great school for someone who is looking to go to a University to learn and grow as a person, not just for the parties, football, and Greek life. In a way it's great that UNF doesn't have the craziness (frat houses, football games, bars on campus) that some other schools have that can be potentially distracting. Often times the campus is very quiet and serene. There are plenty of shops, clubs, and fun places right outside of the campus to enjoy. It's like having the best of both worlds really. If you can see yourself at a school where the teacher knows your name, there is a facebook page for everything, salt-life is a common car sticker, Starbucks is the place to be, and dub-step/alternative rock music can be frequently heard over the speakers in the student union...then this is the place for you.

this is a beautiful campus with a lot to do and many people to interact with.
the admission process for unf is very painless compared to other larger universities.
the classes and staff are very well set up, friendly, and helpful here.

    Tips for prospective students

you have to have a very motivated work ethic when entering into college. unlike high school college professors aren't going to hold your hand and make you do what you must to pass the course. all are helpful and will offer help when needed but you must study and keep up with your own materials to make it.

    Academic Rigor

unf is a very demanding institution and commands the best from it's students. which is a very good thing if you want to be successful.

    Dorm Life

th edorm life is ok there are many great people to socialize with but i wouldn't rate it as a top dorm life school.

    Food and Dining

unf offers a few large food chain options on campus and a student dining hall.

    What to do for fun

there are a ton of activities and areas to socialize with friends on the unf campus.

it is a great academic school. it is very political in its approach to respect the versatile student body. it is very proactive in community service.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you apply as many scholarships as you can so you wont have to pay as much for the difference. take advantage of the tutors and resources to help you with your coursework.

    Academic Rigor

most of the classes are farely small so the teacher can help you out more in the class.

    Dorm Life

this depends on the roommates and the respect that they have on each other as far as the room goes.

    Food and Dining

food is expensive on campus. the food is fairly good but some of the food like pizza is bland. also some of it is not always fresh.

    What to do for fun

the school have many different events like movie night and socials like ice cream social for the student body.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the osprey green where it advocates free speech so anybody offcampus or oncampus can speak and do whatever they freely choose to do as long as it does not physically harm or verbally abuse anybody.

    Clubs and Activities

it has many different clubs that mainly targets leadership like the student union club and student veterans association club.

    Greek Life

lots of fraternites and sororites but they are not real active in displaying their activity.

    Campus Safety

for the most part it is safe but there has been recent news of attempted robbery by the dorms during the day time but not anywhere else at the school.

I feel that UNF is a fine school with a broad selection of fields to study. The only issue I personally have is the way students are notified two days before of upcoming due dates. Other than that one issue, the school is wonderful.

    Tips for prospective students

Speak to your advisers frequently, and make sure that you are taking necessary classes and not wasting time.

    What to do for fun

There are always activities going on around the campus. There are plays, concerts, sports, and campus parties hosted by different organizations in the school.

I think that this University is very student friendly and the faculty here are willing to help the students out. Also, the campus is very nice and it has a lot of nature. So far so good!

    Tips for prospective students

It is a pretty large campus, so starting out when looking for classes be sure to have a map because the building numbers do not make much sense. Also, for me, the classrooms seem to be a little chilly so you may want to bring a light jacket to class.

    Academic Rigor

Depending which class you take will determine how difficult the material and the flexibility of the course. This also depends on the instructor you take, but overall I do not think the classes are overly tough as long as you put in the time to study.

    Dorm Life

Being a transfer student and never living on campus before, I really like the dorm life here. There is plenty to do and as I mentioned earlier the staff is very friendly.

    Food and Dining

The Boathouse restaurant on campus is a pretty nice place to grab lunch or dinner. There is a bar there, as well as plenty of televisions to sit, eat, and watch sporting events. The cafeteria is also nice, however right now they are in the process of building a new cafe.

    What to do for fun

They have concerts here every semester and small events and movies, which is nice for when you have the time. Also, the beach is close! On campus there is also kayaking and they just built a challenge course. If you decide to live in the Fountains they have 2 pools, one is an active pool (with lap pool), and a lazy river.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for nature-lovers!

    Campus Safety

While walking through and across campus, there are emergency boxes placed everywhere. They offer a good amount of safety tips also.

I like the open feel to the campus. The teachers are awesome, and they care about the students. I wish my program had more class options during the summer.

    Tips for prospective students

Get familiar with the location of UNF One Stop. That building will more than likely fix any problems you ever have, but it's not in a conspicuous location.

    Academic Rigor

My program (psychology) takes professionalism quite seriously.

    Dorm Life

I have no idea, I live off campus.

    Food and Dining

Like all on-campus food places, overpriced and franchised. Boring and safe. Emphasis on boring.

    What to do for fun

There's a recreation room that looks to be fun for those that like hanging out with the few people that NEVER leave that game seats their. Swimming pool with odd hours and a confusing schedule, and the athletic area that is currently under construction...still.

    Bang for the buck

Like most of the other universities in Florida, they offer quite a bit for your money. The usual sports and exercise areas, a large library (with very few group study rooms), a pseudo-clinic for when you're not feeling well, etc.

Lots of the usuals, and the price for classes is quite decent.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    None that I know of.

Great for these types of students

All age groups look comfortable here and in class.

    Clubs and Activities

Same as nearly all other schools.

    Greek Life

Always thought of this as a waste of time, life, and money.

    Campus Safety

The occasional weird broken law. Had a rash of parking lot robberies that that were very strange.

One arson in an elevator over spring break. College kids are idiots.

Oh my goodness what an awesome university! Not only is the University of North Florida unique in the sense that it is a big school with a small school feeling, but simply the level of care and attention that all staff give to students is unrivaled by any other university that I have visited. Even the intimidating university police officers will kindly approach you, greet you, show you around campus--even offer to buy you a snack from one of the student union cafes!

    Tips for prospective students

Any prospective students to the University of North Florida should seriously consider all of the global influence that UNF has to offer its students. Between all of the outreach programs, study abroad opportunities, and foreign assimilation programs that the University of North Florida offers, there is now wonder why UNF has global renown.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are some of the most challenging a student can take, yet they are equally as rewarding. The classes are not merely hours of lectures and note-taking; in fact, a majority of the classes offer a break portion in which students are allowed to complete class discussions in small groups outside of the classroom! Taking classes at the university is ultimatley what you make of it.

    Dorm Life

All of the dorms are fully stocked with cooking appliances, washing machines, and just an all-around great atmosphere. Seeing as how the university is founded on acres of nature preserves, athletes have swift access to run, bike on, or simply traverse the miles of nature trails around the dorms.

    Food and Dining

There is a belief that college students will join clubs, come to socials, and attend meetings for the prospect of a meal. At the University of North Florida, not only is one's student e-mail inbox constantly filling with e-mails about dining opportunities around campus, but various clubs post signs in the windows of buildings to announce free food to all who join in on a club meeting. If snacks are not the true interest, then the dining experiences at UNF are still commendable for culinary cuisine! If the campus restaurants and cafes still fail to slake one's hunger, then not even a mile away from campus exists a colorful array of restaurants that offer special discounts to students!

    What to do for fun

UNF is situated in the ever-changing town of Jacksonville, Florida. There is always something to do! Theme parks like Lego Land, white-sanded beaches, and all of the fine dining you could ask for await students who attend the University of North Florida.

    Bang for the buck

The price of a student may be different, but every student experiences opportunities to help them build character, make friends, and grow as young adults invariably. You really must see the university for yourself to see just how wide the gamut of opportunities is for students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At the University of North Florida, there is an abundance of geese. They practically outnumber the student population! Therefore, some fraternities and sororities at the university use goose-shaped trophies as awards!

Great for these types of students

The University of North Florida is ideal for a student who wants to go to a large campus and not feel like just another number, like at some campuses with an inflated number of students in its population. The average class teacher-to-student ratio is 1 to 12, just as an example.

    Clubs and Activities

Any club that you cannot find at the University of North Florida--and believe me, you really have to look hard to find a club that is not already established--you can just gather three members and, with an administrator's endorsement, you will create your own club!

    Greek Life

All 23 sororities/fraternities raise an average of 7 million dollars for the community each year.

    Campus Safety

Peppered throughout the campus are safety poles. If at any time a student is in an emergency, feels undsafe, or even just needs a ride to a particular building, all he or she must do is press the button on the safety pole and an officer will arive within a minute.

The school is developing and advancing very rapidly. Its becoming more known nationally. Has great programs that have great rating on the Princeton review.

    Tips for prospective students

Do as many extra curricular activities as you can while in high school, and when you get here get involved, there are over 180 clubs and many sororities and fraternities to get involved in as well.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on your major though.

    Dorm Life

They are currently building new dorms as we speak.

    Food and Dining

It not the home cooking that your used to, but they did build a new cafe so maybe it will get better. They also added a Chik-fil-A and a Papa John pizza to the dinning options though.

    What to do for fun

    Bang for the buck

Not that expensive compared to other school, unless your from out of State but its still cheaper than most.

Coming to UNF was the best decision of my life. If you want a school that is ten minutes from the beach and downtown all while having the opportunity to immerse yourself in a small school atmosphere. You get the one-on-one relationships with actual professors you won't get anywhere else.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved immediately, serving as a tour guide, orientation leader, Senator in Student Government, a Chair of a campus wide committee and being involved in Greek Life has truly molded me into the woman I am today. If you go straight to class and straight home then you truly aren't getting your college experience. Go outside of your comfort zone and you truly will not regret anything you end up doing in your college years.

    Academic Rigor

No matter what school you attend always know that academics come first and fun comes second. However, I truly believe that learning in college is a lot of fun because it is the classes you will be taking for your future. If you study and put in 100% you will then get back 100%, don't procrastinate and don't forget to ask questions or ask for help!

    Dorm Life

UNF's typical freshman dorms were originally made for three people however, now only two students are in these dorms. You share a bathroom with one other person, there are three closets to split and you have plenty of room to put anything you want in your dorm! Living in the dorms was and continues to be the greatest experience.

    Food and Dining

UNF is currently building a new dining facility to be open in August of 2013. It will be four stories with different stations ranging from pizza to organic foods. Dining on campus is not just for freshman but something every student at UNF takes advantage of!

    What to do for fun

Living so close to the beach and so close to downtown, what isn't there to do?! Jacksonville is able to offer free country concerts, beach days and able to become involved in great organizations!

    Bang for the buck

UNF has been ranked one of the most valuable colleges in the nation by the Princeton Review. If you want to see your professor every day in class, not have a lecture hall larger than 170 students and be able to go to your own professors office hours then UNF is the perfect choice for you!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

UNF is located on a nature preserve, we sit on 1300 acres, 350 of those acres will never be built on because those are what we call wetland areas. UNF is located in Jacksonville, which is the largest city in the nation by means of area the city covers, and yet UNF is able to maintain a quaint atmosphere even though the campus is surrounded by a huge city on the outside of campus.

Great for these types of students

If you like to go to the beach, love laid back and easy going people then UNF is the perfect place for you to be! We truly believe that since we are small for a Florida school and so close to the beach that UNF truly is a school that students come to not to get lost in a sea of people but to make your own name for yourself no matter who or what you know.

    Clubs and Activities

Currently, UNF has about over 250 clubs on campus! If we do not have a club that you want, all you have to do is go to Club Alliance, an agency of Student Government, and have at least 10 members and a faculty advisor and the club can be started! If you want to make a peanut butter and jelly club, get 10 of your friends who like pb&j sandwiches and it is as easy as that!

    Greek Life

11% of our student population is Greek, but about 90% of our campus leadership is Greek, this being students who have positions in Student Government, Campus Wide Committees, Tour Guides, Orientation Leaders, and club members. Going Greek was the best decision of my life and at UNF we are small enough to be able to work together and truly be here for each organization in means of membership, leadership and philanthropic events. Each organization has a philanthropy or charity they support and every other organization does the most they can to support eachother. UNF truly is a one of a kind Greek Community.

    Campus Safety

UNF is the third safest school in the state of Florida and our biggest crime on campus is petty theft. Our University Police Department is here as protection 24/7, if you ever need an escort back to your car, dorm or another building you can always call our UPD. Being on campus for four years, I have always felt extremely safe and protected.

UNF not only has a beautiful campus, but they have also done a lot of renovations to the buildings recently that make learning much easier.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you frequently check your mywings account and UNF email. Almost all important information will be sent to your email.

    Academic Rigor

I have felt challenged in every course that I have taken at UNF. I was also fortunate to have extremely helpful professors when I was enrolled there as well.

    Dorm Life

I lived in the dorm my first year at UNF and really enjoyed it. My resident assistant was really great about organizing events for people to get to know each other.

    Food and Dining

UNF has several restaurants on campus that are actually really good. There is also a food court that is convenient when you don't have a lot of time between your classes.

    Campus Safety

This university provides a challenging and rewarding experience in and out of the classroom. Both extracurricular and academic activities are preparing me for the work force.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready for sunny days and great weather here in Florida. The college offers great degree programs that are nationally recognized. The college is steadily growing and adding to its campus.

    Academic Rigor

The degree program you choose varies in difficulty time and effort are required. Expect alot of one on one attention and professors who are more than happy to assist you, if you show dedication.

    Dorm Life

I lived on campus for 2 years. It was a unique experience. Being an only child and coming from a single parent house hold the adjustment was challenging. I suggest finding a friend ahead of time to dorm with.

    Food and Dining

On campus food is delicious for the price you pay if you purchase a meal plan. There are alot restaurants in the surrounding area that accept the dollars you put on your student ID card. The first week of classes is always the best because there is nothing but free food.

    What to do for fun

From the gameroom with all of the latest video game systems to the river canoeing that is available on campus there is never a dull moment. Students will enjoy multiple concerts as well as special events on campus.

    Bang for the buck

There are multiple options for dining and living on campus that are acquainted with the students pockets. On campus living has great dorms that range from 1500 to 3500 dollars depending on the dorm. Food is the cheapest in the cafeteria and I enjoyed most of the dishes. On nights where I did not care for the food I would go to the multiple other restaurants in the student union and dorm lobby.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Trees trees trees everywhere you look on campus. If you are a fan of wildlife and natural beauty you are in for a treat. The campus has miles of nature trails that are often enjoyed by many students.

Great for these types of students

This school is great students who learn better with one on one attention academically, and enjoy a down-home environment with a great deal of diversity among its students and faculty.

    Campus Safety

Safety is very important and held in high regard on campus. Even at the late hours you will find campus PD patrolling on high looking for suspicious activiy. When you walk 10 feet you will find an emergency station that will immediately patch you through to a campus PD officer.

The students and administration are very down-to-earth. The population of this school is just the right fit, so the feeling of getting swallowed up in the numbers is not an issue. The school spirit of SWOOP is alive and well, but not overwhelming that it takes precedent over the studies.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your applications in early and apply for the local admission clinics in your area, if you are lucky enough to have one. Early application process is key, especially if you have borderline grades or ACT scores.
Take advantage of the Living and Learning Communities.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is what you make it. There is an Honors dorm area with areas specified for your major, if you choose to join. No college is ever easy, but you can do well if you apply yourself.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are nice, some are newer than others. The communities of the dorms helps you stay plugged into the college life and there are more opportunities network, study and hang out. Someone who is feeling homesick can benefit from the dorm life. Everyone is very friendly and helpful

    Food and Dining

The new UNF dining hall is nearing completion. All incoming freshman must be on the meal plan. There is a lot of food and also a lot of options based on your eating style.

    What to do for fun

The weather is wonderful in Florida so hanging out of the dorms is always nice. There are large sitting areas all over the campus, so there is no shortage on areas to hangout with friends, just watch out for the Canadian Geese contributions, it's everywhere.

    Bang for the buck

After the first year, getting off the meal plan saves money. There are much more economical ways to eat. Renting books or getting e-books is much cheaper way to go. Check out the bulletin boards for ride-share programs and people selling or needing to buy items.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Being able to SWOOP is a must. That is what the mascot Osprey does to it's meal of choice. The Student Union has been voted one of the nicest in the country. An unusual activity is having to wait for the geese to cross the road, and yes, the use the crosswalk. They take their time too. The Green is the area where many students hang out, plus it's the free speech area and that can get out of hand with overzealous speakers. Skateboarding is the most popular form of wheeled transportation, non-motorized.

Great for these types of students

This is a great college for those looking for a smaller population, which is about 16,000, at public school prices. Less than half of the student population lives on campus, so there is not an overwhelming amount of students to overcrowd the campus. The campus is small enough that you don't need a car to get from one end to the next, just a skateboard or the shuttle, Campus Connector. This was the best fit for me based on size of campus, student population and proximity to home in Orlando.

    Clubs and Activities

LGBT, Student Ministries, Student Government, Greek, Philanthropy, Osprey Productions, which is the media relations department; The Spinnaker is the news paper, taking student contributors.

    Greek Life

Greek life is very diverse, for many different interests. There are no Greek houses yet but they are working on it. Sorority prices are more costly than Fraternity. They say that those who go Greek, get better grades. The cost of Greek is what filtered me out, however. I am not a terribly social person, so that would have been somewhat infringing, as well.

    Campus Safety

Everywhere you stand on campus, you will see blue poles with a telephone. For any reason at all, being that you feel you are being followed, unsafe, etc, the campus police are never too far away to respond. The campus police system are fully certified police officers, with all arresting rights. The most common crime is parking pass theft. Crimes of opportunity are the most prevalent. Violent crimes are very, very rare.

i would rate unf at 3.8 out of 5. it's a pretty good school and i'm really enjoying my time here. i'm not especially involved in too much but they provide so many opportunities for students i think it's impossible to be here for four years and not get involved in something.

    Tips for prospective students

beware the prices around unf! don't take me too seriously, no, things are rather expensive (food, starbucks is more on campus than off campus, the campus bookstore, tickets from the police, haha) but with all the concerts and entertainment programs they have available to students that you get into for free (sometimes you can even bring a +1) it's pretty cool. it's not perfect but it's a pretty campus and even though it's kind of big (16,000+ students/faculty) i feel like people still make the time to try to make personal connections with people and help you out in any way that they can. you don't have to come into college with a plan, things change a lot with people out here but just come with an open mind and want to be here and the people you meet and your experiences is what endears unf to people.

    Academic Rigor

some of these professors are hardcore! not to scare people but they are serious about what they teach. some professors are pretty laid back, almost to the point where you might wonder how they are still teaching... and most professors out at unf are rather in the middle. they have some serious stuff to teach that they want you to learn but they can also make class time enjoyable, or at least they put in an effort to. don't ever let the first week of classes fool you into thinking it's going to be hard or easy, it'll usually surprise you.

    Dorm Life

    my recommendations for student living:
    the village and the fountains
of course the aforementioned are upperclassmen level housing but there is also off campus student housing, the district and the flats as well as other places that offer student discounts to college students. the underclassmen housing on campus isn't bad...i mean if you want that whole roommate, common-room, immersement in interaction of dorm living then yeah, the cove, crossings and landing are for you (it wasn't for me)...but if not there are many other options available to you.

    Food and Dining

starbucks (you pay more on campus than up at the town center where there are like 4 other starbucks)
sbarro (never actually been in there)
outtakes (basically a convenience store, where they charge you more haha, but they do have dunkin' donuts coffee which is way cheaper than starbucks coffee but also not as good. to me at least.)
the boathouse (our restaurant, that charges restaurant prices but in my opinion the food is like 3 star)
freshens (serves sushi, milkshakes and ice cream...in the same place...beside each other *shudder)
campus cafeteria (it's alright, i've only been there once...the meal plans are insane)

    What to do for fun

st. johns town center & avenues mall (shopping, which i love and i always get my fix since both are really close to the campus)
tinseltown & regal 20 (theatres, my recommendation...regal is a little bit farther away, closer to avenues mall, but on sundays movies are $5)
latitude 30 as well as mulitple other bowling lanes
the beach!! (which is where i love to be during most of the year)
    plenty of clubs
    st. augustine
the landing which is downtown and they have concerts and performances and an annual jazz festival
    museums & libraries
    concerts
2 hours by drive away from orlando which can be a fun weekend trip
    4-5 hours away from miami

Great for these types of students

unf welcomes all students, but if you don't plan on networking or getting out of your dorm room, then it probably won't be a fun experience.

    Clubs and Activities

unf hosts many clubs, but sometimes i wish for one that would be easy to meet and greet with, on campus. many of our clubs focus on religion or ethnicity, or greek life. when i came, i wanted smaller, more hobby-like clubs that i could relax and socialize in. thing about unf though, it's easy to make and get funding for your club, so i might toy with the idea when i get the chance to really focus on it.

The campus is compact, which means if you're living on campus you can walk pretty much anywhere within 15 minutes. Coupled with the fact that Town Center is less than two miles away and this campus is like a dream come true. Everything you need or want is within easy access here. Except rock climbing, but the upcoming wellness center will amend that.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is fairly low, so along with all your scholarships and grants you will likely be paying less than $2,000 out of pocket, so grab a subsidized loan from Uncle Sam and you're golden.

Great for these types of students

It's great for everyone, really. College in general, of course, is for those who want to learn and get a degree to have a better chance in the workforce, and at UNF if you work hard you'll get ahead--what with honors programs, tutoring, and advising. So it's good for people who want to learn.

It's very close to the beach, do you like to be tan? Cool, you can do that here.

Osprey Productions has a budget of over $4 million dollars every year. Do you like to party? Do you like concerts? Fantastic, UNF is the host to at least one concert per semester. This (2011) semester we hosted LMFAO and Jason Derulo.

Many of the chemistry and math professors are foreign and have strong accents that are hard to understand. However, the school provides many wonderful tutoring services and most of the professors are willing to help, so learning is made easy.

    Am enjoying being here

Even though there is not a football team, the school spirit is strong. There are so many clubs and sports activities that there is always something to do. Unfortunately there is a lot of construction going on and they are taking a long time to complete the projects.

    Bang for the buck

The student government is very active and there are a large amount of clubs for students to join. Osprey Productions host free events weekly, the game room has free games to play seven days a week, and if you live on campus the RA's host free weekly events too.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on attending UNF, I recommend living on campus and joining a club. It is a great way to meet friends with similar interests. Make sure to take advantage of the free tutoring.

Great for these types of students

UNF is great for students who want a private school feel. There is a lot of school pride, and most of the class sizes are reasonable. The university is also making renovations which include a new dining hall and gymnasium. So if you are a progressive type of student, UNF is for you.

You can get an amazing education at UNF so long as you are willing to work for it. The professors are all top notch.

    Am enjoying being here

Tons of free stuff for students to do, and even more for the residents. Gorgeous campus to enjoy.

    Bang for the buck

Less than half the price of some larger schools but for an almost identical education. It's always one of the best valued school for what you'll get for the tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and don't go in with your heart set on one major or program. Learn about anything and everything that interests you. You might be surprised what you end up studying.

Anyone who values getting a good education without being a number in a lecture hall.

    Will learn a lot

Almost all of the teachers at this school have attained the highest degree in their field! You know you'll learn something if the teachers know just about everything about their subject. They also have an excellent open door policy! I can't wait to start.

    Will enjoy being here

Not only are there tons of amazing clubs they offer, they are literally 10 minutes away from the beach and are super close to Saint. Augustine. There is nature everywhere and the campus is extremely beautiful. The mall is right next to it as well! There's no way someone could not enjoy being there.

    Bang for the buck

The rooms are very big for the freshman and you get all of the good things you'd get at any other University, plus beauty and quick access to all of the goods that come around the school.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't go here if you don't like the wildlife.

Great for these types of students

    Am learning a lot

Entering my senior year at University of North Florida, my learning has most definitely increased. I have become knowledgeable on more topics than I ever thought possible. Not only have a gained my own personal feeling towards topics, but I have learned how to read into other's feelings as well. When the work learning is used, this does not limit to book knowledge. I have learned more about life, my future, personal skills, and most importantly, I have learned about myself! By getting involved in extracurricular activities: Kappa Delta Sorority, International Business Society, and Women in Business, I have been provided with so many more opportunities than I thought possible. I have learned that I want to travel around the world for a living. I have learned that I have such a huge passion for helping people in my community and in need. And I have learned that as a female, I CAN and WILL make it far in business. These are skills I would never have learned from anywhere besides University of North Florida.

    Am enjoying being here

I have never looked back on my decision of attending UNF. The only regret I have ever had is not taking summer classes this past summer. I have made so many friends, grown closer to professors who actually care about my future, and traveled the world on a study abroad class! My time at UNF will never be replaced. With classes starting for me tomorrow, I am filled with butterflies to walk back on campus and be surrounded around the environment I can call home away from home. If you are concerned with finding a location that will fit you best, then take my advice! Do not put this school off, you will never regret it!

    Bang for the buck

With the price of tuition coming to increase, I want to be at a campus that offers me more than I can handle. I found that at UNF. The campus is all closely location in a large circle, allowing you access to everything at once. There are over 5 different locations to live on campus, with their own parties, games, events taking place on a weekly basis. The Student Union is a huge 3 story fun packed location. The outside is always detailed with the top music hits playing, greek letters, leadership groups spread out, and footballs flying over head. Inside the glass walls, there is 3 floors of fun. They have jam-packed the building with a huge game room, theatre, art gallery, restaurants, fast food, and FUN. If you are on break from class, this is the place to relax. Just next to the Student Union is the amphitheatre, where so many FREE top concerts are located. We have had some awesome singers and rappers performed at UNF, and have always been free, compliments of UNF. To continue this long list of option available, UNF has a huge 2.5 story brand new gym that was constructed. You will never need to worry about the freshman 15 at this location. In the warmer months, head over to the pool to cool off or relax during a Dive-In Movie. To top it all off, if you are free one evening, head out to one of the numerous sports fields to watch the Ospreys play. With almost ever sport offered, you can never miss out on your favorite players and games! All of these offers are available to you for FREE, just for being an Osprey!

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED. I cannot stress this enough. If you do not get involved into groups that match your interests, you will never grow as a student and individual. UNF offers so many different groups, societies, etc. that there is going to be at least once place that you will fit perfectly. The best thing about all of these different options is that you have the chance to test them out and see if it is right for you. You have the option to GO GREEK, or get involved in politics, or become a volunteer in the library. There are so many options available for you that there is NO REASON for you to be driving home on the weekend to visit parents.

Great for these types of students

UNF is the perfect place for any student who doesn't want a HUGE campus, considering we are sitting around 30,000 students. We only have 1 location, making everything very convenient and close together. Also, we have 5 different colleges throughout UNF: health, business, engineering, education, and science. If you are interested in a successful future, I can guarantee we have a program or major/minor to meet your needs! If you have seen yourself as the leader of your class, the next president, or a community volunteer... then UNF is your school!

    Am learning a lot

While at UNF you learn a great deal about your major, your professors, your surroundings, and the people that you interact with. So long as you get a decent professor you learn a lot during class, but if you don't get a decent professor you learn what type of professor you like that benefits your learning style.

    Am enjoying being here

I truly love UNF, but I also enjoy the city itself. There is always something to do either on-campus or off and you're only 15 minutes away from the beach while on-campus.

    Bang for the buck

As with most colleges you see a lot of fees for things you don't use, however at UNF you notice what you're paying for and you do research about it and understand why they're charging you for that item. The clinic, counseling, and the shuttle (UNF bus) is free on-campus so long as you're registered for classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Be actively involved in Res-Life or some other form of interaction with people and you will love this college even more. Research your professors before the class and you're more likely to get a better educator.

Great for these types of students

Average students will do well as well as hard-working students. Lazy students won't do well because as the years pass and the classes get higher levels, you will not be able to keep up.

    Am learning a lot

I'm a psych major at UNF in my 3rd year and I love it here. Class sizes are very small. Most of mine have been around 50 students, but the largest classes are only about 180, which is small compared to schools such as UF or UCF where classes can reach up to 300 or 400 students. Professors are great too. Just like any other school, there are a few that should be avoided. However, for the most part they're great. Friendly, enthusiastic and helpful.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is great. It's on a nature preserve and it's gorgeous. It's also a much smaller campus than most, and you can get almost anywhere on campus in 10 minutes or less. Also, if it rains, which it most likely will a lot because it's Florida, most paths to and from buildings are covered.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is not as expensive as most colleges. There are quit a few scholarship opportunities also. When weighing all of the pros and cons with the amount of money it costs to go to school, I'd like to say that it's well worth the money.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. There are sooo many clubs and things to get involved in and volunteer with. Not only is it a great way to meet people and make friends, but it looks great when applying for scholarships and grad school, and also for job applications. Also, don't party too hard. It's ok to party and go out with friends, but don't let it get the best of your studying.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who loves sports other than football (sorry, no football team- yet). People who are serious with wanting to learn. It's not exactly the greatest school ever, not the hardest.. but if you really want to learn things then it's great because of the class sizes and quality of teaching.

This school is good for students who are ready for a University, but not quite ready for a huge University. I was excited to be moving up in school, but I was very glad that I did not have to deal with the college town part of it. Even though I am now ready to get involved in a larger school, when I was first starting out I loved that it was just the right size.

I learn a lot from my professors because they are doing work in the field. A lot of my professors are doing research and me as a student get to participate. I am a psychology student and each semester for extra credit I get to participate in psychological research. It is really exciting to see what kind of things I have to look forward to as a psychologist.

I am involved in so many things here at UNF. I am a member of a fraternity, the manager of the UNF men's soccer team and a student ambassador. I have so much fun being involved here it is big enough for you to meet new people, but small enough for you not to get lost. at about 16,500 students it is the perfect size for me. Also there is so much to do on campus from the nature center where you can rent canoes, kayaks, and camping equipment for free to osprey productions who puts on concerts such as Ludacris, B.O.B., Reel Big Fish, This place is phenomenal.

    Bang for the buck

This school was rated in the top 25 of the Princeton review in education for your dollar with one of the best business colleges in the nation this school gives you a lot for a little it really is a magnificent school. A lot of stuff is free which is nice the ITS is free so if you get a virus on your laptop they fix it for free the concerts are free the sporting events are free the renting of camping equipment is free and its less than ten minutes from the beach. This school is great.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you get yourself involved in something on campus and learn time management. In college your parents are not holding your hands and the schedule is not as strict as in high school you have a lot more responsibility and time to do what you want. You must just learn how to manage your time and get everything done in a timely manner not a very difficult skill, but still something that everyone needs to learn.

Great for these types of students

Great for anyone who is interested in learning or just relaxing the feel around the school is very relaxed. We are ten minutes from the beach and less than a mile from a large outdoor mall. This is a school you must come and take a tour of and see for yourself the scenery is beautiful and expanding really something worth looking at.

My first year at UNF was great! It was an adjustment learning the campus, learning to be responsible for myself, etc. UNF does offer a lot of support and the UNF ACE (Academic Center) offers tutoring, workshops, and everything you need to make sure that you stay on track academically.

    Am enjoying being here

I really enjoyed my freshman year at UNF, there is so much to do on campus; they have all kinds of activities and there always seem to be something fun going on on campus. The campus itself is located right near the St. John's Townscenter so you are literally 2 minutes away from all kinds of stores, restaurants, etc. too! The gym is great; I work out everyday and the indoor pool is a nice way to get in some extra cardio!

    Bang for the buck

Considering the cost of college is going up again this year I would say you really get the most for your money at UNF; the class sizes are small, the campus is small enough that you don't feel overwhelmed and yet big enough where you do get that university feeling! Also, the campus is actually on a protected preserve so the atmosphere is very relaxed and natural. I looked at several other Florida schools but UNF really is fantastic!

    Tips for prospective students

Go to a an open house; it is worth the look and once you tour the campus you will really be able to see first hand all that UNF has to offer. My Mom arranged for me to go to the open house and honestly I wasn't really even interested in UNF but once I took a look around I was hooked! Utilize the UNF website! They really have a lot of good info available. Apply early!

Great for these types of students

If you are looking for a school that offers a relaxed, fun, and academically challenging atmosphere that is focused on the individual student UNF is a school you should take a look at. I have a learning disability as well as a physical disability (hearing loss) and I was very intimidated by some of the Florida schools I visited; their class size, the way their tutoring sites were set up, the fact that things were geared more toward the student body as opposed to the individual student. UNF really focuses on the individual student.

I have heard some past students here give praise about this school saying it's really good. My sister is also attending and she is learning a lot.

    Will enjoy being here

It's not exactly where I wanted to be but it's a start.

    Bang for the buck

As far as the total cost goes, if your living off campus it's the same price as other univeristies if you live off campus. However, the housing here cost more than at UF.

    Tips for prospective students

Research everything. Don't accept a school because you like the way it looks. Check out the quality of teaching and housing.

    Am learning a lot

As a student you learn a lot about any subject you are studying and you also learn a lot about yourself and other people.

    Am enjoying being here

There is something for everyone at UNF. There are over 150 clubs and if they do not have what you want you can start your own club, and the Student Government is more than happy to help with funds. The campus is beautiful so being outside is wonderful, especially on The Green or by one of the lakes. With the small size of the campus you are not lost in the crowd like at larger universities. Jacksonville is a beautiful city, go explore it just be careful not to get too lost.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is about the same as any other public college in the state. Again the small campus makes your money more worth it because students can get more one on one attention. I can personally say the financial aid department is A-mazing! Before going to UNF I could not get the pell grant or any other aid I did not apply for myself. The staff is very nice and will work with you on getting aid or a low interest loan.

    Tips for prospective students

Go on a campus tour, during the school day if possible. Get involved on campus. I know for many people it is difficult if you are shy. Trust me I am one of those people but getting involved in a club, or Greek organization will make your college experience so much better than you could imagine. Make sure you study hard and focus. Make friends and have fun but do not let it interfere with getting your degree. When at any school lock your doors, it is sad how many people do not lock their doors and are surprised when something is missing.

Great for these types of students

Any student can thrive at UNF.
