I will be a senior this at the beginning of the 2010-2011 academic year, and couldn't be happier with the college I chose! the classes are tough, obviously, but its so worth it. I am a chemistry major and mathematics minor, and i don't need to go to some big expensive private school to learn alot, I'm getting it done right here!

    Am enjoying being here

This is the greatest state school in the Wisconsin system in my opinion. On top of the incredible academic prowess that it has, it is also quite a pretty school and surrounding area. The Mississippi River is 7 blocks from campus one way, and the beautiful bluffs are 7 blocks the other way. There is so much to do that you could hardly call yourself bored, EVER! its great!

    Bang for the buck

As La Crosse is the 2nd highest applied to school in Wisconsin, behind only Madison, you would be surprised to know it is one of the cheapest. Its about 11,000 a year depending on what else your doping and meal plans, etc. But you sure get alot form this school! Well worth the money

    Tips for prospective students

Don't look at jsut the campus, but the areas and attractions surrounding the campus too! Look for what food there is around, and take a look at shopping needs too. The campus is always evolving, not only by construction but the students themselves too, this place is great!

Great for these types of students

This school is great for everyone! Especially people looking into any kind of education, physical therapy, athletic training, and physical education!

The classes are challenging. It is more difficult than high school, but I would assume that most colleges are. Most class sizes are relatively small. My chemistry lab had only 18 students in it! The teachers are very helpful and want you to do well. They provide office hours, information about tutors, and are willing to meet with you if you need help. When I talk to students who are older than me, I can tell how much they have learned in the previous years at La Crosse. I know that I can accumulate much more knowledge throughout the years I will be here.

    Am enjoying being here

It is the perfect size school for me. It has about 10,000 students: not too small, not too big. The campus is small enough to walk end to end in 10 minutes. I am on the gymnastics team here and I love it! It's a great group of girls. The campus is very active. The Recreation Center is always busy and there are a lot of sports and Intramurals to get involved in. As soon as it gets warm out, people are doing things outside. The nature is beautiful. It is very common for students to hike the bluffs on the weekends for fun to see the beautiful view. Students can rent roller blades and take a trail by the marsh for recreation. There's always something to do or get involved in at La Crosse

    Bang for the buck

It can be a little expensive if you are out-of-state, but if you are from Wisconsin or Minnesota it is well worth the money. Even for out-of-state tuition, it is worth the cost.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for housing early because there is a little shortage of dorm space until the new dorms are built. If you apply late you may end up with an extra person in your room. It isn't that bad if you end up in overflow housing though. I lived with it all first semester and it really isn't that bad. Plus you meet more people this way!

Great for these types of students

It is great for active students and people who like a relatively small classes.

UW-La Crosse has a very diverse educational staff that always caters to our student's needs. The class sizes are generally no larger than 20, which allows for professors to provide excellent individual help. All my professors thus far have been extremely knowledgeable in their respective subjects, and are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure students are understanding the material.

    Am enjoying being here

Campus life is simply amazing. It's fairly small; about a 10 minute walk across. There is a huge variety of extracurricular and intramural activities available, and the food is way better than you're probably used to from high school. If you're into exercise, there's an excellent rec center with rock climbing, basketball, weight lifting, a track, and a variety of classes to take.

In addition, the area outside of campus is one of the finest you'll find. The bluffs and surrounding area are perfect for nature lovers and those that are interested in an outdoor thrill, and the downtown scene is the best in Wisconsin by far.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition here is only around 11 grand, which is extremely affordable considering it competes for the number one state school in Wisconsin year after year. Meal plans and dorms are cheap, and the off-campus living is very cost-effective as well.

    Tips for prospective students

These are the best four years of your life, so have a good time, but don't forget that you're most likely coming here for an education. UW-L is a ton of fun, but have a battle plan on how to balance your social life with your priorities in college.

Great for these types of students

UW-L is great for any student who is looking for a good education and a good time. I don't know anyone that wouldn't fit into one of those categories, so most likely UW-L will be a great fit for you. If you're into sports and exercise, don't forget that athletics is very highly touted here, and for the past few years we have been in the top 10 most fit schools in the country. For the outdoor types, there's tons to do in the bluffs surrounding the campus, and if you're into partying, our downtown has more bars per capita than anywhere in the country (always a plus, but don't let that be your deciding factor!).

I feel like I've learned more in all of high school in just my first semester at UW-La Crosse! The teachers I've had are great and seem to actually care about what they teach and that the students understand. I'm currently a freshman at UWL and I love it.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere at LAX is great from what I've experienced. I'm in a all freshman dorm, which not all schools offer, but I think it's an excellent way to meet fellow students that are your own age and have similar interests and goals. I've met a ton of people so far and I love how friendly most people are!

    Bang for the buck

I feel like LAX is just as good as any other school, if not better, and it's much more affordable than any private school.

    Tips for prospective students

La Crosse is a great school for anybody looking to further their education and have a great experience while doing so.

Great for these types of students

La Crosse is a great school for any student that wants to learn new things both education and social wise.

    Am learning a lot

As a freshman, I've only experienced a semester's worth of courses. That being said, the classes (mostly gen. eds) that I've experienced so far have been interesting, challenging, and well-worth my time. Although it definitely has been an adjustment-- every professor has a different style of teaching and some are definitely tougher than others. Definitely more challenging than high school.

    Am enjoying being here

I feel like my friends are definitely having a better time here than I am. It might be because so many people here are interested in the pre-PA program and in the medical field or because so many people at UW-L are athletes. My experience mostly consists of doing my course-work and being involved with organizations related to my major-- not necessarily as fun as I had hoped.

    Bang for the buck

It's definitely worth what your paying. Cheaper and smaller than a Big 10 school, but it definitely gives you a liberal arts-feel.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! And go meet people right away, rather than chatting with your friends on Facebook all the time. Also, try to get along with your roommate, even if their interests are way different than yours. But don't expect your roommate to be your new best friend (unless you're already roomming with a friend). I tried-- but my roommate didn't like me as much as I thought and we ended up switching rooms (it turned out better that way, though, because I ended up rooming with a friend). Oh, and you will spend a lot of money at Kwik Trip and Wal-Mart buying food for yourself. Campus food is good, but you'll get sick of it (and Whitney Center!) after awhile.

Great for these types of students

Students who intend to be teachers, doctors/nurses/physician's assistants, students with varied interests in social sciences and science. Athletes (although we're Division III, rec sports and intramurals are still super-popular).

I have been learning tons of new and useful things, not only school related but also about everyday life. I had the ability to pick my schedule and even arrange my classes the way I wanted to. It can be hard at points but what isn't?

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is so nice and easy to get around. It isn't to big and it has a great atmosphere when your here. I am in an all freshman hall this year and there has been so many cool and fun activities to get you more involved and make friends.

    Bang for the buck

When I chose La Crosse I knew I would get a great education. The room and board has been what I expected and even more. The money that comes in from us has been used to improve our learning and even get us some cool new things. My friend recently won a new ipod touch and there are so many opportunities to win and get other cool things. So I would have to say the money we put in is given back.

    Tips for prospective students

If your looking into La Crosse, come visit because once your here and experience it yourself you will definitely know it is right for you.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for every type of student. They are very diverse and welcomes everyone. It's an overall friendly place to learn and live.

The past years in La Crosse have been awesome thanks to UWL. The campus and city community is extremely inviting and supportive so much that you never really feel away from home. As a student, the classes can be challenging but there is never a feeling of being alone; the professors are extremely helpful and the support on campus is there for the taking.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students don't need to be worried about planning out their entire four years from the get go. La Crosse has so many different programs that are successful its best to come in with an open mind and explore what you're really interested in. Tuition is affordable enough that if you have to spend an extra semester because you changed majors or studied abroad, it's not going to hit the piggy bank too hard; take your time and enjoy learning while you can.

    Academic Rigor

Being a science major is definitely a challenge at UWL, especially when juggling more than one difficult course. That is, however, what makes you a better student. A lot of the professors really try and get you to think critically rather than straight memorize facts, and that is the type of rigor that is important in making you a real rounded graduate.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is required of non-communter freshmen students at UWL but definitely not an opportunity you want to miss out on. Sharing a room with strangers can be awkward at first but the dorm life tends to be a lot of the memories you look back on while in college. At La Crosse, the resident assistants are awesome at coordinating and making you feel comfortable.

    Food and Dining

On campus at UWL the food is all right depending on how picky you are. One thing the main dining hall is good at is providing a lot of different options for its diners and even has some cook stations for you to whip up your own food.

    What to do for fun

La Crosse has a lot of different activities for students, many of which are in walking distance. Downtown La Crosse has plenty of shopping, an inexpensive movie theatre, riverside park on the Mississippi River, Pettibone beach for when its nice, and much more. Also, there are always a ton of on campus things going on and its not hard to miss since there are always posters advertising in almost every building on campus.

    Bang for the buck

UWL is a very affordable school that provides a variety of different classes, opportunities, and overall stellar education

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Oktoberfest is a huge celebration every October in the La Crosse community. There are plenty of festivities including a parade, fair grounds, competitions, pageants, and much more.

    Academic Rigor

It is very important that you study and stay on top of homework. There is a lot of homework and tests but everyone is very helpful and the teachers really prepare you. Hard but worth it.

    Bang for the buck

Great for these types of students

This school is great for anyone. We are also a international school so we welcome anyone fro any place around the world.

    Clubs and Activities

So many different types of clubs. There is nothing that you wont find an interest in. If there is not something you like it is very easy to form your own club.

    Greek Life

We don't have a lot of greek life. We have about 3 clubs maybe.

    Campus Safety

Campus police are located right on campus and make drives through the campus daily. There are also blue safety buttons placed around campus which you can push and a cop will come if you feel unsafe.

    Will learn a lot

I expect that I will learn a lot. The academics here are only slightly behind the flagstaff school of the state (Madison). But don't let that be the only thing that makes you choose here. It is all about what the student puts into their education. And everyone on campus is striving to do their best.

    Will enjoy being here

The area is absolutely beautiful and everyone is so involved. I am looking forward to excursions to the bluffs and activities on the Mississippi. People on campus are really friendly and there is lots to do through the actual college. They have a First Look programm for incoming students to get them involved with the area that includes hiking, kayaking and other adventures. Don't worry about a freshman 15, people actual lose weight here because everyone is so active.

    Bang for the buck

I expect that it will be well worth it. They have offered scholarships and other aide, but it is still more for out of state students.

    Tips for prospective students

Check it out! I am in love with the area and the size of campus as well as the academics. It is really about how you feel when you are there.

Great for these types of students

Anyone that wants a great big school education with a medium school feel to it. Students who are active and want to get involved and anyone looking to develop more as a person.

UW LaCrosse is a great school, especially if you are interested in science and health. The classes range in size, from small hands on classes to lecture halls, but no matter what size of class you are in, your professors are always willing to go above and beyond to help. We also have a great tutoring and writing center.

    Am enjoying being here

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get your money's worth at UW-LaCrosse. You will receive an amazing education for a great price. LaCrosse does a lot to make sure that their students are getting what they want and need to succeed. It is a great school and the price fits the experience you will get/

    Tips for prospective students

It is a great school with many opportunities for all with emphasis in the medical field. LaCrosse is also a beautiful area with a lot of outdoor activities available. The students are hard working and reflect the success of the school.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to keep up with the work. It is a lot different than high school. There is no one holding your had and telling you what to do on your free time. I find that job shadowing can be helpful as a reminder to why you're actually doing all this hard work in the first place.

    Academic Rigor

Of course, depending on your major, different classes have different levels of difficulty. Overall, LaCrosse strives for success and the students here work hard to achieve their goals.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is a great way to get integrated into the school. You meet many friends in the dorms, many who will be life-long.

    Food and Dining

The food is good. There are many options and locations for food. However, many still miss home cooking.

    What to do for fun

Hike, take classes at the rec center, rent outdoor equipment from the rec, play volleyball outside the dorms, join a club, get a group of people together and go to dinner

Best school for your price! Classes are challenging, but completely manageable and the teachers care a lot about your progress and that you are getting your moneys worth. Not only are the classes great, but it would be hard to find a better social scene than here at La Crosse.

    Tips for prospective students

La Crosse is a great environment for everyone. There's something for everyone here from the great nature scene to numerous clubs to get involved with. I can't imagine being anywhere else. La Crosse is an AMAZING school and I am so thankful I chose to come here I have no negatives to say about it!

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be challenging at times, but there's so many resources to utilize to get all the help you need. The tutors are great and have helped me so much in my science classes. The general education courses can get frustrating at times because they seem pointless, but I've actually learned a lot from them and it's a nice way to change up your course material so you don't get overwhelmed.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great. It gets annoying having the follow the rules, but it's very easy to adapt to and the RA's are all great. I lived in an all freshman dorm this year which was nice because everyone was in the same boat and was incredibly friendly. I made some of my closest friends from living in the dorms.

    Food and Dining

The food at the cafeteria isn't the greatest, but there's so many other places to eat on campus that have great food. If you're creative at the cafeteria it can be good, but most of the time I have no patience to make my own food and I just want what's already ready. Be careful of what you're eating because it can be easy to fall into the freshman fifteen.

    What to do for fun

There's so many things to do for fun! The night life here on the weekends is great and better than pretty much any other school you will go to. The dorms are always doing activities on the weekends to keep you busy. There's never a reason to be bored here with everything La Crosse has to offer. Be sure to go on a bluff hike at least once while you're here!

    Bang for the buck

It's difficult to find a better school for such a cheap price. The academics here are one of the best next to Madison and yet the tuition is so much cheaper. Definitely one of the most affordable colleges you could go to and it's worth every penny!

Great for these types of students

La Crosse is great for everyone! There's something for everyone here!

    Clubs and Activities

Play on an intramural team it's one of best things you will do while you're here. Plus if you win your bracket you get a sweet t shirt that everyone will be jealous of.

    Campus Safety

It's small and compact making it an incredibly safe. There's campus police that are patrolling all the time making sure that it's a safe environment for everyone here.

    Tips for prospective students

Your experience at this school depends on what you're looking for, if you're looking to have College Game Day come to your campus, transfer to one of the Big 10 schools nearby.

    Academic Rigor

I don't find it too hard. I generally put in the same effort as high school and actually got better grades.

    Dorm Life

Maybe it was just my dorm (Angell) but I didn't find it too fun. Try to avoid the dorms with cube set up, it makes it hard to meet people who aren't in the next room over.

    Food and Dining

Depends on where you eat, I stay away from the Whitney complex as much as I can and I'm satisfied. We are getting new food next year.

    What to do for fun

If you like the outdoors you'll like it here. Most people watch the Badgers rather than UWL football/basketball games (If you go here you'll see why). Intramural sports are fun and there are plenty of chances to get involved with those.

Great for these types of students

If you're in the health/science fields. Other than that, possibly look somewhere else.

    Campus Safety

Very safe. Campus police/ La Crosse police don't have much to do so they disrupt a lot of parties...

UW-La Crosse has a wonderfully diverse campus! There are several different things to study with great professors to help you along the way. It is also a great campus for being active; there is always something going on to help you stay in shape!

    Tips for prospective students

-Keep up the hard work in high school, it will pay off!
-Take AP classes or college credits to help you get ahead (not required--but helpful)
-Find a roommate on the UWL facebook finder. It's an easy and safe way to find your potential roomie.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are difficult and some are pretty basic. It all depends on how clear your professor is and how much time and effort you put into each class.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms is great! There are several different dorms to choose from: Laux, Sanford, White, Coate, Angel, Wentz, Hutchinson, Eagle, and Reuter. Some are just for freshman and some are based off of academics. Very easy system to apply to and once you're living in the dorms everyone is very friendly and you can make great friends with your neighbors. The Residence Assistants and Hall Directors are very involved and want to make dorm life one of the best experiences for you.

    Food and Dining

There are two major buildings that serve food: Cartwright Center and Whitney. Cartwright has two food venues opened from breakfast-dinner serving; one on the first floor and one in the basement. Whitney has four food center: A buffet style, a sub shop, express lane, and an additional restaurant. The food is pretty good; it varies some of the time. Mass produced food can sometimes be hard to please others but it isn't a breaking factor here! Currently, UWL is changing the food vendor so next year it will be different than what it is now.

    What to do for fun

Residence Halls and the Recreational Center are always hosting events and activities for people to participate in. There are always things to do! Lots of people take advantage of the bluffs in the area and often times go on hikes, nature walks, bike rides, rollerblading, long boarding, etc.

Great for these types of students

UWL is very accommodating for students who chose to come here from other countries; we have lots of students studying abroad. UWL has a great Health and Science program. There are also lots of students enrolled in the College of Liberal Studies and Education.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a wide variety of clubs for students to join. They fill all ethnicity, races, gender, interests and hobbies.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is not an important aspect on the UWL campus. There are only a few Sororities and Fraternities associated with campus.

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe here on campus. There is a campus police station and there is the blue light emergency system all over campus. The campus is also very well lit so at night time it is not very threatening. UWL is also located in a nice area with a zero threatening environment.

UWL was a great school in promoting educational and personal growth. It also encouraged multicultural diversity and understanding amongst the student population. The atmosphere was great for both academics and fun.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors - they will be key factors in your success. Class sizes can vary anywhere from 15-50 students depending on the class, so make sure you chat with your professor from time to time! This is helpful if you forget an assignment or need to make up an exam for some reason or another.

    Academic Rigor

UWL is pretty demanding, academically speaking. However, as much as the professors expect from you, they give back in their teaching. The learning atmosphere is also fairly laidback, which is a unique and interesting phenomena.

    Dorm Life

I loved my dorm experience! Granted, I had a terrible first year thanks to some obnoxious roomies, but my last years were quite enjoyable. It all depends on who you choose and where you choose to live. Do some research and make smart choices. If you want to get some studying done, the party dorm probably isn't the best bet.

    Food and Dining

I am a vegetarian so I was a bit worried about the food UWL would have to offer. Even though some of the dishes were not too veggie friendly, the dining services ALWAYS had something I could eat!! I loved their variety of hot, fresh meals that were interesting. In the mornings they had an omelette bar where a chef would make omelettes to order and in the evenings they had a bar where you could make your own stirfry. I also loved the fact that they were open so many hours during the day ~ and that they were spread all over campus.

    What to do for fun

Student Life was always hosting some kind of event ~ or knew of one they could point you to. Downtown La Crosse was just a 10 minute walk from campus, too, so it was pretty easy to catch a movie, go to the river, get a drink, etc. LAX is also on the bus line, so you can travel to the next town in a matter of minutes. Make sure you check out The Riv!!

    Bang for the buck

There is always an event going on. Look online, listen to the gossip, and make sure to check the UWLAX webpage! Definately catch a football game or two. It is worth the cold. =)

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Being from Missouri, I really had no idea what Oktoberfest was. Oktoberfest is huge in La Crosse. The whole town pretty much shuts down for about 3 days and turns in to a giant celebration. Check it out ~ but go with a group of friends!

Great for these types of students

It is a good school for anyone. You just need to find the kind of people you feel comfortable spending time with. There are groups of people out there for everyone.

    Clubs and Activities

    There is such a variety!!

    Campus Safety

Campus Police were on duty 24/7. What I really liked about this was that there was a number you could dial after 9pm and someone would come escort you back to your dorm. I never felt uncomfortable walking across campus.

I would have to rate UWL a 4 out of 5. The reason I gave it a four is because the food here is not the greatest; however, they do try to bring in receipes from home. The teachers are great, but some are hard to learn from.

    Tips for prospective students

A tip for a prospective student is to come in ready to work hard. Teachers expect you to follow them no matter what pace they may go. Having fun and making friends is key to how happy you will be here.

    Academic Rigor

I gave it a 4 out of 5 because some classes are different than others. Your harder classes are going to give a student more to do, but an appreciation class won't.

    Dorm Life

Meeting friends is great, but the showers are gross.

    Food and Dining

Some places are good and some are not. It is definately not like home cooked meals.

    What to do for fun

The halls usually set up a game night or a talent show. There is always someone playing volleyball on the outside courts, and the recreation center is packed with things to do. People can rent movies from different halls if they want.

    Bang for the buck

    I think so.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of different organizations like club volleyball and hockey, intramural basketball, volleyball, soccer, floor hockey, futsal, flag football..etc.

    Greek Life

Not a huge thing on campus (not what you expect from the movies).

    Campus Safety

I haven't heard of anything deathly yet. Campus police are sometimes roam around to make sure things are safe.

the university of wisconsin - la crosse is a great school to attend. the class sizes small, therefore allowing a lot of teacher-student relationships and the campus is decently sized- everything is in about a ten minute walk. the only downside to uwl is the city of la crosse since there really isn't much to do here!

    Tips for prospective students

get out and involved in many things- intermural sports, organizations, and clubs! also, take advantage of all the resources offered here on campus.

    Academic Rigor

the classes are fairly challenging, but if you spend the time studying, you will do fine.

    Dorm Life

i wish we did more as a dorm and were able to get to know people more, but i am really happy in the dorm that i'm in.

    Food and Dining

a new addition this year to the cafeteria is healthy food- whole wheat bread, pasta, and a new variety of options in the salad bar. the food is ok; nothing special, though. i really wish there were more options for dining here at la crosse.

    What to do for fun

hiking the bluffs is always fun, and the campus always has events to go to such as movie night, comedians, bands... la crosse is also a very active community, so there are trails for hiking, biking, and running everywhere.

    Bang for the buck

la crosse is a very reasonably priced school, and you definitely get your money's worth in education and services offered.

Great for these types of students

la crosse is great for students looking for a good education, but not looking for being in a big city. la crosse is not too big, but not too small, which a lot of students coming from small towns enjoy. also, there are so many opportunities for physical activity, so la crosse is great for those looking to be physically active while at school.

    Clubs and Activities

lots of activities are offered here, you just have to look for them!

    Greek Life

greek life really isn't all that popular here at la crosse. i'm not even sure how many fraternities and sororities there are here.

    Campus Safety

there are constantly police driving around the campus, and stations to go around the campus in case of an emergency.

    Am learning a lot

I love this school and have just finished my first semester. I fell like the semester went really nicely. You have great classes and even greater teachers. Yes there are classes that are hard but others that are really fun. Most importantly the teachers are amazing they are always there to help you whenever you need it. They really want you succeed.

    Am enjoying being here

I absoultly love the campus! It's so beautiful and the bluffs are amazing. The campus is in a nice location, its in the middle of town and a walking distance to the river and the bluffs, and only a short bus ride (which is free with tuition) to the mall, target, and a movie theatre. The campus it's self is perfect size. Its smaller and only takes 5 minutes to walk across campus. It really is a great place to live.

    Bang for the buck

I am originally from Minnesota and the Wisconsin schools are so much cheaper! not to mention not having to buy your books! Instead we rent them so you're saving hundreds of dollars a semester just off of that! This is a really well priced school.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep your minds open to all colleges. Honestly La Crosse was the last college of my choice ( i couldn't tell you why) but i ended up going here because the program fit the best and now i absolutely love it! If you do come here there are two things to keep in mind; you will need to bring a pair of rain boots! when it rains some parts of the campus floods but i think its fun jumping in water! and make sure that your backpack is NOT black. At lunchtime you will never be able to find your bag in the sea of backpacks!

Great for these types of students

Well i can only say something for my field which is Musical Theatre. La Crosse is one of the top 3 schools in Wisconsin for Theatre and it really is amazing the teachers are so much fun and there's so many talented people. For other people i hear a lot of people who are Biology Majors, Education Majors, and PT Majors.

    Am learning a lot

I am definitely learning a lot however, I am learning so much and becoming so involved in the Residence Life that I am not succeeding in my classes as much as I'd hope. However, we have some very well educated professors who have a strong passion for their subject they teach and an inspiring attitude to teach it to the students.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful and a perfect fit for me. I love that I can make it all the way across campus in about ten minutes. The residence life is also amazing and does a wonderful job of offering involvement and leadership opportunities as well as chances to meet new people, especially throughout the residence halls. Not to mention that the community is a very comforting and safe place to be at all hours of the day. The citizens of the La Crosse area are very willing to help the college students as well.

    Bang for the buck

As the years come, the price for tuition and the expenses are slightly increasing. However, it is a great price to pay for the spectacular education that is being offered and received.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to apply yourself to your classes. Don't take more than you can handle and be aware the things you get yourself involved in and the extracurricular activities you partake in. Your grades will start to slack if you don't balance your time. The campus offers many opportunities to get help such as the FREE tutors, academic and testing center, the writing center and all of the professors have office hours and encourage students to come and talk to them. They're willing to help.

Great for these types of students

Students who like small class sizes (max 80), a small and easy to access campus, and a great college town. They're are many chances to get involved on and off campus and a bunch of opportunities to succeed.

    Am learning a lot

All of my classes have had important, relevant information to teach me. More than that, I'm learning to find how I fit into the community here and how to have a voice for myself. I have been learning about coursework, other people, myself, and my community.

    Am enjoying being here

The area can get a little too rowdy sometimes but for the most part I really do enjoy my time here. I have found people that I love to be around and fun activities to be doing in my free time. I also feel like my time is being put to good use as everything I'm learning is going to be helpful at some time in my life.

    Bang for the buck

UW-L is reasonably priced and as I've said above, the courses are relevant. There is almost no information that you will learn in class thinking when am I ever going to use that? The teachers also quite obviously care about how their students are doing and are more than willing to help students understand concepts better.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a way to get active in the community. Find a club you're interested in joining or a sport you want to either continue playing or learn to play.

Great for these types of students

I would say that UW-L is great for students of all sorts. It does place a strong emphasis on the sciences but I know plenty of people here who do not like science courses and are loving La Crosse. Most students here are athletic, active in the community, and pretty laid-back. Some individuals are social butterflies to the extreme while others are extreme introverts so how social you may or may not be does not make much of a difference.

The courses are challenging but never overwhelming. Professors are easy to talk to and willing to help. We have great academic resources like a writing center and tutors in almost every subject you can imagine.

    Am enjoying being here

La Crosse is an all-around great city. We have the beautiful bluffs in one direction and the Mississippi River on the other. There is never a weekend when something isn't going on. There is always a festival to attend or something to volunteer at. While living in the residence halls there is never a dull moment, and the staff are always finding ways to get everyone involved.

    Bang for the buck

For the price you pay you will get a great education. UW La Crosse has won multiple awards for being a top school and has nationally known programs. My professors are always telling me that there are businesses that look for graduates specifically from UWL.

    Tips for prospective students

When looking at a school, look for majors that interest you, but also look at the clubs you might be interested in. This might be where you find what you really want to do for the rest of your life. I have made my best friends by getting involved on campus.

Great for these types of students

UW La Crosse is great for anyone interested in the sciences or health careers. It's a very active school, so it's good for athletes and outdoorsy people.

I am currently a Junior at UWL and I am loving it. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to study, but the Gen Eds and the endless options really helped. Now that I have found a field I love, I am learning new things everyday and loving my new found knowledge.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful and feels slightly removed from the rest of the city. Despite this, I have discovered that La Crosse is an amazing town with something for everyone. There are bluffs and nature trails to hike for people who enjoy the outdoors and an eclectic downtown scene as well.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend living in a First Year Experience dorm. Its a great way to meet people and get to know campus. It all seems really overwhelming at first, but being overwhelmed forced me to get out of my comfort zone and I don't regret that at all. Also, don't be afraid to change majors or be undeclared for awhile. You may stumble upon a field of study that you will end up loving.

This campus has a variety of classes to choose from that will enrich your life. You can take any courses from learning about human differences, learning how to snowboard, to learning about biochemistry. My college professors challenge me to not only learn to solve the problem, but to think critically and make my own solutions.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love living in La Crosse! It is the most beautiful campus that I have been to. It is a close knit campus that is within walking distance to the downtown life to the nature life. It's the best of both worlds at this campus.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive, but at La Crosse, you get more bang for your buck. This college puts most of the tuition, room and board money back into enriching the student's lives on campus. Not every campus does this! Many residence hall programs and all campus events are partially funded by the room and board cost.

    Tips for prospective students

Come with an open mind. This college experience will change you in a positive manner. Especially with this campus, having so much you can do, don't be afraid to try something new. Also, be nice to everyone. The more friends you make, the more connections you make, the easier (and more fun) your experience will be!

So far I have learned a lot at UWL. I have had mostly great professors there have only been 2 that I really have not liked. The teachers do a good job of helping you but you have to put forth the effort for them to want to help you.

UWL is a an awesome college. It has unbelievable athletics that win D3 national championships yearly, it has awesome scenery and outdoor recreation and everyone is super friendly. You can get involved in any type of intramural activity you want or you can just find a pick up game to join in. If you love being active UWL is the choice for you.

    Bang for the buck

UWL is the second hardest UW school to get into and it is pretty reasonably priced. Living on campus I think it is about 12,000 a year which is pretty cheap compared to a lot of other schools.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early. Take advantage of freshman orientation especially the special program called First Flight which is an adventure program a week before school starts that is tons of fun and allows you to meet a lot of new people before school starts. Don't room with your best friend from high school, get out there and find some new friends but don't think you have to cut all ties there is nothing wrong with still being really good friends. The thing is to not do it right away this allows you to meet more people right at the start.
