Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The best part about this school is that you learn a lot here. The professors here are amazing in helping you with your work. They know your name and your not just a number. They know what your good at and exactly what you need help in. Not only academics but also the faculty, staff, and even workstudies are so helpful when it comes to your needs. If at anytime you feel that you need help from someone else besides the professors we have a learning assistance center on campus that is available to student in need of tutoring weather it be math science or even music. There is someone there for every subject. Not once did i ever come out disappointed.
Am enjoying being here I love being at the school! The school has a very friendly enviornment and everyone is very nice. I love the fact that it is a small school because im not a big fan of driving to my class or getting lost as well. Here you park once and thats it everything else is walking distance buildings are all close together. which is great for people who are like me. Also the students and staff/faculty always let you know about upcoming events which happens alot during the year from dances, fundraisers, haunted houses and volunteer work.
Tips for prospective students My main tip That I give to students who are intrested in coming here is to live on campus. I live 15 min away fromt he school and I live on campus! Its much more convienient to live her plus you become more involved when you do so. Another tip is to become more involved at first i was scared to but being on the dance team has helped me with school stress and my health. Because in a way it forces you to pass your classes. Plus you learn how to manage your time.
Great for these types of students This school is great for anyone who likes the warm feeling and likes things close and in the palm of their hand.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Overall the University is great, because it is smaller more people get involved so it is welcoming. Academically it is great, a student receives an education they should be proud of. Anyone would be happy with this amazing school.
Tips for prospective students When going to this school make sure you are financially stable because it can get a tad bit expensive with books and other fees. Also have good study habits since managing school and a social life can start to drain you quickly.
Academic Rigor The classes are tough, but that means and education you can boast about. The nursing school is a great, prestigious program as well as other programs within the University.
Dorm Life You are of course assigned a resident assistant to your floor. the role of this person is to help you with issues in your dorm as well as school. they have to make events so people on their floor will have a good time and interact with each other. A great way to make friends and connection is to live on campus.
Food and Dining The food is a little overpriced for the quality it is at and the Cafe is closed on holidays so it is difficult to eat sometimes.
What to do for fun There are a plethora of organizations on campus and ways to get involved. We do have our own sports teams and even inter-murals for people to compete in. Everyday there is something to do and San Antonio does offer it's own nightlife also.
Bang for the buck The school is a little too pricey but if you can afford it go because you will enjoy every minute, even the I just want to give up on trying to fit all this information in my head moments.
Clubs and Activities We do have a Campus Activities Board to have events for people going to Incarnate every semester and every educational department has a club you can join.
Greek Life Greek life is amazing, with four soroities and three, soon to be four, fraturnities there is a great diversity. all of the greeks are incredibly active and love to get there letters out.
Campus Safety The small private University tucked away on the edge of Alamo Heights, an affluent neighborhood in San Antonio, could not get more safe. Some students like to be trouble makers but the campus police and the RAs are there to help any time.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I admire how UIW staff isn't seen as the typical old college professors but adults that understand what students are going through and try their best to help us all succeed.
Am enjoying being here Any student can say UIW's students are like one big family, campus life is always live and never has any bad reputations to say about it.
Bang for the buck I appreciate how much money UIW helps me save, I pay about half my full tuition price here. As long as you meet Financial Aid half way they are always willing to help.
Tips for prospective students This is a great educational environment to be and live in. School is very involved in sports and students lives to make it enjoyable and spirit is always increasing.
Great for these types of students Good for students who like a small campus and love being able to connect with their religion on campus.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here are definitely knowledgeable and are always happy to help you understand anything you might not. The small class sizes also contribute to how much individual attention you get from your professors, both inside and outside class. Even in the core classes that everyone has to pass to graduate, the classes are no larger than twenty-five students. I feel incredibly intellectually stimulated!
Am enjoying being here I enjoy the academic aspect of this school, however, being an atheist at a Catholic school is not easy. While UIW is generally much more liberal and accepting of viewpoints and ideas that conflict with Catholicism or Christianity than schools like University of Dallas, or Houston Baptist University, it can still be difficult to find a group of students who share your views if you are agnostic or atheist, or if some aspect of you conflicts with Catholicism or Christianity. There is, however, a small LGBTQIA support group on campus called StandOUT Alliance, and there will be a Students for Choice (pro-choice) club as well this coming semester. I am happy with the level of diversity and multiculturalism here, in regard to the student as well as faculty and staff populations.
Bang for the buck You pay slightly more than you would for a relatively popular state university because UIW is a private, but the small class sizes and quality of education are worth it. The number of resources available to students is also something that you pay for that is worth it, if you take advantage of the Wellness Center (equipped with exercise equipment) and the Learning Assistance Center (tutoring center).
I have only two complaints. I take issue with some of the practices of the administration. There is a fair amount of bureaucratic red tape that you will face, but I get the impression that most universities have this issue and that it is something you just have to deal with almost anywhere you decide to attend.
Lastly, I feel that I am charged too much for the food and snacks here. The snacks are overpriced, and the meal plan charges would be more reasonable if the cafeteria offered both healthy as well as comfort food options side by side on a more consistent basis. Sometimes I will walk into the cafeteria and don't see very many or even any healthy meal options, but you can more often than not find something healthy to eat. There is a small vegetarian section for those of you who don't eat meat, but it is not always stocked.Tips for prospective students If you need high levels of intellectual stimulation like I do, join the Honors Program. The classes are more challenging and intimate, and it looks marvelous on a resume.
Live on the main part of campus, even if your hometown is San Antonio. This allows you to focus more on your studies and is much more convenient. Commuters aren't allowed to park on main campus and have to park in a parking garage on the hill behind the football field, which forces them to walk or take the university shuttle down to the main part of campus. I have lived on campus, one semester on main campus and one semester in a dorm on the hill. The hill dorms cost much more and are not close to your classes. Live on main campus -- it's easier. If you do choose to live on the hill, though, you will still benefit. Some dorms on the hill offer private baths and are also newer and nicer but are more expensive. If you would like a compromise between the benefits of private bath as well as closeness to you classes, the on-campus apartments are probably for you.Great for these types of students Students who are Catholic or Christian, immensely interested in learning, who need individual attention, and who would prefer a learning community that is smaller and more intimate.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Yes, all my teachers are very helpful and always available to help me. My teachers have giving me their numbers and emails so that if i miss a certain thing in class, they can call me and email me the notes or PowerPoint's and i am able to send my homework to them as well.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus and the new friends i have made. i only wish to have lived on campus. It has a great community, that everyone can adapt to.
Bang for the buck Everything is the way it should be, they really help you out with tuition and financial aid. they work with you as much as you need the help.
Tips for prospective students Look for scholarships and get involved with the campus, it has great things to offer.
Great for these types of students Its a good small size campus, that has much to offer to everyone. it's not too big or too small, you get to know everyone and your teachers. its a great place with lots of opportunities.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Incarnate Word is a small private university that has many advantages of coming here. One the small classes and easy access to your professors. Each professor is more than glad to help you out. I wouldn't have made a better decision than to attend Incarnate Word!
Am enjoying being here I love the small campus of Incarnate Word University. It's almost as if you have a small family away from home. It's easy mobility even off campus, because we're in the middle of everything. It's so much fun and the Campus Activities Board has many events going on that you can't be bored!
Bang for the buck Although Incarnate Word is pricey, it's worth it! Everything you put in, you will get out. I am not so much worried about the tuition as much as I am about my education, and here it's a breeze with the great resources we have.
Tips for prospective students Some tips; Dont procrastinate...in high school we were able to get away with it, not anymore! Study, Study, Study...some professors don't allow make up test or even extra credit. Do it right the first time and you wont break a sweat!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This is the best valued school for being a private institution. I have very small class sizes where the professors know me by name. The professors are all genuine and want their students to succeed and there are various things on campus such as the LAC (learning assistance center) that have students who have excelled in classes that are willing to help you succeed too.
Am enjoying being here I love being away from home, as I am originally from Arkansas. There is alot to do on campus and in the city in general. It seems every week there are on campus activities ranging from making smores to pj parties showing movies to help students get away and relax.
Bang for the buck Incarnate Word is a very expensive school, I would not recommend it however to students who will not make use of their very expensive education.
Tips for prospective students Network!!! Go to the meetings for various clubs, even if you do not intend on joining. This is how you learn to meet alot of people. Join a sports team, teammates are like automatic family and really help you during your first year of college. Coaches also serve as mentors to give you much needed advice. Dont' be shy, ask questions and get to know classmates. You never know when the dork next to you will be your key to passing a class!
Great for these types of students Athletes and Nursing majors!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The University is more than I expected for my freshman year of college and it has given me an opportunity that I had dreamed of. It is a great university academically, which was my main concern, and it has lived up to my standards. The small classroom sizes are essential for learning and the professors are always there and available to help us as students no matter what the issue is.
Tips for prospective students When looking for the right university, look for the key points that will best fit your needs to be the most successful not only in the classroom but in the community and as an individual. When you first get to college, the best thing you can do for yourself is to get to know your professors; because the more they know you on a personal level as a student, the more understanding they can be of your needs and are more willing and able to help you be successful in their classroom. In the classroom taking notes can be very helpful in learning the information, it is not necessary but highly recommended. Do not let the the classroom be the only time you see your notes. If you take notes, it is important to look over them and study them outside the classroom for at least 2 hours per how many hours you are in the classroom per week. The best way to retain the information is to study it and apply it to your everyday life; easiest way I learned to remember things.
Academic Rigor The rigor of the academics is really all up to the professor as to how hard it will be for students; as well as how good of a student you are. It takes adjusting, but once you learn your professors and how their class works, you will be able to figure out how you will be successful in the class.
Dorm Life My freshman experience of dorm life was amazing. I was in a triple room on a all girls floor which made it that much easier and fun to meet and greet new people. The dorm life at the school is very comfortable for me and I always felt safe in my dorm. You are only able to enter the dorm with your id card and it is specific to each dorm; so your id card only works for your dorm and for some of the dorms, only your floor.
Food and Dining The food and dining experience was average for the university. There was variety of food, but I would have liked to see more. I love that we have Chick-Fil-A on our campus because that is my favorite. We are giving meal plans and based on your meal plan you are able to receive this many meals per week and that many points to spend per semester. But we also have local, walking distance eateries that we can go to if we want something other than campus food.
What to do for fun On campus for me, the fun was just being able to sit out in the circle and talk to friends and meet new people as students would get out of class. The school offers the rec center to go workout and play sports as well as swimming access to all students at the natatorium. We also have dances sometimes and are only 5 minutes from downtown, so that is always an option for off-campus activities as well as The Alamo Quarry Market which is a market with many different stores and eating options and a movie theater.
Bang for the buck Although the University is expensive, you are getting your moneys worth as long as you do your best as a student. I loved my experience here at the university and I definitely received my moneys worth and I wouldn't want to attend anywhere else. I loved all my professors because of how passionate they are about teaching and want to help their students succeed. Overall, the University is a great university to attend hear in San Antonio, Texas.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On campus, we have a cemetery and a nursing home and the blue hole which is the starting point of the San Antonio river.
Great for these types of students This University is great for students who enjoy more of the high school type classrooms, who want to able to communicate with their professors and want to have a name for themselves at the school. Yes it is a small campus, but it is what you are paying for and the benefits are greatly appreciated.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities that you can join on campus. There are many different clubs within each organization and the organizations consist of academic, athletic such as intramural sports, Greek, honors, multicultural, professional, service, special interest, university sponsored, and you are even able to create your own club with the proper requirements.
Campus Safety I felt moderately safe on campus. There is plenty of lighting at night if you decide to do walk anywhere and I have not encountered anything that has put me in danger. The gates on campus close at 11 during the week and 12 on weekends and the only way to proceed beyond the gate is with a student id or if you're visiting, for the student to call down to campus police and inform them that you are expecting a visitor and your guest will be let through with proper identification. The campus security is the San Antonio police department so it is very secure and they are always alert and are driving around to insure the campuses safety 24/7.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Incarnate Word is a smaller university with good class sizes. There are always plenty of activities happening on campus. However it is quite expensive and as is the case with most universities, I'm not sure my tuition is being spent in the wisest way.
Academic Rigor So far I haven't had any classes that were extremely challenging for me. However I do enjoy my classes and find my professors engaging.
Dorm Life I am in my first semester at Incarnate word and I am currently living in an apartment. Therefore I have nothing to say as far as dorms go.
Food and Dining Although there are plenty of places to eat and drink (yes they serve alcohol) on campus, I prefer to save money and eat at my apartment.
What to do for fun So far my highlight of the week is playing soccer with international student on Friday afternoons.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The best part about this school is that you learn a lot here. The professors here are amazing in helping you with your work and if you have problems with a subject theirs pass sections that would help you improve your grade and is free. The professors also know your name and they just don't add you to a list of students. They know when you have a problem and need help in something. The Adviser and programs like TRIO helps you a lot threw school specially when your first generation they guide you threw problems and answered questions. And for problems in a subject we have an awesome learning assistance center on campus that is available to students in need of tutoring in any subject even music class. I have attended to Pass section which is tutoring for science and i haven't been disappointed.
Am enjoying being here Something that you can enjoy like i have is the environment is really friendly and the students around you are so nice that if your lost anyone would like to help you out. Something that attract me to this school is the fact that it is a small school because i'm not a big fan of big classes were you can get distracted really easy and were you can get lost from one class to another. The buildings are so close that it takes a few minutes to walk from one class to another one. Also you get inform about upcoming events like dances, fundraisers, haunted houses and volunteer work in an email that you would receive as soon as you get accepted.
Bang for the buck To help you with the big bucks that you have to pay they give you scholarships that would help you pay the tuition. Scholarships are base on your grades but they also offer grands to help you out and in case you need a lone they can help you as well. They also have jobs in the campus so you can work to pay your tuition. The help is their you just need to look for it.
Tips for prospective students The main tip i give to prospective students is get involve in activities and organisations and the first year would be so much easier. That would give you the chance to get to know more students make more friends and get known by the faculty.
Great for these types of students This is a great school for students who like to feel the worm and love meeting new people. Also is great because the faculty is so great at helping you out. This is a small school were you can feel like you belong, anyone can be part of this family and you get a great experience.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The small classes allow for a more personal level between the professors and the students. This is important for me since I ask questions during or after class if I didn't understand the material.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoy the professors here and there's always some type of event or activity going on to engage the student body.
Bang for the buck The school is expensive, as I would imagine any other private institution. Nonetheless, the education you get here is worth the bucks.
Tips for prospective students Make sure the major(s) you intend to pursue are offered. You wouldn't want to switch schools as this is a private institution and it is a bit pricey.
Great for these types of students Liberal students and those who would like to study abroad because they have many many opportunities for this.
