    Am learning a lot

I am a 3+3 pre-dental student at the Pacific. Our school offers a great accelerated pre-health profession majors. I am working towards earning my BS in biology within three years. Because our school is small private college, all students work very closely with professors. They are willing to help and get to know all the students. They offer many chances for students to come for help or just to hang out with them. Undergraduates can work directly with professors in research and such. I am currently researching with my friends at one of our favorite biology professor. The atmosphere at research and classes are very warm and welcoming. The material that we learn is definitely not easy. Because our school is known for accelerated pre-health program, the professors demand and expect a high level of education and devotion from us. Unlike general education classes, science classes demand high level of understanding and knowledge. Exams are designed for us to think and utilize all the knowledge we learn from textbooks.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the welcoming and family like environment of this university. Because the school is small, students know each other very well. However, it doesn't mean we are limited to only meet people in same majors. I met people who are majoring in music and we made a jazz group, which is growing really fast. I feel very safe at the school. By the second year of college, you know everyone and the level of relationship that we share is deep. We are more than friends; we are a family. The school is ran by students and offers many opportunities for leadership. I am a part of professional fraternity and I already an elected board member for the next semester. The school is willing to support anyone interested in opening a club and such. Many of my friends are part of fraternity, clubs, and student government.

    Bang for the buck

The school is not cheap. However, the school is generous with scholarship. It is the only university that I know that offers any kind of scholarship to international students. It is the only university that I know that allows pre-pharmacy students to interact with pharmacy school directly. The school is willing to help anyone with financial difficulties. Financial office is very quick and good at their jobs. Also, the school is continuing to make new buildings. The University Center where students eat and biology building are two years old. They just finished building a new gym place and they are currently building a new dorm.

    Tips for prospective students

Search all the programs that our school offer. They are great. Find the program that is right for you. A lot of students come for the accelerated programs. E-mail the school and ask for a current student with your major of interest. That is how I learned about this school and decided to come here.

Great for these types of students

Our school is one of a very few univerisities that offer accelerated pre-health profession programs. 2+3,3+3,4+3 pre-dentistry students are offered a guaranteed interview at Dugoni dental school in San Francisco if they maintain their requirements, which are very reasonable. Pre-dentistry students have to take a national dental school entry exam, DAT. Pre-pharmacy students don't have to take any type of national entry exams. 2+3,3+3,4+3 pre- pharmacy students are guaranteed to an interview at the UOP pharmacy school on campus as well. All 2+3 program students don't graduate with BS, however. If you want to become a pharmacist or a dentist fast, our school is a great school for you. Our school is also well known for music and education.

    Am learning a lot

Most universities/colleges don't allow students to get started on their majors until Sophomore or Junior year of college. As a Freshman at UOP I've already gotten a feel for what I will be doing as a sports medicine or Athletic Training major. Four weeks into classes and I've already learned how to tape ankles, wrists, and arches. I've also learned how to fit helmets, how to handle a person with a seizure, etc. Being a freshman at UOP, I've already been exposed to my major and can decide early on what I want and don't want to study in school. Many students have already decided that Athletic Training isn't for them because of this exposure.

    Am enjoying being here

I did have a hard time getting used to being away from home, but this place is truly a great place to adjust. I'm surrounded by trees and green grass and fun people all the time. I've met lots of people whom I have a lot in common with and we've really hit it off! Plus there are many events here such as Tiger Nights (which are dances), Toga Parties, movie nights, fancy Fridays, and much much more!

    Bang for the buck

It's definitely a pricey school, but I feel like I'm getting a lot more adequate attention from my professors and they're always willing to help. Being in small classes, I'm able to get to know my teachers and they're able to get to know me! They have office hours and are always willing to stay after class to answer questions. It's great! Definitely pricey, but worth every penny.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard and check this school out. It's a good school. I swear.

Great for these types of students

Students who like the quiet suburban feel, or students who want to go to the East Coast but can't afford to. Walking onto this campus is like walking onto a school in the East, definitely with these brick buildings and tall trees which provide plenty of shade. Plus it's the 5th nicest campus in the US!

The environment at UOP is great and exciting. The class sizes are a huge advantage to the learning ability compared to other colleges. With the smaller class sizes the students can concentrate more and have a closer relationship with the professors that they come into contact with.

    Am enjoying being here

Even though it is my first year and I don't really have anything to do yet I see a large potential for me to go out and find clubs and find a place to be within the school grounds. I have some past friends who attend here and they also agree that they have a great time at UOP

    Bang for the buck

Of course, the cost at UOP would be a little pricey because of being a private school but you do get your money's worth here on this campus. Again, with the class sizes you have a better chance of retaining the information for the prices that you are paying. UOP also provides many ways of payment that can help the students who need it

    Tips for prospective students

For future students, I encourage you to choose this school for many reasons. This school has been voted to have a beautiful campus. The personnel at UOP are very friendly and very helpful if any questions arise. UOP also provides a large variety of majors for any incoming student and it would be great to have enthusiastic students on campus.

Great for these types of students

UOP is great for students who are not afraid of Stockton environment, students who are willing do experience new things and enjoy the college life.

UOP is one of the few universities in the U.S. that has accelerated pre-pharmacy and pre-dentistry programs. I will gladly give this school four out of five stars for its high quality of education in the sciences. The lack of the fifth star is because of the school's location in Stockton, CA.

    Tips for prospective students

The majority of the students who come to this school come for the accelerated pre-professional (pharmacy and dentistry) programs. There are 2+3, 3+3 and 4+3 programs; first number is the years of undergraduate study and the second number is the years of graduate study. So a student in one of these programs will become a pharmacist or a dentist in 5, 6, or 7 years. UOP is also pretty known for its pre-law and music programs, but since I'm not a music major or pre-law, I don't have much to say about that. Tuition is expensive.

    Academic Rigor

Science courses are very challenging but they are doable. It is fun because your classmates and you all suffer together. That's how you become close with everyone in the same program. General education courses are quite enjoyable get-aways from the science classes, but PACS 1, 2, and 3 (required for all students) can get annoying. The honors program has its extra honors class requirements.

    Dorm Life

As a Freshman, I lived in the UOP honors dorms. 99% of residents there are in the pre-professional programs, so you end up taking the same science courses with your dorm neighbors. Because everyone is suffering and worrying about the same issues (biology exam, chemistry exam, etc.), it is super easy to find lifelong friends with similar interests. In non-honors dorms, you are more likely to meet a variety of students in different programs. Each dorm has a sister dorm in which the residents of both dorms have access into both buildings. Throughout the year, there are events like the Quad Olympics, Halloween decoration contest and other games among the dorms. All on-campus dorms are both sexes, divided by floors. All dorms are three stories high. Girls are usually on first and third floors; boys are usually on the second floor.

    Food and Dining

Food is not so great. It is buffet style, but you might get tired of the menu pretty quickly. For car-less students, there are shuttles and city buses to go to the local mall and restaurants, but I would recommend that students always travel with 2 or 3 friends since Stockton is not the safest cities to be in.

    What to do for fun

Besides the parties, there are weekly events and concerts you can attend. This school has some fantastic bands. Students can make reservations at the game room for video games or karaoke, gather in the Lair to watch football or basketball games, go swim, rock-climb, or play tennis in the school facilities, or go out of campus for some good food and shopping.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is expensive and it is getting more and more expensive every year.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The schools tiger mascot wanders around the campus every Friday. If you are wearing any type of school wear (T-shirt, sweats, hats, etc.) and the tiger spots you, he or she will give out free prizes! The prizes are usually a type of eatable treats, but it can also be shirts or hats that are worth about $20!

Great for these types of students

I recommend this school for prospective pre-pharmacy, pre-dentistry, pre-medical, pre-law, and music major students. UOP is well known for all those programs.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many opportunities to participate in school life. Professional program clubs provide seminars and important speakers that will give a lot of beneficial information for students aiming for graduate school. Volunteering clubs meet every weekend to go to animal shelters, food drives, homeless shelters, local schools, etc. There are also clubs for anime lovers, Harry Potter fans, singers, martial artists, and so much more.

    Greek Life

The fraternities at this school are infamous for their RUSH events and requirements. Beware!

    Campus Safety

Stockton, CA was ranked #2 most miserable city to live in the U.S. last year. It was #1 the year before that, but the campus itself is relatively safe. The school spends a lot of money for campus security each year. There are small golf-cart-like cars called STRIPES that patrol the campus after 6PM. If students don't feel safe at night, they can also call STRIPES (starting at 6PM) to get rides to locations within the campus.

I am a bioengineer pursuing a focus in medicine. Although every school has its few rotten apples when it comes to professors, UOP has remarkable professors who dedicate their time to helping you understand the material. The small class sizes allow you to get on a first name bases with the professor and the students. The courses are tough, specially the science ones, but you will be much better prepared for the real world and graduate school.

    Am enjoying being here

Since the school is a beautiful small campus, you meet and befriend so many different people and can play sports on the grass or go hang out at the UC. Although its in stockton, it is in the great part of stockton. The only bad thing is that the school has faced its few townspeople intruding every now and then onto some unauthorized buildings.

    Bang for the buck

It is VERY pricy, maybe more that it should be, however I believe its one of the best educations and personal attention you can receive at a California university.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest that future students budget their money and make sure they know what they want to do because paying almost 50 k a year may not be the best plan if you are going to not know which path you are pursuing.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for pharmacy, dental, business, and engineering students. We have a great new engineering building and engineers have many privileges on campus. The science courses are rigorous but you can guarantee that you will come out with the best skills and knowledge.

I am a Computer Science (BS) undergraduate student and I love Pacific! I've always been interested in Video Game Simulation and Development but I was worried that with no experience I would be unable to pursue it. It turned out that Pacific was a great way for me to get started. Professors are very helpful and there are so many tutoring resources that you can seek out.

    Am enjoying being here

I have made many friends since attending: I am a Student Advisor helping out with the incoming freshman class, I am a Residential Assistant helping to maintain orderly conduct in the residence halls, and I am an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha, Kappa Nu chapter on campus as a scholarship chairman.

    Bang for the buck

Pacific is more expensive than CSUs and UCs but it's the correct fit for me. A great education, free tutoring, sports, Greek life, free gym membership, and so much more, it's hard to imagine myself at any other school. And besides, Pacific's financial aid services are great as well, helping students to find a way to attend. They don't leave you in the dust like other schools I had to deal with.

    Tips for prospective students

Always look into the schools you're applying to before you go head first into deciding. Be proactive! Don't wait until the last minute to decide to start researching. Once you're admitted and attending, keep up with your studies, your social life, and whatever else makes you happy so you don't fall behind on anything. Minimize the margin for error so it helps you in the long run.

Great for these types of students

For students who want to excel, want to grow, and want to be able to look back and honestly say that they do not regret their choice of a university.

I believe that Pacific is one of the most supportive college communities out there. The entire campus community truly cares about students' well-being and success in not only academics but also in life. At Pacific, every student matters and there is no chance of being lost in the shuffle.

    Academic Rigor

Pacific offers some truly academic rigorous courses. Due to small class size professors take on a more hands-on teaching role. They aim to challenge you and broaden your perspectives. They are personally invested in your success in their class. If you are struggling in a course, many professors are willing to go over material with you. If this isn't your style, there is free on campus peer tutoring available. Though some courses are more challenging than others, if you make yourself accountable and study often, you will do very well in your classes.

    Dorm Life

I personally did not have the opportunity to live in the dorms myself. I did however spend plenty of time in the dorms visiting and staying with friends. Pacific has several different types of living communities available to freshman: two larger residence halls and several smaller halls known as quads. Within these communities there are honors dorms and other groups. In all residence halls, the rooms are quite similar. Most are typically double and single occupancy, though I believe halls have triple occupancy rooms. The rooms are relatively spacious. The beds and desks can be arranged as you wish. Some rooms even have sinks. The Resident Advisers I had the chance to meet were very nice and cared a great deal about the students in their residence halls.

    Food and Dining

The food at Pacific is pretty good. Bon Appetit is the company that does the food services for the entire university. The food they provide is healthy and local. On campus there is a main dining hall in University Center (known as the UC) which serves a variety of things such as Mexican food, Chinese food, pasta and sandwiches. There is a grill on the second floor of the UC called The Lair. The Lair is the only place on campus where alcohol is sold (to the 21 and older crowd of course). They serve a wide variety of food such as burgers, hot dogs, wraps, and salads. It is up in The Lair that karaoke nights and other live entertainment are held. The is an on-campus grocery store called The Grove where fresh fruit, frozen items, and other groceries can be purchased. Students can also buy breakfast and lunch from the EAT truck. The EAT truck serves delicious snack items and lighter fare. If you are a coffee drinker, don't worry because the two on campus cafes serve both Starbucks and Jesus Mountain coffee and other drinks. Pacific's food is good and healthy but many students travel off campus to eat in order to get a little variety.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different types of clubs and organizations on campus. From cultural clubs to religious groups to intramural sports teams, there is something for everybody. Get involved!!!!

    Greek Life

I HIGHLY recommend Greek Life at Pacific. Before I went to college I never thought I would join a sorority. Greek life at Pacific is different than the typical stereotypes sororities and fraternities portray. There are 4 social sororities and 4 social fraternities, each with a house on campus. There is a sense of unity between all the houses and you can tell that everybody is proud to be Greek, regardless of what house they belong to. When in a sorority or fraternity, you form such a strong bond with your sisters or brothers. The Greek community works hard to better our world by supporting different philanthropies by holding many different fundraising events throughout the year. Going Greek was one of the best choices I have ever made.

    Campus Safety

I have always felt safe on campus. Pacific takes extra precautions to make sure students, faculty and staff are safe. There is an actual on-campus police force. There are emergency call posts all over campus. If you press the button and make the call, the police will be to your aid in minutes. There is also group called Stripe. If you feel uneasy walking around campus at night you call the widely available number and in a few minutes a member of the Stripe team will pick you up in a car or golf cart and take you to your destination. Pacific is a very safe campus.

The University is overall a great scholarly environment. The campus is beautiful and always clean. The professors are approachable and well versed in their various subjects.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to advocate for yourself right from the beginning. The faculty is more than willing to work with students, however it may be a bit difficult to meet with specific people.

    Academic Rigor

The subject matter of the classes I have taken so far has not been exceedingly difficult, however I have mostly been in general education courses. I expect the more specialized courses to be more rigorous.

    Dorm Life

I live off campus, however most students are Greek or athletes. I have heard good things about living in the dorms, and the students tend to have a strong bond.

    Food and Dining

Food choice and quality on campus is excellent. Off campus there is a pretty wide variety within a five mile radius.

    What to do for fun

Swim- the school has an Olympic size pool that is heated year round. There are also a lot of different recreational leagues on campus and weekly events that many students attend.

    Bang for the buck

The school is very very expensive but the financial aid department is pretty efficient and helpful.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Lots of Greek traditions. Large sitting rocks are constantly being painted by the different Greek houses.

Great for these types of students

Greek; Athletes; Gay, Lesbian, Straight Alliance students.

    Clubs and Activities

There is always something going on on campus.

    Greek Life

There is a huge Greek life organization on campus. At least half of the students are Greek.

    Campus Safety

Very safe. The campus has its own police station and force.

UOP is a small private school, meaning that the students and professors are able to have a close bond. My teachers really care about my learning and my progress in their classes. And the people are overall generally very nice and willing to help.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Do not be deterred by the city of Stockton. University of the Pacific is a safe environment and separate from the city.
    2. Stay organized. People are nice, but you are still expected to be very independent here.
    3. The value of hard work is paramount. Those that do not realize this may suffer.

    Academic Rigor

As a music major, people might say I have it easy in academics. But actually, my music classes are some of the most challenging and valuable classes I have ever taken. I transferred from UCLA, which is known to be difficult academically, but I find that UOP expects even more from their students. Since all the teachers know you by name, and they know exactly how you are doing in their class, they really do push you to your maximum potential. UOP classes don't try to overload you with homework or give you impossible assignments, but they try to make you perform the best you can.

    Dorm Life

-Southwest Hall is noisy on the first and second floors. Residents are mostly/almost all freshmen. But it is very close to many classrooms buildings and very conveniently located.
-The Quads (i.e. Eiselen, Jessie B, etc.) are closer to some classroom buildings, but can feel isolated from the rest of campus.
-McCaffrey building is smack in the middle of campus, ideal for people who want that apartment-style living, but with proximity to everything important on campus.

    Food and Dining

Food is great at UOP. Other colleges I've seen have not nearly the variety that we have here. There are plenty of healthy options, and the menu changes daily. There are 2 different salad bars, and a pasta bar everyday. On Tuesday nights, there is a sushi bar. On Thursday nights, there is a dessert bar. And upstairs is the Lair where you can order beers, wine, sake bombs, and bar foods at night.

    What to do for fun

There are 2 malls nearby and plenty of bars and restaurants to check out in the city. Miracle Mile has some great places to eat (check out Whirlow's for sandwiches, and Cocoro for sushi, and Manny's California Fresh for fried chicken). And the school constantly has dances and events with games (like Casino Nights) that are hosted by sororities or fraternities.

    Bang for the buck

University of the Pacific is an undeniably expensive school. But they are pretty good with offering scholarships. For the cost, I do think it is worth it. I have finally found my school where I can feel at home.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Go to the Lair for drinks after late classes.

There is a food truck called E.A.T. that can be found at different places throughout the week for when you want something a little different, or if you're on the go.

Great for these types of students

Great for students that need personal attention and 1-on-1 help. There is always someone there to help you out with tutoring, counseling, financial issues, etc., whatever the problem might be.
Also great for students that do NOT like an extremely competitive vibe. People are very friendly.

    Campus Safety

STRIPES - make sure you get their number! STRIPES can pick you up from anywhere on campus at night and take you back to your dorm. If you feel any bit unsafe or scared to walk alone at night, or if you're just lazy, just give STRIPES a call and they'll come get you in about 5 minutes!

The campus is beautiful and very welcoming. The professors know your name and care about how well you are doing in the class. The facilities are very convenient and constantly being made better.

    Tips for prospective students

It is important to make sure you have time for your social life as well as your academic life. It is easy to get caught up in Greek life and hanging out with friends, don't take advantage of the small classes and friendly teachers. Take advantage, however, of the services that the school provides, such as STRIPES.

    Academic Rigor

Although the classes are tough, especially the science classes, the teachers are very encouraging and are willing to take time to help you succeed.

    Dorm Life

The campus is small so the cafeteria, gym, and library are very accessible. The dorms are very nice and roomy. They are usually doubles and occasionally triples in certain dorms. The dorms are not too large so it is easy to know everyone living in your building, the bathrooms are clean and so are the showers.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is not buffet style, so the food may be more expensive than expected. Be careful when buying food from the cafeteria and snacks from the grocery market, it is common for people to run out of meal points before the year is over.

    What to do for fun

The gym has a rock climbing wall, and there is a place a mile off campus called Miracle Mile that contains shopping, restaurants, and various attractions.

    Bang for the buck

Although the school is quite expensive, the campus is very appealing and the professors are very engaged with the student's learning experience. The facilities are also updated and maintenance are always being done to improve the student's experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

All Greek life have their own unique traditions that occur every school year, which includes all students that are interested.

Great for these types of students

Pacific is a great school for students who want a degree in a few years because being a private school, Pacific guarantees giving students the units and classes they need to graduate on time. Pacific's social life is also very lively, where the weather is never too hot or too cold.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs at Pacific, holding booths all across campus and arranging activities and events for students who are and are not part of the club to participate in. There are also dances that the Greek life hold, both alcoholic and non alcoholic.

    Greek Life

There are many Greek life options, both social and professional. A big part of the school population is engaged with Greek life.

    Campus Safety

There are constantly police patrolling, and there is a service the school provides that gives rides to students back and forth to places especially at night.

A school that lets practically anyone in except for their more renowned majors, such as music and dentistry. Terrible at financial aid help. Increasing amount of tuition every year.

    Tips for prospective students

    Do not go here.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what classes you take, the school does have good professors and classes.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are noisy. Don't expect to get a lot of sleep. You will not like it unless you are a party animal.

    Food and Dining

The menu never changes all year round. Students are frequently tired of the same thing every day. Staff are friendly.

    What to do for fun

Stockton is a dangerous city, so most people stay on campus. There is not much to do except for hang out with your friends.

The University of the Pacific that prides itself in academic success. The aspect that makes this University differ from many others is the way in which the school is able to balance its high academic standards with a wide variety of student sponsered events, activities and clubs. The University understands that this balance between social and academic life throughout campus is important because learning and students growth takes place outside the classroom just as much as it does inside the classroom

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. Yes the campus is small, but there are so many things to get involved in on campus that will make your experience here an amazing one

    Academic Rigor

The academic work load on campus does tend to be a struggle, but with a R-year guarentee and all the support you could ever ask for, students learn to push through leaps and bounds what they ever thought they could do.

    Dorm Life

Residence life is an experience that simply can't be put into words. It's something that i believe every student should go through, for at least one year; you grow so much as a person.

    Food and Dining

There is a big variety of food on campus and it is generally very good.

    What to do for fun

    Go Greek!
Join one of the over 120 clubs on campus (and if you can't find one you like, you can make one with just 8 students and a faculty advisor)
Go to athletic events, they are all free for students
Go to the lair for open mic night or when a local comedian is performing
Go to a dance floor hosted by our very own ASUOP
    Go to Tiger Nights!
Go down miracle mile with friends to grab a bite to eat
Go watch a stockton thunder or stockton ports to watch some semi pro teams play.

    Bang for the buck

Yes we are a private school but because of that we are able to provide a numerous amount of financial aid to over 80% of students on campus. You might be paying a little more out of pocket per year; however, with a 4 year guarantee (the University guarentees that you will graduate in 4 years!) There is a huge bang for your buck!

The talking columns. These columns were donated by the stockton public library. They are located next to the library. So, what it is, is there are 6 columns that are slanted in facing eachother at an 87 degree angle, in the middle there is a brass plate with 100ft of dead air underneath. When you stand on the brass plate and face a pillar and shout something, you can hear your own echo!!

Great for these types of students

Great for students that don't want to be lost in a crowd of people with a huge student body but rather prefer a smaller campus and more individualized attention from your faculty members.

    Clubs and Activities

Over 120 clubs on campus! There is also the Pacific Janet Leigh Theatre on campus! You can go and watch movies there every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 8pm.

    Greek Life

On campus, roughly 16% of students are involved in some sort of Greek life. There are social, professional, multi-cultural, and community service based fraternal organizations. We also hold what's called a deferred recruitment policy: students are not allowed to rush for a fraternal organization until they have received a minimum of 12 units of coursework and a 2.5 GPA.

    Campus Safety

We have 13 sworn public safety officers that are affiliated with the Stockton Police Department (so they are not rent-a-cops, they are actual police officers. They work 24/7 365! There is also a student ran organization called STRIPES. Every night between 6pm-2am where you can call a number and if you are every feeling unsafe to walk back to your residence hall, they will come and pick you up on a golf cart and take you home, no questions asked. We also have the blue light system, located all throughout campus, you press a red button on one of these towers and a public safety officer will be there in under a minute and a half guaranteed!

Here at Pacific, the class sizes are very small, so all your teachers know your name and know if you aren't in class. This also provides a great learning environment because teachers can answer student's questions in class, instead of other, bigger schools where one would have to go to office hours to have questions answered. Tutors are also available at the Educational Resource Center and specific tutors are assigned to certain subjects. At Pacific you can talk to a teacher before or after class or at office hours. Failing all that you can make an appointment with them as well. The classes are really good here. All the teachers are very knowledgeable about their subject and excited to teach students about what they know. It's great knowing that I will learn something every day I go to class.

Pacific is in Stockton, California. As much as Stockton has a bad repuatation, where the school is there is nothing bad going on most of the time, quite like most other towns in America. The school is very safe, they have Public Safety officers and if you are ever out late and don't want to walk back to your dorm alone, you can get a ride from STRIPES, who will come pick you up wherever you are on campus and drive you back to your residence hall. Life in the dorms isn't that bad either. The Residence Assistants are always very nice people and will help you with anything from locking yourself out of your room to just needing someone to talk to. Hall mates can be great to spend time with, I highly recommend getting to know your neighbors so that you have someone to visit if you want to. Even though things quiet down on the weekend, one can always spend time with friends to pass the time.

    Bang for the buck

Pacific does charge nearly fifty thousand dollars for tuition. However, the school is worth the money. The small size is wonderful because if you aren't very good with directions, it's actually hard to get lost once you figure out the basic buildings like the dining hall, your dorm, and chances are at least Freshman year most of your classes will be in one central area or building. The hands on experience with teachers is great as well, and is worth the tuition just because of that fact. Having the ability to have your teachers know who you are and the fact that you have access to them is a priceless asset most colleges cannot say they have.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are studying a foreign language I would suggest that you take as many years of it as you can while in High School. The language classes here are on a higher level, as are all classes, but language is the most prominent difference I have seen. One year of a foreign language is required for Liberal Arts students and one year is about three years of High School language, so study foreign language hard if your interested in the Liberal Arts. Another suggestion is keeping an eye on the scholarships available for incoming Freshman and apply for all of them, they can really help you pay for school, every little bit of aid you get counts. Also, for the MOVE trip as part of orientation, make sure to pick your location early so you don't end up in a location you didn't want. Spots do fill up quickly.

Great for these types of students

Pacific is great for students who are hands on with teachers. Anyone who interacts a lot with their teachers would love it here since as I've mentioned, teachers know who is in class that day. It is also a great school for someone who wants a smaller campus, because the campus is very small and easy to navigate after two to three weeks. It is a nice school, and I think most people would be happy here.

The thing that got me to go to UOP was the small class sizes. I wanted to be able to learn and develop bonds with my professors so I could get the best out of my education and figure out what I want to do with my future as an electrical engineer major. At UC's and CSU's, I would not be able to do that because of the large class sizes and the professors being occupied with their research. At Pacific, I am able to get in contact with my professors with ease when I need help with work and I can even go and talk to them about their research and they will gladly talk to me and offer any advice about what I can do in the future. This is one of the many advantages of attending UOP.

    Am enjoying being here

As much as I am enjoying my time here, there is still some stuff that holds this school back. With UOP being located in Stockton, there is not much one can do off campus so you have to find stuff to do on campus. The thing is though, there is not a lot of things to do on campus either. There are a few activity rooms, but those tend to close early. The only thing that is open for a long time is the gym. The only way you are going to have fun is if you get involved on campus. I am able to have a good time because I am part of the fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha and also a member of the club rugby team. I suggest getting involved with whatever you can to make the best of your time if you attend UOP.

    Bang for the buck

Pacific is an expensive school. Tuition just went up and it feels like I am not getting my money's worth sometimes because of the limited number of things to do for students here on campus. But UOP does give some good amounts of financial aid. This was one of the few schools that was giving me grants and scholarships. Even though there may not seem like a lot to do on campus, there is a lot of stuff you can do. I would say that I am getting my money's worth with the experience I am having so far at Pacific.

    Tips for prospective students

It takes more than grades to get into Pacific. Be sure you are a well rounded student. Come and visit Pacific if you can. That is the best advice I can give for people looking into college in general. The only way to know if you are going to be happy at a university is by actually checking it out in person and seeing for yourself if you it fits you.

Great for these types of students

Pacific is the place to be if you want to attend a school that is a really close knit community. You will develop close friendships with a lot of people, including your professors. UOP is a great place to grow as a person and get a top notch education.

There are courses that will teach you a lot depending on the professors as well. There are some professor that will make it interesting and there are others that one. There are some professors that will give you easy work and thereare others who will almost drown you in it. Most of the professors though will be more that happy to help and/or answer any questions, which can be a good thing when you're lost in the course.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the people. Everyone is nice and sometimes there's really fun activities going on around campus or in the city of Stockton. Yet when there is nothing going on it's a little harder to find something to do unless you go driving about an hour of the city.
Party life can be fun but it's not the only thing that is. The games that go on, like baseball, basketball, and soccer games, can be very entertain with a large or small group of friends!

    Bang for the buck

Very expensive and can be more expensive over the years if you fail courses, have small damages to dorms/campus apartments, and if your grades are lower than a 2.0.
Each year the tuition keeps going up. It's not worth the money for some of the courses that are available within that semester.

    Tips for prospective students

Dont fail your courses and talk to your faculty advisors as well as your professor as much as you can.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school if you enjoy the small teacher to student ratio and if you don't mind paying a high tution.

I really like how there are many classes being offered in this school and how there are more options for majors and classes as well. I was scared when I first attended my classes, but I really love it. The professors at this university are great and very helpful. I have several memorable professors and It's only been a year. I learned so much in the classes I've attended and it's way more than I've expected. I got to learn all about the movements of my body in Expressive Movement class, which I recommend people to take because it's such a fun class; all about speech from Public Speaking, which was intimidating at first but fun once I got to speak about topics of my own choice; sociology in cultures and societies, which was a great eye-opener; and so much about law in Business Law. There was just something interesting in all my classes that caught me. I've only learned the surface though. There's so much more to learn and I'm excited to see what comes next.

    Am enjoying being here

It's such a beautiful peaceful campus. I just love the nature that's all over the school. It makes me feel relaxed and there's always a place to go and just enjoy the view. It can get hot sometimes, but the weather is really great. It feels as if the school is in its own little bubble. The people here are great to talk to and so kind. I just enjoy all that's offered to me and how much I can experience. I'm just surprised at how much is offered.

    Bang for the buck

Education here is not cheap, but the staff really tries to help you to make your experience here great. They also help in making sure that the right classes are being taken and being taken in time. The class sizes are nice because you get the attention you need from professors and get to really know your classmates and friends. There's also so much offered on campus and that seems to be worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Just work hard and make an effort towards your future career. If you ever need help, don't be afraid to ask for it because the staff is really friendly and full of information. There are also student advisers and others who will help. They make an effort to make your school experience great and help you in any way possible. Don't be afraid to get out there and try something you are interested in.

Great for these types of students

Mostly for students who want to major in the medical field since the school is best known for it, but also for students who love nature, exploring around, and hot weather!

The courses are challenging. Some more than others, but that's life. I honestly have loved all the professors I've gotten here, and I can talk to them during office hours anytime I need to. They won't cut you a lot of slack, so be prepared to work, but if you truly enjoy learning, it's a great place to do so (and not just in classrooms!)

    Am enjoying being here

While I joined Pacific only for their excellent pharmacy program, I ended up staying because of the great experiences that I've had so far. I've branched out, joining six clubs my first semester and then eventually narrowing down my interests to just three. As a result, I've been super involved in many activities and hopefully as president and VP of two clubs and in becoming student advisor, I want to extend those feelings and interests to more students next year!

    Bang for the buck

It's an expensive school, I'm not going to lie. But I think the promise of getting into grad school if you finish your 2/3/4 years on track is worth it. As a small campus, you feel close to your professors, there's lots of extracurriculars and sports activities to interest everyone, but there's great lab and study materials for those who wish to focus on their schoolwork.
But honestly, I don't recommend going to UoP if you want a major that can be easily obtained elsewhere for less money.

    Tips for prospective students

Use all the resources you can! You have student advisors to help you along the way, faculty advisors to help you with questions on registration, friendly faces everywhere, and lots of places to hang out, so don't be shy to make friends.
But before you enroll, you should ask yourself if you are really committed to this path. It's a lot of money and time and effort, and a lot of programs won't transfer coursework over to another study. But if you ever need help, you can always contact me (:

Great for these types of students

For the health-care related students: Those who like to study (or if they don't like it, they can commit and study)
For engineers: The coursework doesn't seem exceptionally hard, and my friends played LoL and other games a lot, so it seems to be a great program. (Don't get me wrong though, it does require work!)
    For conservatory: Fun happy people?
For all other majors: Be happy! Be willing to explore! Do cool things. Great for everyone, I guess haha.

    Will learn a lot

I believe I will learn a lot since the class sizes are much smaller than at a public school. With a class size of 15 to 30, I can get the individual attention that I want and believe is so vital to the learning process.

    Will enjoy being here

Although not in the best location, UOP has a wide variety of programs and vacation opportunities that will help keep me busy throughout the year. Furthermore, UOP is located near Lake Tahoe and San Francisco, so it is easy to find something interesting to do.

    Bang for the buck

I love how the majority of students at UOP receive some sort of financial assistance. And, since UOP is a private school, they really help you find the money you need to attend!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure not to leave any open ends on your college application. I was wait listed because I didn't verify my 100 hour internship! Also make sure you keep in contact with the admissions office since they are so helpful!

Pacific's small class sizes allow professors to take more interest in their students which has helped me. Professors allow students to talk to them during their office hours and also after class. My professors have always been very helpful in teaching. It hasn't been all about grades for me but more about what I am learning and how I will use it in the future. During Finals week the Library is open 24 hours a day to provide a study safe environment.

I am a Graphic Design major with a minor in Business. I applied to Pacific first of all because it was free application, but secondly I wanted to play water polo and major in art. Pacific was one of very few schools that provided both options, majoring in Graphic Design and having NCAA sports teams. After my first semester I wanted to get more involved, Pacific has countless of ways to do so. Greek Life, Ambassadors, Clubs, Community Service Opportunities, Resident Assistants, and Student Assistants are only few of the many ways to be involved. I decided that Greek Life was for me, though neither my family nor I ever expected me to be in a sorority. I love it at Pacific and have made many great friends I'll have for the rest of my life there. The class sizes being very small help students and professors to have a better relationship. By the second week professors know all the students' names. The relationship I have with my professors are not just teacher/student but they act like a mentor. I feel comfortable around them and they are willing to help me with things that aren't necessarily for their class. Pacific is in Northern California in Stockton. Stockton is known for not being a very pleasing place to be. No one goes anywhere alone when off campus. The school itself is like a whole different world than Stockton. We have our own campus security who have been reported to be very fast at reacting to calls. Students to get emails a lot about recent activity that occurs to students or people of Stockton getting in bad situations, such as mugging, or getting held up at gun point. The main thing to remember is to never travel alone.

    Bang for the buck

Pacific, like all private universities, is very expensive. I have had to talk with financial aid numerous of times throughout my experience at Pacific. There are ways to get money for your education through Pacific's Private scholarships, FAFSA, Student Loans, and even Work Study. Pacific provides students with on campus jobs which are very flexible because they know that education is the most important. When I had to decide where I wanted to go to school it was between Pacific (a pricey school) or a Cal State or Community College (which would save me loads of money). I chose Pacific; and if I could go back and change schools if I wanted to I would still choose Pacific. I will be paying back loans probably for the rest of my life but it is definitely worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Pros: graduate in 4 years garanteed, small class sizes, campus involvement,
    Cons: expensive, bad area,

Great for these types of students

Pacific is most known for their Pre Dental program and Pre Pharmacy program; however they have great Business, Speech Language Pathology, and Sports Med programs as well. Pacific is amazing if you enjoy having a small class size with more attention from the professors.
