    Tips for prospective students

Keep the lists of extracurricular activities up. Take the ACT and try your hardest to do a good job on it.

Great for these types of students

For people who want a good college experience in a small town with a larger town just over the hill. Small and friendly town with main amenities. Very easy to make new and lasting friends.

    Am learning a lot

Wayne State College helps find careers for students with their general education program. Students receive a well rounded education as they take courses in science, art, math, and business.

    Am enjoying being here

There are always activities for students to participate in. The school organizations provide ways to meet new friends.

    Bang for the buck

WSC provides a quality education at a low price.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should do the best they can on the ACT and their school work. It will help make great study habits for while in college.

Great for these types of students

WSC is a great college for students who prefer small class sizes where the professors know each of their students names. The student population is small enough to walk across campus and meet people you know, but big enough to meet someone new each day. Also, students can walk to classes because all the buildings are close.

    Did learn a lot

The computer department is filled with some of the most intelligent and most patient people I have ever met. I love every one of them. They were able to help me get my major sorted out and I don't regret changing majors for a moment.

    Am learning a lot

Whether in the classroom or at the poetry or fiction printing press, painting something for art class or acting on the stage, there's always both in-class knowledge and hands-one experience to be found at WSC. Plenty of opportunities exist to learn about new subjects, new interests, and new cultures and ideas.

    Am enjoying being here

Something's always going on at WSC, whether a holiday party involving going to see the supposed ghosts lurking in Ley theather or a late-night Dark Knight party during finals season, or a both hilarious and thought-provoking discussion with several professors. In one day, a student can have a fascinating in-class conversation, go to one of the free movies offered on campus, attend (or start!) a club perfectly tailored to their interests, and hang out with friends while doing homework. WSC is both enjoyable and satisfying.

    Bang for the buck

Even in these tough economic times, the only college names that seem to appear over and over again in conversations are east-coast institutions such as Harvard and Yale. These are perfectly fine, especially for doctors and lawyers, but for teachers and students of the humanities who prefer something that suits their major more and is incredibly affordable, WSC really is the best-kept secret of Nebraska.

    Tips for prospective students

Get out of the dorm and join as many groups as you can that interest you, provided you don't overload yourself to the point of only stressing about them. Sit next to new people as often as possible-- say hello and get to know everyone. Seize every opportunity. When you've been studying for 10 hours straight, take someone's offer to go watch Iron Man or Inception at midnight in a dorm room.

Great for these types of students

Teachers, writers, artists, and anyone involved in the humanities; people willing to stretch beyond their bounds and get to know everyone, including their professors. Those who are willing to work for what they want, accept responsibility, and have fun all the same time will excel here.

Wayne State is a great college. The only bad thing is the town is about 2 miles by two miles and does not have very much of anything you need in town. It would be a better atmosphere for college life if there was more variety in the shops and food choices.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have a car or a friend who does have a car. It will help you immensely in the long run.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on the major but the teachers actually want to help you.

    Dorm Life

Never actually lived in a dorm.

    Food and Dining

The gag has the same things every day and it makes my stomach turn. Have not eaten there for about two years now.

    What to do for fun

There are the sporting events and Majestic Theatre in town. Anything else is outside the town limits.

    Bang for the buck

Not so much, a few things are cheaper but even the dollar store is overpriced.

Great for these types of students

Great place for athletes. People in the town will pretty much worship you.

    Clubs and Activities

Get involved. the more involved you are the better your support system and you need it in this town. The clubs are great and you'll meet a ton of people who are usually cool.

    Greek Life

    Not much of one.

    Campus Safety

Cops harass everyone so the campus is pretty safe. NOT!!!

Wayne State College is a student friendly campus with tons of chances to become involved and learn almost everything there is to think of. We have a great math and science department, an outstanding business department and one of the nations best education programs. In your free time when you have nothing to do, the recreation center here has tons of activities that all students can partake in.

    Tips for prospective students

Here at Wayne, it is easy to maintain great social connections while gaining a great education. As long as you don't skip class and attend the lectures, there is no way that you wont succeed.

    Academic Rigor

You really have to stay on top of your studies because it is easy to get distracted with all the activities going on around campus. Most classes have monthly tests, so it is nothing the average college student cant handle.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life here at Wayne State College is great. I have met almost every single person on my floor because most people leave their doors open and welcome visitors. The dorm halls also have socials weekly and those become great places to pick up chicks.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is exceptional. They have one of the largest varieties of food that i have ever seen. Just picture all of the great buffet restuarants that you have eaten at, all clustered into one cafeteria. The cafeteria also has healthy alternatives including a large salad and vegetable bar.

    What to do for fun

There are tons of things to do for fun here at Wayne State. If you are a sport buf, there are home games weekly including the exciting rugby teams. There are like 70 academic groups on campus that you can become involved in also. Like i said above, the recreation center is where most students spend their free time. they can play basketball, workout, swim, lift wieghts, play raquetball, join intermural teams, and so much more.

    Bang for the buck

It is really cheap for such a great education.

Great for these types of students

Students who want a small town atmosphere with tons of friendly people and professors.

    Clubs and Activities

If you cant find a club that you want, the dean of the college will allow you to create your own group club!!!

    Campus Safety

The campus security is exceptional here. They are always around to help if you need something or lock your keys in your car.

Imagine your Goldilocks in the story of the Three Bears: Wayne State...is not too big, not too small, you're not lost at sea with over 10,000 students, neither is it a ghost town, homework is not tortuously overwhelming, neither is it baby's-first-steps easy, class length isn't forever-and-ever after, teachers aren't too over-the-top dictator strict, neither are they lazy or careless.....Wayne State is juuuusst right.

    Tips for prospective students

Wayne State is big on one thing: OPPORTUNITY. You've got hopes and dreams? Want to start your own club? Travel the world? Make a difference? Create long-lasting friendships? Immerse yourself in the adrenaline-rush of athletics? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. Wayne State can make it happen. Small in size, it's BIG on helping students achieve their academic endeavors, as well as reaching for the stars and beyond. With it's dedicated professors and friendly atmosphere, making that leap is closer than you think.

    Academic Rigor

The class sizes range from about 10-30 students per class, instead of a lecture hall of over 200 students. This is such a huge advantage because you are able to find that personal one-on-one time with your professors to help you get the extra help you deserve. Most professors on campus are extremely dedicated and respond to you immediately. Homework isn't too bad, and class isn't just a place to learn the intended course of study, but so much more beyond that! Study Abroad is offered all the time on campus for affordable prices, so don't be surprised if your next class is in the gorgeous outskirts of Santorini, Greece. Honors program is available and free tutoring services are also offered.

    Dorm Life

Dorms range from I-can-manage-but-I'm-definately-picking-elsewhere--next-year all the way to the newly-renovated-and-smelling-like-an-apple-orchard. All dorms hold socials every now and then, social aspect depends on the people and dorm you're in (which can range from wild-and-free colleagues to chill-and-focused-on-my-studies colleagues) and free food is usually a given.

    Food and Dining

Upper GAG and Lower GAG. Despite the name, the food is actually pretty swell. Upper GAG is more of a buffet style dining area, where everything from Chinese, Italian, sandwiches, deserts and salads are offered in a relaxed setting. Whereas the Lower GAG, includes sandwiches, Taco Bell, Italian, Burgers and Ready-to-eat meals for the busy student on the go! Warning: It may sound like quite the abundance, but after a while you may get bored of the same things everyday.

    What to do for fun

In all honesty the TOWN of Wayne is not the most exciting place on the map. That is why Wayne State always holds free events on campus like Zombie Apocalypse or hypnotist/comedian shows , Country Night at Riley's (night of dancing away Footloose-style), The Majestic movie theatre (Three spankin' dollars a ticket!), and free admission to all its athletic events.

    Bang for the buck

Probably one of the best things about this school, is it's price tag. Affordable and your penny does go a long way. Plus, what sounds better to broke college students than FREE admission to athletic events, movies premiers on campus, dances and live shows, and the wide selection of FOOD available at those events...or whenever they just feel like giving it out.

Great for these types of students

Opportunists, dreamers, travelers, and intellectuals....wanting the whole package for a low, reasonable price.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 100 clubs on campus! Many of which have been started for students, by students. From archery, International club, Greek life, Intramurals, rugby, German club, Sci-Fi Club, Vogue Fashion club, Art club, Christian groups/clubs, Freethinkers, and many more! Not finding what you're looking for? Start one. There are tons of people willing to help you get started on bringing together people of shared passions and getting the word out!

i really enjoy being a student at wayne state. when nebraska's educators think education they think wayne. wayne began as a college solely for future teachers, it has expanded since.

    Tips for prospective students

students can easily be intimidated when becomming a college student for the first time. wayne's small class sizes and friendly places are certain to put you at ease.

    Bang for the buck

dollar amount per credit hour is affordable compared to other colleges and universitys in the area.

wayne is a great small town state college. your teachers know you and are willing to go out of their way to help their students. you really feel part of the community.

    Tips for prospective students

realize, it's a small school. make sure your major/minor is available. if it's not don't shy away. the wayne state staff make great advisers, and will help point you in the right direction.

    Academic Rigor

how tough classes are depends on your major and what you are willing to put into it.

    Dorm Life

some love it. some hate it. you are part of the community of wsc and wayne, america no matter where you live.

    Food and Dining

wsc has 3 major dinning options. a full cafeteria, a fast food cafeteria when the actual cafeteria isn't open, and jitters, the library coffee shop.

    What to do for fun

there is always something going on. sporting events, theatrical performances, art showings, student activities, etc.

    Bang for the buck

wayne is cheap and you get a quality education.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the town is often referred to as wayne, america. not wayne, nebraska.

Great for these types of students

someone who like to feel connected would love wsc. there is always something going on and you get to meet people from all over.

    Clubs and Activities

there are far too many to count. one of the more unique ones is the sci-fi club which puts on a killer haunted house every year. tons of sports teams and activities to be involved in.

    the best ever!

    Tips for prospective students

if you're going to pick a dorm they are all really decent. the best one's are pile hall, because it's brand new and has never had students in it, or bowen hall because it has the best bathrooms and elevators and air conditioning. the other dorms all have sinks in the rooms but don't have air conditioning and central heating. stay away from morey hall! it's the worst dorm here.

    Academic Rigor

the classes are tough but the teachers are fair. i'm in the pre-medicine program at wayne state and it is difficult, they make sure you know what you need to. however, the teachers always have office hours if you need help and the campus offers free tutoring sessions for most subjects. the classes are small sized so it's easy to learn. they want you to do well.

    Dorm Life

dorm life here is great. all of the dorms i've been in are good for their own reasons. pile hall has been newly renovated in fall of 2011, so it's brand new. bowen hall has really private restrooms and a lot of closet space! also the lobby is split into half floors so you can socialize with many more people including the opposite genders. berry hall, morey hall, and terrace hall have larger rooms that gives you the offer to loft your beds so that you have more floor space. and niehardt hall and anderson hall are really quiet dorms. if you like peace and quite and study time those are the dorms for you. there are dorms for all personality types. it's great!

    Food and Dining

the upper cafeteria has amazing choices. they have a theme bar, a sandwich bar, a salad bar, a grill, and a pasta and pizza place. and and ice cream and desert bar. the choices really are almost endless. and the food isn't the gross, pre-prepared stuff that high schools serve you. it's fresh and really good. also, if you don't like whatever is on the menu upstairs their is a downstairs cafeteria that takes the meal plan. downstairs, they have an epic grill, and a pizza place, a sandwhich bar and even a taco bell. it's really cool having a taco bell that works off your meal plan! also there is a place in the library called jitters. there they sell starbucks coffee and slushies and meals to go if you are in a hurry. they also have candy and many other items that can be taken off your meal card. there is so many choices!

    What to do for fun

wayne is a pretty small town so most people wouldnt think there is much to do for fun. it's a dry campus so there isn't many parties. there is a really cool movie theater in town that just opened, it shows movies for only four dollars. really cheap is really good! :) on campus there is a lot to do also. there are a lot of clubs and activities to join that have socials and a lot of sororities and fraternities that have socials. there is also a christian group on campus that offers many fun things, like root beer keggers and stuff. the student activities board hosts a lot of free activities all over campus. these include air brush tattoos, bull riding contests, wax molds of body parts, make your own snow globes and many many more. they also host free movies once a month in the ramsey theater. so far this year they've shown pirates of the carribean 4, harry potter 8, horrible bosses, footloose, puss in boots, the hangover 2, and a few others. the football games are free to students and so much fun to watch.

    Bang for the buck

wayne state college is really affordable. compared to surrounding universities and private colleges it is the cheapest. they also have a lot of scholarship opportunities for freshman, transfer, and current students that help a lot. they work in collaboration with the board of trustees scholarship which is full tuition, the nihardt scholarship which offers full tuition and board, and the rhop scholarship which offers full tuition and entrance into unmc for prospective med students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

a really special place on campus is the willow bowl. it's this beautiful open arena, outside near a copse of trees. there are stairs and seats and a stage made out of stone. graduation is held there if the weather permits. i've even seen quite a few of the neighborhood citizens hold weddings there because it's such a pretty spot. a wierd tradition wayne state has is a campus wide game called zombies vs. humans. in the game, everyone on campus participates and some are designated zombies and others are humans. simply stated, the zombies catch the humans and eat them, which turns them into zombies, and the humans shoot the zombies with modified nerf guns, which stuns them so they can get away. the zombies die if they don't catch so many humans in so many days. the last team standing wins a prize and the last human alive wins a prize. it's a lot of fun and is amazing to see what an entire student body can have fun doing. :)

    Clubs and Activities

there are so many clubs. there is a club for every student. even a wii bowling intramural club with actual tournaments! some of the clubs include: biology club, sadd, w.r.i.t.e.s club, health science club, science fiction and fantasy club, rotaract club, fashion club, christian crusade, circle k club, and many sports teams and intrumural sports teams. there truly is a club for every person here, promise.

    Greek Life

there are two main sororities and two fraternities here on campus. they are both nice and somewhat affordable. socials are a must for greek life and they dress nice every monday. there is also a greek society for english majors, accounting majors, and an honors greek society offered here.

    Campus Safety

campus security is always driving around to help. they give every student their number so you can call at any hour if you need help or have hurt yourself. i've even called them to help change my tire. they also help if you lose your keys! also, there is a thing called wildcat wheels, which is sponsered by students and surrounding community. it is a cab service for wayne state students. no matter how late you can call them and they'll come get you and take you back to the dorms. it does cost a bit of money but it's totally worth it if you are a girl who is afraid to walk home alone in the middle of the night. also, they won't tell on you if your state of mind or level of intoxication is questioned. they just want you to get home safely. room doors are locked by your key and thats easily kept safe. the stair doors lock at 8 from the outside so that nobody can get in. the front doors also lock at 8 so that nobody except who lives there can get in, you have a key to those doors. every person who doesn't live in the dorm has to be checked in after 8 so no creepers can come waltzing into the building. it's all kept really safe.

the professors are amazing, everyone i've had is helpful and loves their job. there are so many activities on campus; from different clubs, sports, intramural sports, and events that students put on.

    Tips for prospective students

immerse yourself. try a bunch of different classes, i was surprised at how many classes are offered. try to get your textbooks early, a lot of times the bookstore either runs out quickly or they don't order enough.

    Academic Rigor

of course it depends on this class you're taking. most of the liberal arts and humanities classes are difficult but definitely not horrible. the science and math classes are a bit harder, at least the ones i've had. the science program at wayne is wonderful, they really make you work and apply critical thinking.

    Dorm Life

i do not live in a dorm but i've heard good things. there are a about 5 dorms on campus, i believe, each seems to have a different vibe.

    Food and Dining

the cafeteria, or as students call it - the gag, is alright. the lower gag has taco bell, pizza, different sandwiches and subs, a salad bar, and they have a menu for a lot of fried foods. the upper gag is more of a cafeteria and has a set cost for all you can eat.

    What to do for fun

depends what you're into, there are a bunch of clubs for almost everything. there are sports all year, of course, and there are intramural sports for those of us who are natural born athletes. there are always people in the library, hanging out at the coffee shop, studying, or messing around on computers.
