    Am learning a lot

Whitworth believes strongly in an education of mind and heart and this is obvious through all of the professors. Class sizes are fairly small, allowing lots of interaction between students and professors. The material is challenging, but there is always help available for those who are looking for it. If the dorms are too loud, the library can provide some much needed quiet and comfortable chairs for study time.

    Am enjoying being here

The student life on campus is wonderful. There are many ways to get involved and it is also great to have a personal relationship with professors. Whitworth has a really good support system and it is very difficult for students to fall through the cracks like at some larger schools. As for off-campus activities, Spokane has much to offer in the way of entertainment. There are many options to choose from weekly, but many times, students find themselves so occupied on campus, they rarely leave.

    Bang for the buck

The financial aid is fairly substantial and those in the student office are more than willing to work and find other options for individual students. Being a private college, the tuition is higher, but the education to be received is worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Explore many different schools and make sure to visit a few. The visit is an important decision factor. It can make all the difference. Ask lots of questions and be curious. Although it may seem like admissions counselors are very busy, they are there to answer any questions. If you forget to ask something in the interview, go ahead and just send them an email. They'll be happy to get back to you and help however they can.

Great for these types of students

Whitworth University is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, but it is not required for students to be of any particular religion or denomination. However, all of the professors are Christian of some denomination and do bring their beliefs and views into their teaching. Christianity is not forced on anyone, but faith is a strong aspect of the education at Whitworth. Students applying should be ready to work hard and to be challenged in many ways, but it is also very rewarding to see what was covered in just one semester.

    Am learning a lot

Whitworth has great academics--the classes are rigorous, and the class sizes are small enough for students to get the help they need from their professors. All classes integrate faith and learning, and my classes so far have been hard but definitely worthwhile. The CORE classes are required for all students, and CORE 150 taught me a lot this semester about worldviews and church history and different perspectives. The education department is great, and professors will work with you one-on-one to ensure that you are learning the course material.

    Am enjoying being here

Whitworth has a great atmosphere and a welcoming community. Events are always occurring on-campus to provide students with a study break or a chance to hang out with others. Primetime, which happens from 8-11 every night, is put on by the RA's in every dorm to give students an option to have fun for a little while. Some of the Primetimes in my dorm this past semester included baking, Candy Corn Olympics, Sleeping Bag Wrestling, board games, and many others. The people at Whitworth are very friendly, and everyone cares for each other. Overall, the community and the campus itself makes Whitworth an amazing school.

    Bang for the buck

Whitworth is very expensive. Although they do offer scholarships, the cost to attend the university is significant. I do believe that it is a wonderful institution, but I'm not sure if the cost is necessary--I feel like it puts a burden on many students.

    Tips for prospective students

Be excited and willing to meet new people and have a great time. Try to visit during the fall or late spring--it's beautiful during these times. Visit a class if possible, and talk to current students. They will tell you all about the programs offered at Whitworth, the caliber of students and faculty, the integration of faith and learning, the emphasis on the Christian community, and the warm atmosphere that permeates the university.

Great for these types of students

Christian students who want to be challenged in their faith and in their education. Students who are open-minded and caring and who will enjoy a smaller university with countless opportunities to get involved in the Spokane community and receive an education of the mind and heart.

The professors at Whitworth University are dedicated to their students and are willing to help students that are struggling and genuinely ask for help. Because Whitworth is a liberal arts college students have the opportunity to takes classes other than the ones required by their major. This gives students a chance to explore many areas. Many professors challenge their students to grow not only in intelligence but also in character.

    Am enjoying being here

Whitworth has an amazing community. I currently live on campus, in a dorm, and it is an amazing experience. I find students at Whitworth welcoming and warm. There are also many things on campus such as concerts and other events that bring students together and provide entertainment.

    Bang for the buck

Whitworth is fairly expensive, but they are also very helpful in the area of financial aide. The relationships with professors and comfortable class sizes makes it worth the price.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are interested in Whitworth University definitely visit campus. I didn't fall in love with the school until I stepped onto the campus and was surrounded by the students and shaded by the pine trees that cover campus.

Great for these types of students

There are a wide variety of students at Whitworth. Because Whitworth is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church many students are Christian, but there are a decent amount that are not.

whitworth university is a phenomenal school. i was worried going in without any friends at the school but the community is so awesome i was making friends before i knew it. whitworth is a great place if you are looking for a school with christian influence but also is open to changing ideas.

    Tips for prospective students

find scholarship money early! it is a very expensive school but the community and the knowledge to be gained is worth it.

    Academic Rigor

not going to lie it is a tough school.

    Dorm Life

the focus of the dorms are to build community. it is hard to find people on campus that you do not like. most dorms on campus are co-ed except for mcmillian, ballard, and cornerstone, with boys and girls floors.

    Food and Dining

it is not your mom's cooking anymore and you will just have to get used to that, after all you are going to college now. there are few options on campus for food, just saga(cafeteria) or the cafe.

whitworth is the perfect school for anyone looking for a well-balanced education based on more than just your brain; we learn to strengthen our brains, spirits, and hearts. at whitworth every student gains personal relationships with their professors which allows them to better connect and learn better. not only are the student-professor relationships great, but student-student relationships here become the strongest you've ever had; we are all there for each other no matter what.

    Tips for prospective students

-take time to meet new people; coming from spokane i thought i didn't need to make any new friends, but half way through the year i learned that old friends don't always stay the same.
-use your fellow students as a support system. they take many of the same classes, and are always willing to help with homework and homesickness.
-be open to peoples' views, even if they aren't the same as your own.
-at the same time, be yourself. people are more mature in college, not to say they aren't crazy and weird, but they respect and appreciate your uniqueness. express yourself; don't be who you think others want you to be; be who you want to be.

    Academic Rigor

it is not easy, but it is not impossible. take your time outside of class to learn the material thoroughly.

    Dorm Life

absolutely the best decision i have ever made was living in a dorm. i lived in baldwin jenkins as a freshman. coming from spokane i considered not living on campus, but looking back i am so glad i chose to live on campus in a dorm. the people you meet in the dorm will become your closest friends over the years. not only that, but studying for core tests, and other classes in general is always more fun in groups. need anything just go next door; and you always have a support system. baldwin jenkins is definitely the dorm i'd recommend to incoming freshman!

    Food and Dining

pretty decent food; however, for the price, not the best. dining area is being remodeled this year, and it sounds like it will be fantastic! i can't wait to see the expansion finished!

    What to do for fun

anything and everything. you never know what people will come up with. just be open for new and fun ideas!

    Bang for the buck

you will get more out of whitworth than just an education. the classes are great. people here are the best!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

many secrets.... but you have to get through traditiation week (most fun week of your life) to learn them. you won't regret it!

Great for these types of students

    -looking for a great education
    -lifelong friends
    -personal growth
    -anyone

    Clubs and Activities

there is something for anyone and everyone.

    Campus Safety

absolutely always feel safe here. if there is any concern, 24-hour campus security is always just one call away. not to mention your many dorm-mates who are always just a knock-on-the-door away.

whitworth is a great christian university that doesn't compromise its christ mission, while still having a vibrant, diverse community and high academics. the many opportunities for community, service, faith, and learning provide anyone with the options for success. christian and non-christians alike will feel welcome here and be challenged to ask tough questions and learn about other perspectives.

    Tips for prospective students

don't be intimidated by the seemingly confusing registration process, housing forms, and required classes. if you have any questions don't hesitate to call or ask in person and people will be more than willing to help you out. also, the faculty here is great, so don't be afraid to call a department chair just to chat about your intended major or for some more information. finally, if you visit, be sure to visit dorms and see what dorm life is like too.

    Academic Rigor

whitworth has very high academics and top-notch faculty that teach the classes. i am an engineering major and i have had to work very hard even in my first year to stay on top of my grades. the classes are challenging and integrate real world learning as well, and the professors are always helpful and available to help or answer questions.

    Dorm Life

the dorms at whitworth are amazing! the communities formed between roommates, halls, and whole dorms are, for the most part, very close and caring. my favorite part of dorm life is the many activities that are offered; every night from 8 to 11pm there is primetime in the lounge that is a different fun activity like jam sessions or doodling. there are also lots of fun off campus dorm activities too.

    Food and Dining

whitworth has several options for food: the dining hall, the cafe, and then snacks at the various coffee shops around campus. the dining hall is fairly good, but like anything it gets old after a while. the cafe has a sub shop, mexican place, and grill which are all good too.

    What to do for fun

whitworth is in spokane, wa which is a great small city. there is lots of fun shops, thrift stores, and cafes downtown, as well as the beautiful riverside park. on campus there are intramurals year round and lots of impromptu frisbee games in the loop. primetime is also a great time killer in the evenings, and there are many club sponsored activities like movie nights, ski trips, and more.

    Bang for the buck

yes, whitworth is expensive, but it is worth every penny! (plus there is lots of financial aid available.) the tuition gets you a quality undergrad education that prepares you very well for either the workforce or grad school and life in general. the overall experience of whitworth is also very welcoming and positive and prospective students should consider the spiritual growth that they will undoubtedly experience while here also.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the most unusual tradition whitworth has is called traditiation. it is for freshman and first year transfer students at the beginning of the year as a sort of icebreaker and way to meet lots of people while having fun. traditiation consists of a mockrock, dorm chant contest, and wooing, as well as small quirky things that continue through the weekend. wooing is what it sounds like; boys from the dorms come around to the girls and sing to them, then the girls sing back and so forth. it is very cheesy and ridiculous, but enjoyable too.

Great for these types of students

any student to simply wants a quality education will thrive at whitworth, however, students who are christians will get the added benefits of an extremely supportive and challenging spiritual community. as long as you aren't afraid to have open discussions about any topic from christian and secular perspectives and you are willing to grow and help other grow, you will fit right in.

    Clubs and Activities

there are countless clubs on campus and if there isn't a club that you want it is relatively easy to start one. there are also varsity division iii sports that are high-caliber and a great experience (i'm on the track team).

    Greek Life

none, the closest we come is the all girls dorm, ballard, and the all guys dorm, mcmillan.

    Campus Safety

i always feel safe on campus and the security guys are very fun and friendly to students. i often run in the dark alone, or walk on campus by myself and don't feel worried at all. whitworth is in north spokane, so the campus is slightly isolated from the main bustle of downtown.

Whitworth University is wholeheartedly committed to its motto of providing an education of the mind and heart. The professors are devoted to encouraging their students to reach their fullest potential and to explore topics outside of their usual comfort zone. Whitworth's student body is welcoming, energetic, and on fire for Christ.

    Tips for prospective students

Any student that is considering attending Whitworth University should stay overnight on campus with a current student! It is the best way to get a genuine feel for the campus and school.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at Whitworth are excellent and students must study diligently to succeed in their classes. The professors challenge their students and the students strive to do their best work.

    Dorm Life

Each dorm at Whitworth is different and can please the most outgoing to introverted student. The Resident Assistants are wonderful and enthusiastically encourage the dorm's community. Hall dates and outings are common occurences at Whitworth...and are always a lot of fun!

    Food and Dining

While the food in Sodexho can get repetitive, they offer a wide variety of options. Sodexho offers vegetarian and other special-diet friendly foods, as well as the American grill classics. Health-conscious eaters have plenty of dining options as well. Whitworth also has a cafe with Mexican, Asian, and American food and several coffee shops/kiosks.

    What to do for fun

Whitworth students enjoy nightly Prime Time activities in the dorms, exploring downtown Spokane, outdoor activities, getting frozen yogurt from one of the several local frozen yogurt restaurants, and lots more! Whitworth is a dry campus and students participate in good, clean fun. Some students attend alcohol-laden parties, but only a small percentage of students do and they are all off-campus.

    Bang for the buck

From personal communication and relationships with professors, to cozy residence halls and a close knit community of students, Whitworth University is well worth its expensive price-tag.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Freshman boys Wooing the girls during orientation week, the interlude dance at basketball games, hall dates to Dockside to order huge oversized sundaes, catching falling pinecones

Great for these types of students

    Clubs and Activities

    Am learning a lot

I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge due to the fact that all of the professors I have had here are very passionate in their field. Most all of them have a doctorate, and all classes have upperclassman TA's that assist students with preparing for upcoming tests. The TA's are helpful, and sometimes provide optional sessions for students that need extra help. The largest class I had, which I took for my major, had 50 students. Even in this large class, my learning really progressed because I was able to develop a one on one relationship with the professor who encouraged everyone to visit her during office hours.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyday I walk around campus completely thankful and amazed that I have the opportunity to be part of the Whitworth community. It truly is a close community that is vastly different than any large state university. When you meet someone new, you don't have to worry about never seeing them again. People are so friendly, it's really refreshing! Also, the weather is magnificent because Spokane has four wonderfully distinct seasons, only 17 inches of annual rainfall, and 260 clear days of sunshine. Another bonus is that the dining hall is expanding and will be brand new in fall 2012, three dorms have been built in the past 10 years, and a new dorm will be construted soon. I live in the newest dorm and it is like a hotel that is nicer than my room at home! Heck, I even get to take skiing/snowboarding for a PE credit! The brand new science building is also INCREDIBLE.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, this is an expensive private university, but I believe the school has so many advantages that make it a great value. Out of all the schools I applied too, Whitworth granted me the largest scholarship of $11,000 per year for four years. A few things that makes this school worth the price is that the class sizes are usually less than 20, the professors actually care about you as a whole person, are willing to help you one on one, and are understanding when you have a crisis. Not to mention there is so much openness between students and staff who want to investigate the spiritual side of the world. No matter what religion (or non-religion), students with various worldviews are encouraged to tackle big questions and present as well as develop their personal worldview while at Whitworth. This dimension is of Whitworth, combining mind and heart, is a unique aspect of the university. It truly feels like home.

    Tips for prospective students

APPLY EARLY! It is so worth it because you will be accepted faster and have first choice for which dorm you want. Also, campus visits give you the best experience for making the final college decision. Especially try to stay overnight in a dorm if possible so you can get a glimpse of student life, which is tons of fun.

Great for these types of students

Acceptance to Whitworth has started getting slightly more difficult to keep the undergrad population around 2,000-2,500, but is definitely possible. A good GPA and SAT score will REALLY be rewarding in the scholarship department, however, having a strength other than getting the grades, such as a sport, art, or music will make you a great candidate as well. Whitworth will be a good fit for you if want to have professors that want to get to know you and help you succeed, if you want to feel accepted no matter what religion, race, or orientation you may be, and if you want have the opportunity to hear so many great bands and speakers visit your school EACH WEEK.

The material to be studied is of a more difficult standard, but the professors are always there to help. Their office hours are consistent and they respond to e-mails really well. The class size is pretty small which allows for a more intimate setting where you learn more.

    Am enjoying being here

The overall Whitworth community is just fantastic! There is always something going on that you may never be bored! Everyone is so nice and friendly too. It's a fantastic school.

    Bang for the buck

Don't let the initial cost of Whitworth deter you from wanting to go. The financial aid here at Whitworth is some of the best around. It is a private college so the tuition is pretty high, but the financial aid office makes it reasonable for just about anyone to go. The education you receive is well worth the cost too.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't look at just one college. Make sure you do your research first. Also, if you are able, visiting the campuses is key. You never really know how much you are going to like a place until you go and see if for yourself. A lot of the time campus visits end up being the deciding factor for choosing a college.

Great for these types of students

Whitworth is a pretty strong christian college. You do not need to be any certain religion to go here, but the professors and other staff are all of some kind of christian denomination and they are proud to be so. It is also a dry campus, so if you are not a big party person and Jesus is a big part of your life, the Whitworth will be perfect for you!

Whitworth University believes that education in all aspects of knowledge, major non-major subjects, are important to the University's ideology of an education of the Mind and Heart. Whitworth strongly demonstrates this with having been recognized as one of the top Universities in Washington.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love the campus, and campus life. Every night in your dorm there are group activities called Prime Times and it is a great way to relax and chill for a couple hours with members of your dorm. There are also great school wide activities from intramural sports and we have great athletics, (We've captured the McIlroy-Lewis Trophy for the best combined standings across all sports for the fourth time in six years.) All around we have immensely fun dances and great opportunities to meet other people from around the campus

    Bang for the buck

While the cost of colleges are consistently going up every year, Whitworth sits around $40,000 a year. However don't let this number discourage you! The school offers fantastic financial aid. There are also numerous types of aid available such as; music scholarship, SAT/ACT/GPA scholarships, and financial need scholarships. Whitworth has also been listed in US News and World Report has having the best learning environment to tuition, ranking number 6th out of 126 universities.

    Tips for prospective students

Spend the night, or over the weekend if you ever have the chance. Speak to students and professors alike (you can find some in the coffee shop). Be engaged and never afraid to ask a question, the professors love any ideas, you might be talking for a while! Sit in a prime time and understand what makes a community.

Great for these types of students

A Whitworth student can be any student. You don't have to be insanely smart, you don't have to be religious. Whitworth is all about community and understanding your role in a larger society. Students who engage and ask questions, will exceed at Whitworth. Students who are a little shyer can always meet with professors at anytime, or even discuss over coffee. Students who need help determining what they want to do will also exceed here.

The professors really do a great job at imparting knowledge to their students. The course material is challenging, but not overwhelming and the professors are very open for questions outside of class. Class sizes are also quite small allowing for an even more personal learning experience.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful, the people are very nice, and the food is pretty good as well. It is very common for professors and students to develop personal relationships and very easy to get involved with clubs and other activities on campus.

    Bang for the buck

As a private university, the base tuition price is fairly high, but they are very generous and will work with you to find more options if needed. The quality of the classes and the friendliness of pretty much everyone there make up for the price.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit. Tours of campus are given every Friday and it is fairly simple to arrange for one on any other day. It is also common for prospective students to sit in on actual classes and I would highly recommend doing so if possible. As with any other school you are looking at, be sure to ask any questions you might have.

Great for these types of students

Whitworth is a great school for those who wish to learn and have fun. The main three campus rules are no alcohol, no cohabitation, and no violence, so basically if you don't mind those, Whitworth is a great school. Also, Whitworth is a Christian university and all professors are members of one denomination or another, but they do not push their values in any way and, if anything their Christian values contribute to the great environment.

The professors are very educated in their field of study and prove it in the classroom. They teach really well and if you need help they are more than willing to meet with you outside of class to assist you or just ask you how you are. I got the impression that everyone genuinely cares about your well being and will try their best to help you succeed.

    Am enjoying being here

Whitworth is great! I love all the people and the administrators and professors are all really friendly, as are the other faculty members such as the janitors and those who work in the Health Center. Everyone wants to see you succeed and actually cares how you are doing.
There are a lot of things to do in Spokane and the surrounding area, but there is also a lot of snow. At first, it's wonderful, but then after four or five months, it gets really old. However, the climate does not detract from how great the school is overall.

    Bang for the buck

Despite paying an arm and a leg to attend, I have really enjoyed being here. The school offers a lot of scholarships and the people in the Career Center and the Financial Aid Office are very helpful if you are searching for more aid. Also, the quality of education and the closeness of everyone on campus makes the cost seem less terrible.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit before you decide to attend. The school is really amazing, but make sure you like the campus and the size. It's quite small, but not too small that you wont keep meeting new people. Also, if you are opposed to pine trees, you probably won't like the campus.

Great for these types of students

Whitworth is ideal for students who are open-minded and willing to make a difference. The school offers plenty of opportunities for students to change the world around them, but they don't enforce them very often. There is a lot of leeway for students because the school wants everyone to think for themselves and make their own decisions and learn to take responsibility for their actions. Students who want to make a difference and actually care about others and their surroundings will really enjoy the institution.

    Am learning a lot

The Profs are great, they want to get to know you not just as a student but as a person as well.

    Am enjoying being here

This is a wonderful place to get a great education and to get connected with Christ. There are many things for you to be involved with everything and anything. Also the community is great, every is nice and helpful. I would highly recommend Whitworth!

    Bang for the buck

It is very expensive and that I think would be the only down turn but I think it is worth every penny.

The Science program here is one of the best in the Northwest and is very challenging but the teachers are very willing to help you learn. This will prepare you very well for graduate school.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. Its a small campus, but you are able to meet people and develop great friendships. The students and facility are all extremely kind and care about each other.

    Bang for the buck

Financial aid was HUGE here and allowed me to go to a great school for an amazing price

    Tips for prospective students

Apply and see what kind of money you can get. It is a great school, but might be expensive if you don't apply for scholarships.

Great for these types of students

Small school students that want a great education and develop great friendships.

Whitworth seemed to me like a great place to be the next four years of my life. The campus is amazing and the feel I got while I was there was unlike anywhere else. Spokane is awesome too!

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking for a small private school with a great education and also lots to do Whitworth is the place for you!

    Academic Rigor

The classes are all very personal and the teachers are amazing. The workload is a fair amount but they do a good job preparing you for the real world!

    Dorm Life

the dorms there are amazing and everyone in them is friendly. The people you are surrounded by are all very supportive and nice, I would live there as long as I could!

    Food and Dining

They have tons of options for food and are just now expanding and getting more. When you use your mean card to go in its unlimited and you can get as much as you want! the variety is great and never gets old!

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on within the campus, and there is tons to do within Spokane itself. You can see a movie, go bowling, go lazer tagging, and much, much more!

    Academic Rigor

I went to the Full Ride Scholarship competition, and the school seemed very politically-minded, which isn't for me.
The nursing program has something strange where you have to transfer halfway through, which made my decision not to go here.

    Dorm Life

The people attending Whitworth were very nice and friendly, and there are a lot of things to do around campus. Once a week, they have different activities in the different dorms, which was really pretty cool. The dorms themselves are pretty beautiful.

    Food and Dining

The food in the dining hall was okay, but I wasn't impressed. There wasn't a whole lot of variety.

    What to do for fun

Whitworth has a community outside it, but it is quite a drive from downtown Spokane. In between, there is a power plant and a lot of power lines, which kind of ruins the potential beauty of the drive.

    Bang for the buck

Whitworth is very expensive. Even though they gave me the biggest initial academic scholarship (they go up to 19,000 a year), it was still the most expensive school to attend.

Great for these types of students

Christian students who are politically-minded and don't mind a more rural setting.

    Academic Rigor

Haven't gone here yet, but has great statistics.

    Food and Dining

It's ok, Not amazing, but it is reasonably priced.

Great for these types of students

    Smart and intellectual types.

    Campus Safety

Locks on all buildings and Dorms at night, must be student/staff to gain entrance to school buildings once locked. In a very good part of town.

whitworth is an awesome university with a great community. the classes are on the smaller side and very personal. professors make a special effort to get to know their students and help them succeed even after graduation.

    Tips for prospective students

whitworth is a small private university with a strong sense of community and fellowship. if you want to be an anonymous body at college, whitworth is not the school for you.

    Academic Rigor

the classes you take and the major you are working towards determines how rigorous your classes are. i am a science major and i take classes that take a lot of time out of the classroom. i also know people who barely ever have homework and seem to never study.

    Dorm Life

dorm life is absolutely amazing. every night there is something called primetime from 8-11 where people can hang out and participate in that nights activity. some fun ones include finger painting, puppies and kittens night, and mask making.

    Food and Dining

currently whitworth has an amazing coffee shop, a cafe, the main dining hall, a coffee stand in the new science building, and a snack shop in weyerhaeuser hall. flex dollars which are part of your meal plan can be used at any of these locations. next year the addition to the hub will be finished and the food options will be expanded.

    What to do for fun

each dorm hosts at least one dance/function throughout the year, providing a lot of fun. there are concerts, performances, or special speakers at least once a week. football, basketball, soccer and volleyball always draw a large crowd.

    Bang for the buck

while whitworth is a very expensive school, i believe that it is a very good investment for my future.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the first week of school for new students and transfers is known as camp whitworth, get ready for the time of your life!

    Greek Life

there is no greek community at whitworth.

    Campus Safety

campus security patrols 24/7 and all of the residence buildings need a key card to enter.
